Tottenham Hotspur are now keen to beat rivals Chelsea to the signing of a new attacker, according to a fresh report, as Ange Postecolgou looks to add more firepower to his side in the January transfer window.

Tottenham transfer news

Spurs' Premier League campaign has not gone to plan so far, with the Lilywhites having lost 10 of their 20 games and currently languishing in 12th place.

Their squad has been torn apart by injuries and suspension, with Postecoglou having to cobble together makeshift XIs thanks to a plethora of injuries in defence that has seen Destiny Udogie, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Ben Davies, Radu Dragusin and goalkeeper Gugliemo Vicario all miss chunks of the season.

Spurs have already been busy in the days since the January transfer window opened, signing Antonin Kinsky in a deal worth £12.5m, with the Czech goalkeeper making his debut in the Carabao Cup first-leg win over Liverpool.

However, there are plenty of other areas of the squad that still need strengthening in the remainder of the winter transfer window. Last week, Postecoglou insisted that Spurs were working 'really hard' to get more deals done.

“There's still everything to play for this year for us to make it a season where we can have success. But we need some help, the players need some help more importantly, and the club is working really hard to try make that happen."

One area that Spurs will need to add to is the heart of defence despite the form of Archie Gray, while they have also been linked with more energetic midfielders, with both Tijjani Reijnders and Davide Frattesi among those mooted with a north London switch.

Now, though, they have been linked with a relatively low-cost move for a new attacker, provided they can fight off Chelsea interest.

Tottenham target EFL striker

That comes as reports in Spain claim that Tottenham are showing a strong interest in West Brom forward Josh Maja as they look for cover for Dominic Solanke.

The Nigerian striker is enjoying an excellent campaign in the Championship and has found the net 12 times so far this season after a difficult 2023/24.

That has reportedly caught the eye of Premier League sides, with both Tottenham and Chelsea thought to be showing an interest in his services. For Spurs, his arrival would help take some of the burden of record-signing Dominic Solanke.

Though ostensibly this role is filled by Richarlison, the Brazilian has been unable to regularly stay fit in recent seasons, making just five Premier League appearances this campaign.

Maja has drawn high praise this season, with pundit Carlton Palmer labelling him "terrific" earlier in the campaign, and though he is 26 years old, he could prove a smart signing.

According to the report, both Spurs and Chelsea are showing "increasing interest" and chasing his signature, while West Brom are keen to keep hold of him. It is added that he is estimated to cost around £15m should he move this January.

For that money, he could prove a shrewd squad signing for Spurs.

Bid already made: Spurs in talks to sign "remarkable" £50m Werner upgrade

Tottenham Hotspur still have a number of weeks left to dip into the market before the January transfer window officially slams shut at the start of next month.

The less-than-convincing win over non-league outfit Tamworth in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday was a timely reminder that Ange Postecoglou's squad is still not up to scratch.

They needed an own goal and strikes from substitute Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson to beat the National League side in extra time, after failing to find the back of the net in regulation time.

The clash was a big opportunity for some of the fringe players within the squad to put their hand up and show Postecoglou that they are ready to fight for a first-team spot moving forward for the rest of the season.

Sergio Reguilon and Timo Werner were two players who were given a chance to showcase what they can do in a Spurs shirt, and they both failed to advance their cause for a starting berth in the Premier League.

The German forward, in particular, was disappointing and has endured a frustrating season since the club opted to extend his loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Timo Werner's form this season

The former Chelsea striker has been utilised as both a left-sided winger and as a central forward at times across all competitions by Postecoglou this season, and struggled in both roles.

His dull showing against Tamworth, missing two 'big chances', extended the attacker's run of games without a goal or an assist to ten matches in all competitions, which illustrates the lack of impact he has made at the top end of the pitch for Spurs.

Put simply, Werner has not offered enough in the final third to justify the club keeping him beyond the end of his current loan from RB Leipzig, which is due to end in the summer.

The German speedster scored two goals and provided three assists in 13 Premier League matches in the second half of last season at Spurs, which was a solid but unspectacular return in his first loan spell at the club.

Werner was then brought back for a second loan stint with Tottenham this term and his output has decreased, with zero goals in 17 league outings so far.

As you can see in the table above, the 28-year-old flop has offered very little in front of goal in the Premier League, with just three goal contributions in 17 matches.

The experienced forward has, simply, not done enough in the final third to warrant Spurs keeping hold of him on a permanent deal and that is why Daniel Levy must dip into the transfer market to find a suitable replacement for Postecoglou.

Tottenham competing to sign French star

According to GIVEMESPORT over the weekend, Spurs are still in the race to complete a deal for Paris Saint-Germain attacker Randal Kolo Muani in the January transfer window.

The report claims that Tottenham, Manchester United, and Juventus are all showing an interest in the France international, who is available to move on from the Ligue 1 champions.

It states that PSG are open to allowing him to move away on loan, amid their pursuit of Napoli superstar Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but will only do so if there is an obligation to make the deal permanent at the end of the loan, with a fee of £50m being demanded.

The outlet adds that Spurs have made an offer but are currently at a stalemate in negotiations as they are not prepared to include an obligation, over an option, to make the deal permanent at this moment in time.

Kolo Muani is happy to consider a move to link up with the Premier League side but until either Tottenham or PSG budge in their respective stances, there is nothing to consider.

Levy must, now be prepared to include an obligation to make the deal permanent for £50m in the summer because Spurs could finally move on from Werner by bringing the French star in as his replacement, for the next five months on loan and then permanently in the summer.

Why Spurs should sign Randal Kolo Muani

You may think of his huge miss in the 2022 World Cup final for France against Argentina or his return of just two goals in Ligue 1 when you think of Kolo Muani, but neither of those things are a fair reflection of what Spurs could reasonably expect from him.

The France international, firstly, is a versatile attacker who could offer Tottenham quality in a variety of positions, as he is capable of playing on the left, on the right, or through the middle, which means that the 26-year-old ace can cover the roles that Werner has been playing in.

As you can see in the video above, Kolo Muani has also previously showcased his quality at the top end of the pitch in a major European league in Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt.

He produced 26 goals and 17 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions for the German side before his move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2023, which was followed by a return of nine goals and six assists in 40 matches last season.

As you can see in the table above, the French dynamo provided regular quality as both a scorer and a creator during his last season with Frankfurt in the Bundesliga

Kolo Muani, who was described as "remarkable" by German legend Lothar Matthaus, could benefit from a return to regular game time, having started just 15 Ligue 1 matches since the start of last season, and that is what Spurs could offer.

If Postecoglou could get him back to the levels he displayed with Frankfurt then he would, quite simply, be a huge upgrade on Werner and allow Tottenham to move the German forward on, whilst also being worth the £50m outlay for his services in the summer.

He's better than Kolo Muani: Spurs join race to sign "unstoppable" PL star

If you could write a one week script detailing the trials and tribulations of Tottenham Hotspur it would go very much like this week.

A few days ago, Spurs were defeating Arne Slot's rampant Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-finals. So, the confidence should have been there after a rather sticky patch in the Premier League.

No better game than an FA Cup tie against non-league Tamworth then, surely? Think again.

Remarkably, the National League side held Ange Postecoglou's men, taking them all the way to extra time. To put it bluntly, the top-flight side were not good enough.

Tamworth went toe to toe with the Lilywhites and more than deserved the 0-0 scoreline at the end of the 90 minutes, even if things did go on to finish 2-0 after extra time.

After an embarrassing time of it on Sunday, it only highlights the need for new recruits in the January transfer window.

Tottenham's January transfer window plans

One of the names on the lips of supporters at the moment is PSG forward Randal Kolo Muani. There have been a number of reports suggesting that Spurs could sign the Frenchman on loan this summer and there has been a fresh update from the Daily Mail's Chris Wheeler.

He reported this weekend that 'Spurs and Juventus lead the way' for the 26-year-old this winter. That's because Manchester United's interest in the attacker has allegedly cooled.

Speaking of United, it's a Red Devil who Postecogou's side are also interested in with Wheeler revealing that there is interest in Marcus Rashford.

It's stated that Dortmund, Milan, Juve and Barcelona have the England international on their radar.

How Marcus Rashford compares to Randal Kolo Muani

It's thought that initially, both players would be available on loan deals. So, it becomes clear immediately who Spurs should look at pursuing more strongly this month.

While Kolo Muani has scored as many as 23 goals in the 2022/23 season for Eintracht Frankfurt, he's not exactly set the world alight at PSG, playing just ten times and scoring twice in Ligue 1 this term.

Crucially, he's not got experience of the Premier League yet which if you're bringing in someone for just a six-month loan spell, wouldn't be advantageous.

Rashford, on the other hand, would not need a huge period of adaptation, thus meaning he's likely the more sensible option if a deal can be done.

While the United forward has only found the net on seven occasions this term, that would make him Tottenham's joint-third top-scorer alongside club captain, Heung-min Son.

A look at the stats over the last two campaigns also tells us why Rashford - who was "unstoppable" in the words of Erik ten Hag on the way to 39 goal involvements in all competitions throughout 2022/23 - would be a better acquisition.

While Kolo Muani certainly looks like the more creative outlet here, Rashford has a regular habit of scoring goals in English football and certainly over the last 18 months or so, he's been a more progressive carrier of the ball and a more efficient carrier at that too.

A carry is considered progressive if the ball is moved towards the opponent's goal at least 10 yards from its starting point or is carried into the penalty area.

Of course, you can look at the England international's work rate as a cause for concern but if Postecoglou wants something short-term then the out-of-favour United man is probably the player to go for here.

Maddison upgrade: Spurs could land "world-class" January signing for £50m

Tottenham Hotspur announced the hiring of Ange Postecoglou just over a year and a half ago, and since then, a lot has changed.

The North Londoners have gone from playing mind-numbingly boring football to being one of the most entertaining teams in Europe and, perhaps just as significant, sold the legendary Harry Kane.

However, while there have been some notable exits since the Australian took charge, there have also been some big signings as well, such as Micky van de Ven, Dominic Solanke and James Maddison.

The latter of those three has endured a mixed time in the capital thus far, and while he's capable of producing some moments of magic, it might be worth looking for a rival, or even upgrade, and fortunately, the club have already been linked to just the player.

Maddison's Spurs career

Spurs signed Maddison from a recently relegated Leicester City in the summer of 2023 for about £40m, and while he was part of a team that went down, it certainly wasn't on him.

In that final campaign with the Foxes, he managed to rack up an impressive tally of ten goals and nine assists in 32 appearances, so his move to N17 was more than justified.

In fact, the Coventry-born maestro hit the ground running in North London and racked up three goals and five assists in his first ten league games for the team, playing a significant role in Postecoglou's sensational start to life in England.

However, in the 11th game against Chelsea, he picked up an injury that saw him sidelined until late January, and when he came back, he was significantly less effective.

For example, in his final 17 league appearances, the 28-year-old scored a single goal and provided just four assists, which also played a role in the team's slide down the table.

This season has been mixed for the Englishman, as while he has been sublime at moments and has a healthy tally of eight goals and five assists, he's found himself out of the team on more than a handful of occasions, suggesting that his place in the squad is less than assured.

So, if the former Leicester City star cannot be relied upon to regularly produce and has found himself out of the starting lineup several times already this season, it might make sense for Spurs to look for an upgrade in the market and the good news on that front, is that they have already been linked with one in the last month or so.

The Serie A star who could replace Maddison

To get straight to the point, the player in question is AC Milan star Tijjani Reijnders, who was linked with a potential £50m move to Spurs last month, and while that sounds like a lot of money, it would be money well spent.

For example, despite playing slightly deeper than Maddison at the moment, the Dutch international's output has been almost as good this season.

He has scored nine goals and provided three assists in 25 games, and were he moved slightly further up the pitch, we wouldn't be surprised to see those numbers get even better.

However, to understand why analyst Ben Mattinson described the 26-year-old as one of the "top five midfielders this season", we need to look at his underlying numbers.

According to FBref, which compares players across Europe's top five leagues, the Champions League and Europa League, the Milan star sits in the top 1% of midfielders for carries into the final third and passes blocked, the top 3% for successful take-ons, the top 4% for non-penalty goals and shots on target, the top 5% for carries into the penalty area and more, all per 90.

Furthermore, it's not just at the club level that the "world-class" midfielder, dubbed by commentator Matteo Bonetti, is thriving, as he's now won 20 caps for the Netherlands and made it to the semi-finals of the European Championships before going out at the hands of England.

Ultimately, Maddison is an incredibly talented footballer, but he tailed off towards the end of last season, and this year, he seems unable to hold down a place in the team.

Therefore, it makes sense to sign an upgrade this year, and while he will cost a pretty penny, Reijnders seems like a brilliant option.

Imagine him & Bergvall: Spurs targeting £25.5m dream Bissouma upgrade

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou is not short of options in midfield. Despite injuries having a major impact on his squad this term, he still has a plethora of options in the middle of the park.

The more attacking of those players include young Lucas Bergvall, who has made an excellent impression of late. James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevkis bring experience in attacking midfield for Postecoglou.

Slightly deeper in midfield, the Australian can pick from the likes of Pape Matar Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma. Youngster Archie Gray is very versatile and can play at right-back but is a midfielder by trade.

With all this considered, it is an exciting prospect for Lilywhites fans that the club are eying up another midfield addition.

Spurs target new midfielder

The player in question here is American defensive midfielder Johnny Cardoso. The Real Betis star has really impressed for the Spanish club this season, and could now make a move in the January transfer window.

According to an exclusive report from GiveMeSport, the North London side ‘could conduct a move’ for the American star this winter. They are believed to have ‘serious interest’ in signing him and there is thought to be a ‘big chance’ he leaves La Liga in this window.

There are believed to be other sides from both La Liga and the Premier League interested in signing Cardoso. However, Spurs have the upper hand in any potential deal. When loaning out Giovani Lo Celso to the Spanish club this season, the Lilywhites agreed a clause for a £25.5m deal for Cardoso, which they can trigger if they wish to sign him.

Why Cardoso could be a good signing

The 23-year-old American star has been superb in midfield for Betis this season. He has played 20 times across all competitions, sitting at the base of their midfield as a metronome, keeping things ticking over and shielding the defence.

The midfielder, who was born in Denville, New Jersey, was described as a “composed deep-lying playmaker” by football analyst Ben Mattinson.

He certainly likes to pull the strings from a deeper position, with an assist against Celta Vigo a prime example of that.

Not only would the 23-year-old add to the excellent depth in midfield, but he could be a big upgrade on Bissouma.

There has been a fair bit of criticism for the Malian midfielder this term, who has played 24 times in all competitions. Earlier in the season, Stephen Warnock said he thought Bissouma “didn’t have the desire” to run in midfield.

If there is one thing that Cardoso could bring to the Spurs midfield that Bissouma doesn’t, it is a high volume of defensive actions. This is reflected in the stats on FBref, and there is a clear gap in the number of defensive actions between the pair.

This season in La Liga, the Betis star averages 6.39 ball recoveries and 4.82 tackles and interceptions per game. Comparatively, Bissouma averages 5.15 ball recoveries and 4.27 tackles and interceptions each game.

A pass is considered progressive if the distance between the starting point and the next touch is at least 10 meters closer to the opponent's goal or any completed pass into the penalty area.

On the ball, Cardoso is still a fantastic player from deep, averaging 3.61 progressive passes, although that is less than Bissouma’s 6.21 progressive passes per 90 minutes. That is perhaps because he plays for a team with less average possession than Spurs, as per FBref.

Not only would Cardoso be an upgrade on Bissouma, but he could be the perfect long-term partner for Bergvall. The Swede has been making waves recently and has played 22 times this season. He scored his first goal for the Lilywhites against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

With Cardoso’s defensive ability and progressive nature, he is the perfect foil for someone like Bergvall who can get forward and impact the final third without having to worry about leaving the defence open.

For just £25.5m, Cardoso could be a great addition for Spurs. Not only would he upgrade their midfield, but also be a long-term partner for Bergvall who could get the best out of the youngster.

£27m player ready to join Tottenham if clubs can agree January deal

Tottenham Hotspur may have been handed a significant boost in their pursuit of a "very interesting" target as manager Ange Postecoglou looks to add multiple new additions to his Spurs squad before deadline day.

Tottenham chase second January deal after Antonin Kinsky

New goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky proved himself a very astute £12.5 million signing from Slavia Prague, enjoying a debut to remember by shutting out Premier League title favourites Liverpool in their 1-0 Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg win over the Reds on Wednesday night.

The Czech put in an assured and confident display between the sticks, making six saves, with four of them coming from shots inside the box (Squawka), and Postecoglou has confirmed he'll make his first FA Cup appearance for Spurs against Tamworth on Sunday.

It would seem that technical director Johan Lange and the Lilywhites' data-driven recruitment model got it seriously spot-on with their swoop for Kinsky, with the 21-year-old having barely entered his infancy considering the shelf life of a goalkeeper.

His major impact against Liverpool also highlights just how a new signing can come in and rejuvenate the team, and Postecoglou is believed to have his eyes on further additions as injuries and suspensions debilitate his squad.

Tottenham are reliably believed to be firm contenders for Randal Kolo Muani's signature as the out-of-favour PSG forward searches for a landing spot after being deemed surplus to requirements by Luis Enrique.

There are even suggestions that Spurs hope to finalise an agreement for Kolo Muani by the end of this weekend, but talk of a deal being this advanced is yet to gain widespread traction among media outlets.

The north Londoners have been repeatedly linked with a swoop for Inter midfielder Davide Frattesi as well, and TV Play has a very intriguing update on the Italy international's future.

Davide Frattesi "ready" to join Tottenham if they can agree Inter deal

The 25-year-old is also attracting interest from Roma, but the Serie A side will have trouble meeting his €32m (£27m) asking price.

Spurs, on the other hand, can meet that valuation "immediately" - giving Postecoglou's side the upper hand in the race for Frattesi's signature. TV Play also states that Frattesi is "ready" to join Tottenham if they can find a deal with Inter despite his apparent preference for Roma, as the Premier League "fascinates" him.

For Roma, it is "practically impossible" for them to pay £27m in January, which is why they're working on a loan with an obligation-to-buy clause.

Tottenham are keen to orchestrate another Serie A transfer after their successful signings of Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur and Destiny Udogie, and if all goes to plan, Frattesi may well be following them.

"Frattesi seems to be the next Barella," said Fabrizio Romano in 2021.

"He’s this kind of player, super talented, very interesting."

Tottenham really want £67m midfielder in January; "big chance" he moves

Tottenham Hotspur are reliably believed to be very keen on signing one midfielder in January, and there is a major possibility he leaves his club before deadline day.

Spurs eye new midfielder amid Randal Kolo Muani pursuit

A plethora of reports over the last week have suggested that PSG outcast Randal Kolo Muani is Spurs' next top transfer target, and there are even suggestions that the Lilywhites are optimistic they can finalise a move for the France international forward very soon.

GiveMeSport stated on Thursday that Tottenham believe they can finalise a deal for Kolo Muani by the end of this weekend, with chairman Daniel Levy looking to agree a loan deal for the former Eintracht Frankfurt star, which would include an option or obligation to buy outright.

However, with both Juventus and Man United also circling, Spurs face stiff competition from elite competitors. Kolo Muani, while out of Luis Enrique's plans at PSG, is a proven top-level player, racking up an impressive 23 goals and 17 assists during his best year at Frankfurt in the 2022/23 season.

"I don’t expect there will be any issues signing a player like Kolo Muani, because the money is only continuing to roll in," said pundit John Wenham to Tottenham News after the New York Jets announced that they will play an NFL game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this year.

"Kolo Muani is someone I’ve wanted from when we were first linked with him. I think he would be an outstanding signing for us. He is good enough that people would quickly realise he could be starting for us in a variety of roles.

"It will be difficult to get him, especially with clubs like Juventus interested. However, we’ve shown in recent times we can beat big clubs to signings, we have the financial muscle to do that now."

There are also reports that Tottenham are targeting a new midfielder this month, and it is believed they could explore bringing in Real Betis star Johnny Cardoso to the club a few months earlier than anticipated.

Tottenham keen on signing Johnny Cardoso in January

According to GiveMeSport and journalist Dean Jones, Tottenham are extremely keen on signing Cardoso in January as Postecoglou's side look to bolster the engine room with fresh quality.

The USA international has performed impressively for Betis so far this season, and Spurs can use a first-option clause to sign him for around £21m as part of the deal which saw Giovani Lo Celso head to La Liga.

However, that option isn't active until the summer and will only be available to them for around a fortnight (The Telegraph). Cardoso's contract includes a £67m release clause, and while it is unlikely they'll pay anywhere near that amount just to get him in early, the interest in striking a mid-season deal is said to be very much alive.

There is also a "big chance" that the 23-year-old departs Betis before 3rd February according to Jones, so this transfer could be one to watch.

Tottenham Hotspur have made a fresh approach to sign a £60m-rated Premier League player, according to one journalist.

Spurs and Ange eye more signings after Kinsky

Ange Postecoglou and Daniel Levy have already secured Spurs’ first new addition of 2025, bringing in goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague.

The shot-stoper has already made and impressed on his debut, keeping a clean sheet in the 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.

Attention now seems to be on more additions, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano previously saying that Spurs could be “busy” with two or possibly three signings.

“They have already told the manager that they will do something. So I expect January to be busy for Spurs," Romano said to GiveMeSport before the January window opened.

“I think it could be two signings, maybe three, I'm not sure, but it will depend on opportunities. But Tottenham are exploring options, Tottenham are actively working on scouting and following players. So I think for Tottenham it will be a busy month.”

With a goalkeeper already secured, further additions could come higher up the pitch, with Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani heavily linked with a move to north London.

Spurs are actively exploring a possible move for Kolo Muani, whereas in midfield, Tottenham have also been offered Inter Milan’s Davide Frattesi, who is reportedly "frustrated" with his current employers.

As well as exploring the market in Europe, a number of Premier League players have also been mooted as Tottenham targets in 2025.

Spurs held internal talks over a move for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite before the turn of the year, whereas Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes was wanted last summer. Now, it looks as if a move for Gomes, valued at £60m by those at Molineux, is being considered once more.

Tottenham make fresh approach for Wolves star

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Tottenham are among the clubs who have made contact to ask for “fresh” information over a deal to sign Gomes. Wolves will only consider selling for a huge fee, though, with rivals Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United also named in the update.

Gomes is a central midfielder who can also play in a holding role if needed and has seen his Transfermarkt value rocket to a career high €40m. The Brazil international joined Wolves in January 2023 and came in for plenty of praise from Micah Richards last year, with the pundit saying Gomes is “going to the top”.

“We have to give a quick shoutout to Gomes of Wolves. Oh my word, what a player he is by the way. I didn’t have the team-sheet and I didn’t have my glasses on and I was thinking, “who’s this guy?” I couldn’t even see until I got my glasses on but Gomes, he is a player by the way.

“Obviously, we don’t get to see Wolves too much on TV. We see them on Match of the Day. Seeing him up close and personal, his touches, his anticipation when he’s winning the ball back and his weight of ball forward. Sorry Wolves fans, he’s going to the top that lad.”

Whether or not his next move is to Spurs remains to be seen, but it appears as if Gomes is a Premier League player in demand currently.

Deal close: Spurs chase £202k-p/w "superstar" who could be their Marmoush

This season has been full of incredible highs and dismal lows for Tottenham Hotspur.

For example, despite blowing both Manchester United and Manchester City away in the Premier League, they find themselves down in 12th, yet in the League Cup, they have a 1-0 lead over Liverpool heading into the second leg of their semi-final.

So, while their league campaign might well be over, there is still plenty to play for and to ensure Ange Postecoglou continues his record of winning silverware in his second season, Daniel Levy and Co must provide him with some new talent this month.

Fortunately, recent reports have revealed that the North Londoners are closing in on a sensational attacker who could do precisely that, an attacker who has been compared to the prolific Omar Marmoush.

Tottenham Hotspur close in on sensational striker

According to a recent report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are looking to wrap up the signing of Randal Kolo Muani later this week.

The report claims that the North Londoners have been in talks with Paris Saint-Germain this week and that while the Parisians would prefer an obligation to buy in the deal, Spurs are pushing for an option.

Interestingly, the report has also confirmed that Manchester United and Juventus are looking to hijack the deal, but their unwillingness to even entertain an option to buy the Frenchman has left Levy and Co in an advantageous negotiating position.

There are clearly still things that need to be worked out for this loan deal to be finalised, but as things stand, it looks like Spurs will get their man, and considering his ability and the fact he's been compared to Marmoush, that can only be a good thing.

How Kolo Muani compares to Marmoush

Okay, so in terms of exciting, game-changing and sought-after forwards across Europe, Marmoush is undoubtedly one of the hottest prospects around, and considering he's racked up a sensational haul of 18 goals and 12 assists in 22 games this season, it's not hard to see why.

With that said, where do the comparisons between him and Kolo Muani come from?

As so far this season, the French international has been limited to just 453 minutes of first-team football, and while he's racked up a reasonable haul of three goal involvements in that time, he's still just been a rotational player in Paris.

Well, aside from their positional similarities and the fact that, before he moved to PSG, the 26-year-old was also utterly unstoppable for Eintracht Frankfurt and produced 40 goal involvements in 46 appearances, this comparison primarily stems from FBref.

It compares players in similar positions in Europe's top five leagues, the Champions League and Europa League creates a list of the ten most comparable players for each one, and, in this instance, has concluded that the Egyptian is the seventh most similar forward to the Frenchman over the last 365 days.

The best way to see where this comparison has come from is to look at the underlying metrics in which the pair rank closely, including, but not limited to, expected assisted goals and actual assists, goals per shot, progressive passes and passes into the penalty area, carries, successful take-ons and more, all per 90.

Finally, while the record from his time in Germany and the similarities to Marmoush should be reason enough for the North Londoners to go all out for the 26-year-old "superstar," as dubbed by German legend Lothar Matthaus, his international experience is another big bonus to signing him.

For example, the £202k-per-week dynamo has already won 27 caps for the French national team, which, when you consider the quality of players in that squad, is seriously impressive.

Ultimately, Spurs need some attacking reinforcements this month, and while he might not be the biggest name around, Kolo Muani could be the perfect addition to Postecoglou's squad.

Their own Odegaard: Spurs chasing "quality" England star available for free

It's been just over a year and a half since Ange Postecoglou took charge of Tottenham Hotspur, and to say a lot has happened in that period would be a massive understatement.

The Australian started like a house on fire and led the team to the top of the Premier League ten games into his tenure, but since then, the North Londoners' league form has been abysmal, and, as things stand, they find themselves in 12th place.

However, there have been encouraging signs, from the scintillating style of football to their brazen confidence against the best teams in the country and, most importantly, that they currently lead Liverpool 1-0 heading into the second leg of their League Cup semi-final.

So, while things haven't been perfect, there have been enough signs to indicate that the Lilywhites are heading on the right track, although to keep that going into next season and surpass the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, Daniel Levy and Co will need to bring in the right players to help the manager.

Fortunately, recent reports have linked the club to an England international who could be available for free in the summer and has won comparisons to the incredible Martin Odegaard.

Tottenham Hotspur chase England international

According to a recent report from transfer journalist Dean Jones on the Ranks FC podcast, Tottenham are interested in LOSC Lille star Angel Gomes.

Speaking on the podcast, Jones revealed that the North Londoners are "looking at" central and attacking midfielders this month and that the former Manchester United prospect is one of the players they are keen on.

The Englishman's contract is set to expire in the summer and the transfers expert has claimed the club are trying to convince him to join for free.

However, he also revealed that there is a chance something could happen this month, as his contract situation would likely prevent the French outfit from demanding too much.

In all, while signing Gomes this month could be an option, it seems far more likely that he'd make a move for free in the summer, and given his incredible ability, that would be a sensational coup for Spurs, especially as he's won comparisons to the equally sensational Odegaard.

How Gomes compares to Odegaard

Okay, before we get into a couple of the other reasons why Tottenham should go out and sign Gomes this year, let's examine this comparison to Odegaard and where it has come from, as while the fans may dislike him, he's a brilliant midfielder.

Well, it primarily stems from FBref, which compares players in similar positions in Europe's top five leagues, the Champions League and Europa League then creates a list of the ten most comparable players for each one, and, in this instance, has concluded that the Norwegian is the fifth most similar midfielder to the Englishman over the last 365 days.

The best way to see where this comparison has come from is to look at the underlying metrics in which the pair rank closely, including, but not limited to, expected non-penalty goals, assists, progressive passes received, crosses into the penalty area, tackles won and more, all per 90.

On top of the statistical similarities between the pair, they both also occupy similar roles in that they do contribute to their team's attack but are not out-and-out playmakers, instead acting as hybrid eights who are involved in practically all phases of play.

With that said, while comparisons to one of the Premier League's leading midfielders are certainly reason enough to sign someone, the former Manchester United ace can also bring his experience to the team.

For example, the "unbelievable" talent, as described by Statman Dave, has now performed brilliantly in the Portuguese and French top-flights and is now a regular in the England set-up, having won four senior caps since September, two of which came from starts.

Ultimately, Spurs are going to need to bring in more and more talent over the coming years to help Postecoglou achieve his lofty goals and signing Gomes for a small fee this month or for free in the summer seems like a total no-brainer.
