Manchester United’s move for Atalanta’s Ederson had been all but confirmed, but has now hit an unexpected roadblock.

The Brazilian has been called up last minute to the World Cup by Carlo Ancelotti, following an injury to Wesley. Previously left out of the squad, The Mirror report that the 26-year-old’s inclusion could stall his move to Old Trafford.

Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur have had not one but two bids rejected for Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke. Speaking on talkSPORT, Brighton chief executive Paul Barber confirmed that the Seagulls have twice turned down offers from Spurs for the centre-back in recent weeks.

Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi, of course, worked with the Dutch defender during his time on the south coast. With just one year remaining on the 26-year-old’s Brighton contract, Spurs are confident that a deal can be struck.

Van Hecke is not the only Premier League centre-back Spurs have been targeting. Tottenham have also been chasing Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi for some time. The Argentina International will be available as a free agent this summer. Fabrizio Romano claims that the deal for Senesi has now been completed.

It has been a busy couple of weeks for De Zerbi’s side, who have already announced the signing of Andy Robertson, also as a free agent.

Tottenham Hotspur are continuing in their pursuit of 22-year-old Manchester City winger Savinho this summer.

Spurs also made a move for the Brazil international last season, although it ultimately did not materialise. It led to a spell out of the team for Savinho, and his campaign never really got back on track after that. The forward made just seven league starts last term.

Despite that, Tottenham are still pushing to sign the winger, says Fabrizio Romano. It is believed that the player is open to the move and the deal is progressing well.

Meanwhile, according to AS, City captain Bernardo Silva has agreed terms with Barcelona. The Portugal international will be available as a free agent when his deal expires at the end of the month. The 31-year-old had drawn interest from the likes of Atletico Madrid and Juventus, but the Catalan side are his preference.

Atletico Madrid are also showing interest in fellow City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, according to The Mail. The Dutchman only arrived at the Etihad last summer. However after a positive start to his maiden City campaign, as the months went on he was utilised less frequently.

Elsewhere, Chelsea have rejected multiple approaches for Josh Acheampong, report The Standard. The 20-year-old defender is very highly-rated, although he has found game time hard to come by at Stamford Bridge. Despite that, new manager Xabi Alonso wants to keep hold of the academy graduate, and he is not for sale this summer.

Spurs non-executive chairman insists Tottenham are not for sale in statement

Spurs non-executive chairman insists Tottenham are not for sale in statement - hayters.com
Description

Spurs’ non-executive chairman Peter Charrington revealed that Spurs are not for sale in a statement released the day after Spurs secured their spot in the Premier League for next season.

Tottenham fans endured a season of struggle over the past year in which they once again finished 17th in the league, but this time without a European trophy.

Before many matches this season including their 2-1 loss to West Ham at home, Spurs fans have staged protests about the ownership and performances on the pitch.

Charrington released a message to the fans in his statement after the season finished.

“Since becoming chairman I have realised that Spurs fans are built differently,” he explained. “I have seen it over and over again in the last nine months, across every generation, in every conversation. Even in the darkest of seasons, you showed up and carried this team. That loyalty is not something we take for granted. It is something we are determined to be worthy of.

“There has been speculation about ownership and the future direction of the club. Let us be direct. Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale. The Lewis family are wholly committed to this club and to this rebuild. They will provide the stability and investment needed at every level to move us forward, and they see that as a long-term responsibility, not a short-term fix.

“This season fell well short of what Tottenham Hotspur demands. We must be in the fight with the best teams in this league, every season, and we are rebuilding this club with that standard in mind.”

Charrington went on to admit that “football success” had not been driving the club’s decisions over the year.

“Last September, we recognised that something seismic had to change at Spurs,” he wrote. “The Lewis family stepped in and authorised a full reset. That decision was not taken lightly, and it came later than it should have. But what has been put in motion is real, and it marks a genuine break from what had come before.

“As part of that process, we discovered some uncomfortable truths. The qualities that make Spurs distinct, our football, our ambition, the connection between the team and its supporters, had been allowed to fade. Football success had not been driving our decisions. We did not have the right expertise in key roles. We did not build squads good enough to compete in the most demanding league in the world. Two 17th place finishes in a row is not acceptable, and we will not dress it up as anything other than falling well short of what this club expects.

“Ahead of the next season the chairman issued five clear commitments to the fans to try and make sure a season such as this past one does not happen again.

“We will build a squad, led by Roberto as Head Coach, with the right blend of experience, youth and leadership to compete at the highest levels of Premier League and European football.

“We will invest across multiple transfer windows to rebuild, balance and strengthen, with this summer representing an important first step in that work.

“We will continue to modernise our football operation, with a significant focus on raising standards across medical and performance.

“We will increase investment in the Academy to ensure that the pathway from youth football to the first team is one of the strongest in the country.

Description

Roberto De Zerbi insisted that he will be Spurs manager next season, whether they are in the Premier League or not.

Tottenham face Everton in the final match of the Premier League season knowing that if they don’t win they could be relegated providing West Ham beat Leeds.

De Zerbi came into the club in April with the club in 18th place and has moved Spurs up to 17th and in control of their future.

Despite their improved form, they are not safe yet but De Zerbi said he will not leave the club if they do not achieve their objective.

“Yes, I confirm everything,” he said in response to being asked if he will be here next season. “For me it’s still an honour to be a coach for Tottenham.

“Even if tomorrow or after tomorrow, Sunday, we play for the relegation fight. It’s not a problem. I consider football something more than the table, than the level of the game.”

Many fans have accused the Spurs players of not caring at points this season. So much so that Micky van de Ven came out ahead of their Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund to deny those claims. De Zerbi echoed that statement from earlier this season.

“No, absolutely false [that the players don’t care}.” he said. “No, no, no. It’s not true.

“Maybe they suffered too much. Their reaction has been not right but not for that reason because they are sensitive guys and they suffered that situation.

“Maybe they didn’t know how they can go out of this situation. But there is just one solution to go out, to be stronger and to be stronger than the atmosphere, the situation.”

Description

Roberto De Zerbi confirmed that Dominic Solanke could be back ready to start for Spurs, but he is still unsure on how many minutes James Maddison can play against Everton in their final match of the season.

Dominic Solanke has been out since Spurs’ 1-0 win over Wolves in April with a hamstring injury meaning Spurs have only had three fit attackers in Randal Kolo Muani, Richarlison and Mathys Tel.

James Maddison played his first minutes of the season in their draw against Wolves, but is still yet to start a game for Spurs since he suffered an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury against Arsenal in pre-season.

Tottenham know that if they can avoid defeat against Everton they will secure their spot in the Premier League next season so will need as many players back fit as possible.

“Solanke is available for tomorrow, we have to decide if he starts in the first 11 or not, and Maddison is available,” he said.

“He’s always tough and decides before the game how many minutes he can play. Of course, he’s a different player, he’s a top player for us, but we have to analyse the physical condition, the Italian weather, but yeah, both are available.”

How the relegation fight between Spurs and West Ham could play out this week

How the relegation fight between Spurs and West Ham could play out this week - hayters.com
Description

A nail-biting season for Spurs and West Ham fans has left both clubs in relegation danger in the final week of the campaign, with the Premier League trapdoor days away from opening for one of the London clubs.

With West Ham suffering a 3-1 loss to Newcastle on Sunday evening, their third consecutive loss in a row, they head into their final game of the season against Leeds United on the back foot. Tottenham on the other hand, have picked up seven points in their last three matches, putting them in a more convincing position.

The Hammers’ loss at St James’ Park on Sunday evening leaves them trailing two points behind Spurs with only one game left to play, while the north London side have two games left to play.

Looking ahead to Tottenham’s game at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening, De Zerbi’s side have had eight days to prepare for one of their most important games of the season.

Their opponents Chelsea, just coming off the back of narrowly losing the FA Cup final 1-0 to Manchester City, have only had three days to prepare for their penultimate game of the season. Although Spurs have had more time to prepare, history is not on their side.

Spurs have only prevailed once in their last 35 league visits to Stamford Bridge. That sole success was 3-1 victory in April 2018 under future Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino. If Spurs can come away from the game on Tuesday evening with a win, they are guaranteed to avoid relegation. If not, their fate will be decided on the final day of the Premier League season.

In summary, Tottenham need to gain one point from either of their final two games to escape relegation, presuming that West Ham will not be able to close the 13-goal difference between them and Spurs in their final game against Leeds on Sunday. If Tottenham can secure three points against Chelsea, they can wave goodbye to any relegation worries.

If De Zerbi’s side come away with a loss on Tuesday evening, which league they will be playing in next year will boil down to the final day of the season. West Ham will host Leeds at home, a side that has not lost in the Premier League since March 3rd.

The Hammers will be praying for Spurs to lose their final two games, and that combined with a win for West Ham at home would save them from relegation. Despite it being possible for West Ham to stay in the Premier League, on the final day of the season Tottenham will host Everton at home, giving them another chance to get that all important one point and further banish West Ham’s hope of survival.

So the stage has been set for Tottenham. One point will give them a near guarantee of staying up, three points will mean definite survival, and no points will leave their fate in the hands of West Ham. After putting their committed fans through a severely disappointing season, Spurs have to deliver.

What do the fans think?

Hayters spoke to fans of both clubs to see how they are feeling ahead of a defining week…

West Ham fan Matt Parker of Barking, East London, said: “We had all the momentum, clawing back 13 points on Spurs since January, when everyone thought we were already down. It’s heartbreaking because it feels like we did all the hard work. Only to throw away the chance we had of survival.

“Nuno has been terrific for us, but it looks like the stress of it all has even reached him. We’ve taken no points from our last three games at the business end of the season, and the manager started with the wrong team against Newcastle.

“I don’t blame the fans for booing the team, because in a “must-win” game we just froze. The least you expect is fight and passion. Nuno made early substitutions acknowledging he got the line-up wrong, but by then it was too late.

“Relegation is now inevitable. I hope we keep Nuno to try and bring us straight back. But it will be far from easy- especially as we will clearly sell our better players. Fernandes and Bowen are too good for the Championship.

“The club has been a mess. Next season, other teams will view a trip to our 60,000- seater stadium as a Cup Final. And Millwall will be lying in wait for us. We will get what we deserve.”

Spurs fan Bob Cowell of Barnet, Herts said: “If we pull off the miracle of survival, then they need to build a statue of Roberto De Zerbi.

“He has simply been sensational. We were at a lost cause until he came in. The appalling appointments of Thomas Frank and Ivan Tudor have been shown up by the Italian. They were frozen like rabbits in headlights, offering the players poor coaching, displaying weak communication, and being dismissive of the fans. De Zerbi has been a breath of fresh air, telling the players how good they are- and the difference has been stark.

“I was more nervous after West Ham’s defeat to Newcastle. The Great Escape is purely down to us now- one point in two games and we are safe. But going to Chelsea is a regular ‘L’ on the coupon. Generations of fans can’t even remember us winning at Stamford Bridge but it’s there for the taking.

“There’s time to get angry about the plight of the club, and how bad we have been for so long. But serious issues with the owners can wait – we just need to knuckle down and eek out another point to stay in the prem.”

Premier League relegation battle: Are Spurs or West Ham more likely to stay up?

Premier League relegation battle: Are Spurs or West Ham more likely to stay up? - hayters.com
Description

A win over Leeds United on Monday would have brought Tottenham to the brink of Premier League survival.

Unfortunately for Roberto De Zerbi’s side, they were unable to get the job done, drawing 1-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Victory would have put them four points ahead of relegation rivals West Ham with two games remaining, but as it stands, they are still only two points above the dreaded drop zone.

But who is more likely to stay up out of the two London clubs? We’ve taken a look into who looks better placed to be playing Premier League football next season…

Tottenham Hotspur

According to the Opta Supercomputer, Spurs are understandably favoured to secure Premier League survival. Opta rank De Zerbi’s side as having just an 18.7% chance of going down to the Championship, which should provide fans with some hope.

What will not provide them with hope, however, is their dreadful home form. Unlike these trustworthy UK slots games platforms Spurs have shown they cannot be trusted to deliver on home turf. They have not won a Premier League game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since December 6.

With that in mind, playing away might actually be a positive for Tottenham, though their upcoming trip to fierce rivals Chelsea is not an easy task. Tottenham also have a torrid record at Stamford Bridge.

Their final game of the season sees them take on Everton at home, who could well be pushing for European qualification. Win one of those two and it is likely they will stay up, but that looks far easier said than done.

West Ham United

There is no doubting that West Ham have been a much better side since Nuno Espirito Santo had the opportunity to rebalance his squad in the January transfer window. Their form since January has been stronger than Spurs. Over the last 13 games, West Ham would sit 11th while Spurs would be down in 18th.

But more recent evidence is more concerning for the Hammers. They have lost their last two games, a 3-0 defeat at Brentford and 1-0 defeat at home to Arsenal. In both games, however, they were competitive despite the defeats, particularly against league leaders Arsenal where they had a late equaliser controversially ruled out.

Unlike Spurs, they will be encouraged by the prospect of playing at home. West Ham have picked up 19 points at home this season compared to Tottenham’s 12.

Their final game of the season sees them take on already safe Leeds at the London Stadium, which follows a trip to an out of sorts Newcastle United side.

West Ham winning both would certainly be a surprise but winning one and Spurs failing to win either of their two remaining ties looks entirely plausible.

Description

Tottenham boss Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that both James Maddison and Dominic Solanke could return to action sooner rather than later.

Maddison has missed the entire campaign so far, after suffering an ACL tear in pre-season. He has been named on the bench in the past three matches but is yet to feature.

“I am thinking about James Maddison,” De Zerbi admitted. “Because I am watching a top, top player.

“Maybe he is not ready yet to play not as a physical condition, but for the rhythm or intensity of the game. You are playing in Premier League, the most difficult league in the world for rhythm and intensity.”

The Italian coach also had positive news on the progress of striker Solanke.

“About Solanke, he is improving very quickly,” he continued. “I don’t know if for this game. We hope for the next game at Stamford Bridge.”

Spurs will continue their battle for survival at home against Leeds on Monday night. However, they will again be without first choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

“No, Vicario is not ready yet,” said the Tottenham manager. “I don’t know what the plan will be.

“He’s suffering because he would like to help the team and his team-mates. But he’s not available yet.”

Spurs sit perilously close to relegation with just three matches remaining. They are currently just one point above the drop zone.

De Zerbi continued to confirm that there have been no fresh injury blows for his side at this crucial point in this season.

The Italian said: “No. I’m happy because we are working well with all the players. It’s another important week for us.”

De Zerbi sends clear message to Spurs players after climbing out of relegation zone – and gives update on Bentancur - hayters.com
Description

Roberto De Zerbi stressed that his Spurs players must remember the situation they have found themselves in after recording back-to-back Premier League wins.

Tottenham had not won a Premier League game in 2026 before their victory over Wolves last week but made it two wins in a row by beating Aston Villa 2-1 to climb out of the relegation zone.

“I’m honest, I have one face. If I say Kolo Muani, Gallagher, Palhinha, and all our players are great level, big level, it’s because I feel it,” Spurs boss De Zerbi said after the victory.

“I don’t want to sell something if I don’t believe in my words. I’m lucky because I’m working with very good players. Good people and very good players.

“My work and my job is just to transfer the confidence to believe in themselves and to try to be stronger than the defeats and the position in the table, stronger than the words of all of you.

“The crucial thing now is keeping in our heads what the situation was before the Wolverhampton game. This is the memory most important to keep in our heads.”

Rodrigo Bentancur was forced off during the game but De Zerbi played down fears of another injury to a key player.

“Yes, Bentancur is just tired,” he said when asked if he was okay.

Recent form

Aston Villa need to steady the ship if they hope to live up to their potential this season. Despite pulling off an important league win against Sunderland, they were then narrowly beaten by Fulham and then Nottingham Forest in the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals. Level on points with Liverpool in 4th, a strong performance against Tottenham could see them make a case for a return to Europe’s top tournament.

Tottenham Hotspur finally managed to take home three points against an already-relegated Wolves side last time out, keeping them within touching distance of safety. Just two points behind West Ham, every game remains a must-win, but Spurs have not won at Villa Park since November 2024. Roberto de Zerbi will need to inspire something massive from his players as they continue to battle against relegation.

What’s been said?

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery: “Each match is very important, we are involved in the Premier League in day 35 and we are focusing on it as a priority – to be consistent and be demanding to achieve a huge challenge to be back in the Champions League.

“On Sunday we need the stadium full, the supporters helping us, playing with us, bringing the energy. We are trying to enjoy with our supporters. We have been consistent, three years in a row playing in Europe. This year we have the opportunity to fight for it.”

Tottenham Hotspur boss Roberto De Zerbi: “[The voice inside us was saying] winning two or three games in a row is impossible because we hadn’t won a game in 2026. I think it’s all negative things and it’s rubbish. It’s like we’re all crying and relegated. No, not yet. We have to die on the pitch.

“We have to play, we have to fight, we have two points less than West Ham. It’s not the best moment for us, a tough moment, but the losers cry, they think negative and I don’t want people close to me crying or to think a different way than me.”
