Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has been talking about winning the Carabao Cup with the Toon.

The forward scored the second in the 2-1 win over Liverpool at Wembley earlier in March, and along with his teammates, added his name to Newcastle's history forever.

The moment he connected with Jacob Murphy's header to flash the ball into the net will be replayed over and over again for years by Magpies fans as the club ended it's 70-year domestic trophy drought.

There is an enormous parade planned this weekend, where Isak will join all his teammates and likely hundreds of thousands of people to celebrate the achievement, and after enjoying a fine international break with Sweden, the striker has been speaking about winning the Carabao Cup.

He said: “You cannot describe it, almost every fan I looked up at in Wembley was crying.

“There were so many emotions in my head, it was almost surreal. The best day of my life? From a football perspective I think so.

“The party was incredible – although not too long for me as I was leaving in the morning – and I can’t wait to see what Newcastle is like as a city after that.”

'Clear conflict of interest'

The Chelsea Supporters' Trust has written to Premier League boss Richard Masters calling for an investigation into the club's co-owner Todd Boehly.

The open letter that has been sent in response to reports of Boehly's connections with ticket exchange and resale company Vivid Seats.

Alongside his role at Chelsea, the American is a director at Vivid Seats which is a website that allows the resale of Premier League tickets for prices well above face value.

Within the long letter, the CST call Boehly's connection with the company 'totally inappropriate' and claim it 'significantly undermines the efforts of Chelsea FC, The Premier League, and The Metropolitan Police to combat ticket touting'.

A CST spokesperson added: "Vivid Seats continues to list Premier League tickets for above face value at significantly inflated rates and our members have continued to indicate that Mr Boehly's connection with Vivid Seats is a breach of trust and a clear conflict of interest.

"Not only does this undermine the efforts of Chelsea FC, the Premier League, and the Metropolitan Police to combat ticket touting, but Vivid Seats contravenes the Chelsea FC ticketing policy, and is explicitly named by the Premier League as a known unauthorised ticket website.

"We believe that now is the time for the Premier League to act swiftly and ensure that a major shareowner of a Premier League club ceases facilitating the sale of tickets for significantly above face value."

Chelsea declined to comment when approached by talkSPORT.

Sensational reunion

Ex-Celtic and Tottenham star Victor Wanyama looks set to join Scottish Championship side Dunfermline Athletic.

According to reports in Scotland, Wanyama is undergoing a medical to make a sensational return to the country.

The Kenyan just spent four years in Canada with CF Montreal, featuring in the MLS and playing over 140 games for the club.

He hadn't found a team since his contract expired on January 1 of this year, but now he's going to reunite with an old manager.

Neil Lennon was in charge of Celtic when Wanyama spent two years there, making 91 appearances in total.

Now, Lennon is manager of Dunfermline, and he's going to bring the 33-year-old midfielder back to Scotland.

Wanyama will be joining a side that are battling for safety in the Scottish second-tier, sitting ninth in a 10-team league.

His introduction will provide a wealth of experience that should help boost their chances of survival.

Stear-ing Swansea to safety

Swansea have announced that caretaker manager Alan Sheehan will be remaining in his role until the end of the season.

Sheehan was given the interim position following Luke Williams' sacking in February, but now he's staying on despite only winning two of his six games in charge.

He has added two new faces to his coaching staff following the announcement and fans will recognise the names.

Ex-Premier League defender Richard Stearman, who made over 200 appearances for Wolves, has left his post as assistant at Solihull Moors to join Swansea.

And former Huddersfield manager Mark Fotheringham has also joined Sheehan's backroom team.

Fotheringham was Terriers boss for four months in 2022/23 before being sacked after only winning five of 21 games in charge.

They will hope to help the club steer clear of the Championship relegation battle, as they sit 16th and six points off the drop zone.

Eyeing Isak

Newcastle are braced for a major assault from Liverpool on their star striker Alexander Isak.

Various sources have told talkSPORT that Isak features prominently on Liverpool’s list of targets, even if Mohamed Salah decides to stay.

While suggestions of a possible swap deal involving Darwin Nunez have been played down, there are other players Liverpool could be willing to bring into negotiations.

Newcastle were close to signing Joe Gomez last summer.

Jarrell Quansah also was touted as a potential makeweight when the Reds were trying to pry Anthony Gordon away from St James Park.

The Magpies plan to hold contract talks with Isak at the end of the season but realise the Swede will be hot property after scoring 50 goals in just 77 Premier League games.

With doubts over Isak’s future and Callum Wilson expected to depart, Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell has registered an interest in soon-to-be free agent Jonathan David.

But the Magpies will have competition for the Canada international, with Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and West Ham among the clubs also linked with an interest.

Early return?

Reports are suggesting that Arsenal could have Bukayo Saka back for their next Premier League game.

The England international has been out of action since December after undergoing hamstring surgery.

However, Arsenal journalist Charles Watts is reporting that Saka might be fit to feature against Fulham next Tuesday.

This would be a huge boost for the Gunners, who have crashed out of both domestic cups and basically lost all hope of winning the Premier League title in his absence.

They are still in the Champions League and face Real Madrid next month, so getting him fully fit for those two matches would be the aim.

Ruled out

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has confirmed that Raphinha will not play in their next game against Osasuna.

Raphinha was involved in chaos during Brazil's humiliating 4-1 loss to Argentina last night, being held back as he vented his anger.

He now won't be involved for Barca as domestic action returns on Thursday night, to continue his woes.

However, Flick has made the decision to leave him out to benefit his star, as he will not have had enough rest before featuring.

Brazil's defeat came on Tuesday night and Barca's clash with Osasuna will be taking place tomorrow evening.

Speaking on the winger and his teammate, Ronald Araujo, the boss said: “Araujo and Raphinha will NOT play against Osasuna.

“The journey is too long and they need rest”.

Immediate agreement

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed some extra details about Trent Alexander-Arnold's move to Real Madrid.

In the latest episode of the Here We Go podcast, Romano reported that Alexander-Arnold immediately accepted a non-negotiable demand set by Real.

He said: “My understanding from Real Madrid’s side is that this is not going to be a salary as one of the best-paid players at Real Madrid.

“Vinicius is negotiating a new deal, Mbappe joined one year ago, Jude Bellingham is on an important contract – it’s not going to be on that part of the contract strategy at Real Madrid.

"It’s going to be obviously a very good salary, but not a crazy salary.

“This is an important point. For Real Madrid, it was very clear since day one. They told very clearly to Trent already when they had the first conversations – ‘If you want to join, it has to be on our terms. Otherwise, you can extend at Liverpool or do whatever you want’.

"Real Madrid were very clear on this point. This was the message to Trent, and Trent immediately accepted.”

Dibling demand

Southampton want over £100million for winger Tyler Dibling amid interest from Tottenham and Manchester City.

That's according to The Telegraph, who report that the Saints' huge valuation is leaving interested clubs frustrated.

Dibling has made 25 Premier League appearances and he is likely to depart St. Mary's this summer with his side set to be relegated.

Spurs and Man City are said to be looking at a potential move for the 19-year-old, but Southampton are going to stand strong.

They are expecting bids to come in, but they value their academy product at over £100million.

Manchester United, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig are also said to have scouted him regularly this season.

However, for all interested clubs, the huge valuation is sure to be a stumbling block.

Dibling, who has been a bright spark in Southampton's dismal year, has four goals and two assists to his name.

'Two top-class strikers'

Brentford defender Ben Mee has been singing the praises of Bryan Mbuemo and Yoane Wissa who have starred this season.

Mbuemo is having his best scoring campaign in the Premier League, netting 15 goals for the Bees.

And Wissa is only one behind, scoring 14 after taking on the striker role following Ivan Toney's departure.

Their teammate Mee told talkSPORT this morning: "They're two top-class strikers. Since I've been at the club, they've developed so much.

"Bryan especially, I always talk about how he was good in one game and then two or three off games.

"But last season he got better at that, got injured and this season he's been flying, he's stepped it up a level.

"Wissa was in and out of the team a bit more, playing left wing because Ivan [Toney] was playing up front.

"He doesn't stop and he doesn't stop in training either. He's a top player and he's getting the goals now which is amazing for the hard work he puts in."

Mee also spoke about Brentford's goals for the end of the season and revealed they're pushing for a place in Europe.

He said: "We want to try and get in those European places. The manager is very open about that.

"We're in an okay position at the minute [11th], but we want to push for more, we're safe this season and we want to build on that.

"We've got a good squad, we can go for more I think."

Emotional message

Former Premier League manager Aidy Boothroyd has opened up about his secret battle with Parkinson's.

Boothroyd, who managed England U21s for five years, released a statement through the League Managers Association.

His statement read: “Three years ago, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's.

“The news came as a massive shock to me, following what I expected to be my routine LMA Annual Health Assessment.

“It has taken me time to feel ready to share my diagnosis, and I have found it difficult not being completely open with people.

“Personally, my passion and love for coaching is as strong as ever, I am focusing on keeping physically fit, which is key to slowing down the progression of Parkinson's.

“I am ready to start the next chapter in my life. I would like to thank the LMA and Parkinson's UK for their support."

'How can you turn that down?'

Gabby Agbonlahor has criticised some Liverpool fans for their hostile reaction to Trent Alexander-Arnold's move.

Alexander-Arnold has split the Reds fanbase after deciding to leave Anfield to join Real Madrid on a free this summer.

However, Agbonlahor believes his decision is the right one and laid out the reasons why the right-back will have chosen to leave.

He said on talkSPORT Breakfast: "I think anybody that says anything negative about this decision is an idiot basically.

"Any Liverpool fan out there, any other fanbase...Trent has won every trophy for his boyhood club. He's got a chance to play at the biggest club in the world who have won 15 Champions Leagues.

"How can you turn that down?

"You're going to play with Mbappe, you're going to play with your mate Jude Bellingham from England at a historic club.

"Obviously, Liverpool are a very historic club, but Real Madrid, you just do not turn them down, it doesn't matter who you are.

"Players in the past that maybe have said that they have, they're lying. Real Madrid probably didn't want them. Anyone who gets the offer from Real Madrid, you go.

"Trent would never leave for any club in the Premier League, wouldn't leave for AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, wouldn't leave for Bayern Munich...I don't think he'd leave for Barcelona even with how big they are.

"Real Madrid, you don't turn them down. Football aside, lifestyle - Jude Bellingham will be telling him everything, the lifestyle as a Real Madrid player."

Unwanted history

It has been a bleak night for Brazil...

A team that featured Wolves' Matheus Cunha and Andre, Nottingham Forest's Murillo and Newcastle's Joelinton were thrashed.

They were beaten 4-1 by Argentina and made some unwanted history in the process, conceding four goals in a World Cup Qualifier for the first time ever.

Brazil lost to the reigning World Cup winners who were without Lionel Messi who sat out of this international break.

Instead, it was Premier League stars Alexis Mac Allister and Enzo Fernandez who starred.

Centre-back Marquinhos said post-match: "What we did here can't happen again. It's hard to talk about it in the heat of the moment. It's embarrassing.

"We started the game badly, far below what we could do and they're on a great run of confidence. They knew how to play smart.

"I'm sorry for our fans."

Grounds for concern

There may be a sky full of stars at Wembley in September, but there will be a pitch full of stars two hours north.

England are set to host Andorra on September 6 for a World Cup qualifier as the road to the United States, Mexico and Canada heats up.

Traditionally, the Three Lions play their international matches at the Wembley.

However, The Sun reports England's World Cup qualifier against Andorra will be played at Villa Park.

It would be the first time since a 2005 friendly against the Netherlands England's senior men's have played at the home of Premier League club Aston Villa.

The reason why England will have to play at what Villa fans would describe as their paradise is because British band Coldplay are due to play a whopping ten dates at Wembley from August 22 to September 8.

It means England are likely to require an alternative venue, with Villa Park reported to be the first in line.

The last time England played a home match outside of Wembley was on June 3 in 2024 as they beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-0 at St James' Park in Newcastle.

Ode to joy

Martin Odegaard delivered a captain's performance for Norway in their 4-2 win away at Israel in Tuesday night's World Cup qualifier.

The 26-year-old chipped in with hat-trick of assists as he deservedly scooped the man of the match award.

Odegaard's through ball for left-back David Moller Wolfe in the 39th minute saw the visitors break the deadlock at the Nagyerdei Stadion in Hungary.

After Israel equalised through Mohammad Abu Fani in the second half, Alexander Sorloth headed Norway back in front after getting on the end of Odegaard's whipped in corner.

Kristoffer Ajer then made it 3-1 to the Scandinavian outfit, before Erling Haaland grabbed his customary goal - his 40th for Norway on his 41st cap.

The Manchester City striker was found by Odegaard's delicate pass, with the towering centre-forward making no mistake with a close-range finish.

And Arsenal fans will be hoping their skipper continues his fine form into the final part of the season with matches against Fulham, Everton and Real Madrid on the horizon.

Cristian Romero is claimed to be ready to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer as Atletico Madrid eye up a potential move.

The 26-year-old has become a firm fan favourite at Spurs since joining on an initial loan deal in 2021.

But according to the Daily Mail, the defender is open to leaving north London should Ange Postecoglou's men fail to secure Champions League football.

Spurs look unlikely to secure a European Cup spot through Premier League qualification, as they sit in 14th spot with nine games remaining - 15 points off the top four.

Their only chance of competing in Europe's premier competition next season lies in winning the Europa League.

But should they fail to do so, it has been said that Romero could be interested in exploring a move away.

And Atletico are reportedly monitoring his situation ahead of a possible swoop.

Hammer time

West Ham are reportedly eyeing up a summer move for Sunderland starlet Chris Rigg.

The 17-year-old has been one of the standout players in the Championship this season having chipped in with four goals and one assist in 34 games.

And according to The Telegraph, the Hammers are lining up a move for the teenager as Graham Potter looks to bolster his midfield.

It has been reported that West Ham's rivals Tottenham are also keeping tabs on the youngster.

But it is the east London outfit that have put themselves in a strong position should they wish to formalise their interest.

No impact

Trent Alexander-Arnold's switch to Real Madrid will have no impact on Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk's future.

That's the view of ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy, who has had his say on the current contract dilemma at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold is understood to have agreed a pre-contract agreement to join Los Blancos this summer, and Liverpool fans now fear for the futures of Van Dijk and Salah, who are also a few months away from becoming free agents.

Speaking on Drive, Murphy was asked whether Alexander-Arnold's impending exit will enter Van Dijk and Salah's thinking about whether to sign new deals.

To which he said: "I don't see that, because they are both senior players who have probably already chosen what they are going to be doing.

"They'll have spoken to their family, they'll have different ideas on what they want for the last couple of years of their career.

"Mo Salah is a very different person to Virgil, I don't see them thinking, 'Ooh Trent is going, now I'm going to change my mind.'

"They're stronger characters than that, I think if you're maybe 26/27 and you're looking at the direction that the club is going and all of a sudden, let's say Virgil saw Salah and Trent go four years ago.

"Maybe then you start thinking a bit differently, but not at the age they are."

Gunning for glory

Darren Bent has had his say on the 'club vs country' argument - and it's not even a debate for him.

talkSPORT fans recently had their say on the age-old question, with 82 per cent from over 500 respondents backing club glory over national team success.

And it's the same view shared by Arsenal fan Bent, who scored four goals in 13 Three Lions appearances, who would rather the Gunners would any form of silverware over England.

Drive co-host Andy Goldstein insisted country success would mean more to him than his beloved Manchester United lifting trophies.

Labelling Goldstein as 'nuts', Bent then stated: "I want to feel euphoria for north London - and the red part of it."

Goldstein replied by asking Bent would he would take Arsenal winning the Champions League if it meant England would never win another game, to which he said: "Yeah, that's fine with me."

He then questioned Bent as to whether he would rather Arsenal win the League Cup or Europa Conference League over England ending their 59-year wait for a major tournament.

Immediately responding, Bent simply stated: "Anything. Anything. I promise you, League Cup, Conference League, anything."

Bent later clarified that his view is coming from a fan's perspective, saying: "But as a player, I'd take England over anything, I'd win the World Cup over any competition.

"To win the treble as a player or win the World Cup, I'm taking the World Cup, as a player. The World Cup is the pinnacle, but as a fan (club over country)..."

Bent-er than them all!

Darren Bent has declared he is better than ten current Premier League strikers - but conceded defeat to Newcastle star Alexander Isak.

Bent is a member of the exclusive 100 club - having scored 106 top-flight goals across six different clubs.

He hit double digits in four Premier League seasons, with his most in a single campaign being 24 for Sunderland.

His Drive co-host Andy Goldstein was keen to ask him who he believes he is better than over the current crop of Premier League strikers.

First up was Nottingham Forest's Chris Wood, who has 18 league goals this term, but Bent was quick to back himself over the New Zealand international.

Bent then rated himself higher than Tottenham duo Dominic Solanke and Richarlison, followed by Brentford's Yoane Wissa and Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins.

Arsenal duo Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus were then brushed aside by Bent, with Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta and Brighton's Joao Pedro being disregarded.

But it was Isak who Bent finally conceded to, accepting that the Sweden international is a better centre-forward than he was.

Worth the big bucks

Trent Alexander-Arnold is worth at least £100million - but there will always be question marks over his future.

That's the view of Darren Bent, who has insisted that his impending summer exit to Real Madrid will be a huge blow to Liverpool.

Commenting on his expected free transfer switch to Real, Bent said on Drive: "When it comes to contracts nowadays and the lengths of contracts, the players now have got all the power, it's as simple as that.

"Because if Liverpool knew they were going to lose him, they would probably prefer to sell him, because Trent, for a right-back the way that he plays, he's [worth] £100m, easy.

"So they would have liked to have got that, but unfortunately, it hasn't worked out that way, maybe they felt they could have convinced him to stay, but it doesn't look like they've managed to do that."

He added: "He's been absolutely outstanding, absolutely fantastic for Liverpool, but there will always be question marks about his defending."

Bent continued: "But you're never going to get someone who can give you that output going forward and then defensively be top level.

"It's very rare you get someone who can produce the goods like he does, dead ball specialist, his range of passing, his crossing, everything he does with a football is wonderful.

"And then defensively be like [Paolo] Maldini, it just doesn't happen, you're going to have to suffer somewhere."

Don't look back in anger

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has implored Liverpool fans not to boo Trent Alexander-Arnold following news that he has agreed to join Real Madrid.

Many Reds fans have taken to social media to express their anger over his decision to run his contract down and leave on a free transfer.

And Bent is hoping they don't vent their fury towards the right-back in the closing stages of the season.

He said on Drive: "These things happen, you could say that Liverpool were a little bit responsible letting him get down to that situation."

Bent added: "He's played over 340 games for Liverpool, he is a special talent and he's going to a special football club.

"Yes, he's leaving one of the big boys in European football and going to Real Madrid, I understand that, and I get Liverpool fans are like, 'Look what we've done for him.'

"That's always the argument, and I always go, 'What sort of argument is that when they do look what we've done for him,' well he's done a lot for you lot as well.

"He's scored big goals, helped you be part of a really successful period in your history, I get it, he doesn't go with your blessing.

"But don't boo him. You can't boo him in the next game."

Klopp clash

Former referee Mark Clattenburg has revealed a story of a tense confrontation with ex-Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Clattenburg recalled a moment he clashed with Klopp following a game between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.

"I had a big run in with Jürgen," he said on The Overlap.

"He was Dortmund manager and they'd just been beaten 3-0. I thought I'd had a good game, the assesor of the game from UEFA said 'You've had a good game'.

"It was Marcelo, the left back, he said if he could have a picture and I was like: 'What with me?' and he went 'Yeah, yeah'.

"I'm standing outside my dressing room and his wife was there and some of his family.

"We took the picture and Jurgen came past...

"He went: '******* hell, is that why we got beat ******* 3-0'.

"I turned round and said: 'You're ******* lucky you ******* got beat 3-0, now **** off'.

"Everybody laughed, but I was pleased I was in Real Madrid and not Dortmund as I'd have had to get out of Dortmund alive."

Ben Mee has revealed Neal Maupay’s wind-up antics against Tottenham last season didn’t go down well with the Brentford squad.

The Frenchman left Spurs' stars rattled in January 2024 when he celebrated scoring the Bees’ opening goal against them by copying James Maddison's trademark dart-throwing celebration.

Maupay gained a reputation as one of the Premier League's chief wind-up merchants during his five years in the English top-flight.

Having carved out a pantomime villain persona with his on-field antics at Brighton and Everton, the striker kept this up when he rejoined Brentford on loan for the 2023/24 season.

From appearing to clash with Kyle Walker over recent reports surrounding his family life, to poking fun at Chelsea's Robert Sanchez on social media after a derby win, Maupay's second spell in west London was certainly eventful.

And it was arguably his celebrated-fuelled spat with Maddison which provided the most in entertainment value, with the pair exchanging words on the pitch the feud escalated later on social media.

After the match, which the Bees lost 3-2, Maupay wrote online: "More goals and less relegations in my career than James Maddison.”

Despite keeping fans entertained however, Brentford defender Mee has revealed his antics managed to upset some of his teammates.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, the former Burnley star recalled: “The Spurs game I think it was, he was tweeting after the game, or whatever he was doing on the coach.

“And the boys didn't like it because we got beat, and he was trying to have a laugh online or whatever.

"But it was kind of [like]: ‘Just calm it down a little bit. Do it at a different moment’.”

Though Maupay may not have left the Bees squad best pleased on this occasion, Mee revealed he had been pleasantly surprised by French forward upon becoming teammates last season.

Having spent years as direct opponents whilst a mainstay in Sean Dyche's Burnley sides, the 35-year-old admitted he had been unable to stand Maupay's relentless wind-up tactics over the years.

Mee said: “Do you know what? He was in my black book. I didn't like him at all. He was a wind up on the pitch playing against him.

“He was one of those players that I didn't like at all. So I'd love to get stuck into him.

“So when he came to Brentford I was wondering what he'd be like off the pitch. But honestly he's a top lad. He's a really good guy. Nice guy. And he just loves a wind up.

He added: “We had a little bit in training sometimes, me and him. But that's just competitive nature."

“But yeah he enjoys a wind up. And he definitely plays on it now. He just plays on it. And yeah he's a character.”

Despite growing fond of Maupay during their time as teammates, Mee did not hesitate when admitting he would have loved to dish out some strong challenges on him as an opponent.

After talkSPORT host Gabby Agbonlahor suggested the 28-year-old would have been subjected to much rougher treatment from defenders in a past era, the centre-back agreed.

Mee said: “Yeah I can definitely see that, having played against him, yeah.

"I probably would have been one of those guys. Leave one on him early doors.

“But like I say, when I got to know him, I got on with him really well. And he's actually a top guy.”

He said: “My understanding from Real Madrid’s side is that this is not going to be a salary as one of the best-paid players at Real Madrid.

“Vinicius is negotiating a new deal, Mbappe joined one year ago, Jude Bellingham is on an important contract – it’s not going to be on that part of the contract strategy at Real Madrid.

"It’s going to be obviously a very good salary, but not a crazy salary.

Dibling demand

Southampton want over £100million for winger Tyler Dibling amid interest from Tottenham and Manchester City.

That's according to The Telegraph, who report that the Saints' huge valuation is leaving interested clubs frustrated.

Dibling has made 25 Premier League appearances and he is likely to depart St. Mary's this summer with his side set to be relegated.

Spurs and Man City are said to be looking at a potential move for the 19-year-old, but Southampton are going to stand strong.

They are expecting bids to come in, but they value their academy product at over £100million.

Manchester United, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig are also said to have scouted him regularly this season.

However, for all interested clubs, the huge valuation is sure to be a stumbling block.

Dibling, who has been a bright spark in Southampton's dismal year, has four goals and two assists to his name.

'Two top-class strikers'

Brentford defender Ben Mee has been singing the praises of Bryan Mbuemo and Yoane Wissa who have starred this season.

Mbuemo is having his best scoring campaign in the Premier League, netting 15 goals for the Bees.

And Wissa is only one behind, scoring 14 after taking on the striker role following Ivan Toney's departure.

Their teammate Mee told talkSPORT this morning: "They're two top-class strikers. Since I've been at the club, they've developed so much.

"Bryan especially, I always talk about how he was good in one game and then two or three off games.

"But last season he got better at that, got injured and this season he's been flying, he's stepped it up a level.

"Wissa was in and out of the team a bit more, playing left wing because Ivan [Toney] was playing up front.

"He doesn't stop and he doesn't stop in training either. He's a top player and he's getting the goals now which is amazing for the hard work he puts in."

Mee also spoke about Brentford's goals for the end of the season and revealed they're pushing for a place in Europe.

He said: "We want to try and get in those European places. The manager is very open about that.

"We're in an okay position at the minute [11th], but we want to push for more, we're safe this season and we want to build on that.

"We've got a good squad, we can go for more I think."

Emotional message

Former Premier League manager Aidy Boothroyd has opened up about his secret battle with Parkinson's.

Boothroyd, who managed England U21s for five years, released a statement through the League Managers Association.

His statement read: “Three years ago, I was diagnosed with Parkinson's.

“The news came as a massive shock to me, following what I expected to be my routine LMA Annual Health Assessment.

“It has taken me time to feel ready to share my diagnosis, and I have found it difficult not being completely open with people.

“Personally, my passion and love for coaching is as strong as ever, I am focusing on keeping physically fit, which is key to slowing down the progression of Parkinson's.

'How can you turn that down?'

Gabby Agbonlahor has criticised some Liverpool fans for their hostile reaction to Trent Alexander-Arnold's move.

Alexander-Arnold has split the Reds fanbase after deciding to leave Anfield to join Real Madrid on a free this summer.

However, Agbonlahor believes his decision is the right one and laid out the reasons why the right-back will have chosen to leave.

He said on talkSPORT Breakfast: "I think anybody that says anything negative about this decision is an idiot basically.

"Any Liverpool fan out there, any other fanbase...Trent has won every trophy for his boyhood club. He's got a chance to play at the biggest club in the world who have won 15 Champions Leagues.

"How can you turn that down?

"You're going to play with Mbappe, you're going to play with your mate Jude Bellingham from England at a historic club.

"Obviously, Liverpool are a very historic club, but Real Madrid, you just do not turn them down, it doesn't matter who you are.

They were beaten 4-1 by Argentina and made some unwanted history in the process, conceding four goals in a World Cup Qualifier for the first time ever.

Brazil lost to the reigning World Cup winners who were without Lionel Messi who sat out of this international break.

Instead, it was Premier League stars Alexis Mac Allister and Enzo Fernandez who starred.

Centre-back Marquinhos said post-match: "What we did here can't happen again. It's hard to talk about it in the heat of the moment. It's embarrassing.

"We started the game badly, far below what we could do and they're on a great run of confidence. They knew how to play smart.

"I'm sorry for our fans."

Grounds for concern

There may be a sky full of stars at Wembley in September, but there will be a pitch full of stars two hours north.

England are set to host Andorra on September 6 for a World Cup qualifier as the road to the United States, Mexico and Canada heats up.

Traditionally, the Three Lions play their international matches at the Wembley.

However, The Sun reports England's World Cup qualifier against Andorra will be played at Villa Park.

It would be the first time since a 2005 friendly against the Netherlands England's senior men's have played at the home of Premier League club Aston Villa.

The reason why England will have to play at what Villa fans would describe as their paradise is because British band Coldplay are due to play a whopping ten dates at Wembley from August 22 to September 8.

It means England are likely to require an alternative venue, with Villa Park reported to be the first in line.

The last time England played a home match outside of Wembley was on June 3 in 2024 as they beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-0 at St James' Park in Newcastle.

Ode to joy

Martin Odegaard delivered a captain's performance for Norway in their 4-2 win away at Israel in Tuesday night's World Cup qualifier.

The 26-year-old chipped in with hat-trick of assists as he deservedly scooped the man of the match award.

Odegaard's through ball for left-back David Moller Wolfe in the 39th minute saw the visitors break the deadlock at the Nagyerdei Stadion in Hungary.

After Israel equalised through Mohammad Abu Fani in the second half, Alexander Sorloth headed Norway back in front after getting on the end of Odegaard's whipped in corner.

Kristoffer Ajer then made it 3-1 to the Scandinavian outfit, before Erling Haaland grabbed his customary goal - his 40th for Norway on his 41st cap.

The Manchester City striker was found by Odegaard's delicate pass, with the towering centre-forward making no mistake with a close-range finish.

And Arsenal fans will be hoping their skipper continues his fine form into the final part of the season with matches against Fulham, Everton and Real Madrid on the horizon.

No impact

Trent Alexander-Arnold's switch to Real Madrid will have no impact on Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk's future.

That's the view of ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy, who has had his say on the current contract dilemma at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold is understood to have agreed a pre-contract agreement to join Los Blancos this summer, and Liverpool fans now fear for the futures of Van Dijk and Salah, who are also a few months away from becoming free agents.

Speaking on Drive, Murphy was asked whether Alexander-Arnold's impending exit will enter Van Dijk and Salah's thinking about whether to sign new deals.

To which he said: "I don't see that, because they are both senior players who have probably already chosen what they are going to be doing.

"They'll have spoken to their family, they'll have different ideas on what they want for the last couple of years of their career.

"Mo Salah is a very different person to Virgil, I don't see them thinking, 'Ooh Trent is going, now I'm going to change my mind.'

"They're stronger characters than that, I think if you're maybe 26/27 and you're looking at the direction that the club is going and all of a sudden, let's say Virgil saw Salah and Trent go four years ago.

"Maybe then you start thinking a bit differently, but not at the age they are."

Gunning for glory

Darren Bent has had his say on the 'club vs country' argument - and it's not even a debate for him.

talkSPORT fans recently had their say on the age-old question, with 82 per cent from over 500 respondents backing club glory over national team success.

And it's the same view shared by Arsenal fan Bent, who scored four goals in 13 Three Lions appearances, who would rather the Gunners would any form of silverware over England.

Drive co-host Andy Goldstein insisted country success would mean more to him than his beloved Manchester United lifting trophies.

Labelling Goldstein as 'nuts', Bent then stated: "I want to feel euphoria for north London - and the red part of it."

Goldstein replied by asking Bent would he would take Arsenal winning the Champions League if it meant England would never win another game, to which he said: "Yeah, that's fine with me."

He then questioned Bent as to whether he would rather Arsenal win the League Cup or Europa Conference League over England ending their 59-year wait for a major tournament.

Immediately responding, Bent simply stated: "Anything. Anything. I promise you, League Cup, Conference League, anything."

Bent later clarified that his view is coming from a fan's perspective, saying: "But as a player, I'd take England over anything, I'd win the World Cup over any competition.

"To win the treble as a player or win the World Cup, I'm taking the World Cup, as a player. The World Cup is the pinnacle, but as a fan (club over country)..."

Bent-er than them all!

Darren Bent has declared he is better than ten current Premier League strikers - but conceded defeat to Newcastle star Alexander Isak.

Bent is a member of the exclusive 100 club - having scored 106 top-flight goals across six different clubs.

He hit double digits in four Premier League seasons, with his most in a single campaign being 24 for Sunderland.

His Drive co-host Andy Goldstein was keen to ask him who he believes he is better than over the current crop of Premier League strikers.

First up was Nottingham Forest's Chris Wood, who has 18 league goals this term, but Bent was quick to back himself over the New Zealand international.

Bent then rated himself higher than Tottenham duo Dominic Solanke and Richarlison, followed by Brentford's Yoane Wissa and Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins.

Arsenal duo Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus were then brushed aside by Bent, with Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta and Brighton's Joao Pedro being disregarded.

But it was Isak who Bent finally conceded to, accepting that the Sweden international is a better centre-forward than he was.

Six of the best

Kevin De Bruyne and Vinicius Jr are among SIX marquee signings being plotted by the Saudi Pro League this summer, talkSPORT understands.

According to sources, the up-and-coming league are intent on making some statement signings to continue their rise in recent years.

De Bruyne is out of contract in the summer and is yet to hold talks with Manchester City over an extended stay, while Vini Jr is tied down at the Bernabeu until 2027.

The Saudi Pro League are also plotting moves for Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, Arsenal centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes and West Ham winger Mohammed Kudus.

Nunez has been linked with a move away from Anfield after a frustrating campaign in which he's scored just seven times for Arne Slot's side.

Gunners star Gabriel has two years remaining on his deal in north London, leading to admiring glances from Real Madrid and clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile Kudus has endured a frustrating year with the Hammers, scoring three and contributing just two assists all season.

Mohamed Salah is also a target, however it's understood that he's now more likely to stay in European football with Liverpool, rather than move to Saudi.

Worth the big bucks

Trent Alexander-Arnold is worth at least £100million - but there will always be question marks over his future.

That's the view of Darren Bent, who has insisted that his impending summer exit to Real Madrid will be a huge blow to Liverpool.

Commenting on his expected free transfer switch to Real, Bent said on Drive: "When it comes to contracts nowadays and the lengths of contracts, the players now have got all the power, it's as simple as that.

"Because if Liverpool knew they were going to lose him, they would probably prefer to sell him, because Trent, for a right-back the way that he plays, he's [worth] £100m, easy.

"So they would have liked to have got that, but unfortunately, it hasn't worked out that way, maybe they felt they could have convinced him to stay, but it doesn't look like they've managed to do that."

He added: "He's been absolutely outstanding, absolutely fantastic for Liverpool, but there will always be question marks about his defending."

Bent continued: "But you're never going to get someone who can give you that output going forward and then defensively be top level.

"It's very rare you get someone who can produce the goods like he does, dead ball specialist, his range of passing, his crossing, everything he does with a football is wonderful.

"And then defensively be like [Paolo] Maldini, it just doesn't happen, you're going to have to suffer somewhere."

Don't look back in anger

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has implored Liverpool fans not to boo Trent Alexander-Arnold following news that he has agreed to join Real Madrid.

Many Reds fans have taken to social media to express their anger over his decision to run his contract down and leave on a free transfer.

And Bent is hoping they don't vent their fury towards the right-back in the closing stages of the season.

He said on Drive: "These things happen, you could say that Liverpool were a little bit responsible letting him get down to that situation."

Bent added: "He's played over 340 games for Liverpool, he is a special talent and he's going to a special football club.

"Yes, he's leaving one of the big boys in European football and going to Real Madrid, I understand that, and I get Liverpool fans are like, 'Look what we've done for him.'

"That's always the argument, and I always go, 'What sort of argument is that when they do look what we've done for him,' well he's done a lot for you lot as well.

"He's scored big goals, helped you be part of a really successful period in your history, I get it, he doesn't go with your blessing.

"But don't boo him. You can't boo him in the next game."

Klopp clash

Former referee Mark Clattenburg has revealed a story of a tense confrontation with ex-Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

Clattenburg recalled a moment he clashed with Klopp following a game between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid.

"I had a big run in with Jürgen," he said on The Overlap.

"He was Dortmund manager and they'd just been beaten 3-0. I thought I'd had a good game, the assesor of the game from UEFA said 'You've had a good game'.

"It was Marcelo, the left back, he said if he could have a picture and I was like: 'What with me?' and he went 'Yeah, yeah'.

"I'm standing outside my dressing room and his wife was there and some of his family.

"We took the picture and Jurgen came past...

"He went: '******* hell, is that why we got beat ******* 3-0'.

"I turned round and said: 'You're ******* lucky you ******* got beat 3-0, now **** off'.

"Everybody laughed, but I was pleased I was in Real Madrid and not Dortmund as I'd have had to get out of Dortmund alive."

Verton-gone

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen is to call time on his football career at the end of the season.

The 37-year-old will end his playing days at Anderlecht after making over 300 appearances for Spurs over the years.

This news follows his ex-teammate in the Premier League, Toby Alderweireld, also announcing that he will retire this summer.

Vertonghen has posted a video on Instagram, saying: "During the past weeks, months, I have been thinking a lot about how I want to continue or end my career.

"This past time has made it clear that it will be my last games not only at Anderlecht but in my career.

"I've realised that it's becoming harder and harder not only in games, but also in training to get ready physically to show what I want, to be the player I want to be. Not only towards the fans, to my team-mates, but mostly to myself as well.

"I've had the chance when I was sitting in the stands to reflect a lot and I'm so proud of what I have achieved with everyone."

"For the next 11 games, these eight to 10 weeks, I'll try to give it my all and hopefully experience some beautiful moments together," Vertonghen added.

"But then the journey ends and that hasn't been an easy decision, but it's a decision I have to take and I feel it's the right time.

"We'll do everything we can to make it a fantastic ending."

'Deluded'

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock has hit back at some of the criticism aimed at Trent Alexander-Arnold.

talkSPORT brought you the news earlier today that the England international had agreed a deal with Real Madrid.

Alexander-Arnold will leave Anfield this summer for nothing and head to Spain, where he will pen a five-year deal worth £220,000 per week.

Since the news was revealed, the Scouser has been the subject of intense criticism online from Liverpool supporters.

But Warnock has staunchly defended Alexander-Arnold's decision to leave his boyhood club for Los Blancos, where he will join Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe.

Rogers X Rooney

Former England manager and Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle has compared Morgan Rogers to Wayne Rooney.

Rogers made his first senior Three Lions start last night and impressed, after being rewarded for his incredible season with a call-up.

The Aston Villa forward has had a breakout year and Hoddle sees a similarity to English football icon Rooney.

Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "I think he's one when you want to find out about somebody on the pitch, all the hype, you've had a look at him in training, can he reproduce it?

"He went out there and his first bit of skill that he made when he went out towards the corner flag and he did what I call a Rivellino.

"It was back in the day, he used to hit the top of the ball and he spun round the guy and I don't think anyone saw actually what he did, but he got on the back of him on the byline and cut it back.

"I think it went for a corner and I thought, my word, if that's your first thing you're gonna do as a as a player coming on...he was wonderful."

Hoddle continued: "I thought he was excellent, he's just got that little bit of guile about him, that little bit of turn of pace.

"And my word for his age, he's got that body strength that possibly like a Rooney when he was really young.

"He won't get knocked off the ball and he's a confident lad and he believes in his own ability.

"I mean, when you think about that type of player coming through who's only gonna get better, he's got talent coming out of his ears."

Spence's struggles

Tottenham defender Djed Spence has opened up on the negative impact Antonio Conte had on his career.

Spence joined Spurs in 2022 when Conte was in charge, but the Italian refused to play him, labelling him as an 'investment of the club'.

He's now in fine form back at the club this season after multiple loan spells, and he's looked back on that tough time.

"It wasn’t a nice feeling," Spence told the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast. "Especially as I was coming to the club on a high, I was confident, I was buzzing, had just won promotion.

"Then it was like running into a brick wall. It shattered my confidence a bit, obviously I’m young. It’s not nice to hear.

"I knew it was rubbish at the time. It wasn’t a nice feeling. I was even going into the club like ‘What am I doing?’”

He continued: “I feel like whatever I did, that man [Conte] wasn’t happy about anything.

"Even if you did the right things, you were like, ‘Did I do the right thing?’ Cos he’s not really a complimenting guy.

"It gets to a point where you don’t really need validation from a coach. You just go, ‘Oh’.

"I probably had one conversation with him."

Jack Grealish can rediscover his best form at one specific Premier League club if he leaves Manchester City this summer.

That's according to former top-flight striker Troy Deeney who thinks it is 'nailed on' the forward will move.

The 29-year-old has stagnated under boss Pep Guardiola since helping City win a historic Treble in 2023.

Loss of form coupled with injury has seen Grealish slip down the pecking order under the Spaniard leading to his omission from England’s Euro 2024 squad.

Grealish’s woes have continued this season following the emergence of Savinho, while the January signing of Omar Marmoush has seen Grealish start just once in the Premier League since the Egyptian's arrival.

His output has slowly declined over his time at City but this season’s stats have proved alarming with no Premier League goals and just one assist in 16 appearances.

It has led to calls for Grealish to reignite his career away from the Etihad Stadium, something former Watford Striker Troy Deeney believes will happen this summer.

“I think it’s nailed on that he’s going to leave now,” Deeney told talkSPORT.

“I’ve said this before, I think Pep Guardiola's one of the best coaches we’ve ever seen. But I don’t think he’s handled the Jack Grealish/Kevin De Bruyne situation well this year at all. I think he’s left them in the cold.”

Deeney does not foresee a situation where Grealish’s career fizzles out. Rather, he believes the winger can recapture his best form but only if he can secure a switch to north London.

“He will have to leave and I don’t think he wont be short of suitors but I think now it’s a massive situation for him,” Deeney added.

“He may have to lower his expectations in terms of wages and where he’s playing but you could definitely see him going to somewhere like Spurs playing week in, week out and trying to move them up but for Jack it’s about staying fit and playing consistently.”

Spurs have a long-standing interest in Grealish dating back to his Aston Villa days.

Former boss Mauricio Pochettino was keen to add Grealish to his squad back in 2018 after Villa missed out on promotion back to the Premier League.

Tottenham’s £25million offer was rejected by the then Championship club who valued Grealish at £40m.

Reports suggested Grealish was left disappointed by the club’s decision not to sell to Tottenham with the player keen to work under the Argentine.

A second push for Grealish could be deemed as the perfect moment for both player and club with both in need of a fresh direction.

Tottenham are stuck in a domestic slump with Europa League glory the only opportunity to salvage something from what has been a cataclysmic campaign.

The same can be said for Grealish whose career appears to be at a dead end at Manchester City.

The move could also land Grealish an international lifeline after missing out on Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad.

Having missed the Euros, Grealish will not want to taste similar disappointment ahead of the World Cup next year.

Spence joined Spurs in 2022 when Conte was in charge, but the Italian refused to play him, labelling him as an 'investment of the club'.

He's now in fine form back at the club this season after multiple loan spells, and he's looked back on that tough time.

"It wasn’t a nice feeling," Spence told the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast. "Especially as I was coming to the club on a high, I was confident, I was buzzing, had just won promotion.

"Then it was like running into a brick wall. It shattered my confidence a bit, obviously I’m young. It’s not nice to hear.

"I knew it was rubbish at the time. It wasn’t a nice feeling. I was even going into the club like ‘What am I doing?’”

He continued: “I feel like whatever I did, that man [Conte] wasn’t happy about anything.

"Even if you did the right things, you were like, ‘Did I do the right thing?’ Cos he’s not really a complimenting guy.

"It gets to a point where you don’t really need validation from a coach. You just go, ‘Oh’.

"I probably had one conversation with him."

Anger or respect?

There will be plenty of Liverpool fans this morning who will be frustrated that Trent Alexander-Arnold is leaving.

The defender has been at the club for his whole career and he's Liverpool born-and-bred.

However, some will be content with Alexander-Arnold moving on to join one of the greatest clubs in the world, Real Madrid.

Former Crystal Palace owner and talkSPORT host Simon Jordan has been speaking about the fan reaction.

He said: "I'm never one that aligns with players, in fact, I'm the polar opposite. So the fact I'm aligning with Trent Alexander-Arnold isn't me being a contrarian.

"Everyone that criticises a choice, they very rarely have that choice themselves.

"In this instance, Trent Alexander-Arnold has made a choice, has he performed admirably for Liverpool during the time he's been there? Has he ever let this club down?

"Is he entitled to live his life? Or does he have to do precisely what a Liverpool fan thinks he should - until Liverpool want him no more and discard him when they're finished with him?

"He's performed admirably for Liverpool and the only challenge is, should he have gone for a fee?

"Well, okay, how much did Liverpool pay for him?"

After Sam Matterface stated that Reds fans could be hurt by the departure, Jordan continued: "Well, they should grow up.

"He gave them significant performances. I don't think he's hoodwinked Liverpool.

"I don't think he's done the Sol Campbell trick of indicating to the club that he's going to sign and then run across town to join the biggest rivals."

'I think he's quite fortunate'

Simon Jordan believes that Trent Alexander-Arnold is 'fortunate' to have got the move to Real Madrid.

However, he doesn't believe that the defender has lacked loyalty to Liverpool where he has spent his entire career.

Speaking on White and Jordan, he said: “There are some people that believe that you should actually tie yourself to one football club for the rest of your natural-born life if you happen to have come through their development and through their youth.

“In an ideal world, in a sentimental world, where those sorts of people live, that's a very interesting dynamic.

“In the real world, what players' responsibility is to be as loyal as their contract dictates and to do their jobs all the way through their contract.

“Trent Alexander-Arnold has done that. Do I think he's as good as people make him out to be? I don't think so. I think he's quite fortunate to be getting a move to Real Madrid.

“I think he's a very good player, but I don't think he features regularly in the England side.

"I don't think he's an international player that the England set-up felt was the most reliable player to have in their set-up at times. And I think he's got a great move to Real Madrid.

“In terms of loyalty, people lose their minds over this nonsense. They lose their minds over what loyalty looks like.

“Your loyalty in football is to do your job under the auspices of your contract, not engineer outcomes that disadvantage your football club and not go on strike when you don't like something. Other than that, that's the length and breadth of it.”

'He's earned the right'

Troy Deeney believes Trent Alexander-Arnold has earned the right to move on from his boyhood club Liverpool.

Alexander-Arnold has won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup while playing for the Reds.

And now he's going to make the jump to Real Madrid.

Former Watford striker Deeney said on talkSPORT Breakfast: “I feel that he is in a position where he’s done everything at Liverpool. He’s won everything. He’s given them a lot.

“I would have liked for them to get some money for him, personally. For PSR and things like that but it’s been a wonderful exchange.

“It’s somebody who’s come through the youth system. He’s been captain of his boyhood club, he’s won everything with his boyhood club.

“Now, he’s not leaving to go to any other team, he’s going to Real Madrid, the biggest team in world football.

“So, I think it’s perfect for him and fair play to him, he’s earned that right in my opinion.”

Surprising stunner

Reece James has admitted that his muted celebration last night was due to his surprise that his free-kick resulted in a goal.

The Chelsea star found the back of the net in England's 3-0 win over Latvia with a glorious set-piece late in the first half.

Stepping up from all of 30 yards, James curled his effort around the Latvia goal and into the top corner of the Wembley net.

While his teammates swarmed him to celebrate his effort, James kept a straight face - a reaction that was unusual given the quality of his strike and the fact it was his first goal for his country.

But reflecting on his celebration in his first Three Lions appearance since 2022, James insisted there was nothing to worry about.

Asked about his relaxed celebration on ITV, he smiled: "I was surprised it hit the back of the net.

"I thought the keeper could have maybe got there but looking at the replay, it was probably tough."

He added: "I saw the wall and I thought I could bend it round and thankfully I managed to hit the back of the net."

Winning start

England manager Thomas Tuchel has been left pleased with his winning start in his new role.

Tuchel's Three Lions beat Latvia last night to follow up a win over Albania on Friday evening.

Speaking on his time in the camp after his second win in charge, he said: "[I'm] Very happy because of the players mainly.

"The staff were amazing, the organisation of the camp was absolute top but the players made the difference.

"Of course, like always, they reminded me instantly why I was excited about the job - because of these players, top characters, very good group.

"I think we had some excellent days on the pitch, but also off the pitch. Good energy and a very positive atmosphere from the start.

"Everyone wants to give his best. Everyone is proud to play for England, to be in the starting 11, wants to come on. It was a good atmosphere, good start.

"There is still room to improve but overall we have two wins, two clean sheets. We did not allow any big chances in two matches.

"So there's a lot of positives to take away and still room to improve. It's good stuff."

Ball boy honour

A ball boy who played his part in one of Germany's Nations League semi-final goals against Italy has revealed a fitting tribute from the team's captain.

Fifteen-year-old Noel Urbaniak quickly passed a ball to Joshua Kimmich during a corner and he then set up Jamal Musiala for a tap-in while Gigi Donnarumma was remonstrating with the referee.

The goal proved to be crucial in the 3-3 draw in Dortmund as Germany made it past Italy by just a single goal after a 2-1 first-leg draw.

Speaking to Sky the morning after the event, Urbaniak said: "I had the ball and threw it to Kimmich.

"He later thanked me again for the assist and signed the match ball for me. It's mine now.

"I find it simply unbelievable, it's a truly amazing feeling. If you like, I was the twelfth man for the German national team today. I would have loved to have celebrated with the team."

Musiala said at the time: "That's his assist."

Jordan on Bruce vs Gayle

Simon Jordan has given his thoughts on former employee Steve Bruce going after Dwight Gayle.

Gayle criticised the ex-Newcastle manager's lack of tactics on a podcast interview, and Bruce surprisingly hit back.

Speaking after a win with his League One Blackpool side, Bruce made headlines as he sarcastically called Gayle 'legendary' before mentioning a big miss in the FA Cup against Manchester City.

talkSPORT host Jordan, who hired Bruce at Crystal Palace, wasn't a fan of the response, saying: "I think Steve should've risen above it.

"I think that was a laddy environment with two young lads guffawing at what he [Gayle] said.

"Bruce managed for me a long time ago and the one thing he did was get himself on the training pitch.

"Gayle is an average player who played at Palace and I doubt there is anything seeded in accuracy [in what he said] but it will play to the gallery to the people at Newcastle that didn't appreciate Steve Bruce and his brand of football."

Winger woes

England manager Thomas Tuchel has been backed in his critique of Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford.

Tuchel called out the pair in his first game as Three Lions boss, a 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Albania.

Giving his thoughts on the pair ahead of facing Latvia, he said: "I've spoken to both of them in front of the group, they know that I appreciate the effort, especially off the ball.

"Marcus had a lot of runs where we did not see him and did not use him and from time to time we oversaw him.

"Phil is maybe just not finding the momentum at the moment that he can have but both of them are very positive and have every right to be positive."

talkSPORT host and three-time England international Gabby Agbonlahor commented: "You need your wingers to go both ways.

"Now I want to see more from Jarrod Bowen, I want him to start tonight and go down the line.

"Not inspiring performances from Rashford and Bowen but I'm sure the manager will be speaking to them and wanting more, because they have more than what they showed."

Ten Hag return?

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is keen on the Juventus job, talkSPORT understands.

Ten Hag was sacked by United in October and has been out of work ever since.

Juve axed Thiago Motta on Sunday with the team currently fifth in Serie A. Igor Tudor was appointed on an initial contract until the end of the season.

Juve made the big call to go with Motta last summer in an expensive move after his heroics in taking Bologna to the Champions League.

However, the Brazilian-born former Italy midfielder endured a February from hell, getting knocked out of the Champions League by PSV, and then the Coppa Italia by Emploi in the space of a week.

Ten Hag, meanwhile, continues to be linked to top jobs away from England, including at Borussia Dortmund.

The 55-year-old moved to Old Trafford in 2022 after impressing with Ajax and won an FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Yet United's league form never picked up despite heavy investment, and it's only got worse under his replacement - Ruben Amorim.

SW6 stay for Chelsea?

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly has suggested that the club are likely to stay on their current patch and rebuild Stamford Bridge.

The big-spending majority owner of the Blues has had stadium development near the top of his list of priorities since taking over the club in 2022.

Previously linked with a move to Battersea Power Station, Chelsea have remained at the Bridge and there has been little in the way of updates.

However, while speaking to Bloomberg, Bohely discussed the subject.

"Inside of London it's really complex, it's not as if we're building something inside a rural environment," he said.

"We have a lot of constituencies we have to care about and the Chelsea fan base is one.

"But long term I think we're going to build something new and we'll figure it out.

Decision to make

Chelsea will reportedly have to pay Manchester United £5million if they do not permanently sign Jadon Sancho.

Sancho joined the Blues on a season-long loan last summer, with the deal including a £25million obligation if they finish 14th or higher as per reports.

The Athletic have now said Chelsea will have to pay a fee to United should they choose not to make the winger's move permanent.

This is said to have been part of the agreement in the deal, with the relations between the west London side and the player 'strong'.

Sancho got off to a flying start for Chelsea as he assisted three goals in his first three Premier League outings.

However, the 24-year-old has scored just two goals in 28 appearances.

Salah saga

Mohamed Salah wants to stay at Liverpool even though he hasn't yet agreed a new deal.

That's according to Reds legend Michael Owen, who believes that the club should alter their contract policy to keep hold of the Egyptian.

As it stands, Salah will leave Liverpool at the end of the season once his current deal at Anfield expires on June 30.

He is yet to agree to new terms amid a potential final season at the club in which he has scored a stunning 32 goals in 43 matches.

However, ex-Liverpool striker Owen believes the 32-year-old wants to extend his stay, as long as Liverpool make one key change.

"Mo Salah's an interesting one. I think Mo Salah wants to stay, in fact I'm pretty sure he wants to stay," he told talkSPORT.

"I think Liverpool are going to have to bend the rules slightly, they might say, 'Oh right, only two years for players of this age.'

"But he's no normal player, he's as fit as a flea, he's dedicated, he lives in the gym, he's so profeSsional. You can't tell me that he's not going to be at the same level in three, four years.

"I mean, he's just unbelievable, so I would bend the rules, I would give him the contract, the length of contract.

"I'm also not that type of person, a fan that says, 'Just give him what he wants, he's brilliant, we'll win the league with him.' No, because you can't put your club at risk, but I don't think it's got to that stage.

"To replace him, it's going to cost an awful lot more, you're not going to pay a transfer fee for him.

"So I would do whatever it takes to keep him, and I think he wants to stay, but sources tell me that they're still quite a way apart."

Down

Scotland were relegated from Nations League A after a 3-0 home defeat by Greece.

Steve Clarke's side made a decent start but goals from Giannis Konstantelias, Konstantinos Karetsas and Christos Tzolis had the visitors 3-1 up on aggregate with just 15 seconds of the second half played.

The Hampden crowd expressed their dissent on several occasions as Scotland never really looked like getting back into the game.

They now drop down to the second tier of the competition ahead of the next set of group games in the autumn of 2026.

Scotland had Ryan Christie back in the team after suspension with Lewis Ferguson the only player to drop out following the 1-0 first-leg win.

Jermain Defoe revealed he was close to joining the legendary 2000s Juventus side before his return to Tottenham Hotspur.

Defoe spent the majority of his career terrorising Premier League defences up and down the country, scoring 162 top flight goals in a stellar career.

Things could have turned out differently for the 57-cap England international.

Prior to his January 2009 move from Portsmouth back to north London, an agent told Defoe that Juventus were interested in acquiring his signature.

He left Tottenham in January 2008 after nearly four years at the club to join Pompey.

In his 12 months stay he netted 18 goals and assisted five times in 36 matches.

A good stretch of form that attracted the eyes of Juve scouts and head coach Claudio Ranieri, who later went on to win the 2015-16 Premier League at Leicester City.

“I got a phone call before I went back to Tottenham in I think 2008,” Defoe said in an interview with WhoScored. “I remember my agent phoned me and said to me Juventus are interested.

“If Tottenham doesn't get over the line would you want to come to Juventus?”

The star-studded Juventus 2008 side also included Gianluigi Buffon, Giorgio Chiellini, Ballon d’Or winner Pavel Nedved, Claudio Marchisio and Alessandro Del Piero.

It was particularly Del Piero that Defoe marvelled about being his potential strike partner.

“Imagine,” he added. “You talk about forwards you’d love to play with, but actually, he played in Soccer Aid last year, and it was just like—wow. As a young centre-forward, growing up watching players like that, an iconic figure.”

Despite such a star studded team the Old Lady could only manage a second place finish behind Inter Milan in 2008/09.

Prior to that season the club had won successive Serie A titles in 2001/02 and 2002/03.

Defoe remained at Tottenham Hotspur for five more years until his move to the MLS to play for Toronto in February 2014.

He did return to the UK in the following winter transfer window to play for Sunderland, AFC Bournemouth and Rangers.

During the 2000s Italian league developed into arguably the most competitive European league as the years went on, proven by the legendary Inter Milan and AC Milan stars.

Inter was home to players such as Javier Zanetti, Ronaldo and Samuel Eto’o.

They won five consecutive league titles between the 2005/06 and 2009/10 campaigns.

Milan had David Beckham, Ronaldinho, Clarence Seedorf and Paolo Maldini, eventually winning the title in 2010/11.

However it was Juventus who had the last laugh as they claimed nine league titles in a row from the 2011/12 and 2019/20 seasons.

It's almost been eight years since Andrea Pirlo retired from football, but he hasn't lost his world-class free-kick abilities.

Pirlo is regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time thanks to a glittering career for both club and country.

He most notably starred for AC Milan and had a beautiful finish to his career at Juventus. Pirlo made 116 appearances for Italy and won the World Cup with them in 2006.

Pirlo's passing and creativity ensured he stood out on the pitch, with his free-kick technique also a sight to behold on many occasions.

And despite being 45 years old, he's still able find the back of the net from distance as shown in a charity match for the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation on Sunday.

The Italian was selected in a Milan Glorie side facing Tottenham Legends, who won 6-2 in north London.

With around seven minutes left on the clock, Pirlo stood over a free-kick roughly 25 yards out from goal and let fly with a powerful effort.

It flew into the top-right corner in a stunning tribute to his playing days, and fans were in awe of what they saw.

Posting on X, one said: "Class is permanent."

"It was so effortless," another added.

Even the Spurs account appreciated his genius when they said: "It would be rude not to post this from from Pirlo. Legend."

"It would be equally rude not to reply by saying timeless masterclass'," Milan responded.

Robbie Keane scored a hat-trick for Spurs in their charity match win, with Jermain Defoe, Sandro and Michael Brown also netting.

Cristian Zaccardo found a consolation goal for Milan, but Pirlo's strike was arguably the best of the lot.

Pirlo played for Italian sides Brescia and Inter Milan before signing for the latter's rivals in 2001, where he made 401 appearances.

He won two Serie A titles and two Champions Leagues with Milan ahead of a switch to rivals Juventus in 2011.

A further four league titles came his way in Turin before he ended his career in MLS with New York City FC, retiring in 2017.

Pirlo has since got into management, with touchline spells coming at Juventus, Turkish club Fatih Karagumruk S.K. and Sampdoria.

One of the most controversial transfers in Premier League history, Sol Campbell actually could’ve gone anywhere.

The 73-time England international shocked the footballing world in 2001 when he swapped Tottenham for their fiercest rivals Arsenal.

The move came out of nowhere with journalists not even seeing it coming, and Spurs didn’t get a fee as the centre-back’s contract had expired.

Judas shirts were displayed at White Hart Lane in response and Spurs fans even got in trouble for death threats and disgraceful chants.

He couldn’t have picked a worst move in regards to Spurs, but as it turns out, Arsenal weren’t the only ones interested.

While speaking to Stick to Football, he was asked by Gary Neville about Manchester United trying to sign him and replied: “You bloody called me!

“I remember, I was having an afternoon nap, and the phone call came through and Gary asked me if I fancied United, I must have been about 21 then.”

Campbell explained that the move could’ve been reality too, adding: "It did go further, but he blocked it, [Alan] Sugar blocked it.

“He must’ve, it didn’t go further [after that]. I think a lot of players have had difficult times with him.”

The now 50-year-old went on to discuss other interest from a number of European giants.

“Bayern [Munich] came in earlier, but you don’t know – is it a newspaper phoning you up? Back in those days, you didn’t know," he said..

"Liverpool came down, but the manager didn’t come for the meeting. I went to Inter, had a chat with them.

“Barcelona came in at the end, but you just don’t know, it’s all propaganda. Arsenal obviously came in at the end.”

Having won a League Cup at Tottenham, Campbell would go on to claim two Premier League titles and three FA Cups at Arsenal before adding another cup with Portsmouth.

The results showed that the move was a wise one, although Campbell also admitted he didn’t have any affection for Spurs, or any other side for that matter.

When asked which team he supported as a child, he replied: “England!

“My local team was West Ham, but I never really connected with them.”

Tottenham have one last opportunity to lift their first trophy in 16 years this season as a host of ex-stars continue to claim silverware.

Spurs can only win the Europa League this campaign to deliver on Ange Postecoglou's bold pre-season vow that he always wins silverware during his second season at a club.

The Lilywhites' 2-0 defeat to Fulham on Sunday left them languishing in lowly fourteenth with European football as their remaining hope.

Tottenham crashed out of the Carabao Cup to Liverpool in the semi-finals, before Aston Villa ended their FA Cup dreams days later.

To add insult to injury, their EFL Cup conquerors failed to win the trophy at Wembley as another Premier League side ended their own lengthy wait for glory.

Newcastle, inspired by ex-Tottenham star Kieran Trippier, delivered Eddie Howe's side their first major domestic trophy since 1955.

Ironically, the only ex-Spurs star the fanbase would want to win trophies above the rest hasn't in the form of Trippier's England teammate Harry Kane.

Kane was in the Spurs youth ranks when the club last lifted a trophy - the 2008 League Cup - but has never won a major honour himself.

He is already Tottenham and England’s record goalscorer but the debate over his lack of medals blots his otherwise superb record.

After joining Bayern Munich, the striker missed out on a trophy in his debut season after the Bavarians endured their first trophyless season since the 2011–12 campaign.

He then lost his second successive European Championship final in the summer but has cause for optimism in the Bundesliga this time.

A fan's three-word verbal jab sparked a heated confrontation with Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou's side failed to lay a glove on Fulham as the Cottagers ran out 2-0 winners on Sunday.

Rodrigo Muniz broke the deadlock in the 78th minute before former Tottenham defender Ryan Sessegnon added the second ten minutes later.

It was Tottenham's 15th league defeat this season, their equal-most since the 2008/09 campaign.

One fan at Craven Cottage took the opportunity to stick the boot into Postecoglou following the contest.

Instead of letting the fan's swipe wash over him, Postecoglou hit back.

As Postecoglou made his way to the dressing room, the fan said: "What was that? What was that? What was that?"

The Tottenham boss stopped dead in his tracks and stared down the fan, as Djed Spence and Mathys Tel tried to lead him away.

Postecoglou told the fan to 'behave' and made a calming gesture with his hand.

The Australian added: "You're a young man."

Tel also tried to intervene and said: "Hey, respect. Respect."

The fan continued to take aim at Postecoglou, which prompted the Aussie to reply: "Behave yourself."

Postecoglou then moved away as a Tottenham staff member questioned why the fan wanted to poke fun at the evidently frustrated manager.

The former Celtic manager's reaction was not the only clash involving a fan and a Tottenham figure on Sunday.

Tel, who only joined Spurs on loan in January, was captured talking to some of the away fans following the defeat.

Several supporters could be heard shouting, 'It's not good enough'.

But Tel tried to keep the fans onside and responded: "We need to be together."

As for Postecoglou, the incident at Craven Cottage was not the first time he had clashed with a fan.

Following a brutal 1-0 loss to Leicester City in January, which remains the Foxes' only win from their last 14 games, a Tottenham fan told Postecoglou: "You're taking us down, we're going down with you."

Postecoglou appeared to hear the fan's dig as he backtracked up the tunnel and looked to make eye contact with the fan before disappearing down the tunnel again.

The former Socceroos boss also copped an earful from Tottenham supporters following a 1-0 loss away to Bournemouth, where some labelled him 'Postenoclue'.

"They're disappointed and I got some pretty direct feedback, which is always healthy mate," Postecoglou said after the match.

Postecoglou will look to get Tottenham supporters back onside when Premier League resumes following the international break as they travel to Chelsea on April 3.
