Guglielmo Vicario's injury absence could have huge implications on Tottenham's potential success this season.

The Italian underwent surgery on a fractured ankle he suffered during their 4-0 win against Manchester City on Saturday.

talkSPORT understands that Spurs fear Vicario could be out for months and they will consider signing a new goalkeeper in January.

Fraser Forster, who is 36 years old, is set to deputise in the coming weeks as Ange Postecoglou navigates around a hectic festive period.

However, should Spurs be keen for a younger face in goal, then they may look closer to home and play academy graduate Alfie Whiteman.

Whiteman joined the north London side's youth setup and even led the team out with Robbie Keane as a mascot in 2007.

And 13 years later he made his senior debut under Jose Mourinho.

The 26-year-old's first and only appearance for the club came off the bench in a 4-0 Europa League win at home to Ludogrets.

He then had two spells at Swedish top flight side Degerfors IF in 2021 and 2022 but has not featured for any other team since.

Although Whiteman has played just eight minutes of football on the pitch for Spurs, he's certainly got an interesting life off it.

DJing is one of his passions, with the goalkeeper making his debut on the London-based radio station NTS Radio earlier this year.

Psychedelic rock and soul were just two of the genres in his hour-long debut, and he told Mixmag: "This was my first time doing a live show.

"Before this, I was just making mixes and playlists on my laptop and sharing them with friends."

Whiteman added: "I've always had a deep interest in listening to and discovering new music, so I was grateful for this opportunity."

His taste in music covers a wide range of artists and bands as, when asked by Spurs who he'd like to see live, he said: "I’d love to see Radiohead, I think they’d be great.

"But if I could choose anyone at all, I’d probably say Al Green. There are loads, it’s a long list and people like Nina Simone and Miles Davis at the height of the jazz scene would have been incredible.

"And I would rather have seen them perform at a small intimate club than a big venue."

Whiteman extended his love of music to the younger community in March by visiting Project 2020 in Northumberland Park.

The Haringey Council scheme offers a safe space and activities for 11 to 19-year-olds, with the Spurs man performing an unscripted DJ set.

Away from the decks, Whiteman is also keen to appear with and in front of the camera with his photography and modelling.

Featured on his personal Instagram page are a series of snaps of talent, as well as pictures of his parents on their wedding day.

Whiteman is also represented by London-based modelling agency Storm Management, who have showcased his poses on Instagram.

In August 2021, aged 22, he signed for Degerfors for the first time and made 13 appearances towards the end of their campaign.

A return to the club was sealed in February the following year and he played another 21 matches, with Whiteman opting for a different style of accommodation.

"I was living in a very small town, 20,000 people, so it was quite a stark change to London," he told Spurs' Off The Shelf podcast.

"I've grown up in London, in the city. Like Sweden, my mum is half-Finnish so I've been to Finland, Sweden had similarities and it's beautiful, the forests, the lakes and everything.

"I was there all alone and no one could visit because of travel restrictions from COVID and I was like, 'I'll make the most of this situation'.

"I went on Airbnb and found this cabin near the training ground. It had a sauna, the water would come from the lake and it had a jetty to the lake, the toilet was like a hole, and it was really good.

"I would make a fire and sit outside, and the winter came and it got really tricky, it gets really cold in Sweden. Then I went back, so I did one stint because their seasons are different, they do it throughout the year.

"So I did half a season, came back in January, managers have changed, a new manager, came back, I was like, 'I'm going to go back on loan, go do a whole season.'

"Went back to Sweden for a second time because the first time I went to that cabin twice but it was winter, the second time is when I committed.

"My teammates were like, 'Are we going to find out that there's going to be a documentary and you have to cover all these bodies they found?' I was like, 'No, no!' But it was great, it was a new experience."

Whiteman hasn't been named in any of Spurs' squads this season but could be given the nod by Postecoglou whilst Vicario is out.

They face Roma, live on talkSPORT 2 on Thursday, and Rangers in the Europa League before the end of the year amongst various Premier League clashes.

Fulham, Newcastle and Liverpool are just some of the tests to come, as well as huge home fixture against rivals Chelsea.

A Carabao Cup quarter-final tie with Manchester United is also on the agenda as Spurs brace themselves for numerous tough matchups.

The experienced Foster may well be the starting goalkeeper during this time, but Whiteman could have a chance of playing himself as he rivals Brandon Austin for the No.2 spot.

Chelsea are considering a summer swoop to re-sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

Guehi came through the academy ranks at Chelsea before completing an £18million move to Palace in the summer of 2021 having found first-team opportunities limited.

The England international is out of contract at the end of next season, which has alerted the Blues to the fact he could be available for a cut-price fee next summer.

Guehi is said to be in no rush to commit to a new deal at Selhurst Park in anticipation of interest from top six clubs in the summer.

The centre-back was wanted by Newcastle after starring for England at the Euros, but the Magpies could not agree a fee with Palace.

Foxes chief takes the reins

Leicester owner Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha will take more of a lead role in the club’s search for a new manager after being left unimpressed by the appointment of Steve Cooper.

As previously reported by talkSPORT, Top had reservations about hiring former Nottingham Forest boss Cooper right from the start of his tenure, but backed the judgement of long-serving director of football Jon Rudkin.

Top made the decision personally to fire Cooper in the wake of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea.

And, while not the deciding factor, sources have told talkSPORT he was unimpressed with the 44-year-old’s scathing post-match attack on referee Andrew Madley.

The Thai businessman, who consulted senior Leicester players before making his decision to axe Cooper, had Graham Potter top of his wish-list to replace Enzo Maresca last summer but could not get the deal over the line.

With Potter again ruling himself out, former Manchester United interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy and West Brom’s Carlos Corberan are two of the leading candidates to succeed Cooper.

Once the new man is in place, Top also plans to have a major input in

recruitment when the January window opens, with funds expected to be made available to fund Leicester’s Premier League survival bid.

Cunha stance revealed amid red-hot streak

Wolves have promised manager Gary O’Neil they will NOT cash in on star man Matheus Cunha in January, according to talkSPORT sources.

Cunha has started the season in sparkling form, scoring seven goals and providing three assists, including a brilliant double in Saturday’s 4-1 demolition of Fulham to ease the pressure on O’Neil.

The Brazilian’s impressive displays have put him on the radar of clubs

including Manchester United and Tottenham, while he has also been scouted by several top European teams.

Wolves have become a selling club in recent transfer windows and allowed both Pedro Neto and Max Kilman to depart for Chelsea and West Ham respectively in the summer, leaving O’Neil shorthanded heading into a daunting set of early season fixtures.

But director of football Matt Hobbs is understood to have told O’Neil they do not plan to cash in on any more of their prized assets this winter.

O’Neil was fighting to save his job after supporters turned on him following a ten-match winless start to the campaign.

But the hierarchy are more relaxed about his position after back-to-back victories over Southampton and Fulham either side of the international break.

Tottenham are considering delving into the market for a new goalkeeper in January amid fears Guglielmo Vicario faces months of the sidelines.

A double from James Maddison and goals from Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson saw Spurs continue their incredible record against the Premier League champions with a convincing victory at the Etihad Stadium.

It was Tottenham’s sixth victory in their last 13 games against Pep Guardiola’s men – a record few others can boast in an era of Manchester City dominance.

Lifelong City fan Gallagher admits that the last thing his side needed was a meeting with Spurs in the midst of their poor form.

City went into Saturday’s clash on the back of four-consecutive defeats and a glut of injuries to key players and the visit of Ange Postecoglou’s would not have been high up on the list for City fans.

“The whole entire thing seems to have fallen off a cliff but if we hadn’t won four leagues in a row, I’d be worried,” said Gallagher.

“This is an inevitable drop off of maybe five or ten per cent and on Saturday, the one team we don’t want to play as City fans after four defeats in a row is Tottenham at home.

“They do it to us every time they come there, they’re the biggest frauds in the football league.

“They’ll get battered by Fulham at the weekend, no problem. But they always turn up for us.

“I wasn’t expecting to win that game, I certainly wasn’t expecting to lose but 4-0 was a shocker.”

The Oasis star continued: “Last season when we played Villa away it was a terrible performance. You’re beaten by the better team and you hold your hands up.

“To be beaten by the better team five games in a row is like wow.

“Pep as we know says one thing to the camera and another thing to the players in the dressing room.

“I’d be very interested to see what the atmosphere is like.”

While Gallagher admits that injuries and loss of form are hampering the reigning Premier League champions, an over-reliance on star striker Erling Haaland is proving counter-productive following the summer sale of Julian Alvarez.

“To have Haaland as your only source of goals, you’re asking for it really,” Gallagher added. “I know it’s going to be difficult to buy a forward who knows he’s going to be playing second fiddle to Haaland.

“We’ve always had an Alvarez or a [Riyad] Mahrez chipping in and Phil [Foden] last season.”

Despite City’s struggles, Gallagher revealed that the atmosphere around the Etihad remains positive despite enduring the longest losing streak in Guardiola’s tenure which has seen City fall eight point adrift of leaders Liverpool ahead of Sunday’s trip to Anfield.

“The mood on the terraces, I can tell you, is that everyone’s behind the team,” he said.

“It’s just that we’ve hit a wall at the minute and they are going to have to play themselves through it

“The players have lost form and the players that are there to replace the players that have lost form, are injured.

“It’s one of those things, we’ve got to suck it up and play through it.”

Tottenham will consider signing a new goalkeeper in January following the injury to Guglielmo Vicario, talkSPORT understands.

He played 60 minutes with a broken ankle against Man City on Saturday, a game which Tottenham won 4-0.

The Italian picked up a knock on his ankle around the half-hour mark but he went on to play the full game and make five saves.

Nothing seemed too noticeable at the time, although as he left the Etihad, he was spotted limping away from the dressing room.

And then on Monday afternoon, Tottenham announced that he had suffered a serious injury and was forced to undergo surgery.

A statement read: "We can confirm that Guglielmo Vicario has today undergone surgery for a fracture of his right ankle.

"Guglielmo will be assessed by our medical staff to determine when he can return to training. We're all behind you, Vic."

Then later on the same day, Vicario himself posted an update and revealed more details about his ankle problem.

The shot-stopper confirmed that he suffered the fracture during their win over Man City, playing on for an hour after the injury.

He wrote on Instagram: "Sometimes football gives you its highs, and sometimes it challenges you in ways you don’t expect.

"I played 60 minutes at the Etihad with a broken bone in my ankle, giving absolutely everything I had for the team. Unfortunately, there was no way around this one...I needed surgery.

"I’m disappointed I won’t be able to help the team for a while.

"A massive thank you to the doctors and the staff. The operation went well, and from tomorrow I’ll be working hard to come back stronger, fitter, and ready to give my all for you again.

"Thank you to the Spurs fans for all the love. See you soon on the pitch."

So, Vicario looks set for a potentially long spell on the sidelines with what looks to be a serious injury.

Kyle Walker has been offered a harsh reminder his career at the top level may be over after a tough game against former employers Tottenham.

Spurs claimed a historic 4-0 win at the Etihad to plunge Pep Guardiola further into crisis as his losing streak was extended to five games.

The home side's defence was pulled apart with ease by Ange Postecoglou's men.

And Walker in particular had a tough game and was seriously exposed in the game's dying embers.

Fellow pace merchant Timo Werner ran at the 34-year-old England right-back, but unusually he had no response.

The German slipped behind him and crossed for Brennan Johnson to round off the scoring for Tottenham.

Once able to hit a top speed of 36.5kph his fastest recorded speed this season is 28.9kph, creating a serious issue for the full-back, who may well now lose his place in Guardiola's first-team.

And former Chelsea star Tony Cascarino believes Walker's swift decline reminded him of an iconic moment in Champions League history.

He told the Weekend Sports Breakfast: “There's things that are going to happen now, I believe, and Pep even alluded to it yesterday after the game where he said he would have to break things up.

“The changes are going to come because he'll protect his players for now because he'll say the right things because he's been so successful with them.

“But deep down I believe that when he had the meeting in Dubai, or wherever it was with the owners of the club, there would have been the conversations about where they move forward because this has been a very difficult run for them.

“Yesterday we saw something like that moment in 2010 when I saw Gareth Bale absolutely, over a space of a couple of weeks, run Maicon the great Brazilian full-back [ragged] and that was like the end of his career.

“At that time before Tottenham played Inter Milan. He was one of the greatest full-backs in the world, not only in Europe.

“Kyle Walker's there now because Kyle Walker's had a very difficult time.

“Kaoru Mitoma in the previous game at Brighton gave him loads of problems and this has been a bit of a common theme.

“Yesterday watching Kyle Walker against Timo Werner, Kyle Walker's definitely lost half a yard. He's definitely lost probably more than that.

“He's still quick but Timo Werner, it was an embarrassing moment for him because he actually said to him ‘you put the ball in that area I'm going to get there first’ and he didn't."

Esteemed journalist Henry Winter agreed and pinpointed who should replace him.

Speaking on the Sunday Edition, he added: "He’s 34 and is an amazingly defiant individual. The point that Cas [Tony Cascarino] was making earlier that he’s lost that yard of pace.

"Timo Werner was fresh, and Walker had played 80 minutes, but I think Rico Lewis has to play there.

"At some point City are going to have to rebuild the next Pep team."

Cascarino, though, was keen to point out that Walker was not the only one having a tough time in City's horror run.

"Kyle Walker isn't the only problem," he added. "It's just one that's quite obvious.”

“At the moment there's people like Gündogan has not come back the player he was Bernardo Silva's playing way below what he's capable of way below. He's a terrific footballer.

“Phil Foden - 24 years old. What is Phil's excuse? You know, the Football Writers’ Player of the Year last season. The player that went with England to the Euros with expectations on him to deliver.

“He's lost his England place and now I'm watching Phil play nowhere near what we know and he's got no excuse. He's 24, unless he's got an injury we don't know about or he's carrying something.

“That's why I'm giving Phil the benefit of the doubt.

"He's unrecognisable at the moment from the player that was at the end of last season and you could add others to that list but they are struggling.”

Jamie O'Hara had plenty to say after Tottenham Hotspur's rampant 4-0 win at Manchester City.

'Spurs are back' was the infamous phrase declared by ex-Tottenham midfielder O'Hara as the goals flooded in at the Etihad on Saturday evening.

O'Hara claimed 'Spurs are back' on talkSPORT, whilst his co-host Jason Cundy insisted 'learn from your mistakes, mate'.

'That's a big goal you know' added O'Hara on the second goal. Cundy retorted, 'don't be giving it all that Jay'.

"I'm excited. Come on, that football is the best football you've seen this season," O'Hara said.

Cundy replied: "It's great Jay, you lost to Ipswich, you lost to Palace, just calm your skin down.

"It's the best performance I've seen from Spurs in years," added O'Hara.

"Two weeks ago you got humbled by Ipswich!" Cundy pointed out.

It was the perfect birthday present for James Maddison, who scored a brace over the champions on his 28th birthday.

Maddison opened the scoring 13 minutes into play, volleying in a cross from Dejan Kulesevski in the six yard box just minutes before he doubled the visitor's lead. Heung-min Son picked out Maddison in the box with a neat pass to allow him to dink past Ederson for a second inside 20 minutes.

After the break there was little change from a dismal defensive display from Man City, with John Stones making way for Nathan Ake. Ange Postecoglou's side added another two goals in the second half, with Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson getting on the scoreboard.

It is now five games in a row which Man City have lost across all competitions, and three successive defeats in the top-flight for Pep Guardiola's side.

Guardiola had never before lost a home league game by four goals in his managerial career and the loss matches the joint-biggest defeat in his history as a boss.

The defeat came after Rodri's Ballon d'Or presentation ceremony at the Etihad, featuring a light show that appeared to delay kick-off for the game.

The midfielder showed off the award to the crowd at the Etihad Stadium prior to kick-off. His name was draped across the pitch and on lights behind him, he waved to supporters as part of a lavish pre-match ceremony which began ten minutes before kick-off.

Man City next face Feyenoord in the Champions League on Tuesday, whilst Tottenham host Roma in the Europa League on Thursday.

A 4-0 defeat to Tottenham wasn't what Pep Guardiola had in mind when it came to celebrating his new Manchester City contract.

Guardiola inked a two-year extension to stay at City on Thursday to put an end to speculation regarding his future.

The Spaniard's new deal will also take his stint at the Etihad to over a decade once it expires in 2027.

City's fixture against Tottenham on Saturday provided the perfect opportunity for Guardiola to cap off the week in style.

However, Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham side evidently did not read the script.

James Maddison struck twice in the space of seven minutes in the first half before Pedro Porro smashed home a third early in the second half to set Tottenham well on their way to victory.

Brennan Johnson provided the icing on the cake in the 93rd minute when he slid home Timo Werner's cross to complete the four-goal rout.

The result left the City faithful in a stunned silence as they could not believe what was transpiring before their eyes.

As for the travelling Tottenham fans, they couldn't help but poke fun as Guardiola became the target of their mocking.

In fact, Tottenham supporters were heard chanting to Guardiola: "You're getting sacked in the morning".

Given Guardiola just signed his new contract, it's a safe bet to say the City board won't heed Tottenham supporters' call.

However, the 4-0 defeat to Tottenham marked the first time Guardiola had lost three Premier League games on the bounce.

It was also City's fifth-straight defeat, the most consecutive defeats Guardiola has ever overseen during his managerial career.

If the record-breaking runs of losses weren't enough, Tottenham's 4-0 thrashing was the heaviest defeat Guardiola has suffered at home during his City stint.

As for Postecoglou, it was the second time in the space of a month he had out-witted Guardiola after Tottenham knocked City out of the Carabao Cup with a 2-1 victory on October 30.

Luckily for City, the defeat to Tottenham didn't dislodge them from second place, as they remain on 23 points.

But if Liverpool beat Southampton on Sunday, Guardiola's side could end up being eight points behind the Reds.

Guardiola and his City squad have proven multiple times they can overcome serious points deficits in the past.

But with their star midfielder Rodri gone for the majority of the season and other key players coming in and out of the casualty ward, Guardiola will have his work cut out if he is to lead City to an unprecedented fifth-straight Premier League crown.

On that occasion, Everton raced into a two-goal lead after just 19 minutes in Manchester.

Goals from Tim Cahill and Leighton Baines that day set the Toffees on their way to a 2-1 victory.

In the 14 years since, City have won eight Premier League titles, with six coming under Guardiola.

The Spaniard has lifted 12 other trophies during his tenure, including the Champions League and Club World Cup.

However, he has so far had to settle for unwanted history this term.

His side's loss to the Seagulls a fortnight ago marked the first time in his managerial career he had lost four matches in a row.

It was also the first time in 18 years City had suffered so many consecutive defeats.

Meanwhile, Saturday's loss also means they have lost three league matches in a row under Guardiola for the first time.

The former Bayern Munich manager had previously been beaten in three straight matches during his time in charge of the German giants.

Pep Guardiola is in uncharted territory.

For the first time in his managerial career, the Catalan has lost four games in a row in all competitions. A fifth straight defeat this weekend would further damage Manchester City’s Premier League title chances.

As things stand, Guardiola’s side are still very much in the race. They are second in the standings and have a better record after 11 games than 18 teams in the division.

Liverpool have been superior to City so far, but a five-point lead is hardly insurmountable with more than two-thirds of the campaign remaining.

The champions head to Anfield next weekend. A win there would bring City right back into the conversation.

Moreover, Guardiola’s team have not been the fastest starters over the last couple of seasons. In both 2022/23 and 2023/24, City came from behind to take the title from under Arsenal’s noses. This is a side which tends to come on strong after Christmas.

Yet anyone who has watched City lately can sense that all is not well. The loss of Rodri to a season-ending injury is proving to be an even bigger blow than anticipated. Put simply, City are a worse team on both sides of the ball without the imperious Ballon d’Or holder.

There are other issues too. City only signed two players in the summer: Savinho from sister side Girona and the returning Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona. More fresh blood would have been welcome.

City have looked a little old and tired of late. They are not playing with the intensity we are used to seeing from them. After winning so much, perhaps this group’s hunger has dulled ever so slightly.

The uncertainty over Guardiola’s future (his contract is due to expire next year) and the 115 Premier League charges hanging over the club are surely not helping either.

A handsome win here would get City’s title tilt back on track. But with Liverpool likely to beat Southampton on Sunday, any more dropped points for the champions would make Arne Slot’s side clear title favourites.

Ange Postecoglou’s side might just be the most inconsistent side in the Premier League. Take a look at their last eight results in the Premier League: loss, win, win, loss, win, loss, win, loss.

Spurs have been particularly unreliable on the road. Only four teams have worse records at opposition grounds.

Each of City’s four consecutive defeats came away from the Etihad Stadium, including a 2-1 loss to Spurs in the EFL Cup. They remain extremely tough to beat on their own patch.

Tottenham are an attack-minded team under Postecoglou and we like their chances of finding the net here. Avoiding defeat is a much bigger ask.

Tottenham are the Premier League’s entertainers. Not only do they play some of the most attractive football in the division, they usually give their opponents a chance too.

Tottenham’s 11 matches this season have featured 36 goals. Only games involving Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers have contained more.

Manchester City are giving up plenty of big chances without Rodri, so Tottenham are capable of causing problems in transition with the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-min and Brennan Johnson.

Given his team’s defensive vulnerabilities without their midfield shield, Guardiola may conclude that attack is the best form of defence.

The good news for the neturals is that this promises to be an enjoyable, end-to-end encounter.

Although a dose of pragmatism would probably benefit this Tottenham team, Postecoglou has made it clear that he will not abandon his principles.

Spurs will have less of the ball than usual simply because they are facing Manchester City, but they will continue to play on the front foot whenever possible.

That includes defending high up the pitch, an approach which Erling Haaland will be licking his lips about.

The Norway international, who scored a hat-trick for his country against Kazakhstan last Sunday, excels at running in behind opposition backlines.

With 12 league goals to his name already this season, Haaland is likely to strike again this weekend.
