‘Phenomenal’ Tottenham player has ‘no desire to downgrade’ to Bayern Munich – report - teamtalk.com
Description

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany would love to sign Micky van de Ven from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2026, according to a German source, who has revealed whether the defender himself would be open to leaving Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the Allianz Arena.

Van de Ven has emerged as one of the best defenders in the Premier League, with the Tottenham star’s prime asset of pace lauded widely. With Spurs struggling under manager Thomas Frank, doubts have emerged on whether last season’s Europa League winners will be able to keep hold of the Netherlands international beyond the end of the season.

Bayern Munich have convinced Dayot Upamecano to sign a new contract, but a German source has revealed manager Vincent Kompany’s interest in him.

An X account with over 32,000 followers, Bayern Space, has claimed that Kompany would love to sign Van de Ven for the defending Bundesliga champions.

However, the account – which often provides insights into Bayern and was among the first to report Michael Olise’s release clause in his contract – has added that Van de Ven himself does not fancy leaving the Premier League for the Bundesliga, even for a club like Bayern.

Bayern Space, which has previously been praised by respected reporters like The Daily Mail’s Merseyside correspondent, Lewis Steele, made the claim about Bayern and Van de Ven ahead of Tottenham’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday.

The account wrote on X at 6:53pm on February 6: “Tottenham is facing Manchester United tomorrow, and from Bayern Munich’s perspective it is worth mentioning Micky van de Ven, who is seen internally as a phenomenal player and one Vincent Kompany rates very highly.

“However, there is a strong conviction that a deal is close to impossible.

“Van de Ven has no desire to downgrade from the Premier League to the Bundesliga, and Bayern are not in a position to meet Tottenham’s valuation, especially with the majority of available funds earmarked for an imminent Upamecano contract extension.”

Liverpool and Real Madrid want Micky van de Ven – sources

While Tottenham will be relieved to learn that Bayern will not be able to sign Van de Ven, the north London club will have to work hard to keep the defender out of the clutches of Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Both Madrid and Liverpool are on the hunt for a new and senior centre-back for next season and beyond.

While Jeremy Jacquet will move to Liverpool from Rennes in the summer of 2026, Ibrahima Konate is out of contract at the end of the season.

For Madrid, both Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba will become free agents in the summer, as things stand.

On December 10, 2025, our transfer insider, Dean Jones, reported that Real Madrid have Van de Ven on their radar as a possible signing in the summer of 2026.

Our transfer insider, Graeme Bailey, revealed on January 22, 2026, interest from Liverpool in Van de Ven.

Sources have told us that Tottenham want to hand the Dutchman a new contract that will see his wages double from £90,000 per week to £180,000 a week.

We also understand that Tottenham want at least £100million (€115.1m, $136.1m) for Van de Ven.

Barcelona ready to launch stunning move for Tottenham star who’s desperate to leave – report - teamtalk.com
Description

Barcelona are reportedly planning an audacious move for Tottenham captain Cristian Romero, who is ready to call time on his career in London at the end of this season, per reports.

The 27-year-old centre-back has cut a frustrated figure amid Spurs’ disastrous Premier League form under Thomas Frank, and the defender received a red card in their 2-0 loss to Manchester United on Friday.

Romero recently aimed a veiled dig at Tottenham’s hierarchy for failing to bring in adequate reinforcements in the January window, and now reports suggest that he wants to take on a new challenge after this season.

According to Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are both seriously considering a move for Romero this summer.

The defender is set to have a ‘very busy summer’, and it is likely to ‘involve a move to LaLiga,’ per the report. Barcelona are keen to add to their centre-back options, while Diego Simeone is ‘the biggest advocate’ for Romero’s signing at Atletico.

Real Madrid have also been heavily linked with Romero in recent months, and they would be another club to watch should he look to leave Spurs.

Romero’s contract with Tottenham runs until 2029, as the player signed an extension last summer, and the London side would no doubt demand a huge fee for his signature.

Tottenham to demand record-breaking Romero fee

TEAMtalk transfer correspondent Fraser Fletcher revealed on February 4 that Barcelona do view Romero as a ‘serious’ target, while Atletico boss Simeone is indeed a huge admirer.

However, Spurs absolutely no intention of letting their captain leave on the cheap.

We understand that Tottenham will command a substantial fee, with previous suggested valuations in the region of £70-£80 million (up to €92.7m, $109.5m).

That would be a record fee paid for an Argentine defender, with Lisandro Martinez currently holding that status following his £57million (€66m, $78m) move to Manchester United from Ajax in the summer of 2022.

Barcelona’s financial struggles are well-documented, so they would likely need to make some significant sales before they can afford to sign Romero.

Atletico could also need to sell stars first, and that’s one of the reasons why a big-money Julian Alvarez sale to Arsenal or Chelsea could make sense.

Romero has made 21 Premier League appearances for Tottenham this season, notching four goals in the process, so he would be very difficult to replace should he leave this summer.

But with at least two European giants circling, bids are expected in the coming months.

Tottenham news: Striker plan emerges with 'little intention' of sealing summer swoop

Tottenham striker plan emerges with ‘little intention’ of sealing summer swoop - teamtalk.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur and Randal Kolo Muani look destined to go their separate ways, with sources telling TEAMtalk that the club have “little intention” of making the Frenchman’s stay permanent – a stance that played a major role in his desire to leave during the January window.

Juventus pushed hard to re‑sign the 27‑year‑old last month and remain the most likely destination for him at the end of the season.

The Serie A giants have maintained contact throughout, convinced that Kolo Muani’s future lies away from north London.

The forward himself has long believed he has no long‑term place at Spurs, and the club’s handling of the situation has done little to change that perception. Tottenham were, in theory, open to letting him depart in January, but no viable move materialised.

With a World Cup looming, Kolo Muani is increasingly anxious about his prospects of making Didier Deschamps’s final squad. To force his way in, he knows he must deliver in a Spurs shirt – something that has eluded him so far.

The numbers tell the story. Kolo Muani is still waiting for his first Premier League goal or assist after 17 appearances, though his Champions League form has been more encouraging, with three goals and two assists in Europe.

Regardless of how the remainder of the campaign unfolds, TEAMtalk understands he will return to parent club Paris Saint‑Germain this summer, where he still has two years left on his current deal.

Juventus, however, are already positioning themselves to strike.

More Tottenham news: McTominay chase, Poch wants return

Tottenham and north London rivals Arsenal are being tipped to go head-to-head for an elite Serie A midfielder this summer, despite a switch back to the Premier League looking increasingly unlikely to happen.

Elsewhere, Spurs have learned that they could ‘entice’ 116-goal striker Dusan Vlahovic to join them in the summer transfer window at the end of his ‘strange’ situation, but they face competition from Chelsea – and a third Premier League club whose chances hinge on a challenging condition that Spurs will have to be wary of too, according to another report.

Italian reports reveal mega Tottenham, Arsenal showdown for elite Serie A midfielder

Italian reports reveal mega Tottenham, Arsenal showdown for elite Serie A midfielder - teamtalk.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur and north London rivals Arsenal are being tipped to go head-to-head for an elite Serie A midfielder this summer, despite a switch back to the Premier League looking increasingly unlikely to happen.

For his part, under-pressure Spurs boss Thomas Frank has not been completely satisfied with the options available to him in the middle of the park, leading to the club moving for Conor Gallagher in the winter window.

Tottenham have also been hit hard by injuries in their engine room, with Rodrigo Bentancur ruled out for some time and No.10s Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison not playing a game all season long.

There is also a feeling that the current Spurs squad lacks experience, with Ben Davies and Joao Palhinha the only players aged 30 or over, something they are also looking at rectifying this summer.

One player who has been heavily linked with a switch to the Premier League is 31-year-old Bayern Munich and Germany star Leon Goretzka, who is firmly on the radars of the likes of Spurs, Liverpool and Arsenal.

However, fresh reports from Italy claim that Tottenham and Arsenal are ready to battle it out for Napoli’s Scott McTominay, who will hit the 30 mark later in the year, and already has a ton of Premier League experience from his time at Manchester United.

The Scotland star has transformed his game in Naples, becoming one of the best goalscoring midfielders in Italian football as he helped Antonio Conte’s side to the Scudetto last season, and his stock has continued to grow over the course of the current campaign.

Tottenham, Arsenal watching McTimninay closely

A report in AreaNapoli states that Tottenham are indeed big fans of McTominay and have continued to monitor his progress, although they claim that a battle with Arsenal is looking on that front.

Additionally, it is suggested that Man United could look to take the 29-year-old back to Old Trafford, with our sources previously revealing how the club are looking to fix what’s deemed a major transfer blunder.

However, the AreaNapoli report adds that the Serie A outfit are ‘aware of the growing interest from the Premier League’ in their midfielder and they are ‘keen to tie him down to a new contract’.

Indeed, they are expected to meet with McTominay’s agent to finalise the renewal at the end of the season, as they look to build their squad around one of their top stars.

It’s also reported that only an offer approaching €100m (£86.8m) would be good enough to tempt Napoli into a sale.

That sort of figure could be out of Tottenham’s reach, despite talk that the club are ready to splash the cash this summer, while Arsenal are unlikely to spend that much on an area of their team which is already incredibly strong.

More Tottenham news: Striker signing hope; truths over defensive trio

Tottenham have learned that they could ‘entice’ a 116-goal striker to join them in the summer transfer window at the end of his ‘strange’ situation, but they face competition from Chelsea – and a third Premier League club.

What next for Romero, Van de Ven and Vuskovic as Tottenham eye four centre-back targets? - teamtalk.com
Description

Tottenham Hotspur sources are adamant there is no looming defensive crisis, despite growing noise around the futures of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Luka Vuskovic, TEAMtalk has been informed.

The club accepts that speculation is not going away, but insist the situation looks far more stable from the inside than it does from the outside.

Romero’s position is described as non‑negotiable. He signed a major long‑term deal last summer, and while his recent public frustration over squad depth irritated senior figures, Spurs are said to be completely unmoved by the idea that he could force an exit.

Those close to the situation stress that the scale of the club’s commitment to him means he “will not” be allowed to engineer a departure.

Van de Ven is viewed with similar confidence. My colleague Dean Jones has named him as an option for Liverpool, but Tottenham point to the more than three years left on his contract and acknowledge his rapid rise into one of Europe’s most impressive defenders.

His progress has been so significant that Spurs are prepared to elevate him to the same wage bracket as Romero and Conor Gallagher. The hope is that fresh terms can be agreed before the summer, though the final decision naturally rests with the player.

Vuskovic is arguably the most delicate case. The Croatian teenager has excelled on loan at Hamburg, and Bayern Munich are pushing hard to tempt him to the Allianz Arena. He is understood to be weighing up his options and is fully aware of Bayern’s pull.

Even so, Tottenham insist the final call will be theirs, not his, and maintain that – right now – they expect all three centre‑halves to begin next season in north London. Whether that stance survives the summer remains to be seen.

Long‑term planning continues regardless. Spurs are already working on 2026 recruitment and have eyes on the likes of Murillo (Nottingham Forest), Antonio Silva (Benfica), Joel Ordonez (Club Brugge) and Charlie Cresswell (Toulouse) to name a few of the players they have been looking at.

The club is adamant this is not contingency planning for potential departures, but part of an existing strategy to add another centre‑back in that window.

‘Disaster’ – Cristian Romero destroyed by former Tottenham captain after latest red card

‘Disaster’ – Cristian Romero destroyed by former Tottenham captain after latest red card - teamtalk.com
Description

Michael Dawson has slammed Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero after he picked up yet another red card during the defeat to Manchester United on Saturday.

Romero is one of Tottenham’s biggest stars, but his disciplinary record is woeful. He has the joint-most yellow cards in the Premier League this season with eight, and has become the first player to be sent off twice.

At Old Trafford, Tottenham were once again left playing with 10 men as Romero dangerously caught Casemiro on the ankle with his studs when tackling the Brazilian midfielder.

The centre-back had done well to win the ball but stupidly followed through with his tackle, forcing the referee to show the red card.

It is Romero’s sixth red card for Spurs, piling the pressure on manager Thomas Frank. To make matters worse for the Argentinian, he caused controversy earlier this week by saying it was ‘unbelievable and disgraceful’ that Spurs only had 11 players available in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

On Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday, ex-Spurs captain Dawson criticised Romero by saying: “It’s an absolute nightmare for Thomas Frank. This is a disaster; a disaster for Thomas Frank. It really, really is.

“He’ll be thinking, ‘what is happening here?’ You’re a manager, your team is sitting in 14th, you’re in a tricky position, and your captain’s come out and said these things in the media, thinking it couldn’t get any worse for him… but now he goes and leaves your team down to 10 men.

“I’m just baffled at this situation, because he’s a captain and is supposed to lead by example, and you leave your team vulnerable, 10 men, Old Trafford, against a team that’s in fine form, and it’s a long way back, and you’re losing your captain to a red card.

“And he’s also one of your best players – let’s not get away from that fact – but Romero has let his team down again, badly, today.”

Romero, Van De Ven picking up interest

Spurs went behind nine minutes after Romero’s dismissal when Bryan Mbeumo finished off a well-worked United corner. Bruno Fernandes later doubled United’s lead as Spurs were easily beaten.

This summer might be the perfect time for Spurs to cash in on Romero, despite his clear talent.

We revealed on Thursday that Spurs are bracing themselves for a summer showdown to keep the 27-year-old amid strong interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

There is also speculation his centre-back partner Micky van de Ven could leave. Our sources state that Liverpool have identified Van De Ven as a possible replacement for Ibrahima Konate, in case the latter joins Madrid on a free transfer.

Liverpool would be prepared to move for an experienced centre-back this summer should Ibrahima Konate leave the club, despite recently completing a deal for highly-rated defender Jeremy Jacquet.

The Reds have secured Jacquet with the expectation that he will be part of the first-team picture next season – rather than eased in as a long-term project. However, sources close to the club are adamant that Liverpool would be willing to return to the market immediately if Konate’s situation takes serious shape in the direction of Spain.

The France international is once again being linked with a move to Real Madrid and has yet to agree a new contract at Anfield.

With his current deal running down, Konate would be eligible to leave on a free transfer, something Liverpool are keen to avoid but have been cautious of.

Madrid’s list of elite free-agent centre-back options has shortened significantly. Dayot Upamecano, long admired by the Spanish giants, has signed a new contract at Bayern Munich, while Marc Guehi has completed a move to Manchester City.

Those developments have seemed to further sharpen Madrid’s focus on Konate, increasing the likelihood of Liverpool needing to act decisively in the market.

While Jacquet’s arrival will add depth and long-term upside, Liverpool would not yet see him as a direct replacement for Konate’s experience at the top level. As a result, the club would prioritise a proven option.

We understand Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven remains very much on Liverpool’s radar in that scenario.

The Dutch international is believed to be among the players Liverpool would seriously consider.

We revealed on Thursday that Spurs are bracing themselves for a summer showdown as they try to keep Van De Ven’s centre-back partner Cristian Romero.

Speculation Romero could leave north London this summer has ramped up after he appeared to criticise the Spurs hierarchy on social media once again. Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid have all been linked with the Argentine.

Liverpool star’s ‘representatives’ in ‘talks’ with Celtic ‘bosses’ – report - teamtalk.com
Description

Liverpool left-back Andy Roberson’s agents are in talks with Celtic over a move to Celtic Park in the summer of 2026, according to a report, as TEAMtalk reveals Fenway Sports Group’s (FSG) plan regarding the Scottish star, with Tottenham Hotspur still keen on him.

Robertson was close to a move to Tottenham from Liverpool in the winter transfer window. Liverpool were willing to sell the Scottish left-back to last season’s Europa League winners for £5million (€5.7m, $7m).

The Scotland international himself was willing to swap Anfield for Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Liverpool eventually pulled the plug on the deal following the injury to Joe Gomez.

TEAMtalk’s transfer correspondent, Fraser Fletcher, has since reported that Tottenham remain keen on a 2026 summer deal for Robertson, whose current contract with Liverpool runs out at the end of the season.

Sources have told us that Celtic are also keen on securing the services of the 31-year-old on a free transfer.

Robertson was at Celtic as a youth player, but he failed to make it through to the first team.

Celtic will be able to offer Robertson good wages, especially as the defending Scottish Premiership champions would not have to pay any transfer fee for him.

Sports Boom has now reported that Robertson’s agents are in talks with Celtic officials over a move to Celtic Park as a free agent in the summer of 2026.

The report has claimed that ‘talks have already begun between Robertson’s representatives and bosses at Parkhead’, adding that ‘a return to Scotland is increasingly likely after this summer’s World Cup in North America’.

Liverpool plan for Andy Robertson – sources

While Celtic will fancy their chances of signing Robertson, we understand that Liverpool have plans to hand him a new deal and stop him leaving Anfield.

Sources have told our transfer correspondent, Fraser Fletcher, that Liverpool are considering handing Robertson a one-year or two-year contract.

We understand that Liverpool value the former Hull City defender’s leadership.

Even though Robertson is not the first-choice left-back under manager Arne Slot, Liverpool still view him as an integral part of the team and want to keep him at Anfield for at least one more year.

Tottenham Hotspur explored a move for Juventus star Kenan Yildiz, TEAMtalk understands, but the north London club believe that they will not be able to secure his services.

Sources have told TEAMtalk that Tottenham looked into a deal for Yildiz, but last season’s Europa League winners have accepted that their ambitious attempt to land the 20-year-old Turkey international attacker is over.

Spurs contemplated a move for the Juventus star in the January transfer window as his contract talks in Italy dragged on.

We reported during the winter window that Juventus sources were adamant a move would not open up as their plans to keep Yildiz on board were still alive.

While their initial plans to sign him to a new deal by the end of 2025 did not come to life, the Serie A club pushed it back so that they could completely focus on the new deal once the January window closed.

We are now reaching a point where Juventus are closing in on a contract for Yildiz – who had also been tracked by Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea – with an extension expected to 2031.

Yildiz’s preference has always been to remain at Juventus, and it is a significant moment for the Serie A outfit, who will also aim to make a splash in the summer of 2026.

Current Premier League stars – Sandro Tonali (Newcastle United) and Randal Kolo Muani (on loan at Tottenham Hotspur from Paris Saint-Germain) are both on the radar of Juventus.

Yildiz is a versatile attacking player who can operate as a left-winger, second striker, centre-forward and attacking midfield.

The youngster has scored nine goals and given eight assists in 31 appearances for Juventus so far this season.

Yildiz is so highly rated that he has been tipped to win the Ballon d’Or in the future.

Former Manchester United and Italy international forward Giuseppe Rossi told TuttoMercatoWeb on October 1: “A super Yildiz.

“The Turk is a phenomenon and will be a Ballon d’Or winner in the future: he’s 20, but he plays like a 30-year-old with a 100 Champions League appearances.

“I have a soft spot for his ability to attempt a beautiful play for the good of the team, not just for the applause.

“Juventus is Yildiz plus 10 others; in terms of impact, he’s a bit like the Lamine Yamal of the Bianconeri.”

Pochettino says YES to spectacular Tottenham return as Frank sack looms; likely interim boss revealed - teamtalk.com
Description

In a major development, TEAMtalk can reveal that Mauricio Pochettino would unequivocally accept a return to Tottenham if offered the role following the World Cup, as sources shed light on the precarious position of current boss Thomas Frank.

Frank, who took the reins at Tottenham in a move from Brentford last summer, has overseen a disappointing season.

Spurs currently sit 14th in the Premier League table, far from the Champions League spots they covet. With a gruelling fixture list looming – including clashes against Manchester United, Newcastle and Arsenal – the board’s patience is wearing thin, even after a creditable 2-2 draw with Manchester City last time out.

Insiders suggest that poor results could precipitate Frank’s sacking, paving the way for an interim appointment. Johnny Heitinga, already embedded in the coaching staff, has now emerged as the frontrunner to steady the ship until summer.

The rationale behind retaining Frank amid the turmoil? Tottenham’s hierarchy is playing the long game, eyeing superior managerial options post-World Cup.

Pochettino, set to take the United States national team through the tournament, tops that list. Despite interest from Manchester United, where he remains on their radar as a potential successor in their own manager hunt, Pochettino’s deep affection for Spurs is said to be unshakeable.

A sense of unfinished business – after his abrupt 2019 departure despite leading the club to a Champions League final – fuels this narrative. “For Poch, Spurs is a pull that’s too strong to ignore” one source confided.

Tottenham eyeing spectacular rebuild under Pochettino

Looking ahead, Tottenham are gearing up for a transformative summer transfer window. Substantial investment is planned to rebuild the squad, but attracting top talent hinges on the dugout’s occupant.

Pochettino’s proven track record in nurturing stars like Harry Kane and Son Heung-min positions him as a magnet for elite players, far surpassing Frank’s appeal in the eyes of the board.

As the World Cup drama unfolds, Spurs fans dream of a Pochettino renaissance.

Could this be the catalyst for a return to glory? Only time will tell, but the whispers from the corridors of Tottenham suggest a blockbuster reunion is on the cards.

Latest Tottenham news: Mikey Moore update / Striker deal agreed

Meanwhile, yesterday, we revealed Rangers’ chances of re-signing Tottenham star Mikey Moore on loan again next season.

Moore, 18, struggled with Rangers initially this season but his form has completely turned that around recently, with a string of excellent performances.
