Tottenham landed £23m Brazilian and former Real Madrid defender in January transfers

Ange Postecoglou could certainly use a last-minute miracle as the January transfer deadline day looms - and it wouldn't be the first time for Tottenham.

The club has a history of pulling off successful winter deals, and that's exactly the kind of magic they need right now as they sit 14th in the Premier League. And Spurs have already welcomed goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky and Austrian defender Kevin Danso (who is on loan from Lens) during this window.

Postecoglou is under immense pressure to turn Tottenham's fortunes around in the second half of this season, and the right January business could be key. With that in mind, football.london takes a look back at some of the club's best winter work from previous January transfer windows.

Jermain Defoe

Club legend Jermain Defoe didn't just come to Tottenham's rescue once, but twice, in January windows. He first left West Ham for £7million in February 2004, then repeated the move five years later when he left Portsmouth for more than double that fee.

Defoe's contribution was significant, scoring 143 goals in 363 appearances for Spurs, helping the club avoid relegation and secure a spot in the Champions League. It was during Defoe's first stint at the club that he lifted the 2008 League Cup, which remains their most recent major trophy.

Jonathan Woodgate

A key player in that same League Cup-winning team, Jonathan Woodgate, joined Tottenham in January 2008. Despite being a late addition, he justified Spurs' £8m investment by heading home the extra-time winner against Chelsea at Wembley and bagging the Man of the Match award.

Although his stint at Real Madrid didn't live up to expectations, Tottenham arguably saw the best of the eight-time England international. Injuries eventually led to his departure for Stoke in 2011, but not before he had given Spurs their money's worth.

Lucas Moura

Lucas Moura is perhaps Mauricio Pochettino's most astute January signing. The Brazilian brought a unique flair to Tottenham's attack that was hard to replicate at the time (and perhaps still today).

Despite interest from Manchester United, Spurs were quickest to secure his services for £25m when Moura decided to leave PSG in 2018. This was a significant outlay for a winter transfer at the time, but Lucas - who stayed until 2023 - provided Spurs with a much-needed spark and helped bring out the best in Harry Kane for several seasons.

His last-minute goal against Ajax in the 2019 Champions League semi-finals has become part of club folklore. And while they may have fallen short in the final against Liverpool, fans will always have Lucas to thank for those injury-time heroics.

Dele Alli

Midfield magician Dele Alli was signed by Spurs from MK Dons for £5m in February 2015. The playmaker - now on the books at Como - spent seven seasons with the Lilywhites, netting 67 goals in 269 appearances.

He was instrumental in Spurs' journey to the Champions League final in 2019 and the League Cup final two years later, bagging a slew of individual honours - including consecutive PFA Young Player of the Year awards. However, Alli's form dipped dramatically in his latter years at Tottenham, leading to his move to Everton in 2021.

Michael Dawson

Michael Dawson arrived at Spurs on January deadline day in 2005 from Nottingham Forest, alongside Andy Reid, for a fee of around £8m. And he established himself as one of the Premier League's most reliable defenders during his stint at White Hart Lane.

The central defender reached two League Cup finals, winning the first in 2008, before taking over the captain's armband and being crowned Spurs' Player of the Year in 2010. He departed for Hull City in 2014 after netting 10 goals in 324 appearances for Tottenham.

Maxime Esteve's incredible record as Tottenham 'make £20m offer' for 'exceptional' defender

Tottenham have already signed one centre-back during the January transfer window, but they are looking to add another to their ranks. And Maxime Esteve may be that player late on deadline day.

Spurs signed Kevin Danso from Lens on Sunday, following long-term injuries to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero. Radu Dragusin has since picked up an injury too, with the news coming out on deadline day that it was an ACL and that the Romanian would miss the rest of the season.

Van de Ven returned to the first team in the Europa League win over Elfsborg on Thursday, although he was not risked in the Premier League win over Brentford on Sunday. Cristian Romero is working his way back to full fitness, but a return date is not yet known.

Danso could be thrown in for his full debut in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool on Thursday, but there may be another signing through the door by then too.

Reports from l'Equipe in France have suggested Spurs have made a €24million (£20million) bid for centre-back Esteve, who is thriving under former Tottenham player Scott Parker at Burnley. However, the Clarets are understood to want £30million to sell him.

The Clarets are third in the Championship and have lost just twice under Parker. That statistic may in itself be quite something in such a competitive league, but there is another, truly incredible statistic that will make Spurs supporters sit up and take notice.

Burnley have played 30 Championship matches this season and have conceded just nine goals, failing to concede more than once in any game so far this season. And Esteve has been central to that form.

The 22-year-old has played every single game and has only failed to play the full 90 minutes on two occasions.

Parker described the defender as "exceptional" earlier in the season. He said: "For sure we’ve got an exceptional player in Maxi and we’re going to work tirelessly with him to keep nudging him along. But he’s been brilliant for us since I’ve been here.

"He probably fits into that bracket of having a lot of work needing to be done, there’s loads of improving and fine-turning, but he’s someone that is humble and willing to improve."

Tottenham have suffered yet another setback after it was confirmed that Radu Dragusin has picked up an ACL injury,. as first reported by The Athletic.

The Romanian, who has been filling in at the back due to injuries to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, will now sit out the rest of the season, after the extent of his injury was revealed.

Dragusin went down during the game with Elfsborg in the Europa League, having initially been given a well-deserved rest with van de Ven making his return to the starting XI.

It was agreed that van de Ven would only be given 45 minutes, meaning Dragusin was always going to come on and he suffered a knee injury late in the second half. Tottenham secured safe passage into the last 16 of the Europa League in that game thanks to a 3-0 win, with the goasl coming from academy graduates Dane Scarlett, Damola Ajayi and Mikey Moore.

Dragusin has now been ruled out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury, adding to Ange Postecoglou's woes at the back. The 22-year-old is now set to have surgery on the injury and will look to return to action ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Spurs did sign Kevin Danso from Lens this week, to bolster their defensive options, with the club keen to add another signing to their ranks before the transfer window closes on Monday night.

Ange Postecoglou's key Mathys Tel chat and the crucial Tottenham change made behind the scenes

Monday brought a much-needed day off for the Tottenham Hotspur players and coaching staff after their efforts at the Gtech Community Stadium.

While Ange Postecoglou would have remained glued to his phone for updates on Spurs' transfer deadline activity, his players and staff would have been reflecting on a job well done at Brentford for a number of reasons. The previous day, the music and delighted voices heard from the away dressing room after the game certainly showed how pleased the players were.

For Postecoglou, his phone and a long chat would prove pivotal in Spurs' deadline day work and the U-turn that brought Mathys Tel back into Tottenham's sphere. For the Australian did what he's done already so many times for Spurs and that's sell his vision to a player with his brand of football.

Ask any player who has joined the north London outfit in the past 18 months and they will point to the words of Postecoglou as being a driving force behind them putting pen to paper at the club.

For Tel, the 19-year-old would have needed to be convinced about game time and his development and those back in Germany suggest the Frenchman needs to be used as a striker rather than as a winger.

That would have been an easy sell for Postecoglou because in his system the wingers have the licence to get into the box whenever possible and act like strikers. The 59-year-old would have simply pointed out who Spurs' top scorer is - right winger Brennan Johnson with 12 goals this season.

Son Heung-min, on the left-hand side, has 10 goals. In fact Dominic Solanke has 11, and Dejan Kulusevski, often found on the right, has nine, and midfielder James Maddison the same amount.

Postecoglou would have been able to make it clear to Tel that if you play in Tottenham's attack you're likely to score goals and get plenty of minutes. Spurs may be 14th in the table currently, but they're the joint third highest scorers in the Premier League.

Tel needs to feel the love right now. He's started just two Bundesliga games this season under Vincent Kompany after earning plenty of plaudits last term in a breakthrough campaign under Thomas Tuchel with 16 goal involvements in 40 games as an 18-year-old.

Postecoglou has such belief in what he's doing that it's infectious and it appears that Tel has caught the bug, as the pair help each other get back on the right track in their respective situations. The teenager will bring exciting energy and skill to the top end of the pitch when Spurs need it the most.

For now, Postecoglou and his coaching staff will have been pleased after Sunday's match with how their tactics worked against Thomas Frank's direct Brentford side.

They knew Spurs would have less energy after their Thursday night exploits, then coming to a Brentford team that had enjoyed seven days of recovering since their 2-1 win at Crystal Palace.

So Tottenham were tasked with keeping it tight, only pressing in selected moments and the full-backs were rarely inverted. In fact Pedro Porro's runs forward were and far between, in keeping with the fact that he has played more minutes than anyone else in the squad by a long way with 2,827 to his name. He also had 17-year-old Mikey Moore ahead of him and had to be wary of getting caught upfield.

The fresher Djed Spence was allowed to get up and down the pitch, with the knowledge that he would have the pace and energy to continually track back and contain Bryan Mbeumo, something the 24-year-old did to great effect.

"He's been outstanding since he's come into the team," Postecoglou told football.london of Spence. "He had to bide his time. It's fair to say we needed Djed to really be patient, and also just mature a little bit, and I think he has, and once he got into the team he's looked fantastic.

"He was important for us today, I think we'd missed him the last couple of games. He's one of these defenders that loves the challenge of taking on the elite in the Premier League wingers, there's some outstanding ones. And Bryan Mbeumo's right up there, especially here.

"You can see he loves that challenge. Like I said, that's another reason we kept Micky on ice, knowing Djed was back in, was going to help us enormously. So pleased to get him back in the team. He'll be important for us until Destiny gets back. He'll be important for us in this period."

Postecoglou has previously said Spence, with his current momentum, is going to push for a regular spot when everyone is fit and it's clear now on either flank that he can do the job against the best wingers while also being a threat at the top end of the pitch.

Also key for Postecoglou has been the dramatic change in set piece work behind the scenes within his staff.

football.london understands that assistant coaches Nick Montgomery and Mile Jedinak have been working closely together this season with hours spent on the Hotspur Way training pitches improving the team's set pieces at both ends of the pitch and the difference is clear.

When Son Heung-min swung in a dangerous corner in the 29th minute that struck Vitaly Janelt and bounced into the net, so Spurs made it eight set piece goals scored in the Premier League this season. That's just two fewer than the much-lauded set piece kings down the road Arsenal.

Montgomery and Jedinak's work at the other end has resulted in only six goals conceded from set pieces in the Premier League. That's fewer than Arsenal and Bournemouth, while Manchester United have conceded 11 and Wolves a whopping 17.

What makes the set piece work all the more impressive is that Spurs have been doing it without their key defenders and many of their tallest players. There's been no Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven or even Dominic Solanke to get their head to the ball.

Players like Ben Davies and Pedro Porro are not the tallest and Archie Gray has had to be taught how to defend like a centre-back, having not played in the role other than as a schoolboy. Davies spent much of Sunday's game talking the teenager through what he had to do against Frank's huge side.

Even Djed Spence at 6ft was coming up against the giants in the Brentford team yet all of them defended in exactly the way they had been drilled and with real determination. Richarlison also added his heading ability to the mix, taking one powerful shot bravely on his forehead in the first half.

Spurs are now right up there in the stats of being an attacking threat from set pieces and defending them.

It's about crosses as well with Brentford curling 30 of them into Tottenham's box on Sunday, as well as a barrage of long throws. Yet Spurs held firm and made it back-to-back clean sheets with Antonin Kinsky playing his part in trying to punch away what he could.

Leaders are emerging from within the group when others have been absent. Those inside the club have pointed to Rodrigo Bentancur as a growing presence in the team and a rapidly developing leader as he seeks to make up for lost time. Mostly quiet and reserved off the pitch, he's been growing as a senior figure on it among the young group.

The three-time Serie A winner has an improving grasp of English and the 27-year-old's communication with the younger players was clear during Sunday's win. Even before kick-off, the Uruguayan could be seen with his arm around 21-year-old Kinsky, delivering a pep talk to the young goalkeeper, who would go on to record his first Premier League clean sheet.

After the win in Hoffenheim the previous week, Bentancur picked up the shattered Gray from the floor and with a hand on either side of his face, told him passionately just how well he had played during the Europa League victory in Germany.

During Sunday's win, Bentancur was a reassuring calm presence to the team, constantly telling them to take a breath with their play after early nerves set in.

He more than played his part, with 10 ball recoveries, seven clearances, five headed clearances and two interceptions and was a vital cog in the result-sealing second goal of the game.

Those battling stats were similar across the board for Tottenham's backline, with Porro leading the way with 21 defensive actions while Davies, Gray and Spence shone with their work.

Postecoglou was asked whether Gray could become a centre-back eventually and the fact that he's changed his answer in recent weeks because of the 18-year-old's performances says everything.

"Who knows, but you can't lose sight of the fact he's never played there before. I just think he's a fantastic player," he said. "I'm so pleased he's at this football club, and he's a fantastic kid as well.

"He just wants to learn, no task is too much for him, he tackles everything with a real kind of calmness that belies his years. He wants to learn, he wants to get better. We are just very, very fortunate to have him at our football club.

"Whatever position he ends up playing, he's going to be outstanding. He has that attitude of wanting to improve, wanting to get better. He's already set a high benchmark. There aren't many 18-year-olds who you could throw into the Premier League, play out of position in such an important area of the park, and handle it the way he has. Just brilliant."

The arrival of Kevin Danso will allow Gray to begin the move back to midfield or right-back and the experiences of recent weeks will serve the teenager hugely in his development and confidence at this level.

With Radu Dragusin set for a lengthy spell out, Tottenham are looking for another centre-back to bolster the defence in the final hours or deadline day, with a move for Chelsea's Axel Disasi continuing to lurk as a possibility. Spurs made an attempt late on Sunday evening to prise Marc Guehi away from Crystal Palace but that was rejected and now they will likely have to join the queue of suitors who will try to get the England international this summer with his contract reaching its final year.

Danso will fit exactly what Postecoglou is trying to do with his pace, power and ability with the ball.

He is also yet another player from the Postecoglou school of hard knocks, one who has had to drop down a level before climbing their way back up again. The Spurs boss loves a fighter.

"Great to get Kevin in. We desperately need a defender, but getting him is great because he's a great fit for us," said the Australian. "He's had a strong career, but he's at an age now where he really wants to kick on.

"He's got all the attributes we look for, he's really strong one-on-one, he's quick, he's dynamic, he wants to play on the ball, so, and like I said he's just at a stage of his career where he's really determined to kick on now and make an impact. So really pleased, I think it'll be a lift for the whole group."

Spurs skipper Son also continues to step up at the moment for Postecoglou. The Tottenham head coach does not give his leaders an easy ride. If the leadership groups at the club in the past were ever given more leeway, they certainly do not get it under Postecoglou.

He is quick to let the captains, vice-captains and senior players know his thoughts on their performances, especially in team meetings, and making it clear whether he thought they did enough when the younger players were giving everything.

Son has stepped up and this was another performance packed with defensive work - five ball recoveries, three clearances and three headed ones - as much as it was with attacking endeavour.

Having only a 45-minute stint against Elfsborg helped the South Korean's energy levels and it was fitting that after forcing the first goal, he played the pinpoint pass into the path of Pape Matar Sarr to poke through the legs of the goalkeeper.

It's worth noting that it was Bentancur who drove up the pitch late on to start the move for the crucial goal, with the two 18-year-olds Bergvall and Gray having shown real determination to get the ball out of a tight spot to Dejan Kulusevski first in the build-up.

This was a start for Spurs, coming to a place where many have struggled and winning with a battling display.

It's something to build on and with the cavalry finally coming over the horizon in the shape of new recruits and fit again players, Postecoglou will be looking to turn a bruising campaign into a season to remember.

Can Mathys Tel play for Tottenham in Europa League after deadline day deal agreed

Tottenham Hotspur are close to completing their fourth signing of the January transfer window as the deadline fast approaches.

Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel is expected to complete a move to Spurs before the transfer window closes. Tottenham have until 11pm on Monday night to complete their transfer business before the window closes.

Tel is expected to sign for Spurs on loan until the end of the season, although football.london understands that some details of the move still need to be finalised. It remains to be seen if the loan will include an option or obligation to buy at the end of the campaign.

Spurs had agreed a £50million deal with Bayern last week to sign Tel on a permanent deal before the move fell through. Tottenham had continued to monitor's the striker's situation at the Bundesliga club, with Manchester United and Arsenal also showing an interest before the deadline.

With Tottenham looking to complete their fourth signing of the window after the arrivals of Kevin Danso, Antonin Kinsky and Yang Min-hyeok, with the latter recently joining Queens Park Rangers on loan. The arrival of Tel would add another forward option to Ange Postecoglou's squad for domestic and European competitions.

UEFA rules stated that players signed during the January transfer window could not play until the league phase had been completed. Tottenham have now played all eight of their 'group stage' matches, securing a fourth-place finish and will now look ahead to the last-16 of the competition.

Now that the league phase of the tournament has been completed, Spurs are now able to use their new signings when they play their last-16 ties in the Europa League. As well as Tel, this will also mean that Danso and Kinsky will also be available to face whichever team Tottenham are drawn against, with the last-16 ties taking place next month.

Premier League loan rules explained for Tottenham amid Mathys Tel transfer confusion

Tottenham are set to add a third loanee to their squad for the remainder of the season. Mathys Tel, who looked on course to remain at Bayern Munich after a dramatic final two weeks of the January window, will join Kevin Danso as an option for Ange Postecoglou.

Unlike with Danso, who will be signed permanently for just over £20million in the summer, as per the clause in his contract, Tel is not expected to stay beyond June 30. The final details and structure is still being finalised, football.london understands, so things could change.

However, what doesn't change is that Spurs will have three loanees at once. Timo Werner, after initially moving on a six-month deal of his own, is currently in the middle of a season-long loan himself.

Tottenham do have an option to buy him after June 30 but given the way he has found life under Postecoglou, that does not appear likely. Nevertheless, Tel will still be the third at one time for the remainder of this season.

Despite some confusion around how Tottenham can do this, it is allowed. Changes to FIFA's international loan rules have restricted matters in recent years but not to the extent that Spurs are running into trouble.

Premier League regulations allow for up to four domestic loans into a club across a season. No more than two are allowed at the same time, either, with only one player from a single team able to come in as well.

Arsenal, for example, would have needed to end their loan of Raheem Sterling or Neto if they were to bring in someone else during the January window. For loans coming from outside of England there is less strict legislation.

That plays into Tottenham's hands as they take on three at once. FIFA allows six players to come in or out with an exception for club-trained players who are aged 21 or younger. No more than three can arrive from one club outside of England, either.

In total, though, it means that eight players can be loaned throughout a season, as long as the other stipulations are met. Therefore, when Tottenham do get to the stage of eventually signing Tel, there is no worry of rules being broken.

Between Tel, Bayern, and the other interested parties, a club-to-club understanding was never reached. That left Tel in limbo ahead of the final four months of the season.

Tottenham have taken the chance on the versatile attacker, who is capable of playing both on the left wing and as a centre forward. He will bolster Postecoglou's options during a period of fitness issues across the squad.

Mathys Tel's agent, Gadiri Camara, has posted online from a plane that is thought to be flying his client to England ahead of a proposed move to Tottenham. The 19-year-old is set to move to the club on loan after a remarkable change of circumstances.

Spurs had agreed a deal with Bayern Munich over the purchase of Tel only for him to turn Ange Postecoglou's side down. Now, in a late deadline day twist, he will be joining for the remainder of the season.

Writing online via his Instagram story, Camara posted an image with Tel in the background as he sits on a private jet. The caption, "Allahuma Barik", translates to 'May Allah bless you.'

Tel will join Tottenham along with Kevin Danso after he was confirmed as arriving on a loan with an obligation to buy over the summer. The structure of this deal with Bayern is yet to be finalised but it is not expected to be a permanent one.

Bayern had been discussing Tel's future with Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United in the past two weeks. He had initially decided to remain in Bavaria but took the plunge to push for a move after being left as an unused substitute by Vincent Kompany in three successive games.

That left Spurs to negotiate a transfer, with Daniel Levy flying out to Germany for talks. After agreeing a £51million deal, Tel turned down the chance to move.

Tottenham have six Mathys Tel transfer alternatives after Bayern Munich star's snub

Tottenham Hotspur ideally want to sign an attacker who can play across the front line as the January window draws to a close on transfer deadline day.

Mathys Tel reportedly turned down Spurs over the weekend after choosing Manchester United instead. Arsenal are also said to be in talks with Bayern Munich, while Chelsea were interested, but doing a deal became too complicated for the Blues. Aston Villa were even said to be keen at one stage but have now signed Marcus Rashford on loan.

Therefore, Tel appears likely to stay at Bayern or move elsewhere over joining Tottenham, meaning the club must now turn to another alternative after already missing out on Randal Kolo Muani to Juventus. football.london looks at six other attacking players Spurs could sign.

Alejandro Garnacho

football.london understands Chelsea remain interested in Alejandro Garnacho. However, Tottenham have reputedly enquired about signing the Man United winger but that has since been suggested to be wide of the mark.

James McAtee

The Manchester City player is another option Spurs are said to have enquired about, according to TBR Football. Bayer Leverkusen have reputedly approached them about taking James McAtee on loan.

Joao Felix

football.london understands Aston Villa are interested in Joao Felix, with Unai Emery considered a massive admirer of the player. However, Tottenham have been credited with an interest in the forward by The Telegraph.

Jonathan David

Spurs have shown interest in the striker, who has just six months remaining on his contract with Lille. They are far from the only Premier League club credited with an interest in the Canada international, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man United and Newcastle United previously linked.

Leon Bailey

Villa signing Donyell Malen and Rashford while also making a move for Marco Asensio has seemingly led Spurs to make a move for Leon Bailey. Fabrizio Romano claims Man United have also called about the Jamaica international. However, the West Midlands club do not appear open to a move, but that could conceivably change should Asensio arrive.

Tyler Dibling

The Southampton teenager is someone Spurs are credited with an interest in after an impressive start to the season.

Saints, however, reportedly value Tyler Dibling at around £75million and appear unlikely to sell at this stage.

word message after Spurs transfer 'interest'

Chelsea’s Joao Felix has already made his stance on joining Tottenham clear, as the north London side have reportedly shown an interest in raiding their rivals.

Felix has found minutes hard to come by under Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge this campaign. And as Ange Postecoglou’s side remain active in the rapidly closing transfer market, one surprise name that has emerged on their list of potential recruits is Portuguese forward Felix.

Having joined the Blues for £44.5million in the summer after a loan spell with them in 2023, new boss Maresca hasn’t found a regular place in his starting XI for the star, who once moved from Benfica to Atletico Madrid for £144m. Now, it is suggested that Felix will likely move on from the Blues before the window closes.

The Telegraph reports that Chelsea could look to offload Felix on the final day of the window and that both Spurs and Aston Villa are sides that have shown an interest. However, they also suggest that the Blues would be far more likely to offload their forward to a club outside the Premier League, such as AC Milan, as they would prefer not to do business with a direct rival.

Yet Felix has, in the past, made it quite clear whether he would be open to switching to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. In 2019, before he became one of the most expensive signings of all time and made his move to Atletico, the 25-year-old was linked with Spurs.

After his move away from the Portuguese capital, he was asked whether – though it had not come to fruition then – a move to the north London club would ever be on the cards, and his response was telling.

"I don't know, maybe one day," replied Felix a little over five years ago, hinting that perhaps Spurs are a club he wouldn't turn down playing for. It remains highly unlikely that the tricky forward will switch from the west of London to the north before the windows closes, though. But as the player himself has admitted, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility at some stage.

Postecoglou's side have already been in reported conversation with their rivals over a move for defender Axel Disasi – which has since collapsed.

Meanwhile, speaking in January, Maresca made it clear that Felix and Chelsea’s talisman, Cole Palmer, cannot play together. He stated: "The only thing I've said since the start of this season is that it's difficult to play him [Felix] with so many attacking players.

"In my opinion it means that if Joao plays, it means Cole doesn't play. Or, if Joao plays, he has to play with Cole together, but it depends on the game. For me, it's quite easy, we have three players but they are more or less similar; Cole, Joao and Christopher Nkunku.

"Joao played some games, Christo [Nkunku] also played, and they both started against Ipswich and Southampton they played, Leicester they played. Some games they can both play together, but not every game because every game is a bit different."

Tottenham launch stunning £70m transfer deadline day swoop after Ange Postecoglou decision

Tottenham have made a deadline day bid to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. According to reports the offer was worth up to £70million and has been rejected.

Guehi has been a serious target for a number of top clubs including Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle United. The Magpies were close to buying the 24-year-old in the summer but couldn't close out a deal.

It comes with Spurs still keen to add more cover at centre-back to Ange Posteocglou's squad. On Sunday they confirmed the arrival of Kevin Danso from Lens.

He has moved on an initial loan with an obligation to buy coming in at more than £20million. Subject to getting a work permit, the Austrian international could make his debut later this week in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg away to Liverpool.

Tottenham are still looking to make more moves before the 11pm deadline on Monday, February 3. They have seen talks break down with Chelsea over a loan for Axel Disasi, football.london understands.

Due to injury problems across the squad, Postecoglou is aiming to reinforce his backline. Radu Dragusin is the latest to be ruled out after suffering a knee issue.

Guehi, who is now an England regular and captains Palace, has been sounded out as a late option. Tottenham's attempts to get the England international have been unsuccessful, though, with Oliver Glasner's side not having enough time to find a replacement.

They lost Trevoh Chalobah earlier this window after Chelsea chose to exercise a recall option in his loan. Guehi is out of contract at the end of June, 2026, meaning he will enter the summer with just 12 months left to run on his current deal.

Palace are expected to field more bids for the player and no extension is likely. Guehi moved from Chelsea to Selhurst Park in 2021 for £20million. Chelsea have a 20 per cent sell-on clause.
