Description

Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola said Wednesday's Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur could be Antoine Semenyo's last for the club as reports suggest the forward is nearing a move to Manchester City. There has been increasing speculation over Semenyo's Bournemouth future following a strong start to the 2025/26 campaign but Iraola said that so far there is "nothing signed".

Antoine Semenyo could make his final appearance for Bournemouth against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, Andoni Iraola said.

Semenyo is reportedly nearing the completion of a move to Manchester City, with the forward's release clause said to be valued at just under £65 million.

Despite widespread speculation over his future on the south coast, Semenyo started and played the full 90 minutes in Bournemouth's 3-2 defeat to Arsenal on January 3.

Iraola confirmed Semenyo "will play" against Spurs, and despite saying a move has not yet been completed for the Ghana international, the head coach feels the forward will be making his last appearance for the club.

"I can give you my opinion, from my experience, but there is nothing signed with Antoine Semenyo," Iraola said in his pre-match news conference.

"If you ask me personally 'what do you think', with all the noise and this, I think it could be the last game.

"But I cannot guarantee it. It’s my personal opinion. I understand the market, I understand the noise.

"But right now, there is nothing agreed, nothing signed. He’s our player, I hope he continues. But my understanding, because I’ve been in the market before, in this club and others, it’s a chance it’s his last game."

Iraola praised Semenyo's conduct amid the speculation. "I think he has been very professional," Iraola said. "He has dealt with this situation, whatever happens, I think very well. He's always been ready to play, to give everything.

Chelsea appoint Rosenior as new head coach until 2032

McFarlane: Rosenior 'inspirational' for young English coaches

"And I want him to play very well tomorrow and let's see what happens later. But I can only speak very well about him personally and professionally. And his commitment has never really been in doubt."

Semenyo has been a pivotal figure for Bournemouth in their success under Iraola. He recorded 13 goals and seven assists in 42 appearances in all competitions last season and already has nine goals and three assists in 20 matches this season.

The 25-year-old's form has seen him attract interest from not only City but also Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool - according to reports.

Iraola added that Semenyo is "almost impossible to replace," with their situation worsened by Justin Kluivert undergoing surgery on a left knee injury he sustained against Arsenal.

Bournemouth are 15th and winless in 11 matches heading into Wednesday's clash, with Spurs head coach Thomas Frank under mounting pressure.

Tottenham Women sign 'technically gifted' Hamano on loan from London rivals Chelsea - TNT Sports
Description

Tottenham Hotspur Women have boosted their squad ahead of the second half of the season with the signing of Maika Hamano on a loan deal until the end of the season. The Japan international's arrival was hailed by Spurs boss Martin Ho, as the north Londoners look to push on after an impressive first half of the season. Spurs play their first match of 2026 against Leicester City on January 11.

Maika Hamano will leave Chelsea to join Tottenham Hotspur on loan for the remainder of the season.

Hamano has made eight appearances this season, scoring two goals and two assists, finding the net in a 2-1 opening day win over Manchester City.

The 21-year-old also scored six goals and registered three assists across 16 starts in 2024/25, as The Blues won a treble of Women’s Super League, FA Cup and League Cup.

Hamano told the Tottenham website: "Watching the team this season, I really felt they’ve been playing some great football and I thought if I joined this team, I could develop a lot as a player.

"I want to show fans the connection with my team-mates and exciting plays. At the end of the day, football is about winning, and I’ll do my best to contribute to the team’s success."

Spurs head coach Martin Ho added: "We are pleased to welcome Maika to Tottenham Hotspur. Maika is a technically gifted and intelligent attacking player who brings creativity, movement, and composure in the final third.

"She has experience at the highest level and will add quality and depth to our attacking options.

"This is a good opportunity for Maika to continue her development in a demanding environment, and we are looking forward to working with her for the remainder of the season."

Hamano already has extensive pedigree in the game, beginning her career at Cerezo Osaka Sakai, ahead of making the move to top-flight side INAC Kobe Leonessa at the tender age of 17 in 2021.

She would go on to win the Japanese title there before making the move to Chelsea in January 2023.

A loan move to Swedish side Hammarby followed, where Hamano scored seven goals in 17 league appearances.

The attacker made her WSL debut for Chelsea in a 3-0 win over Bristol City in December 2023, scoring her first goal in the English top flight against Aston Villa four months later.

On the international scene, Hamano was included in Japan's squads for the 2023 Women's World Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

This came before success at the 2025 SheBelievesCup, playing alongside current Tottenham defender Toko Koga.

Crystal Palace sign Johnson from Spurs - TNT Sports

Crystal Palace sign Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur for club-record fee in big early January move for Oliver Glasner's side

Crystal Palace have confirmed the signing of Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur. Palace head coach Oliver Glasner said ahead of the January transfer window that his side would be active in their pursuit of additions, and the acquisition of Johnson represents a significant investment as The Eagles seek success in their domestic and European campaign.

Crystal Palace have announced the signing of Brennan Johnson from Tottenham Hotspur on a four-and-a-half year contract.

Johnson, 24, joins Palace in a club-record deal, reported to be worth £35 million. He will be eligible to make his debut for the club against Newcastle United on Sunday.

"I'm really excited and I'm really happy," Johnson told Palace's official media. "Crystal Palace are such a great club, one that I've always admired.

"It's a great time for me to be here and join the journey that this club is on – I'm super excited."

Head coach Oliver Glasner added: "I’m really delighted that Brennan has joined the club. He arrives very early in the window, so credit to the club for making this happen so quickly.

"Brennan will give us options in our attacking play with his pace and goalscoring ability and with all the upcoming games he will be a valuable addition to the squad."

Johnson departs north London after more than two years, having joined Spurs from Nottingham Forest in September 2023 for a fee in excess of £45m.

The winger managed five goals in his first season at the club, but struck 18 times in all competitions last term to finish his second campaign as Spurs' highest goalscorer.

He scored the only goal of the UEFA Europa League final in May 2025, as Spurs beat Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao to end their 17-year trophy drought.

Arteta bullish in face of alarming Arsenal hoodoo - 'Let's break it'

Having been a regular for previous head coach Ange Postecoglou, Johnson's role had diminished somewhat under Thomas Frank this season, regularly appearing from the bench, with Mohammed Kudus often featuring on the right flank in his place.

The reported £35m figure is the fourth-highest transfer fee commanded by a Spurs player in history, with Johnson behind only Gareth Bale, Harry Kane and Kyle Walker.

Johnson appeared 22 times for Spurs in all competitions this season - 10 of which from the start - scoring four goals. He made 107 appearances in total for the club.

The Wales international will join Palace's push for European honours, as they face a play-off to decide whether they will reach the last 16 of the UEFA Conference League, having finished 10th in the league phase table.

Palace chairman Steve Parish said: "I’m delighted that Brennan has joined us at Crystal Palace – an exciting young talent with an excellent recent record in domestic, continental and international football.

"We feel we are the perfect place for Brennan to continue his already impressive journey, and his arrival bolsters our attacking options in what is proving our busiest season to date, competing on numerous fronts including, for the first time, in Europe."

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank says Spurs will be active in January transfer window but refuses to comment on Brennan Johnson rumours

Tottenham 'will be in the market' but Frank not drawn on Johnson sale talk - TNT Sports
Description

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank will return to his former club, Brentford, on New Year's Day for the first time since leaving in the summer to join Spurs. Ahead of that match, he spoke to the media and answered questions about the winter transfer window. Despite saying the club will be active, Frank would not be drawn on the future of Brennan Johnson, who has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has refused to comment on the future of Brennan Johnson, following reports that the club have agreed a deal with Crystal Palace for the sale of the Wales international.

According to The Athletic, a £35 million agreement has reportedly been settled on by Spurs and Palace ahead of the winter transfer window opening on New Year’s Day.

Asked for clarification of Johnson’s situation during his pre-match press conference ahead of their Premier League game against Brentford, Frank said: "Again, this is the third time I think I get that question, so there's rumours out there. In general, I'm not commenting on that.

"No matter if we want to sign or sell a player or get a staff member in or out, I have no interest in commenting either way."

Johnson has only made six Premier League starts since Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou as manager in the summer.

The 24-year-old - who arrived at Spurs from Nottingham Forest in 2023 - has not found the net in the league since their win at Manchester City in August.

Johnson did, however, score in their UEFA Champions League win against FC Copenhagen in November, before being sent off in the same match.

Asked if Johnson would be part of the squad for their first match of 2026 against Brentford on New Year’s Day, Frank said: "He contributed to a very good and important win against Crystal Palace.

"He trained very well today. I expect him fully to be available and able to play against Brentford."

Johnson was Tottenham’s leading scorer in all competitions last season with 18 goals.

That included arguably the biggest goal of his career, as he got the winner in the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United in Bilbao.

Despite remaining coy about Johnson’s future, Frank did open up about his desire to be active in the transfer window.

"We will be in the market," Frank said. "We are definitely interested in, if we can, strengthening the squad. We will do that.

"I've said it a few times before that things are important. Of course, different types you can add to a squad, but the main bit is the ones we add need to be ones that we really think can improve the team.

"And then, like normal, there can be outgoings if you want to try to make a share of the squad."

Brentford return not 'business as usual' for Frank

Tottenham will kick off 2026 with a trip to Brentford, as Frank returns to his former club for the first time since switching west London for north in the summer.

Frank started life at Brentford as an assistant to Dean Smith, before taking over in the top job following Smith’s sacking in 2018.

He then guided the club to promotion to the Premier League - at the second time of asking - via the Championship play-offs in 2021, before establishing them as a top-flight outfit until his departure for Spurs in the summer of 2025.

January transfer window: Which stars could be on the move?

What does each Premier League club need in January?

Looking ahead to his return to the club, Frank said: "That one cannot be business as usual. That is special.

"I don't think I have thought that much about a game when it's coming back to me. And I'm actually happy that I have those emotions, because that means it meant something to me. The nine years I spent at Brentford, almost seven as a head coach.

"Brentford Football Club, the fans and especially the people I work closely with, have a special place in my heart.

"That's the longest time I've ever been at a club, and we achieved incredible things together. So that is very, very special."

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak undergoes surgery on ankle injury after goal against Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League

Isak undergoes surgery on ankle injury, Liverpool confirm - TNT Sports
Description

Alexander Isak is set for a spell on the sidelines as Liverpool announced he has undergone surgery on an ankle injury. It is the latest setback for Isak at Anfield after his British-record £125 million move from Newcastle United, and particularly ill-timed given he had netted just his second Premier League goal for The Reds moments before suffering the injury.

Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has undergone surgery on an ankle injury he suffered after scoring in his side’s 2-1 Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Isak netted his third goal for Liverpool following his controversial British-record £125m summer move to Anfield from Newcastle, but was tackled by Micky van de Ven in the process and stayed down for several minutes before being helped off the pitch by medical staff.

"Alexander Isak today successfully underwent surgery on the injury he sustained on Saturday," read a club statement released on Tuesday evening.

"The Liverpool striker was injured in a challenge in the process of scoring the opening goal against Tottenham Hotspur and had to be substituted.

"After diagnosis, an operation was completed today on an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture.

"Isak's rehabilitation will now continue at the AXA Training Centre, with no timeframe yet placed on his return."

Of the two lower leg bones, the fibula is generally smaller than the tibia, located on the outer side.

While the club gave no indication of recovery time, surgery on fibula fractures is thought to lead to months, rather than weeks, before full rehabilitation.

With Liverpool already missing Mohamed Salah at the Africa Cup of Nations, it is the latest setback in Isak’s nascent Anfield career.

Isak injury domino effect boosts Man Utd pursuit of Semenyo - Paper Round

Having missed out on pre-season training due to his protracted exit from Newcastle, Isak scored on his debut in the Carabao Cup against Championship side Southampton, but had to wait until the last day of November at West Ham to open his Premier League account. Having looked more like his old self against Spurs, he is now set for a spell on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Sweden fans will hope the injury will not jeopardise their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.

Sweden face Ukraine in their play-off semi-final on March 26, with the final against either Poland or Albania scheduled for March 31.

In the immediate aftermath of Liverpool's victory over Tottenham, manager Arne Slot said he had a "gut feeling" that Isak's injury was "not good".

"I don't have any news on him but if a player scores, gets injured and doesn't come back on the pitch or doesn't try to come back, which Conor Bradley, for example did, but I had to take him off and couldn't come on," said Slot.

"But if a player doesn't try to come back it is usually not a good thing but I cannot say anything more than that. That is just a gut feeling and nothing more than that, nothing medical to say about it.

"I haven't spoken to him about it yet but it's a good thing he scored, a good goal assisted by Florian Wirtz. I said players are getting better, the team is getting better. It wasn't perfect today, especially the last 10 minutes but we pick up points and are developing in a way I want to see."

Liverpool next play Wolves on December 27.
