Tottenham have advised that Aston Villa have taken a huge allocation of tickets for next month's FA Cup clash

Aston Villa have taken a huge allocation of tickets for their FA Cup third-round tie against Tottenham Hotspur.

The match is scheduled to be played at 5:45pm on Saturday, January 10, and will be broadcast live on BBC, TNT Sports and Discovery+.

Tottenham have confirmed that Villa have taken up their full allocation of 9,000 tickets for the fixture.

Villa’s larger allocation is due to FA Cup regulations, which allow away supporters to receive up to 15 per cent of the home stadium’s capacity.

Villa went on to win that match 2-1, with Unai Emery’s side coming from behind after Rodrigo Bentancur opened the scoring early on. Morgan Rogers netted a stunning equaliser later in the first half, before Emi Buendia sealed the victory with a strike from the edge of the box.

Villa are yet to release ticket details for the FA Cup third-round clash, but an announcement is expected shortly.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have advised that some North Stand season ticket holders will be unable to purchase their usual seats due to Villa taking their full allocation.

The club added that season ticket holders seated in blocks 420–424 and 515–519, along with a small number in blocks 112, 419, 514 and 520 who purchased a ‘Premier League Only’ season ticket, will be able to purchase an alternative ticket from 2pm on Thursday, December 18. Alternatively, they may request to buy tickets through the club’s dedicated South Lower sales window.

Wolves icon was valued more than Harry Kane and made Arsenal look foolish - Birmingham Live

Tottenham Hotspur hero Harry Kane represented Arsenal as a youngster but wasn't deemed good enough for the Gunners

Arsenal's decision-makers allowed Harry Kane to slip through their academy ranks as they believed future Wolves player, Benik Afobe, possessed the qualities needed to succeed ahead of the Tottenham legend.

Kane, 32, went on to bag 280 goals for Spurs and became England's record goalscorer. His massive £120 million switch to Bayern Munich in August 2023 has already seen him find the net an incredible 113 times for the German club.

However, things could have been vastly different if Arsenal bosses hadn't preferred Afobe over Kane, who had joined the Gunners aged just eight. Afobe progressed through Arsenal's youth system alongside Kane but later represented Wolves, Arsenal's Premier League opponents this weekend, on three separate occasions.

Afobe, currently plying his trade for Al-Arabi in the UAE at 32, managed 29 goals for the Midlands outfit. The DR Congo international also featured for Bournemouth in the Premier League but never came close to matching Kane's impact on the top flight.

Kane was reportedly thought to be carrying some "puppy fat" during his youth and was considered a poor runner. Arsenal simply felt that Afobe was the superior talent of the pair, believing he was more athletic, sharper in front of goal and stronger in physical battles.

Arsenal perhaps cannot be entirely criticised for choosing Afobe ahead of Kane, though. Afobe had attracted interest from Barcelona before penning his first professional deal, such was his potential at the time.

Injuries significantly hindered Afobe from reaching his potential in north London, leading to his departure for Wolves in 2014 after several loan spells.

Kane later confessed that being released by Arsenal, the team he supported as a child, after just one season fuelled his ambition to reach the pinnacle of football.

"Yeah, probably throughout my whole career, really," Kane said in September 2024. "Starting from when I was eight years old being released from Arsenal. That might have built a bit of desire to prove to them when I was that age."

Arsenal's former academy chief Liam Brady, a legendary figure at the club, conceded that the "buck stops with him" over Kane, despite not personally making the decision.

Kane joined Spurs at the age of 11 but nearly faced release as a teenager. He had to fight to establish himself at Spurs after being loaned out to Leyton Orient and Norwich, with additional loan spells at Millwall and Leicester.

Kane was finally given his first Premier League start under Tim Sherwood. However, it was Mauricio Pochettino who truly championed him and credits Kane's 90th-minute winner at Aston Villa in November 2014 as the goal which saved his job during a challenging period.

Former Arsenal academy boss Roy Massey, a highly respected figure, has also previously admitted that telling Kane he wasn't good enough remains one of the toughest conversations he's ever had.

Whilst they're currently performing well in the league, Arsenal will undoubtedly reflect on their mistake with Kane that proved to be extremely costly, not just in terms of goals, but also for their future finances.

Birmingham City face West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on Wednesday evening in a game that will see two former Tottenham colleagues go head to head

Ryan Mason admits he hopes to get one over his friend Chris Davies when West Brom face Birmingham City on Wednesday evening.

The local derby between Albion and Blues sees the visitors in far better form, having won five of their last eight, scored four goals at home for three straight matches and in ninth place in the Championship.

That’s eight spots – but only three points – ahead of the Baggies who gave up a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at Coventry City at the weekend and who have won just two of their last eight.

Another subtext will be the fact the match pits Mason against Davies who were coaching colleagues under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur until the latter left to take over at Blues.

Both are in their first managerial jobs and while Davies is thriving, Mason has had a tough start. The West Brom boss believes Davies is benefitting from being a year-and-a-half into the job.

“We need to be disciplined and not act emotionally. It’s important to use the energy and emotion, but we have to stay calm and trust what we’re doing,” he told the club website.

“We know in local games like this there will be plenty of intensity and energy. It’s important to manage that, while also using it to our advantage.

“I’m not surprised by how well Chris Davies has done at Birmingham. I consider him a friend, but definitely not tomorrow.

"I have massive respect for him as a human first of all, and I think the job he has done there speaks for itself. Our teams are competing against each other on Wednesday and we’re both desperate to win.

“Birmingham are a good team and they play with intensity. They’ve had a manager in place for coming up to 18 months, which I think is really helpful for them. We understand it’ll be a difficult game, as they all are in this division.

“At the same time, we’re at home and we’re playing in front of our fans. We have belief in ourselves and we’re looking forward to it. This group, and everyone here, is super determined to give back as much as possible.”

Mason has also reacted to what he perceives as negativity from outside the club: "I've got to be honest, it doesn't bother me what other people think, the most important people are anyone and everyone associated with the Albion," he said.

"I've always said regardless of how many games I've managed, I'll always be learning - in football if you stand still and don't want to learn, then the game passes you by.

"I'm determined more than ever to change the feeling, which is ultimately to win more games of football."

Kevin Danso left Lucas Digne with a nasty injury during Tottenham's 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa over the weekend

Kevin Danso has publicly apologised to Lucas Digne after leaving the Aston Villa defender with a gruesome injury during Tottenham's 2-1 defeat on Sunday.

Danso, who stepped in to replace Cristian Romero after the Spurs captain picked up an injury in the warm-up, caught Digne with a strong challenge in north London. Referee Simon Hooper didn't punish the Spurs centre-back despite Villa protests and Digne was seen visibly furious with the challenge on the pitch.

The Frenchman was then seen making his anger clear in the dugout and later posted a picture of his gruesome ankle injury on social media. He captioned his post: "No pain, no gain."

Danso took part in media duties on Tuesday night ahead of Tottenham's Champions League clash with Monaco. The defender was asked about the incident and has apologised to his opponent.

He said: "I saw the picture of his ankle, I didn't get the chance after the game but I apologised to him on the pitch and I would like to apologise to him publicly also, there was no malice in it. My intention is never to injure somebody."

What furious Lucas Digne did on the bench as Unai Emery posts social media message after Spurs win - Birmingham Live

BirminghamLive brings you the talking points from Aston Villa's 2-1 win at Tottenham in the Premier League

What a Sunday afternoon that was for Aston Villa.

Exactly one year after last winning a league game having fallen behind on the road, Villa claimed their fifth win in a row in all competitions.

Rodrigo Bentancur opened the scoring for Tottenham early on before Morgan Rogers scored his first of the season in claret and blue, firing past Guglielmo Vicario from distance.

Emi Buendía then came off the bench to complete the comeback for Villa, finishing what was another brilliant goal for Unai Emery’s side.

Here are the talking points from Villa’s win…

Villa's comeback in the capital

Coming back from behind away from home is often the mark of a team with strong character and mentality.

But Villa had lost 10 of their previous 11 away league games in which they’d trailed before beating Spurs on Sunday.

So, after winning four matches before the weekend, just what could a victory of that nature do for Villa’s confidence?

It was such a poor start to the season that a slender 1-0 win against Bologna felt more like relief than anything else, before a more convincing victory over Fulham a few days later.

Winning in Rotterdam meant so much for everyone connected to Villa — not only because it extended the winning run and made it two from two in Europe, but also because of what happened at De Kuip 43 years ago.

Beating Burnley was routine more than anything else, but travelling to Spurs began a difficult run of league fixtures for the club, with Man City and Liverpool to come, before high-flying Bournemouth head to B6 ahead of the November break.

Leaving Tottenham with a result was hugely important for Villa — for their confidence, more than anything else. It's their first statement result of the campaign.

Benefits of strength in depth

When you consider Villa have won five on the spin without their player of the season, Youri Tielemans, it’s even more impressive. And there was no Ollie Watkins from the start, either.

Instead, Donyell Malen led the line, but was largely ineffective, only threatening the Tottenham rearguard on a couple of occasions.

That’s not a swipe at Malen — we’ve learned in recent weeks that the Dutchman’s best role is to dovetail with Watkins, rather than compete for his place.

Watkins didn’t start as he wasn’t 100 per cent fit, but you wouldn’t have known it from the way he ran the channels and relentlessly pressed the opposition once introduced.

He was a nightmare for the Spurs backline in the final 30 minutes — they really did not want to see him come on.

Emery was full of praise for his striker after the match and spoke about how Watkins doesn’t need to score to make a big impact on the team.

On Instagram, Emery posted about the importance of having a deep squad with options:

“What a great victory today! This group, whether starters or subs, showed how strong teamwork is in every match situation. Up the Villa!”

Buendia proving the difference

Buendía came on at the same time as Watkins and made an even more telling impact on the game, scoring the winner in front of the travelling fans.

Now, with three goals in his last four appearances, it’s Buendía whose key contributions have helped drag the club out of a terrible start to the season.

The team has turned a precarious position into one where they’ve won both opening Europa League matches and sit just three points off the top three.

He’s making up for lost time after dealing with an ACL injury and then spending the second half of last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen.

Buendía had plenty of doubters before the start of the season — and to be fair, with reason, as he hadn’t shown his quality with enough consistency before this campaign. But there were mitigating factors.

How he’s responded to the setbacks and challenges he’s faced during his Villa career is admirable, to say the very least. More of this, Emi!

“It was a great quality goal,” he said on the BBC after the game. “I tried to find the bottom corner — it’s always hard, but we scored and we got the win.

"It is always important to work hard and push to be in the best shape for the manager. We have to fight for our places.

"We had a bad start; we couldn’t feel comfortable or compete at the level this competition deserves. But after the break, we showed different qualities.

"I think we have a really good squad, and good players who didn’t play today — they also have great qualities.”

Flowers for the full-backs

I wrote in my player ratings for the season so far that Matty Cash has been one of Villa’s best players this campaign.

His ball out to Lucas Digne, which led to Buendía’s goal, was outstanding — a real showcase of the right-back’s quality, even if John McGinn initially thought going back to Emi Martínez was the safer choice before Cash picked out that exquisite ball down the channel.

Cash completed 90 per cent of his passes against Spurs, played five into the final third, and won four duels while also recording four clearances.

On the opposite flank, Digne impressed too — winning seven duels, including all three in the air. Cash combined with him for that excellent move, but credit to Digne for taking the ball under control and delivering the assist for match-winner Buendía.

Most impressively, Digne soldiered on despite a gruesome injury caused by Kevin Danso, who trod on the side of the full-back’s ankle after following through on a clearance.

After the match, Digne shared a picture of the injury — a deep cut several inches wide on the bottom of his leg — with the caption: “No pain, no gain,” alongside laughing and facepalm emojis.

But he wasn’t laughing when he came off — visibly furious, he lashed out at the seat in front of him before calling fourth official Anthony Taylor to show the extent of his injury and exchange a few choice words.

Rogers takes another step forward

In Rogers and Buendía, two Villa players scored from outside the box in the same Premier League away game for the first time since April 2023 — when John McGinn and Watkins did so against Chelsea.

After scoring his first England goal during the November internationals, Rogers took another step forward in his confidence, hammering the ball past Vicario on Sunday.

That strike might not have come off a few weeks ago, but perhaps this is the start of a purple patch — that’s the fickle nature of football.

What was most concerning about Rogers’ start to the season was that he couldn’t get the basics right. But this isn’t a player who has struggled to prove himself in the past.

In fact, towards the end of August, Rogers scooped the PFA Young Player of the Year award. He just needed some support — and he’s certainly had it from Emery, who played him through his poor form as a show of faith in the 23-year-old, whose rise under the Spaniard has been rapid.

Claret & Blue verdict

John Townley's Aston Villa player ratings after Unai Emery's side beat Tottenham away from home in the Premier League

Aston Villa secured their fifth successive victory in all competitions by defeating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in the capital.

Spurs opened the scoring through Rodrigo Bentancur, who fired in from close range after Micky van de Ven headed the ball down for the midfielder following a recycled set-piece.

Morgan Rogers then opened his account for the season by looping an effort over Guglielmo Vicario from distance - Villa’s only shot on target in the first half.

Emi Buendia added his third goal in four appearances after coming off the bench, bending the ball past Vicario with his weaker left foot.

Ollie Watkins was only fit enough to start on the bench, so Donyell Malen led the attack but posed little threat on his own.

Minutes into the second half, Villa’s claims for a penalty were dismissed after Kevin Danso trod on Lucas Digne’s ankle while clearing the ball into touch.

Before Malen was replaced by Watkins on the hour mark, he had his first and only chance of the game. John McGinn slipped him in down the left side of the penalty box, but from a tight angle, Malen could only fire into the side netting.

Watkins' introduction changed the flow of the game, and a quarter of an hour after he came on, Villa turned the match around.

Matty Cash delivered a brilliant pass to Digne down the right channel, and the Frenchman controlled it before laying it off for Buendia, who finished with aplomb.

Player ratings

Emi Martinez Martinez could do nothing about Bentancur's goal. In the 28th minute, he spilt Wilson Odobert's shot but managed to gather the ball. He tipped João Palhinha's effort around the post in the 55th minute before denying Bentancur's header from the resulting corner, although the offside flag was subsequently raised. 7

Matty Cash Cash dragged a shot wide from the edge of the box in the first half and looked frustrated with himself for not hitting the target. He showed his quality by pinging an exquisite pass to Digne down the right, before Buendia then collected the ball and scored. Competed well and continued his impressive start to the season. 8

Ezri Konsa Konsa impressed today - steady in his defending and confident in possession, often stepping up to start attacks when he could. 7

Pau Torres Torres drove forward whenever he had the opportunity, as we’ve come to expect from him. 7

Lucas Digne Digne was an effective outlet on the left, stretching the pitch for Villa and delivering crosses into the box that either caused problems for the opposition or were blocked for corners. Took an excellent touch to control Cash's pass before playing it to Buendia to score. 8

Boubacar Kamara Kamara covered the pitch excellently, winning the most fouls (4) and duels (14) across the game. Ran out of superlatives for him. 8

Amadou Onana Onana returned to the starting XI today, replacing Lamare Bogarde. He played a short pass across the box to Konsa in the fifth minute, from which Spurs scored on the subsequent set-piece. He looked awkward receiving the ball at times and won only one of his five ground duels in the first half. The Belgian improved in the second half, but it seems the role he is playing doesn’t bring out the best in his profile. 6

Evann Guessand Guessand reliably provided defensive cover down the right, but there was limited attacking threat as Spurs contained him well. 6

John McGinn McGinn played in a more advanced role rather than in the double pivot. He threaded a ball through to Malen just before the hour mark, but the Dutchman fired into the side netting. 7

Morgan Rogers Rogers opened his account for the season with a lovely looping effort from distance, beating Vicario. Van de Ven picked up a yellow after being megged by Rogers - the Villa forward was simply too quick for him. Much better from Rogers today: scoring his first goal for England, and now his first for Villa this season, should do wonders for his confidence. 8

Donyell Malen Malen cut an isolated figure up front for most of the match, as Watkins was only fit enough to start on the bench. He had one real chance in the 57th minute. 6

SUBS

Emi Buendia (for Guessand, 61'): 'He's five foot seven, He's football heaven!' Outstanding off the bench today - Villa's match winner with another well taken finish. 8

Ollie Watkins (for Malen, 61'): Watkins was excellent after coming on. He stretched the Tottenham defence by running the channels and was a handful. 7

Ross Barkley (for Onana, 82'): N/A

Ian Maatsen (for Digne, 82'): N/A

Subs not used: Bizot, Lindelof, Sancho, Elliott, Bogarde.

GOALS

Tottenham: Bentancur (5')

Aston Villa: Rogers (37'), Buendia (77')

Tottenham 'pay for private flight' for star man as Aston Villa advantage avoided

After Cristian Romero's criticism last year, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly forked out on a private flight to bring the Argentine back to north London

Tottenham Hotspur have splashed out on a private charter flight to bring Cristian Romero from international duty with Argentina back to London, in an effort to sidestep another club versus country row. Spurs host Aston Villa in their first Premier League match following the international break this Sunday.

Last season, the north London club found themselves at loggerheads with the World Cup winners and Romero. Following Argentina's defeat by Colombia in a World Cup qualifier last September, Tottenham opted not to arrange a charter flight for Romero's return.

After Spurs' loss to Arsenal, the defender hinted the absence of a charter flight gave the Gunners an edge. He made this claim as Mikel Arteta's Brazilian stars got back to north London earlier thanks to their own charter flight.

Despite Tottenham's insistence it wouldn't have made a difference, they've decided to foot the bill for a charter flight for Romero, which will ferry him back after Argentina's friendly match with Puerto Rico in Miami.

According to The Telegraph, Spurs have dug deep into their pockets to ensure Romero returns with ample time before Sunday's showdown against Villa. Typically, national teams handle flight arrangements, but English clubs often share the cost of a private charter when the return journey is particularly lengthy, as will be the case for Romero.

Last year, they opted not to fork out for a charter flight, leading to Romero criticising their travel arrangements on social media. He shared a post claiming the Gunners had an upper hand as their Brazilian trio Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus managed to return to London earlier than him.

Spurs refuted this claim, pointing out Thursday is typically a rest day for their squad, while Arsenal often train on that day. However, just like last September, the club splashed out on a flight for their captain.

Romero's fellow Argentina international Emiliano Martinez will also be in goal for Aston Villa this Sunday. Spurs footing the bill for the flight ensures there's no potential advantage for Villa.

It also keeps Romero, who inked a new contract in the summer to become the club's top earner, content. Currently, he has little to grumble about at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Under the stewardship of Thomas Frank, Spurs have hit the ground running with four victories, two draws and a single defeat in their first seven Premier League fixtures. They're just two points adrift of table-toppers Arsenal and one behind reigning Premier League champions Liverpool.

Romero was instrumental in Spurs' 3-0 away triumph over West Ham United, which occurred on the first weekend following the previous international break.

The club had also splashed out on a charter flight for that match, with Romero and his international team-mates hosting Venezuela at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires earlier in the week.

Spurs midfielder Yves Bissouma picked up the injury just seconds after entering the field for Mali against Madagascar

Yves Bissouma has issued a statement on Instagram after he was stretchered off with an injury on international duty with Mali. The Tottenham defensive midfielder had only been on the field a matter of seconds when he picked up the issue on Sunday against Madagascar following a strong tackle.

Bissouma is yet to feature for Spurs this season as he has been building up his fitness following a knee problem. Slowly but surely, he was on the comeback trail after the injury had scuppered a potential transfer to Turkish giants Fenerbahce. However, Bissouma now appears to have injured his ankle and his left foot is now in a protective boot.

He said when addressing fans on social media: "Zero regrets. I once again thoroughly enjoyed representing my country, and if I had to do it all over again, I would do it for the love of my country.

"I fell, but I will know how to get back up. Every challenge is a lesson, every fall a reminder of my faith and my strength. This is not the end, just the beginning of a new chapter, stronger, more determined. See you soon."

Tottenham are yet to provide an update on exactly how long Bissouma could be sidelined for but our sister title football.london will be at Thomas Frank's pre-Aston Villa press conference on Friday.

The 29-year-old, who is out of contract in north London at the end of the season, was the first of two Spurs players to get injured while away on international duty after defender Ben Davies limped off in Wales' 4-2 defeat to Belgium.

Back in August, Spurs boss Frank omitted the Malian from his travelling squad for Super Cup in Udine against Paris Saint-Germain due to persistent lateness.

While the Dane declared he was willing to welcome back Bissouma with open arms, the midfielder has now faced yet another notable setback.

Bissouma was a prominent figure under Ange Postecoglou and played an integral role in the club's historic Europa League triumph - ending the gruelling 17-year wait for silverware.

He played 44 times in all competitions, scoring two goals and started both legs of the semi-final against Bodo/Glimt and the final against Manchester United in Bilbao.

Prior to that, he was on the periphery of Postecoglou's team before a heart-to-heart discussion with the Aussie amid a concerning injury crisis paved the way for his redemption.

Tottenham could be without another of their senior players when they host Aston Villa

Tottenham defender Ben Davies is set for further assessment after he was forced off with an injury in Wales' 4-2 World Cup qualification defeat to Belgium.

The Spurs' veteran was making his 100th appearance for The Dragons, but the night ended in disappointment for the experienced 32-year-old, who was captaining his country in the absence of Aaron Ramsey.

Davies went to ground and had to leave the field on 72 minutes as he was not able to continue. He was, however, able to walk off the field with what appears to be a muscular issue.

The former Swansea City full-back, who now operates as a central defender, is yet to feature for Spurs this season.

He battled through a knee issue last month and remains part of Thomas Frank's leadership group after previously playing an important backstage role under Ange Postecoglou.

While he hasn't been playing, Davies is a key voice in the Spurs dressing room and any layoff would still come as a blow to Frank, as the Welshman also sets the standard on the training pitch.

The Dane has already lost Yves Bissouma, who was stretchered off on Sunday evening just seconds after entering the field for Mali in their 4-1 win over Madagascar.

With two qualifiers to play in November against Liechtenstein and North Macedonia, Wales will be hoping to call upon Davies next month as they target a World Cup play-off spot.

The 4-2 defeat to Belgium leaves them third in Group J, three points behind second-place North Macedonia and four points off leaders Belgium.

Davies, who made his Wales debut way back in 2012, was praised by national team boss Craig Bellamy for his professionalism ahead of his 100th cap.

Bellamy said: "I watched the game back against Canada and he [Davies] was so good. He was just amazing in every part of his game. As good as I've ever seen him play for Wales, that was my feeling.

"We can all agree that he's been a top player. But we are all very impressed with him as an individual, as a person.

"You can see when he does interviews. He's very impressive. He will be a top manager if he wants to be. Or he could become a director of football, or a CEO [chief executive officer].

"He's that level and beyond impressive as a person. His level of consistency – and his consistency of being available – is a credit to him."

How Spurs are likely to line up against Aston Villa this weekend as Watkins faces fitness test - Birmingham Live
Description

Both sides are set to be without key players

Aston Villa may be without starting striker Ollie Watkins for their trip to north London as they gear up to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday (October 19).

Elsewhere in the squad, Youri Tielemans and Emiliano Buendia will be hoping to be cleared to feature, though neither is guaranteed to do so.

Villa aren't the only side with absentees, though, as hosts Spurs prepare to field a starting line-up missing many key players. Thomas Frank has enjoyed a successful start to life at the club, having joined from Brentford, where he spent seven years in charge.

However, the recent international break has caused staggered returns, with many players arriving back midweek. This means the Danish coach must balance squad freshness with upcoming fixtures, including a Champions League match against Monaco.

Tottenham Hotspur correspondent for Football.London, Alasdair Gold believes that Spurs will field the following starting line-up against Villa:

(4-3-3) Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Bentancur, Palhinha, Xavi; Kudus, Richarlison, Odobert.

This would see the following players miss out:

James Maddison : Still recovering from injury; has shared updates but is not expected to be match-fit.

Lucas Bergvall : Frustration over lack of game time; not expected to feature.

Pape Matar Sarr : Expected to be playing a late Tuesday World Cup qualifier for Senegal, so may return too late for full readiness.

Richarlison, Porro, Palhinha, Udogie and Vicario : Despite being named in the expected 11, all are likely to be involved in Tuesday night international fixtures, so fitness and recovery will be assessed.

Spurs currently sit third in the table, behind north London rivals Arsenal and Liverpool, while Villa are 13th after their worst start to a Premier League campaign since the late 90s.

Watkins' injury has made matters worse for the side. He has been the club's talisman since arriving at Villa Park, managing double digits in the league each year.

The England international scored against Wales before colliding with the post, which forced him off at half-time, showing glimpses of returning to goalscoring form as he currently has just one goal in all competitions for the Villans.

Evann Guessand, who Villa signed in the summer, could lead the line if Watkins is absent, with Malen offering another option to Emery.
