Conor Benn was beaten by Chris Eubank Jnr at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with Simon Jordan mocking the north London club's lack of success over recent decades

Simon Jordan has mocked Tottenham's trophy drought after Conor Benn claimed he wanted to "go to an empty room" after losing to Chris Eubank Jnr. He was dealt the first defeat of his career at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Eubank Jnr and Benn clashed some 35 years after their respective fathers went at it in a world title battle. Nigel Benn lost on that occasion in 1990 and his son, Conor, was on the wrong end of the judges' scorecards as they all called it 116-12.

Benn hadn't tasted defeat as a professional prior to Saturday night, which came after he made the decision to step up in weight. He wanted some time alone in the aftermath of the loss and Jordan has poked fun at Tottenham and their lack of success - suggesting the club's trophy room would be a good spot.

Tottenham's wait for silverware has been well documented with their last trophy coming when they won the Carling Cup back in 2008. That remains their only success for more than three decades amid accusations they focus more on off field revenue than they do on footballing success.

Jordan said on social media: "Conor Benn has just stated … 'I'm devastated about losing this fight, I need to go to an empty room to gather my thoughts for a while'. Daniel Levy has just given him the keys to the Spurs trophy room and said crack on."

Levy has copped the brunt of fan anger with protests being held against the Tottenham chairman. He's been at the helm for years but his lack of ambition has been questioned numerous times. Levy has been through several managers and is tipped to axe Ange Postecoglou this summer.

He led the ambition to create a world class stadium for Tottenham, but their incredible venue is not backed up by stellar football on the pitch. It has helped create huge revenue for the club though and held yet another night of boxing with Eubank Jnr and Benn headlining the card.

Benn has has made it clear he wants to get his own back: "It's a hard one to swallow. I didn't come into the fight thinking it would be that close, I didn't come in to lose or for anything apart from winning. I want my revenge. I didn't think I lost the fight, but I don't want to be delusional and say I won the fight."

The terms have been agreed for a potential rematch later this year, although Benn has other options, but maintains he's not a Eubank Jnr fan.

"He still ain't my cup of tea, I wouldn't sit down and have a chat with him," he said. "There's respect, we've gone 12 rounds together but he's Chris isn't he? I like him as much as I possibly can, given the situation."

Tottenham have lodged a request with the Premier League to have their fixture with Aston Villa changed - the clash at Villa Park is currently set to be played on Sunday May 18

Tottenham are in the midst of discussions with the Premier League as they look to get their clash with Aston Villa moved. Currently the clash at Aston Villa is scheduled to take place on Sunday May 18.

The game at Villa Park is currently listed as a 2.15pm kick-off but Tottenham are seeking a change to the date and time. It is likely motivated by the London outfit potentially featuring in the Europa League final, which takes place on Wednesday May 21.

Tottenham produced an impressive display to see off Frankfurt in the quarter-finals recently - which has set up a semi-final with Norwegian outfit Bodo/Glimt. The club are looking to end a lengthy wait for a trophy and could face the prospect of a final against either Athletic Bilbao or Manchester United - who currently play Chelsea on the Friday before the final.

Should both United and Spurs reach the final, the Red Devils would have two more days to prepare for the blockbuster clash. The final itself is being held at San Mames in Bilbao and Tottenham's fixture change would allow them extra preparation for a potential final. They would need to fly to Spain in the day leading up to the game.

A club statement read: "We should like to inform supporters that we are in discussions with the Premier League regarding a change in date to our away Premier League match against Aston Villa, currently scheduled for Sunday 18 May."

Tottenham's clash at Villa Park is their penultimate game of the season with their season finishing at home to Brighton. Postecoglou has presided over a difficult season in north London with Tottenham losing more than half of the league games. They languish in the bottom half, which has cast doubt over the future of the Australian beyond this season.

When these two sides met back in November Dominic Solanke scored two of Tottenham's four as they hammered Villa to go up to seventh - before their decline began. They've already clashed once at Villa Park this term, that came in the FA Cup with Unai Emery's side winning 2-1.

Villa have since been knocked out of the FA Cup having been well beaten by Crystal Palace on Saturday. Tottenham enjoyed success in this fixture 12 months ago as they secured a 4-0 win at Villa Park when both teams were eyeing a spot in the top four.

Emery's side are in the midst of another battle to secure a spot in next season's Champions League. Five teams are eyeing three spots with Villa going up against Manchester City, Newcastle, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest.

Liverpool play host to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday knowing just one point against Ange Postecoglou's side will be sufficient to claim their first Premier League title in five years

The Premier League crown looks bound for Anfield as Liverpool play host to Tottenham in a glorious chance to finally wrap up this season's title chase. The Reds have looked like silverware shoo-ins for a number of months but will have their chance to make things official on Sunday.

Arne Slot has performed admirably during his debut season on Merseyside, losing just two of his first 33 league games in England. But despite Arsenal keeping alive some semblance of a title challenge, Wednesday's 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace means even a draw will be enough for the Reds to wrap up their 20th top-flight title.

This will be the fourth time this season that Liverpool and Spurs have faced off, with Slot's side leading the head-to-head by two wins to one. They triumphed 6-3 in north London back in December before each team took their respective home leg during the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

Liverpool went on to lose the final of that competition against Newcastle United but can redeem themselves by securing Slot's first silverware at home to Spurs on Sunday. Here, Mirror Football provides the information needed to tune in.

When is Liverpool vs Tottenham?

Slot's side will welcome Ange Postecoglou's men to Anfield on Sunday afternoon for a game with huge implications. The final fixture of the Premier League weekend will kick off at 4.30pm, and it looks as though there's every chance Liverpool will go out with a bang.

However, many English football fans face a choice in programming due to the fact this matchup clashes with the FA Cup semi-final between Nottingham Forest and Manchester City. That Premier League pair have a simultaneous kick-off at Wembley, meaning those watching at home have a decision to make between which trophy matters more.

How to watch Liverpool vs Tottenham

Sunday's showdown promises fireworks after these two teams produced nine goals the last time they met in the league. The Reds have looked considerably more tetchy in recent weeks, however, and it would be a shock to see a repeat of that action at Anfield.

Viewers in the United Kingdom can tune into the match via Sky Sports Main Event or Sky Sports Premier League, with the build-up beginning at 4pm on both channels. Alternatively, subscribers can live stream the fixture using the Sky Go app.

Trophy lift details

Five years after their last league title win, Liverpool fans are waiting with bated breath ahead of the trophy's return to Merseyside. But that wait will go on a little bit longer, regardless of the result against Spurs.

The Premier League's standard practice is to hand out the trophy to the winning side at their final home game of the season, which also happens to be the campaign concluder for the Reds, with Crystal Palace visiting on May 25.

It's then that Virgil van Dijk will hold aloft the red-ribboned trophy, despite him and his team-mates potentially getting over the line with four games to spare.

LIVERPOOL vs TOTTENHAM: Dejan Kulusevski has returned to full fitness at the perfect time for Spurs as they begin to gear up for next week's Europa League semi-final vs Bodo/Glimt

Dejan Kulusevski insists Tottenham must learn from their domestic struggles if they are to win the Europa League. The Swedish maestro made his first top-flight start in over eight weeks on Monday night as Spurs fell to their 18th Premier League defeat of the season against Nottingham Forest.

Now Ange Postecoglou's strugglers are on the chopping block at Anfield against Liverpool - a draw would see Arne Slot's Reds crowned champions - and Kulusevski expects a response ahead of next week's crunch European semi-final showdown against Bodo/Glimt.

He said of Spurs' inconsistency: "It's been really frustrating but I think you've got to respect the game and do everything right, every second of every day.

"It's not enough doing it just against [Eintracht] Frankfurt, we can't come out and concede the goals we did against Nottingham Forest and everyone has to take responsibility for that, every player and every coach, it can't happen. We've lost points that we should not lose, it's very frustrating, we have a lot to learn from."

Standard-setter Kulusevski is determined to rescue Tottenham's ill-fated campaign following a significant spell on the sidelines with a foot injury. He is optimistic his timely return to the Spurs fold can help breathe new life into Postecoglou's ranks.

The 25-year-old continued: "I was very angry [when injured] but you've got to think about the process, you can't give up and it's good to be back playing football.

"Now we have to be ready for the next game against Liverpool and then the Europa League. I've done everything possible to be back because I know with a stress fracture it's not easy.

"I couldn't move for a month with a boot on my foot but thanks to that, I am fit now and there's nothing to complain about.

"Honestly I feel great, Monday was my first start since Ipswich and I was close to scoring so I will take the positives."

Kulusevski might not be vocal in the dressing room but he always strives to lead on the pitch. He admits Tottenham have been suffering from mental and physical fatigue all season, particularly in the aftermath of their European exploits.

The ex-Juventus star said when asked why Spurs have failed to replicate their Europa League form in the Premier League: "You can see the teams that don't play in more than one competition and the teams that do.

"It's much more difficult because when you go so high, always the day after you feel so drained, you have no energy.

"This is what people need to understand, that's why you've got to do the right things to come back so you don't drop too much because you lose so much energy and things happen in your head, that's what us footballers have got to figure out."

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou is determined for his team to put in a big performance against Liverpool despite bigger priorities to come in the Europa League next week

Ange Postecoglou insists Tottenham Hotspur want to do more than come through Sunday’s visit to Liverpool without any fresh injury concerns. A point for Arne Slot’s Reds will confirm the title heads to Anfield and while Spurs’ focus is firmly on their Europa League semi-final next week, Postecoglou expects his team to put in a big performance.

Asked if Sunday’s top priority will be to emerge unscathed, Postecoglou said: “We want to do more than that. We want to go there and compete against a very good side and compete well. It's not about getting through unscathed. We want to play well against a top team. That's the primary importance to us.”

Looking beyond Liverpool towards the first leg of the tie with Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt, Postecoglou continued: “You just got to try and deal with what’s before you. We’re aware our league form and position is nowhere near good enough but we also know there’s an unbelievable opportunity on the horizon.

“That’s where the focus is and should be for a club that hasn’t a lot of success recently. The players have a wonderful opportunity. Collectively if we give ourselves every opportunity to progress to a final, the momentum we get that will give us a chance to do something special.”

Postecoglou, whose team have lost 18 times already in the league, also piled the praise on Liverpool boss Slot for how he has navigated his first season since replacing Jurgen Klopp. “He’s an outstanding manager and picked up an outstanding team. They’ve been brilliant in the league this year, really consistent and had their best players playing all the time at a really high level.

“That’s a credit to Arne, his coaching group and the players themselves. The fact they are on the cusp of winning another title is credit to them.”

The Spurs boss also said he had no issue with Cristian Romero giving an interview earlier this week in which he claimed that a transfer to La Liga would interest him. Argentina defender Romero did say Europe remains his top priority despite the eagerness to test himself in Spain.

And Postecoglou responded: “I’ve not read it too closely. But if you get asked the question you’ve got to answer it. If you asked me questions about my future, you’d get some great headlines. What matters now is not the future.

“It’s that we have an opportunity to do something unbelievably special at this club. For our supporters that’s what’s the most important thing right now. We’re in the last four of a European competition, that’s where our focus is.”

Dejan Kulusevski slams Tottenham transfer plan in furious blast: 'It's not good enough'

Dejan Kulusevski slams Tottenham transfer plan in furious blast: 'It's not good enough' - The Mirror
Description

Tottenham are heading towards the summer transfer window on the back of their worst Premier League season in recent memory and Dejan Kulusevski has gone public with his frustration

Tottenham star Dejan Kulusevski has furiously criticised the club's transfer policy and believes that he and his team-mates have been hung out to dry. Spurs slipped to their 18th defeat of the Premier League season on Monday, losing 2-1 at home to high-flying Nottingham Forest.

The result means that Tottenham are rooted to 16th place with just five games to go and only have the Europa League to salvage their season. Spurs beat Eintracht Frankfurt 1-0 last Thursday to book a semi-final tie with Norwegian minnows Bodo/Glimt, the competition's surprise package.

Injuries have plagued Ange Postecoglou's side, particularly during the winter. Kulusevski, 24, feels that Tottenham have been left ill-equipped to compete both domestically and in Europe, pointing the finger and the club's hierarchy.

The Swedish winger fumed after Monday's loss: "[The top clubs have] been doing it many years. They know exactly what they're doing. They're bringing in a lot of players that are ready to play both competitions. And they are prepared for it.

"This year we cannot say that we're prepared for it because we had so many injuries and we did a lot of things wrong from the beginning of the season and we're paying for it right now. After big nights like Thursday, you always go down. That's why teams who are in more competitions are paying [a price].

"We're not handling it right, we're not handling it well. Because after 16 minutes we'd conceded three goals, with the offside goal. Then it's hard to win football games. It's not good enough. Then we played some good football but if you're not doing everything right, you will not win games."

Kulusevski hadn't started a match since February and his return has been a welcome boost for Postecoglou, who faces an uncertain future - even if Spurs triumph in a potential Europa League final against either Manchester United or Athletic Bilbao. As a result, Tottenham have been forced to put their transfer plans on hold, a situation which will anger Kulusevski further.

Who should Tottenham sign this summer? Have your say in the comments section.

Defender Cristian Romero already has his eyes on the exit door after being linked with Atletico Madrid. Romero told TyC Sports: "LaLiga is the one [league] left to play in. I would love to, to tell you the truth. I would love to play there because it's the league I'm missing."

Spurs are back in action on Sunday when they travel to face champions elect Liverpool. Then comes the first leg of their Europa League semi-final, with the second leg in Norway coming after a trip to West Ham.

Tottenham's worst-ever points tally from a 38-game Premier League season is 44 and they're currently seven points away. Their worst finish is 14th place (1998 and 2004).

Tottenham are considering their next managerial move with Ange Postecoglou's future uncertain beyond this season as three Premier League bosses are shortlisted

Tottenham have added Mauricio Pochettino to their list of potential Ange Postecoglou replacement's with the Australian's future looking increasingly uncertain. He has presided over a poor Premier League campaign and European success may not be enough to salvage his future.

The north Londoners sit 15th in the table after losing to Nottingham Forest on Monday night - their 18th defeat of the season thus far. Their struggles domestically have coincided with a Europa League campaign that now has them in the last four - two games from a final.

A win in Frankfurt last week came as a shock but Postecoglou's European exploits have not prevented the Tottenham hierarchy from considering replacements. Pochettino was sacked by the club in 2019, just months after he'd taken them to the Champions League final, and he's now in charge of the USA.

They have a home World Cup on the horizon but Tottenham may still consider making a move for the Argentine, who himself has been open about a desire to one day return to the London outfit. Pochettino helped create an impressive young team, featuring the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Kyle Walker that finished second in the Premier League in 2017.

Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola is another man being considered with his reputation continuing to blossom at the Vitality Stadium. The Spaniard has led the Cherries to the top half and they were in the hunt for the European spots for months.

The Bournemouth bosses are growing confident they can retain Iraola despite the mounting interest in him, reports the Telegraph. They face a battle to keep some of their top players but having their manager remain could also prove crucial to their hopes.

Fulham 's Marco Silva is another manager who has outperformed his resources. He's been in charge at Craven Cottage for four years, leading them to promotion before consolidating them in the top flight, and at the weekend he told A Bola: “My head is at Fulham. We don’t control everything that happens around us. It’s not part of me."

Tottenham's technical director Johan Lange is a fan of Brentford’s Thomas Frank with the Dane taking the Bees from the Championship to the top half of the Premier League. He's continually had to adapt to losing his biggest names but that hasn't halted their progress.

Daniel Levy has been unable to find the winning formula at Tottenham with fan anger against him continuing to mount. Protests have been held throughout the season with the club's wait for a trophy nearing twenty years.

Tottenham Hotspur suffered a home defeat against Nottingham Forest on Monday night and could also be in line to lose one of their senior stars in the summer transfer window

Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero has opened the door to a summer exit. The Argentina international has been heavily linked with a summer switch to Atletico Madrid.

Romero joined Spurs from Atalanta in 2021, first on loan and then permanently. He has played more than 100 times for the club, though injuries have restricted his involvement - especially this season, when he has been one of a number of regulars spending time on the sidelines during a challenging campaign under Ange Postecoglou.

Monday night's defeat at home to Nottingham Forest was the South American's 18th league outing of the season. His biggest absence came when he suffered a hamstring injury in December, keeping him out of action for more than two months.

Since returning in early March, Romero has captained the team for four of their six league matches. The most recent of those, against Forest on Monday, saw the Londoners unable to fully recover after early goals from Elliot Anderson and Chris Wood set the visitors on their way to a 2-1 win.

With skipper Son Heung-min absent, Romero also wore the armband for the Europa League quarter-final triumph away at Eintracht Frankfurt. European glory remains a target, but a recent interview suggested the defender wasn't ready to make predictions over what might come after that.

"We're in the Europa League semi-finals, and I want to finish the season on a high note," Romero is quoted as saying by Los Edul. "After that, we'll see. My focus is always on growing and looking for new places to continue developing."

As previously reported by Mirror Football, Atletico Madrid are among the clubs keen on the defender. They could even push to land the player ahead of the Club World Cup in June, where they have been drawn in a group with Paris Saint-Germain, Botafogo and Seattle Sounders.

Romero played 45 minutes against Forest before he and fellow centre-back Micky van de Ven made way. However, manager Postecoglou said it was always part of the plan to manage the minutes of players with recent injury problems as his team gets in shape for the first leg of their European semi-final against Bodo/Glimt on May 1.

"It was pre-planned for van de Ven and Romero to play 45 minutes and the same with Kulusevski and Odobert who have not played in quite a while," Postecoglou told Sky Sports. "Everyone got through it ok I guess. That is one thing but we want to maintain momentum but we missed that opportunity.

"It is a bit of a balancing act. We have got to be ready for Thursday week, that is the big game for us. We have to have all of our players healthy and in good condition."

Arsenal host PSG in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final clash next week, but Luis Enrique has warned the Gunners they will not be given an easy ride

The Premier League title race could finally be over come Wednesday night if Arsenal lose to Crystal Palace. But the Gunners are already turning their attention to next week's first leg of their Champions League semi-final against PSG.

Mikel Arteta's men will host the runaway Ligue 1 champions at the Emirates Stadium next Tuesday. The two sides met in the league phase of the competition, with Arsenal claiming a comfortable win.

But PSG boss Luis Enrique has now warned Arteta and his side they can expect a tougher proposition next Tuesday. Elsewhere, Ange Postecoglou has been forced to defend his reign once again.

The Tottenham boss saw his side crash to a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Easter Monday. It puts them on track to finish in their lowest league position for 48 years.

But Postecoglou has dismissed the concerns over his reign, even as his future was plunged into fresh doubt. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest football news.

Enrique's Arsenal warning

PSG boss Luis Enrique has insisted he is not worried about Arsenal's threat from set-pieces. Enrique will take his side to the Emirates for the first leg of the Champions League semi-final next week, but has warned the Gunners he has no specific concerns about their threat.

"We will prepare in the same way as we did against Liverpool. They are a team that has at least as much potential as Arsenal, if not more. Aston Villa also had great potential in this area, as did the majority of Ligue 1 teams," he said.

"We will not prepare our team based on this aspect of the game in particular, but it is obvious that we must be competitive everywhere. I think we scored goals and I consider our level to be very good."

Promotion party marred

Burnley's promotion party on Easter Monday was marred by unsavoury scenes following a pitch invasion. The Clarets beat Sheffield United to confirm a top two finish in the Championship.

But Blades midfielder Hamza Choudhury became involved in an altercation with a celebrating Burnley supporter. Choudhury took exception to the words or actions of one of them and had to be dragged away from the incident, with boss Chris Wilder hitting out.

He fumed: “We were told by the ref before that we’d get stewards surrounding us, but I think they went on the missing list. Completely on the missing list. It was quite scary out there in the end, when people are coming and doing bits and pieces at you."

Postecoglou issues blunt Spurs message

Ange Postecoglou has bluntly insisted he owes no message to unhappy Tottenham fans. Postecoglou saw his side slip to a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Monday night, dropping them to 16th, which would be their worst finish for 48 years.

"I don’t need to say anything to the fans. The fans are disappointed and angry as we are as well. It’s too many losses I know that. I don’t need to tell the fans anything. The fans clearly wouldn’t be happy with our results but neither am I or the players," Postecoglou said.

"From our perspective, it’s something we need to accept responsibility that we have fallen short of the standards we need to have. The flip side of that is that the frustrating bit is it’s not because of the way we are playing because our football today was very similar to the Frankfurt game at home which was another game we should have won."

Premier League issue explanation after goal disallowed in Tottenham vs Nottingham Forest

Premier League issue explanation after goal disallowed in Tottenham vs Nottingham Forest - The Mirror
Description

The Premier League have confirmed that semi-automated offside technology determined a goal from Chris Wood should not stand in Monday night's meeting between Tottenham and Nottingham Forest.

Forest were already a goal to the good when Wood thought he had added a second. But while the goal was originally given in-play, VAR overruled the decision after watching the incident back.

The Premier League confirmed the reasons for the overruled, saying: "VAR checked the referee’s call of goal – and established that Wood was in an offside position and recommended that the goal was disallowed."

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith commentating for Sky Sports said: "Chris Wood is just on the last line of the defence and he is off. It was a beautiful pass into him by Elliot Anderson, played with real whip. Any centre forward would love that type of pass."

Fortunately for Wood - and Forest - the New Zealand star had the ball in the back of the net again just minutes later, this time with no question of offside.

It was another wretched start to proceedings for Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou who has seen the scrutiny on him grow in recent weeks. Spurs have endured a horrific season in the Premier League, though they could salvage their campaign by going on to triumph in the Europa League.
