Tottenham Hotspur take on Everton at Goodison Park in the Premier League with Ange Postecoglou battling new injury problems every single day.

Spurs already had nine injuries going into the match against David Moyes' side after Postecoglou confirmed that Brennan Johnson and Yves Bissouma were new doubts for the match. The Australian also said that a number of players were still feeling sore after the midweek north London derby and now he faces a major new absence.

His £65million striker Dominic Solanke looks set for a period on the sidelines after picking up a new injury ahead of the game on Sunday to ensure Spurs are missing most of their starting line-up as they take on the Toffees.

Postecoglou somehow needs to get a tune out of the remaining few fit players at the club as Spurs are currently languishing in 15th place in the Premier League table and despite their progress in all the cup competitions, they need to starting climb up the rungs of the league ladder.

Our Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold is at Goodison Park to cover the match. Scroll down for his latest updates from the Premier League clash.

Description

With just one win in their last nine Premier League games, Tottenham will be desperate for three points when they take on Everton at Goodison Park later today.

After falling to a 2-1 defeat against north London rivals Arsenal, Spurs dropped to 14th in the Premier League table, with the Lilywhites having won just seven of their 21 league games so far this campaign. In fact, their only league win since beating Manchester City 4-0 in November was against bottom-of-the-league Southampton, so Ange Postecoglou will be hoping for a much-needed three points against Everton.

With David Moyes now in charge, Everton currently sit 16th in the Premier League, with the Toffees having managed to score in just two of their last 11 league games. The last clash between the two sides was a straightforward one for Spurs though, with Postecoglou's side winning 4-0 in north London.

So, can Spurs put an end to their five-game winless run in the Premier League later today? Let's take a look.

We simulated Everton vs Spurs to get a score prediction

To complete this simulation, we used EA FC 25 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.

We predict that the Toffees could set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, with their line-up as follows: Pickford; Young, Tarkowski, Branthwaite, Mykolenko; Mangala, Gueye; Harrison, Doucoure, Ndiaye; Calvert-Lewin.

We predict that Spurs could line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their starting XI as follows: Kinsky; Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Spence; Bergvall, Kulusevski, Maddison; Johnson, Solanke, Son.

An uneventful first half played out at Goodison Park in the simulation, with a mix of good defending from Everton and lacklustre attacking from Spurs resulting in just two shots on target in the opening 45 minutes. Postecoglou's side were dominating the game with nothing to show for it, but against the run of play, it was Everton who went ahead.

Some nice link-up play on the right saw Jack Harrison surge into the middle of the pitch and away from Djed Spence, and with space, the winger picked out the run of Iliman Ndiaye with a fantastic through ball. The attacker got the wrong side of Radu Dragusin to latch onto the pass, and a deft finish with the outside of his boot saw him beat Antonin Kinsky with ease to put the Toffees 1-0 up.

After the goal, not much changed from Spurs' perspective, as they continued to dominate possession in the hope of breaking down the blunt Everton backline. It seemed like the elusive goal would never arrive, but in the 84th minute and 26 shots later, a stroke of luck allowed the Lilywhites to draw level.

In a rare attack with space behind the defence, James Maddison slipped Dominic Solanke through on goal, but the striker was unlucky to see his shot hit the post. Fortunately for Spurs, the ball rebounded back into the path of Dejan Kulusevski, and the Swede was able to tap into an empty net to make it 1-1.

Spurs' dominance continued into the final stages of the game, but they were unable to find a winner as the wait for a Premier League win continued.

EA FC 25 predicted final score: Everton 1-1 Spurs

Tottenham predicted team vs Everton as Ange Postecoglou decides on Dominic Solanke replacement

Ange Postecoglou's biggest opponent right now continues to be injuries and he will have to deal with a load of them as Tottenham travel to Everton on Sunday in the Premier League.

Postecoglou was already missing most of his first choice Spurs backline in Guglielmo Vicario, Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie along with long-term absentee Wilson Odobert. Midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur remains in the concussion protocol and Timo Werner has a hamstring injury, while the Tottenham boss revealed this week that Brennan Johnson and Yves Bissouma were also doubts after picking up issues in the north London derby in midweek while alluding to other players feeling sore after the defeat.

As if that wasn't bad enough, it is now also believed that striker Dominic Solanke has suffered an injury ahead of the match that is going to keep him out for a while.

Postecoglou admitted that he does at least have Ben Davies back and available for selection, while Richarlison and Mikey Moore have been improving their fitness in recent weeks.

The Australian continues to have slim pickings in defence and midfield and it's a case pretty much of whoever is fit enough to start will do so.

Here's the Tottenham team that we reckon Postecoglou could select, barring any further injuries in the days ahead of the game at Goodison Park.

Ange Postecoglou could consider triple Tottenham change vs Everton amid Yves Bissouma injury wait

Sunday's game at Everton could be huge in the context of Tottenham's season. Going into the game 15th in the Premier League table as a result of Crystal Palace's win at West Ham on Saturday afternoon, Ange Postecoglou's team have to collect all three points at Goodison Park.

Tottenham cannot afford for the current seven-point gap between themselves and Brighton to increase even further as that will only give them a mountain to climb in what remains of the season. If Spurs are to win on Merseyside then that will lift spirits ahead of important Europa League ties against Hoffenheim and Elfsborg either side of a home encounter against Leicester City.

Before those matches arrive, full focus is on Sunday's 2pm kick-off at Goodison Park. So could Postecoglou make a few changes to the Spurs team that lost 2-1 at Arsenal on Wednesday evening? football.london takes a look below.

Ben Davies for Pedro Porro

Ben Davies looks to be in a position to return to the matchday squad after last featuring in the defeat at Bournemouth in early December. He could be an option to come straight back into the Tottenham team as Postecoglou has been unable to rotate his defenders recently due to a lack of numbers.

As Djed Spence is not available to play in Thursday's Hoffenheim game, Davies could come in to give Pedro Porro a rest and that in turn would see Spence move across to the right from his berth on the left. Alternatively, the boss could opt to take out one of his centre-backs to give them a much-needed breather with plenty of football still to come before the month is out.

James Maddison for Yves Bissouma/Pape Matar Sarr

James Maddison has not started a Premier League game for Tottenham since the home defeat against Liverpool but that run could come to an end this weekend. Spurs desperately need some creativity in the middle of the park for such an important game in their season and Maddison can certainly supply them with that.

It will probably be either Pape Matar Sarr or Yves Bissouma who drop out of the team to accommodate Maddison, with that final decision likely to rest on the fitness of the Mali international. Postecoglou mentioned in his pre-match press conference that Bissouma is sore from the game against Arsenal and his participation in the game may rest on a late fitness test.

If that is the case, Lucas Bergvall could line up at No.6 with Sarr and Maddison just ahead of him. If Bissouma is fit, Sarr may find himself on the bench following a couple of poor displays in the past two games.

Richarlison for Dominic Solanke

Richarlison was bright in a late cameo appearance off the bench at Arsenal in midweek and he will have his fingers crossed for a start at his former home. That may now arrive amid reports that Dominic Solanke is set for a spell on the sidelines though injury.

The Brazilian demonstrated last season that he can make a difference in the final third for Tottenham, with the attacker hitting a double on his last visit to Goodison Park.

Tottenham handed disastrous Dominic Solanke 'injury' blow as 11 players could miss Everton clash

Dominic Solanke is the latest Tottenham player to have picked up an injury, with Ange Postecoglou facing the possibility of having 11 senior players unavailable for Sunday's Premier League clash against Everton. According to the Mail, Solanke is now set for a spell on the sidelines amid concerns he will miss more than just the game against the Toffees.

Spurs currently have four of their first-choice back five absent due to injuries, among other issues. Guglielmo Vicario and Wilson Odobert are the long-term injury concerns, and while Postecoglou was able to reveal one player will return on Sunday, Brennan Johnson and Yves Bissouma are fresh doubts. "There's a couple still sore from mid-week, just waiting to see how Brennan is, he's got a bit of a calf complaint," he said in a press conference.

"Biss has been sore as well, so just waiting for information on them. Coming back, Ben Davies should be involved." Elsewhere, Destiny Udogie is not expected back until next month with Timo Werner to return at a similar point after suffering a hamstring injury during the FA Cup tie against Tamworth.

The two most important players for Postecoglou's style of play are certainly Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, but both are in line for returns later this month. "Micky and Romero around the same time, they're all slated to return at the back end of January," he said at the start of 2025.

In terms of positive injury news, Richarlison returned from a lengthy absence in the North London Derby, but just as one striker returns, another is facing a period out. While the report from the Mail is unconfirmed, six weeks has been mooted as the spell he could miss, which in the worst-case scenario would result in him being unavailable for 11 games. Given his importance to Postecoglou and the way Spurs press, this is a disastrous blow, and it really does sum up the Lilywhites' season.

It is perhaps no surprise he has suffered an issue given the fact he has played so many minutes in recent weeks simply because Postecoglou has no one else available that can do that job.

Bissouma and Johnson wait, Romero, Van de Ven, Bentancur

At a time when Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham desperately need results, the treatment room at Hotspur Way still remains busy. Timo Werner joined some of his teammates on the injury table at the beginning of the week and now there are question marks hanging over Yves Bissouma and Brennan Johnson's fitness ahead of Sunday's game at Everton.

Despite the big numbers still working their way back to fitness, Postecoglou has received some positive news on the injury front with Ben Davies likely to be in a position to make the squad at Goodison Park after over a month out. Fraser Forster has also recovered from illness and could possibly return to the matchday 20 unless the boss wants to keep Brandon Austin ahead of the experienced goalkeeper in the pecking order.

Ahead of a huge week of football with Tottenham needing to return to winning ways, we have taken a look at those in the treatment room and when they are expected to be back on the pitch.

Guglielmo Vicario

Guglielmo Vicario will be hoping to return from injury ASAP now that Tottenham have Antonin Kinsky between the sticks. The Czech ace has made an instant impression in north London and he is certainly someone who can challenge the Italian for his starting spot in the months ahead.

Speaking ahead of the Newcastle United game at the start of the month, Postecoglou issued an update on Vicario's fitness and stated that he could be back towards the end of February.

"He's on schedule," he said. "It's obviously when it's a fracture, there's a kind of set schedule for him being in a boot, how much weight bearing he can do, and then sort of getting clearances along the way, so he's still sort of on the same timelines of end of February, I think was the initial prognosis, nothing's really changed in the short term."

Return date: Going on Postecoglou's comments about a possible return for Vicario at the end of February, Spurs' final game that month is at home to Manchester City on Wednesday, February 26. March will start with an FA Cup fifth round tie providing they progress past Aston Villa on Sunday, February 9.

Destiny Udogie

Destiny Udogie has not featured for Tottenham this year after suffering a hamstring injury in the draw against Wolves at the end of 2024. Postecoglou confirmed that his player faces a six-week absence, meaning it will be in February when he likely returns to action.

Return date: The FA Cup game away at Aston Villa would mark six weeks on from his injury against Wolves. Tottenham's following game after that comes at home to Manchester United seven days later.

Cristian Romero

It shouldn't be too long at all now until Cristian Romero is back on the pitch for Tottenham. The World Cup winner returned from a toe problem to face Chelsea in early December but he left the pitch after just 15 minutes with a new muscle injury.

Postecoglou has mentioned previously that it should be the end of January when Romero is available once again.

Return date: A slated return of the end of January could mean a comeback against Elfsborg in the Europa League or Tottenham's first game of February at Brentford.

Micky van de Ven

Micky van de Ven is also in the same boat as Romero with a return at the end of January mentioned. The Dutchman has not made an appearance for Tottenham since the home defeat to Chelsea in early December after picking up another hamstring injury.

Return date: A return at the end of January could mean a comeback against Elfsborg in the Europa League or Tottenham's first game of February at Brentford.

Rodrigo Bentancur

Postecoglou explained prior to the Tamworth FA Cup game that Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a concussion in their Carabao Cup win over Liverpool. Out for a couple of weeks because of it, the player's return may possibly come next week as Wednesday will mark a fortnight since the Liverpool game.

Return date: A possible return next week at Hoffenheim or the home game against Leicester City.

Yves Bissouma

There are now doubts over Bissouma's fitness heading into Sunday's Premier League game at Everton. Speaking in his press conference on Friday afternoon, Postecoglou explained that the midfielder is sore from the midweek defeat at Arsenal.

Return date: All will become clear on Sunday.

Brennan Johnson

Johnson is another player who is a doubt for this weekend. Postecoglou revealed that his player has a calf complaint and that he's just waiting for information on the Spurs duo.

Return date: All will become clear on Sunday.

Timo Werner

The head coach also mentioned in Friday's press conference that Werner faces three to four weeks out of action. The German picked up a hamstring injury in the FA Cup win over Tamworth last Sunday and was subsequently ruled out of the North London Derby.

Return date: Three to four weeks on from when he suffered the injury could mean a potential return against either Brentford, Liverpool or Aston Villa in early February.

Wilson Odobert

Tottenham fans will likely have to wait until the back end of the season to see Wilson Odobert in action once again. Suffering a hamstring injury against Coventry City in the Carabao Cup before doing likewise against AZ Alkmaar the following month, the Frenchman went under the knife as a result and Postecoglou told football.london in November that "obviously Wilson will be out for a fair chunk of the season".

Return date: Later this season.

Former Tottenham Hotspur talent Dele Alli will reportedly sign for Como FC on Sunday having, trained with the team managed by Cesc Fabregas as a free agent to begin 2025.

The 28-year-old has been without a club ever since departing Everton last summer, though he continued to train with the Premier League club until last month.

Dele's parting statement read: ""As widely published this week, 2025 may set me on a new path with some exciting opportunities. Before any of that happens it’s very important for me to make clear how grateful I am of all the fans, staff and players at Everton FC for the support they have given me.

"It’s been an incredibly tough journey trying to put the final pieces together to regain match fitness and I cannot thank the Everton staff enough for the hard work they have put into this process. Unfortunately things haven’t worked out as we all would have hoped and I think it’s the right time for me to turn a new page.

"I want to wish everyone at this amazing club the very best of luck and hopefully we will see each other again soon."

After his exit from Goodison Park, Dele began training with the Como with a view of potentially earning a contract with the Serie A side, who are currently managed by former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Fabregas. Beginning 2025 the ex-Spurs favourite was only taking part in training, though Fabrizio Romano now reports the playmaker has won himself a contract in mere weeks.

According to the update, Dele will sign a contract tomorrow valid until the end of the 2025/26 campaign. There will be an option to extend for a further year, activated based upon appearances.

Como's next match is at home to Udinese on Monday night, and that could end up being the midfielder's first professional appearance since February 2023 when on loan to Turkish outfit Besiktas.

Como are high-flying in the Italian top-flight under Fabregas' guidance with heavy financial backing after promotion last year. Their squad boasts a number of high profile stars including Sergi Roberto, Nico Paz, Andrea Belotti, Alberto Moreno and Pepe Reina.

Tottenham have confirmed the sad news that their double FA Cup-winning hero Garry Brooke has passed away aged 64 after a long illness.

Brooke passed away on Saturday morning, with Spurs expressing their heartache over such an "impossibly difficult time" for his loved ones. In a statement from the club: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former player Garry Brooke this morning, following a lengthy battle with illness. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this impossibly difficult time."

During his tenure with Spurs, Brooke played 101 times, netting 18 goals, before embarking on a career path that took him across a host of clubs including Norwich, Groningen in the Netherlands, Wimbledon, Stoke City, Brentford, Colchester United, Reading, and St Albans City.

Norwich City also extended their heartfelt tributes through their own statement: "All at Norwich City are saddened to learn of the passing of former player Garry Brooke after a battle with illness. We pass on our sincere condolences to Garry's loved ones at this sad time."

Ossie Ardiles, a former teammate of Brooke at Tottenham, reached out on social media to express his sorrow: "Very very sad news. Gary was a wonderful player and even more a wonderful friend.

"My thoughts and prayers with your family and friends. Very honoured to have played football with you and been your friend. Rest in peace dear Brooksy."

Born in Bethnal Green in 1960, Brooke joined Tottenham Hotspur in 1978. Before making his debut in the 1980-81 season, he had a loan spell with Swedish side GAIS.

His first season was a triumphant one as he lifted the FA Cup with Spurs following a 3-2 victory over Manchester City in the final, where he made an appearance off the bench. The subsequent year saw Brooke clinch another FA Cup with Spurs, once again coming off the bench during extra time.

5 things spotted in Tottenham training for Everton

The hard work continues at Hotspur Way as Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham side look to return to winning ways this weekend against Everton. Fresh from their 2-1 defeat at Arsenal on Wednesday evening, Spurs desperately need to claim three points to ensure they do not fall even further behind the teams in the top half of the Premier League table.

Games between the sides at Goodison Park do tend to be very tight affairs, with the last five league meetings on Merseyside all ending in a draw. A draw is not the result either side will want on Sunday, though, as Everton also need the win to create a gap between themselves and the bottom three.

Ahead of the game at Everton, Spurs have given fans a little glimpse into their preparations following the release of their latest training video. Here are five things we spotted in the session at the club's Enfield base:

Richarlison sharp

Richarlison returned to action for Tottenham on Wednesday evening with a bright cameo off the bench against Arsenal. Due to his injury woes this season and the fact he only made his comeback a couple of days ago, a start at his former home may come too soon for him as Postecoglou won't want to push him too much and risk another injury.

Richarlison is certainly looking sharp in front of goal if Tottenham's training footage is anything to go by. Involved in a drill with players such as Ben Davies, Mikey Moore, Will Lankshear, Yang Min-hyeok and some academy stars, the Brazilian displayed his range of finishing by finding the back of the net a number of times when played through on goal.

Scoring twice in the same fixture last February, he will be looking to find the scoresheet again at Goodison Park as he attempts to finally get his season up and running.

Defender returns

There was a welcome sight on the training ground as Davies was involved in training ahead of Sunday's game at Everton. Not featuring for Spurs in just over a month since sustaining a hamstring injury at Bournemouth, the Welshman was expected to return in late December before suffering another setback that would keep him on the sidelines for a further couple of weeks.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon, Postecoglou indicated that the Welshman "should be involved" in the squad this weekend. Davies' return will certainly come as a boost to the head coach and allow him to tweak things at the back if he so wishes as Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray have played so much football at centre-back since early December.

Forster spotted

Fraser Forster was another to be back on the training pitch after an absence from the team. Missing out through illness in the home defeat to Newcastle United two weeks ago, the experienced goalkeeper was also not involved in the following matches against Liverpool, Tamworth and Arsenal.

In his pre-match press conference, Postecoglou revealed that Forster's first full involvement in training since his time out through illness was in fact this week. He said: "He is back in training doing his first full training session sort of today and maybe the day before the last game. He is back in training."

The return of the ex-Celtic man does present Postecoglou with a decision to make in terms of his squad as it could result in Brandon Austin dropping out of the matchday 20. However, the academy graduate was excellent on his senior debut in Forster's absence and it may be he who retains his place as the 36-year-old is forced to watch on from the stands.

Two training groups

What was evident in the training video was that the Tottenham players involved in the session were split into two different groups. The first group featured the outfield players who played all or the majority of Wednesday's defeat against Arsenal.

Dragusin, Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Pape Matar Sarr, James Maddison and Son Heung-min were just some of the players in question as they were involved in some light training after playing at the Emirates. The video showed the players partaking in some running drills and stretches at a time when the second group were playing a small-sided game.

As mentioned above, Richarlison, Davies, Moore, Lankshear, Yang and Sergio Reguilon worked together and they were joined by Forster, Austin, Antonin Kinsky and Alfie Whiteman for the training exercise.

Absent players

There are now question marks over Yves Bissouma and Brennan Johnson's fitness heading into Sunday's game at Everton. The former started the game at Arsenal but was hooked at the break, with the latter introduced at half-time as Spurs attempted to find a way back into the contest.

"There's a couple still sore from midweek, just waiting to see how Brennan is, he's got a bit of a calf complaint, and Biss has been sore as well, so just waiting for information on them," said Postecoglou in his time with the press on Friday.

The aforementioned players were not spotted in Tottenham's training video that was released on Saturday morning. As expected, there was also no sighting of injured stars Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Destiny Udogie, Wilson Odobert and Timo Werner, with Rodrigo Bentancur also not there after suffering a concussion against Liverpool just over a week ago.

The Tottenham team Postecoglou must pick vs Everton

Submitted by daniel on
Picture
Remote Image
Description

Ange Postecoglou needs to get his Tottenham team winning matches in the Premier League as they make the trip to Everton this weekend.

Spurs will head to Goodison Park for the last time in the Premier League before the Toffees move to their new home next season and Postecoglou needs to come away with a victory to stop the rot in the league which has seen the north London side tumble down to 14th place despite their progress in the cup competitions.

Tottenham's list of unavailable players had been gradually decreasing but they are still missing most of their defenders across the backline and goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and now Brennan Johnson and Yves Bissouma are doubts for the game on Sunday. Postecoglou does have Ben Davies back in contention though.

We asked our Spurs correspondents Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest to name the starting XI they would pick to face Everton on Sunday and here's what they came up with.

Alasdair Gold - Tottenham correspondent

We're going to assume that Brennan Johnson and Yves Bissouma are either out or will be on the bench for fear of worsening their current problems. Ben Davies is now back but it's a big ask to throw the experienced defender straight back in and perhaps it would be better to do that against Hoffenheim after another few days of training.

Using the Welshman would at least allow Archie Gray to potentially get a game in midfield but otherwise the options are pretty sparse if Johnson and Bissouma are out.

There could be a return for James Maddison to the starting line-up and Pape Matar Sarr only played half of the north London derby before being hooked. He needs to be much better at Goodison Park if he is to start. It's probably too early to start Richarlison but that might come in midweek.

Gold's team: Kinsky; Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Spence; Sarr, Bergvall, Maddison; Kulusevski, Solanke, Son.

Rob Guest - Football writer

Postecoglou's main decision heading into Sunday's Premier League game against Everton is likely to centre around his midfield. James Maddison should come back into starting XI for the first time in the league since the 5-0 win at Southampton as Spurs require some much-needed creativity for a match of such importance.

Pape Matar Sarr has struggled in the past couple of fixtures and he may drop down out of the team as a result. However, if Yves Bissouma is absent as Postecoglou mentioned that the Mali international is a bit sore from the Arsenal defeat, Sarr should start alongside Maddison and Lucas Bergvall.

Defence picks itself at present and the same goes for attack. A starting spot has probably come a game too soon for Richarlison, who has the opportunity this weekend to really up the pressure on Son Heung-min if he can have another positive cameo from the bench.

Guest's team: Kinsky; Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Spence; Bissouma, Bergvall, Maddison; Kulusevski, Solanke, Son.
