Tottenham's transfer priority in January revealed after 10 games of the season

Tottenham Hotspur's season is now 10 games in and Ange Postecoglou will already be well aware of what he needs in the January transfer window.

Spurs' performances have not always brought their rewards during the first couple of months of the new campaign with the north London side recording six wins from the opening 10 matches, as well as one draw and three defeats. Postecoglou has had to deal with the addition of European football this term and with that the need to comply with the squad registration rules.

Those restrictions have meant Djed Spence and Sergio Reguilon were left out of the Australian's 23-man Europa League squad for the expanded new league phase of the competition, which lasts until the end of January.

That also needs to be taken into account when Spurs look for new additions in the winter transfer window with the understanding that if any changes are to be made to the Europa League squad, then other players will have to be taken out of it.

So let's start with what Tottenham don't need in the January window. They have a couple of strikers now in Dominic Solanke and Richarlison, with 19-year-old Will Lankshear having also made his debut in Europe and Son Heung-min able to play in the role. That means another new forward is likely to be lower down the priority list if those options remain the same.

Postecoglou has right-backs aplenty in Pedro Porro, Spence and also 18-year-old Archie Gray, who has played most of his minutes in the position since arriving from Leeds.

There are also a large number of number eights now with Dejan Kulusevski adding to Spurs' creative options in the centre of the pitch as well as the teenager Lucas Bergvall continuing to gain experience. A new senior number six would not be out of the question with neither of Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur able to make the position their own. Gray is a potential long term answer to that position but much depends on when Postecoglou will decide to unleash him in the role.

Spurs have plenty of wingers when everyone is fit with Son, Brennan Johnson, Timo Werner, Wilson Odobert, Richarlison and Kulusevski able to to play in the position with Yang Min-hyeok arriving in January, although it's a position that the club will always keep an eye on.

A new goalkeeper to challenge Guglielmo Vicario will be required in 2025 but whether it comes in January is another thing, because that new stopper would simply swap with Fraser Forster in the Europa League squad and not actually fix any of the registration issues.

The main deficiency in Postecoglou's squad continues to be the left side of the defence, both in terms of a centre-back and at left-back.

Ben Davies has been filling in as the left-sided centre-back although with his contract running towards its conclusion, it seems increasingly likely that his long-term future could lie elsewhere. The Wales international does not suit Postecoglou's inverted full-back position either.

Spence has been filling in at left-back to cover Destiny Udogie outside of the Europa League, while Reguilon is not part of the Tottenham head coach's plans going forward.

In an ideal world, the perfect signing in January would be a fleet-footed left-sided centre-back, who can also play as a Postecoglou left-back if required.

That way they can bring the pace required from at least one covering defender with the Australian's high line and also their versatility would prevent the need to try to crowbar further players into the Europa League squad - if Spurs progress to the knockout stages - while taking others out.

In essence, the north London club need to clone Micky van de Ven. Even if they can do that, to put him in the Europa League would still require someone to drop out.

Postecoglou will already have discussed the various scenarios with technical director Johan Lange and head of scouting Robert Mackenzie. All eyes will be on January and what they decide.

Ange Postecoglou's strongest Tottenham XI vs West Ham

Description

Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham will be desperate to return to winning ways after their capitulation at Brighton & Hove Albion last time out. On course to make it six wins in a row in all competitions with a 2-0 half-time lead, Spurs fell apart in the remaining 45 minutes and left the south coast on the back of a 3-2 defeat.

The result leaves Tottenham ninth in the Premier League table after seven games. The north London club currently trail Chelsea in fourth by four points and they cannot afford for that lead to be extended.

It will certainly not be easy against West Ham in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off once the current international break has come to an end. The Hammers will be more confident following a 4-1 win over Ipswich Town last Saturday but that was only their second league victory of the campaign under new boss Julen Lopetegui.

Ahead of the game in N17, Postecoglou will be hoping for some positive news on the injury front. Richarlison, Son Heung-min and Wilson Odobert are currently on the sidelines for the Lilywhites, with the Brazilian giving the team a lift this week after undergoing some training on the grass at Hotspur Way.

Postecoglou will most definitely be keeping his fingers crossed over the course of the international break that no more injuries occur. At a time when Spurs need to bounce back with three points, the 59-year-old will not want any other players to join the trio in the treatment room.

Lucas Bergvall has told Ange Postecoglou what he wants to hear at Tottenham

Lucas Bergvall says he was “disappointed” at being substituted just 12 minutes into his second Tottenham start due to Radu Dragusin's red card against Qarabag but understood Ange Postecoglou's decision. This is exactly what the Spurs boss will want to hear.

Dragusin was dismissed for hauling down opposing attacker Juninho just seven minutes into the Europa League contest before Bergvall was taken off for Destiny Udogie five minutes later. The Swede did last 65 minutes in the 2-1 away win at Ferencvaros a week later, grabbing the assist for Pape Matar Sarr’s opener.

That marked his third start for Spurs, having been handed his full debut in the 2-1 away win over Coventry City in the League Cup a fortnight earlier. Bergvall has been handed five other appearances from the bench, albeit has yet to make a Premier League line-up so far.

He’s tallied 46 minutes of league action across those stints but failed to come off the bench in the 3-2 collapse to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday. Ahead of Sweden’s Nations League matches this international break, native reporters were keen to ask him about his early substitution against Qarabag.

“Of course I was disappointed, but you should be,” Bergvall said as per Fotbolldirekt. “I completely understood the decision. It was just a matter of letting go and moving on.”

Bergvall previously said his main aim upon his transfer to Tottenham was simply to make his debut. But since earning regular minutes following his opening-day bow, the 18-year-old admitted he might need to update his ultimate ambitions.

In response to those previous comments being put back to him, the midfielder laughed: “Ha ha, first goal completed now! I don’t know what my expectations were, it was more to get there and see where it would take me. It was incredibly fun to make my debut.”

These comments show Bergvall's drive to succeed, being unhappy at being taken off but putting it behind him and setting his sights on bigger aspirations. After the horrid collapse at Brighton before the international break, this is the type of mentality Spurs need to adopt to ensure that result was a blip rather than a trend.

How the 16 players who left Tottenham in 2024 are faring

Ange Postecoglou has undertaken a major overhaul of his Tottenham squad and that means 16 players in 2024 alone left the club and are plying their trade elsewhere.

The sheer volume of outgoing stars was part of one of the largest turnover of players in Spurs' recent history with many long-serving members of Postecoglou's first team leaving, while the U21s have also seen some notable exits in the past year as the academy undergoes its own overhaul.

football.london has taken a look across England, Europe and America to see exactly how all of the former first team players and a couple of notable U21s have got on since walking out through the Tottenham Hotspur exit door on a permanent basis in 2024.

Tanguy Ndombele

Tanguy Ndombele is finally getting what he's needed for years, regular game time and feeling like he's home. He seems to have got that at Nice so far.

The 27-year-old has played 562 minutes across eight matches with a goal and an assist, since Spurs came to an agreement with him to end his contract a year early, half a decade after he became the club's record signing.

The Frenchman took a big pay cut to return home and has earned plenty of plaudits for his performances under new Nice boss Franck Haise. He has started six of the club's seven La Liga games so far this season, missing only one match with a muscle injury. Ndombele had not started five league games in a row, as he has this season, since late 2021 at Tottenham.

In the most recent draw against PSG, Ndombele was named man of the match across the board by the media.

"He is someone who needs – and he isn't the only one – a climate of trust and that is what we are trying to bring to him," said Haise. "But beyond the atmosphere around the club that has been put in place, it is Tanguy first and foremost who is ensuring that it is going well."

He added: "Little by little, we are re-discovering the player that we knew a few years ago. What I see from his matches, I think in terms of confidence, it is going pretty well. Confidence comes from working hard, through your investment."

Giovani Lo Celso

Lo Celso is the most recent player to leave Spurs after five years and he's been in wonderful form on his return Real Betis.

The 28-year-old exited in the deadline day transfer that will net Tottenham £8.4million plus add-ons with a sell-on clause as well as an agreement to sign midfielder Johnny Cardoso for a cheaper fee in the future or get a sell-on fee of sorts for the 23-year-old USA international.

Lo Celso had his own Brennan Johnson-like run with goals in four consecutive La Liga games - five scored in total across those games - and the Argentina international has been a shining light on his homecoming.

Troy Parrott

Parrott left Tottenham for Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar in July in a £6.7million deal which also includes a 20% sell-on clause for the north London side.

After impressing with goals in pre-season for his new club, the 22-year-old has added another six goals in 10 competitive matches so far for third-placed Alkmaar. Four of those goals came in a remarkable 9-1 victory against Heerenveen last month and the Republic of Ireland international also scored the winning goal from the spot in the Europa League match against Elfsborg.

Parrott has played a lot of football for the Dutch side with 794 minutes of action across those 10 matches - all starts - and he will soon have a reunion with Spurs as Alkmaar travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on October 24 in the Europa League.

Former Tottenham star Rafael van der Vaart said of Parrott recently: "He’s going to be a really big player. I saw him at Excelsior, but then he was more on the counter. Now he is a good, footballing striker who actually has everything. He just needs to develop his killer instinct a bit. He is a gem.

"He can perhaps play football a bit too well to be a killer. Then you start wandering a bit and that costs strength. In the final phase you lack some strength to score. I really think he is a gem."

Oliver Skipp

Oliver Skipp departed Spurs this summer after 18 years at the club and more than 100 first team appearances to his name to join up with fellow academy product Harry Winks at Leicester City.

The 23-year-old's deal will bring the club more than £20million plus a sell-on clause. Skipp has started five of the eight matches he's been available for since joining the Foxes.

In Leicester Live's player ratings from the weekend's win against Bournemouth, they handed Skipp a seven, saying: "A little anonymous at Arsenal, he was much more involved here. In the first half, he won loads of 50-50s to help City push Bournemouth back, while he scurried around, snapping at ankles all game. His passing was good, albeit his most ambitious through balls to Vardy didn’t come off."

Emerson Royal

It wasn't the best start in Italy for Emerson Royal, who moved to AC Milan this summer in a deal worth £12.6million plus add-ons.

Italian football expert James Horncastle initially went in hard on the 25-year-old when he said: "Milan keep conceding the same goal too, down Emerson Royal’s side. His €15million signing from Tottenham Hotspur looks like the biggest donation in the history of Fondazione Milan as the club charitably tries to make his wish to become a footballer come true."

The Brazilian has started every game since with Milan winning the bulk of them with him at right-back and he has improved, although the club's fans appear yet to be convinced by the former Tottenham man, particularly with the player he replaced, Pierre Kalulu, impressing at Juventus.

Ryan Sessegnon

Spurs decided not to take up the option of the additional year on Sessegnon's contract in the summer and he returned to Fulham, meaning that all of the arrivals in that 2019 window went back to their previous side at some point after joining Spurs.

For 24-year-old Sessegnon, he is returning to fitness and sharpness following those hamstring problems and has got two 90 minute-stints under his belt in Fulham's Carabao Cup games, getting an assist in the third round at Preston before a penalty shoot-out defeat, scoring twice during that shoot-out including his team's penultimate penalty.

His appearance against Birmingham in the previous round was the first time the left-back had started a match since January 2023, before the hamstring problems really began to take hold. With operations on both legs, Sessegnon will be hoping for more fortune in his career from now on.

He has appeared on the bench twice in the Premier League for Fulham during this stint, but is yet to play in the competition for them this time around.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

We're including Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg even though he's on loan at Marseille as he technically joined the Ligue 1 outfit with an obligation to buy.

The 29-year-old midfielder has captained the French side three times in the past five matches, having also been named as the new skipper of Denmark, taking on the armband from Simon Kjaer ahead of previous vice-captains Christian Eriksen and Kasper Schmeichel.

Hojbjerg has only tasted defeat as a Marseille player once, against Strasbourg when he had to play as a centre-back due to injuries for Roberto De Zerbi's Ligue 1 side.

Joe Rodon

Joe Rodon has carried on where he left off with Leeds on loan last season with minutes aplenty as they try to earn promotion back to the Premier League at the second time of asking.

The Wales international moved to the Elland Road club permanently as part of the deal that brought Archie Gray in the opposite direction to N17 this summer and he has played all but four minutes of the club's 10 matches so far in the Championship and Carabao Cup.

Rodon has a Tottenham team-mate to look after during this season at the club after Manor Solomon joined up on loan in August for the campaign ahead.

Japhet Tanganga

As with Sessegnon, Spurs did not take up the option to extend Japhet Tanganga's contract by its final year. Instead the 25-year-old signed on a free transfer for Millwall after impressing for the Championship side on loan last season.

After a stop-start career at Tottenham due to injuries, the centre-back continues to be an ever-present for Millwall in the league after seeing out a three-game suspension from last season. Despite Millwall's struggles in the attacking third, Tanganga has played his part in three clean sheets already in his first seven matches.

Ivan Perisic

Ivan Perisic stopped being a Tottenham employee this summer, having already joined Hajduk Split in January on loan until the end of his contract and he agreed a deal to then play for the Croatian side this season. However, the arrival of Gennaro Gattuso altered the outlook on his future at the club and the 35-year-old's contract was mutually terminated.

He is now trying out another new league after moving to Dutch side PSV Eindhoven, where he has started the past two matches. Perisic has a one-year contract but will miss out on Champions League football in the league phase at least after signing after the registration period closed.

Eric Dier

Dier joined Harry Kane at Bayern Munich on a loan deal earlier this year with an option for the Bundesliga club to sign him permanently, which was triggered before last season ended and he moved officially when his contract ended this summer.

The 29-year-old has settled in well on the whole at the Bavarian giants, becoming a father for the first time while out there, and he's now played 23 times for the Munich club across 2024, but he is not getting much game time under new boss Vincent Kompany.

Dier has played just nine minutes across two games in the Bundesliga, with four league matches spent unused on the bench, as well as 21 minutes in the Champions League. In all he's been an unused substitute in six matches across all competitions.

Jude Soonsup-Bell

Jude Soonsup-Bell had a great season last time out for Spurs U21s and helped them to the Premier League 2 title and play-off trophy. However, a first team breakthrough wasn't on the cards in north London and the 20-year-old instead departed for Spanish second division side Cordoba in a deal that came with no fee but a 40% sell-on clause instead.

The attacker has since appeared in four matches in La Liga 2, with 45 minutes across those games and Cordoba's struggles in the attacking third could see him get more opportunities before long.

Yago Santiago

Another former Spurs player now in the Spanish second tier is Yago Santiago. The 21-year-old winger left the north London club after half a decade and returned home to Spain to sign for Elche.

Santiago's start to life in senior football began well with three starts and a goal against Soonsup-Bell's Cordoba side. However, the young wide man then suffered an injury which kept him out for a month before returning to the bench for last weekend's 1-0 defeat at Racing Ferrol.

Nile John

One of Soonsup-Bell and Santiago's former Spurs U21s team-mates is currently in Portugal in the shape of Nile John. The midfielder left Tottenham after eight years at the club, coming through the academy to make two first team appearances, before joining Portuguese second tier side Feirense in the summer.

The 21-year-old midfielder has played four games of the six he's been available for in the league and while John hasn't started since the opening couple of games after his arrival, he is getting plenty of senior minutes to his name.

Charlie Sayers

Sayers departed Tottenham this summer and signed for Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle. The 20-year-old defender, who can play as a left-back or centre-back, joined Spurs from Southend in 2021 and was involved in a first team pre-season tour to South Korea two years ago. However, an eye injury and further injury woes interrupted his progress and he was released by the club this summer.

Sayers has so far made one nine-minute league appearance for his new club, among a string of unused substitute roles but did play the full 90 minutes in the third round of the Scottish Challenge Cup as Thistle lost 3-1 at Alloa.

Hugo Lloris

The former Tottenham captain left the club back in January for a new adventure in MLS with LAFC after 11 years in north London and he has already won silverware.

The 37-year-old World Cup winner has now played 40 times for the Los Angeles side across league and cup matches, keeping 17 clean sheets and conceding 34 goals in the other games.

Lloris lifted the US Open Cup last month after LAFC's extra-time win against Kansas City as the Frenchman added another trophy to his CV and the Frenchman has been making some eye-catching saves in recent weeks for the MLS side.

min hint and four academy stars training with Ange Postecoglou

The Premier League may be on pause at present but that doesn't mean the work stops for Ange Postecoglou at Hotspur Way. The second international break of the 2024/25 campaign is now upon us and a large number of the Spurs squad are currently with their respective nations across the globe.

Despite losing a decent amount of his players, Postecoglou still has a handful of the first team to work with as they get their plans in place for the Premier League home clash against West Ham. It really is a game Spurs need to take maximum points from after surrendering a two-goal lead at Brighton & Hove Albion last Sunday and eventually losing the game 3-2.

Postecoglou's squad could possibly look slightly different for the West Ham game after once again missing some key players at the Amex. Richarlison and Son Heung-min were two notable absentees on the south coast due to injury.

Richarlison last featured for the team in August's 4-0 win over Everton, with his first-team action this season totalling 25 minutes from two games. Injuries have meant the Brazilian's career at Tottenham has been extremely stop-start and Postecoglou will be hoping that he can get a consistent run of games out of the 27-year-old as he needs cover for Dominic Solanke with so many games on the agenda.

Richarlison certainly does look like he is stepping up his fitness ahead of the return of Premier League football if Tottenham's latest training images are anything to go by. Taking to their Instagram account on Wednesday, the club uploaded a total of nine images of Richarlison putting in the work on the pitch at Hotspur Way.

The attacker does appear to be working away from the rest of the first team at present while he works on his fitness. Appearing to be stepping up his fitness with a number of running drills, one positive sign for all concerned is he is working with the ball again.

In the training images published by Spurs, there didn't appear to be any sign of Son or Wilson Odobert working outside just yet as they look to return to action ASAP from their respective injuries. James Maddison and goalkeepers Fraser Forster, Alfie Whiteman and Brandon Austin also didn't feature in the images published by the club.

In terms of those remaining behind at Hotspur Way during the international break and training for the West Ham game, Sergio Reguilon, Djed Spence, Rodrigo Bentancur and Timo Werner were just some of the first-team stars photographed at the club's Enfield base.

A selection of academy players also got the nod to make the step up to the senior squad and boost the numbers in training. Tyrese Hall and Max Robson, who have trained with the first team numerous times in the past, were two of those given the green light to work alongside the senior players.

Dante Cassanova and Damola Ajayi were also with the first team again having travelled to Budapest last week for Tottenham's Europa League tie against Ferencvaros. The duo, along with Alfie Dorrington, were named on the bench at the Groupama Arena but did not feature in the 2-1 win.

It won't be until the end of next week when the numbers in training start to pick up with international fixtures taking place until the early hours of Wednesday morning due to the South American World Cup qualifiers. Until then, those involved in training will have the opportunity to work closely with Postecoglou and try and force their way into his plans for the West Ham match.

Wilson Odobert delivers injury update amid disappointment at Tottenham absence

Tottenham winger Wilson Odobert has said he is working hard to come back from the hamstring injury that cut short his introduction to life at the club.

The 19-year-old arrived at Spurs from Burnley in August in a £30million deal and soon made an impact with a bright debut against Everton before another start at Newcastle, followed by a cameo from the bench against Arsenal last month. However, just 18 minutes into the Carabao Cup win at Coventry, Odobert suffered a serious hamstring injury when chasing back to try to recover the ball.

At a club event as local sixth-form students got a look at careers in the world of sport and technology at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday, the Frenchman spoke about his injury. He said: "I’m disappointed about this injury but I’m working hard now to come back and play again. I just need to keep pushing and keep working."

Ange Postecoglou had initially said about Odobert following the game at Coventry: "Wilson doesn’t look good, we are still waiting for it to settle down and get all the information but he will definitely be out for the next period."

The Spurs boss has since referred to the winger as one of the longer injury absences at the club with the hope that Son Heung-min and Richarlison will return shortly after this international break.

Postecoglou will be looking forward to Odobert's return as he has high hopes for the dribbler.

"I was excited by the way he went about things," he said after his debut against Everton. "He always wants to take his opponent on, you know, even if he hasn't been successful, he goes at him again and this is a 19-year-old playing for his new club in front of 60,000 people, and just played football the way he wants to play it, and I love that about him.

“He got tired in the second-half, but it’s really exciting for us that another young player comes in that is going to make us a better team.”

He added: "He's different from our other wingers. He goes at his opponent and, you know, even if he wasn't successful, he went at him again and I think that's exactly why we bought him to the club. I mean, he's 19-years-old, his first game for his new club at home in front of 60,000. Yeah, really exciting."

Ryan Mason set to stay at Tottenham after Anderlecht talks come to a close

Ryan Mason is set to remain at Tottenham Hotspur after an approach from Belgian side Anderlecht.

The Jupiler Pro League side approached the Spurs first team coach this month but after discussions over the past few days, football.london understands that both parties have mutually decided the timing isn't right.

The 33-year-old is understood to enjoy being part of Ange Postecoglou's project at Tottenham and will continue his role within the Australian's staff, which contains Matt Wells, Nick Montgomery, Sergio Raimundo, Mile Jedinak and goalkeeping coach Rob Burch.

Brian Riemer was sacked as Anderlecht boss last month after two years at the club with them struggling in the Jupiler Pro League and they currently sit fourth in the table with just four wins from their 10 matches so far. Mason became one of the frontrunners to take over as the new head coach of the Belgian giants.

Mason has had two previous spells in caretaker charge of Spurs, first after Jose Mourinho left the club and then in the wake of Antonio Conte's departure.

The young coach took charge of 13 matches in total for Tottenham, recording six wins, one draw and six defeats, with 26 goals scored and 21 conceded. He was at the helm for Spurs' Carabao Cup final appearance against Manchester City in 2021, which Pep Guardiola's side won with a late Aymeric Laporte goal. He was only 29 during his first spell in charge of Spurs and was the youngest manager to ever coach a Premier League match.

Lucas Bergvall breaks silence on Ange Postecoglou Tottenham substitute decision in Europa League

Description

Lucas Bergvall has revealed that he was "disappointed" by his early substitution in Tottenham's game against Qarabag but he understood Ange Postecoglou's decision. Making his second Spurs start since making the move from Swedish side Djurgarden, the midfielder was replaced on 12 minutes following Radu Dragusin's red card five minutes earlier.

The youngster looked completely gutted on the Tottenham bench following his substitution, with TV cameras panning to him watching the game with his hood up and jacket zipped to the top covering his mouth. Despite the early blow on what was such a huge night for him as he made his European debut for the club, Bergvall did start in their following Europa League game away at Ferencvaros.

Now on Sweden international duty after once again getting the nod for the senior side, the 18-year-old was quizzed on his early substitution against Qarabag.

"Of course you were disappointed, as you should be," he said, as reported by Swedish publication Aftonbladet. "But after that it was just a matter of letting it go and moving on. I completely understand the decision that he is making. It was just a matter of letting it go and moving on."

On making his European debut, he added: "It was incredibly fun. Something you've dreamed of since you were little to debut in the Europa League, so it was big for me."

Speaking to the media the following day after the win over Qarabag, Postecoglou was asked about how Bergvall had reacted to the incident and the Australian claimed that the starlet was "flying" in training.

"No, but he’ll know that. We entrusted him with starting a really important game for us, so he knows how we feel about him," said Postecoglou. "It was a tactical decision. He was disappointed. I expect him to be disappointed, but he’s going to have plenty of moments like that in his career.

"It’s always about how you respond to those things, how you grow from those things. He was training this morning - and he was flying - so he’s all good."

Before Tottenham return to Premier League action against West Ham, Bergvall will be looking to make his mark on the international stage with Sweden. Even if he plays or not, Tottenham's No.15 wants to contribute as much as he can.

"It's fun to come back," he said. "Two tough games now, especially against Slovakia. We will continue on the track we are on, I hope to contribute as much as I can even if I play or not."

Mauricio Pochettino's £93.5m transfer gift to Enzo Maresca as Chelsea reality becomes clear

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is seemingly benefitting from the work completed by his predecessor, Mauricio Pochettino.

The Blues replaced Pochettino with Maresca in the summer after the former Tottenham Hotspur boss spent just one season in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino guided Chelsea to sixth in the Premier League last season and reached the FA Cup semi-final before leaving the club.

Maresca has taken over and is enjoying an impressive start to life as Chelsea manager, with the club currently fourth in the Premier League standings and are unbeaten in their last seven fixtures across all competitions.

Chelsea had a busy transfer window in the summer, but Maresca is also using several players either signed under Pochettino or who were key players under the former Blues boss.

In fact, the market value of several Chelsea stars have increased since Pochettino's reign began nearly 18 months ago.

One of the most notable changes is Cole Palmer's market value, which was just €18million (£15million) when he signed from Manchester City according to Transfermarkt. The England international now has a value of €90million (£75.3million), which represents an increase off around £60million.

Nicolas Jackson is another player who has thrived at Chelsea since being signed by Pochettino in 2023. The striker's value was €30million (£25million) when he arrived from Villarreal a little over a year ago but that has now increased to €40million (£33.5million), an increase of £8.5million.

Levi Colwill has also gone on to become a key player for Chelsea at the heart of Maresca's defence. At the start of Pochettino's reign in 2023 the centre-back had a market value of €30million (£25million) and that has now increased to €50million (£42million), which marks a difference of £17million.

Another player who has succeeded at Chelsea over the last 18 months is Malo Gusto. After officially arriving from Lyon in the summer of 2023 with a market value of €25million (£21million), that has increased to €35million (£29million).

All of this mean that those four Chelsea stars have seen their market values increase by a total of £93.5million from the time of Pochettino's appointment to the present day with Maresca at the helm.

Arsenal and Tottenham handed Bukayo Saka and Dominic Solanke worry after England announcement

England's latest squad announcement could create a worry for both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

Both the Gunners and Spurs are having a two-week break for the October round of international fixtures and do not return to Premier League action until later this month.

The international break will see the Three Lions face Greece and Finland in the Nations League, with interim manager Lee Carsley overseeing his second round of fixtures since Gareth Southgate's departure in the summer.

England confirmed on Wednesday that Harry Kane and Jack Grealish are dealing with fitness concerns heading into Thursday night's match against Greece.

Kane suffered a knock during Bayern Munich's draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga at the weekend, while Grealish played an hour during Manchester City's win over Fulham in the Premier League.

The Three Lions stated that Kane is currently taking part in an individual training programme, while Grealish missed training entirely on Wednesday with a knock.

Both players are now doubts to feature for England on Thursday, which could mean members of the Arsenal and Tottenham squad get more minutes.

Dominic Solanke was called up to the England squad by Carsley, and after the fitness concern to Kane the Spurs striker could be in line to start against Greece at Wembley Stadium, and may also start against Finland depending on Kane's recovery.

Should Grealish also be unavailable, then Bukayo Saka may be given more minutes across the matches against Greece and Finland. If that is to be the case, then both Arsenal and Spurs will be hoping that their star players return to training after the international break without any fitness or injury concerns.

Arsenal will face Bournemouth on October 19 in the Premier League in their first match after the international break, while Spurs will host West Ham on the same day.
