Manuel Ugarte: Manchester United interested in signing Paris Saint-German midfielder this summer

Description

Manchester United are interested in Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte, with the Uruguay international one of a number of players they are looking at.

United want to sign a new central midfielder this summer and have made an initial approach to sign Ugarte.

He is one of a number of players the Premier League club are keeping an eye on as they look to strengthen in that area. As yet, no formal bids have been made for any potential targets.

Discussions are continuing internally over the next steps.

Ugarte, who is part of Uruguay's Copa America squad, made 34 appearances in all competitions for PSG last season.

The 23-year-old joined the French champions from Sporting Lisbon for a reported £51.1m last summer, with his contract at the Parc des Princes running until June 2028.

Manchester United's other main priorities this summer are a new striker and central defender.

Man Utd continue Zirkzee talks

United remain in talks with the representatives of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, with the club prepared to pay his €40m (£33.8m) release clause.

Discussions are ongoing over a move for the Netherlands striker, who is currently at Euro 2024 in Germany.

It will then be up to the 23-year-old and his representatives to decide if they want to speak to United over a potential move.

United have other targets if a move for Zirkzee doesn't materialise.

Arsenal are also said to be interested in the ex-Bayern Munich forward, while AC Milan were close to agreeing a deal earlier this summer, which means United could face competition for Zirkzee.

Man Utd remain interested in Branthwaite

United are also still interested in Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite but have yet to follow up their initial offer, which was rejected.

The England defender remains a primary target - but as yet, there is no indication from Everton that their £70m asking price will be reduced.

United will not go back in for Branthwaite unless they receive assurances that Everton are willing to budge on the transfer fee.

Everton rejected United's initial offer thought to be worth £35m plus add-ons, and United are reluctant to be drawn into a long-running saga.

Man Utd interested in Lille duo

Erik ten Hag's side have also made initial contact with Lille over the signing of central defender Leny Yoro.

The 18-year-old is among a number of young centre-backs United are looking at.

Centre-back is thought to be a priority position, with Raphael Varane leaving as a free agent at the end of the month. Victor Lindelof is also attracting interest from Turkish club Fenerbahce.

Manchester United are also among the Premier League clubs interested in Yoro's Lille team-mate Jonathan David, who is in the final year of his contract.

Chelsea and West Ham are also understood to be interested in the Canadian forward but as yet there has been no club-to-club contact.

Earlier this month, Lille President Olivier Letang said both Yoro and David would be allowed to leave in this transfer window.

Everton transfer news: Toffees agree fee for Marseille's Iliman Ndiaye with Bayern Munich interested in Amadou Onana

Submitted by daniel on

Description

Everton have agreed a fee with Marseille for ex-Sheffield United forward Iliman Ndiaye, while Sky in Germany is reporting Bayern Munich have an interest in Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

The Toffees have moved a step closer to signing Ndiaye after agreeing a five-year contract with the Senegal international.

The 24-year-old joined Marseille from Sheff Utd last summer in a reported £20m deal but has failed to make an impact for the Ligue 1 side.

Ndiaye scored just four goals in 46 appearances in all competitions for the French club last season.

But Sean Dyche's side will be hoping Ndiaye can replicate his form from his time at Sheff Utd which saw him score 14 goals and provide 11 assists as the Blades earned promotion to the Premier League.

Ndiaye could become Everton's third summer signing after the arrivals of Tim Iroegbunam from Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee and Leeds' Jack Harrison on loan.

Bayern interested in Onana

Everton's move for Ndiaye comes amid interest from Bayern Munich in Toffees midfielder Amadou Onana, according to Sky in Germany.

Sky Sports News understands the 22-year-old is expected to leave Goodison Park this summer and is valued at around £50m.

Onana joined Everton from Lille in August 2022 for £33m and has since been a key player for the Merseyside club having made 63 Premier League appearances.

The Belgium international has started both games at Euro 2024 for the Red Devils.

Young signs one-year extension at Everton

Ashley Young has signed a one-year contract extension at Everton, which keeps him at the club until the end of June 2025.

The 38-year-old, who was Dyche's first signing as Everton boss last summer, made 34 appearances in all competitions last season.

"It was a no-brainer for me to sign again," Young told evertontv. "I spoke to the manager before the end of the season. He asked me what I wanted to do, if I wanted to stay, and straight away I said yes because I loved my time here. Kevin [Thelwell] was the same.

"The size of the club, the staff, the players and, of course, the fans, who have been excellent... I loved my time here last season. We had ups and downs but I can see how big the club is and where the club wants to get to. I want to be a part of that."

Harrison rejoins Everton on season-long loan from Leeds

Jack Harrison has rejoined Everton on a season-long loan from Leeds.

The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at Goodison Park and the Toffees announced on Monday afternoon he would return for the 2024-25 campaign.

The winger told evertontv: "It's brilliant to be back. Everton is a great club, there is a fantastic group of lads here and I'm excited to get started again with a full pre-season of training.

"Last year, I had a lot of enjoyment at the club. We had to face a lot of adversity but we were able to continue on and have a good season overall.

"There are a lot of reasons for wanting to return to Everton. I think the club in general - the fans, the staff, the manager (Sean Dyche), my team-mates - everyone made me feel really comfortable right away and that's somewhere you want to be as a player. It's a great place to play football.

"The other thing is I know I have a lot more to offer. That's extra motivation for me to go back and prove to myself and to Everton Football Club that I can do more on the pitch. This season I'll be able to have a full pre-season and hopefully hit the ground running."

Newcastle are not pursuing their move for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

They had been in talks with the 27-year-old but a £40m deal has proved too costly.

Calvert-Lewin has a year left on his contract at Goodison Park and is a player Newcastle boss Eddie Howe had been monitoring for several years.

Calvert-Lewin, who has 11 caps for England, has scored 68 goals in 247 appearances across all competitions for Everton since making his debut in 2016.

Everton, meanwhile, are unlikely to sign Newcastle winger Yankuba Minteh.

The 19-year-old spent a successful season with Arne Slot's Feyenoord last year but has never played a game for Newcastle.

Newcastle have a serious offer on the table from Lyon for Minteh.

Both moves would have helped Newcastle and Everton with their respective issues around profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

Iroegbunam becomes Everton's first summer signing

Everton announced their first signing of the summer transfer window on Saturday, with midfielder Tim Iroegbunam arriving on a three-year deal from Aston Villa.

The 20-year-old, who has cost a reported £9m, was a European U19 Championship winner with England in 2022 and has also represented the U20s.

Iroegbunam came through West Brom's academy, making his senior debut in May 2021 before moving to Villa a month later.

He made his debut for Villa in February 2022 and went on to make 12 Premier League appearances for them, although only two were starts.

"We're pleased to add Tim to our midfield options. He is a young player who is still learning and developing but clearly has a lot of the qualities we want in that area of the pitch," said Everton manager Sean Dyche.

"My coaching staff and I are looking forward to starting to work with him in pre-season."

Villa are currently in talks with Everton to sign 21-year-old winger Lewis Dobbin.

PSR explained: What limits clubs spending more?

In the simplest terms, when every Premier League team tots up their annual accounts, they can have made a loss no greater than £105m across the previous three seasons.

Clubs can only lose £15m of their own money across those three years. So that's no more than £15m extra on outgoings like transfer fees, player wages and, in a lot of clubs' cases, paying off former managers compared to their income from TV payments, season tickets, selling players and so on.

The other £90m of any £105m must be guaranteed by their owners buying up shares, known as 'secure funding', and essentially means bankrolling the club.
