Alasdair Gold Blasts Tottenham Summer Signing

Tottenham Hotspur forward Timo Werner has been tipped to improve his form in front of goal by journalist Alasdair Gold, who rated the German a 5/10 for his start to the season under Ange Postecoglou.

The 28-year-old, who joined on a short loan from RB Leipzig in January, did enough to secure a further 12-month stay in north London, but his recent performances have left fans and pundits questioning his goalscoring abilities.

While Werner is not Postecoglou’s preferred starting option on the wing, the German international has had a good run of games in recent weeks, with both Heung-min Son and Richarlison sidelined by injuries.

However, the former Chelsea striker has struggled to impress, missing several key chances in recent matches against both Manchester United and Ferencvaros. Werner is yet to score in 352 minutes of playing time across all competitions this season, but Gold has backed the striker to turn around his poor run of form, suggesting he ‘has the tools to do much more'.

Werner Tipped to Improve Poor Form

Gold, writing for football.london, acknowledged that while Werner has been effective in performing the basics of Postecoglou’s system on the wing, his chance conversion is a major concern:

“The German has been effective in carrying out the basics of Postecoglou wing play in being able to beat his man and pull the ball across.

“However, he's missed a string of big chances to either score or pick out his target in the box and that will continue to hamper his rating until he starts to contribute in the final third. Did get an assist at Brighton but he has the tools to do much more. 5/10.”

Werner, who returned to the Premier League in January, endured a lacklustre two-year spell at Chelsea, despite winning the Champions League and Club World Cup during his time at Stamford Bridge.

The 28-year-old scored just 10 goals in 56 league appearances for the Blues before returning to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2022.

With no set return date for either Son or Richarlison, Spurs will be hoping Werner can transform his poor form into goals in their upcoming fixtures after the international break. Tottenham will resume their season on 19 October, welcoming West Ham at home.

Tottenham ‘Scouting’ Antoine Semenyo

Among three Premier League clubs interested

Tottenham are among three Premier League clubs scouting Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo, with Liverpool and Newcastle also tracking the exciting winger, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

The 24-year-old’s recent Premier League form has reportedly attracted interest from several top-flight clubs, with the trio eyeing a potential move for Semenyo in 2025.

Having already lost Dominic Solanke to Spurs in the summer transfer window, Bournemouth will be keen to keep hold of their emerging forward for the foreseeable future. Semenyo has scored three goals and provided one assist in his first seven Premier League appearances this season.

£65m Star is 'Exactly What Tottenham Needed'

Description

Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke has been named as one of the Premier League's signings of the summer after bursting into life in recent weeks - not only for his killer instincts in the box, but for his work off the ball as well.

Tottenham saw fit to sign Solanke from Bournemouth in the summer for a fee of £55million that could rise to £65million, and after a slow start to life in north London, he's hit form to become a real asset to Ange Postecoglou. The Australian boss is meticulous in his philosophy and playing style, which Solanke has taken to with ease - and having finally shown his ability to score within the box in a true poacher style, a verdict from The Athletic has touted him as one of the transfer window's best signings as Tottenham look to burst into the Champions League spots.

Solanke is 'Exactly What Tottenham Needed'

The Lilywhites have been in need of a player who can lead the line

Tottenham have needed an out-and-out physical striker since Harry Kane departed for Bayern Munich last summer, and whilst the north London club managed just fine last year with a fifth-placed finish and Son Heung-min scoring the bulk of their goals, there was still a desire to bring someone in of his ilk.

The former Chelsea star has found his feet in London once again and, as a result, he's been named as one of the signings of the summer for Postecoglou's side - with The Athletic journalist Seb Stafford-Bloor stating that Solanke is the new signing that has impressed him the most since making the move from the south coast to the capital. He said:

'He is exactly what Tottenham needed and the goals he has scored so far, all three of them from short range, describe the kind of instinct that they were missing in the penalty box.

'But watch the way he presses ball carriers, and notice how difficult he makes it for opposing teams when they work their way out of their own ends.

'Rather than just running about manically and compromising the structure behind him, his work is precise and measured. Spurs have got this decision absolutely right.'

Solanke's Career Could Now Take Off

The striker has been in fine form and an England call-up may further that

Solanke took a while to get going in a Tottenham shirt, having sustained an ankle injury throughout August alongside failing to score against Leicester City and Arsenal early in the campaign - but goals against Brentford, Manchester United and Qarabag alongside assists against the latter and Brighton means that he is well and truly firing in a Tottenham shirt now.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Solanke has only garnered one England cap - coming seven years ago whilst at Liverpool.

Having excelled at Bournemouth, Solanke's Premier League credentials were tested after scoring just six goals for the Cherries in their first Premier League campaign, but a 19-goal haul last season showed his quality in abundance, and it appears that has spread to his spell in north London after a slightly slow start.

An England call-up has now been awarded to the Basingstoke-born starlet having taken Ivan Toney's place in the national team, and if he can get firing for the Three Lions in his expected cameo appearances, it will only serve to expand his development in both white shirts.

Ange Now Needs To Be Ruthless and Sacrifice “Outstanding” £110K P/W Spurs Star

Description

Ange Postecoglou has been dealt his fair share of criticism this season with his Tottenham Hotspur side currently sitting ninth in the Premier League table, recording just as many losses as wins through their first seven outings.

Playing Postecoglou's brand of free-flowing attacking football, spearheaded by the midfield packed with the creative talent of James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Rodrigo Bentancur, being that far down in the table wouldn't necessarily have been expected, especially considering how exciting they've been to watch at times.

But Brighton and Hove Albion's 3-2 comeback win over Spurs showed that the North London outfit needs more balance, and it may require sacrificing a creative spark such as Kulusevski in favour of a more defensive-minded midfielder like Yves Bissouma.

Kulusevski Has Impressed This Season

The Swede has been one of Spurs’ standout attackers

From an attacking standpoint, Kulusevski has enjoyed his start to the 2024-25 campaign, recording a goal and an assist off of 12 shots, and 21 key passes through the first seven games of the season.

Nine of those key passes came in Spurs' dominant 3-0 victory over Manchester United, which saw him hailed as 'outstanding' by former Aston Villa striker, Gabriel Agbonlahor, who praised him for his consistent play of late.

“I thought he was outstanding and just love the way he’s turned into a player who is showing consistency...Last season he was poor, but this season, he’s becoming a lot better. He was positive, looked quicker than normal and was making the right passes.”

The former Premier League striker further went on to state that he felt the Swede's game is more tailor-made for him to operate in the No. 10 role, a stance backed up by the statistics, with the 24-year-old registering a 7.94 rating from Whoscored in that position.

For comparison, Kulusevski - who earns £110k per week at Tottenham - has registered just a 6.7 rating when leading the line.

Defensively, though, is where some issues arise, with Kulusevski having recorded just five total tackles this season, failing to record even one in four outings.

Kulusevski isn't in the team to win the ball back - that much is clear. But Tottenham lack a ball-winning element in midfield who can help them regain possession quickly. The midfield three also failed to provide any defensive support to the full-backs, whose inability to handle Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh was probably the biggest factor in the eventual loss at the Amex Stadium.

Bissouma Brings More Balance To Midfield

Spurs need some additional support defensively

After being internally suspended by Spurs for their season opener against Leicester City for posting a video on social media of him inhaling nitrous oxide, Bissouma marked his return to the lineup in style, scoring a goal in their 4-0 win over Everton the following weekend, showing his prowess on both sides of the ball.

Since then, he has gone on to record 192 minutes across four games in the Premier League, though he has come off the bench in his two most recent appearances, totaling just 38 minutes, as he begins to ramp up his fitness, having suffered an injury when away on international duty with Mali last month.

Nonetheless, Bissouma has recorded at least one tackle in every game in which he has featured, while in his two starts, he has recorded two interceptions and two clearances. The 27-year-old has also been dribbled past just three times, a significantly better number than Kulusevski, who has been dribbled past seven times in his previous four outings.

Bissouma is a safer passer than Kulusevski too, with him averaging 92.1 percent pass accuracy to the Swede's 82.6 percent in the Premier League. A similar trend followed in Spurs' two opening Europa League contests, with the Malian completing 87.3 percent of his passes to Kulusevski's 73.9 percent, despite playing an additional 91 minutes over his teammate.

Football is a results-based game, and it is the manager's job to make the hard decisions that will - hopefully - lead to the best results. In Postecoglou's case, this could mean sacrificing a player such as Kulusevski, despite his impressive start to the 2024-25 campaign, to find a greater sense of balance within the team.

Tottenham clearly know how to hurt teams going forward, but that only means so much when you can't stop goals going in at the other end.

Update Emerges on Amanda Staveley, Daniel Levy, and Tottenham

Amanda Staveley could invest in Tottenham Hotspur after leaving Newcastle United earlier this year, according to reports - and journalist Ben Jacobs has exclusively told GIVEMESPORT that the Saudi PIF advisor could join the side from the capital with a small minority stake to get the ball rolling in her newest footballing venture.

Staveley joined Newcastle three years ago and immediately oversaw a period of huge success on Tyneside, with investment steering the club away from Premier League relegation woes, before embarking on a dream campaign that saw them qualify for the Champions League within just 18 months of the takeover being completed. However, a surprise exit means that the investor is now looking for a new club - and Jacobs has delved deep into how Staveley could invest in Tottenham in a new adventure.

Amanda Staveley 'Ready' to Invest in Tottenham

A report from the Daily Mirror arose just over a week ago, claiming that Staveley was ready to get back into the English top-flight by investing in Tottenham by the end of the year - similar to how she did at Newcastle back in autumn 2021.

Staveley and husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi brokered the £305million takeover of Newcastle around three years ago, but their departure from St. James' Park means that they have now 'entered' advanced talks to buy a decent stake in the north London side.

Tottenham are looking for new money, and Staveley's consortium with Ghodoussi means that they are expected to buy shares from Joe Lewis, who has a declining influence on Tottenham, though she will turn to the Middle East once again for financial backing after doing so with Newcastle.

Jacobs: Staveley Has Two Potential Takeover Avenues

Tottenham could see new investment by January

Speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs stated that Staveley would have two avenues to go down in terms of investing in the club - admitting that joining the club in a similar way to how Liverpool's owners FSG currently operate may be the best strategy at present. Jacobs said:

"Staveley is quite interesting, because if we again remember that first and foremost she's a broker, for any stake she takes in a club she would always have the capacity to find other investors or scale up an investment because of her network. So this is the key thing that we have to understand with Tottenham at the moment.

"Is Daniel Levy going to entertain somebody that might buy small now without much practical or day-to-day say, but wants bigger responsibility, or stake, or other partners to come in the future?

"Or is this more like an FSG investment - surrounding a small minority stake to a more silent, strategic investor to allow the club to be on a firm financial footing - but to be run in the same way as it is now?

"And at the moment, I'm told it's the latter."

Tottenham Investment Could Massively Bolster Them

Daniel Levy isn't always the most generous spender

Tottenham have always naturally been the most prudent-spending side in the 'Big Six' in the Premier League, and especially with Newcastle and Aston Villa having spent big in recent years, the north London side do need investment if they are to keep up with the bigger sides in the Premier League.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Newcastle qualified for the Champions League for the first time in 20 years under Staveley's control.

Daniel Levy is known for eking out a beneficial deal for himself, and so Staveley will have to pay up if she is to acquire stakes in Tottenham - but investment in the same way that she did at Newcastle will only benefit the club in the future.

Tottenham Sent Scouts to Watch 20-Year-Old Star in Man Utd v Porto

Tottenham reportedly sent scouts to attend the Europa League clash between FC Porto and Manchester United, with a keen eye on the performance of Samu Omorodion, reveals Football Insider.

An eventful night at the Estadio Dragao saw an end-to-end match in which Manchester United took an early two-goal lead, before completely taking their foot off the gas, allowing their opponents to turn the game around 3-2 with goals from Omorodion and Pepe. However, a last-gasp equalizer from Harry Maguire ultimately saved Erik ten Hag from further defamation, and meant the Red Devils travelled back to England having secured three points in the competition's league phase.

Undeniably, the standout performer in the fixture, however, was Omorodion, whose impressive brace in tandem with relentless all-round play simply proved too much to handle for the Manchester United defence. The Atletico Madrid loanee has firmly placed himself on the radar of many top European clubs with his performances, now including Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham as well.

Omorodion Shines in Front of Tottenham Scouts

The Spaniard also still has admirers at Chelsea as well

As per Football Insider, Tottenham scouts were reportedly in attendance to watch Omorodion as Porto hosted Manchester United for match-day two of the Europa League, and they will undoubtedly have been impressed with what they saw. A dominant performance from the Spaniard almost sealed the three points for the Cidade Invicta, and it was evident from early on in the fixture, that Omorodion's powerful physicality would be a nuisance for his opposition defenders.

Omorodion, described as elite by analyst Ben Mattinson, was practically within reaching distance of a move to the Premier League, with Chelsea reportedly close to booking a medical as well. However, the transfer ultimately broke down due to contract disagreements and the 20-year-old instead chose to spend the season on loan in Portugal with Porto. Despite this outcome, the Blues remain interested in the striker's signature, and could potentially return to the negotiation table in the future, but may face new interest from Tottenham, among others.

Spurs coughed up £65 million for Bournemouth target man, Dominic Solanke, who has settled in well at the north London club so far. With three goals and two assists in eight outings across all competitions, the Englishman has successfully led the line for a new-look Tottenham attack, but Postecoglou seemingly wouldn't mind adding some firepower to his options. Although a difficult deal to strike, Omorodion would certainly be an excellent coup for the club.

Tottenham Also Interested in Highly-Touted Angel Gomes

The Lille star recently earned a second call-up to the senior England international squad

Meanwhile, another talent Tottenham are interested in acquiring is Lille midfielder, Angel Gomes, who has been excelling in the French top-flight lately. The 24-year-old made heads turn after he earned a maiden call-up to England squad, and he could be set for a move overseas, with several Premier League clubs alongside Spurs reportedly in the race, including Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle.

The Red Devils youth academy graduate was previously dubbed as "excellent" by England's interim manager, Lee Carsley, and also concluded the 2023/24 Ligue 1 season with the most assists among all players in the division. His talent is undeniable and with under a year remaining on his current contractual terms, a transfer away from the Pierre Mauroy Stadium is looking increasingly inevitable.

Former Arsenal Striker Alan Smith Says Tottenham 'Lost Their Heads' v Brighton

Description

Tottenham Hotspur's players have been questioned by former Arsenal legend Alan Smith for their mentality and ability to fold easily after squandering a healthy 2-0 lead against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon to lose 3-2 on the south coast.

Brennan Johnson and James Maddison had fired Tottenham ahead in what looked to be a continuation of their strong form in recent weeks, in what was a dominating first-half for Ange Postecoglou's men - but an 18-minute collapse against the Seagulls saw Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck all get their names on the scoresheet to turn the game around, in which Tottenham couldn't respond to record their third loss in the Premier League this season. And Smith has taken aim at their stars for chucking the game away, branding them as 'losing their heads and resilience' in a result that sees them sit ninth in the top-flight standings.

Smith: Tottenham 'Lost Their Heads' Against Brighton

The London outfit threw the game away under seemingly no pressure

Speaking live on Sky Sports, Smith slated Rodrigo Bentancur for not doing enough to prevent a cross, before stating that Tottenham had 'lost their heads' in their battle to claw the game back and secure all three points after a solid start on the south coast. The former Arsenal star said, via BBC Sport:

"How Rutter wiggled away from three players on the right-hand side of the box is beyond me. He had no right to keep going. Bentancur does nowhere near enough, and Danny Welbeck cannot believe the space. He cannot believe he got a free header... Unbelievable!

"Who would have seen this at half time? Tottenham have lost their heads, they've certainly lost their resilience."

Tottenham Continue to Throw Away Points

That is already five dropped from winning positions this season

It's not the first time Tottenham have lacked bottle in a big game under Postecoglou. Drawing 1-1 vs Newcastle United earlier in the season, Tottenham were dominating but conceded a cheap goal to lose 2-1 on Tyneside, whilst a similar scenario happened vs Leicester City - although they were able to hold onto a draw against the Foxes.

Last season saw similar results; they were leading Chelsea 1-0 at home before two red cards at home saw the Blues eventually prevail with a 4-1 win in north London, and just five days later they blew a 1-0 lead in stoppage time against Wolverhampton Wanderers to lose 2-1.

A similar collapse vs West Ham United just three weeks later proved that there needs to be an added backbone to their squad - though that will likely come with experience. Defensively, their first-choice side includes a backline of 25-year-old right-back Pedro Porro, two centre-backs who are aged just 26 and 23 in Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, and a left-back who is only 21 years old in Destiny Udogie.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Tottenham have already thrown away five points from winning positions in the Premier League - though that tally was 20 last season.

As a result, the experience is naturally not going to be there in a young back line. If they can iron out those mistakes going forward, Tottenham could have the formula for a winning side in the future - but for now, they need to work on seeing games out with only Fraser Forster, Ben Davies and Son Heung-min over the age of 30 and offering any sort of nous.

Ange Postecoglou Names 'Blame' for Tottenham Defeat v Brighton

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou admits his team’s second-half performance against Brighton falls at his feet.

The Lilywhites initially took the lead through Brennan Johnson in the first half, and James Maddison extended their lead to two before the break. However, it took Yankuba Minteh just minutes in the second half to pull a goal back.

Georginio Rutter levelled the scoreline just before the hour mark, and Danny Welbeck put the hosts ahead minutes later. It was a remarkable turnaround from the hosts after such a disjointed start to the game.

Postecoglou Takes the Blame for Brighton Defeat

Spurs conceded three in the second half

After such a positive showing against Manchester United last time out in the league, Spurs failed to back things up with a similar performance against Brighton on Sunday. Despite leading for most of the game, a second half capitulation inflicted a third defeat of the season on Postecoglou’s side.

The manager conceded post-match that the responsibility falls at his feet. In an interview with BBC Match of the Day, the Australian hinted complacency may have played a part in the defeat.

Postecoglou said:

"Maybe we just thought we’d roll out there and play well again and that’s not how it works and we paid for it. We’ve conceded before but it is how you react and our reaction wasn’t what it should be. It’s a bad day for us and when it’s a bad day the responsibility falls at my feet."

Spurs Face Competition for Target

They have been linked with Eberechi Eze

In other news, Spurs will face fierce competition if they’re to pursue a move for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, according to reports. Football Insider claims Premier League rivals Liverpool are the latest club to join the race for the 26-year-old, but Newcastle United and Tottenham are also keen on signing the attacker.

The article claims a £68million release clause will become active in the summer of 2025, but by next summer, he will have just two years remaining on his current deal. Eze joined Palace from Queens Park Rangers back in 2020, and he last signed a contract extension in November last year. His current deal expires in the summer of 2027.

It is for that reason Palace could reportedly be willing to accept offers in the region of £50-60million next year if they are unable to agree fresh terms with the player. They will, however, be unwilling to entertain any negotiations in the January transfer window.

Palace have already sold one big star in Michael Olise. The 22-year-old was linked with a number of clubs over the summer, but he opted to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in a £50million deal. Defender Marc Guehi has also attracted interest from a number of clubs following his standout performers for England at Euro 2024.

Tottenham Star Slammed for 'Poor' Performance Against Brighton

Tottenham Hotspur forward Timo Werner has been slammed for his poor end product following his team’s 3-2 defeat to Brighton on Sunday evening.

It was the dream start for Ange Postecoglou’s side at the Amex as Brennan Johnson fired them in front shortly after the 20-minute mark. James Maddison then made it two 10 minutes later.

The second half was a different story entirely as the hosts pulled one back minutes after the break through Yankuba Minteh. Goals from Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck then made it 3-2 with 20 minutes left to play.

Werner Slammed by Pundit

The forward started against Brighton

One player that had a difficult game was forward Werner. The 28-year-old made his second Premier League start of the season against Brighton, but was substituted for Pape Matar Sarr with a little over 10 minutes left to play.

Former Chelsea midfielder, now pundit, Craig Burley didn’t hold back in his criticism of the Germany international. In a post shared on social media platform X, Burley slammed the forward’s finishing and branded it as ‘poor’.

"Timo Werner’s end product really is poor."

Werner did register an assist for Maddison’s goal in the first half, but his poor final ball cost Spurs chances earlier in the game. A similar criticism was levelled at him following their victory over Manchester United, as he squandered two one v ones against Andre Onana.

The forward joined Spurs from RB Leipzig on loan in January, and that was extended to run until the end of the 2024/25 season. As part of the agreement with the Bundesliga club, Tottenham have the option to buy Werner for £8.5million next summer.

Werner had a previous spell in the Premier League with London rivals Chelsea between 2020 and 2022. He scored 23 goals in 89 appearances, and was sold back to Leipzig two summers ago for less than half of what Chelsea initially paid for him.

Johnson Equals Kane Record

He scored in the first half against Brighton

Johnson had a slightly more positive afternoon, despite the defeat against Brighton. He fired Spurs in front after 20 minutes following a through ball from Dominic Solanke. With his first touch, Johnson tucked his effort into the bottom corner to give the visitors an early advantage.

The 23-year-old has now scored six goals in his last six appearances for Spurs across all competitions. As reported by the Daily Mail, this matches club legend Harry Kane, who was the last player to find the net in successive games back in 2019, and he did so across three separate competitions.

Prior to Sunday’s meeting with Brighton, Johnson had scored in their last two league games against Manchester United and Brentford, their two Europa League games against Qarabag and Ferencvaros, as well as their Carabao Cup victory over Coventry City.

Johnson joined Spurs from Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest back in September 2023, having progressed through his former club’s academy ranks. He signed a long-term deal with Spurs, and his current contract is set to expire in 2028, with the option of a further year.

Pundit Reveals Behind the Scenes Update on Tottenham Move for England Star

Description

Tottenham are admirers of Lille star Angel Gomes and the club are seriously considering making a move to sign him in 2025, former England and Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson has told Football Insider.

The 24-year-old is attracting plenty of suitors across Europe with his performances, and with under a year remaining on his contract, a switch away from the French outfit is growing increasingly likely. The former Manchester United academy graduate made his full England debut last month, earning plaudits for his performances after being given his maiden call-up by Lee Carsley.

Tottenham Eyeing Move for Angel Gomes

The Englishman is reportedly "an option" for midfield

Speaking to Football Insider, former Spurs goalkeeper, Paul Robinson insisted that Angel Gomes would be a fantastic coup for Tottenham, and his sources within the club were also on a similar page.

"He’s certainly a player that would make the team better without a doubt. I think he’s proven himself on the international scale, and Lee Carsley obviously has a lot of faith in him because he’s a good player. Given his age, I think he can only get better.

“I think you’d have to look at him a bit higher up the pitch.

"An attack-minded midfielder is something Tottenham will be looking at alongside James Maddison, and, from what I hear from people at the club, Gomes could definitely be an option."

Gomes initially burst through the ranks in Manchester United's youth academy, even making 10 appearances for the side, before ultimately switching to Lille on a free transfer. After an initial loan with Portuguese outlet, Boavista, the Englishman then made his breakthrough in the Lille first team, making 30 appearances across all competitions. Last season was his best in a Les Dogues shirt however, as Gomes racked up eight assists, ranking as the joint-highest in the entire league.

For his country, Gomes has been ever-present in the England youth set-up, winning the 2017 Under-17 World Cup and the 2023 Under-21 Euros. Now on the cusp of breaking into the senior team, he has made two appearances, including one start, in the previous international break earlier this season, and could be set for more in October.

Gomes' quality isn't in question, but with under a year remaining on his current contract in Ligue 1, a plethora of clubs are lining up in the hopes of acquiring his signature, including Tottenham. In particular, Manchester United are weighing up a possible return for the midfielder and Newcastle are also reportedly in the race.

Tottenham Face Transfer Interest from Real Madrid for Pedro Porro

The Spaniard has impressed so far this season

Elsewhere in the wide areas, Tottenham could see themselves in negotiations with Real Madrid, with Pedro Porro reportedly emerging as a transfer target for the Spanish behemoths, according to CaughtOffside. It is understood that Liverpool ace, Trent Alexander-Arnold, remains a primary choice for the right-back position amid his contract uncertainty, however should this approach fall through, Madrid may turn to the Spurs right-back instead.

Porro has impressed this season, fitting in to more of an inverted role within Ange Postecoglou's system. After a relatively shaky start to his time in north London, supporters will be pleased to see him settle in well at the club, and a player of his caliber will undoubtedly be difficult to replace.

A slightly alleviating factor, however, is that Spurs could demand as much as £58 million for the Spaniard - a reasonable profit from the initial £44 million they paid in 2023, which should help fund a search for a successor.

Tottenham Star to Return v Brighton as Postecoglou Drops Son Update

Description

Tottenham Hotspur travel to Brighton on Sunday for their next Premier League game, but the Lilywhites will have to do so without their captain, Heung-Min Son, after Ange Postecoglou confirmed the South Korean will not be fit in time.

After a disappointing start to the campaign, which saw Spurs drop points against Leicester City, Newcastle United, and fierce rivals Arsenal, Postecoglou's men have now gone on a five-game unbeaten run. Progress in the EFL Cup, back-to-back wins in the league, and two wins from two in the Europa League have certainly lifted the mood around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the club will be looking to keep that momentum going when they visit the Amex Stadium this weekend.

However, this will now be the third game where the North London side cannot call on their skipper to lead the line, as Son's hamstring issue will keep him out of action until after the international break.

Son Sidelined for Spurs

Tottenham captain will not be fit for next game

Son had featured in all of Tottenham's games this season, until he had to pull up in the 70th minute of the Europa League clash with Qarabag on September 26. Though it was initially thought the 32-year-old was feeling fatigued, it would now appear his condition is more serious.

In his latest press conference (via Football.London), Postecoglou was asked about his injury list, and confirmed that no new issues had arisen after the trip to Hungary on Thursday, but that Son would be unavailable for the weekend.

Postecoglou said:

"First things first, last night, all good. Obviously, fairly tired but physically no issues from last night’s game. Then, out of the guys who sort of stayed back, Destiny [Udogie] we think will be okay. We have training today and tomorrow so he has to get through that.

"Sonny unlikely. He’s pushing hard, but I just don’t think the turnaround will be quick enough for him to be available at this stage. And then that’s it, the others are kind of long-term."

Postecoglou Has a Decision to Make

Postecoglou must choose between experience and youth

Postecoglou will now have a big decision to make regarding who starts the game against Brighton. Timo Werner has started on the left-wing for the last two games, but has come in for criticism for his inability to take chances in front of goal.

Instead, many Spurs fans will be crying out for Postecoglou to hand a first Premier League start to teenage sensation Mikey Moore. The 17-year-old academy product started the Europa League tie against Ferencvaros on Thursday night and proved he is more than ready for first-team football. Indeed, the young winger created chances, played with bravery and adventurousness, and handled the physicality of the game, too.

Whether Postecoglou will trust Moore from the start in the league against considerably more dangerous opposition like Brighton remains to be seen, and the likelihood is that the Spurs boss will lean on the more experienced Werner for one more game.
