Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

James Maddison's goal after just 13 minutes was enough to seal all three points for the home side when he reacted quickest to Andre Onana palmed Lucas Bergvall's effort directly into his path.

United had their fair share of chances to draw level either side of half-time, with the best of their chances falling to Alejandro Garnacho and Joshua Zirkzee.

As a result of suffering a third defeat of the season to Spurs, United have now lost three of their last four Premier League matches. They have also fallen to 15th in the table, being overtaken by the Londoners in the process.

United are next in Premier League action on Saturday, travelling to Goodison Park to face Everton, who climbed above them in the table yesterday.

Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday.

James Maddison tapped in from close range to hand the home side an early lead before Alejandro Garnacho blazed over the crossbar to spurn United’s best chance of the first half.

Joshua Zirkzee had the best chance of the second half but he failed to hit the target with a free header from eight yards out as United fell to their third defeat to Spurs this season.

Here are how the players rated at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium:

Andre Onana

A little unfortunate his save from Lucas Bergvall's shot was converted by Maddison on the rebound. Made some decent stops. 6

Noussair Mazraoui

Back in the back three to offset the absence of Leny Yoro and played a fine cross for Joshua Zirkzee to head wide in the second half. 6

Harry Maguire

Played with gusto and had little hassle from Mathys Tel. Possibly should have gone further up top sooner as United chased the game. 6

Matthijs de Ligt

For a ball-playing defender who was teammates with Tel, De Ligt was not particularly authoritative. 5

Diogo Dalot

Ruben Amorim ordered him to get tighter to Son Heung-min and seconds later Dalot was still too narrow as Son's volley led to Maddison's goal. 5

Casemiro

His first start of the year and he showed why. Constantly off the pace, booked and only lasted so long because there was not a credible alternative on the bench. 4

Bruno Fernandes

Played in Garnacho for United's best chance of the first half. Proactive enough and knitted together United's attacks. 6

Patrick Dorgu

Switched to the left wing and hit a shot well over. Started by virtue of the decimating injury crisis. Had some crossing opportunities but did not service the forwards well enough. 5

Joshua Zirkzee

Tidy and slick on the ball, which helped United retain it in the final third. His approach play was excellent at times but he was never a goal threat. 6

Alejandro Garnacho

Unacceptably skied a one-on-one when played in by Fernandes. More involved in the second half and drew a good stop from Guglielmo Vicario. 6

Rasmus Hojlund

Some bright moments at 0-0 but then quickly regressed and was often flagged offside. An improvement on recent performances but still not good enough. 5

Subs

Chido Obi

Made his debut in added time. N/A

Manager

Forced into selections with 12 senior players either injured or unwell. Refusal to make a change until late was understandable and United's performance level was an improvement on recent games. 6

Why Ineos are sponsoring Tottenham Hotspur despite owning Manchester United

Description

Manchester United fans watching the Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur will perhaps be surprised to see Ineos' name plastered inside the North London club's stadium.

Ineos founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe completed a minority purchase of United last year and has since been in charge of the football operations at Old Trafford. But despite their clear association with the Reds, they remain a key sponsor for Spurs in the form of their 4X4 offshoot Grenadier.

The partnership began in 2020, shortly after their arrival at their new stadium. Notably, the Ineos logo can be seen plastered on the seats in both dugouts and features on the electronic advertising hoardings.

Spurs players have conducted advertising content with Ineos for the Grenadier in the past. On Ineos' website, Ben Davies, Dominic Solanke, Guglielmo Vicario, Timo Werner, Archie Gray and Yves Bissouma have all filmed content driving the car.

On the Ineos Grenadier website, Tottenham's chief commercial officer Todd Kline heralded the partnership with Ratcliffe's business. He said: "Our partnership with Ineos Grenadier represents the coming together of an innovative British brand with an iconic London Football Club – both of whom are committed to pushing boundaries and daring to do things differently, while staying true to authentic values and traditions.

"We should like to thank the team at Ineos Automotive for their vision and commitment to the future success of this partnership." When the agreement to purchase United was completed, the question was asked whether Ineos would be looking to end their deal with Spurs, to which it was understood that they would not.

Currently, Ineos do not sponsor inside Old Trafford despite their connections with the club.

Who is Jack Moorhouse? Manchester United teenager in Ruben Amorim squad vs Tottenham Hotspur

Manchester United youngster Jack Moorhouse has been named in the matchday squad for Sunday afternoon's Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

United head coach Ruben Amorim has included Moorhouse on the substitutes bench for the fixture on Sunday afternoon. The 19-year-old has been included in the first-team squad at United for the first time this season after impressing Amorim during training.

Moorhouse's selection comes amid recent injury concerns within the United squad. In terms of midfielders, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, Toby Collyer and Mason Mount are all unavailable, while Amad Diallo has now been added to the injury list.

The ongoing match could hand Moorhouse an opportunity to star on the first-team stage for the first time in his young career. But what more do we know about the potential United debutant?

Moorhouse, 19, and plays in an advanced midfield role for United's Under-21s - and is also capable of performing on the left wing. This season, he has three goals in seven Premier League 2 appearances and has been tipped for some time to make the jump up to the first-team in the near future.

The teenager made his debut for United for their Under-18s team when he was just 15 years old in November 2021. Just two weeks later, he scored his first goal for the club, in a win against Burnley in the Under-18s Premier League.

It was this season that Moorhouse first made the jump from the Under-18s up to the Under-21s. He goes into the game in good form, having scored his third goal of the season for Travis Binnion's group in a 2-0 win against their Tottenham counterparts just last week.

Manchester United confirmed squad members vs Tottenham as club forced to change travel plans

Manchester United are having to travel to London by coach for their Premier League fixture against Tottenham after their train was cancelled on Saturday afternoon.

A signal failure on the West Coast mainline saw the cancellations of a number of services on Saturday afternoon and United will instead have to make a four-hour journey by road.

United players had parked up at Manchester Airport in anticipation of arriving home by air after Sunday's game but the club have had to hastily arrange an alternative mode of transport.

The club's superior coaches are already in London to ferry the squad to and from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tomorrow, so United had to board an inferior coach on Saturday.

United had contingencies in place amid the unreliable rail services between Manchester and London Euston. United had to return from their last London game at Fulham three weeks ago by coach after their flight on Sunday evening was cancelled.

Strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have travelled after head coach Ruben Amorim suggested academy centre forward Chido Obi could be promoted to the matchday squad.

An injury crisis is mounting at United, with Amad, Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Toby Collyer all reputedly out of the Tottenham match. Collyer is unwell.

A second coach left from Carrington that is understood to have ferried academy players who have been added to the matchday squad.

Amorim revealed United had doubts over three unnamed players who were injured or unwell. "Was a good week until two days ago," Amorim said on Friday. "We had some problems also. So we don’t have players back, maybe we have one or two issues but we are waiting.

"We have one player also who is sick so we will see the team at the weekend. But was good to work with the team, to feel the players and to try to improve our performance.

"I don't want to say names (which could be promoted from the academy) because we have to be careful with that. They are working with us.

"We had some problems this week, we called some young players to be in our training so we will have the data and evaluation and he (Obi) is one of them."

Players notice Amorim is closest to two squad members

Ruben Amorim is maintaining a professional distance from the United players three months into the role as head coach.

Dressing room sources say Amorim is not as close with most of the players as predecessor Erik ten Hag was, while United players also appreciated the man-management of Ruud van Nistelrooy during his two-week caretaker stint in November.

Players have noticed that Amorim is naturally closest with compatriots Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot but, with another squad upheaval planned for the summer, the Portuguese is not getting attached to the majority of squad members.

Despite Ten Hag's gruff nature and public fallouts with star players, he had loyal bonds with a number of players he bought having worked with them at Ajax. He was also popular with academy graduates Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, who came to prominence under Ten Hag and scored in last season's FA Cup final triumph against Manchester City.

A senior United player described Van Nistelrooy's squad management as "excellent" when he took charge for four matches before Amorim arrived on November 11. Casemiro particularly appreciated Van Nistelrooy as they conversed in fluent Spanish.

Fan protest planned for Tottenham vs Man United Premier League clash

Tottenham Hotspur supporters will be protesting against their ownership on Sunday when they take on Manchester United in North London.

Spurs fans have grown increasingly angry with chairman Daniel Levy and the running of their club. Tottenham currently sit two points and a place behind United in the Premier League table and were also knocked out of the FA Cup at the weekend.

Now fan group 'Change for Tottenham' is calling on Spurs supporters to join them in a protest this weekend to attempt to force change in the boardroom. In a tweet entitled: 'Time for change. Time to stand up. Time to join us in the protest,' details of their actions this weekend.

The afternoon will start with a peaceful march to the stadium before supporters congregate in the concourse pre-match to protest against Levy. Fans are then asked to clap the players off, no matter the result, before conducting a sit-in protest at full-time.

United are no stranger to protests against their owners having conducted their own sit-ins and marches against the Glazers in the past. Mass protests have been rarer since Ineos founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired a minority stake in the club.

However, Ratcliffe has proven himself to be unpopular in recent months due to his cost-cutting measures and decision to dispose of the concession price bracket for remaining tickets this season. This week, the British billionaire caused more controversy after it was announced that another 100 jobs will be axed at Old Trafford.

This follows 250 redundancies last autumn at United. Kick off between United and Spurs is at 4:30pm on Sunday with the march against Levy starting at 3pm on the crossroads of Lordship Lane and High Road.

Manchester United defender sends one-word injury message ahead of Tottenham

Description

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has responded to his return from injury with a simple message on social media.

The 30-year-old had missed eight games in all competitions after suffering an injury during the Carabao Cup quarter-final loss against Tottenham back in December. The problem forced him to withdraw at half-time.

Lindelof has, however, since returned to training and has been named on the bench for the games against FCSB in the Europa League, Fulham and Crystal Palace in the Premier League and Leicester City in the FA Cup. He was, however, an unused substitute for all four games.

Lindelof and his teammates are now preparing for the Premier League clash against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon. United travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the 4.30pm kick-off with both teams having disappointing seasons so far.

United currently sit in 13th place, with Tottenham one position and two points behind in 14th. Ahead of the match, Lindelof has posted pictures of him in training with United, along with a caption simply reading: “Back.”

The Sweden international’s return from injury comes at a good time for United, with the club confirming last week that fellow centre-back Lisandro Martinez will miss the rest of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in his knee.

Ruben Amorim will therefore now have Lindelof to turn to should he need more defensive options between now and the end of the campaign.
