Although Richarlison has failed to make a difference for Tottenham Hotspur since arriving at the club in 2022 as a 60 million pound transfer from Everton, if he does exit the club this summer, he will do as a reigning Europa League champion and someone who did chip in with a streak of goals at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Richarlison is one of two veteran players Tottenham are actively shopping to raise extra funds this summer, with the other being center midfielder Yves Bissouma. Between these two players, Richarlison is the more desirable, as he is a striker in the theoretical prime of his career who was one of the best players in the Premier League for Everton and a national team starter for Brazil before injuries with Tottenham cost him his form.
The 28-year-old product of America Mineiro has seen his transfer value almost half since his move to Tottenham in 2022, so that makes the recent reported offer Tottenham have received for Richarlison all the more surprising - and all the more tantalizing for Tottenham supporters.
Tottenham would nearly break even on Richarlison
According to Matheus Filipe of Brazilian newspaper Terra, Palmeiras are weighing up a whopping 55 million pound transfer bid for Richarlison this summer. For Tottenham fans hoping that they'd get a big offer from Turkey or Saudi Arabia, a massive offer from Richarlison's home country of Brazil, where he played for America Mineiro and then giants Fluminense before joining Watford in England, is a huge surprise.
But if Palmeiras are indeed planning this kind of an offer, Tottenham should take it nonetheless. Richarlison is probably too young to move to Brazil and should want to keep trying in Europe, with a reunion with Everton being a legitimate option for the Premier League veteran.
That said, Palmeiras are a great club, as they showed this summer at the Club World Cup with an excellent tournament. And Tottenham fans have a sneaky reason to root for Palmeiras, in particular, as an option for Richarlison, because Spurs are interested in their young defensive midfielder Richard Rios, who could be a more affordable alternative to the likes of Adam Wharton at the No. 6.
Rios, not Chelsea-bound winger Estevao Willian, was Palmeiras's best player at the Club World Cup one year after being the biggest breakout star at the 2024 Copa America for Colombia. Tottenham should see if Palmeiras are more open to hearing them out on Rios over others like Roma if they sell them Richarlison in return.
