Transfer news live: Arsenal eye Alvarez, Liverpool enter Diomande race, Spurs chase Robertson
All the latest news, gossip and rumours from the January transfer window
Clubs across Europe are entering the home straight of the January transfer window as they look to make final additions before the business end of the season.
Tottenham have produced perhaps the shock of the window so far after it emerged that they were plotting a move for Liverpool stalwart Andy Robertson, whose contract is up at the end of the season. The Scotland captain has been at Anfield since 2017 and has won everything there is to win, but has lost his starting spot this term following the arrival of Milos Kerkez.
Elsewhere, Premier League leaders Arsenal are plotting a bid for Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez, after Ethan Nwaneri completed his loan move to Marseille, while Chelsea are reportedly targeting a loan move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Douglas Luiz alongside trying to seal a deal for promising French defender Jeremy Jacquet.
However, Liverpool may also have entered the race for Jacquet, with the Reds tracking several centre-back targets, including Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven as well as Alessandro Bastoni of Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck. Further forward, Arne Slot’s side are being linked with RB Leipzig and Ivory Coast star Yan Diomande, while Manchester United are tracking several midfield targets, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek among those linked after the news that Casemiro will be leaving at the end of the season.

In a battle of the Manchester clubs, Elliot Anderson is said to prefer Man City, rather than United.
The Nottingham Forest midfielder has long been a target for Man United but they could lose another player to their city rivals, with The I reporting he will join Pep Guardiola’s side this summer.
Anderson has emerged as a key player for not just Forest but Thomas Tuchel’s England as well.

Man United youngster heads to Norwich
Manchester United youngster Harry Amass has joined Championship strugglers Norwich on loan for the rest of the season.
The 18-year-old left-back was on loan at Sheffield Wednesday for the first half of the campaign, playing 21 times for the doomed Owls.
He’ll jump right back into the Championship relegation scrap, although this time with a team who have at least a fighting chance of staying up, in the form of Norwich.
Amass said: “I've spoken with Ben [Knapper, Norwich sporting director] and the gaffer. They've both told me that they’ve been watching me since Sheffield Wednesday and a bit before that, and they've liked what they'’e seen.
”They like the way that I carry the ball, the way that I am on the ball, the hard work that I show. They spoke to me and said they see that I can do good things here, they believe that it’ll be a benefit for the club and for me, so it should be good both ways.”

Zinchenko still discussing Arsenal exit
Oleksandr Zinchenko and Arsenal are still in talks over facilitating an exit for the Ukrainian full-back this month.
Zinchenko, who has spent the first half of the season on loan at Nottingham Forest but played on sparingly, is trying to seal a permanent move to Dutch giants Ajax.
The 29-year-old has travelled to Amsterdam to complete a medical but the deal is on hold until the details over his Arsenal departure are finalised, report Sky Sports.
If Ajax get the green light, they will finalise a six-month contract, with Zinchenko’s long-term future then decided in the summer.

West Ham need more signings, admits Nuno
A very positive day at the office for West Ham, as they brilliantly beat Sunderland 3-1 to boost their survival hopes.
But boss Nuno Espirito Santo is still adamant they need new signings before the end of the January transfer window.
“We have one week to go,” said Nuno. “I still believe that we need to rebalance our squad. We need options in some positions.
“We need to become more competitive. I still believe in the work the club is doing.”

Lazio chase Everton midfielder
Everton midfielder Tim Iroegbunam is attracting interest from Lazio, according to Sky Italia.
Iroegbunam joined the Toffees from Aston Villa in the summer of 2024 and has been a regular in David Moyes’s midfield this season, albeit from the bench on occasions.
Serie A side Lazio lost influential midfielder Matteo Guendouzi earlier this month to Fenerbahce and have made enquiries about Iroegbunam as they eye a replacement.
West Ham holding firm on Paqueta
West Ham are holding firm with their determination not to sell Lucas Paqueta, having rejected a bid from Flamengo.
Paqueta is desperate to return to Brazil but West Ham don’t want to lose a talismanic figure as they battle relegation and have turned down an offer worth £32.9m plus £3m in add-ons from Flamengo, according to The Athletic.
The 28-year-old midfielder hasn’t played for the Hammers since the game against Nottingham Forest on 6 January, including missing the thumping 3-1 win over Sunderland this afternoon.
After that game, when asked whether he expects to see the Brazilian in a West Ham shirt again, Hammers boss Nuno Espirito Santo said: “What I hope is the situation to be solved as soon as possible. Every part involved has to be solved and to be clear, so we have a direction to move forward.”

Joe Gomez wanted by AC Milan
Liverpool’s intention to improve their centre-back ranks has led to links to the likes of Micky van de Ven, Alessandro Bastoni and Nico Schlotterbeck but one defender who could be departing is Joe Gomez.
AC Milan are considering the 28-year-old Gomez as an emergency option to fill their defensive needs, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.
The former Charlton man has struggled for game-time under Arne Slot.

Alexander-Arnold NOT told to leave Real Madrid
Reports in Spain suggested that Trent Alexander-Arnold had been told by new boss Alvaro Arbelao to find a new club in the summer but the Daily Mail are reporting that is NOT the case.
The 27-year-old has had an underwhelming, injury-interrupted campaign at the Bernabeu so far but retained the backing of ex-manager Xabi Alonso.
Spanish outlet El Nacional claimed that had changed under Arbeloa, who saw the ex-Liverpool full-back as surplus to requirements, but the Mail is adamant there’s no truth in that claim
