Atletico Madrid are still very keen to sign Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur.

The World Cup winner’s future has been up in the air for quite some time now, and he has been heavily linked with a move away from North London.

TBR Football revealed recently that Daniel Levy is ready to offer Romero a big new contract to keep him at the club, but his heart has been set on leaving for a while now.

His dream move is to Spain, and Atletico Madrid would love to sign him in the coming weeks.

How Diego Simeone is trying to convince Cristian Romero to join Atletico Madrid from Tottenham

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is the best defensive manager in world football.

The Argentine has done a terrific job at Atleti over the years, and he is still going strong despite being there for over 13 years already.

Simeone publicly admitted recently that he wants to sign Romero from Tottenham. This came after weeks of speculation surrounding the defender’s future.

Now, Spanish journalist Ruben Uria has revealed that Simeone is personally calling Romero ‘almost every day’ to convince him to leave Spurs and join Atletico Madrid.

Uria told El Desmarque: “I know that Cholo calls Cuti Romero almost every day to see if he can convince him.

“They (Tottenham) are going to ask a lot. €58-60 million (£49-51m) for this player, which is a lot of money for a centre back.

“But I don’t know why Atleti would go after him. We’ll see how the summer goes.”

How new Tottenham boss Thomas Frank views Cristian Romero

Cristian Romero absolutely adored Ange Postecoglou, and the feeling was mutual between them.

In fact, right after Thomas Frank was announced as the new Tottenham manager, Romero sent a message to Postecoglou, and Spurs fans saw that as a big hint that he is leaving.

However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Frank sees Romero as a ‘crucial’ part of his squad for next season, which is why a departure won’t be easy.

Daniel Levy is expected to make it extremely difficult for him to leave, and the Spurs chairman usually wins battles like this.

It remains to be seen what will happen, but if Spurs end up keeping Romero happy at the club, it will give them a big boost for next season.
