The mayor of Marseille has demanded that his city's football club do not sign Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood.

Sky Sports News reported on Tuesday that Marseille have agreed a deal worth £26.7m including add-ons for the forward.

Greenwood spent last season on loan at Getafe after being suspended by United following charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.

The Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges, and Greenwood's long-term United future has remained under serious doubt, also amid a change of controllership at Old Trafford to INEOS.

Greenwood has now been given permission to have a medical at Marseille and discuss personal terms.

Marseille mayor Benoit Payan has said it would be "unacceptable" if Greenwood ends up joining the French club.

United have inserted a significant sell-on clause into the deal, which is thought to be between 40 and 50 per cent.

Manchester United have an agreement in principle with Lille for defender Leny Yoro, Sky Sports News understands.

The deal for Yoro, 18, is said to be worth €50m (£42.26m) and comes as United have seen their second bid for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite rejected.

One source claims Yoro wants to move to Real Madrid, but the Spanish side's offers thus far have fallen short of Lille's valuation.

The Ligue 1 club find themselves in a difficult situation because Yoro has one year left on his deal.

If he only wants a move to Real and Lille cannot agree a deal with the Champions League champions, he could yet stay at Lille and move for nothing next summer.

Yoro is into the final year of his Lille contract and can speak to clubs outside France from January.

United don't want to get embroiled in drawn-out sagas like in some previous transfer windows. They have a profile of player in mind for positions they want to strengthen and will have multiple players who fit that profile.

Hence why Everton's Branthwaite and Bayern Munich's Matthijs de Ligt remain live options in the central defensive area.

Man Utd's second Branthwaite bid rejected

Manchester United have had a second bid for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite rejected.

The offer was thought to be for an initial £45m plus £5m in add-ons.

United now have to decide if they will go back in with an improved bid.

Sky Sports News reported last month that Everton had turned down a first offer from United, which fell considerably short of their valuation of the defender, with one source suggesting the bid was worth £35m plus add-ons.

Everton regard Branthwaite, who played 35 times in the Premier League last season, as a key player.

Man Utd continue De Ligt talks

Manchester United also continue to negotiate with Bayern Munich over Matthijs de Ligt.

Talks with Bayern over De Ligt have been described as positive and there is a willingness from all parties to get a deal done.

Bayern want £42.5m plus add-ons for the Netherlands international, who is currently at Euro 2024.

Man Utd's stance on centre-back signings

United signing two central defenders in this window has not been ruled out.

United want to replace Raphael Varane after the Frenchman left the club following the expiration of his contract.

Further additions will depend on whether there are more departures in that position.

Victor Lindelof's future could be key. The defender has entered the final year of his contract and there are currently no talks planned over a new deal.

Fenerbahce are one of a number of clubs interested in the Sweden international.

Talks continue with Jonny Evans and his representatives over a new one-year deal.

Tottenham are exploring a player-plus-cash deal for Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey, with Giovani Lo Celso heading the other way.

Spurs want to sign a new central-midfielder this summer as a priority and Ramsey - whom they have a long-term interest - is one of a number of players they are looking at.

The north London side are exploring using Lo Celso as a makeweight in the deal.

The Argentina international played under Aston Villa boss Unai Emery before at two different clubs - Paris Saint-Germain and Villarreal.

Ramsey is a player Tottenham technical director Johan Lange knows very well having worked as Villa's sporting director before joining Spurs.

However Villa are not keen to sell the 23-year-old and have high hopes for him in the future.

Ramsey had an injury-hit campaign last season as he made 21 appearances in all competitions with his last game coming on March 2.

Meanwhile, Lo Celso struggled for game time under Ange Postecoglou as he made just four Premier League starts with 18 substitute appearances.

Spurs want to sign a versatile forward

It is also understood another priority area for Tottenham this summer is a versatile forward.

Spurs have looked at a number of players in this area, including Lille's Jonathan David, Wolves' Pedro Neto and RB Leipzig's Lois Openda.

But no formal bids have gone in for any of these players.

There have been three summer arrivals at Spurs so far with Timo Werner, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall all joining the club.

Who could leave Spurs this summer?

Tottenham are listening to offers for a number of players this summer.

Defenders Djed Spence and Sergio Reguilon are not in the long-term plans.

AC Milan are interested in signing defender Emerson Royal but there has been no official bid for the Brazilian from the Serie A side.

Striker Richarlison has publicly said he will be staying at Tottenham. There was interest from Saudi Arabia in January and, while Tottenham are not actively looking to sell the Brazilian, it is understood a substantial bid for the 27-year-old would be considered.

Midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojberg is a player Tottenham will allow to leave, as well as winger Bryan Gil.

Pedro Neto: Chelsea agree £54m deal with Wolves to sign Portuguese winger also wanted by Tottenham

Description

Chelsea have agreed a £54m deal with Wolves to sign Pedro Neto.

The deal, which was agreed on Friday, is broken up into an initial £51.4m payment plus £2.6m in add-ons.

The player is understood to be travelling to London for a medical. Neto has also been of interest to Tottenham this summer.

With three goals and 11 assists, Neto showed some excellent form for Wolves last season, despite suffering two different hamstring blows in an injury-hit campaign which saw him miss three months of action.

The Portuguese winger, who has been capped 10 times by his country and was named in their Euro 2024 squad, is set to join Cole Palmer, Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling as wide options ahead of the new season.

Neto would become Chelsea's ninth summer signing - with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, Aaron Anselmino, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu and Tosin Adarabioyo adding to Enzo Maresca's squad for the new season.

The Blues are also set to sign Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion in a £34.5m deal, with midfielder Conor Gallagher set to move in the opposite direction in a separate £36m transfer.

Chelsea have also held an interest in Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley as a potential replacement for Gallagher.

Why are Chelsea going for Neto?

Sky Sports' Sam Blitz:

If Maresca is going to build his Chelsea team in a similar mould to Pep Guardiola at Man City and Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, then Neto is a must-buy.

Both Guardiola and Arteta rely on "one-on-one explorers" down the flanks - Bukayo Saka, Jeremy Doku, Gabriel Martinelli and Jack Grealish spring to mind - and even over an injury-hit spell at Wolves, Neto has proven to be one of the best-attacking wingers in the Premier League in individual running battles.

Last season, Gary O'Neil took the shackles off Neto. "Don't turn it down, let's go every single time. Don't care if you lose it, test him. Let's go," said O'Neil last season when asked about his individual instructions to the Portuguese winger.

And Neto obliged. The 24-year-old was constantly involved in one-on-one battles last season but most crucially, there was end product too. Only Kevin De Bruyne averaged more assists per 90 minutes than Neto, who has the luxury of being equally effective on either flank.

With Mudryk, Madueke and Sterling also capable of one-on-one effectiveness, Chelsea look like they have an array of wingers to complement the aggressive style of play Maresca wants.

Miserable pre-season and 44 players - Maresca's problems stack up

The approach of a new Premier League season often brings hope, optimism and excitement. But in Chelsea's case, is it already time to worry?

It may only be pre-season but just one win from their five friendlies in the USA will not have been the start Maresca, preparing for his first campaign as a top-flight head coach, was searching for.

The Italian named strong sides in those games yet saw his new team concede 12 goals. The visit of Inter Milan - the runaway Serie A winners last season - in Chelsea's final pre-season match on Sunday is a daunting prospect.

After guiding Leicester to the Championship title in his only full season as a head coach, Maresca has been thrown into the deep end at Stamford Bridge.

The performances have been as disappointing as the results, with Chelsea's haphazard attempts to build play from the back contributing to a number of their opponents' goals.

Off the pitch, Maresca had to reintegrate Enzo Fernandez into Chelsea's dressing room following the racist video he posted on social media, while fans' favourite Gallagher is headed for the exit door as the Blues' sporting directors continue their youth-orientated overhaul of the squad.

Yet another busy summer means Chelsea's own website lists 44 players among their first-team squad. But if Maresca is hoping for some respite after a tumultuous pre-season, he'll be disappointed - Manchester City are the opponents for their Premier League opener, live on Sky Sports on August 18.

But who will be part of the squad to face the champions? Sky Sports tries to provide some clarity - and you can cast your vote too...

Read Joe Shread's full feature and have your say on the Chelsea squad here.
