Tottenham are interested in adding new England star Angel Gomes to their squad in 2025, and he could even be available on a free transfer according to HITC.

The Lilywhite made big moves in the transfer window to strengthen their midfield as they replaced the outgoing duo of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp with young talents Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall for Ange Postecoglou's squad.

But they also held an interest in former Chelsea star Conor Gallagher all summer, but couldn't agree a deal with the Blues before his eventual move to Atletico Madrid, which shows they weren't entirely satisfied with their options in the middle of the park ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Tottenham Eye Angel Gomes Move

Carrington graduate out of contract in 2025

That has seen them begin to look at the market for potential opportunities when the window re-opens in January 2025, and one name on their shortlist that has emerged is Lille star Angel Gomes.

The central midfielder, who came through the academy at Manchester United and is their youngest player since Duncan Edwards, has shone in France in recent seasons and recently earned his maiden call-up to the senior England national team under Lee Carsley.

And Spurs are interested in taking him back to the Premier League, with his contract situation meaning that there is an opportunity to explore. According to HITC the 24-year-old currently doesn't plan on renewing his contract with Lille, meaning he will be available to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January 1st for a summer move.

Alternatively, the Ligue 1 side could look to cash in on him in the winter window to ensure they get some cash and Tottenham could look to swoop, although they are anticipating plenty of competition for his signature after his recent England call-up.

Described as a 'deadly playmaker', Gomes can play as a number ten, an eight or deeper as a six, with his creativity and passing among his best attributes - with former manager Paulo Fonseca describing him as "the most intelligent player in the team".

GIVEMESPORT key statistic: Angel Gomes was captain of the England Under-17 team that won the World Cup, including the likes of Phil Foden and Marc Guehi.

Micky Van De Ven Withdraws From Netherlands Squad

Defender missed defeat to Newcastle

In a blow to Postecoglou's side, defender Micky Van de Ven has been forced to withdraw from the Netherlands squad for the upcoming international games due to injury.

The centre-back missed the 2-1 defeat to Newcastle after suffering an injury against Everton, and will now miss the international clashes with Bosnia and Germany as he looks to recover.

Spurs will take on fierce rivals Arsenal in the north London derby when the Premier League returns on Sunday 15th September, and the 23-year-old niw faces a race against time to be available.

After Newcastle, £70kp/w Spurs Ace Has Given Ange Huge Headache Ahead of Arsenal

Key Takeaways

Despite losing 2-1, Brennan Johnson outperformed well as a sub against Newcastle.

Johnson could be a better fit for the upcoming high-stakes match against Arsenal.

Wilson Odobert, while promising, may need more time to develop at 19 years old – as proven with his display vs Newcastle.

It has been a mixed start to the new Premier League season for Tottenham Hotspur. They began with a draw at Leicester before thumping Everton at home but dropped points in defeat on the weekend, losing 2-1 away at Newcastle United.

Things for Ange Postecoglou's men aren't likely to get much easier as they will host bitter rivals Arsenal directly after the international break, while also travelling to Manchester United before September ends. With that in mind, the Australian will want to use this break to try and work out his strongest XI for the upcoming fixtures.

After the defeat to Newcastle, he may well be weighing up a change on the wings. Indeed, new signing Wilson Odobert was bright enough the week before against Everton, but struggled against sterner opposition. With that in mind, Brennan Johnson – who looked sharp when coming off the bench at St James' Park – might be the right man to come in.

Brennan Johnson Outshines Wilson Odobert

Will be desperate to start derby vs Arsenal

It was a difficult day for Spurs up against the Magpies as they fell behind in the first half to a fine effort from Harvey Barnes. Postecoglou's side managed to wrestle back control, however, and levelled the scores, albeit somewhat fortunately, as Dan Burn turned the ball into his own net.

They could not hold out for even a point, though, as Alexander Isak struck a 78th-minute dagger, allowing Eddie Howe and co to claim all three points with a 1-1 victory. While certainly not entirely at fault for the loss, a quick look at the stats shows that Odobert was perhaps lucky to stay on for as long as he did.

He was the lowest-rated Spurs player on SofaScore (6.7). In comparison, Johnson was a much brighter spark, with a 7.6 rating (only better by Newcastle's Nick Pope) during his 45-minute cameo in the second half.

Despite not being on the pitch for as long, the former Nottingham Forest man seemed to make a far more positive impact. For instance, they generated a similar level of xG and both missed one big chance (although Johnson set up Odobert's). The substitute also managed to work the goalkeeper with a shot on target and didn't lose the ball as much as Odobert.

Against Arsenal, much like at Newcastle, there will be periods where Spurs will be on the back foot and Johnson also showed he can contribute in that area of the game as well. Indeed, he won more duels than Odobert, managed as many tackles, made more clearances, and wasn't dribbled past (unlike his teammate who was beaten twice on that front).

Teenage Odobert Needs Time to Grow

Still looks a bit raw

All this is not to say Odobert's form is a major cause for concern. Arriving from Burnley for a fee in the region of £25m in the summer, he looks to have a bright future and looked bright against Everton on debut.

But at 19 years of age, he is still raw and that has been apparent at times. Now in his second season at Spurs, 23-year-old Johnson – who makes £70k-p/w – may be the safer bet against Arsenal. His bright display on the weekend suggests he's really pushing to get into the starting XI and Postecoglou may want to take the less proven player out of the firing line ahead of such a high-stakes match.

Beyond the stats, Johnson's efforts vs Newcastle have also been praised in the media. He was handed a team-high 7/10 in the football.london player ratings, with journalist Alasdair Gold noting:

"Really made an impact after coming on at the break. First his shot forced the own goal and then he looked dangerous every time he got down the right. Put so many good balls into the six-yard box but Spurs had no striker in there to convert them. Did create a good chance himself with some fast feet in the Newcastle box but lifted his shot over the bar."

In comparison, Odobert was handed a 5/10, with Gold writing: "Fired a first half effort over the crossbar and switched to the left in the second period where he looked more comfortable. Plenty of threat but needs to turn that into a final pass. Blazed a big chance over the crossbar from close range from Johnson's deflected cross."

With all that in mind, Postecoglou may have a bit of a headache over the international break as he tries to work out his best XI to take on Arsenal in the north London derby. If it is a toss-up between the two men to start against the Gunners, he may look at Johnson's bright cameo against Newcastle as a good enough reason to rotate Odobert out of the team.

11 Best Tottenham Passers of All Time [Ranked]

Key Takeaways

Spurs have enjoyed some of the game's greatest passers in history.

The likes of Harry Kane and Luka Modric have been superb for the north London club.

Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle ranks highly for his years of service.

Tottenham Hotspur have lit up English football with some of the most exciting teams to have played on British shores. The Lilywhites have won the league title twice and are eight-time FA Cup winners. A key aspect behind their success has been the usual presence of a playmaking magician whose passing abilities mesmerize fans.

The club’s motto is ‘to dare is to do’, and many of its past and present players have embodied this motto by looking to find their man with a risky through ball. From Glenn Hoddle’s picture-perfect precision to Harry Kane’s outstanding link-up play, Spurs truly have passed their way to success. With that in mind, here are the 11 greatest passers to play for the north London outfit.

Tottenham career span: 2005-2007

Tottenham fans were pleasantly surprised when the club sealed a deal for Edgar Davids after the iconic Dutchman left Inter Milan in 2005. Known as 'The Pitbull,' he was one of Europe’s most highly-regarded midfield warriors, and he boasted impressive passing abilities. He wasn't with the club long, but he still made an impact with his steel in midfield.

Davids was renowned for his aggression and tenaciousness but was also tidy in possession. He was instrumental in Martin Jol’s side's rise from mid-table mediocrity to UEFA Cup regulars. Donning iconic dreadlocks and snazzy glasses, the 74-cap Netherlands international was a class act.

Tottenham career span: 1992-2004

Darren Anderton was a versatile winger who became a fan favourite at White Hart Lane with his quick feet and vision on the ball. He was part of the impressive Tottenham side that won the League Cup in 1999 under George Graham.

The 30-cap England international used his pace and ball-playing capabilities to give defenders a torrid time. He linked up with Les Ferdinand and David Ginola with aplomb, often finding his man with clever one-two passes. If it weren’t for injuries, he’d be spoken more highly of in English football as he was a real stylish attacker who loved putting his striker through on goal.

Tottenham career span: 1954-1964

Danny Blanchflower is one of Tottenham’s all-time greats and the brains of their successful 1960s team. His creativity and positional awareness allowed him to flourish in a playmaking role from deep. His command of the ball and range of passing allowed him to control proceedings in the middle of the park.

The Northern Ireland legend captained Spurs to the league title, FA Cup, and European Cup Winners’ Cup under the iconic Bill Nicholson. His passing abilities were vital in that success, pulling the strings for the north Londoners. He once said that football should be played with a willingness to ‘do things in style, with a flourish’, and he did so throughout his career.

Tottenham career span: 2012-2019

Mousa Dembele is arguably one of the most underrated players in Premier League history. The now-retired Belgian box-to-box midfielder excelled during a seven-year stay in north London, allowing Tottenham to dominate possession with his exquisite passing abilities.

Former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino once dubbed Dembele a ‘genius’ after a man-of-the-match showing in a 1-1 draw against Arsenal in 2016. That is the perfect way to describe 'The Doctor,' who conducted the midfield season after season and perhaps deserves more recognition.

Tottenham career span: 1998-1992

Paul Gascoigne is one of the best natural talents England and Tottenham fans have witnessed in action. He had everything in his locker, including the ability to find his man with pinpoint accuracy. Gazza was at the thick of things when the Lilywhites won the FA Cup in 1991, unstoppable at times.

The legendary former attacking midfielder was a marvel. His excellent passing abilities saw him form a formidable partnership with Gary Lineker. His ability to use both feet made him more dangerous when picking out a pass. He was Hollywood on and off the pitch during his career, and Spurs got the best out of him before he left for Lazio for £5.5million in 1992.

Tottenham career span: 2010-2012

Rafael van der Vaart didn’t spend too long at Tottenham, but he thrilled fans with his wide range of passing in north London. The iconic former Dutch playmaker arrived at White Hart Lane from Real Madrid for £8million in 2010, just two hours before the transfer window closed.

It was with good reason that Spurs pulled off the famous transfer, as Van der Vaart’s quick passing style helped the team flourish. The former 109-cap Netherlands international was part of a midfield consisting of Luka Modric; playing in front of those two is a striker’s dream. He was a European superstar who fans quickly took to because of his excellent passing acumen.

Tottenham career span: 2013-2020

Christian Eriksen became a fan favourite at Tottenham during his seven years with the club, primarily thanks to his creativity. The Danish midfield maestro was renowned for spreading the play with long balls over the top. He was to Spurs what Paul Scholes was to Manchester United and Andrea Pirlo was to AC Milan.

Eriksen's exquisite right foot also led to many goals from set-piece situations. The Lilywhites’ all-time top scorer, Harry Kane, benefited from this, with the Dane assisting 27 goals of his 280 club goals. He’s arguably the only success out of the seven Gareth Bale sale-aided signings that arrived in 2008.

Tottenham career span: 2009-2023

Harry Kane is Tottenham’s and England’s greatest goalscorer, but his game is more than just goals. The prolific frontman is one of the best all-round strikers in European football history, which stems from his exquisite link-up play. It saw him form perhaps the best partnership in the club's history with Son Heung-min.

Kane adapted his game as his career progressed, dropping back into midfield areas and picking teammates out with long balls. This helped Spurs venture forward, and he often ended up on the end of a cross. His ball-playing abilities are outstanding, and he attributes his positional adaption to former manager Jose Mourinho.

Tottenham career span: 1978-1988

Ossie Ardiles was a unique talent whose flawless passing could unlock defences in the blink of an eye. The Argentina icon was slick in possession and linked up with Riccardo Villa and Glenn Hoddle to help Tottenham wreak havoc. He kept things ticking with neat passes while weaving his way through the opposition with his Samba style of play.

'Piton' was loved for his dribbling abilities, but passing was also a significant part of his game. He had Spurs fans dreaming throughout his time at the club and was vital in their FA Cup triumph in 1981 against Manchester City. He once reflected on that period by explaining it was spent prioritizing treasuring the ball.

Tottenham career span: 2008-2012

Luka Modric is one of the greatest creative magicians in European football history who Tottenham fans wish had spent longer at the club. The Croatian hero left for Real Madrid in 2012 for £30 million, but it’s fair to say he left his mark at White Hart Lane.

Modric wowed fans with his creativity and beautiful passing abilities, sending long balls over the top and playing strikers through on goal with eye-of-the-needle through balls. The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner never won a trophy with Spurs, but he glistened in Harry Redknapp’s side. There was nothing quite like watching the five-time UEFA Champions League winner spread the play at the Lane.

Tottenham career span: 1975-1987

Glenn Hoddle is arguably the greatest player in Tottenham’s history, and his profile would have allowed him to flourish in any European league. That’s because of his precision passing that would leave the opposition dumbfounded, particularly his dangerous long balls with backspin.

Hod was at the forefront of Spurs’ upturn in form under Keith Burkinshaw when they were promoted to the English top flight in 1978. He won the PFA Young Player of the Year award in 1980 and orchestrated the club’s 1984 UEFA Cup triumph, but unfortunately, he missed the final through injury. The former 53-cap England international's main attribute was his unrivalled passing range, and that's why he tops the list.

Van De Ven Ruled Out of Tottenham Clash With Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven is set to miss their game against Newcastle United on Sunday, according to insider Paul O Keefe.

Van de Ven has been a crucial player for Ange Postecoglou since arriving last summer, but the rapid defender has struggled with injuries during his time at the club. As Spurs prepare to face Newcastle on Sunday, the Dutch centre-back is set to be ruled out once again.

Van de Ven Ruled Out of Newcastle Clash

Radu Dragusin set to start

According to Tottenham insider O Keefe, Van de Ven 'didn't make it' for their clash against Newcastle this weekend...

"Seems he didn't make it. Dragu in."

O Keefe later added that he believes the defender has suffered a quad injury, which is a worrying update for Spurs supporters considering his importance to the side. Van de Ven, described as 'world-class', hopefully won't be out for too long, but it seems that he hasn't travelled to Newcastle to face the Magpies.

Dragusin, who has struggled to make a significant impact since arriving in the January transfer window last season, is set to step in. Although a more than competent defender, Van de Ven offers a left-footed option in defence which helps Postecoglou implement a possession-based system.

The Romanian centre-back wasn't trusted by Postecoglou for large parts of the 2023/2024 campaign, but after a full pre-season, he could be ready to make an impact this term. Dragusin is yet to play a single minute for Spurs in the Premier League so far, so the centre-back will need to step up as he's thrust into the deep end.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: Radu Dragusin has only won one tackle since his arrival in the Premier League, with that occasion coming during Tottenham Hotspur's 2-1 win over Luton Town in March.

Tottenham Reach Agreement for Jhonny Cardoso

It's an unusual deal for Spurs

During the summer window, Giovani Lo Celso completed a move to Real Betis, and Spurs included an unusual agreement within the sale. As per Fabrizio Romano, Spurs have completed an agreement with Real Betis for a priority option to buy Jhonny Cardoso in the future.

If Tottenham decide not to pursue a move for Cardoso, then they now have a sell-on clause despite never actually owning the player. It's a rare kind of deal in football but it could be hugely beneficial for Spurs.

Fabrizio Romano Confirms Important Detail in Spurs Exit Deal for Lo Celso

Tottenham Hotspur managed to offload outcast Giovani Lo Celso before the summer transfer window deadline yesterday and, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Ange Postecoglou’s side have included a sell-on clause in his new contract.

The Greek-Australian chief enjoyed a fruitful summer of business, particularly from an incomings standpoint, welcoming the likes of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall to the fold, while they also eclipsed their club-record addition with Dominic Solanke.

Offloading those deemed surplus to requirements was viewed as equally important in their quest to end their drawn-out trophy drought and Rosario-born Lo Celso, 28, is among those who left north London.

Tottenham Include Sell-On Clause in Lo Celso Deal

Aston Villa attempted to hijack Spanish side’s move

Amid concerns over game time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Argentine joined former Real Betis permanently, signing a four-year deal, after being on the periphery of Postecoglou’s plans for the current campaign.

Aston Villa were earmarked as potential suitors over the summer and, according to Romano, attempted to hijack Real Betis’ move for the 57-cap, three-goal Argentina international, who played just 77 times in the Premier League.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statistic: In his 108-game stint for Tottenham, Lo Celso notched 10 goals and eight assists.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the ever-reliable Romano suggested that Tottenham have been proactive in planning ahead, suggesting that should the midfielder’s Spanish employers sell him in the future, the north Londoners will be in line for a portion of the fee.

“Tottenham have included sell-on clause into Gio Lo Celso deal with Real Betis.”

The 28-year-old joined the north Londoners in the summer of 2020 from Real Betis but struggled to assert himself as a first team regular under a host of managers. Now, four years later, and he’s now gone full circle to rejoin the La Liga side.

Adding to Real Betis and Tottenham’s joint summer business, the latter have reached an agreement with the former to become Johnny Cardoso’s ‘priority option’ for the future. Should the English side against signing the USMNT international, Romano revealed on X that they will receive a portion of his any sell-on fee that his La Liga employers receive.

Tottenham Could Still Sanction Duo of Departures

Sergio Reguilion and Alfie Devine have uncertain futures

Journalist Alasdair Gold told his X followers that the north London-based outfit, despite the UK transfer window slamming shut at 11pm on Friday evening, could still sanction a duo of sales – one on a permanent basis and one temporarily.

Left-back Sergio Reguilon, who will struggle to earn a starting spot thanks to the ever-impressive Destiny Udogie, and youngster Alfie Devine, who was tipped for a loan move to League One outfit Birmingham City, could both be shipped off.

In terms of 20-year-old Devine, Gold reported that a number of clubs – Blackburn Rovers, Swansea City, Parma and sides from Germany – were interested in sealing a loan move for the attacking midfielder, but no exit came to fruition.

Why Arsenal Cannot Appeal Declan Rice's Red Card Ahead of Tottenham Derby

Submitted by daniel on
Picture

Description

Arsenal man Declan Rice picked up a controversial red card in the club's 1-1 draw against Brighton, which played a key role in the Gunners dropping points at home. He will now also face the double punishment of being suspended for the upcoming north London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

Mikel Arteta was left amazed by the "inconsistent" refereeing from Chris Kavanagh on the day, as Joao Pedro avoided a booking for kicking the ball away, while his own midfielder was then sent off for a similar incident.

Things had been going well enough for the Gunners, with Kai Havertz's first-half lob giving them a lead at the break. Not long into the second half, however, the game fell apart for the home team after Rice was sent off.

Already on a booking, for an admittedly rash first-half challenge, the England international clashed with Joel Veltman and when the Brighton ace went to quickly take the resulting free-kick, Rice tapped the ball away.

As a result, Veltman swung a wild kick into the Arsenal man and initially looked to be in trouble. He bafflingly avoided punishment while Rice was deemed guilty of 'delaying the restart' and shown a second yellow.

Rice Will Be Suspended for North London Derby

Most bookings cannot be appealed

As mentioned before, his red card has served as a double punishment for Arteta and co, as – having dropped points against Brighton – they will now be without the £100m midfielder vs Spurs after the international break.

With so much controversy surrounding the call, many may well expect Arsenal to try and appeal the red card. However, thanks to official FA Rules, this is not a possibility.

Indeed, per 90min, there is only one circumstance in which clubs can lodge an appeal for a sending-off as a result of a double booking. The red card would have to have come as a consequence of mistaken identity.

As this does not apply to Rice, he will have to sit out one game for the Gunners. And while it will be hugely frustrating for Arsenal to not have him vs Tottenham, it could be worse.

Indeed, after the derby away from home, the north London outfit then travel to the Etihad to take on Manchester City. Had Rice picked up a red card, he would have likely been suspended for three games, thus missing the two aforementioned Premier League clashes as well as a home match against newly-promoted Leicester City.

Arsenal's Injury Problems

Mikel Merino and Gabriel Jesus sidelined

Arsenal did manage to strengthen their midfield in the summer with the arrival of Euro 2024 winner Mikel Merino. However, his time with the club got off to the worst possible start as he was injured in one of his first training sessions.

The 28-year-old collided with a team-mate, resulting in a "small fracture" that will keep him out for a "few weeks". Arteta elaborated on the set-back ahead of the Brighton game, saying:

"Yes very unfortunate. Yesterday he had a collision and he has got a shoulder injury, unfortunately. It looks like he is going to be out for a few weeks.

"He was really excited and everything was looking really good. He landed on the floor and Gabi landed on top of him and it looks like he has a small fracture probably."

It remains to be seen as to who plays alongside Thomas Partey and Martin Odegaard against Spurs, could it could see Kai Havertz drop into the midfield? But with Gabriel Jesus strolling for fitness, that would leave question marks about who will lead the line away at Tottenham.

Two More Players Could Still Leave Tottenham Despite Transfer Window Closing

Submitted by daniel on
Picture

Description

Tottenham Hotspur could yet part with two more players despite the UK transfer window closing at 11pm on Friday evening, Alasdair Gold has reported.

Left-back Sergio Reguilon could still leave the Premier League club permanently, while Alfie Devine could go out on loan.

Reguilon and Devine Could Still Leave

No Deadline Day moves

Youngster Devine was tipped for a loan move to League One side Birmingham City, but that deal collapsed on Deadline Day. Blackburn Rovers, Swansea City, Parma and sides from Germany were all linked with the attacking midfielder by Gold on Friday morning.

Ultimately, no deal materialsed before the 11pm deadline. Gold had reported that Tottenham were initially planning on keeping Devine at the club for the campaign, so that could well transpire to be the case. But the Football.London journalist has since claimed the England U20 star could yet depart on loan for a club on the continent.

It's a similar case for Sergio Reguilon. He seems to have little future in north London after Ange Postecoglou told the media that neither he nor Giovanni Lo Celso would be reintegrated back into the first-team squad should they fail to secure a move.

While Lo Celso re-joined former club Real Betis in a permanent deal, Reguilon remains lampooned at Hotspur Way, despite not making a single appearance for Spurs across the last two seasons amid a triplet of loan spells.

Following the 11pm deadline, Gold told his followers on X...

"No exit for Sergio Reguilon or loan move for Alfie Devine in the UK transfer window. Both still have further chances in the remaining open windows across Europe in the coming days."

Transfer Windows Still Open

Turkey, Netherlands, Portugal and Saudi Arabia

While most major European Leagues will have closed their transfer windows at this point, many smaller top flights are still open for business. The most prominent of those are the Eredivisie (Netherlands) and the Primeira Liga (Portugal), which both close on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Super Lig - which is often something of a graveyard for high-earning players whose Premier League careers have fizzled out - doesn't close its window until September 13th, most likely to increase the chances of signing players from major leagues who've failed to secure a move elswhere and are now in need of an escape route.

There are also a host of smaller nations whose windows close between now and September 18th, including Switzerland, Greece, Russia, Serbia, Croatia, Belgium, Norway, Hungary, Austria and Poland.

It's far from common for Premier League players to enter any of these leagues under ordinary circumstances, but for Devine some of those countries may appeal if they provide a different footballing experience and exposure to senior football.

For Reguilon, Turkey seems the most plausible destination in Europe, although a move to Saudi Arabia shouldn't be ruled out considering the level of finance on offer. The Saudi window shuts on Monday for top flight clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with Real Betis over becoming the ‘priority option’ for Johnny Cardoso in the future, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who reveals that the 22-year-old has agreed to the deal with all the documents being prepared to sign.

After eclipsing their club-record acqusition with ex-Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke and adding young central defensive duo Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray to their squad, becoming the first-choice destination for Cardoso emerged at the top of their agenda.

Tottenham Reach Agreement for Johnny Cardoso

Postecoglou’s side get first priority

Following a fruitful summer, including the aforementioned additions of Solanke, Gray and Bergvall, Ange Postecoglou and his entourage firmly set their sights on Cardoso in what looks to be great contingency planning.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the ever-reliable Romano has suggested that Spurs have reached an agreement with the 22-year-old’s La Liga employers to become his ‘priority option’ in the future.

The Italian football insider, who revealed that a deal was close earlier, has now stated that should Tottenham decide against signing the 15-cap USMNT international in the future, they will have a sell-on clause.

“EXCLUSIVE: Tottenham complete agreement with Real Betis for priority option to buy Jhonny Cardoso in the future. Cardoso has agreed and documents are being prepared right now with Spurs. In case THFC decide against signing Cardoso in future, they’ll have sell-on clause.”

Cardoso has caught the attention of many clubs in European circles after racking up 1,512 minutes of action last term and with Giovani Lo Celso close to sealing a move in the opposite direction, this looks like a deal to benefit all parties.

Spurs Unlikely to Make Another Signing

Focused on selling Lo Celso and Reguilon

Unfortunately for those of a Tottenham Hotspur Stadium persuasion, Postecoglou and his entourage are unlikely to add another face to their ranks before the impending deadline, Sky Sports’ Michael Bridge has told GIVEMESPORT.

Tottenham Hotspur star Giovani Lo Celso is poised to officially bring the curtain down on his Hotspur Way career in the coming hours as he is set to join Real Betis in a deal which could see Johnny Cardoso eventually head in the opposite direction, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Spurs have been active during the summer window, with Dominic Solanke being the most expensive acquistion thanks to completing a move worth up to £65million from Premier League rivals Bournemouth, but boss Ange Postecoglou is on course to oversee at least one more piece of business before the 11pm deadline.

Lo Celso Heading to Real Betis in Late Switch

Spurs give creative midfielder's departure green-light

Although Tottenham have been quiet on deadline day, they have sanctioned Lo Celso's departure as Romano has confirmed that the creative midfielder is on his way to Real Betis with just hours to spare before the transfer window slams shut, and Cardoso could head in the opposite direction to north London further down the line.

Taking to social media, Romano said:

"Gio Lo Celso to Real Betis, here we go! Deal completed with Tottenham for Argentinian midfielder to return.

"Move completed with Johnny Cardoso as part of the agreement, as exclusively revealed."

The breakthrough in negotiations comes after the Italian journalist revealed that Tottenham were close to rubber-stamping a deal which would result in them having priority to sign Cardoso in upcoming transfer windows, while the capital club will also buy a percentage on a future sale in case they decide against taking advantage.

Offloading Lo Celso Was Among Priorities

Postecoglou went into deadline day wanting to sell 28-year-old

Tottenham's decision to cash in on Lo Celso comes after Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge told GIVEMESPORT that getting the Argentina international off the books was one of Postecoglou's priorities heading into deadline day, along with finding a landing spot for the out-of-favour Sergio Reguilon.

Tottenham 'Closing In' on Johnny Cardoso 'Future Option'

Tottenham Hotspur are close to agreeing a deal to get future priority on the signing of Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis, in a move that is part of Giovani Lo Celso's switch to the Spanish club, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Lillywhites are looking to shift Lo Celso in the final hours of the window, with the Argentine reportedly edging closer to a move to Betis.

As part of the negotiations with los Verdiblancos, the North Londoners look to have acquired a first priority option to land Cardoso in the future, while also agreeing a sell-on clause for the player, if he is to move in the future and Spurs don't want to activate their option to land the American midfielder.

Spurs Close to Cardoso Deal

The Premier League side get first priority

In what looks to be an excellent piece of long-term planning, Tottenham are on the verge of an agreement with Betis that will see them have the opportunity to land the talented 22-year-old Cardoso in the future. With Lo Celso finally departing the Tottenham Hotspurs stadium, swapping North London for the Estadio Benito Villamarin, Ange Postecoglou was evidently eager to bolster the terms of the deal from his own club's standpoint.

Cardoso, who scored once and registered two assists in La Liga last season, will be allowed to develop his game for another season in the Spanish top flight. If he doesn't make the necessary strides in his career that make him an attractive option for Spurs, they will get compensated by attaining a certain percentage of any sale sanctioned by Betis for the player, according to Romano on X.

Spurs Unlikely to Make Another Signing

Postecoglu has revealed

While Spurs fans were likely hoping for perhaps another dynamic wide player or left-sided defender, it looks increasingly likely no such deal will materialise. Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge spoke to GIVEMESPORT, providing an update on the Lillywhites' state of play on deadline day.
