The midweek Premier League action continues this evening as Newcastle host Wolves.

The Magpies have won their last eight games in all competitions, and could move into the top four with a win.

Wolves have shown improvement under new manager Vitor Pereira, but have not won in the Premier League since Boxing Day.

We'll be bringing you all the latest from St James' Park right here, with FREE match highlights right here shortly after full time.

Wolves boss Vitor Pereira says confidence is key as his side prepare to kick off a daunting run of Premier League fixtures with a trip to Newcastle on Wednesday.

Last week's home defeat to Nottingham Forest was Pereira's first setback since replacing Gary O'Neil and dumped his side back in the relegation zone, with games against the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool looming.

Pereira will be boosted by the respective returns of Nelson Semedo and Matheus Cunha from injury and suspension for the trip to St James' Park, while Craig Dawson and Mario Lemina will also be available.

"Nelson, Dawson and Cunha will be ready for the match, but they are coming from injury so we need to be careful about the minutes that they can play," Pereira said.

Howe also praised 35-year-old goalkeeper Martin Dubravka - who has deputised for the injured Nick Pope for the Magpies' last eight games - for maintaining a "measured approach" amid links with a move to Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab this month.

"There's no change," Howe commented. "I think discussions will take place. I'm not directly involved in them.

"I think Martin's handled himself really well in this period. I think there's been a lot of noise, but when I look at him he's exactly the same.

"He's kept goal really well, and I think he's been very measured in his approach, he's never let anything off the field affect his psychology. I think he's been top drawer."

Newcastle trio Alexander Isak, Sven Botman and Jacob Murphy were all absent for the FA Cup clash against Bromley but manager Eddie Howe believes they should be ready for Wednesday's home game against Wolves.

"We'll have a look at them again today," he said. "They were left out for genuine reasons.

"So, all different things, but nothing major, we hope. Minor problems that we needed to settle down, fingers crossed they'll be there or thereabouts."

One player the Magpies will be without is Harvey Barnes after the winger was named in the starting line-up to face Bromley, but withdrawn at half-time.

Howe added: "Harvey will be missing for a period of time, I don't think it's a serious injury, but it will be enough to keep him out for a few weeks.

"I think we're probably looking around a month, don't hold me to that, but that's sort of the early assessment.

"He's had a scan, as I say it's not too bad, but it will be enough to keep him out."

NFL 2025 London games: New York Jets, Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars confirmed as designated teams at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Wembley

The New York Jets, Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars have been confirmed as the designated home teams for the 2025 NFL London games.

The Jets will play in the UK for the second successive year and for the fourth time overall after suffering a 23-17 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last October.

Cleveland return for their second London game in franchise history after losing 33-16 to the Vikings at Twickenham back in 2017, while the Jags will visit the capital for a league-leading 14th time after playing back-to-back games overseas for two years running.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will feature games with the Jets and Browns, while Jacksonville are back at Wembley for the 10th time.

"We look forward to welcoming the Jets, Browns and Jaguars to London as part of the 2025 NFL International Games," said NFL UK & Ireland General Manager Henry Hodgson.

"This season will see us surpass 40 regular season games in the capital, a testament to the role the UK has played in growing the game globally. The London games are a continued catalyst for year-round fan engagement and we are focused on serving our 15m fans, reaching new communities and driving growth in flag football participation, which now sees over 100,000 young people play the game."

Why Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans could be the best yet

It remains to be seen how the Jets will shape up heading into the 2025 season amid question marks over the future of four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers, whose hopes of steering the franchise to Super Bowl contention saw him suffer a season-ending Achilles injury four plays into his debut in 2023 before enduring another gruelling campaign on the way to a 5-12 finish in 2024.

The Jets are also set to arrive with a new head coach after Robert Saleh was fired following October's loss to the Vikings in London. The team is currently riding the longest active postseason drought in the NFL after failing to reach the playoffs for a 14th consecutive year, though does boast a star-studded receiving core led by Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams, alongside star running back Breece Hall.

"We are excited to bring the unique and entertaining atmosphere of a New York Jets home game to London as part of the 2025 NFL International Games," said New York Jets president Hymie Elhai.

"It is another great opportunity for our organization to build upon our brand and fandom in the UK which we have enjoyed cultivating the last few years. The success of the NFL's international games speaks directly to the sport's increasing global reach, and we are proud to continue as ambassadors of the game."

Jacksonville will again be led by former No 1 pick quarterback Trevor Lawrence, whose 2024 campaign was disrupted by a shoulder injury and a concussion, but will be guided by a new head coach having parted ways with Doug Pederson in the wake of a 4-13 record this season. Jags first-round pick Brian Thomas Jr has emerged as one of the league's most gifted young wide receivers, while former first overall selection Travon Walker is coming off back-to-back seasons of 10-plus sacks.

"We are once again delighted that we will be back in London later this year for our 14th game in the capital and are grateful for our extended partnership with the Football Association that makes it possible to play another home game at Wembley Stadium, one of the world's most iconic stadiums and the Jaguars' home away from home," said Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan.

"The game is the pinnacle of the amazing work we do every day at a grassroots level and I'm proud that our JagTag flag football program reached over 100,000 young people in 2024, helping to grow the sport of American football outside the US."

Myles Garrett looms as the chief attraction for the Browns as a perennial Defensive Player of the Year contender having managed 102.5 sacks since entering the league as the No 1 pick in 2017, second only to TJ Watt's 108 in that time.

Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy just enjoyed a career year with 90 catches for 1,229 yards and four touchdowns despite Cleveland's uncertainty at quarterback behind Deshaun Watson and Jameis Winston, while Nick Chubb remains one of the league's most popular players at running back after making his return from a long-term knee injury earlier this year.

Cleveland could touch down with a new face at quarterback having secured the No 2 overall pick at the 2025 NFL Draft after their 3-14 finish to the year.

"We're thrilled to be named a designated team for the 2025 NFL London Games, making our second international trip as a club and our first time playing at the incredible Tottenham Hotspur Stadium," said Haslam Sports Group COO David Jenkins. "We look forward to playing in front of our fans in the UK this upcoming season and to help continue to grow both the Browns and the NFL's global popularity."

The NFL has now staged 39 regular season games in the UK since the first between the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants in 2007, with October's match between the Jaguars and New England Patriots drawing a record London attendance of 86,651 at Wembley Stadium.

This year's game will mark the 27th to be played at Wembley, while Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will welcome its 11th and 12th contests as the official 'home of the NFL' in the UK amid the current deal that will see two regular-season games played at Tottenham each year through the 2029-30 season.

The NFL's growth overseas reached new heights in 2024 as the league held its first regular-season game in Brazil when the Philadelphia Eagles overcame the Green Bay Packers at Sao Paulo's Arena Corinthians in the opening week of the campaign.

Besides three games in London, this year's calendar will also feature a maiden regular-season game in Spain, hosted at Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. The league will also play in Germany for the fourth year in a row, this time heading to the Olympic Stadium in Berlin having played two games in both Frankfurt and Munich across the last three seasons.

Ange Postecoglou: Even 'world-class' Liverpool star Mohamed Salah would struggle at Tottenham at the moment

Ange Postecoglou has claimed even Mohamed Salah would struggle in his Tottenham side despite the Liverpool forward's red-hot form in front of goal.

Salah has scored 21 goals across his 27 appearances in all competitions this season and will now look to carry this form into Wednesday's Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham, live on Sky Sports.

Meanwhile, Postecoglou's side have slipped to 12th in the Premier League table following a run of four games without a win, which included a 6-3 loss to Liverpool back in December.

Salah scored two goals and provided two assists during that meeting and despite his scintillating form throughout the 2024/25 campaign so far, Postecoglou has stated the Egypt forward would still struggle to thrive in his team.

"Mo's a world-class player, but if you put him in our team at the moment, I'm not sure he would have the same impact because of the situation we're in as a group," said the Tottenham boss.

"He's playing in a fantastic team that are flying at the moment. I'd hazard to say that if you put Sonny [Heung-Min Son] in Liverpool's team, I reckon his goal-scoring return would be decent.

"It's hard for our players at the moment, they're trying awfully hard to be the best they can be."

No rush to determine Son's long-term future after one-year option activated

Tottenham enter the showdown in north London buoyed by the knowledge that Son Heung-min will remain at the club until at least the summer of 2026 after activating an option to extend his contract.

The South Korea forward is an influential player for Spurs, scoring 169 goals in 431 appearances, but Postecoglou insists there is no rush to discuss his longer-term future.

"It's not something that needs to be forced one way or another," he said.

"When you've got a player like Sonny who has such a standing at a club - and I know how highly the club regards him and how much he loves the club - I just think it'll all happen mutually.

"I don't think the club will be in a position of trying to force anything or Sonny would try and force anything.

"There is enough respect and credit between both parties that those kind of discussions will happen naturally and I think will come to a conclusion that everyone is happy with."

Ange: Carabao Cup success can help our future

Postecoglou has traditionally viewed league form as the best barometer of his team's progress but with 10 players out injured and Pape Sarr and James Maddison serving suspensions against Arne Slot's side, he believes something special could be forged in adversity.

"We're having a tough season. Our league form is really poor and we need to improve," he said.

"But we are in a semi-final of a competition and with the group of players we've got at the moment, if we can achieve something where they are in their careers, it sets you up really well for what we're trying to build here. I think it does.

"It's not the be-all and end-all, as I've said many times. But if we get to a final and win a trophy, we'll look back on this period of where we are as a small group of players having to rise above and beyond to get there.

"That will be as worthy of the achievement as actually winning it."

Tottenham 1-0 Liverpool: Lucas Bergvall strikes late on to give Spurs Carabao Cup semi-final first leg advantage

Description

Eighteen-year-old Lucas Bergvall's first goal for Tottenham has given his side a precious 1-0 lead to take to Anfield in their Carabao Cup semi-final with Liverpool - although it was a controversial winner.

Arne Slot's Reds were emphatic 6-3 victors when these teams met in the Premier League in north London in December but this was a tighter, error-filled contest which saw the top-flight's two leading scorers lacking their usual sharpness in the final third - until Dominic Solanke impressively out-muscled Ibrahima Konate for Bergvall to strike on 86 minutes.

Liverpool had appealed for a foul - and potential second yellow - when Bergvall slid in on Kostas Tsimikas a couple of minutes before he struck. But referee Stuart Attwell waved play on and opted not to later punish the Spurs teenager. Tsimikas was then off the pitch, having received treatment, when Bergvall scored.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was incensed. "[The ref] made a mistake in my opinion and I told him that. It was quite obvious I think and everyone on the sidelines knew it was supposed to be a yellow. There is a linesman there, a fourth official, there is VAR and a referee, and he doesn't get a second yellow. I'm not saying this is the reason we lost today, but it was a big moment in the game."

Solanke had already seen a goal of his own chalked off for offside, with the VAR call announced over the public address system by referee Attwell for the first time. That news was greeted by jeers from the Spurs fans and celebratory cheers from the Liverpool support - but the mood of those supporters switched with Bergvall's late intervention.

For Ange Postecoglou and his group, this could be a huge moment in their development. Spurs went into the tie already badly depleted and with new signing Antonin Kinsky thrown in for his debut in goal. They then lost Rodrigo Bentancur to a worrying first-half injury which saw the midfielder stretchered off and then taken to hospital. He later posted a positive update on social media, saying 'All good'.

But with Kinsky impressing in his first game, including a sharp save in second-half stoppage time to deny Darwin Nunez, Spurs were able to limit an off-colour Liverpool. They could have been ahead earlier, too, with Pedro Porro seeing a shot blocked and then chipping wide when Bergvall caught Alisson in possession. However, Radu Dragusin was needed to block Trent Alexander-Arnold's fierce shot on the line.

While Spurs celebrated what they will hope to be a turning point after a four-game winless run, Slot's side have made a sluggish start to the New Year, first dropping points at home to Manchester United in the Premier League and now they leave London with an uphill battle to turn around this tie in the second leg on Thursday February 6.

Spurs' controversial goal: Why did Liverpool want Bergvall sent off?

Postecoglou praises Spurs' resilience

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou:

"We're having to deal with adversity all the time. We started the game awfully well, and almost scored just before [the Bentancur injury]. Then we lose a key player in those kinds of circumstances. But all my players are resilient and they keep going, and they did that today.

"It's incredible when you think that we've got a couple of 18-year-olds out there playing out of position. A left-back who's not a left-back and a goalkeeper making his debut.

"The boys gave everything, we had to work hard. They put on some significant talent and we can't make those changes. But the guys kept going and we got a deserved goal out of it."

Slot: I never felt we were going to lose

Liverpool boss Arne Slot:

"I never felt we were going to lose this game. Spurs started better than us but after that we had control, much more ball possession. If you go down to 10 for a few seconds against a team that can play so good football like Tottenham can [score].

"If you ever have to lose a game it's better when there's still a second leg to be played. It's far from ideal.

"I don't think we'll reach that level [of the 6-3 win] in every game we play. We all know how important it is for us and also the Spurs fans to go to the final. We knew it would never be the same game as two weeks ago."
