It has been a positive start to life under Martin Ho as we return to Barclays Women’s Super League action on Sunday – and Matilda Vinberg spoke about the confidence in herself and the team so far.
Having missed the early parts of the campaign with a small knock, the Sweden international has slowly been regaining her form on the pitch and in our last outing in the Women’s League Cup, she played a key part in our 3-0 victory over Birmingham City as she registered two assists at Brisbane Road.
Now in her second full season at the Club, having joined us in January, 2023, from Hammarby IF, ‘Tilly’ has pinpointed the reasons for her strong displays since in her return to action.
“I think it all comes down to confidence,” she explained, speaking on the sofa for Spurs Weekly. “If you have great confidence, everything just flows. You get that confidence from your coach and your team-mates.
“I remember when we were in Spain and played one of my best games in a Spurs shirt - a lot of that came from the confidence from the coach.
“Knowing that I have belief and support from both the coach and the girls gives me so much confidence. I feel like I have a role on the pitch that’s unique to me, the freedom to do what I know I need to do in certain spaces - it lets me shine naturally.”
Now, with domestic football returning this weekend after the international break, we’ll look to continue our strong run in the WSL after picking up 12 points in our first six games – currently sat fourth in the table.
Next up is the visit of Liverpool to Brisbane Road and the exciting forward isn’t looking at their position in the table – with another tough challenge expected in the WSL on Sunday.
“Every game is tough,” Tilly added. “Liverpool haven’t had a great start to the season and we have - so it’s important not to underestimate them. We need to go in with the same mentality we do every week - be ruthless and stick to our plan.
“Honestly, I think we’ve improved every game. Especially against Chelsea, we knew it was a big test but we want to compete against the best teams. Even though we lost, I felt the resilience and mentality we showed proved we’re capable.
“We’re still building something special. It’s a great environment right now - a really good period.”
