Savinho would certainly be taking a brave step if he were to leave Manchester City in favour of a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
History shows that most players who bid farewell to Pep Guardiola’s City side tend to struggle elsewhere, with names like Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling and Oleksandr Zinchenko springing to mind.
However, Tottenham have attracted Savinho’s attention and only time will tell whether he is willing to change his mind and stay put at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola views Oscar Bobb as a new signing and the Norwegian, alongside Rayan Cherki, Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku have all played a significant number of games on the right-wing — as the aforementioned quartet could replace the Brazilian if he departs this summer.
Man City hope Savinho kicks on next season
Savinho is a specialist right-winger and perhaps has the highest ceiling of any player at the club in his natural position.
However, Savinho believes he could start regularly at Tottenham despite competing with midfielders like Bobb, Cherki and Foden for a starting berth on the right flank.

During a Manchester City-centric Q&A session with The Athletic’s journalist Jordan Campbell, a fan asked him his thoughts on Savinho’s links to Tottenham as he initially revealed that the club wish to keep him, claiming: “City want to keep him but Pep’s stance has always been that if any player doesn’t want to be somewhere else, then they are free to leave if a club comes in at the right place.”
Campbell also went on to reveal that City hope that the former Troyes wideman kicks on next season.
“His performance in the second-half against Palermo was really impressive and he looks to have struck up a good understanding with [Tijjani] Reijnders. He started last season well before fading but City are hoping that is him acclimatised and he can kick on this season.”
Pep Guardiola was heard giving Savinho key advice in training
It seems like in training, Pep Guardiola still considers the Brazilian a City player.
So much so that Guardiola shouted at Savinho in training as he advised the Tottenham target to “face the goal” and urged him to be more direct.
As a result, it seems like the Catalan tactician has high hopes for the silky dribbler.
