The first North London derby of the season is here, with Tottenham and Arsenal having differing fortunes in the latest team news…

Spurs are set to welcome back some key players as they look to get one over their biggest rivals after a slow start to the season.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are going to be without one of their stars and it’s an absence that is going to force Mikel Arteta to experiment with his side.

Here, talkSPORT.com takes a look at the injury latest and predicts how both teams could line up this weekend…

Tottenham

Tottenham are coming into this huge derby off the back of their first defeat of the new Premier League campaign against Newcastle.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have now won, drawn and lost so far this season, with performances not reaching the level needed to compete at the top just yet.

However, Spurs will be boosted by the return of two players who missed the last game.

The first of those players is Micky van de Ven who sat out of the trip to Newcastle after seemingly picking up a knock against Everton.

Postecoglou confirmed that he ‘wasn’t quite 100 per cent’ and that due to the busy schedule after the international break, he was rested.

So it is likely that Van de Ven will be back fit to feature alongside Cristian Romero at centre-back, with Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie on either side.

Guglielmo Vicario will be in goal behind them, of course.

In midfield, Yves Bissouma will sit deeper than Pape Matar Sarr and James Maddison, with the latter looking to create for a very dangerous front three.

And in that trio should see the second returnee in Dominic Solanke, who after missing two straight games, has rested over the break and is likely to be involved against Arsenal.

He’ll be flanked by captain Heung-min Son and potentially Dejan Kulusevski who seems to be preferred to Brennan Johnson.

Summer signing Wilson Odobert may not be ready just yet to pay in such a huge game.

Arsenal

Arsenal are yet to lose this season but they’re now having to deal with some issues.

Before the international break, Declan Rice was controversially sent off against Brighton and that meant he was suspended for this game.

Jurrien Timber also seemed to pick up a knock last time out, hobbling off the Emirates pitch as he was substituted.

However, during the international break, Timber has featured for the Netherlands and looks fit to play alongside William Saliba and Gabriel in defence this weekend.

That is fortunate for the Gunners, considering their other preferred option at left-back, Riccardo Calafiori, looks to have picked up an injury while playing for Italy.

There is no doubt that Ben White will keep his place at right-back.

In midfield, Rice’s suspension means Arteta is going to have to change things.

Jorginho could come in to replace him, but his lack of pace and natural position being less attacking than Rice’s role, that may not be the solution.

Instead, Kai Havertz could slot back into a No.8 position rather than playing as a striker.

Havertz has spent a lot of time in that role since joining Arsenal and despite leading the line so far this season, he could be asked to drop back again.

With Gabriel Jesus likely to miss out though, it leaves the Gunners without a striker and therefore they may have to call on Leandro Trossard again.

Last year, the Belgian slotted into that role for a few games and performed well, with Arteta potentially having to experiment with it again.

On either side of Trossard, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli will provide the width.

Best friends off the pitch - but fierce rivals on it.

It's the classic footballing dilemma.

And for former Tottenham and Everton star Aaron Lennon, there was one Chelsea pal in particular who always sparked some great contests on the field.

The winger made over 400 appearances in the Premier League, coming up against some of the toughest defenders in the top flight during a professional career which spanned almost two decades.

But one player stood out for him for the sheer challenge he posed on the pitch in their many meetings.

When asked to name the one player who he ranked as his toughest opponent, Lennon told talkSPORT it was actually a former international teammate.

"All round, I'd probably say Ashley Cole," he admitted. "We had some amazing battles.

"We played for England together, so it was quite funny. I've said this a few times, we were quite good friends off the pitch, but when we played against each other, he wouldn't speak to me at all.

"So we'd get to the tunnel and I'd be like, you all right, Ash? Looking forward to today, mate. And he'd literally just blank me.

"And then like I said, soon after the game, he'd be coming up joking, but throughout the game, he wouldn't speak to me. And I'd be trying to get in his head a little bit. But it was a good banter.

"But like I said, Ashley Cole was amazing. Amazing player for a club and country. Top, top player. And a great lad."

Cole spent eight years as a Chelsea player, before eventually signing for Roma in 2014.

But before he did, he came up against England teammate Lennon many times as the two contested a number of London derbies.

"I think one of the games we played on Saturday," he recalled. "And we were meeting up on a Sunday and he was so angry with me. But then the Sunday, we were literally best friends again.

"But the whole Saturday, he didn't speak to me. Even after the game, he didn't want to talk to me.

"I think we (Spurs) won that game. So no wonder he didn't want to speak to me!"

Chelsea and Tottenham faced each other 20 times during the period that Cole and Lennon were both at the clubs between 2006 and 2014.

Of those fixtures, Chelsea won eight of those, Spurs won four and the remaining eight games ended in a draw.

But it is clear that the two pals both gave each other their equal share of trouble on the pitch.

Back in May, Cole actually admitted to Goal that Lennon also featured highly on his own list of toughest opponents.

“I played against some top top players, you know," he said. "Aaron Lennon always gave me a tough time, Theo Walcott, Raheem Sterling, but the main one I would have to say is Cristiano."

And Cole was not the only player who rated Lennon as a seriously tough opponent to face.

In fact, former England defender Wayne Bridge previously told talkSPORT that he ranked Lennon as one of the two toughest opponents he had ever faced during his career.

And Lennon was flattered by the nod, admitting that the ex Chelsea and Man City star had always given him an excellent contest.

"Yeah, I'll take that!" said Lennon. "I had a good relationship with Bridge, to be fair, because I played with him for England also. Really good lad, got on with him really well.

"Like I said, I did have some good battles with him on the pitch. So yeah, that's nice to hear. And like I said, Bridge was a top player also.

"He probably didn't give himself enough credit, but Bridgie was a top, top full-back. So he was hard to play against also for me. So yeah, it's nice to hear."

Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has sensationally told Steven Bergwijn his international career is over after sealing a switch to Saudi Arabia.

The 26-year-old completed a £17.6million move from Ajax to Al-Ittihad on Monday after previously being linked with Leicester City.

Bergwijn, who left Tottenham in 2022, was part of the Netherlands squad at Euro 2024, featuring twice in his country’s run to the semi-finals.

But the forward has been left out of the squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League games against Bosnia and Germany.

That’s because Koeman has savagely told the star that his Saudi Pro League move has scuppered his hopes of adding to his 35 caps for the Oranje.

"Steven Bergwijn goes to Saudi Arabia at age 26. It's clear that this has nothing to do with sportive ambition," Koeman told a press conference on Tuesday.

"His book with the Dutch National Team is closed. He probably knows what I would have said this."

Bergwijn made a name for himself in the Ajax academy before joining rivals PSV Eindhoven after falling out with a coach.

The forward broke into the first team and went on to score 29 times in 112 games for the Dutch giants.

He signed for Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham in January 2020 in a £27m deal but struggled to find his best form.

Bergwijn returned to Ajax 18-months later for £26.4m, scoring 29 goals in 80 games for his hometown club.

His move to Al-Ittihad will see him link up with former Premier League stars N’Golo Kante, Moussa DIaby and Fabinho.

Former Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema remains the star name at the club after his move from Real Madrid in 2023.

Jeff Stelling is predicting another difficult weekend for Manchester United and Tottenham in the Premier League.

In the third week of the new season, both sides are desperate to get their second wins of the campaign, but face clashes against their respective bogey teams.

While West Ham host Manchester City on Saturday evening, it's the Sunday's fixtures which have really caught Jeff's eye.

Tottenham travel to Newcastle having lost 6-1 and 4-0 respectively on their last two visits to St James' Park.

Meanwhile United welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford knowing that they've won two of their last three home clashes against their rivals.

They have, however, conceded 26 goals in their last eight games against the Merseysiders.

West Ham vs Man City

Home fixtures get no easier for West Ham at the start of this season.

Listen to this, they’ve taken three points from the last 57 home and away against Manchester City.

Erling Haaland’s got four in four against the Hammers and I think West Ham are going to have a decent season, but the wait for a home win will go on, in my opinion.

Jeff’s prediction: West Ham 0-2 Man City

Newcastle United vs Tottenham

Newcastle United take on Tottenham and Spurs have taken a couple of proper beatings on their last two visits to St James’ Park - conceding ten goals in two matches.

Tottenham look like they might be vulnerable to Newcastle’s counter-punching style – Alexander Isak got four of those ten goals that I mentioned and he could be on the score sheet again.

I think Newcastle are going to get their second home win of the season.

Jeff’s prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Tottenham

Manchester United vs Liverpool

It’s my game of the week and in fact, it’s the game of the season so far.

Just to add a little bit of extra spice, in case it was needed, it’s a case of double Dutch with Erik ten Hag against Arne Slot – they’ve met four times as managers in the past and they can’t be separated with two wins apiece so far.

Mo Salah absolutely loves a trip to Old Trafford – he’s scored in each of his last six appearances there.

In fact, he just loves facing Manchester United with an astonishing 14 goals in the last 11 games he’s played against them – absolutely astonishing.

I love Lisandro Martinez at the heart of the defence for Manchester United, he marshals the defence marvelously and is willing to put his body on the line when it’s required which is just as well because he’s going to need to this weekend.

I can only see an away win here.

Tottenham fans will be nostalgic for one former star after a recent social media post from the club.

Some hugely talented players have lined up for Spurs in recent years, including Harry Kane, Gareth Bale and Heung-Min Son, but a lesser-mentioned name is a favourite among supporters and former teammates alike.

Mousa Dembele made 250 appearances for the club over seven years, and despite not producing the eye-catching numbers of other top midfielders, he is held in high regard by all who watched him closely.

And while he may have left north London in 2019, the huge ability he displayed in their famous white shirt has clearly not been forgotten.

In a compilation video recently uploaded on Spurs' social media platforms, fans were able to relive the Belgian's many quality moments for the club.

Dembele's silky footwork and ability to effortlessly glide past opponents in the centre of the park were on full display in the montage, which was appropriately captioned: "Made it look so easy."

Supporters were clearly delighted to be reminded of the 82-cap former Belgium international's eye-catching displays over the years, and flocked to the comments to show their appreciation.

One commented: "The streets will never forget," alongside a fire emoji.

Meanwhile, others pointed to his lack of recognition compared to other midfielders of his generation.

A fan wrote: "Truly the most underrated player ever to grace the Premier League."

Another said: "TOP TOP PLAYER!!! World class player who never got the accolades that some others get. Majestic."

Some of Dembele's goals and assists were also highlighted in the video, which were arguably the only thing in short supply whilst in N17.

Despite his undeniable talent, the now 37-year-old, who retired from football in 2022, netted just 10 times and registered the same number of assists for Tottenham.

But this has not stopped former peers and rivals from gushing over him, including Kane, who took his goal scoring exploits to Bayern Munich in 2023.

The England skipper played alongside Dembele for the duration of his time in the capital, and was often there to finish off moves that the understated player started with his fine midfield play.

When asked once to name the most naturally gifted player he had played alongside, Kane answered: "Everyone says it, but, Mousa Dembele.

"In terms of technical, strength, power. Just incredible. We saw it in training every day. He wouldn't let anyone come close to him. Amazing ability."

Dembele's list of admirers doesn't end with Kane either, with plenty of others singing his praises, including Manchester City star and former teammate Kyle Walker.

Featuring on Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand's podcast Vibe with FIVE in March, the ex-Spurs defender also hailed him as one of the finest players he has lined up alongside.

He said: "I've said Mousa Dembele countless times. He's a scandal. The only thing Dembele didn't have was assists and goals, but he had stupid talent - it shouldn't have been allowed."

When asked if Dembele would be able to play in City's current side, Walker emphatically said: "One million per cent."

His former manager, Mauricio Pochettino also thought highly of him.

"I always tell him, 'Mousa, when I write a book, you'll be one of my genius players I have been lucky to meet,'" Pochettino said in 2017.

"One was [Diego] Maradona, then Ronaldinho, [Jay-Jay] Okocha and [Ivan] De La Pena. He is a genius too, Mousa Dembele. We always told him, 'If we had taken you at 18 or 19 years old, you would have become one of the best players in the world.' I would have loved to have taken him on at 18."

With a huge fan club already, the much-loved character will surely gain even more admirers if his former employers continue to remind spectators of his incredible abilities.

Manchester United are set for a reunion with Jose Mourinho after the Europa League draw was made.

The Red Devils will travel to Turkey to face their former manager's Fenerbahce side in a mouthwatering clash in Europe's second-tier competition.

Mourinho won the Europa League with the Red Devils in the 2016/17 season, beating Ajax in the final.

Meanwhile, both United and Tottenham were drawn to face Rangers in two blockbuster all-British showdowns.

The Gers are currently winless against English opposition in their last 13 European games, failing to score in nine of those.

United will also face Porto, PAOK, Bodo Glimt, Viktoria Plzen, FC Twente, and FCSB.

Tottenham will take on AS Roma, Rangers, AZ, Ferencvaros, Qarabag, Galatasaray, Elfsborg and Hoffenheim.

Ange Postecoglou's side will face reunions with former players Davinson Sanchez (Galatasaray) and Troy Parrott (AZ).

Spurs booked their place in the second tier European competition after finishing in fifth last season.

Man United did not qualify automatically for the Europa League as they finished a lowly eighth in the Premier League.

However, they bumped Chelsea down to the Europa Conference League by beating Man City to win the FA Cup in May.

There are 36 teams involved in the group stage this year in an expanded competition with each club playing eight times.

The 36 clubs were divided into four pots of nine clubs. The pots are composed according to the club coefficient rankings established at the beginning of the season.

Manchester United and Tottenham were both in pot one.

The date and time for each match will be released on Saturday.

Premier League clubs are busy securing late deals this summer with Deadline Day now underway.

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe's social media account was hacked on Wednesday night - which saw a number of bizarre now-deleted messages posted out.

Cristiano Ronaldo's rivalry with Lionel Messi, a Manchester United transfer tease and even Tottenham's 16-year trophy drought were the conversations of topic.

The French forward's hacker used the 25-year-old's X account, which boasts over 14.4 million followers, to promote a cryptocurrency token.

But the individual couldn't help but have his say on a variety of topics, which included proclaiming Ronaldo as the GOAT of football.

They even insulted his long-time rival Messi, where they shared a picture of the Barcelona legend crying, while using a derogatory term to describe the forward.

The post read: "Cristiano Ronaldo is the greatest football player of all time.

"This m***** [Messi] is NOT my goat.”

And it appears that the hacker was a Red Devils fan - where they even suggested a move to Old Trafford could be on the cards.

One message simply stated: "Manchester is red."

Mbappe's account then sent their rivals a message, saying, 'Yo Man City,' before immediately quoting their own post.

It read: "Looool baited I'm going @ManUtd. 2028 LET'S RUN IT UP ON A FREE TRANSFERRRR."

And Tottenham also caught strays from the hacker, with Ange Postecoglou's side ridiculed over their lack of silverware.

A fan messaged Mbappe's account by commenting: "Spurs are the pride of London, say it."

To which the hacker responded: "What a trophy for Tottenham Hotspur."

And they then humoured a fan by finishing off a popular anti-Spurs song that pokes fun at the north London outfit.

After being asked, 'What do we think of Tottenham', the hacker replied, 'S***', in a post that was viewed over 200,000 time.

While Mbappe will undoubtedly be left fuming over the hack, he may also be worried over his form since linking up with Los Blancos on a free transfer.

He scored on his debut to help Real win the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta, but has failed to find the back of the net in his opening two LaLiga games.

However boss Carlo Ancelotti isn't worried by his displays, as he said: "His last goal was on August 14. It has only been two weeks since, that is no reason to worry.

"Neither we are not worried as a club, nor him. He is very happy here, delighted, sure he wants to score in the next game.

"So does Vinicius, who has yet to score this season and I don't see him worried either.

["Mbappe] is progressing really well, I see him doing better every day, excited, motivated, training well.

"He is very humble. I think his adaptation is going really well."

Harry Kane did not spare Tottenham fans' feelings as he reflected on his decision to leave the club for Bayern Munich in 2023.

The England captain rose through Spurs' youth ranks to become their all-time record goalscorer, before departing the club in search of his first career silverware.

Unfortunately for Kane however, things didn't quite go according to plan in his first year in Germany, as Bayern failed to lift a trophy over the course of a season for the first time in 12 years in 2023/24.

But this did not stop the deadly striker from having a hugely impressive individual campaign, registering 44 goals and 12 assists in 45 appearances for his new club.

His 36 Bundesliga strikes saw him awarded the European Golden Shoe, comfortably beating the likes of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, who netted 28 league goals each for Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.

And Kane has now admitted that he has not looked back since swapping north London for Munich.

On receiving the individual prize, he said: "It's really special. Obviously it was a big step in my career to come to FC Bayern.

"It was one of the best decisions I've made in my life. I'm enjoying every moment of it so far."

After making his senior Tottenham debut in 2011 aged 18, he went on to score 280 goals in all competitions for Spurs, more than any other player in the club's history.

His exploits in front of goal also saw him win the Premier League Golden Boot three times, whilst he endeared himself to fans by becoming the leading goal-scorer in north London derbies, netting 14 times altogether.

Now however, Kane's focus is firmly on the future with Bayern, who began their league campaign with a 3-2 win over Wolfsburg on Sunday.

Sharing his eagerness for the upcoming season, he said: "I'm excited for this season especially, obviously we got off to a good start on Sunday

"There's a new energy in the building, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what we can achieve this season."

With former Burnley manager Vincent Kompany now in charge at the Allianz Arena after a disappointing year cost former coach Thomas Tuchel his job, Kane and his teammates are now looking to bounce back.

Last term, the Bavarians finished 18 points behind Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, and the Englishman admitted they are keen to avoid a repeat performance.

He added: "[My goals are] to continue how I started last year, to hopefully score as many goals, if not more.

"But most importantly, it's to win the titles.

"We know last year we fell short of what we wanted to achieve as a team, and I was part of that.

"As great as these awards are, we're all hungry to have that success as a team again, and we have a great opportunity as a team this year to go and do that, and hopefully prove a few people wrong."

Kane will be hoping to open his Bundesliga account in Bayern's next game against Freiburg, as they look to restore their domestic dominance this season.

Gabby Agbonlahor had a tough task to name his team of the week after a superb weekend of Premier League action.

Chelsea hit Wolves for six, while comprehensive wins for Tottenham and Manchester City meant that there were goals galore for fans to enjoy.

And players from those clubs - along with Arsenal, Manchester United, Fulham and Aston Villa also make Gabby's selection.

David Raya

I actually had Andre Onana to start because his passing was so good against Brighton and he’s come under a lot of scrutiny, but I’ve gone with Raya.

His save from Ollie Watkins’ header was the best save I’ve seen for a long while. It was outstanding.

To dive one way - a lot of goalkeepers wouldn’t have the agility to get up so quick and get the second save. I thought it was outstanding goalkeeping and that won Arsenal the game because if that had gone in, I’m sure Villa would have held on for a 1-0 win.

Noussair Mazraoui

When I watched him in his first two games that he’s been involved in, he’s a defender who loves one vs ones.

If you look at the way he defended against Kaoru Mitoma at the weekend, he had him in his pocket.

He let him try to take him on but had the pace to get back and so he can defend one vs one, but going forward he’s also very good on the ball.

I think that he’s going to be a really good signing for Man United.

Antonee Robinson

I was thinking about Andy Robertson at Liverpool, but I like the way that Robinson plays.

I’ve watched him a lot recently and he’s got that frightening pace to get forward and back, he got an assist at the weekend and he’s a really exciting player.

He’s someone who should be playing for a bigger team and he’s one to watch after a very good performance.

Cristian Romero

He took his goal well. To score a goal from a set piece against a Sean Dyche team it means it’s got to be a very good goal.

The way he jumps over James Tarkowski, there was only one player who wanted it the most.

But it wasn’t just his goal, it’s the aggression that he now shows in the right way – previously he’d get sent off or commit bad tackles or lose his temper, but now he’s showing it and saying ‘you’re not getting past me’.

“He’s a really top defender and there’s a reason why he’s won the World Cup and the Copa America.

Micky Van de Ven

I think he’s the best centre-back in the league alongside William Saliba.

I always look at defenders and think ‘what would I have liked or not liked to have played against’ and he’s one that I’d have hated to play against.

I’d have gone to the other centre-half instead of playing against him.

He’s got electric pace, aggression in the right way and he’s good on the ball which he showed with his assist for Heung-min Son.

He’s so good at coming out with the ball and running the length of the pitch when needed – that’s what he did and it was an outstanding performance once again.

When you’ve got two defenders like Van de Ven and Romero, you’ve always got a chance.

Yves Bissouma

His off the field antics – something that I got in trouble for as well – players have to go through that stage and learn from it.

He missed the first game of the season and perhaps luckily because of Bentancur’s head injury, he’s got back into the side.

The way he took that goal – his first for Spurs – he smashed it off the underside of the crossbar. It was a great goal and a great finish and all game he was getting on the ball and putting in tackles at the right time.

It was a very good performance and he set the tempo for that Spurs midfield.

Kevin De Bruyne

He has to be in there for me. Man City won the league by two points last season – probably because De Bruyne didn’t play for most of the season.

Now that he’s back and fit, if he can stay fit they’ll win the league by more than two points this season.

Just look at his pass for Erling Haaland’s goal – most midfielders don’t even see that ball but he sees the tiny gap and plays it through to Haaland.

It’s just the range of passing that he’s got. It means that when he’s got the ball, any player can make any run they want so for me, it was a very good performance from De Bruyne once again.

Noni Madueke

What he said about Wolverhampton on his private social media, to do that and upset the entire home crowd from the first second and then score a hat-trick against that team shows that he’s got that character and self-belief that he won’t crumble in big situations.

I thought he was outstanding all game.

He’s a player who a lot of managers would like, but can they get the consistency out of him? He needs to show that to keep his place in this Chelsea side.

But to score three goals and the way that he took his three goals, was magnificent.

For a player that is left-footed to score two with his right foot, it’s hard for defenders to defend against that surprise.

Running with the ball, taking players on, physical and strong, I think he’s a really exciting player and one to watch for Lee Carsley’s first England squad.

Cole Palmer

He was a bit quiet against Man City – it was probably the worst that I’ve seen him since joining Chelsea but this week he was maybe in a role that suits him more.

Madueke on the right and him in the no.10 position – he was getting on the ball and linking play. He’s a no.10, not a right winger.

Look at his goal and the way that he took it – when you look at that goal and see the goalkeeper off his line you think it’s an easy finish but no, that is a tough technique.

It was an outstanding goal and only confident players with that swagger would take on that chance.

Also to get three assists, yes they were simple assists but if Mudryk had that ball he’d over-pass it to Madueke.

For me, Palmer was outstanding all game and when you get three assists and a goal in a game you have to make the team of the week.

Morgan Rogers

Of course we have to have at least one Villa player per week, that’s the rule, but all joking aside I had to leave Joao Pedro, Jarrod Bowen and Emile Smith Rowe out because this was the most talked about performance of the weekend.

He was strong – he looks like he’s put on strength over the summer – he was bullying Thomas Partey and Declan Rice and they couldn’t handle him in that no.10 position.

It was his little touches, his turn, running at defenders with pace – I think that he’s going to be a really exciting prospect and to know that Aston Villa only paid £8million, rising to £12million or £13million is such a steal at 22 years old.

I thought he was magnificent and deserves to be in the team of the week.

Erling Haaland

I was hoping that another striker would catch my eye so I didn’t have to pick Haaland every week, but I’m going to have to because he got a hat-trick again.

To score four goals in two games, he’s going to start breaking records that he’s set himself.

It was his run for the first goal that gives De Bruyne the chance to put him through before the early finish.

Also for his third goal, the goalkeeper didn’t expect him to shoot from there, so to get that accurate shot away from the edge of the box shows that he can score every type of goal.

He’s not just a tap-in merchant, he can score every goal and it was another outstanding performance.
