Luca Williams-Barnett has been shortlisted for Premier League 2 Player of the Month for the second time in a row.
Having won September’s prize, he’s now in the running for the October award as he bids to become only the second player behind West Ham’s Callum Marshall (2023/24) to win the divisional gong twice in the same season. Nobody has won it in consecutive months to date.
Currently away representing England at the Under-17 World Cup in Qatar, where he scored a brace in their second game against Haiti on Friday, Luca enjoyed another month of progress on the pitch for our Under-21s.
He began with two excellent goals and an assist in our 4-1 win at Newcastle United on 5 October. The attacking midfielder was then accredited with the assist for Callum Olusesi’s goal in a defeat by the same scoreline at Manchester United on 25 October.
Outside of the Premier League 2, he also provided an assist in our 4-2 UEFA Youth League win in Monaco on 22 October.
The 17-year-old faces tough competition for this month’s prize – also on the shortlist are United’s Gabriele Biancheri, who scored a hat-trick against us in the aforementioned game at Leigh Sports Village, plus Brandon Powell of Blackburn Rovers, Mahamadou Sangaré and Seb Naylor of Manchester City, Luca Fletcher and Woody Williamson of Ipswich Town and Laurence Giani of Stoke City.
The nominees have been selected by the Premier League Football Development Panel, who will also decide the winner.
