Brentford remember Docherty

Both sets of players are holding a minute'a appluse for former Brentford player John Docherty, who passed away this week.

Scoring 79 goals for the club, he was recently inducted in the club's Hall of Fame.

Here come the teams...

Kick off in west London is now just moments away!

Isak and Thiago leading the lines for both teams...

Sky Sports' Sam Blitz:

"A tale of two strikers on the pitch. Alexander Isak looks back in the groove after his goal and assist against Liverpool in midweek.

"The Newcastle striker created five chances in that game, the most out of any other team, showing how Brentford need to keep an eye on his creativity, not just his goal threat.

"And how will Igor Thiago look on his first Premier League start for Brentford?

"The 23-year-old's start to life in west London was damaged by a pre-season injury, but his selection has pushed Yoane Wissa out to the left wing - and last weekend's hat-trick hero Kevin Scade to the bench.

"Has Thomas Frank spotted something?"

Team news - reminder...

Brentford: Flekken, Van den Berg, Collins, Pinnock, Lewis-Potter, Norgaard, Yarmoliuk, Carvalho, Mbeumo, Wissa, Thiago.

Subs: Valdimarsson, Schade, Mee, Ajer, Damsgaard, Konak, Trevitt, Roerslev, Maghoma.

Newcastle: Pope, Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall, Bruno Guimaraes, Longstaff, Joelinton, Muprhy, Isak, Barnes.

Subs: Dubravka, Trippier, Tonali, Wilson, Gordon, Targett, Osula, Almiron, Kelly.

'We need to match Newcastle's intensity'

Brentford boss Thomas Frank:

"Newcastle are one of the most organised teams in the league and they deserve a lot of credit for their defensive structure.

"They're very strong in duels and their intensity is something we need to match.

"On top of that, they've shown their quality in attack, so we'll need to be at our best in all areas."

Quiet before the storm...

Sky Sports' Oliver Yew at the Gtech Community Stadium:

"Well the storm is already here but the supporters here are unsurprisingly taking shelter from the elements ahead of kick off.

"The wind is swirling around the Gtech with the rain still pouring down.

"Whatever side deals with the conditions best today, may well just win the game. It's as simple as that."

Frank 'positive' Brentford can improve away form

Thomas Frank is positive Brentford will improve their away form.

The Bees lost 3-1 at Aston Villa on Wednesday night to suffer a sixth defeat out of seven matches on the road in the Premier League this season.

While Brentford boast the best home form in the division ahead of Saturday's visit of Newcastle, Frank's men have only picked up one point in the top flight this term, which was a goalless draw at Everton last month.

"Looking back at the (Villa) game on the way home on the bus and also this morning, I am more positive. I think we played 20 good, solid away minutes, the first 20 minutes and were definitely more than in the game. Then we lose the game in 14 minutes," Frank told a press conference.

"For me I just look at the game, analyse it, analyse the performance, look into what was good, what was bad.

"When I look into the seven away games we've played this season, there has been one very bad. That was Fulham (2-1 defeat).

"When I look at this, it's not as bad. It's 14 brilliant minutes from Villa and they were good against us. We're playing a Champions League team. We are not a Champions League team. You could see the difference in spells yesterday.

"We have big expectation to ourselves and big belief. That's why it hurts when we lose a game because we knew and we thought we could do something. Unfortunately we couldn't.

"We showed many times we can play against any team in this division and go toe-to-toe, but we need to hit our highest level and we didn't do that.

"I don't see too big a difference and I am pretty sure over the course of the season it will even out more."

Countdown to kick off!

Carvalho gets his Brentford chance

Sky Sports' Sam Blitz:

"It's just a third Premier League start for Fabio Carvalho this afternoon in Brentford colours, since his summer move from Liverpool.

"The attacking midfielder has been forced to sit on the bench with Mikkel Damsgaard impressing in the No 8 role for Brentford - but now gets his chance from the off.

"His father's social media antics have been quite critical of Brentford's use of Carvalho so far this season. This is a chance for the 22-year-old to show what all the hype is all about..."

Holders Manchester United face a trip to Arsenal in the third round of this season's FA Cup as two of the favourites for the trophy lock horns early in the New Year.

In a replay of the 2005 FA Cup final, won by Arsenal on penalties, new Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim will take on the club who have won the competition a record 14 times, including in Mikel Arteta's first year in charge.

The real glamour ties see Tottenham visit non-league Tamworth, while fellow National League side Dagenham and Redbridge will make a relatively short trip to Championship side Millwall in January.

Elsewhere, Bromley, in their first season in the Football League and playing in the FA Cup third round for the first time in their history, head to St James' Park to face Newcastle.

Premier League leaders Liverpool, who beat Arsenal in the third round last season, face Accrington Stanley whilst Manchester City face Salford City in an intriguing between two sides in close proximity to each other.

Early West Ham team news

Mohammed Kudus is available after serving out an extended five-game ban. However, West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui suggested The Ghana international may not be thrown straight into the side after missing a total of five games.

Lopetegui also revealed summer signing Niclas Fullkrug was "very close" to a return following his calf and Achilles problems which have kept the German forward out since the start of September.

Early Leicester team news

Ruud van Nistelrooy will be without Abdul Fatawu, Harry Winks, Ricardo Pereira and Jakub Stolarczyk when he leads Leicester out for his first game in charge due to their respective injuries.

Caleb Okoli, who was involved in a collision with his own goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, limped off 35 minutes into The Foxes' defeat at Brentford but the Italian defender could be involved after training ahead of the clash against West Ham.

'Ruud' evening

The King Power will be teeming with optimism tonight despite Leicester being on the wrong end of a 4-1 defeat at Brentford last time out.

The Foxes were watched on by Ruud van Nistelrooy who takes charge of his first game as Leicester boss tonight replacing Steve Cooper who was dismissed after.

Van Nistelrooy: 'Great friend' Maresca convinced me about Leicester

Ruud van Nistelrooy speaks for the first time as new Leicester City manager and admitted that his great friend and former Foxes boss Enzo Maresca gave him advice ahead of applying for the vacant role.

Leicester team news

Leicester are confident Caleb Okoli will be fit for Tuesday's trip to Leicester after he limped out of the 4-1 loss to Brentford.

Okoli came off injured in the first half of the heavy defeat in west London, which midfielder Harry Winks also missed.

"Caleb was part of the team training today and looked good," said Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.

"We’re waiting on his reaction, he pushed to be there today. All being well, he can play tomorrow.

"Harry is doing individual work, he’s still not part of team training but his rehab is going well. Hopefully we can welcome him back soon."

Van Nistelrooy on what type of team he likes

Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy on what the characteristics of his team will be:

"I think of one thing. Before any game that I prepare, and that’s winning it. When you play top teams in the Premier League, or middle teams, or lower-ranked teams, it requires a different approach.

"The style of play is adjusted on how we can win. I’m not the romantic type of manager to put style in front of results.

"I love style, I love having the ball, pressing a team high, creating lots of chances, but we’re facing opponents here. We’re not the dominant side in this league."

Kudus back, Fullkrug close to return

Winger Mohammed Kudus is available against after serving out an extended five-game ban.

West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui, though, suggested Kudus may not be thrown straight into the side again.

"Mohammed Kudus is back, but he has missed a lot of matches," said the Irons boss, who served his own one-game touchline ban against the Gunners.

"He is fit and ready, which is good news for us because it is a good thing to have more players available."

Lopetegui also revealed summer signing Niclas Fullkrug was "very close" to a return following his calf and Achilles problems which have kept the German forward out since the start of September.

Lopetegui expecting demanding Van Nistelrooy test

West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui feels his side must be prepared to face a demanding challenge when they head to Leicester for Ruud van Nistelrooy's first game in charge.

Dutchman Van Nistelrooy has replaced Steve Cooper, sacked by the Foxes after just five months in charge, and watched on as his new side were thumped 4-1 at Brentford on Saturday.

The former Manchester United assistant coach and PSV Eindhoven boss will have had little time to work with the players as he looks to arrest a run of four defeats from the last five Premier League games.

Nevertheless, Lopetegui - whose team were beaten 5-2 at home by Arsenal on Saturday - will expect nothing less than a stern test when they head to the KP Stadium.

"I think that Ruud is a very good manager - he has shown this before in the teams that he has worked and he has experience in the Premier League," Lopetegui said.

"We have to be ready, because I am sure the next challenge is going to be very tough and demanding.

"That extra step and energy which happens when a new coach arrives is always important.

"Leicester also have good players, and the KP Stadium demands a lot, so we need to show our best version to compete there.

"I don't know what he (Van Nistelrooy) is thinking in his mind, but this is not in our control.

"One of the difficulties when you face a new manager is you don't really know what he is going to do - but I prefer to put the focus on ourselves and be ready to fight tomorrow."

Tottenham 1-1 Fulham: Tom Cairney scores and then sees red as Cottagers frustrate London rivals Spurs

Description

Tottenham's inconsistent form continued as Fulham clung on for a point after the visitors' captain Tom Cairney came on, scored a deserved equaliser to make it 1-1 and then saw red for a nasty challenge on Dejan Kulusevski.

Fulham were ruing a string of missed chances and saves from stand-in Spurs 'keeper Fraser Forster when Brennan Johnson volleyed in his 10th goal of the season from a counter-attack on 54 minutes.

But sub Cairney brilliantly fired them level 13 minutes later from Alex Iwobi's pass with his first goal in a year - and first away from home in the Premier League in 14 years.

There was controversy at that point as Cairney had come on for Sasa Lukic who had been lucky to escape a second yellow card for a challenge on Heung-Min Son. But referee Darren Bond was rightly swift to show Cairney a red when VAR advised him to watch the midfielder rake his studs into Kulusevski's calf.

That left Fulham needing to see out the final five minutes of normal time and seven minutes added on and, despite Spurs piling forward, Marco Silva's men managed to leave north London with a point.

There were boos at full-time from the home fans who have seen their side win just one of their five Premier League games after Europa League fixtures.

Spurs - who were missing ill Dominic Solanke, had first-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven out and Rodrigo Bentancur suspended - were far from their best here.

Son and Radu Dragusin were both denied by Bernd Leno in the first half and James Maddison saw a free-kick deflected against a post. But Fulham should have gone ahead from a couple of good openings for Raul Jimenez in that first period, when Forster was able to benefit from a poor touch and a miscued strike.

Fulham won the shot count and had twice as many shots on target as their hosts. Tottenham - at Bournemouth on Thursday - will need to pick themselves up after a disappointing result again. They sit seventh, three points off the top four. Fulham are a point back in 10th.

Postecoglou: Whatever we do well is used to bring us down at every opportunity

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou:

"Tough game, tight game. Not a lot of openings for either side. Just a few sort of opportunities to score. We started the game well and should have been on the up and put the pressure on but they then had their spells. We got our noses in front, and we couldn't push on. Not for a lack of trying, the players did everything they could, but we couldn't push on. A decent strike for their goal."

On boos and inconsistency: "I didn't hear that, if that's the case. I'm not talking about the supporters, I've had three questions on the Man City game and why can't we replicate that? We've lost significant players in seven days. It seems with this club, whatever we do well is used to bring us down in every opportunity.

"From my perspective, it's important we don't react to any of that and stay focused. I just sometimes feel like with the players we have at the moment, they are working hard to progress to where we want to be and we're still in good shape. A decent position in the league, Carabao Cup and Europe. We're still focused on continuing to develop."

Analysis: Ange's squad does not match his style

Sky Sports' Sam Blitz at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium:

The boos rang round at full-time and it felt like back to square one for Tottenham. Ange Postecoglou does not want his team compared to last week's win over Manchester City - but when are Spurs going to build on a performance like that, show consistency and go on a run to take them forward?

Their inconsistency is best shown after games in Europe. Since beating Manchester United - albeit a poor team in one of Erik ten Hag's lowest ebbs - after the first Europa League game of the season, Spurs have failed to win each of their four matches following a continental game since.

Three defeats to Brighton, Crystal Palace and Ipswich, now a stalemate against Fulham - and they deserved to lose this one.

The reason for this poor form? Concerns over squad quality and size can be argued against given Tottenham's injury list - added to by Dominic Solanke's unfortunate withdrawal with illness - but how Postecoglou has used his squad recently can be questioned.

Dejan Kulusevski played 90 minutes in Thursday's draw with Roma in a Europa League Spurs are likely to qualify for the next round - but could not start today due to too many minutes.

Heung-Min Son, Brennan Johnson and four out of the back five also started the game - most of them looked off as Fulham took control in north London.

Can Spurs use their squad better? It is becoming apparent that Postecoglou's vibrant style of play does not match the equipment he has available. The January transfer window opens in one month's time, if injuries continue then Tottenham need bodies.

Silva: It would have been painful to lose

Fulham manager Marco Silva:

"We deserved more from the game, deserved to win the game. Tottenham had good chances too, but overall we had more and more control of the game.

"It was a great first half from us, good chances, apart from the first minutes when the pressure of Tottenham caused problems. When we beat the pressure, we did well always. It's not easy to always be on top against Tottenham, especially with the front line and Maddison.

"The chances are the moments where we have to be more ruthless, then you can't give the chance we gave for the first goal. We need more responsibility from ourselves, but it was a great reaction from us.

"My view of the red card? We all know Tom Cairney, he's not a malicious player at all. Honestly speaking with you, I'm pushing him to be more aggressive in the right way of course. Looking at the images, you have to say he is unlucky. If you look just at the images, it's a red card.

"It would have been painful to have nothing from the game. In some moments we don't perform we want, but when we don't pick up three points we always deserved something more.

"Yes there were Tottenham injuries, Joachim Andersen not here, Andreas Pereira not here. If you want to talk about injuries for Tottenham look at other teams in similar situations."

Analysis: Fulham ruing missed opportunities this season

Sky Sports' Peter Smith at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium:

Fulham have now won on just one of their 15 trips to Tottenham in the Premier League - this could so easily have been a rare victory for Marco Silva's side in north London. Up until the 85th minute they were the side carving out the better opportunities.

Stand-in Spurs 'keeper Forster was sharp and the bar was rattled. Sub Cairney deservedly got them level but when he was rightly shown a red the prospects of three points faded.

Silva will point to a series of other fixtures this season where Fulham will feel like they could have got more than they did and with the table so tight there would have been the possibility to be in a much higher position than 10th. But the key will now be to build on the positives of their performances in the opening months of this season if they are to challenge for a European spot.
