Arsenal have been given a boost as Cristian Romero is set to miss the North London Derby through suspension for Tottenham
Cristian Romero will miss the North London Derby against Arsenal for Tottenham Hotspur after receiving a straight red card against Manchester United at Old Trafford. He was sent off for serious foul play after a horror challenge on Casemiro.
This is Romero’s second red card of the Premier League season, meaning this suspension incurs an additional match ban. The usual three-game ban will be upgraded to four.
This means he will miss the clashes with Newcastle United (H), Arsenal (H), Fulham (A) and Crystal Palace (H). It truly does not come at a worse time with Tottenham trying to rescue their season.
It comes after the Argentine had, as recently as this week, posted to social media talking of the lack of options available to his manager, Thomas Frank.
"Great effort from all my team-mates yesterday, they were incredible," Romero, who missed the 2-2 draw with Manchester City through illness, wrote on Instagram.
"I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn't feeling well, especially since we only had 11 players available - unbelievable but true and disgraceful.
"We'll keep showing up and taking responsibility to turn this around, working hard and staying together. All that's left is to thank all of you for being there and for always supporting us, the fans."
