We return to Premier League action with a London derby at West Ham United on Saturday (kick-off 5.30pm UK) and recent history shows we tend to perform well following an international break.

Across the last two seasons, we have won five of our eight league games that immediately follow an international break (L3), including our comeback 4-1 victory over the Hammers at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in October last term.

Summer signing Mohammed Kudus scored West Ham's opener on a mixed outing that afternoon as he saw red late on after Dejan Kulusevski, Yves Bissouma, an Alphonse Areola own-goal and Heung-Min Son had completed a fine turnaround.

Mo, who shone for Ghana on national team duty this month, has impressed in Lilywhite with two assists so far and, if he were to find the back of the net against his former club, could become just our second player to do so in this league fixture after Jermain Defoe (six goals).

As for Thomas Frank, our Head Coach could join an exclusive list this weekend. After Bournemouth inflicted a first league defeat of his tenure last time out, Thomas will be looking for a response from his players at the London Stadium to become only our third manager to win his first two away top-flight matches in charge - following in the footsteps of Ossie Ardiles (1993/94) and Tim Sherwood (2013/14).

Winless in our previous five league visits to the Hammers - coming away with three consecutive 1-1 draws on the road in this fixture - we'll need an equally-impressive showing to that superb 2-0 win at Manchester City to get the better of our east London rivals although we do hold the upper hand in recent seasons having lost just once in our last seven league matches (W3 D3).

Wilson Odobert opened his Premier League account for us in our previous meeting and new attacking additions Randal Kolo Muani and Xavi Simons will be hungry to match that feat to become the first players to score on debut since Steven Bergwijn in February, 2020 with both in contention to feature.
