Leeds 1-2 Tottenham - the fans' verdict - BBC
Description

We asked for your thoughts after Saturday's Premier League game between Leeds and Tottenham.

Here are some of your comments:

Leeds fans

RJ: Great effort by Leeds once again and probably deserved a point. But physicality and endeavour are only going to take us so far in the Premier League. Missed chances at this level are going to continue to prove costly. Dominic Calvert-Lewin in particular has to start putting away at least one of the golden opportunities that keep coming his way.

Apple: The home run had to come to an end sometime but it is sad that it had to be because of two deflections. On that performance, I think we should survive on the provisio that someone can put the ball in the net.

Danny: We matched Spurs during the game. The biggest concern is where the goals are coming from. A lot of good chances missed and that will be our downfall. It is very worrying.

Chris: Today showed how far Leeds have to go to stay in the Premier League. Some players are not physically strong enough to compete with the best and they are too slow in moving the ball forwards. Also, we were missing Dan James and Willy Gnonto who can get at opposition defences.

Spurs fans

Stan: Great to get the win in a tough match but the player that no one talks about is Guglielmo Vicario. We nearly conceded when Joe Rodon hit the post early on with Vicario flapping. Leeds' goal came after Vic parried the ball straight to an attacker, not the first time it's happened this season. True, he made two excellent stops late on, but he never looks secure especially dealing with balls in the air. We need to consider an upgrade or give Antonin Kinsky a turn.

Peter: What we needed. After a draw with struggling Wolves and at Bodo/Glimt, Thomas Frank must have been desperate for a win. Don't think it is worth criticising anyone for Noah Okafor's goal. I was really happy that Mathys Tel got on the scoresheet. He is good enough to start elsewhere but because we have so many attackers, he doesn't get many. He and Mohammed Kudus scoring made everyone's day better because they needed a goal to really get going. After seven games, third place!

Paul: A really good performance against a well drilled Leeds team that had not lost a game at home for a long time. We were good in transition and really ought to have another goal to the good by half time. We were caught out on a couple of occasions but other than we were solid defensively. Good to see both Tel and Kudus getting on the score sheet. Mind you, Kudus could do with releasing the ball sooner than he tends to. Overall though he deservedly was man of the match.

NFL London results: Minnesota Vikings snatch late 21-17 win over Cleveland Browns

NFL London results: Minnesota Vikings snatch late 21-17 win over Cleveland Browns - BBC
Description

The Minnesota Vikings denied Dillon Gabriel victory on his first NFL start as they snatched a 21-17 win over the Cleveland Browns at Tottenham.

Rookie Gabriel replaced veteran Joe Flacco as Cleveland's starting quarterback in midweek and his second touchdown pass helped the Browns into a 17-14 lead late in the third quarter.

Cleveland still led by three as Minnesota got the ball back with three minutes left in the first of this year's three NFL games in London.

But after almost fighting back in last week's 24-21 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin, the Vikings again showed great character to put themselves in position to win despite playing their back-up quarterback behind a depleted offensive line.

With 25 seconds left, Carson Wentz - making his third start in place of the injured JJ McCarthy - found Jordan Addison in the corner of the end zone to put Minnesota in front.

And Cleveland were unable to pull off a rescue act at the death as the Vikings celebrated a morale-boosting victory in front of a crowd of 61,082.

Sunday's victory also meant the Vikings avoided back-to-back defeats as they became the first NFL team to play two games in a foreign country in the same season.

Post

Minnesota Vikings 7-7 Cleveland Browns

Minnesota quarterback Carson Wentz wriggles away from the Browns defence to fire off a long pass to Jalen Nailor but it's pulled back for fouls from both sides.

The quarterback then opts to go himself and scrambles for five yards, before Ryan Wright punts back upfield and Dillon Gabriel takes the ball again for Cleveland.

Just over five minutes to play until half time.

Akers had it in the locker...

Minnesota Vikings 7-7 Cleveland Browns

Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell speaking on NFL Network on that trick play with Cam Akers:

"There's some looks that you get sometimes that make you think you can pull off a play like that.

"Cam and I have a pretty great history together, which started with me evaluating him in college where he threw about four or five touchdowns so it's something luckily we knew about that he could do."

O'Connell worked with Akers at the Los Angeles Rams too, winning the Super Bowl. Akers did throw the ball a few times at Florida State, going five for eight, but this was his first throw in the NFL.

'If someone's the very best, we're going to face off'

Minnesota Vikings 0-7 Cleveland Browns

Myles Garrett missed practice on Wednesday and still had strapping on his right ankle when he spoke to media on Friday, but good luck trying to stop Cleveland's defensive star from playing.

"I'm a never say die, kind of guy," he said. "So you'd have to kill me to keep me from being on the field. Pretty much."

Asked about facing Minnesota's depleted offensive line, he added: "That makes no difference. At the end of the day, I gotta prepare as if their starting line was out there. And last I checked, one of the highest-paid tackles (left tackle Christian Darrisaw), was out there and playing some good ball. So I have to be at my very best and make sure the guys around me are doing the same.

"I love going against the best. I like playing on the right side [on the line of scrimmage], just because that's what I'm used to, And you know, I mix it up, go left, right, and you know, sometimes we go to the three technique. But now if there's someone who's the very best and at my position, we're going to face off. And if he was on the left side, well, I got to make sure I go over there and see what he’s about.

"I think that was what last week was about [against Detroit]. I want to see Penei [Sewell] and Christian [Darrisaw] on my side, so I'll take the brunt of that duty, and I look forward to it."

Tottenham analysis: 'Kudus quickly becoming Spurs' most influential player'

'Kudus quickly becoming Tottenham's most influential player' - BBC
Description

Mohammed Kudus is quickly becoming Tottenham Hotspur's most influential player.

Since joining the club for £55m from West Ham this summer, the Ghana international has been a bright spark in Tottenham's midfield.

Now, having provided four Premier League assists, he finally has a goal of his own after scoring the winner in a 2-1 victory over Leeds at Elland Road.

"Kudus has made a really good start to his Tottenham career," said former Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney, who is a pundit on Saturday's Match of the Day.

"He already had a few assists but was missing that goal and he's got it now."

Spurs backed new manager Frank in the transfer window, shelling out £181m on Netherlands midfielder Xavi Simons, Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel, centre-back Kevin Danso and Kudus.

Sources told BBC Sport at the time of Kudus' move that he had prioritised a switch to north London despite at least six top clubs enquiring about the 25-year-old.

He cited Frank as one of the main reasons for choosing Spurs - a decision that is now paying dividends, particularly with injuries to James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski leaving them lacking creativity at times this season.

Kudus has played almost every minute of Tottenham's league campaign so far, creating 13 chances in the league - behind only Jack Grealish (17), Bruno Fernandes (17) and Anton Stach (14).

Against Leeds, he contested 19 duels, winning 10 of them - more than any other player in the game.

Tottenham Hotspur: Taking the knee 'no longer feels meaningful'

'No longer feels meaningful' - Spurs stop taking knee - BBC
Description

Tottenham did not take the knee before their Women's Super League match on Sunday because the anti-racism gesture "no longer feels meaningful".

The club's decision came after Spurs and England forward Jessica Naz received racial abuse on social media last month.

"As players, we have chosen to not take the knee before kick-off this afternoon. Instead, we will stand up against racism," Tottenham captain Bethany England said before their WSL game against Brighton.

"I have spoken to my team-mates at length, and we agree that taking the knee no longer feels meaningful. We are still seeing prejudice and racism, and there is so much more that everyone should be doing."

With October marking Black History Month in the UK, the WSL has invited clubs "to take the knee as a symbol of solidarity against racism and discrimination".

Brighton proceeded in taking the knee before their WSL fixture at Spurs.

Players did not take the knee before Manchester United's 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Friday or Manchester City's 3-2 win over Arsenal on Saturday.

Instead, both teams came together in the centre circle and linked arms. This gesture was repeated at West Ham v Aston Villa on Sunday.

Both sides took the knee in the matches between London City Lionesses and Liverpool, and Leicester v Everton.

The WSL said: "We acknowledge that not all players may choose to take the knee over these games, which follows the approach the Lionesses took in the summer.

"We have always been player led and we support each individual choice in how they mark the occasion in a way that feels right for them."

England stopped taking the knee at Euro 2025 after defender Jess Carter revealed she had been targeted with racist abuse on social media throughout the tournament.

The Lionesses stood before kick-off rather than taking the knee, with the substitutes standing arm-in-arm on the touchline in a show of solidarity with Carter.

Speaking about Spurs' decision not to take the knee, Tottenham striker England said: "This is not a tick box - this is people's lives, people's feelings. It needs to change.

"We will wear T-shirts during the warm-up which carry our message. This is our way of making a stand that this isn't acceptable, we stand with those who are still being subjected to such horrific abuse.

"We stand together against racism."

Naz said she was "done being quiet" after she was the target of racial abuse following Tottenham's penalty shootout victory over Aston Villa in the Women's League Cup on 24 September.

Spurs head coach Martin Ho said he had a "lot of empathy" for the 25-year-old and that she is being supported by the club.

"Jess is good. She is the same character - a bright personality with a smile on her face, enjoying what she does. She's got a good group of players and staff around her and a wonderful club that gives her that support," he said on Friday.

"We have to make sure we keep pushing as a collective to put things right."

Standing up to racial abuse

Emma Sanders

BBC Sport women’s football news reporter

You may have noticed that some teams are huddling together before kick-off in a show of unity in their battle against racism, marking Black History Month.

It is a player-led decision and was demonstrated before Manchester City’s victory over Arsenal last night at Joie Stadium.

City defender Kerstin Casparij posted on Instagram last night: “No-one wins while racism plays on. Racial abuse isn’t just one players’ burden - it’s our battle. To protect the game we must first protect each other.”

WSL Football have offered all clubs the decision on whether they want to take a knee but some, after the Lionesses’ decision in the summer to “stand up” to racism, have followed suit.

Tottenham forward Jess Naz and England defender Jess Carter are among those to have suffered racial abuse in recent months.

"It was about time, wasn't it? We've got big expectations," said manager Thomas Frank.

"I'm so happy for Mo - he needed that goal. He's been our best offensive player so far. You just see he looked a little bit more fluid."

Kudus' through ball teed up Mathys Tel to score his first goal of the season before the midfielder struck into the bottom corner to restore Spurs' advantage after Noah Okafor had equalised for the hosts.

"Kudus has made a really good start to his Tottenham career," said former Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney, who is a pundit on Saturday's Match of the Day.

"He already had a few assists but was missing that goal and he's got it now."

Kudus told TNT Sports after the win he had been "waiting" for his first goal.

"As an attacker it boosts your confidence when you score. This is a step in the right direction," he added.

Against Leeds, he contested 19 duels, winning 10 of them - more than any other player in the game.

"Spurs have spent a bit of money and now have a lot of strength in depth with plenty of attacking options, but I think Kudus has been the best of their new signings," said Rooney.

"He's brought a different aspect to the team, both on and off the ball."

His terrific dribbling ability is unparalleled in the league so far this year, while his agility and creativity make him a constant threat going forward.

"I like the way he takes the ball, keeps hold of it and buys time for his team-mates to join him further up the pitch," said Rooney. "He's an exciting player, quick, strong and works hard. Everything about him today was very impressive."

Former Newcastle United and England striker Alan Shearer said: "Most parts of his game have been brilliant this season, other than putting the ball in the back of the net, but he's off the mark now and that has to be a good sign.

"He was a real threat today and looks a really good addition for Spurs."
