Spurs host Newcastle in the Premier League in north London this evening

Tottenham and Newcastle United meet tonight in a Premier League clash that carries significant pressure for both managers.

Spurs managed to rescue a point against Manchester City last week but slipped back into defeat at Manchester United on Saturday.

That result has left them looking nervously over their shoulder, with teams below them beginning to pick up form.

Newcastle’s weekend proved equally frustrating as Brentford struck late to claim victory at St James’ Park.

The Magpies sit 12th in the table and are in need of a response, with Howe insisting he remains the right man to lead the club forward.

Wales targeting Tottenham and England midfielder to make international switch - Wales Online
Description

Wales have reportedly made a move to convince highly-rated Tottenham winger Mikey Moore to switch international allegiances from England.

According to the BBC, the Football Association of Wales has already been in contact with the 18-year-old, who is currently on loan at Rangers from Premier League side Tottenham.

It's claimed head coach Craig Bellamy is among those to be particularly keen on exploring the possibility of bringing Moore on board, and he is believed to have also spoken to the Londoner, who qualifies for Wales through a grandparent.

Moore is the youngest player to have ever played for Spurs in the Premier League, having made his debut at the age of 16 years and 277 days after coming off the bench in a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in May 2024.

He also broke the record held by Jimmy Greaves by becoming the youngest English scorer in a major European competition, netting against Elfsborg as part of the club's run to Europa League glory last season.

Moore has also represented England up to under-19 level, netting three goals in 11 games for the young Three Lions, and should he choose to make the switch, he will follow in the footsteps of players like Jordan James and David Brooks, both of whom also decided to represent Wales after spending time in the English system.

The forward has made six appearances in all competitions for Rangers this season, although his time at Ibrox has been punctuated by a difficult start, with the club yet to claim a win in the Scottish Premiership this term.

The youngster's place in the team has subsequently come under scrutiny from fans, but he remains a highly-rated prospect.

Head coach Russell Martin, who finds himself under intense pressure following his side's poor start, has previously backed Moore as a player with a big future.

"We are thrilled to bring Mikey on loan for this season," he said after the club completed the move.

"His profile as a brave, aggressive attacking player is one that we were keen to add to the squad, and he is certainly a player who, despite his age, can make an impact on the team from day one.

"He is a player with huge potential, and it is testament to his quality that he has been entrusted by Spurs in both the Premier League and UEFA Europa League with such regularity over the last 18 months."

A similarly excited Spurs boss Thomas Frank said: "Mikey is a big talent. I’m really excited about his future here at Tottenham. I think for all players but especially younger players they need consistent first-team football into their bodies.

"I think if we can find the right option we will do that."

Wales face a huge international break next month, with the prospect of an away friendly with England to navigate on October 9 before a massive World Cup qualifier with Belgium four days later.

Bellamy is due to name his squad for those two games next Tuesday.

Tottenham are back in the Champions League and will be facing Spanish side Villarreal tonight

They have started the season well under the Dane, with nine points from a possible 12.

They've already pushed Paris Saint-Germain to the wire in the Super Cup, so there is no reason why they can't go far in the Champions League this term.

Marcelino: "I am totally convinced that he (Thomas Partey) is mentally prepared and technically prepared to play tomorrow.

"For sure he will be ready. We are very happy Thomas is with us for his football capacity, football ability and his presence as a human."

Ryan Reynolds can still land ex-Prem target who rejected Wrexham and former Spurs wonderkid - Wales Online
Description

Wrexham were one of the busiest clubs in the summer transfer window, but they could still add to their squad with a number of high-profile free agents still available

Wrexham welcomed 13 new players during the summer transfer window, splashing out a huge sum of £33million.

The Red Dragons added three more signings to their ranks on deadline day as the window closed on Monday. Midfielder Ben Sheaf was snapped up from Coventry City for a reported fee of £6.5m, while Blackburn Rovers defender Dominic Hyam was secured in a deal valued at £2.7m.

The Hollywood-backed club also sealed a season-long loan for Manchester City wing-back Issa Kabore. The window's closure marked the end of a hectic period for manager Phil Parkinson, but Wrexham may still conduct further business.

The Championship newcomers announced on Thursday that they have registered 24 players for this season, leaving room for a potential free agent signing. Notably absent from the list were several names, including Wales goalkeeper Danny Ward, who is set for a prolonged stint on the sidelines after sustaining an elbow injury against Millwall last weekend.

Midfielders Ollie Rathbone and Andy Cannon, along with striker Jay Rodriguez, were also omitted as they contend with injuries. Defender Eoghan O'Connell left Wrexham by mutual consent on Thursday following his exclusion from the squad.

Whether Parkinson opts to fill the vacancy with another newcomer remains to be seen, but it wouldn't be a shock given his addition of Matty James and Jon Dadi Bodvarsson as free agents last season. Here, Wales Online examines some of the players who remain available and could be a valuable addition to the ambitious North Wales club following the closure of the transfer window.

Christian Eriksen

Wrexham made a daring move to sign Christian Eriksen over the summer following his departure from Manchester United. Despite being intrigued by the club's offer, the 33-year-old declined the chance to relocate to North Wales, expressing his desire to continue playing at the highest level.

Nevertheless, with the Danish international remaining a free agent, Wrexham might be encouraged to rekindle their pursuit. Eriksen, whose distinguished career includes spells at Ajax, Tottenham, Inter Milan and Brentford, possesses a remarkable pedigree.

Eriksen is currently understood to be keeping fit with Swedish outfit Malmo whilst he persists in his hunt for a new employer. It would represent a major coup for Wrexham should they manage to persuade him to make the switch.

Dele Alli

Ex-England midfielder Dele Alli finds himself without a club once again after mutually terminating his contract with Como, having only played once for the Serie A team. Dele joined the Italian side on a free transfer in January on an 18-month deal, hoping to rejuvenate his career following a prolonged absence due to injuries, addiction and mental health issues.

However, the 29-year-old's stint at Como turned sour when he was shown a red card less than ten minutes after coming off the bench during Cesc Fabregas' team's 2-1 defeat to AC Milan at the San Siro in March. Wrexham, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, are now among the bookies' favourites to sign Dele and help him get back on track.

He was previously a key player for Tottenham and has earned 37 caps for his country, helping them reach the 2018 World Cup semi-finals. Dele's experience could therefore prove beneficial for Wrexham as they strive to reach the Premier League.

Patrick Bamford

Wrexham also have the chance to pursue another former target in Patrick Bamford following the forward's departure from Leeds United. The 31-year-old, who has one England cap, recently parted ways with the Premier League returnees by mutual consent after a seven-year spell at Elland Road.

It came after boss Daniel Farke made it clear last month that Bamford was surplus to requirements for the current campaign and would have to train with the under-21s if he opted to stay. Upon departing Leeds, Bamford admitted to feeling "raw".

Paul Gascoigne rushed to intensive care after being found by friend - Wales Online
Description

Former England and Tottenham midfielder Paul Gascoigne was rushed to hospital on Tuesday night after being found collapsed at his home in Dorset

England football legend Paul Gascoigne was rushed to intensive care after being discovered collapsed at his residence by a friend. The 58 year old is now reported to be in a stable condition and on the mend.

The ex-Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United midfielder was found in a semi-conscious state in his bedroom in Poole, Dorset, as per The Sun's report. He was taken into intensive care but has since stabilised and is recuperating in an acute medical unit.

Steve Foster, the mate who came upon Gazza, stated: "He would like to thank everyone for the support he's received so far from so many old friends who wish him well and want to see him back to his best."

Foster, who transported Gascoigne to the hospital, commented: "Paul is in hospital, which is the best possible place for him to be right now."

It is anticipated that he will stay in the hospital for a number of days, reports the Mirror.

Gazza is one of the nation's most cherished sporting figures, having risen to prominence during the '80s and '90s.

Emerging from the youth system at his hometown club Newcastle United, he made his first-team debut in April 1985. He netted 25 goals in 104 appearances for the Magpies before transferring to Spurs.

At Tottenham, he played a pivotal role in their 1991 FA Cup triumph and spent four years with the club before joining Lazio. His career also included stints at Rangers, Middlesbrough, Everton, and Burnley.

However, it was with the England national team that Gazza truly endeared himself to fans across the country. Making his international debut in September 1988 under manager Bobby Robson, he became an integral player for England, notably during their journey to the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

After receiving a yellow card against West Germany, which would have ruled him out of the final, Gary Lineker signalled to the bench that Gascoigne was becoming emotional in one of football's most iconic moments.

In the end, England were defeated on penalties and didn't reach the final, resulting in Gazza shedding tears on the pitch as he kissed the badge on his shirt and acknowledged the cheers of the travelling fans.

He was also a member of the England team that made it to the semi-finals of Euro 96 on home turf, once again losing to Germany on penalties. His goal against Scotland in the group stage is one of the most memorable in Three Lions history.

However, he was controversially left out of the 1998 World Cup squad for France by Glenn Hoddle, bringing his international career to an end with 10 goals in 57 appearances.
