Maguire, Sesko, Mainoo, Casemiro - Man United injury news after Tottenham draw

Ruben Amorim saw potentially three injury blows suffered during the dramatic draw against Tottenham in the Premier League

Manchester United snatched a point from their Premier League clash against Tottenham even with ten players on the pitch after suffering two injury blows. Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring in the first half, but goals from Mathys Tel and Richarlison looked to have handed Spurs the points only for Matthijs de Ligt to equalise in the game's dying embers.

Ruben Amorim's side headed into the game unbeaten in four matches with consistency built from minimal changes to his starting XI. That changed slightly on Saturday with Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire and Patrick Dorgu coming in for Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro and Benjamin Sesko.

There was also a change on the bench with a minor issue seeing Kobbie Mainoo miss out. His absence saw United's injury list double with Lisandro Martinez the only absentee as he recovers from a serious knee injury.

In the space of 17 minutes at Spurs, that increased to four potential injury problems with Maguire appearing to injure his hamstring and Sesko trudging off to leave United with a man disadvantage as Amorim had made all his substitutions.

With that being said, MEN Sport has taken a look at the latest United injury updates and their potential return dates with the November international break on the horizon.

Harry Maguire

Maguire was captured on camera clutching his hamstring after a dual with Richarlison. He attempted to continue but clearly was in pain which saw him replaced by Yoro after 72 minutes.

Benjamin Sesko

Just over half-an-hour on from being introduced by Amorim, Sesko picked up an injury which saw him head straight down the tunnel. He seemed to suffer the problem when stretching to shoot as he swiftly sat down on the turf after that attempt before receiving treatment and subsequently limping off.

"We have to see but I think he has a problem," Amorim told TNT Sports after the game.

Casemiro

Amorim appeared to suggest that Casemiro could also not continue when explaining how injuries helped Tottenham start a comeback.

"With everything that happened, Harry has to come out, Casemiro has to come out and Ben," he said on TNT Sports.

Kobbie Mainoo

After not being spotted in Stockport for United's train down to London on Friday, Mainoo was unsurprisingly missing from the matchday squad. The Athletic later noted that a minor injury would see him miss the Tottenham match.

Lisandro Martinez

Having returned to team training at Carrington, Martinez is getting closer to a return from the serious knee injury suffered back in February.

"He wants to go to this one," the United head coach said of Martinez last week before the Forest match. "He is not going to, he is going to take time."

Why Tottenham players were 'mad' after Manchester United draw as dressing room chat revealed - Manchester Evening News
Description

Man United rescued a point against Tottenham Hotspur thanks to Matthijs de Ligt's late header.

Mathys Tel has admitted the Tottenham players were mad they didn't hold on to beat Manchester United.

United led at the break after an even first half. Amad's delicate cross picked out Bryan Mbeumo in the middle to open the scoring.

Spurs equalised through Tel on 84 minutes as his shot deflected beyond Senne Lammens. When Richarlison flicked home in added time it looked like United's unbeaten run was coming to an end.

However, Matthijs de Ligt's late header rescued a point for the away side. Speaking after the game to TNT Sports, Tel admitted there was frustration in the Spurs camp.

"The feeling is 50-50," he admitted. "We concede one goal, we were losing. Second half our reaction was good, we changed the game.

"But we're also mad because we had to win today. But this is football, we have to keep going and keep working."

When asked what Thomas Frank said to his side at half time, Tel said: "We were told to just bring new energy, we needed energy to change the game and that's what we did. We showed great mentality, we deserved to win this game."

United will continue to push for a Champions League qualification place after the November international break. The draw extends United's unbeaten run, which stretches to five games after their second straight draw.

When the international break is over United will host Everton at Old Trafford on Monday, November 24 before travelling to Crystal Palace the following Sunday.

Man United next five Premier League games compared to top four rivals after Spurs drama - Manchester Evening News
Description

How the upcoming Premier League schedule compares following United's 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United were involved in late drama in the Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

United went into the game level on points with their rivals with only goal difference separating the two sides. Ruben Amorim's side are unbeaten in their last four, while Spurs fell to a 1-0 defeat against rivals Chelsea in their last outing.

October Premier League player of the month, Bryan Mbeumo, gave United the lead in the 32nd minute when he headed in Amad's cross.

Senne Lammens stood up to the Tottenham pressure in the second half to make two saves to maintain United's lead. Brennan Johnson did find the back of the net, but celebrations were cut short by the assistant referee's flag.

United's resistance was broken with seven minutes of normal time left when Mathys Tel turned and put the ball in the back of the net.

United were hit with a double blow in the second half with both Harry Maguire and Benjamin Sesko forced off with injuries. It meant United had to see the game out with 10 men.

They couldn't hold on with Spurs taking the lead through Richarlison when he turned in Wilson Odobert's shot. in stoppage time. But the drama wasn't over there with Matthijs de Ligt heading in from a corner late in stoppage time to make it 2-2.

The draw means that the Premier League table stays as close as ever, with Spurs in third and United in seventh - though both teams are level on points.

Here's a look at the fixtures on the horizon for those teams competing in the top eight positions of the Premier League table;

Arsenal - 1st (25 points)

Casting an eye over United's run of five games, it doesn't look too bad on paper. Amorim's side will be expected to beat both West Ham and Wolves with the two sides struggling at the wrong end of the table. The other three games could be more unpredictable; being at home against Everton makes it easier than a trip to the new Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Should Bournemouth and Palace keep up their early-season form, then they will likely be the toughest tests of the next five fixtures. The race for the Champions League remains tight with Palace, Brighton and Aston Villa all within three points of the top-four positions ahead of the rest of the weekend's fixtures.

Chelsea - 8th (17 points)

Wolves (H) - Sat 8 Nov (8pm)

Manchester United player ratings vs Tottenham with one 2/10 as Bryan Mbeumo good again - Manchester Evening News
Description

Man Utd drew 2-2 with Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday and here are how the players rated in the capital.

Manchester United drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday.

Bryan Mbeumo continued his hot streak by opening the scoring in the 32nd minute. Amad was responsible for the brilliant assist and United saw their one-goal advantage into the interval.

Tottenham pushed for an equaliser at the beginning of the second half. They have struggled at home this season, but they finally found a breakthrough thanks to Mathys Tel. Richarlison thought he had secured the win in stoppage time but Matthijs de Ligt struck in the 96th minute to grab a point for United.

Here are how United's players rated in London:

Senne Lammens

Wasn't switched on at the start of the game but focused his mind in the first half and started the second half by making two superb saves. Couldn't stop either of Tottenham's goals. 6

Harry Maguire

Looked pumped from the first whistle, running over to the away section and applauding. He performed well in the centre of the back three and made important interceptions. 5

Matthijs de Ligt

Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has recalled Matthijs de Ligt to the national side for the upcoming international break. De Ligt deserved that recall, but was at fault for the equaliser. Then redeemed himself with a heroic header. 6

Luke Shaw

Stepped into the midfield at times which meant the shape sometimes looked like a back four. Shaw played ok, but was on the pitch for the late collapse. 5

Noussair Mazraoui

Pressed aggressively which earned him applause from Amorim. It didn't feel fair to bring him off in the 59th minute when Patrick Dorgu seemed the logical change. 6

Casemiro

Started the game by playing a few loose passes and couldn't help United see out the victory. 5

Bruno Fernandes

Was not at his best in the centre of the pitch. Looked sluggish and wasn't combative enough against Spurs' midfielders. Played the corner into the box for De Ligt's goal. 5

Patrick Dorgu

Struggled in moments during the first half. He replaced Diogo Dalot in the starting team, but still looks raw and unconvincing. His final ball around the box must improve. 4

Bryan Mbeumo

Unplayable at times. Finished brilliantly to open the scoring and now has four goals in his last five games. 8

Amad

Got in the way of Matheus Cunha which denied his teammate a chance on goal, but played a clever cross into the box for Mbeumo's goal. Later moved to right wing-back. 6

Matheus Cunha

Was the same as Fernandes - not at his best against Tottenham. Was booked at the start of the second half for kicking the ball away. 5

Subs

Benjamin Sesko

A couple of half chances not taken. 4

Manuel Ugarte

Allowed Pape Sarr to run past him for Tottenham's goal. Weak. 2

Mason Mount

Tried his best. 6

Leny Yoro

Did ok after slotting in. 5

Diogo Dalot

His first touch was heavy. 4

Why Jack Fletcher is in Man United squad vs Tottenham as Ruben Amorim explains shock call

Why Jack Fletcher is in Man United squad vs Tottenham as Ruben Amorim explains shock call - Manchester Evening News
Description

Youngster Jack Fletcher has been named in the Manchester United squad for their clash with Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.

Ruben Amorim believes Jack Fletcher is ready to make the step up to the first team having been named in the Manchester United squad against Tottenham.

Kobbie Mainoo picked up a knock in the build-up to the clash and did not travel with his teammates to the capital on Friday night.

Fletcher has been included in the United squad as a result of Mainoo's absence. Amorim was asked by TNT Sports ahead of the game how important it is for the club to continue their proud record of naming an academy graduate in every matchday squad for the past 88 years.

"It is really important," Amorim said. "If we are going to take some corners to try and succeed right away it is the wrong thing. There are some special things in our club that we need to be bulletproof.

"It's the way we behave, the way we play, the small things, we are not going to stop with the academy players. It doesn't matter the results, it doesn't matter anything else, we need to continue with the small details that are the foundations of our club.

"We have that record, we are not going to break that record. Jack is ready to help us so we put two things together. We show that our academy is the future, that our players from the academy need to be ready because we are going to need them at some point. Jack is ready."

Victory over Spurs this afternoon would lift United up to second place in the Premier League table.

Amorim has rung the changes for the game, with Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire and Patrick Dorgu coming into the side. Diogo Dalot, Benjamin Sesko and Leny Yoro have dropped to the bench.

Why Kobbie Mainoo is not in Manchester United squad vs Tottenham - Manchester Evening News
Description

Man Utd youngster Kobbie Mainoo did not travel with the squad to face Tottenham this weekend.

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is absent against Tottenham due to a knock.

The Manchester Evening News revealed on Friday that Mainoo had not travelled with the squad.

Ruben Amorim did not clarify the team news at his pre-match press conference, but Mainoo has picked up a knock which has ruled him out of the visit to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Jack Fletcher has been drafted into the squad to replace Mainoo. Fletcher’s inclusion has continued United's 88-year record of featuring an academy graduate in every matchday squad.

United have included an academy graduate in their squad for 4,332 successive games.

"I don't want to be the guy that broke that record," Amorim said in September about not breaking the record. "If you see the past of Manchester United, it's built on kids that grew up here and stayed here for a long time. I think that should be our goal in the future. So I will try to maintain that."

Mainoo has not started in the Premier League this season. The midfielder's only start of the campaign came against Grimsby Town at Blundell Park in the Carabao Cup second round.

The 20-year-old requested to leave on loan in the summer transfer window for the sake of regular minutes, but Amorim blocked the request and explained that Mainoo was competing with Bruno Fernandes.

Mainoo has made seven appearances from the bench in the league this season.

Is Tottenham vs Man United on TV? Live stream, channel and kick-off details

Manchester United travel to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon as the two sides meet for the first time since the Europa League final last season

Tottenham Hotspur are set to welcome Manchester United in the early kick-off on Saturday afternoon, as the two sides who battled it out in last season's Europa League final meet once again.

The Red Devils have been showing signs of a resurgence lately, with three victories and a draw in their most recent four league matches. Ruben Amorim's side have had some notable moments, including a 2-1 triumph over Liverpool at Anfield and a 4-2 home win against Brighton.

United will be keen to make amends after their 1-0 defeat in their previous encounter with Spurs in the Europa League final, which resulted in them missing out on European football this season. On the other hand, the Lilywhites come into the game off the back of their 4-0 thrashing of FC Copenhagen in the Champions League midweek, which has propelled them to seventh place in the European table.

Their latest Premier League result was a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea, but with both teams level on 17 points in the domestic league, a win would be invaluable for either side.

Here, Manchester Evening News provides all the information you need to watch the match and who might be featuring for both teams on Saturday.

When does Tottenham vs Manchester United start?

The match between Tottenham and Manchester United is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, kicking off at 12:30pm. The game will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Where can I watch Tottenham vs Manchester United?

UK supporters can catch the live action on TNT Sports 1 and TNT Sports Ultimate, with coverage starting from 11am. The match can also be streamed live on discovery+.

Team news

United are nearing a return to full strength, with Harry Maguire back on the bench against Nottingham Forest. Only Lisandro Martinez, who is making good progress following a knee operation, has been confirmed as out for this fixture.

On the other hand, Spurs have a growing injury list. Lucas Bergvall was taken off early in their 1-0 defeat to Chelsea due to concussion and his availability for the early kick-off remains uncertain.

Thomas Frank has nine other players confirmed as unavailable for the match, including: James Maddison (ACL), Dejan Kulusevski (knee), Dominic Solanke (ankle), Ben Davies (hamstring), Radu Dragusin (ACL), Yves Bissouma (ankle), Archie Gray (calf) and Kota Takai (quad).

Description

Manchester United are looking to stretch their unbeaten run to five matches when they face Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this lunchtime.

United drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest last weekend. Amad's wonderful volley rescued a point for the Reds despite leading at the break.

As for Spurs, they bounced back from a 1-0 defeat at Chelsea last Saturday by thrashing FC Copenhagen in the Champions League. Both teams are level on points heading into the fixture.

Whoever is victorious will temporarily move up to second in the Premier League table. This will be the first time United have faced Tottenham since losing to them in the Europa League final in May.

United will be out to prove how far they have come since that disappointing night in Bilbao as they look to continue the momentum they've built in recent weeks.

Description

Manchester United visit Tottenham Hotspur this weekend looking to move into the Champions League places before the international break.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim takes his side to Tottenham Hotspur this weekend looking to make it five matches unbeaten in the Premier League.

Despite the recent run of good form, Amorim has a headache at left wing-back. Diogo Dalot has been preferred in that position but has struggled, particularly against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Patrick Dorgu is the obvious replacement but Amorim seems unsure about his January signing at present. He was only given 22 minutes at the City Ground. Dalot will likely get the nod on Saturday.

Harry Maguire may struggle to get back into the team. The last time he played he scored the winner as United beat Liverpool at Anfield, but United's good form means Amorim may stick with the same back three. Maguire is likely to settle for a spot on the bench.

Further forward, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes will continue next to each other in the centre. The duo have built a strong partnership in the centre and that won't be broken in a hurry.

Another strong relationship blossoming is between Amad and Bryan Mbeumo. Their link-up play has been one of the main positives in recent weeks. Amad's difficulties defensively will be of some concern, especially against Spurs, but what he offers going forward more than makes up for that.

Amorim named his first unchanged line-up against Forest last weekend and he may well do so again at Tottenham.

United predicted XI: Lammens; Yoro, De Ligt, Shaw; Amad, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dalot; Mbeumo, Cunha; Sesko

Kobbie Mainoo, Lisandro Martinez - Man United injury news and return dates before Tottenham

Manchester United take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League for the first time since last season's Europa League final, which Spurs won in Bilbao thanks to a Brennan Johnson goal.

Ruben Amorim has almost a fully fit Manchester United squad to select from when they play Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday lunchtime. United are away from Old Trafford for a second straight weekend after also travelling to Nottingham Forest last weekend.

That 2-2 draw ended their three-match winning streak, but a late Amad equaliser extended their unbeaten run to four games. Both teams are level on points coming into the match, with only Spurs' superior goal difference seeing them sit two places above United.

Another win for Amorim and Co. could move them up as high as second with the chances of that increasing after the United boss reported no fresh injuries. "No, there’s no change [to what we are doing about injuries]," he told reporters at a Friday press conference.

"It’s one game every week and then a little bit of luck, because sometimes you have problems with players with knocks, it’s not something that is soft tissues," he said.

"So you never know what is going to happen in the next training. If you play with intensity in training, something can happen, but I think the big reason… of course, we try to do everything well, the big reason is [we have only] one game every week.

"You can give one extra day to the players that you know could struggle in the next training. I think that is the biggest reason." Here, MEN sport rounds up the latest updates on United injuries.

Lisandro Martinez

The only known injury is to Lisandro Martinez, who continues to recover from a knee surgery. However, he returned to training late last month for the first time since being sidelined in early February.

Martinez was not, though, spotted with the team at Stockport railway station on Friday afternoon before they boarded a train to London. Amorim has made it clear that they will not rush the defender back.

"He wants to go to this one," the United head coach said of Martinez last week before the Forest match. "he is not going to, he is going to take time."

Kobbie Mainoo

The other player not spotted in Stockport on Friday afternoon was Kobbie Mainoo, with Jack Fletcher a standout inclusion for the trip. According to The Athletic, the former England international, who was also surprisingly not named in their squad on Friday morning, has a minor injury and will miss the Tottenham match.

Mainoo has been in every United matchday squad since returning from injury in April and has featured in all but one of their last nine matches, albeit as a substitute. However, he was unused against Forest at the City Ground, with Noussair Mazraoui and Patrick Dorgu the only two players Amorim brought on.
