Tottenham Hotspur have certainly shown how ambitious they are by launching a big-money bid to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
But unfortunately for Spurs, Crystal Palace rejected their bid to sign Guehi for £70 million.
Furthermore, sources have told TBR Football that Guehi is happy to stay at Crystal Palace until the end of the season.
Tottenham have already signed Kevin Danso on loan to bolster their defence but clearly, the Lilywhites felt their defence needed more strengthening as they aim to climb above 14th place in the Premier League.
Tottenham launched £70 million bid for Marc Guehi before Kevin Danso move
Guehi considers Tottenham a quality side, praising them after Crystal Palace’s 1-0 win against Spurs earlier this season.
Tottenham certainly seem to feel the same about Marc Guehi, with journalist Ed Aarons revealing that their bid to sign him was made even before they wrapped up a deal for Danso on loan.
Ange Postecoglou feels Tottenham are “short” in defence, with Radu Dragusin suffering a serious injury, Cristian Romero still recovering from injury and Micky van de Ven only recently returning to full fitness.
Guehi, considered “top-drawer” by Joe Cole would have seamlessly slotted in at Tottenham, considering he has proven his quality in the English top-flight and at international level. But Spurs will have to be wary of Chelsea, who have been eyeing Guehi since September.
Tottenham target Marc Guehi likely to leave Crystal Palace in the summer
But sources have told TBR Football that Guehi is expected to leave Crystal Palace this summer, which could give Tottenham the chance to re-ignite their interest in bringing him over to N17 in a few months’ time.
So much so that Crystal Palace have not even offered the Abidjan-born colossus fresh terms as they expect him to leave.
Spurs could potentially even sign Guehi for a lower fee than their £70 million bid as his contract at Selhurst Park will have just a year left on it.
