Tottenham Hotspur vs Borussia Dortmund predictions: Backing a BVB win - Goal.com
Description

It’s 11th vs 10th at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Both sides are still in with a shot of clinching automatic qualification for the UCL’s last 16.

Best bets for Tottenham Hotspur vs Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund (Draw No Bet) at odds of 1.72 with bet365

Over 2.5 goals at odds of 1.72 with bet365

Felix Nmecha Anytime Goalscorer at odds of 5.50 with bet365

All odds are courtesy of bet365, correct at the time of publishing and subject to change

Momentum shifts toward Dortmund

Pressure is mounting on Spurs’ boss, Thomas Frank. Their latest defeat to bitter rivals West Ham was the last straw for many fans. However, Tottenham have faced similar situations in recent seasons. Changing managers doesn’t always yield rewards, especially if the squad is too unbalanced and ill-equipped to be competitive in both the EPL and UCL.

Their dreadful home form makes it practically impossible to back Tottenham against Dortmund. Spurs have only picked up two points from their first three UCL home games in 25/26.

With Dortmund buoyed by their last-gasp Bundesliga win over St Pauli at the weekend, we’re keen to back BVB in the Draw No Bet market. The betting markets offer a 54.05% chance of Dortmund winning, with a void bet if the game ends in an unlikely draw.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Borussia Dortmund Bet 1: Borussia Dortmund (Draw No Bet) at odds of 1.72 with bet365

Goals expected at both ends

Backing three or more goals looks like another sensible play for Tuesday night’s game. Dortmund have been involved in some hugely entertaining UCL games away from home this season. This includes their 4-4 draw at Juventus, when all eight goals arrived in the second half.

Five goals were also scored in their 4-1 defeat at Manchester City. Meanwhile, Dortmund also netted four goals in a 4-2 win at FC Copenhagen.

Tottenham have scored eight goals in three home UCL games so far this season. However, their opponents to North London have been Slavia Prague, FC Copenhagen and Villarreal. 83.33% of the last six meetings between Spurs and Dortmund have also featured three or more goals. Yet, the betting markets believe there’s only a 57.14% chance of it happening this week. It’s certainly an underpriced probability.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Borussia Dortmund Bet 2: Over 2.5 goals at odds of 1.72 with bet365

Huge value on Nmecha to be the hero for BVB

Despite the long odds available on Felix Nmecha to score any time at Tottenham, it’s a value price considering his UCL form this season. The powerhouse midfielder has scored three goals in six UCL appearances, posting a strike rate of 50% in the league phase.

Nmecha, who plays as a box-to-box central midfielder, will have plenty of opportunities to advance. Tottenham’s central midfield is one of their weakest areas right now, as they lack serious dynamism and physicality.

The former Manchester City youngster has scored just twice in the Bundesliga so far this season. However, his attributes seem to be suiting Dortmund’s UCL campaign. The betting markets believe he only has a 13.33% chance of scoring on Tuesday night. Considering his current UCL strike rate, this seems like the most serious value bet from our trio of Tottenham vs Borussia Dortmund predictions.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Borussia Dortmund Bet 3: Felix Nmecha Anytime Goalscorer at odds of 5.50 with bet365

Our analysis: Form of both teams

Score prediction – Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Borussia Dortmund

Goalscorers prediction – Tottenham Hotspur: Kolo Muani – Dortmund: Nmecha, Guirassy

Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund lock horns on Tuesday night. Both teams are still harbouring aspirations of a top-eight UCL league-phase position.

There is increasing pressure surrounding Spurs’ boss, Thomas Frank. This comes after Tottenham’s 2-1 home defeat to London rivals West Ham on Saturday. Tottenham now sit in 14th place, having won one of their last six Premier League games.

Their Champions League form, however, tells a different story. With three wins, two draws and one loss from their opening six league-phase games, they sit just a point off the top eight. Their +8 goal difference is better than four of the eight teams currently sitting in the top eight.

It’s a similar story for Borussia Dortmund, who have an identical record in the UCL this season. That includes their +6 goal difference. They’ve scored 19 goals compared to Spurs’ 13.

Domestically, Dortmund are in a far better shape. BVB have lost just one of their 18 Bundesliga games so far this season. They still sit a whopping 11 points adrift of leaders Bayern Munich, despite sitting six points clear of third-placed Hoffenheim. Dortmund also average fewer than a goal conceded per game domestically.

Probable lineups for Tottenham Hotspur vs Borussia Dortmund

Tottenham Hotspur expected lineup: Vicario, Gray, Porro, Romero, Danso, Bergvall, Bissouma, Odobert, Simons, Tel, Kolo Muani

Destiny Udogie victim of car break-in as thieves smash into vehicle during Spurs game just months after left-back was threatened with a gun by an agent - Goal.com
Description

Udogie is having a difficult season at Tottenham, for many reasons. He has fallen out of favour under current boss Thomas Frank, and the left-back has been the victim of a number of shocking incidents. In September, Udogie allegedly had a gun pointed at him by an agent, who was later arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with the intent to cause fear of violence. The accused was also under investigation over allegations of blackmail and making threats towards the Italian's friend. However, he has not been charged with any offence.

At the time, the police's statement said: "Police were called at 23.14hrs on Saturday, 6 September, to reports a man in his 20s had been threatened with a firearm. Officers spoke to the victim and during the course of their investigation, it was also reported another man in his 20s had also allegedly been blackmailed and threatened by the same individual. No injuries were reported in either incident. A 31-year-old man was arrested on Monday, 8 September on suspicion of possession of firearms with intent, blackmail and driving without a licence. He has been bailed while enquiries continue."

Head coach Frank also expressed his sympathy to the Tottenham player, saying it was a "terrible situation".

He added: "It is a terrible situation to have been in and I can't speak too much about it as it's a legal case, as we know, but the club and we have done everything we can to support him. We'll do that and he's clearly doing well on the pitch, which is good and we'll keep supporting him."

Tottenham's misery continues as key player ruled out for three months after surgery

Tottenham's misery continues as key player ruled out for three months after surgery - Goal.com
Description

The clouds gathering over the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have darkened significantly this week. The club have officially confirmed that Bentancur, a linchpin of their midfield, has undergone successful surgery on his right hamstring but now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The Uruguay international sustained the damage during last week’s dispiriting Premier League defeat away at Bournemouth, a result that left Spurs languishing in 14th place and piled further pressure on head coach Frank.

With the 28-year-old not expected to return until late April at the earliest, according to BBC Sport, his season is effectively over for all meaningful purposes. The timing could not be worse for Frank, whose midfield options are already stretched to the breaking point. The loss of Bentancur deprives the side of their most composed ball-player in the engine room, a calmness they sorely lacked during the chaotic FA Cup exit to Aston Villa on Saturday.

Bentancur’s absence is merely the latest chapter in a catalogue of medical misfortunes that have plagued Tottenham’s campaign. He joins fellow key star Mohammed Kudus in the treatment room, with the Ghana winger ruled out until after the March international break due to a severe thigh injury. To lose two of the squad's most dynamic creative outlets simultaneously has left the team looking toothless and devoid of ideas in the final third.

A statement on the club's website read: "We can confirm that Rodrigo Bentancur has undergone surgery on his right hamstring. The Uruguay international midfielder suffered the injury during our Premier League fixture at Bournemouth last week and will now commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff."

The atmosphere in north London has turned toxic. The FA Cup third-round defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend served as a flashpoint for supporter anger. Fans booed the team off the pitch at half-time with the scoreline reading 2-0 to the visitors, a stark illustration of the disconnect between the stands and the squad. But the frustration runs far deeper than just results on the pitch; it is directed squarely at the governance of the club.

Supporters are now mobilising. The fan group Change for Tottenham has organised a major protest scheduled for Saturday’s home fixture against West Ham United. They have issued a rallying cry for fans to bring yellow banners, flags, and scarves to create a visual "wall of yellow" inside the stadium before kick-off, symbolising a warning to the owners that their patience has evaporated.

In a statement released this week, the group said: "There is growing frustration within the fanbase surrounding the board's transfer strategy, clarity on the director of football role, our continuous injury crises season after season, recent results/performances on the pitch and extortionate ticket prices. We believe acting now will hopefully mean our voices are heard at such a pivotal time during the January transfer window."

Caught in the crossfire is Frank. The manager arrived with a reputation for smart, tactical football, but his tenure is threatening to unravel under the weight of institutional instability. The sale of Brennan Johnson to London rivals Crystal Palace mid-season was viewed by many as a surrender, a signal that balancing the books has taken precedence over competitive ambition.

The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters' Trust (THST) has publicly accused the club of a "dramatic fall in ambition" following a tense meeting with senior figures. The narrative of a fresh start post-Daniel Levy has quickly soured. When Levy stood down, the new leadership triumvirate, comprising representatives from The Lewis Family Trust, Vinai Venkatesham and Fabio Paratici, promised a renewed focus on winning trophies. Those promises now ring hollow to a fanbase watching their team drift into obscurity.

The coming days represent a critical juncture for Tottenham Hotspur. On the pitch, they must navigate a London derby against West Ham without their best midfielder and their most dangerous winger. A defeat against the Hammers, set against the backdrop of a stadium filled with protest banners, could make Frank’s position untenable.

Spurs reject Radu Dragusin loan bid as Roma face disappointment in pursuit of Premier League defender

Spurs reject Radu Dragusin loan bid as Roma face disappointment in pursuit of Premier League defender - Goal.com
Description

Dragusin shone at Genoa in Serie A prior to his move to Spurs, when he became the most expensive Romanian player in history following his £21.5million ($28.8m) transfer in January 2024. The defender was largely used as a back-up under previous boss Ange Postecoglou, though he got a regular run in the side amidst a defensive injury crisis last season. Spurs protected his own return to fitness, blocking Romania from calling him up to their national side in October.

Whether Dragusin is likely to be given more first-team opportunities across competitions under Frank remains to be seen, but it appears that a January loan move to Roma is off after the Italian club’s advances were rebuffed, as per Mail Sport.

Roma currently sit third in Serie A and looked to Dragusin to help maintain an unlikely title push, just three points off Inter Milan at the top having played two games more. Though it now appears that they may be forced to search elsewhere.

Dragusin had already said yes to the move as per Fabrizio Romano, who recently reported on his Italian YouTube channel, as relayed by GiveMeSport: “Roma continue to work on Radu Dragusin, because Roma have had concrete contacts with Tottenham. The relationship is very good.

“The player has already said yes to Roma. Dragusin is ready to go to Roma. I was telling you in December to keep an eye on Roma and Fiorentina.

"Roma have arrived. Roma have arrived strongly. Roma have arrived with direct contact with Tottenham, with an agreement already made with the player. Dragusin has let Tottenham know that he would welcome a move to Roma, the opportunity to return to Italy after a long time out due to injury.”

This month may prove an important one for Dragusin, who has spent a long time out with injury and will hope to return to playing regular football once again as he hopes to get his young career back on the right track. Still just 23, the Romania international has much room to develop his game but will be hoping to play regularly in order to achieve this.

Whether Spurs will sanction another move elsewhere, possibly on a permanent deal rather than a loan, remains to be seen. Otherwise, the defender will hope to impress new boss Frank so that he gets more opportunities to feature for a struggling Spurs defence who could do with the extra competition at present. Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero remain first choice but both players have previously been linked with moves away and may be tempted by the opportunity to challenge for the biggest prizes elsewhere.

Elsewhere at the club, Dragusin is not the only man hoping to depart this month as Mathys Tel is reportedly also exploring his options elsewhere, in a hope to make France’s World Cup squad for next summer. The 20-year-old has made just seven starts under Frank in all competitions this season, scoring three goals, and joined Spurs in a permanent £29.8m ($39.9m) last summer. He has also been linked with Roma recently.

Spurs were dumped out of the FA Cup 2-1 by Aston Villa on Saturday evening and the pressure on head coach Frank is set to increase further if improvements are not made on the pitch.

Tottenham Hotspur injury crisis goes from bad to WORSE! Richarlison limps out of FA Cup tie with Aston Villa after suffering suspected hamstring issue

Tottenham Hotspur injury crisis goes from bad to WORSE! Richarlison limps out of FA Cup tie with Aston Villa after suffering suspected hamstring issue - Goal.com
Description

After starting Wednesday’s 3-2 Premier League defeat against Bournemouth on the bench, Richarlison was brought back into the starting lineup as Tottenham looked to secure a morale-boosting victory over high-flying Villa.

Having collected just one win from their last six games beforehand, Spurs head coach Thomas Frank was looking to ease the pressure on his position against Unai Emery’s Villains, who are currently third in the Premier League.

However, both Richarlison and Spurs’ night got off to the worst start when Argentina midfielder Emi Buendia fired Villa in front after just 22 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And their misery was compounded when former Everton and Watford forward Richarlison went down with what appeared to be a hamstring complaint just a few minutes later.

After receiving treatment from the Tottenham physios, the attacker was unable to continue and was subsequently replaced by Randal Kolo Muani, who was dropped to the bench after starting against Bournemouth.

Following Richarlison’s departure, Spurs soon found themselves two-nil down when in-form Villa star Morgan Rogers beat Guglielmo Vicario with a composed left-footed finish in the third minute of additional time at the end of the first half.

In an improved second-half display, Tottenham reduced the arrears when Wilson Odobert scored his second goal of the season after 54 minutes. However, as Frank’s men huffed and puffed for an equaliser, they thought they found it when Xavi Simons rounded Marco Bizot and steered the ball into an empty net, only for the effort to be ruled out for offside.

And Spurs were then consigned to their 11th defeat of the season as Villa saw out four minutes of stoppage time to record their 13th victory in their last 15 games in all competitions.

Speaking after scoring what proved to be the winner, England international Rogers told the BBC: “We were good the first half, second half they came out really well. We had to dig deep and I think we deserved the win in the end.

“I feel really good, I’m in a good bit of form, but so are the team as a collective. This was a big test and I think we overcame it really well.”

Tottenham will now be praying Richarlison is not on the sidelines for too long as manager Frank tries to combat the club’s mounting injury list. The Dane is currently without midfielders James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Bergvall and Mohamed Kudus.

Spurs were boosted by the return of striker Dominic Solanke, however, who was an 83rd-minute substitute against Villa following a lengthy layoff with an ankle injury. Destiny Udogie, who has also been battling a hamstring problem of late, was named on the bench against Villa.

In the build up to the Villa clash, Spurs boss Frank issued an update on Bergvall, Kudus and Kulusevski, saying: “Yeah, Lucas is being assessed today, we know more later today with him. Same with Rodri, Rodri's hamstring injury looks like a bigger one, unfortunately, we don't know the timeframe of that, we also will know later.

“Kudus is unfortunately a bigger one to the tendon in the quad, so that's one where we expect him back after the March international break.

“And then the latest on Dejan Kulusevski is that we know it's a complicated injury, if there's one person that can accelerate that, it is Dejan, he's a top pro and got a top mentality.

"The most important thing is to remove the pain in the knee. Got an injection to help that 10 days ago, we know in three to four weeks if it's settled, and when it's settled hopefully he'll be on the grass and from there we'll see what's happening.”

Tottenham vs Aston Villa kick-off time

Today's game between Tottenham and Aston Villa will kick off at 12:45 pm ET and 5:45 pm GMT.

Match context

With much-needed silverware on the line and little margin for error, this tie promises intensity, tactical intrigue and plenty of fireworks. For Tottenham, the FA Cup represents a crucial opportunity to rescue a season that has struggled to gain traction, with poor results putting Thomas Frank’s Job at risk.

Getty Images

Their inconsistency in the Premier League has left Spurs languishing in mid-table, and with pressure building, progress in the cup could provide both momentum and belief. The Lilywhites come into this tie struggling for form, with only one win in their last six matches in all competitions, and their latest defeat coming against Bournemouth midweek.

Their Premier League form has been patchy, with draws and defeats punctuating recent results, and scoring has been inconsistent in all competitions. The FA Cup remains Tottenham’s best realistic route to a trophy this season, given their league struggles, and they’ll be eager to stay alive in the competition.

Getty Images

Aston Villa travel to London in far healthier form. Unai Emery’s side have been consistent, organised and dangerous in transition, combining disciplined defensive structure with sharp attacking play. Their confidence in big matches has grown, particularly away from home, where they have shown an ability to frustrate opponents before striking decisively.

The Villans have been scoring goals regularly and showing good recent results in all competitions. Their last Premier League game finished in a thrilling 4-3 win over Leeds United, where their comeback powers were strongly tested. Villa will also draw belief from recent FA Cup success against Spurs, having eliminated them last season. That result underlined Villa’s growing maturity under Emery and their comfort in high-pressure knockout ties.

Team news & squads

Frank has confirmed that Tottenham will be without winger Mohammed Kudus until after the March international break. Rodrigo Bentancur is also facing a significant spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring injury in the Bournemouth defeat. Lucas Bergvall will also be assessed after coming off against The Cherries with what appeared to be a muscle injury. The trio of Dominic Solanke, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski remains sidelined.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, remain without the influential Amadou Onana, who has a hamstring injury. There are concerns over Emi Martinez after the goalkeeper withdrew at half-time of Wednesday's 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace. Tyrone Mings (hamstring) is edging towards a return, but is not expected to start in north London while Evann Guessand remains absent due to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Form

Head-to-Head Record

This is a regular FA Cup fixture with Villa and Spurs meeting a number of times over the years. Historically, Villa have had mixed success in FA Cup ties against Spurs, with Spurs often winning on the road, though the recent historical record is competitive. Last season, Villa beat Spurs 2–1 in an FA Cup tie at Villa Park, progressing to the fifth round — a result that piled pressure on Tottenham’s management at the time.

Bournemouth vs Tottenham kick-off time

Today's game between Bournemouth and Tottenham will kick off on 7 Jan 2026 at 14:30 EST and 19:30 GMT.

Match context

The Cherries lost a five-goal thriller last time out at home against league leaders Arsenal. Their 20 league matches this season have now produced a total of 69 goals, making them the most entertaining side in the division on that metric. Ander Iraola's men, however, are winless in 11 EPL matches.

Tottenham will be glad to be back on the road after another disappointing home result, a 1-1 draw against Sunderland. The contrast in their home and away form couldn't be more stark, with Thomas Frank's men picking up 18 of their 27 points this season on their travels.

Bournemouth are unbeaten in the last three H2Hs (W2, D1), which includes this season’s reverse fixture in August. A win on Wednesday would complete a first-ever league double over Spurs.

Latest injury news from both camps

Cherries attacker Justin Kluivert faces a long spell out after knee surgery. Tyler Adams (knee), Ben Gannon-Doak (thigh), Ryan Christie (knee), Matai Akinmboni (muscle) and Will Dennis (ankle) are all out. Antoine Semenyo, reportedly on the brink of a move away, could make his final home appearance.

Exciting Ghanaian attacker Mohammed Kudus is one of six absentees for Spurs alongside AFCON duo Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison and Dominic Solanke. On the plus side for Thomas Frank, Destiny Udogie is nearing a return, and he'll have Xavi Simons back after a three-match suspension.
