Uruguay players, including Tottenham star Rodrigo Bentancur, risk receiving a ban for engaging in violent scenes with Colombia supporters at the Copa America.

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez was captured jumping into the stands alongside several of his international teammates to confront spectators following Uruguay’s 1-0 semi-final defeat in North Carolina, USA.

Jose Gimenez accused some opposing supporters of acting threatening towards the families of Uruguay’s players, stating: “They stormed all our families, a section of Colombia fans. This is a disaster. Our family is in danger."

Footage appeared to show Bentancur throwing a bottle into the melee while Nunez has been accused of engaging in physical exchanges with spectators. The Press Association says those involved in the clash could face punishment and potential bans.

Football federation CONMEBOL has released a statement condemning the scenes. It read: "Our work is based on the conviction that soccer connects and unites us through its positive values.

"There is no place for intolerance and violence on and off the field. We invite everyone in the remaining days to pour all of their passion into cheering on their national teams and having an unforgettable party."

Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez alleged that spectators were attacking family members, telling reporters: "Obviously if someone is attacking your family you want to go and defend them but that doesn't justify the image that it created.

"We had to protect our families that were there. What I could see there was a lot of family, a lot of children of my team-mates who were trapped and things were falling on them and you felt helpless."

Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham have been handed a scare ahead of the new season after Rodrigo Bentancur was forced off through injury in Uruguay's Copa America semi-final defeat to Colombia. Named in Marcelo Bielsa's starting XI for the first time in the tournament, the Spurs midfielder would only be on the pitch for 34 minutes following a collision with teammate Mathias Olivera.

As Colombia player Jhon Arias ran through the middle of the pitch with the ball on 24 minutes, both Bentancur and Olivera slid in to win possession but unfortunately collided with each other. Bentancur took the brunt of the impact as he appeared to receive a blow to his right leg and subsequently remained on the ground.

Finally getting back to his feet to play on but in some discomfort, the Spurs ace did manage to carry on for a further ten minutes before looking towards Bielsa and indicating that he had to come off. Bentancur was consoled by a number of his teammates as he exited the field and could be seen on the bench in tears once he took his spot in the dugout.

Four minutes after Bentancur's exit from the field of play, Jefferson Lerma scored the only goal of the game for Colombia as they held on to win with ten men despite Daniel Munoz seeing red in first-half stoppage time. The defeat in Charlotte means that Bentancur misses out on a Copa America final clash against Tottenham teammates Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso after Argentina beat Canada in the other semi-final tie.

Uruguay, however, do face one more game in the tournament as they now come up against Canada in a third-place play-off match on Saturday evening in the United States.

Postecoglou and all at Tottenham will be hoping for positive news regarding the injury Bentancur sustained on Wednesday evening as they prepare for the 2024/25 campaign. The vast majority of the Tottenham squad are now back at Hotspur Way for pre-season training, with their first summer friendly coming next Wednesday as they travel to Edinburgh to take on Hearts.

For Bentancur, he will be hoping for some luck on the injury front for once after such a frustrating time over the past two seasons. Facing a long spell on the sidelines after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in a defeat against Leicester City in February 2023, he then suffered an ankle issue last November in what was his fourth game back since returning from his ACL injury.

Bentancur made a swift recovery and returned to the pitch one month later, going on to feature in Tottenham's remaining 21 games of the 2023/24 campaign. Unable to rediscover his previous form following his comeback, the 2024/25 season was always viewed by many as the year when Tottenham would see the 27-year-old at his best once again.

Tottenham ace has rare opportunity to change Ange Postecoglou's transfer stance this summer

Ashley Phillips will have the opportunity to get a full Tottenham pre-season under his belt this summer. Making the move to N17 from Blackburn Rovers just ahead of the 2023/24 campaign, the centre-back barely had time to train under Ange Postecoglou before Spurs got their campaign underway at Brentford.

At a time when the 19-year-old would have liked to get a full pre-season in the tank and feature in Spurs' summer friendlies, Phillips only made the matchday squad once and he was an unused substitute on that occasion as the team lost against Barcelona. Making his return to Hotspur Way last Saturday with the vast majority of the squad for the first day of summer training, the Salford-born player looks set to play a prominent role in the opening weeks of pre-season.

As things stand, the highly-rated player is Tottenham's only fully-fit centre-back heading into their first friendly against Hearts next Wednesday. Micky van de Ven's involvement in the semi-finals of Euro 2024 means that it will still be some time before he returns to the club's Enfield base and the same goes for Cristian Romero as Argentina are now in the final of the Copa America.

Radu Dragusin's involvement at Euro 2024 came to an end just over a week ago and it is not clear yet as to when exactly he is due back with the team heading off to Japan and South Korea later this month. That means Phillips is the only first-team centre-back at present and he looks a certainty to start in the Hearts and QPR friendlies.

Academy ace Alfie Dorrington unfortunately looks set to miss out as he is currently recovering from hamstring surgery and he may not be back in training until potentially August or September, but that is dependent on how cautious the club are with him. Due to the current lack of available centre-backs, Emerson Royal and Ben Davies, as they did do last season, could once again be set to fill in at the heart of defence.

Phillips really does have a golden chance to make a big impression on Postecoglou and he will be determined to do exactly that as he aims to become a Spurs regular in the years ahead. To date, the 2023 summer signing has yet to play in a competitive game for Tottenham's first team.

Phillips was included on the Spurs bench seven times in the first part of last season but Postecoglou elected against handing him his senior bow despite having to do without Romero through suspension and Van de Ven for a period of time due to injury. Heading to Plymouth in January and featuring regularly, the defender, who claimed the Young player of the Season award during his short time at Home Park, did finally appear for Spurs' first team in a post-season friendly against Newcastle in May as he was introduced off the bench by the head coach.

Phillips will be hoping that his outing at the famous MCG is his first of many appearances in a Tottenham shirt in 2024, with the player now looking set to feature against Hearts and QPR over the next 10 days. What the ex-Blackburn Rovers man could possibly do this summer is change Postecoglou's thinking when it comes to adding a new centre-back to the ranks. Speaking back in March, the Australian did admit that he wants to sign a new centre-back for the 2024/25 campaign.

"If you’re saying 'is it an area we can strengthen?', yes it’s an area we will probably look at," he explained. "With all these things it’s about trying to strengthen the group as much as anything else. If you think about when I first arrived, we had maybe six or seven centre-backs at the club. So it’s not just numbers. It's more about the ability of those players to play the football we want and to fit in to what we're trying to build here.

"I think it is an area of the park we will look to strengthen, but I think we’ll look to strengthen all areas of the park come the end of the season. That’s planning that’s already underway, and other people are in charge of it at the moment."

Tottenham's need for a fourth centre-back is clear to see, especially with the team facing a bumper schedule next term as a result of their qualification for the Europa League. Romero and Van de Ven have tended to be Postecoglou's first-choice pairing at the back but Dragusin and the fourth centre-back option, whether that be Phillips or a new signing, will have plenty of opportunities for game time in the months ahead.

A loan move may be more beneficial to Phillips' development looking at the situation right now but Postecoglou could possibly decide that the England Under-19 international is the player who he wants as his fourth centre-back option heading into the new term if he make a big impression in pre-season. That will all become clear in the weeks ahead as Postecoglou and Tottenham fans look set to get a real look at what Phillips can do in a Spurs shirt.

Tottenham star back in training despite £8.5m transfer hope

Djed Spence's future remains uncertain despite links of a move away from Tottenham Hotspur.

Spence spent last season on loan away from Spurs with the first half of the campaign within Leeds United. The right-back returned to North London in January and was loaned out to Italian club Genoa.

The 23-year-old made 16 appearances for Genoa across the second half of last season. Now Spence is being linked with a move away from Tottenham once again, this time on a permanent deal.

A report from BBC Sport has claimed that Spence is now unlikely to complete a permanent move to Genoa. This, the article states, is because Spurs' asking price for Spence is too much for the Serie A club to pay.

It has been claimed that Spurs would demand £8.5 million to let Spence leave the club on a permanent deal. However, Genoa are seemingly not able to meet the asking price and will not be able to sign Spence as a result.

The report went further by stating that Spence is now taking part in Tottenham's pre-season training programme under manager Ange Postecoglou.

It remains to be seen, though, if Spence will be part of Spurs' squad for next season or if an agreement will be reached with another club to organise his transfer away from North London.

Spence was signed by Spurs from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2022 but has since made just six appearances for the first team since his move from Teesside.

Postecoglou is expected to make a decision regarding Spence's future over the course of pre-season, but for now, the right-back looks set to continue training with Spurs for the foreseeable future.

Luka Vuskovic's new loan move and what it means ahead of joining Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham team

Luka Vuskovic's new loan move and what it means ahead of joining Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham team - Football.London
Description

Luka Vuskovic will be playing his football in Belgium next season after securing a loan move to K.V.C. Westerlo. The talented centre-back joins on a season-long loan deal from Hajduk Split and he will wear the No.44 shirt for his new club.

Following a very successful loan spell with Radomiak Radom in the second half of last season, another loan deal was always going to be on the cards for the 17-year-old this summer ahead of finally linking up with Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham team in 2025. Vuskovic signed a long-term contract until 2030 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last September after Spurs agreed on a £12million deal with Hajduk Split.

Due to FIFA rules, the centre-back will have to wait until he can arrive in England in 2025 when he is 18 years old. Before then, it's about the player getting as much first-team football under his belt and building on what was an excellent spell with Polish side Radomiak Radom.

As reported by Polish media outlet Weszlo back in May, Slawomir Stempniewski, co-owner of Radomiak Radom, claimed more than once that his club were talking to Tottenham about the possibility of sealing another loan move for the centre-back. However, it always appeared that another deal for the Croat would be hard to complete as it would not be beneficial for Spurs in the long run.

In order for the defender to be able to play in the UK, GBE (Governing Body Endorsement) points are vital as a points-based system is in place. The threshold is 15 points, with the Polish Ekstraklasa seen as one of the least-valued leagues.

In order to bump up the player's points, which are believed to currently stand at four following his time with Radomiak Radom, Weszlo reported that a move to either Belgium or the Netherlands would help Vuskovic and Tottenham out when it comes to obtaining the necessary points as they are amongst the most-valued leagues. So it comes as no surprise to see Vuskovic make the move to Westerlo in Belgium for the 2024/25 season.

Regular playing time should certainly be there for the starlet as Westerlo look to build on finishing 11th out of 16 teams in the Jupiler Pro League last term. It won't actually be too long until Vuskovic and De Kemphanen are in league action for the first time in 2024/25 as they host Cercle Brugge in their league opener on Sunday, July 28.

A key figure at the back for Radomiak Radom last season as Vuskovic excelled defensively and also contributed with three goals in 14 games, his latest loan move should stand him in good stead ahead of eventually linking up with Tottenham on a permanent basis. After all, Westerlo has "previously proven to be an outstanding development platform for young talents".

"We are delighted to welcome a player with such potential," Westerlo managing director Wim Van Hove told the club's official website. "With Vuskovic’s arrival, we emphasize our club’s excellent functioning, which has previously proven to be an outstanding development platform for young talents.

"Together with our entire entourage and staff, we look forward to playing an important role in the further growth of his already promising career."

Simon Davies makes Tottenham decision after receiving Craig Bellamy Wales offer

Simon Davies Tottenham decision made after receiving Craig Bellamy Wales offer - Football.London
Description

Tottenham academy director Simon Davies has turned down an offer to become an assistant coach to Craig Bellamy for Wales, football.london understands. On Tuesday, Bellamy was confirmed as the new head coach of the Welsh national team on a contract until 2028, replacing Rob Page in the hotseat.

Now looking to build his backroom team ahead of his first game in charge of his country against Turkey on Friday, September 6, Bellamy had looked to lure Davies from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It perhaps comes as no surprise to see the 44-year-old make a move for former Wales international Davies as the pair do know each other from their time working together at Anderlecht in 2019.

However, Davies has elected to remain in north London as academy director. Firstly joining the Lilywhites in the summer of 2022 as head of methodology, last June it was confirmed that he would become the club's academy director.

A very exiting time at the football club at present with players such as Mikey Moore, Jamie Donley and Tyrese Hall coming through the system to catch Ange Postecoglou's eye, Davies will be hoping that a number of Tottenham's academy players can make the step up to the first team in the not too distant future. Speaking on the club's 'Off The Shelf' podcast back in February, the academy director opened up on his role, the talent currently in the academy and his relationship with Postecoglou.

"With Ange we spoke this morning. We have roughly a biweekly meeting but we speak in between ad hoc," explained the former Manchester United player. "Obviously he is busy with all the first-team stuff going on but he always gives you that time. That's what I mean by the class of the man and the impact he's had around the place.

"It has to be a close relationship but my job as well is I've got to make sure the players are good enough and they are around it right now. It is tough and the reality is our young players have got to be better than what's in the first team. It's the same around the country. There's no God-given right to get in our first team, it's a tough point to achieve in your career but the manager I know for sure will give opportunities as and when the time is right.

"You talk about the lads getting around the bench, part of that is because they have merited it and part of that is because of the injuries. There's always that factor there, but they've got to do it consistently. It doesn't just come because you've done it for a month, you have to do it consistently just for the next 20 odd years. That's the level.

Sign up to our Tottenham WhatsApp service and get all the latest breaking news and in-depth stories from football.london's dedicated Tottenham writers direct to your phone by clicking this link.

"The talent will take them where it's going to take them but we have, in my opinion, got some top talent in the academy coming through. I'll always want more of it and I'll always be asking the question of just making it an even tougher environment for our young players coming through and get even more quality in there from outside because we're doing a good job in the rules and parameters in which we work within as every Premier League academy does. We are in the ballpark, we are in the right ballpark but I'll keep pushing."

Harry Kane net worth as savvy move banks former Tottenham star millions - Football.London
Description

England's star striker Harry Kane isn't just making a fortune from his lucrative contract with Bayern Munich.

The Three Lions' captain is set to lead his team into the Euro 2024 semi-final on Wednesday, following a season that saw him make a profitable move from Tottenham Hotspur to the Bundesliga giants. It's believed that Kane is pocketing around £400,000 per week at Bayern, which adds up to at least £86.4million over his four-year contract.

However, it's not just football that's filling Kane's coffers. A significant portion of his wealth reportedly comes from a property business he runs with his parents and brother Charlie, who also acts as his agent.

The property firm, named 'Edward James Investments', is estimated to be worth a staggering £13.1 million. Kane's financial boost over the past year has propelled him to the 35th spot on The Sunday Times Rich List in the '40 under 40' category.

According to the list, Kane's net worth now stands at £76 million, marking a substantial increase of £25m from his reported value of £51m in 2023, reports the Mirror. The former Spurs sharpshooter may be one of the most shrewd forwards on the pitch, but it seems he applies the same ruthless business sense to his side ventures. Another enterprise Kane is involved in is HK28.

HK28 is described on LinkedIn as dealing in "specialism across sport, business, entertainment and charity sectors' where 'the team work purposefully with global brands, innovators and charitable organisations to harness Harry's profile and platforms to inspire, educate and empower others". HK28 is believed to have assets of £10.2m which is also up £1.2m over the past year.

The England captain, his wife Katie Goodland and their four young children moved into a villa with a spa in the wealthy Munich suburb of Baierbrunn when he joined Bayern but as well as his love for property, the striker also has his hand in several other businesses. He has also become a primary investor in Reflo, an eco-friendly English brand that produces performance wear made from recycled waste.

The company is also said to be committed to planting one million trees every year in countries including Madagascar and Mozambique. In another facet to Kane's benevolent side, he has also set up the Harry Kane Foundation to support children's mental health.

As reported by City AM back in November 2022, Kane also invested an 'undisclosed sum of cash' in low-calorie doughnut company Urban Legend. Founded in 2021 by former Graze CEO Anthony Fletcher, Urban Legend's products are steam baked rather than deep fried and are claimed to contain 50% less fat and 30% less sugar than rivals, as reported by the The Grocer.

Kane expressed his enthusiasm for joining the team, stating that the company "connects with my keen interest to encourage others to look after their health and for retailers to have healthier options more widely available." As reported by Sport Business in September 2023, Kane's impressive roster of global sponsors also includes Fortnite, Topps, Cadbury, Amazon and Toca Social, not forgetting his boot deal with Skechers.

Unusual new Tottenham dynamic behind the scenes that is set to be tested this season

Unusual new Tottenham dynamic behind the scenes that is set to be tested this season - Football.London
Description

Pre-season is now in full swing under Tottenham head coach Ange Postecoglou as the Australian embarks on his second summer in charge.

The 58-year-old became the first manager at Spurs in half a decade to complete a full season in charge of the club when the team ended the Premier League campaign in fifth place in May. Now the Australian must plot the way forward in his second time around to realise his expectations of Tottenham competing with those at the top of the table next season.

Postecoglou has reshuffled his coaching staff with a promotion for Matt Wells to replace Chris Davies, following his switch to become Birmingham City's head coach, and the arrival of two new coaches in Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo to create a bigger coaching staff than last season, adding to Ryan Mason, Mile Jedinak and goalkeeping coach Rob Burch.

The arrival of former Central Coast Mariners and Hibernian manager Montgomery and his assistant Raimundo within the coaching set-up creates an unusual dynamic within the staff under both Postecoglou and the younger Wells.

Our Tottenham correspondents Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest discussed that dynamic and its potential effects in the latest episode of their podcast Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham, with the pair having passed the milestone of 150 episodes of the show. The duo also spoke about what has happened so far in pre-season, the players that are back, the new faces in Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, the youngsters joining in and what all of their futures hold as well as the potential arrivals in the weeks ahead.
