James Maddison has brutal four-word reply for Tottenham fan who criticised darts trip

James Maddison put a Tottenham fan firmly in his place after he was criticised for being spotted at Ally Pally.

The Spurs star was in attendance for Sunday night's action which included reigning champion Luke Humphries being knocked out by Peter Wright.

Maddison was spotted alongside Spurs teammate Brennan Johnson just hours after the north London side were held to a disappointing 2-2 draw with Wolves.

Taking to Instagram, one Spurs fan was less-than impressed at the midfielder's appearance at Ally Pally.

He said: "You taking the p***? The form we're in and you go the darts? Unacceptable."

But within 12 minutes of being sent the fans' message, Maddison clapped back in typical style.

"Shut up you wally," he wrote, with a laughing emoji to accompany it.

Tottenham's 2-2 draw was just the latest example of Spurs' habit of going behind first in games.

Spurs have become the first team since the inception of the Premier League in 1992 to concede first in 15 home games in a single calendar year.

Spurs have now fallen behind first in seven top-flight home matches this term from their ten fixtures at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

From those games, they have won just three times - coming from behind to beat Brentford, West Ham and Aston Villa.

Meanwhile they have gone on to lose on three occasions - against Arsenal, Ipswich and Liverpool - while also drawing once, against Wolves.

In the seven home games that Spurs have gone behind in this term, they forced themselves back on level terms by half-time on three occasions.

Reflecting on the run, manager Ange Postecoglou said: "It hurts me because I'm responsible ultimately. I'm the person in charge. So of course it hurts.

"When I see how hard they are trying, it hurts even more because you want them to get a reward and I think they deserved a reward for their efforts even though they were dipping into their reserves of energy.

"I wanted them to get a reward for their efforts. So of course it hurts. It hurts immensely.

"At the same time it's my responsibility for where we're at right now and it's my responsibility to try to get us out of it."

Tottenham are next in action on January 4 when they host Newcastle United.

West Ham 0-0 Liverpool - Chance

Alphonse Areola with another big stop!

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is caught out of position, and Liverpool are away down the right with Mohamed Salah driving at Edson Alvarez.

He spots the run of Curtis Jones in the box and feeds him.

It's a lovely pass, and Jones strikes towards the far corner, but there is the Frenchman to make a crucial save.

Given he's filling in for the injured Lukasz Fabianski, he's made a great start to this match.

West Ham 0-0 Liverpool - Chances

Opportunities at both ends!

Andy Robertson gifts possession to Jarrod Bowen, and he races away down the left.

He rolls it perfectly across the box for Lucas Paqueta, who slips and sends his effort miles wide.

Down the other end, Cody Gakpo feeds Mohamed Salah in the box with an excellent pass.

The Egyptian thinks he's scored, but Alphonse Areola brilliantly tips it over the bar.

West Ham 0-0 Liverpool - Kick-off

We are underway at the London Stadium, and it appears as if Aaron Wan-Bissaka is at left-back for West Ham.

This means he will be up against Mohamed Salah in what is sure to be an intriguing contest.

Emerson is playing in a much more advanced position on the left wing, meaning Lucas Paqueta is in behind Jarrod Bowen.

For Liverpool, it's the standard 4-2-3-1 that Arne Slot has adopted since taking control at Anfield.

West Ham vs Liverpool

We are about to get underway at the London Stadium, but ahead of the game, there was a special guest.

Former West Ham players Ludek Miklosko came out to greet the fans.

He has made the brave decision to end cancer treatment, so that he can enjoy the last parts of his life without any pain and suffering.

Premier League full times

That's the end of the 3pm Premier League games, and there have been goals everywhere.

Nottingham Forest are up to second after a fifth straight win.

Nuno Espirito Santo's side are legitimately in the title race after a 2-0 win over Everton.

In north London, Tottenham could only manage a 2-2 draw against Wolves, with Jorgen Strand Larsen scoring a late equaliser for the visitors.

Fulham and Bournemouth produced a thrilling 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage with the Cherries snatching a late equaliser through Dango Ouattara.

And at Selhurst Park, Crystal Palace came from 1-0 down to beat Ivan Juric's Southampton 2-1.

Everton 0-2 Nottingham Forest - FT

Crystal Palace 2-1 Southampton - FT

Tottenham 2-2 Wolves - FT

Fulham 2-2 Bournemouth - FT

GOAL! Tottenham 2-2 Wolves - Jorgen Strand Larsen

WE HAVE A LATE LEVELLER!

Rayan Ait-Nouri drifts in from the left and plays a brilliant pass down the left of the box for Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The striker takes a touch and rifles a shot into the top corner.

It's a blistering strike that rattles into the roof of the net.

Vitor Pereira looks as if he is going to keep his unbeaten record going.

Leicester 0-2 Man City - FULL TIME

There goes the final whistle at the King Power, and Man City have sealed a much-needed three points.

Savinho finally scored his first Premier League goal as he tapped in from a rebound.

Leicester then had plenty of chances to get something from the game, but some poor finishing cost them the chance to inflict more pain on City.

Erling Haaland then popped up with a header late on to seal the win for Pep Guardiola in his 500th game in charge of City.

Premier League updates

Goals are flying in all over the country again.

Crystal Palace have turned it around at home against Southampton and now lead 2-1 thanks to an Eberechi Eze strike.

Bournemouth have found an equaliser at Craven Cottage through Evanilson to leave that game at 1-1.

And Nottingham Forest have doubled their lead against Everton through Morgan Gibbs-White.

Tottenham 2-1 Wolves

So, as a Tottenham fan, what is the last thing you wanted to see in this game?

Well, another injury, of course.

And that is exactly what has just happened because Destiny Udogie has left the field.

The Italian international immediately indicated to his teammates he had damaged his hamstring and collapsed to the floor.

Spurs wasted no time in getting him off, and he looked distraught leaving the pitch.

In a clip, he appears to say 'it's my hamstring'.

The defensive injury woes for Spurs just keep racking up.

West Ham vs Liverpool: Team news

Right, we have the team news in for West Ham's home game against Liverpool, which starts at 17:15pm.

The Hammers have made four changes from the team that scraped past Southampton on Boxing Day.

Lukasz Fabianski misses out with concussion, so Alphonse Areola starts.

Vladimir Coufal, Lucas Paqueta and Edson Alvarez also come into the team.

Tomas Soucek, Niclas Fullkrug and Guido Rodriguez come out.

For Liverpool, there is just one change from the 3-1 win over Leicester, with Luis Diaz replacing Darwin Nunez.

West Ham: Areola, Coufal, Wan-Bissaka, Kilman, Mavropanos, Emerson, Alvarez, Soler, Kudus, Paqueta, Bowen

Subs: Foderingham, Cresswell, Summerville, Fullkrug, Guilherme, Ings, Todibo, Irving, Scarles

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Mac Allister, Gravenberch, Salah, Jones, Gakpo, Diaz

Subs: Kelleher, Endo, Nunez, Elliott, Jota, Tsimikas, McConnell, Danns, Quansah

GOAL! Leicester 0-2 Man City - Erling Haaland

THREE POINTS WRAPPED UP!

James McAtee produces a delightful turn on the right and finds Kevin De Bruyne.

He feeds Savinho, who teases a cross to the far post.

There is Erling Haaland unmarked to head home from five yards.

Leicester have battled, but that should be it for Pep Guardiola's men.

Certainly, Stuart Pearce thinks so. Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: "It's McAtee's turn that made it all happen, and the smiles on the City players' faces suggest they think they are over the line."

Leicester 0-1 Man City - Chance

Jamie Vardy has to score!

The Foxes have been excellent in this second half, and they deserve to be level, and they should be.

Stephy Mavididi finds some space on the left and delivers a stunning cross.

It is literally perfect for Vardy to head in, but he goes with his foot and somehow diverts the ball over the bar from four yards.

He smacks the bar in frustration as he knows that was a massive opportunity.

Premier League updates

That is half time in all of the 3pm Premier League ties.

In north London, Tottenham have come from 1-0 down to lead Wolves 2-1 thanks to Rodrigo Bentancur and Brennan Johnson.

Nottingham Forest are beating Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park, with Chris Wood's goal the difference.

On the banks of the Thames, Fulham lead Bournemouth 1-0 thanks to Raul Jimenez's 40th minute strike.

And at Selhurst Park, Ivan Juric is on course for his first point as Southampton manager, with the Saints holding Crystal Palace at 1-1.

Everton 0-1 Nottingham Forest - HT

Crystal Palace 1-1 Southampton - HT

Tottenham 2-1 Wolves - HT

Fulham 1-0 Bournemouth - HT

GOAL! Tottenham 2-1 Wolves - Brennan Johnson

BIG GOAL!

With the pressure mounting on Ange Postecoglou, Brennan Johnson has just popped up with a massive moment.

Rodrigo Bentancur carries the ball down the right and plays it into Brennan Johnson.

He has a one-two with Dejan Kulusevski and advances into the box.

The Swede keeps his calm and rolls a pass to Johnson, who opens up his body and finds the back of the net.

Tottenham 1-1 Wolves - MISSED PENALTY

WOW! WHAT AN AWFUL SPOT KICK!

Spurs are awarded a penalty after a stupid foul by Andre.

Heung-min Son steps up and takes, but it's a very poor spot kick.

Jose Sa dives to his left and makes the save at about mid-goal height.

Leicester 0-1 Man City

Again, no penalty for the home side!

Leicester cut through the Man City midfield like it isn't there, and the ball is fed into Facundo Buonanotte.

He should get a shot away, but he elects to take another touch and cut inside.

Nathan Ake slides in and makes contact with the Buonanotte, but the referee is unmoved.

Initially, it looks to be a blatant spot kick, but on the replay you can see that the Leicester man throws his leg into Ake, so it's a wonderful decision from Michael Oliver.

GOAL! Crystal Palace 1-1 Southampton - Trevoh Chalobah

THE SAINTS CAN'T HANG ON!

Will Hughes delivers a corner from the right that he swings in towards the near post.

It looks easy for Aaron Ramsdale to deal with, but he isn't strong enough.

Trevoh Chalobah beats him to the corner and nods into the back od the net.

He won't score an easier goal than that in his career.

Leicester 0-1 Man City - Kick-off

Back underway for the second half at the King Power, and there are no changes for either team.

The Citizens have the lead through Savinho's first goal, but they've not had this one all their own way.

Leicester have looked dangerous and could easily have at least one goal.

Pep Guardiola's side came close to doubling their lead through Erling Haaland, but that air of vulnerability is most definitely there.

Premier League updates

Goals are flying in all over the place in the Premier League.

At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the hosts are level through Rodrigo Bentancur.

At Selhurst Park, Southampton are beating Crystal Palace 1-0 thanks to Tyler Dibling.

New Saints boss Ivan Juric is looking for his first win, and he is on the way.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest continue their outstanding form and are 1-0 up over Everton.

Chris Wood has his 11th top-flight goal of the season.

Everton 0-0 Nottingham Forest

Ahead of this one starting, Nottingham Forest were forced into a change.

Brazilian centre-back Murillo picked up an injury in the warm-up, which is a huge blow, given how good he has been this season.

As a result, Ramon Sosa is into the XI.

This is his first Premier League start of the year.

GOAL! Tottenham 0-1 Wolves - Hwang Hee-chan

WHAT A GREAT GOAL!

Wolves strike first at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and it's a beautiful finish from Hwang Hee-chan.

The visitors have three men around a free-kick, and Rayan Ait-Nouri rolls a pass into Hwang on the edge of the box.

The South Korean striker meets it and curls a delicious strike into the bottom corner.

That is not the start Ange Postecoglou wanted, but Vitor Pereira is on course for three straight wins.

This is the 15th time they've fallen behind in 2024 at home, which is the most by any team in top-flight history.

Leicester 0-1 Man City - Chance

How on earth hasn't that gone in!

Bilal El Khannous is growing into this game, and he's just delivered a dream cross into the box.

He popped up on the right and curled a stunning ball into the box that was begging to be put away.

Jamie Vardy couldn't make contact and neither could the two other blue shirts.

Stuart Pearce was full of praise for the approach player, he said: "El Khannous whipped it in there with a bit of curl, and the Leicester players coming across couldn't quite get there."

GOAL! Leicester 0-1 Man City - Savinho

OFF THE MARK!

No player in the Premier League had more shots without scoring this season than Savinho - until now.

That's because he's finally off the mark after 28 shots, though there are big question marks over Jakub Stolarczyk.

A shot from range comes in, and he can see it all the way, but he tips it straight to the winger.

Savinho can't believe his luck as he slams a shot into the back of the net from close range.

It's a great moment for him, but the keeper has to do better.

Stuart Pearce on talkSPORT said: "I've only seen it once, but that is woeful goalkeeping."

Leicester 0-0 Man City - Chance

Josko Gvardiol, what are you doing?

The home side have grown into this game and are starting to cause a few problems, and they could be in the lead.

A long ball is pumped down the right, and it looks easy for Gvardiol to deal with.

He tries to nod it back to Stefan Ortega, but he doesn't see Jamie Vardy.

Vardy collects and drills in a low shot that Ortega blocks.

Tottenham make unwanted Premier League history as Ange Postecoglou's men concede first yet again

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Tottenham have created unwanted Premier League history by becoming the first team to concede first in 15 home games in a single calendar year.

Ange Postecoglou's men have made it a habit of going behind first in 2024 in front of their own fans.

And against Wolves on Sunday afternoon it was no different, with the visitors needing just seven minutes to take the lead.

A brilliantly worked free-kick saw Hwang Hee-chan take aim from outside the box where he curled home in the bottom right corner.

With that, Spurs have become the first team since the inception of the Premier League in 1992 to concede first in 15 home games from January-December.

Spurs have now fallen behind first in seven top-flight home matches this term from their ten fixtures at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

From those games, they have won just three times - coming from behind to beat Brentford, West Ham and Aston Villa.

Meanwhile they have gone on to lose on three occasions - against Arsenal, Ipswich and Liverpool.

In the six home games that Spurs have went behind in prior to the Wolves clash, they forced themselves back on level terms by half-time twice.

And they made it three against the Midlands outfit, with Rodrigo Bentancur equalising in the 12th minute.

The Uruguay international got on the end of Pedro Porro's corner at the near post to head past Jose Sa.

Spurs could have completed the turnaround in the 43rd minute after they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Brennan Johnson.

However skipper Heung-min Son couldn't find the back of the net, with Sa diving to his right to keep out the South Korean's spot-kick.

However the comeback was complete in the third minute of first half stoppage time through Welsh forward Johnson.

Johnson combined brilliantly with Dejan Kulusevski down the right channel, with the former feeding the latter outside the box.

Kulusevski then glided into the box before pulling back for his teammate, who made no mistake by firing into the near post.

A win for Spurs would lift them up to tenth in the table following back-to-back defeats against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

Prior to Sunday's clash, Spurs had won just once out of their last six top-flight matches to leave Postecoglou under huge pressure.

Tottenham without fit senior centre-back against Wolves as Vitor Pereira eyes club history - predicted line-ups and talkSPORT coverage

Submitted by daniel on

Tottenham will look to put an end to their dismal form this weekend when they face Wolves, live on talkSPORT 2.

Spurs have lost their last two games and four of their last five, with the pressure building on Ange Postecoglou.

Their form has them 12th in the Premier League and struggling, and things need to turn around quickly.

They will hope that some positivity can return in front of their fans on Sunday as they host relegation-threatened Wolves.

Although new manager Vitor Pereira has the West Midlands outfit loving life, winning his first two games in charge.

Pereira can make history if he tastes victory again, aiming to become the first-ever Wolves boss to win his first three top-flight matches.

Tottenham vs Wolves: Predicted line-ups

Tottenham may be without a fit senior centre-back this weekend.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have both been sidelined in recent weeks, leaving Spurs with a makeshift defence.

And now even the back-up centre-backs are injured, with Ben Davies suffering a setback and Radu Dragusin picking up a knock.

It means Archie Gray is going to remain out-of-position in the back four, while Yves Bissouma may have to cover if youngster Alfie Dorrington isn't trusted.

Bissouma would replace Dragusin as he was substituted against Nottingham Forest, so he must be seen as an option.

Pedro Porro is likely to return at right-back with Djed Spence suspended, while Destiny Udogie should be on the left again.

Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr will be in midfield behind a returning James Maddison who was benched last time out.

Maddison coming back would see Brennan Johnson drop out, with Heung-min Son and Dejan Kulusevski keeping their place.

Dominic Solanke will lead the line as Richarlison is still injured.

As for Wolves, Matheus Cunha seems to be still available to feature despite being charged by the FA.

Since Cunha was punished for misconduct, he's scored important goals against Leicester and Man United.

And he's expected to be playing again as the FA have provided no update on whether he will be banned or not yet.

The Brazilian will continue in behind Jorgen Strand Larsen and next to the rejuvenated Goncalo Guedes.

In midfield, Andre and Joao Gomes have a good partnership while Nelson Semedo and Rayan Ait-Nouri will be at wing-back.

The back four will pick themselves after back-to-back clean sheets under new manager Pereira.

Jose Sa will be in goal, with Matt Doherty, Santiago Bueno and Toti Gomes forming a strong trio in front of him.

Tottenham have lost each of their last three Premier League meetings with Wolves, their longest-ever losing run against them in their league history.

Wolves have won four of their last five league games against Spurs (L1), as many as they had in their previous 19 against them combined (D3 L12).

Tottenham have only lost their final league game in one of the last 15 calendar years (W8 D6), though that was a 3-1 home defeat against Wolves in 2018.

Tottenham vs Wolves: What has been said?

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O'Hara has called for Spurs to steal another Premier League manager to replace Postecoglou.

O'Hara believes the Australian's job is at risk as the pressure continues to grow on him as his side's poor form continues.

Speaking after a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest last time out, the talkSPORT host told the Sports Bar: “We’ve actually fallen apart.

“I get we’ve had problems but you can’t keep losing games. It’s happening every week.

“I’m starting to come around to the fact that we should nick Fulham’s manager Marco Silva. He’s good.

"They are organised, have a structure. They haven’t got world-beaters, but they have good players.

“All I’m saying is I don’t know if Big Ange can carry on. You can’t lose nine out of 18 games and be the Tottenham manager and get away with it. It can’t continue.”

No team have lost more Premier League games since the start of December than Tottenham (4). It’s their most league defeats in a calendar month since December 2003 (also 4), while they last lost five league games in a single month in October 1955.

Dominic Solanke has been involved in seven goals in his last six home games in all competitions for Tottenham, scoring six and assisting one. He’s looking to score in four consecutive home appearances for the first time since October 2021 (6 with Bournemouth).

Matheus Cunha has been involved in 11 goals in his last 10 Premier League games, scoring seven and assisting four. Overall he’s had a hand in 22 goals in 2024 (16 goals, 6 assists), the second most by a Wolves player in a single calendar year in the Premier League after Raúl Jiménez (24 in 2019).

Tottenham vs Wolves: talkSPORT coverage

This Premier League clash will be played on Sunday, December 29.

Kick-off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is scheduled for 3pm.

'Big call' - Huge Heung-Min Son contract claim made by former Premier League striker

Submitted by daniel on
Picture

Description

Tottenham have been told to make a huge decision on the future of club captain Heung-Min Son.

The South Korean superstar is coming to the end of his current contract in north London but is currently in sporadic form as Spurs struggle.

Defensive injury issues have hampered Ange Postecloglou's team in the Premier League.

They have, though, reached the League Cup semi-finals where they will face Liverpool, and are well-placed in the Europa League too.

Son has 13 goal contributions 21 appearances across all competitions but wasn't anywhere near his usual self against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.

That form has led former Premier League striker Tony Cascarino to query if the 32-year-old will get the new deal he wants.

And he believes there is a chance the next five months could be his last in north London, insisting sometimes difficult decision need to be made.

He told talkSPORT: “I don't think Son will stay at Spurs. No, I don't. I think it's one of them that you've got to make a big call on as well.

“He's been brilliant for them over the years, but it's time to move on in football sometimes.”

Tottenham do have the option to extend the South Korean's deal but talks are ongoing over a renewal.

However, Cascarino is insistent it would take a big resurgence in form for Spurs to pull the trigger on a new deal.

He added: “He will survive, or they would definitely keep him, if he had a second part of the season that was superb.

"If he has that season where it hasn't really worked to now, and then he goes and gets 15 or 12 goals in the second part of the season, plays well, then Tottenham will probably use that option.

"But as it is today, I think it's more likely that he could go.”

Son, now the club's all-time top assister in Premier League history, is not the only top-flight star in this predicament.

Kevin De Bruyne is in the same bout but Cascarino believes Man City's decision about retaining the Belgian playmaker relies on how fit he is.

He added: "It's another big call for Manchester City, because if it's a fit Kevin De Bruyne, then you've still got one hell of a talent. He still won't lose his ability to pass the ball.

"But they look a team a little bit like Manchester United. They're running out of legs on the pitch in many different positions.”

Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood is also out of contract in the summer - and has been in fine form.

Cascarino, though, believes he should easily be able to claim a new contract from his current employers.

He added: "I think Chris Wood, Forest will try and give him another year, because he doesn't rely on pace.

"You're talking about a player that never has to think about, 'Oh, he's lost half a yard'. It doesn't matter if Chris Wood loses half a yard.

“If you've got Anthony Elanga one side and Callum Hudson-Odoi the other, and Morgan Gibbs-White joining him, and Elliot Anderson joining him as well, you don't really need to worry about that.

"He could do another year, no problem. So I don't see that as an issue.”

Tamworth spark controversy with ticket prices for Tottenham FA Cup clash

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Non-league club Tamworth FC have sparked a backlash from football fans after revealing ticket prices for their upcoming FA Cup showdown with Tottenham.

However, some supporters are pointing the finger directly at the Football Association and insisting one-off price hikes will become more common after the decision was made to scrap replays.

National League North champions Tamworth will welcome Premier League Spurs to their 4,000 capacity Lamb Ground on January 12 in the third round of the FA Cup.

It’s one of the biggest games in the Staffordshire club’s history and fans would have been buzzing to get their hands on a ticket ever since being drawn against the top flight giants at the beginning of December.

There was even a video of a group of young supporters going wild at the club’s stadium as they watched the draw live and discovered their big-boy opponents.

However, some of them might have been left dumbstruck on Saturday morning when Tamworth released how much tickets to the game will cost - in a huge rise from their regular matchday prices.

The most expensive seat for an adult in the main stand will set fans back £42, while a ticket for a child under 10 in the same area will cost £29.

That's compared to regular matchday prices of £20 for an adult and £4 for an under 10.

A spot in the terraces are generally a few pounds cheaper, but against Spurs it will cost £25 for a child under 10 - a ticket the club usually gives away for free in a regular season game.

It’s led to a huge reaction from the wider football fandom, not just supporters of the club, with some reacting with anger and accusing the club of ripping them off and profiteering from a high-profile game.

“How short sighted are these prices,” one X user wrote. “A chance to repay and respect the fans that go and support you every week, and instead you release this monstrosity. Shameful.”

“That pricing is an absolute disgrace,” posted another. “You should seriously reconsider what you’re doing. What a joke.”

Another was a little more blunt with their message, saying: “29 quid for under 10’s? You having a f****** laugh!”

Tamworth FC declined to comment on the ticket prices when approached by talkSPORT.

Other supporters understood, though, with many saying it’s inevitable clubs further down the pyramid will hike prices after being robbed of a potential replay after the FA’s recent rule changes.

“This is what happens when you scrap replays,” one fan wrote on X. “Not surprising that a small club is trying to maximise the fixture.”

One Tottenham fan also backed the prices: “Good on ya! The ones that will want to come will pay - the moaners will watch it on the TV anyway. Generational fixture make the most out of it! COYS!”

“Everyone going after Tamworth for ridiculous prices but no one’s remembering that this is what happens when you scrap replays”, another posted on social media.

“Come on - they deserve their pay day,” said another. “Football at this level is funded from an owner’s pocket. They are not owned by some multi conglomerate organisation with billions behind them. Let them have their pay day thus securing another 12 months of overheads paid.”

Tamworth have never played higher than the fifth tier of English football in their entire history, having only returned to the National League this term after being crowned National League North champions last season.

This isn’t the first time they’ve reached the FA Cup third round, but they will hoping it will be fourth-time lucky as they look to win a third round tie for the first time.

They’ve previously reached the third round in 2005/06 when they were beaten by Stoke, in 2006/07 when they were beaten by Norwich and in 2011/12 when they were beaten by Everton.

The ticket issues lay bare the issue surrounding the FA’s decision to scrap replays - which talkSPORT host Andy Goldstein branded ‘disgusting’.

Cup replays have been the lifeblood for lower league teams for generations, and in some cases that extra pay day can be the difference between a club staying afloat or ceasing to exist.

But the FA announced in April that from this season’s competition onwards replays would be scrapped from the first round proper.

It led to a huge backlash, including from the EFL who accused the FA and Premier League of making the decision without input from the wider football league.

The Premier League defended the move, insisting they had been in lengthy talks with the EFL and that ‘all parties accepted [cup replays] could not continue’.

That hasn’t stopped fans from complaining about the controversial call, though, particularly after a number of high-scoring thrillers in the early rounds that were settled on the night on penalties, when a replay seemed the fairer outcome.

Arsenal legend Martin Keown even believes the removal of replays has robbed the FA Cup of some of its trademark magic.

“I don’t want to kill that essence of the competition which is that dream to be a giant killer,” he said on White and Jordan in April.

“I think something is being missed with all this. Your best chance to be a giant killer is to do it in a replay and by taking them away you’re taking something away from the FA Cup.

“You're taking away the drama. You're taking away the ability for fans to dare to dream. I don't like seeing that disappear.”

Tamworth have already done their share of giant killing this season, beating League One duo Huddersfield and Burton Albion in the first two rounds.

Being drawn at home against Tottenham was a huge boost for the club, but fans will be gutted to know that a draw will not see them enjoy a return leg to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as it would have in previous years.

'It can't continue' - Jamie O'Hara names Premier League boss who should immediately replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Jamie O’Hara has named the Premier League manager he wants Tottenham to poach as Ange Postecoglou comes under increasing pressure.

Spurs continue to be the biggest Jekyll and Hyde team in the top flight this season, with a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day drawing ire from the fan base.

It has been a bizarre month for the north London club - they have lost four of their eight games in all competitions, but also managed a 5-0 victory over Southampton and a 4-3 win over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

Postecoglou has no intention of changing the way he plays despite worrying results that have left them 11th in the Premier League.

Ex-Spurs man O’Hara was frustrated by the Australian’s stubbornness and said he cannot last if his attitude does not change.

“We’ve actually fallen apart,” O’Hara told The Sports Bar on Boxing Day.

“Everyone is saying we’ve got injuries, and I get that, but if you look at our team today it’s not an injury-hit team. That’s not far off our best, apart from our centre-backs in Romero and Van de Ven.

“I get we’ve had problems but you can’t keep losing games. It’s happening every week.

“We’ve lost nine games in the Premier League this season. Only Southampton, Leicester and Wolves have lost more than us.

“It’s nine games! It’s a broken record.

“We could drop big time. We've been having an absolute stinker.

“Can Ange last?”

Co-host Jason Cundy pointed out that their next fixture is against a resurgent Wolves under Vitor Pereira, who have won their last two games.

O’Hara continued: “Watching Tottenham is painful. Every time we go forward we look exciting, but our defending is abysmal. Full-backs getting caught out of possession high up the pitch.

“Carry on being stubborn and you’re going to get the sack, I don’t care how far you go.

“You can’t be 11th in the table.”

The former Tottenham defender then named the Premier League manager he wants the club to go after.

He added: “I’m starting to come around to the fact that we should nick Fulham’s manager Marco Silva. He’s good. They are organised, have a structure. They haven’t got world beaters, but they have good players.

“All I’m saying is I don’t know if Big Ange can carry on. You can’t lose nine out of 18 games and be the Tottenham manager and get away with it.

“It can’t continue.”

Postecoglou himself faced the media after that defeat to Forest and his press conference lasted just two minutes.

The Australian said: "We are asking a lot of this group of players, a lot of these guys are playing every three days.

"It's only logical they are not going to be at their sharpest, but they are trying.

"It's obviously disappointing to be beaten. It was never going to be a game with too many chances, I thought we had a fair chance where we could have got something out of the game.

"But it was always going to be a tight game here.

"A disappointing goal we conceded, but aside from that the boys worked hard and we tried to generate as many opportunities as we could considering the context of the game and how Forest play. We just couldn't get over the line."

Tottenham's Boxing Day defeat at Nottingham Forest leaves them with four defeats from their last five Premier League matches ahead of their visit of Wolves on Sunday afternoon.

Their current run of form has seen Ange Postecoglou's side drop into the bottom half of the Premier League table into 11th place, where they sit two points adrift of the top 10 following the Boxing Day fixtures.

Spurs return to their home stadium for Sunday's match, where they have picked up just one point from their last four league games in front of their home fans.

They take on a Wolves side who have won two out of two games since their new manager, Vito Pereira, joined the club from Saudi Arabia, notably securing a 2-0 victory over Manchester United on Boxing Day to follow on from their 3-0 win at Leicester last weekend.

Back-to-back league victories has seen the West Midlands side climb out of the relegation zone for the first time since the opening day of the season, where they not sit one point and one place above the drop zone, and just two points behind 15th.

Only Leicester have conceded more goals away from home than Wolves in the Premier League this season, which doesn't bode well for them coming up against a Tottenham side who are just one goal shy of being the league's top scorers this season.

Wolves have won four of their last five matches against Tottenham, including each of their last three, with two wins from their last three visits to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

'It was ridiculous' - Tottenham match featuring Erling Haaland's dad was abandoned after 15 minutes

Football and travel chaos seem to go hand-in-hand over winter, but no one’s had it quite as bad as Tottenham fans in 1996.

Even in modern football with heated pitches, games can still be cancelled, and at the very least that decision is made ahead of time.

However, back at the start of the Premier League era, the decision to suspend a match was called not 15 minutes beforehand, but 15 minutes after kick off.

It wasn’t as if Spurs fans didn’t have to travel far, either, as the infamous FA Cup fifth round tie was against Nottingham Forest.

The distance from Spurs’ White Hart Lane to the City Ground was a whole 125 miles, or three hours on a day without snow. Unfortunately on February 19, there was plenty.

The weather began to change an hour before kick off when snow started falling, but forecasts back then weren’t good enough to predict the chaos that was about to unfold.

Just ten minutes into the clash a blizzard hit the City Ground, and five minutes later things became unbearable.

Officials attempted to salvage things by swapping the standard white ball for an orange winter one, but even those efforts were vain.

The pitch’s white lines soon blended into their new background and the only decision left for referee Gary Willard to take was a suspension.

Speaking at the time, Tottenham manager Gerry Francis said: "It became impossible.

“Everyone on the line would have got pneumonia if they had stayed out any longer. We would have turned into snowmen.

"No arguments, it had become ridiculous. I’m disappointed, of course, because we had started well."

His opposite number at Forest, Frank Clark, was in agreement, saying: "There was nothing else that the referee could do tonight.

"I have not seen a snowstorm like it since I was a boy in the North-east."

However, there may have been one disagreement, with Francis concerned whether a booking for Jason Dozzell would stand.

"If there had been a goal, it would not have counted," he said.

Luckily for Francis, he was able to duck for cover in the City Ground’s tunnel to speak to the press, but the same couldn’t be said for his team’s supporters.

The match became part of Tottenham folklore with talks of epic journeys back to London through thick and treacherous snow.

The match contained a number of Premier League greats like Sol Campbell, Teddy Sheringham and Kevin Campell, while on the bench was Alf Inge Haaland, a man infinitely more famous now thanks to his already iconic son.

The FA managed to re-arrange the match just nine days later, and it was a 2-2 draw in far better conditions, with Ian Woan and Chris Armstrong both netting doubles.

However, Spurs fans thinking they might finally get a reward for their February 19th struggles were left disappointed by the return leg in London, as Forest qualified for the next round with a win on penalties.

'Come here' - Tottenham starlet told to join Leicester City and learn from Jamie Vardy

Leicester loan star Facundo Buonanotte wants to see a Tottenham forward join him so they can rekindle their partnership.

The Argentine talent is himself on loan from Brighton, but is keen for his ex-Rosario Central teammate to make the move to the King Power.

Currently, 21-year-old striker Alejo Veliz is on loan at Espanyol from Spurs but only has four goals in 15 appearances.

And just one of those strikes was in LaLiga with his side sitting in the relegation zone with just four wins all season.

That form has led to rumours that his loan deal could be terminated.

Buonanotte believes his ex-teammate should make a loan move to Leicester having played together 24 times with Rosario Central, and once for Argentina's Under-20s.

And he reckons one man in particular could help Veliz reignite his faltering career.

“I would tell Tanque [Alejo] Véliz to come here to learn from Jamie Vardy," he told Ole.

"He is on loan, but now he is at Tottenham, so I think he knows about this. During the time we were at Central we made a nice duo."

Veliz joined Tottenham in a deal worth around £13million in August 2023, but struggled for game time.

He scored just once last season in a 4-2 loss to Brighton and after a spell out injured, also had a six-game loan spell with Sevilla.

There he wore the No.10 jersey once worn by Diego Maradona, but in the summer was sent on loan to Espanyol to get his career back on track.

Vardy might just be the man to help given his stunning record in the Premier League.

From non-league beginnings, the Englishman became of the country's best forwards thanks to his electric pace and powerful finishing.

In total, he's scored 142 Premier League goals with Leicester and helped them win a historic title in 2015/16.

An underrated part of his game is also his ability to play in teammates.

That has seen him assist in the English top-flight on 47 occasions - one more than England captain Harry Kane.

Leicester are currently 17th in the Premier League and in a real battle to survive the threat of relegation on their return.

The club recently sacked Steve Cooper and replaced him with legendary Manchester United and Real Madrid striker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

That could be another tempting prospect for Veliz, especially with Buonanotte as a teammate.
