This weekend sees us make the short trip across the capital to take on the newly-promoted side at Selhurst Park as we look to maintain our unbeaten start to the campaign.

Showcasing a performance full of fight and determination to come away with a point at Liverpool last time out, the squad were back on the pitch to work towards the London derby and full focus against a Palace side who had put in an impressive display to hold Arsenal to a goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium.

It might have been a different story in this third round tie at Anfield.

We started brightly again and were denied the opener when Giorgi Mamardashvili produced the first of two world-class saves on the night to deny Lucas Bergvall.

Liverpool then forged ahead via impressive finishes from Alexis Mac Allister (21 minutes) and Cody Gakpo (54) before Conor Gallagher headed home Mateus Fernandes’ corner on 69 minutes for 2-1.

That prompted our best spell, Mamardashvili kept out Mo Kudus – his first start since January – and then the Georgia international somehow managed to tip over from Omar Marmoush in what looked like a certain equaliser with four minutes remaining.

Instead of 2-2, Dominik Szoboszlai hit a screamer into the top corner from 30 yards to put the game beyond our reach at 3-1 in added time – we ended with 17 efforts at goal to Liverpool’s 12.

“We have to be stronger,” reflected Roberto. “I think last season was a school. I think it has to be a school for everyone. Now we are unlucky, because it's clear we have to improve many, many things, but also this night we played well, we created more chances, we shot more times, we got more corners than Liverpool. We could score more goals.

“I remember six, seven clear chances to score. Lucas Bergvall, Kudus and Udogie. In the second half, a couple with Marmoush, one Savio, one Bergvall, another corner. I can't say nothing today.

"Now, my focus is on Villa and we have to prepare our best in the next game with this mentality to find this click.

“We are suffering because the results are our life, no? If we lose, we are sorry, we are sad, we are disappointed, we are frustrated. It's tough, no? But it's the first moment, the first part of this new project. I think when we make the click... but the click is not mentality, because today we showed the right mentality, the right behaviour and we played until the end of the game. I think we are going to win many games and score many goals.”

Here's what he had to say...

It was a strange game, you had 17 shots on goal, was it just a case of Liverpool being able to put the ball in the net?

Roberto: "We have to shoot more times, we have to shoot better, we have to finish better in a clear situation. We are sorry for the result, disappointed, frustrated for the result, I think it's unfair. But we have to accept and be stronger than this unlucky moment because I'm honest with myself and I'm honest with you. I think in these five, six games we have been, for sure, not lucky with Newcastle, with Everton, even with Nottingham and tonight as well. We have to improve a lot of things because the first goal we conceded we didn't defend in the right way. In the second goal we could have been closer with Gakpo, but we have to understand if we are in the right way or not. I think watching the game, the last three, four games, maybe until the 60th minute with Newcastle, I think we are in the right way. I believe in my players, I have a big confidence, a big opinion of my players, and when we arrive to find the click, win a game, I think we enjoy with these players because the qualities of the players are incredible - have a look at Marmoush, Savio, Kudus, Lucas Bergvall, Mateus Fernandes, Robertson, don't forget Pedro Porro, Solanke... Solanke top, he's a good player. It's a tough moment, but we have to be stronger to prepare our best for the next game with Aston Villa and to find this click."

Do you think based on tonight's performance that you are moving in the right direction towards that big click moment?

Roberto: "I don't know if the click is Saturday or not, but we have to find, in Italian La Scintilla (the spark) because we have the qualities enough to score many goals with these players."

There were a few times in the first half where through passes weren't being played - is that where you need James Maddison, who looked quite sharp today?

Roberto: "For sure, Maddison is a different player, a special player, but he has to be fit, he has to be in the right physical condition because the Premier League intensity, even this night, is incredible. Then we can play with eight attackers, also the goalkeeper."

What did you make of your goalkeeper today?

Roberto: "Good, he's a good guy, a good goalkeeper. I'm sorry, it's my responsibility because maybe in the middle of the first half we didn't recognise the clear situation, man to man, and we had to do totally different than play close, close, close and short, but it's a process, it's the first game, it was the first game for Dubravka and in the second half he played very well."

Will you have Pedro Porro back for the weekend?

Roberto: "Yes."

Kudus? It was his first start since January...

Roberto: "Kudus is more great news for us, I think, because he can play also number 10 and we can play with Savio, Koulos, Solanke and Marmoush."

On loan at 1. FC Köln for the rest of the 2026/27 campaign, our young winger made a bright start to life in Germany with a dazzling substitute appearance.

Introduced at the start of the second half as Köln trailed 1-0 away at VfB Stuttgart, Mikey was electric at the MHP Arena and at the heart of every attack from Die Geißböcke.

In the end, it was a bruising evening for Mikey's new side, with them eventually falling to a 4-1 defeat but that was not before our Academy graduate bagged an assist for Köln's only goal.

Linking up with former Manchester City forward Reigan Heskey down the left, the winger reached the byline before hooking the ball back and across the line.it was met by defender Ramon Hendriks, but he could only send it past his own goalkeeper.

Köln currently sit 11th in the Bundesliga with two games played.

Best of Spurs

Micky Van de Ven (£5.0m) was our top FPL points scorer in Gameweek 3, registering the four points for the clean sheet as well as all three bonus points for a nine-point return.

Our captain was also ever so close to receiving the additional two points for defensive contributions. Defenders need to register 10 defensive contributions in a game to unlock the additional two points, and against Forest, he registered nine as well as having two attempts on goal in Gameweek 4, which increases his FPL appeal.

Micky has a great record against Everton too, having returned in each of his last three matches against the Toffees, including a 23-point haul in Gameweek 9 last season.

He is the player across the league with the best record against the club they play in Gameweek 4, averaging 9.75 points per start against David Moyes' side.

Jan Paul van Hecke (£5.0m), Pedro Porro (£5.5m), Antonin Kinsky (£4.5m) and Destiny Udogie (£4.5m) also registered clean sheet points in this fixture.

JP registered eight points in total, courtesy of the clean sheet and two bonus points, while Pedro had a seven-point return for the clean sheet and one bonus point. Toni and Destiny registered six points and five points respectively.

Rodrigo Bentancur (£5.5m) also impressed, registering a remarkable 17 defensive contributions in this fixture. Midfielders need 12 defensive contributions to achieve the additional two points, which Rodrigo managed comfortably thanks to nine clearances, two interceptions, five ball recoveries and a successful tackle.

Spotlight: Savio

Savio made his first start for us in the Premier League against Forest, and his underlying numbers suggest that he is about to become a popular pick in FPL.

At the City Ground last weekend, he had one attempt on goal as well as creating a chance and supplying two crosses for his teammates.

Our new number 17 had more touches in the final third than any other Spurs player in Gameweek 3, and he also received the most passes in the final third across the Spurs team.

Savio was also directly involved in 25 per cent of the chances that we created when he was on the pitch.

Spurs’ most popular FPL asset

Goalkeeper Toni is proving popular with FPL managers ahead of Gameweek 4’s home match against Everton, after the 23-year-old registered his first clean sheet of the season in the league in Gameweek 3.

Across the season so far, Toni has faced 11 on-target shots and made six saves, and was awarded a save point in Gameweek 1 for making five saves.

Despite being at the opposite end of the pitch, he is one of only two goalkeepers in the league to have created an attacking chance for his teammates.

Over 50,000 managers have transferred in Toni ahead of Gameweek 4, and he is currently owned by 18.7 per cent of managers.

Hidden Gem

Brighton’s Diego Gomez (£5.0m) faces Coventry City in Gameweek 4 and is currently only found in 4.9 per cent of FPL teams. The midfielder has registered two assists and a clean sheet point so far this season, and has created five chances for his Brighton teammates, as well as having a team-leading 12 shots.

Following our opening day victory over West Ham United, our campaign heads on the road as we face Liverpool at St Helens Stadium on Sunday (2pm UK) for our first away trip of the season.

Gareth Taylor’s side also kicked off their 2026/27 season with three points after a 4-0 victory over newcomers Charlton Athletic with one of their summer signings, Vivien Endemann, impressing on her WSL debut.

Grace Fisk

After the first round of fixtures for the 2026/27 WSL campaign, defender Grace Fisk is the joint-leading goalscorer in the competition after her brace against Charlton Athletic in their season opener. Although her first goal was a more typical striker’s finish, in the right place at the right time to tap home from close range, the defender’s second was certainly more delightful, curling home from the edge of the box and into the top corner. Appointed captain ahead of the 2025/26 season, she made seven clearances, at the other end, also winning five of her aerial duels to ensure her side preserved a clean sheet at The Valley.

Vivien Endemann

Snapped up from VfL Wolfsburg after excelling in Germany with six goals and five assists last term, the young forward made the switch to the WSL this summer and has already got off to the perfect start as a Red. Teeing up Fisk for her second strike, the Germany international opened her account on her debut with a thumping strike into the roof of the net at the near post, giving the league a small taste of what to expect this season. It wasn’t just the goals and assists that caught eye, with the 25-year-old also creating the most chances (four) and completed the joint-most dribbles (three). One of her strongest assets in her game is her versatility to play as a central strike, a second forward and right forward to allow Gareth Taylor to use her in multiple set-ups throughout the game.

Ceri Holland

Since arriving on Merseyside in 2021, Ceri Holland has gone on to establish herself as a key figure at Liverpool and has since surpassed a century of appearances for the club. The Wales international has especially thrived under the guidance of Gareth Taylor since his arrival in August, 2025, specifically in a new forward position out wide, scoring four times and registering eight assists, and subsequently won Liverpool’s Players’ Player of the Year award. Once again, operating in a different position compared to last term as a central midfielder, Holland created the joint-most chances (four) in their season opener win over Charlton Athletic last weekend.

Together Against Suicide uses the platform of the Premier League and its clubs to highlight suicide prevention support and raise awareness of information and expertise to those who need it most

Dedicated Mental Health Officers from Spurs in the Community will be available to fans via a confidential text service at all matches held at the stadium this season

The Club today unveiled a suicide prevention bench on Park Lane Square through our former midfielder Micky Hazard’s Legend on the Bench project

The bench is dedicated to the memory of Spurs fan Joe Lyons, who took his own life in 2020

Together Against Suicide is a Premier League initiative, delivered in partnership with Samaritans, to support fans affected by suicide or suicidal thoughts, helping raise awareness of the information and expertise available to those who need it most. All 20 Premier League clubs have committed to supporting the initiative this season, following a pilot project last season in which our Club participated.

Every 90 minutes someone in the UK takes their own life, and one in four people will experience suicidal thoughts in their lifetime. Together Against Suicide uses the platform of the Premier League and its clubs to bring people together, reduce stigma and highlight suicide prevention support.

Two fully-trained Mental Health Officers from Spurs in the Community will be present at all matches held at the Stadium this season, beginning with this Saturday’s Premier League match against Everton. The officers will be located within the South Stand and proactively reaching out to supporters, offering advice and resources, while also reachable via a text service (07860 078 900) to meet confidentially with anyone, anywhere in the stadium, who requires support on the day. Free support is also available 24/7 by calling Samaritans on 116 123.

Last season, our matchday support service made two direct life-saving interventions with supporters, while referring many more to the wide range of external support services on offer.

As an additional way of supporting our fans, the Club has today installed a suicide prevention bench outside the South Stand on Park Lane Square through Legend on the Bench, a project set up by our former midfielder Micky Hazard.

The bench is dedicated to the memory of Spurs fan Joe Lyons, who sadly took his own life in 2020. Joe was a close friend of broadcaster Roman Kemp, the co-creator of Together Against Suicide alongside our own CEO, Vinai Venkatesham.

Louisa Lyons, Joe’s sister, said: "Joe was the life of every party - he left a lasting impact on everyone he met just from a first encounter. He was a genius in his own right and never failed to make someone laugh with his cheeky ways. On 4th August 2020, Joe tragically and unexpectedly took his life. We had no idea how much Joe was struggling and how he felt this was his only option. As now a family of three, through the pain of losing Joe, we set up Joe's Buddy Line Charity: A mental health charity promoting and protecting the mental health of young people. Everything we are doing, we do for Joe, in the hope that no-one ever feels like this is the only way out. There is hope and things can get better. This bench is an incredible lasting legacy for Joe, especially as he has always been an avid Spurs supporter. I hope that anyone who sits on this bench learns about Joe, about how incredible he was - but also that if they're struggling, there are people here to help. Please stay, don't go."

Legend on the Bench was founded by Micky and his sister, Michelle - whose son Jay also tragically took his own life aged just 23 - with a mission to install suicide prevention benches in every local park or open space in the UK.

Each bench is equipped with a solar-powered light which keeps it illuminated through the darkness of night as a beacon of hope for anyone who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts. The benches carry the poignant message that ‘Someone Is Always Listening’, along with a number of helpline numbers, including Samaritans.

Micky Hazard said: “Tottenham Hotspur has been a huge part of my life for 52 years. It’s given me memories, friendships, pride and a sense of belonging that is very difficult to put into words. But to stand at the club I have loved for more than half a century and unveil a suicide prevention bench - a bench that could save lives - is simply the greatest feeling ever.

“I’m incredibly proud and if just one person sits here on their darkest day, feels that they are not alone and finds the strength to take another step forward, then this bench will have done something truly remarkable.

“Football has the power to change lives on the pitch. Together, I believe it can help save lives off it too. And to see Spurs right at the forefront of the Together Against Suicide campaign is simply amazing.”

Vinai Venkatesham, Chief Executive Officer, Tottenham Hotspur, said: “The purpose of Together Against Suicide is to raise awareness of the prevalence of suicide, to de-stigmatise talking about it, to encourage those in need to speak to someone - which significantly decreases the likelihood of a suicide attempt - and to provide practical means to have that first conversation on matchdays.

“I’d like to thank the Premier League and all 20 clubs for committing to providing matchday support for fans this season, and Roman Kemp for coming up with the original idea that became Together Against Suicide.
