Guglielmo Vicario’s stunning fingertip save to deny Cody Gakpo in our recent trip to Liverpool has been recognised by the Premier League.
Our number one has been shortlisted for the league’s Save of the Month award for his amazing effort to push the Dutch forward’s commanding strike onto the post in the first half of our 1-1 draw at Anfield.
After a turnover of play inside our half, 'Vic’ had to be alert to prevent the Reds from taking a two-goal lead before the break. He reacted brilliantly to Gakpo’s quickly taken shot from inside the penalty area, stretching to his right to get a touch on the ball and forcing it to clatter the woodwork.
This is the second month in a row that the Italian has been nominated for the award, having also made the shortlist for a terrific reactive save which kept out Rayan Cherki from close range against Manchester City in February.
He has won the award once before for another fingertip save against Chelsea last April, denying Jadon Sancho on the half-volley.
The 29-year-old has been nominated together with Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, Everton shotstopper Jordan Pickford, Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, Aaron Ramsdale of Newcastle and Sunderland’s Melker Ellborg - and you can play your part in helping our number one to win the prize by voting for him on the Premier League's voting page.
