Gary Neville says Tottenham could bank £100m for player Man City boss Pep Guardiola loves

Tottenham may not like the idea of losing Dejan Kulusevski this summer - but the deal could be worthwhile if Gary Neville's valuation is anything to go by.

The Sky Sports pundit and Manchester United icon has suggested the Swedish star may be worth as much as £100million in the past. And not only that, but even Pep Guardiola has admitted to being blown away by the player when his Manchester City side faced Spurs.

Rumours are swirling that Kulusevski could be leaving north London this summer amid interest from Aston Villa and Napoli, who are now managed by former Spurs boss Antonio Conte. It was the Italian who brought the winger to the Premier League in January 2022, and Calciomercato has reported he wants to bring his former disciple back to Serie A.

Kulusevski, 24, has spoken highly of Conte in the past and even went to bat for the tactician when he publicly criticised his squad shortly before his 2023 exit. He referred to the former Juventus and Inter Milan coach as a "a very important man" in his career, and one whom he respected a lot.

And Conte isn't the only manager who appears to hold 'Deki' in high regard after he also caught the eye of Guardiola last year. Kulusevski played a key role in salvaging a point for Spurs when they drew 3-3 at the Etihad Stadium in December 2023, setting up one goal before netting a last-minute equaliser.

"What a player," said Guardiola of the Swede after watching Kulusevski pull the strings for Tottenham that day. Despite bursting onto the scene as a winger, Kulusevski came to thrive in a makeshift No10 role last winter while James Maddison was sidelined through injury.

Neville went into even greater detail appreciating the player when he again dazzled in a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest less than a fortnight later. And it left the former Red Devil thinking Ange Postecoglou's rising star could one day fetch as much as nine figures.

"Players that play in that role, that take it on the back foot and accept it on the back foot, the attacking midfielders, the No 10s, any player of that ilk, they're very rare to be able to do that," he told Sky Sports. "What we've seen in the last few weeks is him playing that role and become one of the rare players.

"You're talking about him going from a player who might be £50million on the right to being something that if he gets going in that No 10 position, can be really special and then you're pushing it to an £80m or £100m player."

It seems highly unlikely Napoli would be able to fork out such a fee this summer without making some substantial sales of their own. The Italian giants have already spent around £40m on new players in this window without conducting any notable sales thus far.

Conte is backed by former Juventus youth director Giovanni Manna, who left Turin this summer to join him in Naples. He too will be familiar with Kulusevski's quality, but the duo may have to accept this deal is beyond their grasp this summer.

Tottenham face easy £60m summer call after Richarlison shows true colours with transfer message - Football.London
Description

Talk of Richarlison sealing a summer move to Saudi Arabia shows no sign of going away as we edge ever closer to the new football season. Linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League over the past year, the latest reports from Saudi outlet Al-Riyadiyah claim that Al-Ahli are monitoring the Tottenham ace ahead of a potential transfer.

Richarlison is not the only player Al-Ahli are keen on as they are also believed to be keeping tabs on Arsenal frontman Gabriel Jesus. Amid previous speculation over his future, the ex-Everton man issued an update back in May and indicated that any talk of him leaving Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer is "fake news".

"I gave up my holidays and came to work in Sao Paulo so I can come back better next season," he wrote on his Instagram account. "What's been happening in the media these last few days is all fake news. I will not be leaving England next season."

Despite his stance that he will not be departing England ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, question marks still remain over his future in north London. If indeed Al-Ahli are to submit an offer around the £60million mark then Tottenham may have something to think about prior to the summer transfer deadline.

Richarlison has not proved value for money since his £60million transfer from Everton in the summer of 2022 and the opportunity for Spurs to recoup that fee could be too good to turn down. After all, the striker has contributed with 16 goals and eight assists in his 66 appearances for Tottenham.

His first season in the capital proved to be extremely frustrating as three separate injuries resulted in him spending time in the treatment room. When he was fully fit and available, the 27-year-old only managed three goals, with two of those coming on his Champions League debut against Marseille.

His second campaign at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was much better, although injury once again limited his football with four different spells out injured. He did, however, score 12 goals for the Lilywhites and also laid on four assists for his teammates.

Richarlison enjoyed a very fruitful couple of months in a Tottenham shirt as he hit nine goals in an eight-game spell between December and February as he demonstrated to all just what he can do when playing regularly and his confidence is high. Unfortunately, injury would once again leave Spurs without their frontman but he did demonstrate his value to the team on a couple of occasions late in the season.

At a time when Son Heung-min was struggling for form when leading the line as that is just not his game, Richarlison came off from the bench in the defeats against Arsenal and Liverpool to completely change the match for Tottenham. Spurs looked so much better for having the Brazilian on the pitch against the Gunners as he offered them a focal point and almost inspired an unlikely comeback, with the player the following weekend then scoring and assisting as the Lilywhites gave Liverpool an almighty scare in the closing stages after initially trailing 4-0.

Richarlison's never-say-die attitude and his quality in the final third was very much on show in those two fixtures but his outing at Anfield proved to be his last of the campaign as injury brought his season to an early close. Injuries have proved extremely problematic for the player since his move to the club and stopped him delivering for the team on a consistent basis, aside of course from that fine spell in front of goal between December and February.

That is why Tottenham perhaps could not be blamed if they were to take the money if a £60million offer was to arrive from Saudi Arabia. Spurs do appear to be a much better team when Richarlison is in the side, though, which in turn gives them a huge decision to make if a bid is to be submitted.

A player who frustrates his opponents due to his strength, running, quality in the air and incredible desire and work rate, his defensive qualities are also a massive plus to Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham and are very much missed when he is not in the side. Having Richarlison in the team also brings out the best in Son as the South Korean operates in his favoured position on the left and is not instead nullified if trying to play from a central position.

There is no doubt that Tottenham do need to look at their striker department ahead of the new season and that is even before you consider a possible Richarlison exit. The Lilywhites have not yet replaced Harry Kane following his move to Bayern Munich on the eve of the 2024/25 season and the addition of a prolific goalscorer could be a gamechanger for Postecoglou and Spurs considering the amount of chances they create.

In an ideal world, it should be Richarlison and a proven goalscorer as the head coach's options heading into the 2024/25 campaign. If the Brazilian is to leave, Spurs would then find themselves in a position where they need to bring in two new strikers prior to the 11pm transfer deadline on Friday, August 30.

Tottenham have been linked with a handful of strikers this summer but those names mentioned are perhaps no better than the current owner of the No.9 shirt in north London, thus raising the question why you would part with the Brazil star in the first place. Tottenham are better for having a fit Richarlison as part of Postecoglou's squad but the main issue is ensuring he remains fit over the course of a campaign.

If indeed he can do that next season, Richarlison could prove to be a key figure in Postecoglou's plans providing that he remains at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond the closure of the summer transfer window. Time will tell if that is the case.

season tour squad as Ange Postecoglou stance clear

Description

Tottenham have confirmed that both Bryan Gil and Sergio Reguilon are free to 'explore prospective transfer opportunities' after the pair were left out of Ange Postecoglou's touring pre-season touring squad of Asia. Spurs have already played twice this summer in preparation for the 2024/25 campaign, and sweeping changes are afoot.

Squad options from last term have already been removed from Postecoglou's group in the months following last season whilst work towards the sales of others continues. Now, with the Australian head coach naming a 31-man group for their upcoming fixtures, more departures are in the works.

Having beaten Hearts and Queen's Park Rangers so far, Spurs will next face Vissel Kobe before rounding off their time away with matches against K-League All-Stars side as well as Bayern Munich before getting to business. By which point both Gil and Reguilon could have new clubs.

The club state that the Spanish duo have been 'granted permission' to seek deals for themselves. Meanwhile, Emerson Royal hasn't been offered the same freedom.

He is a player Spurs are willing to sell but have so far been unable to find a suitor willing to pay the desired price for. Gil played less of a role last season and only made 12 appearances in all competitions, with his progress once again hampered by injury. He still has two years left on his contract.

As for Reguilon, he spent the entirety of 2023/24 on loan. First at Manchester United, as cover for Luke Shaw, and then at Brentford, the 27-year-old did manage to get himself some Premier League game time once again but with Destiny Udogie ahead of him in the pecking order in north London, it wasn't enough to make Postecoglou consider his options.

Reguilon is out of contract next summer, when he would be able to leave for free if he was to still be on the books at Tottenham. In January he would be able to negotiate an exit with clubs outside of Europe ahead of the 2025 summer window as well.

Tottenham full 2024 pre-season squad:

Goalkeepers: Guglielmo Vicario, Brandon Austin, Alfie Whiteman, Luca Gunter

Defenders: George Abbott, Ben Davies, Radu Dragusin (Korea only), Ashley Phillips, Pedro Porro, Emerson Royal, Djed Spence, Destiny Udogie

Midfielders: Lucas Bergvall, Yves Bissouma, Alfie Devine, Jamie Donley, Archie Gray, Tyrese Hall, James Maddison, Pape Matar Sarr, Oliver Skipp

Attackers: Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski, Will Lankshear, Mikey Moore, Richarlison, Dane Scarlett, Manor Solomon, Son Heung-min, Alejo Veliz, Timo Werner

Six Tottenham players on notice as Ange Postecoglou eyes transfer windfall after latest exit

Description

The next few weeks could see quite a bit of transfer movement take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the 2024/25 season edges ever closer. Spurs are now only four weeks away from their first game of the new Premier League campaign, with their trip to Leicester City in the calendar for Monday, August 19.

Luring Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall to the club this summer and also re-signing Timo Werner on a season-long loan, Tottenham still have more to do in regards to incomings as they bid to hand Ange Postecoglou a squad that can compete on four fronts. Outgoings will also be vital when it comes to the club's summer transfer activity as a handful of players desperately need moves away.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's time in N17 will soon come to an end as he closes in on a transfer to French side Marseille. The Dane will move to the south of France on loan with an obligation to buy that football.london understands could eventually be worth €20million (£16.8million).

So who else could follow Hojbjerg out of the exit door in the weeks ahead? football.london takes a look below.

Sergio Reguilon

Sergio Reguilon has been training with the first-team players at Hotspur Way since his return from his loan spell at Brentford. However, he failed to make Postecoglou's squad for the team's first two friendlies of the summer against Hearts and QPR and now also the travelling party for the pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea.

It's clear to see that the Spaniard doesn't have a long-term future in north London and a permanent move away ideally needs to happen for both parties before the end of August. The player shouldn't be short on options after an impressive spell with Brentford in the second half of last campaign.

Bryan Gil

Bryan Gil is also in the same boat as Reguilon at present as he has trained with the first team but failed to make the matchday squad for both friendlies and also the pre-season tour squad. The youngster has so many options ahead of him in the pecking order at Tottenham at present and he just isn't going to get the regular game time he needs at this stage of his career.

After such a stop-start time of it ever since his move to Tottenham three years ago, the winger needs to move on permanently for the sake of his career. There will undoubtedly be interest from the player's homeland of Spain.

Giovani Lo Celso

Giovani Lo Celso looks a certainty to depart Tottenham this summer in his quest to play more regularly. Tipped to leave 12 months ago but remaining part of Postecoglou's plans, the Argentine had an extremely bit-part role to play and was often ignored despite the struggles of others in his position.

Showcasing on international duty just how a good a player he is, the midfielder should have plenty of offers on the table to choose from ahead of the new season. Lo Celso has been linked with a move to Aston Villa in a deal that would see Jacob Ramsey head in the opposite direction.

Emerson Royal

AC Milan are keen on signing Emerson Royal but they have yet to submit an acceptable offer to Tottenham. Milan formally offered just £8.4million (€10million) for the Brazilian, having already had that number turned down in a verbal offer. Spurs want at least £16.8million (€20million) for their right-back.

The player's time at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will only come to an end when AC Milan, or another club for that matter, put in a bid that Daniel Levy and Spurs are happy with.

Djed Spence

The next few weeks will give an idea of where exactly Djed Spence stands in Postecoglou's Tottenham plans. Previously looking guaranteed to move on after spending the past 18 months away from the club on loan, the right-back has featured in Spurs' first two friendlies of the summer and caught the eye in the process.

Tottenham will need cover at right-back if Emerson is to head elsewhere, although new signing Gray can operate in the role after playing there for Leeds United. If Spence isn't to be in Postecoglou's thinking for the new season, a move away will likely come to fruition.

The player has a big opportunity on the club's summer tour of Japan and South Korea to force his way into the reckoning if he continues to wow in a Spurs shirt.

Richarlison

Question marks surround Richarlison at present amid interest from Saudi Arabia ahead of the new season. The player proved between December and February just how big a role he can play for Spurs as the goals flowed but injuries have really disrupted his time at the club since his big-money switch from Everton.

If Tottenham are to receive an offer around the £60million mark that they shelled out two years then the club could have a big decision to make over the Brazil ace. Regardless of whether Richarlison stays or goes, Spurs must bring in a proven goalscorer after failing to replace Harry Kane last summer.
