On how the job here is different to his Leicester City job

I took it exactly the same way; focus on the squad, how we can help them and improve the team. The same way I took the Leicester job is how I took this. Improve the players and the team, no more than that. I get paid for that, no more than that. I spend many hours to figure out how I can help the players improve.

On keeping players happy

I try to have a close relation with the players. You can see at Leicester I had a fantastic relation with the players. I loved them. I'm trying to do the same thing here. The problem is if you say something they don't like, they think you don't want them to be close.

The same thing happened with Reece James and when I spoke about leadership. I want him to improve and it's the same with Noni, nothing different.

On his Madueke comments

Noni, overall he is working well since we started but sometimes he drops a little bit. He is not allowed to drop. In terms of numbers, he is doing fantastic. Off the ball when we ask him to defend and press, he is doing very well. The reason I said this the other day is because I want the best for Noni and the way to do that is to push him. The moment he relaxes a little bit, it is wrong.

Spurs team news

Ange Postecoglou has delivered the latest Tottenham team news ahead of the Chelsea match on Sunday.

Ben [Davies], too early again [to tell] mate, he'll go for a scan today, we're talking 10 hours after last night's game, so we'll find out more. Cuti [Romero] is due to train, we're not doing much today but we'll see how he goes tomorrow.

Mourinho hits back

Jose Mourinho has taken umbrage with what Pep Guardiola said about the number of titles he won in comparison with the Manchester City boss.

Guardiola and Man City stopped the rot on Wednesday when they claimed a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium. It ended a run of four straight defeats in the Premier League and seven games without a win in all competitions.

Guardiola had been subject to taunts from the Liverpool fans after the 2-0 loss at Anfield on Sunday that he was "getting sacked in the morning". The Spaniard responded by showing six fingers to the Reds faithful - one for every Premier League title he has won.

Madueke sends title message

Noni Madueke has insisted the Chelsea players are "up for" fighting for the Premier League title this season, despite Enzo Maresca consistently saying the Blues are not in the race.

Madueke starred in Chelsea's win against Southampton earlier in the week, scoring and assisting down on the south coast.

Talking points

Chelsea recorded a comfortable 5-1 victory at Southampton a couple of days ago. Goals from Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer and Jadon Sancho ensured a crucial win for the Blues on the road.

Bobby Vincent was at St. Mary's on Wednesday night covering the game - and you can read his talking points from the match below.

Welcome

Hello and welcome to football.london for live coverage of Enzo Maresca's pre-match press conference.

The Chelsea head coach is set to speak to the media from 1pm GMT today. Maresca will be previewing the Blues' trip to Tottenham at the weekend, as well as talking about the Premier League title race. And much more.

It is still the right decision and I own them [transfers] because I believe they are the right decisions for this club. I have said numerous times, I make these decisions with the kind of background that I’m going to be here for a while to see this through. To be honest, if I was worried about my own existence I would have fought tooth and nail to block Harry Kane leaving but it wasn’t the right decision for the club because he was in the last year of his contract. That is not what drives me. The decisions we made around signing young players are the right decisions for this club for where we are at right now and they will bear fruit.

Yeah we have [lost experience] but we needed to do that. We needed to do that because it was a team that was coming towards the end of its cycle and we were rebuilding not just the squad but the playing style and you couldn’t replace experience with experience because that is not a rebuild. That is kind of topping up because you feel you are close to something and we weren’t close to anything.

I’m not hurting, I am determined and that’s all. I don’t want to say it is unacceptable because like I said, it is what it is. I have lived in this world for long enough to know that when people aren’t happy, they’ll express their opinions and I am never going to hide. I am never going to shirk that responsibility, that’s fine. I will take on board. Is it nice? No, because like I said last night I am not just a manager, I am a human being like everyone else and none of us like to hear those sorts of things, but it is what it is. It doesn’t disappoint me, it doesn’t frustrate me, it doesn’t make me angry. I am just as determined as ever to get it right, not because of that but because of my resolve to bring success to the football club.

'An exasperating evening' - national media slam Ange Postecoglou for snarky Arsenal tactic comment

Ange Postecoglou has been slammed by the national media following Tottenham Hotspur's 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth. The Cherries stormed past the Lilywhites at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday night, leapfrogging them in the Premier League table.

Despite previously downplaying the importance of set-pieces, Spurs – ironically – conceded from a corner. Dean Huijsen became Bournemouth’s youngest-ever scorer in the English top flight, leaping above his marker to head home past Fraser Forster.

Tottenham couldn't even salvage a point, dropping to 10th in the table – which didn't go down well with the travelling supporters. So, with that being said, football.london has looked at how the national media reacted to Tottenham's disappointing defeat on the south coast.

The Daily Mail

"The euphoria of Manchester City already seems like a long time ago for Ange Postecoglou," said Matt Barlow. "Twelve days since the four-goal romp at the home of the champions have brought him problems and setbacks at every turn like an advent calendar from hell.

"Injuries and illnesses have stacked against him and three fixtures in eight days have brought him no wins. Equalisers were conceded at home against Roma and Fulham and his depleted side did not deserve anything at Bournemouth, who climbed above them in the table."

The Sun

"Tottenham's set-piece pain might be easier to take were their North London arch-rivals not so bloody good at them," said Tom Barclay. "While Arsenal and their dead-ball expert Nicolas Jover cornered another opponent on Wednesday night, Spurs suffered more set-piece pain last night on the rainy South Coast.

"Dean Huijsen became Bournemouth’s youngest ever Premier League scorer as he rose highest to head home a first-half corner. It was actually only Spurs’ fourth goal shipped from a dead-ball delivery, excluding penalties, this term.

"But when you couple it with their woes from those particular situations last time - and how boss Ange Postecoglou seemed to dismiss their importance - along with Arsenal’s ridiculous success from them, it made for an exasperating evening for their fans."

The Telegraph

"It is never quite clear if Tottenham are the best bad team or the worst good one," said Thom Gibbs. "Not with results like Thursday’s 0-1 at Bournemouth coming so soon after their 4-0 at Manchester City. Their uncertain identity is compounded by a stadium which is the finest for football in this country but only ramps up the contradictions.

"Champions League regulars without a trophy since 2008, chronically inconsistent, capable of great heights but often with a hapless new low just around the corner. There is a word for all of this and unfortunately for Tottenham it is 'Spursy'."

Ange Postecoglou may now have no option but to repeat Tottenham experiment against Chelsea

Ange Postecoglou will be praying for some positive news on the injury front over the next couple of days. Tasting defeat on Thursday evening as Tottenham slumped to a hugely disappointing 1-0 loss at Bournemouth, the north London club return to action on Sunday with a London derby showdown against Chelsea.

At a time when Tottenham go into the game with a host of injuries and their form so inconsistent, Chelsea, on the other hand, are second in the Premier League table and scoring goals for fun. Enzo Maresca's team are oozing confidence right now and there is a possibility that they could even challenge the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City for the Premier League title if their current form continues to go from strength to strength.

Chelsea were 4-1 victors at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last November and Postecoglou's men need to try and right the wrongs of that defeat. Spurs look on course to go into this weekend's game with a real lack of options at centre-back, though.

Already without first-choice duo Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies was forced to make way on 62 minutes with what looked to be a hamstring injury. Spurs are already extremely short at centre-back as it is and the Welshman's injury raises some real questions ahead of Sunday's match.

"It looks like he's done his hamstring," said Postecoglou on Davies after the game. "Him and Radu have played every game. It's the one position we can't rotate. He'll obviously be out for a period of time now, we'll just have to wait and see how long it is. It's a consequence of having the squad we have at the moment."

Postecoglou's comments in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Bournemouth fixture would seem to suggest that the game will come too soon for Romero. Admitting that his last rehab sessions would be Wednesday and Thursday with a possible training return Friday, the boss also claimed that at the very latest the Argentine's comeback on the training pitch could be early next week.

If Romero is indeed to remain out and the same goes for Van de Ven, Postecoglou may have no option but to start Archie Gray at centre-back. The teenager is certainly no stranger to the position in a Tottenham shirt after making his first appearance for the club there against Hearts in July as the boss had no choice but to experiment.

Tottenham were short at centre-back then due to international football taking place in the summer and it resulted in a makeshift partnership of Gray and Oliver Skipp at the heart of defence. The Durham-born ace was to then pick up more experience there in the following friendlies against QPR and Vissel Kobe.

Gray has mainly featured as a full-back in his playing time this season but he did start the Europa League tie against Ferencvaros at centre-back alongside Romero. However, he would only be there for 45 minutes as he swapped positions with Davies at left-back for the second half of the contest.

Davies' early exit in Thursday's defeat at Bournemouth saw Gray move into the role once again as he partnered Radu Dragusin for what remained of the 1-0 defeat. On an evening when Gray made his first Premier League start for Tottenham, his second start could possibly come at centre-back against Chelsea on Sunday.

It's far from an ideal scenario for Postecoglou but he may have no option whatsoever but to start Gray alongside Dragusin. The hope will be that there is some positive news on the injury front regarding the two other injured centre-backs heading into the Chelsea fixture.

Gray certainly didn't look out of place in his game time against Bournemouth but it is going to be a different proposition altogether against Maresca's free-scoring Chelsea team. As was the case 12 months ago, Spurs have to somehow find a way through their upcoming games with a patched-up team before they can address the issues once the transfer market reopens.

January cannot come soon enough for Postecoglou and Tottenham.

Davies, Van de Ven, Romero - Tottenham injury news and return dates ahead of Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has plenty of headaches after a disappointing 1-0 defeat at AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League.

The only goal would come with less than 20 minutes on the clock as Dean Huijsen was left unmarked at the back post to head past Fraser Forster in the Tottenham goal. Spurs stirred after the interval and had the ball in the back of the net through Son Heung-min but he was rightly adjudged offside.

After that, it was a backs against the wall job for Tottenham with the Cherries piling on the pressure. However, the hosts were not able to add to their advantage but will have been happy to settle for a 1-0 win.

Postecoglou's problems are not just confined to what happened on the pitch this evening. He has a number of injury issues, too, and football.london has taken a look at when those players could return.

Ben Davies

Injury: Hamstring

What we know: Davies was forced off against Bournemouth on Thursday night with what appeared to be a hamstring issue. He went straight down the tunnel after coming off in a bad sign for Spurs.

Speaking after the match, Postecoglou said: "Yeah it looked like he's done his hamstring. He and Radu have had to play every game and it's a consequence of having the squad we do. It looks like he'll be out for a while now."

Potential return date: Unknown

Micky van de Ven

Injury: Hamstring

What we know: Van de Ven hinted that he is on the way to returning after being missing since picking up a hamstring issue on international duty. However, the trip to the South Coast proved to be too soon for the centre-back.

Potential return date: December

Cristian Romero

Injury: Foot

What we know: Romero is expected back in training on Friday or at the latest early next week, according to Ange Postecoglou. Such a timeline means the defender is unlikely to be back for Chelsea at the weekend.

Potential return date: December 12 vs Rangers

Guglielmo Vicario

Injury: Ankle

What we know: Vicario fractured his ankle just days after the whopping 4-0 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League. The goalkeeper has since undergone surgery on the injury and he is now in rehab.

Potential return date: Unknown

Mikey Moore

Injury: Illness

What we know: The youngster is continuing to recover from illness which he did not return from in time to face Bournemouth on Thursday night.

Potential return date: Unknown

Richarlison

Injury: Hamstring

What we know: Richarlison has been missing since the victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League. His hamstring strain is believed to be an issue which shall keep him out long-term.

Potential return date: January/February

Wilson Odobert

Injury: Hamstring

What we know: Odobert was forced to undergo surgery on his hamstring injury in mid-November which has prevented him playing for Spurs in the Premier League since the north London derby in September.

Enzo Maresca continues 'brutal Chelsea assessment' as Kai Havertz sends home truths

Chelsea are continuing their brilliant start under Enzo Maresca this week after a thumping victory over Southampton on Wednesday night.

Five different goalscorers condemned the South Coast club to a 5-1 defeat at St Mary's Stadium and moved Chelsea above Arsenal into second. The Blues are now focussing fully on their derby against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday knowing that Ange Postecoglou's side are in low spirits following a 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth on Thursday night.

Ahead of the game, football.london has taken a closer look at a couple of the stories floating around about Chelsea including the future of defender Axel Disasi and Kai Havertz's recent comments on leaving Stamford Bridge.

Maresca's mind made up on Disasi

According to TeamTalk, Maresca has decided that selling Disasi would be a wise option in the January transfer window. It is claimed the Italian deems Disasi as being limited and that he offers the potential to be sold for good money.

Disasi only joined Chelsea in 2023, signing a six-year deal at the time.

What FL says: Should this be Maresca's true thoughts on Disasi, it would not come as a surprise considering he is no stranger to declaring players as being out of his plans. As such a shame as it is to say it, sentimentality wins you nothing in football and if Maresca feels that Disasi can be upgraded upon or if the money accumulated from the sale can strengthen another area of the pitch, then it is the right call. However, creating an environment where players are fearful for their futures could back fire dramatically in the long run.

Havertz on his Chelsea exit

Speaking recently, Havertz insisted that leaving Chelsea in favour of Arsenal was one of the best decisions he has ever made. "For me, it's the best thing I could have done [joining Arsenal]," he told Sky Sports.

"I'm so happy with the support of everyone who helped me during my time there. I've only just started, and I hope to continue playing well and winning titles."

Every word Ange Postecoglou said on what happened in his altercation with Tottenham supporters

Ange Postecoglou has been speaking to the media following Tottenham's disappointing 1-0 defeat at Bournemouth in the Premier League on Thursday night.

Spurs continue to deal with a big injury list but it was their attacking players, with captain Son Heung-min on the bench, who struggled to create chances at the Vitality Stadium with only four shots on target and the defence conceded from a set piece with Dean Huijsen left completely unmarked to head in from a corner just 18 minutes into the encounter.

Tottenham had plenty of the ball, but it was the hosts who had the better chances in the second half with Fraser Forster called into action on a number of occasions and they had two efforts ruled out for offside. The visitors also lost Ben Davies to a hamstring injury during the second half.

After the game, the Tottenham players went over to the away fans and were given some vocal feedback from the disappointed supporters and Postecoglou then had a back and forth with them after receiving some choice words from the travelling Spurs faithful.

Here's every single word Postecoglou said in his press conference at the Vitality Stadium after he walked off the pitch and in to face the media.

What are your thoughts on the performance?

Very disappointing. We started the game well. Started the game the way we wanted to and started controlling it but we give away a poor goal, a really poor goal. Again. That allows the opposition to, and it is a difficult place to come to anyways, sit back and play the football they want. To counter-attack and we have to open up. It is disappointing and not good enough. It is not something that is a one off. We have done that now three or four times and paid a price for it.

You dominated possession but had only four shots on target?

Like I said, we started the game well but football is a game where you try to control it and dictate it to play the way you want to but when you give goals away like we did tonight, and we have done that consistently not just with set-pieces but just in general this year, it just gives the opportunity then for the opposition, particularly a team like Bournemouth, to play on the counter which is what they want to do. We have to open up. They can sit back. Just really disappointing it has happened again. Something for me to mull over and do something about.

You walked over to the fans and spoke to them, what happened?

They are disappointed, rightly so. They gave me some direct feedback which I guess is taken on board.

What did they say?

Yeah probably not for here mate.

Is this match down to tiredness because of the busy schedule?

I don’t know but again we need to be better in the way we deal with certain things. When you are coming to a place like Bournemouth the one thing you do know is it’s going to be a tough game with the conditions and the way they play, they sort of keep under control the whole time. But I thought we started well so to give them a goal is just, like I said, madness from us. Not just because it is a set-piece but because we have done that on a number of occasions this year with balls arriving in the box and we are paying a big price for it.

What about Ben Davies, how much of a blow is that?

It looks like he's done his hamstring. Him and Radu have played every game. It's the one position we can't rotate. He'll obviously be out for a period of time now, we'll just have to wait and see how long it is. It's a consequence of having the squad we have at the moment.

What do you put the lack of consistency down to?

We just don't have this real understanding of game state to know that just because we've started a game well, to allow the opposition the opportunity then to turn the tide and play the game on their terms. We've come from behind often and it's something that we've done really well but you can't, especially in a place like Bournemouth where it's going to be tough anyway with the conditions, you can't give them a goal like we did tonight. Because you're just going to work doubly hard to create opportunities, they're going to get more opportunities because we're going to have to open up. It turns it into a game that's impossible to control.

You've got Davies, Romero and Van de Ven out now, do you think you're going to have to dip into the transfer market in January?

Mate, it ain't going to help us against Chelsea on Sunday and that's all I'm thinking about.

Is that just part of the territory with the fans and the emotions, they seemed upset that you hadn't gone across and clapped them?

Look I guess so. I've got no issue with it. I didn't like what was being said because I'm a human being but you've got to cop it. I've been around long enough to know that if things don't go well, you've got to understand the frustration and disappointment. They're right disappointed tonight because again we've let a game of football get away from us. That's ok, I'm ok with all of that.

You've consistently said the fans need to feel what they want to feel, what's your message to them now?

Again that would be me trying to dictate how they feel. All I can say is I'm really disappointed with tonight and I'm determined to get it right and I'll keep fighting until we do.

Tottenham Hotspur have a tough run of fixtures around the corner after a 1-0 defeat against AFC Bournemouth on Thursday night.

Spurs got off to the worst possible start when Dean Huijsen was left unmarked from a corner to the back stick to give the Cherries the lead inside 20 minutes. Only Fraser Forster's quick reactions denied Bournemouth making it 2-0 on the brink of half-time as he denied Marcus Tavernier's header.

In the second half, Spurs looked more of a threat. Son Heung-min had the ball in the net but it was rightly ruled out for offside while James Maddison had a strike flash just wide of the far post. From there, Bournemouth hammered the Tottenham goal but were unable to find a second.

Eventually the one goal was enough for the hosts to keep the three points on the South Coast. Football.london has taken a closer look at what is to come for Spurs in their next five fixtures as they aim to bounce back.

December 22 vs Liverpool (H) at 4.30pm - Premier League

The verdict

It might be early in the season but these next five fixtures could decide whether Champions League or Europa League qualification is a more likely objective. Of course, the big one comes this weekend when Chelsea arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and revenge will be on the minds of Spurs even if Ange Postecoglou won't admit it.

The trip to Ibrox is bound to be difficult in the Europa League before facing struggling Southampton. United in the Carabao Cup is a good opportunity to rotate ahead of the very difficult home clash with Liverpool. Come out of this run with five points or more in the Premier League, a win in the Europa League and progression in the Carabao Cup, Tottenham will be delighted.

Ange Postecoglou is holding his press conference after Tottenham lost 1-0 at Bournemouth in the Premier League on Thursday.

The Australian made three changes to his starting XI from the side that drew with Fulham with captain Son Heung-min and Pedro Porro on the bench, with the quick turnaround in mind with Tottenham facing Chelsea in Sunday's derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Postecoglou was able to call upon former Cherries striker Dominic Solanke after his illness while Archie Gray was handed his first Premier League start and Dejan Kulusevski came back into the side after his rest against Fulham. Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, Richarlison, Wilson Odobert, Mikey Moore and the suspended Rodrigo Bentancur all remained out.

The away side started brightly but Bournemouth scored in the 18th minute when Dean Huijsen was left all alone to head in from a corner. Tottenham huffed and puffed but it was the hosts who had the better chances in the second half with Fraser Forster called into action on a number of occasions to send Spurs home with nothing.

Our Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold is among those putting the questions to Postecoglou after the game. Scroll down for the latest updates from the press conference at the Vitality Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur lost 1-0 Bournemouth in the Premier League on Thursday evening and we rated the Spurs players for their efforts.

Ange Postecoglou made three changes to his team with captain Son Heung-min on the bench, with Tottenham facing Chelsea again quickly after this game with Sunday's derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Postecoglou had former Cherries striker Dominic Solanke back from illness while Archie Gray was handed his first Premier League start to give Pedro Porro a rest and Dejan Kulusevski came back into the side after his rest against Fulham.

Here are our Tottenham player ratings:

Fraser Forster

Saved from Evanilson and Tavernier in the first half and made a couple of saves from Kluivert in the second half and a few more late on. Not much he could do for the powerful Huijsen header. 7

Archie Gray

The 18-year-old raced back to make a perfect sliding challenge on the breaking Kluivert in the first half. Switched to playing as the left centre-back after Davies went off. He gave everything in an unnatural role for him. 6

Radu Dragusin

Huijsen looked to be his man from the corner but he wandered away. Defended well mostly after that but it was a key moment and he switched off. 5

Ben Davies

Picked up an early yellow card in stopping a dangerous Bournemouth break. Defended well on the whole before getting what looked like a hamstring injury. 6

Destiny Udogie

Probably Spurs' best outfield player as he tried to make things happen down the left. 7

Pape Matar Sarr

One of his quieter performances and came off before the hour mark for Son. 5

Yves Bissouma

Picked up a first half yellow card but was one of Spurs' better players further up the pitch with the way he tried to break up Bournemouth's midfield play and his running with the ball. 6

James Maddison

His first time starting a Premier League game as captain for Spurs. Another game lacking in impact as he curled one effort wide in the second half but didn't contribute much else in terms of creativity. 4

Dejan Kulusevski

Back in the team and had the first shot of the match with an effort into Kepa's arms. One of his most disappointing performances. 4

Dominic Solanke

Fired over under pressure early in the game and sent a header wide from a corner later in the first half. Had so little to work with for much of the match. 4

Brennan Johnson

Another very quiet performance from the Wales international, both on the left and right. 3

Subs

Son Heung-min

Had the ball in the net soon after coming on but was well offside after Kulusevski's saved shot fell his way. Then set up Maddison for a chance. Moved into a number eight role after Werner came on. 5

Pedro Porro

Tested Kepa with a half-volley soon after coming on. 5

Timo Werner

Ran his defender but with no end product. 4

Lucas Bergvall

Came on as Spurs' number six and was one of the brightest things to happen for the visitors. He at least tried to make things happen and up the tempo. 6
