Gary Lineker explains why Tottenham legend Harry Kane 'won't be worried' amid England concerns - Football.London
Description

Gary Lineker has explained why Harry Kane will not have any concerns after the striker's performance for England against Serbia.

Sunday night saw the Three Lions open their Euro 2024 campaign with a 1-0 victory over Serbia. Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham scored the only goal of the game in the first half of the contest in Germany.

Kane endured a quiet evening in front of goal, despite captaining England to victory. The former Tottenham Hotspur striker had just one effort on goal across the entire game and had just two touches in the first half in Gelsenkirchen.

The absence of Kane's involvement in the game has led to concern about England's chances of winning the tournament should that trend continue.

However, Lineker says he is not worried and believes that the former Spurs captain should have a similar mindset.

"Harry Kane isn't necessarily sacrificing himself for the team in terms of the fact he can still get in the box and score goals. He won't be worried at all," Lineker told BBC Sport.

"He is playing his part, he's not dropping deep like we've seen from him in the past, he's keeping Serbia deep to make that space for the creative players behind him. He won't care about general touches, just those he can make to put the ball in the back of the net."

Kane and Co. will now rest up ahead of their second group-stage fixture of Euro 2024. England will face Denmark on Thursday evening in Frankfurt, while the other Group C match will see Serbia face Slovenia on the same day.

There's little doubt that England boss Gareth Southgate will continue with Kane leading the forward line for the remainder of the tournament. The Three Lions also have Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and Brentford's Ivan Toney in the squad ready to be called upon when needed.

Kieran Trippier reveals the one thing Diego Simeone said he had to improve after Tottenham exit

Kieran Trippier reveals the one thing Diego Simeone said he had to improve after Tottenham exit - Football.London
Description

Kieran Trippier says that Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone told him that he needed to improve his defending after his final season at Tottenham.

Trippier, currently playing for England at Euro 2024, left Tottenham for a new chapter in Madrid in the summer of 2019 after Mauricio Pochettino's side had reached the Champions League final in the city, losing to Liverpool. In a new podcast interview with Gary Neville, the full-back spoke about his final difficult year at Spurs and his exit from the club.

"[I needed] a change. I had a talk with Pochettino and Daniel Levy at the time and I was not getting the answers I wanted, in the sense of whether I’m a part of the plans or not. But that’s fine, players and managers come and go, and it is about trying to find that next step," said Trippier on The Overlap, in association with Sky Bet.

"Atlético Madrid came in and I just said to the manager straight away that I wanted to sign for them. I was then in Madrid straight away and I have never looked back since, it was an unbelievable journey."

Trippier admitted that Simeone soon told him bluntly what he needed to fix about his game and it would certainly work as the right-back played his part in Atletico winning the La Liga title in his first season.

"When I went to Atlético Madrid people were saying it was the wrong move for me, saying I wouldn’t make it past the halfway line. Diego Simeone encouraged me to go forward as much as I could," he said. "He got me into some positions where I thought it was so simple.

"When I first went there, Simeone said, “I need to improve your defending” - as blunt as that. I was a bit suspect [defending] in my last year at Tottenham, getting caught out, playing people on side and it’s all about fine margins. I just wanted the season to end [at Tottenham], I felt like I was getting suffocated because I wasn’t performing.

"Simeone worked with me for so many hours, just me and him on the training pitch after training, showing me clips of other players. With Simeone, if you break his trust that is it, you’re done. It is about being on time, respect for everybody else and on the pitch, you have to run. If you do not run for him, it doesn’t matter how much you are paid, you are gone. It is there for everyone to see, you have to run for him.

"He always used to put me up against players like Thomas Lemar or [Yannick] Carrasco, different types of wingers where Carrasco is someone who will chop you and Lemar is one of those who will just run in behind you. He was very clever in the players he would put me up against. I look back on it now and I think he did it on purpose to see how I would cope. He also used to work me on positioning, when to go forward, when not to go forward. He was intelligent, and I learned so much from him."

Trippier also spoke about his introduction to life at Tottenham after signing for Burnley in 2015 and the training shock he was in for under Pochettino and his assistant manager Jesus Perez.

“When I was a Burnley, I probably weighed at around 76/77kg and now I'm about 70/71kg. Obviously when I was at Burnley if you look at the nutrition and the resources we had, it was nothing compared to what I had a Tottenham and I was in for a big shock. When I was at Burnley, I wasn’t professional, shall we say," he said.

"When I went to Tottenham, you walk in and you see Hugo Lloris, Harry Kane top pros. It probably took me the first week where I thought, this is going to be tough. Then I was in the altitude chamber for a good five or six months. Jesus Perez put us in there after training.

"The training was relentless as it is, but I was in there after every training session for around 35-40 minutes. It was about fat-burning exercises, we would be on the treadmill, then the rower – it was me, Toby [Alderweireld], Sonny [Heung-min] was in there a couple of times, Kevin Wimmer – we all signed during the same window and were all in for a shock. It was relentless and tough but after six months you get used to it."

Redknapp makes Postecoglou prediction after 'very average' Spurs season and names biggest issue

Redknapp makes Postecoglou prediction after 'very average' Spurs season and names biggest issue - Football.London
Description

Harry Redknapp believes Ange Postecoglou's first season at Tottenham was "very average" but has predicted that any friction with the club's fans will soon be forgotten.

The Australian lost Harry Kane to Bayern Munich on the eve of his first season at the club but ended up finishing fifth in the Premier League, a higher finish than Tottenham managed in the campaign before his arrival with more points in the bag, more goals scored, fewer conceded and a new more attacking style of football.

However, a late stumble amidst a tough run-in ensured Spurs missed out on the top four by two points and Redknapp believes with that, coupled with early exits in the domestic cups, it was a mediocre campaign.

"I like Ange Postecoglou very much. I like him an awful lot. But what do I make of the season? Very average, it was a very average season – going out early in both cups, not finishing in the top four with that squad. I wouldn't say it was a fantastic season," he said while promoting fantasy football game Sorare.

"At the beginning of the season I really couldn't see Spurs being out of the top four, I thought that the team, the players, would make top four for sure this year and maybe even win a cup but Tottenham went out early in both domestic competitions. I couldn't say it was a great season and I'd be lying if I said it was."

There was some friction between Postecoglou and the Spurs fans late in the season after he admitted he could not understand them wanting their team to lose their match against Manchester City to ensure Arsenal did not get an advantage in the Premier League title race. Redknapp predicted that any friction will soon be forgotten.

"Any friction between Ange and the fans will be quickly forgotten. It's like everything, when you're winning everything's great, when you lose a few games…bang! The game has gone that way now as a manager, you're either fantastic or you're useless, there's no middle ground," he said.

"I think it was Graham Taylor who said: 'Your manager's never as good as you think he is, or as bad as you think he is, he's usually somewhere in between.' And that's probably the case with Ange. We can't praise the performance and the quality of the football after the first 10 games only to turn on the manager and the team when they suddenly have a bad run.

"You've got to be patient, Tottenham is a club, with that squad, where I'd be disappointed if they didn't make top four at least. I certainly thought they'd finish above Villa this year.

"The top three were different class this year, and Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool will be there again next season. Certainly I think Arsenal will be pushing Man City again next year for the title. But I still see Tottenham making top four. Chelsea are a way off, they've still got a lot of work to do, I don’t see them being a threat for the title, and I can well see them not making top four again. Manchester United as well have a lot of work to do. Spurs have got a big chance next year to make the top four."

Redknapp believes that Tottenham's biggest challenge this summer will be finding a striker to fill the gap left by Kane's departure to Germany.

"Finding a striker to buy is the biggest problem for Spurs. Who do they get?" he said. "They’re in the Europa League next year and they’ll have a chance in that, so maybe it's time they will get a trophy at Tottenham. The League Cup or the FA Cup would be a good option as well."

Ryan Sessegnon attracting Premier League and Bundesliga interest after Tottenham release

Ryan Sessegnon attracting Premier League and Bundesliga interest after Tottenham release - Football.London
Description

Ryan Sessegnon has attracted plenty of interest from clubs in the Premier League and the Bundesliga since being released by Tottenham, football.london understands.

Tottenham chose not to take up the option to extend the 24-year-old's contract by a further year which meant he departed this summer as a free agent. Both parties are now looking towards a fresh start half a decade after the north London club spent £25million, plus Josh Onomah heading in the opposite direction, to bring him across the capital from Fulham.

Sessegnon was one of the most exciting teenagers in world football at that point. However, hamstring injuries in both legs hampered his development over the ensuring seasons meant he only ended up starting 26 Premier League matches for Tottenham over those five years.

Last season he made only one appearance for the club under Ange Postecoglou, coming off the bench for a handful of minutes at the end of the FA Cup win against Burnley in January this year after surgery to fix his hamstring left was believed to be successful in lessening the chances of further problems.

However, such was his luck in recent seasons, Sessegnon would break down in an U21s match with a hamstring problem in his other leg, which required similar surgery.

Spurs made the decision to release him at the end of his contract this month and now the former England U21 international is on the road back with the hope that both of his surgeries will reduce the chances of further hamstring issues significantly in either leg. He is currently taking part in a strength and conditioning fitness camp in Portugal, preparing himself for the season ahead and the next chapter in his career.

football.london understands that a number of clubs in both the Premier League and Bundesliga - where Sessegnon spent a successful loan season at Hoffenheim three years ago - are interested in taking him on as a free agent this summer. The player, who became a father for the first time last year, is believed to prefer to remain in England.

"Spurs. Thank you," he wrote in his farewell post last week to the north London club on social media. "I would like to thank everyone associated with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

"I joined at 19 and have met some very special people along the way that have supported and guided me. From my teammates, to the backroom staff and to my coaches - thank you. I've got memories and friends for life.

"From making my debut to scoring in the Champions League. I'll always cherish these moments. Unfortunately, things didn't work out the way I or the club wanted during my time here. It broke my heart that I couldn't play in front of you a lot more. I want to wish you all the best for the future. Thank you, Sess."

Joe Rodon Tottenham transfer situation as Premier League clubs eye move after Leeds United loan

Joe Rodon Tottenham transfer situation as Premier League clubs eye move after Leeds United loan - Football.London
Description

Ipswich, Leicester and Southampton are among the Premier League clubs that have shown an interest in signing Tottenham defender Joe Rodon this summer, football.london understands.

The 26-year-old Wales international is a man in demand after an eye-catching season at Leeds United on loan in a campaign that brought 90 points in the Championship for Daniel Farke's side but a play-off final defeat at the hands of Southampton at Wembley last month.

Rodon is not in Ange Postecoglou's plans at Spurs but was one of the standout centre-backs in the Championship though, playing 50 times for Leeds and helping them keep a long run of clean sheets at the turn of the year as they roared up the table, only to fall away towards the very end.

Now football.london understands that all three of the sides that pipped Leeds to promotion to the Premier League are among those keen on ensuring the Welsh centre-back gets his chance to return to the English top flight.

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna has previously shown a strong interest in Rodon last summer and that is set to be rekindled this time around. Championship champions Leicester were keen on the defender as a potential defensive recruit before the departure of boss Enzo Maresca to Chelsea.

With the Foxes' recruitment team liking Rodon, that interest could be maintained should Graham Potter, his former Swansea boss, get the job as one of the favourites to take over from Maresca. Another of Rodon's former managers, Steve Cooper, was also linked with the job.

The third promoted side and Leeds' conquerors in the play-off final, Southampton, are also believed to have signalled their interest in the player they came up against twice last month.

The trio are believed to be among a string of further Premier League clubs considering a summer move for the defender and that is why Tottenham chose to take up the final year option last month in the contract that he signed when he joined the club in 2020 to ensure he is tied to the north London outfit until 2025.

Leeds remain in the mix and would love to bring Rodon back to Yorkshire for another season in the Championship. The player enjoyed his time with the club and had they earned promotion then Farke's side would likely have been the favourites to agree a deal with Spurs. However, with the plentiful Premier League interest in Rodon and the financial impact of missing out on promotion, Leeds are not in the strong position they would have been to seal a deal.

Rodon will join a defensive exodus from Tottenham that already contains the departed Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga and Ryan Sessegnon and is set to include Djed Spence, Sergio Reguilon and potentially Emerson Royal, who is attracting interest from AC Milan, in the weeks ahead.

Tottenham hero Jermaine Jenas had one big fear while hosting World Cup draw - Football.London
Description

Jermaine Jenas has shared that he was personally approached by FIFA to take on the role of 'Draw Conductor' for the 2022 World Cup draw.

Since hanging up his boots in 2013, the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has transitioned seamlessly into broadcasting, becoming a familiar face on BBC's Match of the Day and securing a spot as a permanent host on The One Show.

In an exclusive chat with Mirror Sport, Jenas, now 41, reflected on the prestigious presenting gig, saying: "If somebody asked me to do something and my initial gut is like, oh my God, maybe don't do it, I'm going to do it. That's how I am, I'm just like, that's the feeling I'm looking for. Go and do it. FIFA asked me to do it."

He continued, expressing the confidence FIFA had in him: "And, you know, they believed in me. They believed I could do the job, so I was like all right, let's just go out there and do it." Despite his nerves about potentially making a mistake at the event in Qatar, Jenas managed to pull off the role without a hitch.

"And then obviously, once I'm there, I know, like, everybody's watching and thinking and waiting for me to mess up, basically, which never happened, " he concluded. "So it was another step in the right direction in my life as a result."

The ex-England midfielder reflected on the expectations weighed on the Three Lions squad as they compete in the Euros, assuring fans that the pressure to bring home an international trophy after over 50 years doesn't solely rest on their shoulder - but also on Gareth Southgate's.

He said: "I think in terms of being kind of like win or bust tournament football is the same for everyone, but I think that question is probably better aimed at the manager than it is the players."

Besides, Jenas believes in the potential of the team, optimistically saying, "The players will go on and I think they're going to achieve something special at some point. I think the manager will have the decisions make on the end of this tournament as to what he does if they don't win it yet."

Tottenham Hotspur on lookout for new partner after end of £10m deal

Tottenham Hotspur on lookout for new partner after end of £10m deal - Football.London
Description

Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for a new sleeve sponsor after its partnership with Cinch came to an end.

The online car-selling platform had been Spurs’ primary sleeve partner since 2021, the three-year deal having a value understood to north of £10m per year to the North London club.

According to SportBusiness, Cinch has opted to exercise an early exit option in its five-year deal with Spurs as the business pulls back from some of its sponsorship commitments, having also opted to exit the title sponsorship that they held with the Scottish Premiership Football League (SPFL) before the five-year deal had run its course. The SPFL last week struck a replacement deal with bookmakers William Hill.

When Spurs revealed their new home kit for the 2024/25 season earlier this month there was no branding for Cinch on the sleeves. Turkish on-demand delivery company Getir will also be absent from trainingwear after their deal with the club came to an end at the end of last season.

Sky News reported last month that Getir’s plans to exit the UK were confirmed, with the report also claiming that as much as £5m in outstanding payments were due to Spurs.

As part of the kit launch, a Spurs statement read: “For the 2024/25 season, all of our Kits will be sold without the sleeve partner logo, and our training range will be sold without the training wear partner logo. These are excluded from retail inventory for the coming season.”

The value of both front-of-shirt and sleeve partnerships has increased since the 2021 deal to partner with Cinch, with increased confidence coming out of the pandemic a factor to growing the value of the deals.

According to sponsorship analysis website The Sponsor, the fair market value of Spurs’ front-of-shirt sponsorship, currently held by AIA, was the fourth highest in the Premier League at £49.3m, a sum 23% higher than the current deal value of £40m.

Seven things for Tottenham supporters to watch out for at Euro 2024 and Copa America

Seven things for Tottenham supporters to watch out for at Euro 2024 and Copa America - Football.London
Description

The Euros kick off on Friday evening with the Copa America not far behind and both competitions will have plenty of interest for Tottenham and their fanbase.

Hosts Germany open proceedings in Munich with their first Group A game against Scotland, while England's tournament begins on Sunday evening with their encounter with Serbia in Gelsenkirchen. The Copa America gets up and running next week in the USA as reigning champions Argentina take on Canada in Atlanta on Thursday June 20 (1am on Friday morning for UK viewers).

Here are seven things that will be of particular interest for Tottenham supporters at the two tournaments over the next month.

Euro Spurs stars

Tottenham technically have five players selected in squads at Euro 2024. Micky van de Ven is taking his first steps at a major international tournament bow with the Netherlands and his pace might be utilised up against Kylian Mbappe and France in Group D. It is also a first tournament for Radu Dragusin with Romania and Guglielmo Vicario with Italy.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is more of an old hand at international competitions and the 28-year-old will be a key figure for Denmark once again. The fifth member of Tottenham's contingent will not be at the club for much longer. It is Ivan Perisic, who has recovered from his cruciate ligament injury with a month or so to spare, to take his place once again in the Croatia squad on the international stage. The 35-year-old will leave Spurs at the end of his contract with the club after it ends on June 30 and join Hajduk Split permanently.

All three of Croatia's group stage matches against Spain, Albania and Italy come before that date and two of the round of 16 matches that Croatia could be involved in take place before the end of June 30, although if they were to finish as best third place team in a tough Group B then that would be on July 2.

Silverware hopes

Tottenham's best chance of indirect silverware probably lies with Argentina and Cristian Romero, as well as Giovani Lo Celso who is expected to be named in the squad with him when it is cut down from the preliminary one by Lionel Scaloni in the coming days.

Romero became the club's second World Cup winner in successive tournaments, following on from former captain Hugo Lloris - who fell to defeat with France against Argentina in the last final.

If Lo Celso, who is expected to leave Spurs this summer, is named in the squad then it offers a chance for the midfielder to put the memories of missing out on the World Cup with a serious hamstring injury behind him. He and Romero both lifted the Copa America with Lionel Messi & Co in 2021 and will be hoping to retain the title in the coming month.

Rodrigo Bentancur and Uruguay pose a threat to that hope though with Marcelo Bielsa at the helm and they have been installed as the third favourites for the tournament, behind Argentina and Brazil, due to a squad that contains plenty of talent for their experienced coach to preside over.

Well-known transfer links

The Euros and Copa America always get in the way of a good transfer window. The speculation will persist but once the action begins those players coveted by clubs usually have to wait for any potential transfer to take place after their time is done in the competition.

In the England squad, Spurs have been linked with Chelsea's Conor Gallagher, Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze and Brentford striker Ivan Toney so all eyes will be on their performances in the weeks ahead in Germany.

Ukraine's Viktor Tsygankov and Georgiy Sudakov have both been linked to Tottenham, as has Nico Williams, who will be in action for Spain, although the Athletic Bilbao winger has publicly signalled his intention to remain at his club next season.

At the Copa America, Tottenham have taken a good look at Feyenoord forward Santiago Gimenez over the past year and the 23-year-old is part of the Mexico squad. Brazil and Barcelona's Raphinha has also been linked with Spurs in recent years.

Spurs will be linked with players galore at both tournaments in the weeks ahead and it will give the fans a chance to watch them in action.

The shop window

It's not just about incoming players at the two tournaments as Tottenham could well be hoping that some of their potential outgoing players shine at the Euros and Copa America.

There are two players in question, both midfielders, who are looking for regular football elsewhere next season and both have only a year left on their contracts and are players that Spurs will allow to leave for the right price.

Hojbjerg is often a high performer at tournaments and laid on three assists at the previous Euros in 2021. Another string of good performances from the Dane should keep his value high as well as the interest in his services despite his contract length.

At the Copa America, Spurs will be hoping for similar from Lo Celso, who has started Argentina's past three friendly matches so could get plenty of game time under Scaloni in the month ahead.

Hojbjerg and Lo Celso managed just 12 Premier League starts between them last season and will be looking for a move this summer after their tournament exploits.

New stars emerging

Tottenham will no doubt have scouts at both competitions as most clubs will and although Ange Postecoglou is right in saying in the past that there are very few unknown quantities in football any more, that doesn't stop someone emerging as a star during a tournament.

There are plenty of youngsters being tipped to make a name for themselves in the next month. At the Euros alone, there is Croatia's Martin Baturina, labelled the next Luka Modric, or Netherlands striker Brian Brobbey, while Belgium winger Johan Bakayoko looks to be a star in the making for PSV Eindhoven.

Bayer Leverkusen have a couple of talented youngsters at the tournament in Germany's Florian Wirtz and Netherlands' Jeremie Frimpong.

Just watch, some youngster will emerge at the tournament and Tottenham's name will end up being linked with them.

Pundit Postecoglou

You'll be hearing from Ange Postecoglou sooner than you think because he's been hired as a pundit for ITV to appear during their coverage of Euro 2024 after they saw off the BBC in a battle between the broadcasters to sign up the Spurs boss.

The Australian's appearances should make for good television if his press conferences are anything to go by. He's got experience of punditry, having done it in his homeland for a few months early in his career when between jobs after leaving the Australian international youth set-up.

Tottenham fans know what he's all about now but it should give the general football fan even more of an insight into his thoughts on the game and provide a couple of fun moments with ITV's Roy Keane, Graeme Souness, Ian Wright and Gary Neville in the process. There might be some little insights into life at Spurs as well from the 58-year-old.

Other Spurs connections

There will also be plenty of Tottenham connections from the past at the Euros in the month ahead, starting with that rather talented and prolific goalscorer wearing the captain's armband for England.

Harry Kane will be looking to take his country one step further than in the last Euros, but he will not be alone among the former Spurs players at the tournament or even in the England squad as right-backs Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker were both once Tottenham stars.

Their ex-team-mate Jan Vertonghen is still going strong at 37-years-old with 154 caps to his name for Belgium. There is also one of the game's most successful players in 38-year-old six-time Champions League winner Luka Modric, who used to turn out in midfield for Tottenham 12 years ago before all of that silverware. His Croatian team-mate Ivan Perisic will become a former Spurs player during the tournament if the team progresses.

There is also someone off the pitch as Ukraine's manager is 50-year-old Sergiy Rebrov, who played up front for Spurs 22 years ago.

Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham could face unavoidable delay before completing first summer transfer

Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham could face unavoidable delay before completing first summer transfer - Football.London
Description

Tottenham Hotspur could be forced to wait until next month before being able to complete their first summer transfer.

Ange Postecoglou's side will be looking ahead to next season in the Premier League and relish the chance of competing in the Europa League.

Spurs finished fifth in the top flight last term and will be hoping for an improved campaign when the season resumes in August.

Friday is the first day that Spurs and Premier League clubs are able to officially agree deals for new players. The summer transfer window is open and Tottenham are now able to add new additions to their squad ahead of the new campaign.

However, Spurs may have to wait before announcing any deals until next month. This is due to the financial regulations that the North London club may have to comply with ahead of next season.

The accounting year will officially end on June 30, which is also the same day that players' contracts will typically expire.

A day later (July 1) is when players who arrive at new clubs will see their contracts officially begin, especially for free agents which will be the case for new Chelsea signing Tosin Adarabioyo.

Financial Fair Play (FFP) and Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR) may force Spurs to delay the announcement of new signings until after June 30. This will depend on where Tottenham stand with their financial compliance with the regulations and, of course, if the club have any deals lined up ahead of next season.

It remains to be seen what areas of the squad Postecoglou will look to target this summer in the transfer market. The majority of recent rumours have been centred around the future of Cristian Romero, with the Spurs defender being linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent days.

When Tottenham's players will return to pre-season training at Hotspur Way

When Tottenham's players will return to pre-season training at Hotspur Way - Football.London
Description

Preparations for Tottenham's 2024/25 season are set to get underway next month at their Enfield-based training complex.

Spurs' last campaign only ended three weeks or so ago with the post-season friendly against Newcastle in Melbourne, but it will not be long before Ange Postecoglou and his coaching staff will be putting the team through their paces at Hotspur Way ahead of the coming season as the Australian plots a big year in N17, with the return of European football to boot.

Although exact dates have not been confirmed yet for their return, the first team players are expected to begin to start filtering back to the training ground for pre-season work from July 3 onwards, mostly depending on how late their international commitments kept them busy after the previous campaign ended.

The club's U21s and U18s normally return for their pre-season a little earlier, although the former were involved later in the season this time around with the Premier League 2 play-offs and final which they won, which could push back their return this time. A number will be involved in the early work with Postecoglou's squad as the Spurs boss takes a look at them ahead of the pre-season friendlies.

Tottenham's players at the Euros and Copa America - Micky van de Ven, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Radu Dragusin, Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso and Rodrigo Bentancur - will all return at later stages of pre-season, depending on how far they progress in those tournaments to ensure they get at least three weeks off afterwards.

Spurs have a series of pre-season friendlies lined up, which is expected to include at least one behind-closed doors game at Hotspur Way, as well as a trip to Hearts on July 17, then QPR on July 20 before the first team flies out to Japan and Korea a couple of days later for matches against Vissel Kobe in Tokyo (July 27) and a K-League All Stars team (July 31) and Bayern Munich (Aug 3) in Seoul.

The north London side then take on Bayern again on August 10 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Visit Malta Cup, which is set to mark the return of Harry Kane and Eric Dier to N17 for the first time since their departures to Munich.

The Premier League season then begins on the weekend of August 17 and the fixtures for the new campaign will be released next Tuesday morning (June 18) at 9am.
