Tottenham predicted team vs Ipswich as Ange Postecoglou makes Romero and Djed Spence decisions

Ange Postecoglou has a couple of decisions to make as Tottenham return to action quickly with the visit of Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs flew back into the UK in the early hours of Friday morning from Istanbul after an intense match at Galatasaray. They played the final half an hour of the 3-2 defeat with 10 men after Will Lankshear's red card, which came after the 19-year-old's first goal for the club.

Postecoglou had made seven changes to his side after the big win against Aston Villa and took captain Son Heung-min and Brennan Johnson off at half-time with this weekend's game in mind. That's because Tottenham have plenty of absent players at the moment with Micky van de Ven, Wilson Odobert and Richarlison all out with hamstring injuries. Timo Werner remains unavailable with a groin problem and Mikey Moore has been struggling with a virus this week.

Postecoglou could have Cristian Romero back in the fold if the Argentine feels able to play following a foot problem sustained in the win against Villa and Djed Spence also comes back into consideration after being ineligible to play in the Europa League. Sergio Reguilon also falls into that category but has yet to play for Spurs this season after failing to secure a move away from the club in the summer.

With all of that in mind, here's the team we reckon Postecoglou will select:

Tottenham vs Ipswich Town Premier League score predicted as goalscoring form continues

Tottenham will be hoping to enter the upcoming international break closer to the Premier League top four when they take on Ipswich Town later today.

A 3-2 loss to Galatasaray midweek put an end to Spurs' unbeaten start in the Europa League, but despite the loss, the Lilywhites should be entering today's clash with confidence due to their impressive home record of late. Spurs have won their last six home games across all competitions, including a 4-1 win over Aston Villa most recently.

Ange Postecoglou's side were the Premier League's top scorers this season heading into the weekend, with Dominic Solanke starting to find his feet in the Spurs side. Next up for Spurs is relegation-battling Ipswich, with the Tractor Boys the only side yet to win a Premier League game this season.

So, can Spurs get back to winning ways in the Premier League this weekend? Let's take a look.

We simulated Tottenham vs Ipswich Town to get a score prediction

To complete this simulation, we used EA FC 25 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.

We predict that Tottenham could line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their starting XI as follows: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Dragusin, Udogie; Bentancur, Kulusevski, Maddison; Johnson, Solanke, Son.

We predict that the visitors could set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Muric; Johnson, O'Shea, Burgess, Davis; Morsy, Cajuste; Hutchinson, Chaplin, Szmodics; Delap.

It was a frantic start in north London, with Liam Delap silencing the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as he headed in a cross from close range to give Ipswich a shock lead after just three minutes. The lead didn't last long though as Heung-Min Son was brought down inside the penalty box two minutes later, and the South Korean dispatched the spot kick to make it 1-1 just five minutes in.

Despite the hectic opening to the game, the affair quieted down quickly, with neither side creating anything worth noting as they entered the half-time break. Postecoglou's side began the second half with a spring in their step, and in the 61st minute, they completed the turnaround to take the lead.

Some fancy footwork from Son on the left saw him dance along the byline and into the box, evading a few half-hearted challenges along the way. The forward fizzed a pass into the feet of Solanke who smartly let the ball run through his legs to Brennan Johnson, and a first-time strike from the Welshman found the bottom corner, making it 2-1 to the hosts.

Timo Werner had some massive opportunities to make it 3-1 when he was played through one-on-one with the 'keeper on two occasions, but both times, the German failed to find the target. Pressure was starting to build on Spurs as they entered the later stages of the game, but in the 86th minute, they could relax, with Ipswich giving away another penalty which Son once again fired home to confirm the three points.

Postecoglou praises classy Pedro Porro gesture and what he does behind the scenes at Tottenham

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou believes that Pedro Porro's gesture to donate part of his salary to help those affected by the catastrophic floods in Valencia is just part of who the Spaniard is.

More than 200 people have died in the Spanish region, with thousands more reported missing after a year's worth of rain fell in just eight hours. Images have shown many homes destroyed and more than 100,000 cars damaged, many swept away by huge torrents of water and left piled up.

Speaking after Spurs' win against Aston Villa on Sunday, Porro had said: "First of all, I just want to say that, well, for a Spaniard, today, for all Spaniards, it’s a sad day. I think we’ve had three, four, five days of terrible suffering. I can’t even imagine what it’s like for everyone involved in Valencia. And, as I posted on social media, I want to dedicate this victory to them."

The right-back added: "There’s a sense of helplessness. Helplessness about not being there, because I know what it’s like to be 'in the mud'. I’d be the first one there to help, to show up, but I’m in London, I have competitions, I can’t. I’d say it’s helplessness because I’d like to help.

"But I’ve already spoken to my agents, and I’m going to donate part of my salary to cover whatever they need, to buy shovels, food, especially anything they need."

When asked about Porro's gesture ahead of Tottenham's game this Sunday against Ipswich, Postecoglou said it was very much in keeping with the player.

"I think most players understand that they are in a pretty privileged position and I think all of them understand the social responsibility that they also carry. Areas where they can help," he said. "Pedro is certainly a person who is very empathetic in that way, you see him with the younger players or with people in general. It is great.

"I always say to the players, we always need to understand whatever our tough moments are, they pale into insignificance to some of the challenges that people in wider society face. If we can always give back and contribute, I always think those kind of things come back in spades. Not just in terms of gratitude or anything like that, but just for your own life, you feel like you are making a meaningful contribution to something where you have been privileged in your own position."

Bayern Munich drop first major hint over Harry Kane Tottenham transfer return

Tottenham Hotspur spent £65million on Dominic Solanke to replace Harry Kane. But given the opportunity, Spurs supporters, Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy would take the England captain back in a heartbeat.

Postecoglou admitted as much when he was quizzed by a young fan over the summer. Postecoglou said: "Can I buy Harry Kane back? Well it’d be great if I could. The beauty of Harry is that everything that he’s done at this football club will remain forever, even though he’s not with us now. He’ll always be part of this football club."

Spurs did insert a buyback clause into the contract that saw Kane make the £100million move to Germany in 2023. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was asked about it a fans' forum and said: "Of course."

It is understood that the buyback clause gives Tottenham first refusal to sign him, should the opportunity arise in the future. Kane is just 47 goals behind Alan Shearer's Premier League goalscoring record and has been tipped to return before his career ends to try and chase that record down.

Before he left he became Tottenham's all-time top scorer, overhauling Jimmy Greaves' record.

Kane missed out on ending his trophy drought last season when Bayer Leverkusen went the entire Bundesliga season unbeaten to win the title and claimed the league and cup double too.

But Bayern are well on course to give Kane his first piece of silverware in his career this season, with the German giants three points clear at the top of the table after nine games.

And Bayern may well have dropped the first hint that Kane could return to the Premier League soon, and a reunion with Tottenham. Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has reported that Bayern have inquired over the possibility of signing Sporting CP hitman Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres has plenty of admirers, having scored 43 goals in 50 matches last season, with another 23 already this season in just 17 appearances. Gyokeres has been scouted by a number of Premier League clubs, with Bayern now among his suitors.

Plettenberg said: "FC Bayern have inquired about Viktor Gyokeres and gathered information, but no further action has been taken yet. Nearly all top European clubs have already made similar inquiries in recent weeks and continue to do so.

"Bayern plan to continue closely monitoring his situation. The 26-year-old striker is expected to leave Sporting no later than in summer. As revealed, he is permitted to transfer for a fee between €60million and €70million."

If Bayern are interested in Gyokeres, you would not expect them to splash the cash on someone to sit on the bench, meaning they are potentially on the lookout for someone to replace Kane in the near future.

Tottenham wonderkid proves Ange Postecoglou right as Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear repeat eyed

Ange Postecoglou could well have unearthed Tottenham's next wonderkid after helping Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear break into the first-team. Both teenagers have been handed minutes in the Europa League this season with Moore also making his full Premier League debut away at Crystal Palace.

The meeting away at Ferencvaros saw Postecoglou name both young attackers in his starting XI with Moore also starring in the win over AZ Alkmaar, which resulted in first senior league start that weekend. Injuries have certainly helped both make regular appearances with Lankshear also starting the 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray earlier this week.

Moore, who has arguably been the more impressive of those two, was absent from their squad in Turkey, due to illness, but it was Lankshear grabbing the headlines this time around. Soon after Yunus Akgun scored the opening goal, Lankshear turned home a Brennan Johnson cross at the back post for the equaliser and his first senior goal.

Unfortunately, the 19-year-old's evening ended early after he was sent off in the second half for two bookable offences in just seven minutes. After that game, Postecoglou was asked for his thoughts the two big moments involving Lankshear.

"Will took his goal well, he worked hard for the team," he said in a press conference. "Obviously he hasn't had a lot of experience at senior football so he would have learnt a lot today. The red card, it was a bit of overenthusiasm in that moment to give away a foul, but he'll learn from that."

Nonetheless, both Moore and Lankshear are now firmly in Postecoglou's senior squad, with several more academy stars eyeing spots. Also included in the Galatasaray matchday squad was Alfie Dorrington, Dante Cassanova, Callum Olusesi and Luca Williams-Barnett.

The latter of those missed school on Thursday to sit on the subs bench and though he remained there, the 16-year-old was very much involved in Spurs' Under-18s victory over Leicester City on Saturday at Hotspur Way. The young Foxes took the lead, but Williams-Barnett levelled the game with a truly outrageous goal.

After escaping one challenge with a body feint, the midfielder drove beyond the halfway line before unleashing an unbelievable hit from inside the centre circle, which flew over the Leicester goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net, as shown on the Spurs academy social media channels.

Just three weeks ago, Williams-Barnett scored a very similar goal away at West Ham with it therefore clear it was not just a one-off. Given the quality he has been displaying, it is very clear to see why Postecoglou named him in his squad to face Galatasaray with it very likely he is capable of being the next academy breakout star, following in the footsteps of Moore and Lankshear.

The looming Tottenham transfer problem Ange Postecoglou needs to fix soon

Description

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou will require a new goalkeeper before the start of the 2025/26 season in order to challenge Guglielmo Vicario and it raises an old problem.

Spurs have got themselves into a familiar situation with their goalkeepers and it's one that previous managers have had to contend with. The north London club have always had a clear number one, which was previously Hugo Lloris and is now Vicario, and then they recruit an older back-up goalkeeper towards the end of his career.

Beyond that are academy goalkeepers who rarely if ever get a look in during competitive matches. The current 25-year-old academy products in Brandon Austin and Alfie Whiteman have held those back positions for a long time, other than the odd loan spell abroad.

Vicario's back-up currently is Fraser Forster. The 36-year-old penned a new contract last season, which comes to an end this summer. The former England international is a positive character behind the scenes with plenty of experience, but is not the perfect fit for Postecoglou's high line without the speed to rush out too far.

His performances this season have been mixed. In the Carabao Cup at Coventry Forster was perhaps understandably shaky in his first game back after months out with a fractured foot. Then he impressed against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last month.

On Thursday night in the same competition, Forster had a mixed match at Galatasaray. He deserves credit for keeping the 3-2 scoreline down as the hosts had 28 shots, with 10 on target. He denied Victor Osimhen a couple of times with quick, low saves in one-vs-one duels, and then showed great reflexes to bat away a rocket of a volley from Yunus Akgun.

However, the downside to Forster's game was some shaky moments, including dropping one cross in his box and being bailed out by Rodrigo Bentancur blocking the resulting shot on his goal line. He also palmed a couple of saves back into his own six-yard box with others having to mop up for him. Forster was also slow to get out on a couple of occasions and his kicking was inconsistent, sometimes excellent and fast under pressure and in other moments wayward and nervy.

Postecoglou appreciates what Forster brings behind the scenes and his experience on the pitch, but it remains to be seen whether he will be offered a new contract beyond his current one. If he does, it could well be to drop down to a third choice role to help mentor a young new goalkeeper who will challenge Vicario.

With Austin signing a new five-year deal at the end of last season, it looked like he might step up during this campaign to play a bigger role but that has not been the case. Whiteman's deal, like Forster's, currently comes to an end this summer.

Tottenham are more than likely to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer to provide competition for Vicario, perhaps moving in January if the opportunity is there.

The problem that remains for them are the Europa League squad rules, which will not allow for much change in that competition unless players head out the door, with Djed Spence also waiting for his chance to come into the squad.

Spurs have got themselves into a situation where Austin and Whiteman are the only two club-trained players eligible for the four spots in the Europa League squad so they are having to leave two open spaces in what is meant to be a 25-man group.

That is another hurdle Postecoglou must negotiate as Tottenham need a new goalkeeper to challenge Vicario in the seasons ahead.

Dominic Solanke agrees with Son about key Postecoglou trait and explains which player inspired him

Dominic Solanke says it is a joy to play in Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham system and has explained how he learned important traits from Didier Drogba as a youngster.

The 27-year-old striker made the £65million move to Spurs from Bournemouth in the summer, making him the most expensive signing within the Premier League during the window. After an early injury disrupted his start to life in north London, Solanke has quickly found his groove in Postecoglou's set-up and has recorded eight goals involvements in his first 12 matches in the Premier League and Europa League, with six goals and two assists.

In a new interview this week with Men in Blazers, Solanke spoke about life at Spurs with Postecoglou and their shared ambitions for the coming seasons at the club. Solanke's captain at Tottenham, Son Heung-min, had previously been interviewed by the channel and said that the Australian made him feel like an excited child again because of his passion for the game.

"He's a great manager, probably a bit like what Sonny said, that his passion for the game is incredible. The way he likes to play definitely suits me and other forward players," said Solanke. "He doesn't really put too much pressure on us other than just playing freely and having attacking football. Obviously, he likes us to press and work hard, so that's an important side to the game as well. It's a joy to play in the system."

When Solanke joined Spurs, he said that the club had ambitions that matched his own and he went into more detail about that in this latest interview.

"I think the main thing for us is winning stuff. Over the last few years, that's the missing piece for the club. Obviously it's a great club and everyone knows how big of a club it is," he said. "But I think we need to be winning stuff now and and that's something I want to be part of, something that the gaffer wants to be part of as well, and and I'm sure everyone in the club wants to be a part of. So we're all on the same wavelength to try and make that happen and hopefully we can do that as soon as possible.

"For myself [on a personal level], it's just the same. Try to score as many goals as I can help the team win stuff. I think I'm at that point in my career where everyone wants to win stuff, and that's what you play football for. So that's the main thing on my mind."

As well as Solanke's varied threat in front of goal, with three very different finishes in his past two matches against Aston Villa and Galatasaray, the England international's incredible work rate and pressing has not gone unnoticed and he says it's just part of his makeup as a footballer.

"It's definitely an important part of my game, something I've done my whole life really, but I think, especially in football, you're always working, especially when you're coming up against top teams, and it definitely helps," he explained. "The way that we play here it's really important with the way we press. So it's something that's a given for me."

So how does Solanke judge a successful 90 minutes or so on the pitch when that final whistle blows?

"There's a lot of different ways. I think mainly we get a win," he said "That's always the most important thing in football, but personally, scoring is the main thing that will make me feel good after the game. As long as I help the team in any way, as long as we're getting the win, I think I'm going to be happy after."

Solanke has had plenty of experience in his career, coming through at Chelsea, playing on loan in the Netherlands at Vitesse, before moving to Liverpool, then Bournemouth and now Tottenham. One aspect of his early years with the Blues that shaped him was playing with his hero Didier Drogba.

"He was definitely my main idol back then, watching all the games, going to the home games at the stadium and he was obviously the main guy, scoring all the goals," he said. "Me being a striker. He was someone I always looked up to. So to have the chance to train and play with him and just see him every day, see how he trains and stuff. It was really good for my career."

On what lessons he took from the Ivory Coast star, he said: "I think just the way that he handled all the pressure of it. Obviously he was the guy that got the goals, his confidence and his aura."

Tottenham fans are hoping that Solanke continues to channel that confidence and aura as the man who brings the goals for them and fires them to success.

Ange Postecoglou makes Daniel Levy statement after Hugo Lloris' Tottenham criticism

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Ange Postecoglou has had his say on Hugo Lloris' comments about Daniel Levy and the club's ambition and stated that he does not feel restricted in what he wants to achieve at Tottenham Hotspur.

In an extract from his upcoming autobiography, Lloris spoke about the Spurs squad all being given luxury watches by Levy, four days before the 2019 Champions League final, engraved with the words ' Champions League Finalist 2019'. The Frenchman felt that meant the club were happy simply to get to the final.

Then when Tottenham lost in Madrid to Liverpool, the former captain got the impression at the post-match reception at the team hotel that some people from the club were "not sufficiently despondent at having lost....when I returned to my room on the night of the final, I think I had the same feeling as Mauricio [Pochettino] and Harry [Kane]: does the club really want to win? Real Madrid would never have celebrated a lost final, and we shouldn’t have either".

Postecoglou was asked about Lloris' comments and the suggestion of Spurs not really wanting to win and then what his impression of Levy had been after 18 months of working with the chairman.

"In my own life, people will often talk about experiences they've shared with me and I've got a totally different view on it to what they have. Both of us are speaking the truth. We all have our own truths for these things and we look at things through the prism of how it affects us," he said.

"I think Hugo's - and again I haven't read it, so I don't want to take it out of context - but Hugo's talking about his own experience but is that the experience of everyone? I'm sure Daniel had a different view on it and if you asked him he'd have a different type of context to why it transpired that way.

"I think when something doesn't work, it's very easy in a post-mortem to look for reasons why. I never think it's just one. I think it's bigger than that. It would have been a very different story if it had have gone the other way, because it was a pretty tight final as well.

"My dealings with Daniel anyway at the club... I haven't changed from the moment I took on this task. I know what ambitions I have for this football club and there's been nothing here that I feel has curtailed me achieving what I want to for this football club. A lot of that is in my own power, I control a lot of that. The rest of it is trying to get people along for the ride and to believe in what we're trying to do."

Spurs have won just a single trophy during Levy's tenure at the club - the 2008 League Cup - so would a piece of silverware for the long-awaiting fans change the impression of the club to the outside world?

"It depends what you’re talking about, in terms of I’ve always said I don’t see just a trophy as the panacea for sustained success. There’s plenty of evidence that is not the case. Not here, sport in general. Winning the league is a bit different but to sustain that is not easy," said the Australian.

"Sustained success is what I talk about a lot. It’s a lot deeper than just winning a trophy. When you're at a club of this size that hasn’t won, people think that’s the missing piece. But what I’ve been trying to rail against since I’ve been here is that it’s not just the missing piece. It’s about more than that, it’s about a clear idea of what you’re going to build, how you’re going to build and staying true to that.

"The biggest part of that is whatever sort of comes at you externally, it’s not important what people say about you, it’s how you respond to it. That’s much more important, both positive and negative - your response to it. Unless you have a clear idea of what you’re trying to do you’ll be jumping at shadows all the time.

"So I could be going, let’s just win a trophy this season and everything will be fine, but if we win a trophy, finish 10th and five games into next year I get sacked - not that it’s about me - but then the club has to change direction again. So have you really done anything? I don’t think so.

"That’s where I try to stay really clear on for us as a club we know what we want to achieve for sustained success. Does that include trophies? Absolutely. But it’s not going to be one simple thing that opens the floodgates. I don’t believe that."

Pochettino was battling against the Roman Abramovich-bankrolled Chelsea, Pep Guardiola's early Manchester City side and Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool. Now Postecoglou has a multiple-title winning City side to contend with, with Liverpool and Arsenal pushing them, if he is to push Tottenham up among the elite.

However, the Spurs boss does not believe that the gap to those at the top of the table makes it more difficult for him to realise his ambitions.

"Not necessarily. For the most part you’re competing against clubs who go through a period of sustained success, whether it’s City or Liverpool before or historically Manchester United and Arsenal. There's always clubs that have that," he explained. "What you want to do is try to become one of those clubs where you try to go through that period where for this next part we’re going to be one of those clubs.

"That’s where you’ve got to try and get to but there’s always going to be clubs who have dominant periods, most of them off the back of a clear and stable process with not a lot of change and a clear pathway forward. That’s where we are at the moment. Whether that comes to fruition, time will tell. But irrespective of what the competition is doing that’s got to be our aim and ambition - to be one of those clubs that are up there for a number of years."

Tottenham tipped to be Liverpool and Man City's closest Premier League title challengers

Tottenham can go up to third in the Premier League table this weekend and Alan Shearer has tipped them to do just that. Spurs take on Ipswich Town at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, looking to continue their fine home form.

Spurs have won their last three Premier League matches at home and their last six in all competitions. It is away from home where they have struggled somewhat.

But with the Tractor Boys to visit N17 this weekend, Ange Postecoglou will be looking for another three points to head into the final international break of 2024.

Spurs currently sit seventh in the table, but there is a scenario that would see them end the weekend and head into the international break in third place in the table.

Victory over Ipswich would move them onto 19 points, and ahead of the weekend's action the Lilywhites already have the second-best goal difference in the league - only two worse than league leaders Liverpool.

Fourth-placed Chelsea play hose to fifth-placed Arsenal in the game of the weekend, while sixth-placed Aston Villa make the difficult trip to Anfield to face Liverpool. Nottingham Forest are the shock incumbents of third place and they face 11th-placed Newcastle at the City Ground.

If Chelsea and Arsenal draw, Villa lose to or draw with Liverpool and Forest lose to Newcastle, Spurs would go up to third with victory over Ipswich on Sunday afternoon.

Betfair ambassador Shearer thinks that could happen, although he has backed Spurs to finish the weekend in fourth place, a point behind Forest in third. The former Newcastle man has backed Chelsea and Arsenal to draw, while he has also backed Liverpool to continue their fine run and beat Villa.

He does, however, think Forest and Newcastle will draw, although, speaking to Betfair, he did say "I’d be tempted to say Newcastle will win."

Speaking about Spurs' game with Villa, Shearer added: "Ipswich haven't convinced me yet and I think they'll find it really tough at Tottenham this weekend, with Spurs winning two huge games at home last week. If they manage to maintain some consistency, Ange and Spurs will have a fantastic season.

"I'd expect Tottenham to score a goal or two here with the number of chances they create, and Ipswich don’t look like they will be able to keep them at bay. Kalvin Phillips is suspended too, so another home win."

On Kulusevski moving into the middle

Not a specific moment, I said before, with Decky, the way we get our wingers to play doesn't suit him. Not his skillset, more his personality.

He's better when he's more involved, playing in the middle allows him to do that.

Is there a glut of top strikers at the moment, and is Solanke in that?

We got Lewandowski, we have Harry Kane. There's some pretty good strikers around the place.

To play in that position you have to have the right mindset. You miss your next chance, it's about taking the next one.

We're really happy with Dom. I certainly believe there's more in him, I like to play with strikers and dabbled with false nines because I was bored for a season.

Open Premier League this season?

Yeah its fair to say, apart from Liverpool, anyone has real consistency. Some of the clubs mentioned have significant injuries.

You saw it with us last year, it hurts you, its part of it. Forest have been really good, Brighton have been good.

Ipswich? How much more

Yeah I think every weekend, every league game has its potential to hurt you if youre not at your best. Ipswich will be no different.

They got close last week, close the week before. I think Kieran McKenna has done an unbelievable job.

Heung-min Son? 100% back his best?

Yeah like I said, for Sonny, he obviously had the injury and we brought him back and he had a relapse. We don’t want to put him in that position.

We’re building him up, managing his minutes, hopefully we can build that up. We can’t afford more injuries in that position. We got Wilson, Richy, Mikey, we can’t afford to lose another player.

On Richarlison

Very disappointed. We tried to take a different approach.

He’d really trimmed down in terms of his conditioning. We were doing everything right, trying not to overload him but unfortunately he broke down again. He's disappointed.

Latest team news.

Everyone came through unscathed so no issues there.

Cristian we'll see how he goes in the next couple of days. He has a chance for the weekend.

Mikey, not right for the weekend, Timo too.

Things spotted during Tottenham vs Galatasaray

Tottenham's 100% start to their Europa League campaign came to an end on Thursday evening following a 3-2 defeat against Galatasaray. Fresh from last Sunday's 4-1 win over Aston Villa, Ange Postecoglou made a total of seven changes to his Spurs team as players such as Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Yves Bissouma and James Maddison came in for a start.

Will Lankshear was also named in the team as he led the line in place of first-choice striker Dominic Solanke. Six minutes were on the clock when Yunus Akgun opened the scoring for the hosts with an unstoppable volley from 25 yards that flew into the top corner of Fraser Forster's goal.

Galatasaray would only lead for a total of 12 minutes as Lankshear levelled things up from close range to register his first senior goal for the club. Moments after having a goal chalked off for offside, Victor Osimhen's next attempt counted as he took advantage of some sloppy play from Spurs to put the Turkish giants ahead for the second time in the encounter.

Tottenham Player Ratings

Tottenham Hotspur fell to a 3-2 defeat at Galatasaray in the Europa League on Thursday night and here are our Spurs player ratings from the game.

Spurs travelled to Turkey for a tough game in a hostile atmosphere at RAMS Park in Istanbul against a Galatasaray side with a host of stars in their squad including striker Victor Osimhen and former Tottenham man Davinson Sanchez. They sit top of the Turkish top flight with an unbeaten record and came into the game fifth in the big Europa League group table.

The visitors were second in that table after three straight wins and Ange Postecoglou made seven changes to his team from the one that beat Aston Villa 4-1 on Sunday, despite having six players unavailable. Spurs welcome Ipswich Town in the Premier League just two-and-a-half days after they land back in the UK on Friday morning and Postecoglou will need fresh legs.

The latest on team news

Ange Postecoglou has revealed that Timo Werner and Mikey Moore will miss Tottenham's Europa League tie against Galatasaray on Thursday evening. Spurs have suffered some injuries in recent weeks, with Cristian Romero and Richarlison limping off in the second half of last Sunday's 4-1 win over Aston Villa.
