Spurs in contact to sign "superstar" rival for Dominic Solanke

Ange Postecoglou's tenure as Tottenham Hotspur manager has been challenging to say the least.

The Australian has undoubtedly brought back the entertainment factor, but he's also failed to eliminate the inconsistent streak that has seen them lose at home to Ipswich Town and then beat Manchester City 4-0 away in their next game.

He has also had mixed luck in the transfer market, as players like Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner have arguably flopped, while Brennan Johnson and Dominic Solanke have been important goalscorers this season.

That said, while the club has a few wingers to choose from, they do not have a genuine rival for the Englishman, although, based on recent reports, that could be about to change.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from journalist Graeme Bailey, Spurs are one of several clubs, including Arsenal, who Randal Kolo Muani's representatives have contacted over the last week over a potential move.

The French international has found himself out of favour at Paris Saint-Germain and has been told to look for a new club elsewhere, with a move to England reportedly his preference.

The report claims that the Parisians would prefer to sell the forward this month but would be willing to accept a loan move, which could be perfect for Spurs, especially if they can agree on a deal with an obligation to buy in the summer.

It could be a complicated deal to get over the line, but given Kolo Muani's incredible ability and potential, signing him on a short-term loan to rival Solanke seems like a no-brainer, even if he is earning a whopping £202k-per-week.

Why Kolo Muani would be great competition for Solanke

Okay, so the first thing to say is that if you were to base your opinion solely on his form this season, you may not think Kolo Munai would be a good rival for Solanke.

After all, the Frenchman has just three goal involvements to his name in 14 appearances, to the Englishman's 15 in 25.

However, as we mentioned above, the PSG ace has received limited minutes this year, and when he has played a considerable amount in campaigns prior, he has delivered.

For example, just last year, the "ice-cold" striker, as dubbed by German legend Lothar Matthaus, scored 12 goals and provided six assists in 44 appearances, meaning he averaged a goal involvement every 2.44 games.

Moreover, the season before that, he did even better, scoring a mind-blowing 23 goals and providing 17 assists in 46 appearances, which equates to a staggering average of a goal involvement every 1.15.

Finally, while the 26-year-old's raw output hasn't been brilliant this season, his underlying numbers have been across the last 365 days.

According to FBref, which compares players in similar positions across Europe's top five leagues, the Champions League and the Europa League, the attacking "superstar," as dubbed by Matthaus, sits in the top 3% of forwards for successful take-ons, the top 7% for progressive passes received, the top 10% for non-penalty expected goals and the top 11% for assists, all per 90.

Ultimately, while it wouldn't necessarily be advisable for Spurs to sign Kolo Muani on a permanent deal next month, he is more than good enough to come in on a short-term loan and provide Solanke with some much-needed competition.

Tottenham make January approach to sign £149,000-per-week Barcelona star

Tottenham Hotspur have approached Barcelona over signing a highly-rated member of Hansi Flick's squad, and he would be quite the addition for Spurs as Ange Postecoglou looks to reinforce his ranks in January.

Ange Postecoglou pleads for January signings at Tottenham

Postecoglou has admitted in the build up to next month's transfer window, which opens tomorrow, that the Lilywhites are in dire need of more options to get them through the 2024/2025 campaign.

Destiny Udogie suffered a hamstring problem against Wolves, adding to the club's injury woes, with Postecoglou lamenting the club's inability to rotate and over-reliance on a core group of players.

"Yeah, I think it was a hamstring," said Postecoglou on Udogie's current condition after their 2-2 draw with Wolves.

"Again, like I said, we've been relying on a core group of players because we just haven't had the ability to rotate so at some point it was going to catch up with us. Unfortunately, it caught up with Destiny."

Udogie joins Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Ben Davies, Guglielmo Vicario, Richarlison and Wilson Odobert on the treatment table, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Djed Spence also suspended from action.

This has left Postecoglou with a paper-thin squad ahead of their looming clashes with Newcastle United and Arsenal just after the new year, and Tottenham's head coach is adamant that the club are working hard to bring in fresh options.

"In the context of where we're at at the moment, I think it is an important one, because if we add what we need to add, and it fits the bill in what we're trying to do... our league position is not great, but it’s super tight and we’re not that far off," said Postecoglou on the January window.

"Like I say, we're in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup and still in great position in Europe and there's the FA Cup. There's still everything to play for for us this year to make it a season where we can have success, but we need some help, the players need some help, more importantly, and the club is working really hard to try to make that happen."

Tottenham make approach to sign Barcelona star Dani Olmo in January

According to Mundo Deportivo, the north Londoners are now looking to take advantage of the precarious situation concerning Dani Olmo and his future at Barca.

The Spaniard, as things stand, is free to leave at zero cost on January 1 - with Barcelona given until 23:59 tonight to register Olmo in time for the second half of 2024/2025.

Barca have seen multiple appeals to register him rejected, due to La Liga's strict salary cap preventing them doing so, and the prospect of him departing with no ties is now becoming more and more real.

This has alerted N17 figureheads, with Tottenham approaching Barcelona over signing Olmo, as they sense a chance to seal a mid-season deal for nothing.

£46m international star contacts Tottenham over joining them in January

A £46 million international star's camp has held discussions with Tottenham Hotspur over the player potentially signing for them in January, according to reports, with Ange Postecoglou's side gearing up for a crucial January transfer window.

Tottenham set for "important" January after torrid run

Spurs have won just once in their last seven Premier League games, most recently dropping points at home to relegation-threatened Wolves, and the pressure is mounting on Postecoglou.

The Australian's honeymoon period is well and truly over after an excellent debut campaign in the dugout last season, with Spurs currently mid-table and suffering from a major injury crisis which has plagued their squad for months.

Next, Tottenham are set to take on an in-form Newcastle United side in north London on January 4, and supporters will be hoping that they're well on the way to bringing much-needed additions through the door by that point.

Postecoglou has admitted that Spurs are in need of reinforcements when the winter window opens for business in under 24 hours, while reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano says that January will be vital for the Lilywhites, as their manager faces speculation surrounding his position in the dugout.

“It’s obviously a difficult situation, but what I’m hearing is that Tottenham keep supporting and trusting Ange Postecoglou," said Romano to GiveMeSport. “The January window is going to be important. Obviously, they need to do something.”

Right now, Spurs have a stark shortage of defensive options, with Destiny Udogie most recently suffering a hamstring problem - joining Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Ben Davies and number one shot-stopper Guglielmo Vicario all on the treatment table right now.

This has led to reports that Tottenham are considering a new centre-back in January, with Borussia Mönchengladbach star Ko Itakura among Postecoglou's potential targets for the winter.

There are also suggestions that Spurs could add a new forward to their ranks, and one exit-bound ace they've been linked with is PSG's Randal Kolo Muani.

The France international is a mainstay for his country, with Didier Deschamps calling him to every single Les Bleus squad since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Kolo Muani has bagged three goals in his last five games for France, but at PSG, he's out of favour under Luis Enrique and widely tipped to leave in January.

As per The Boot Room and journalist Graeme Bailey, Kolo Muani's camp have contacted Tottenham ahead of the looming January window for discussions, as the former Eintracht Frankfurt star sets his sights on a move to the Premier League.

PSG value the player at around £46 million, according to other reports, but he'll most likely leave on a temporary deal - which could suit Postecoglou's side down to the ground.

Kolo Muani has interest from clubs in Serie A and the Turkish Süper Lig, but it is believed that a move to the English top flight would be his preference and Tottenham are firm contenders for his signature.

The 26-year-old's best season came at Eintracht, where he bagged 15 goals and 11 assists in the Bundesliga alone across 2022/2023.

4 players who could leave Tottenham Hotspur this January

It would be fair to say that Tottenham Hotspur have had a mixed first half of the season, with a 2-1 home defeat against newly promoted Ipswich Town being a particular low point for Ange Postecoglou's side.

However, there are reasons to be optimistic. A 4-3 victory against Manchester United in the EFL Cup saw Tottenham progress to the semi-finals of the competition, giving them a great chance to end their long wait for a trophy.

However, if the Lilywhites are to compete on all fronts, Postecoglou may need to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window, meaning he may need to make room in the squad.

Here, we take a look at four Spurs players who could leave the club this January.

Linked to: RB Leipzig

Postecoglou has defended his players on a number of occasions, but that wasn't the case after the 1-1 draw against Rangers in the Europa League, with the manager particularly critical of Timo Werner's performance.

The 59-year-old said: "He wasn't playing anywhere near the level he should.

"When you've got 18-year-olds [playing], it's not acceptable to me and I said that to Timo. He's a senior German international.

"The moment we're in right now, it's not like we've got many options. I need everyone to at least be going out there trying to give the best of themselves. His performance in the first half wasn't acceptable."

As such, it would not be a surprise if the Aussie is happy for the German to return to his parent club in January, and there has been a suggestion that the Bundesliga club would be willing to sanction that deal - but only if an alternative suitor is found.

Linked to: Getafe

Sergio Reguilon has been an outcast at Tottenham this season, appearing for just one minute in the 4-3 EFL Cup victory against Manchester United before a more substantial 40-minute runout in the recent draw to Wolves.

As such, it is no wonder that the Spaniard is reportedly desperate to leave the club this January, and there are signs that an exit could soon be on the horizon amid interest from Getafe.

The La Liga side are said to have opened early talks to sign the left-back, although the discussions are thought to be at a very early stage.

The 28-year-old's contract is set to expire in the summer, meaning he will be able to leave on a free transfer soon enough, but he is keen to seal a move away sooner rather than later having played virtually no part in Postecoglou's plans this season.

Linked to: Corinthians, Flamengo, Fluminense & others

Brazilian clubs are queueing up to take Richarlison back to his home country, with Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt confirming his club's interest, having personally made contact with the striker to discuss the terms of a deal.

"What is concrete is that we have expressed a formal interest in Richarlison. We know how difficult it is to bring him in," said Bittencourt.

"The head of scouting [Ricardo Corrêa] was the head of scouting in 2016, he was the one who recommended signing him when he was the top scorer in Série B. I brought Richarlison in as vice-president of football. We’ve created a relationship, not a friendship, but a strong one. We sent a first document to the English club, still without an offer, but asking if they would like to negotiate."

There is clearly no shortage of interest in the 27-year-old, as Corinthians, Palmeiras, Vasco da Gama and Flamengo have all lodged enquiries.

However, Spurs have no intention of letting the forward leave this winter, as Postecoglou views him as an important member of the squad, meaning any offers are likely to be knocked back. As such, while there is widespread interest in Richarlison, it seems unlikely that he will leave in January.

Linked to: Genoa

It was recently reported that Djed Spence is unlikely to be given a consistent run in the first team over the next few weeks as Pedro Porro is above him in the pecking order, meaning that he could well be on the move this January.

Clubs have been put on red alert over the right-back's availability, which means Genoa could take a look at finally completing a deal after one failed to materialise despite interest in the summer.

However, there are signs that the 24-year-old could be happy to fight for his place in the starting XI given his comments after being given a runout in the EFL Cup against Manchester United:

"I just want to keep going. I’m happy with the assist and hopefully I keep helping the team out, keep going, playing well and hopefully we can keep winning.

"Sometimes it’s difficult [not playing] but you’ve got to stay ready.

"So thank you to my teammates who helped me stay ready, the coaching staff making me stay ready and when I get my chance do what I do.

"To get an assist and last game get an assist, I’m pleased with myself."

Romero upgrade: Spurs hold internal talks to sign £35k-p/w PL "monster"

Description

It's been a dismal season for Tottenham Hotspur so far this year.

Ange Postecoglou's side came into the campaign hopeful of building on their fifth-place finish last year but currently find themselves down in 11th place in the Premier League, with more losses than wins to their name.

Now, the North Londoners are the second-highest scorers in the league, so the issue clearly lies in defence, as they have conceded an astounding 28 goals in just 19 games.

So, recent reports linking the club with an exciting up-and-coming centre-back who could be an upgrade on Cristian Romero should come as no surprise.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from the Mail on Sunday via Goodison News, Tottenham are one of several sides keen on Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite.

The report claims that the North Londoners have already held internal talks over potentially signing the Englishman next month as they look for ways to solve their dire injury issues in defence.

Now, while the interest from other sides like Manchester United is far from ideal, the most significant obstacle to the Lilywhites completing this deal is the hefty price tag the Toffees have placed on the centre-back's head - a cool £80m.

It would certainly require a monumental investment from Spurs to get this deal over the line, but given Branthwaite's ability and potential, it could prove worth it down the line, especially as he could be an upgrade on Romero.

How Branthwaite compares to Romero

So, if Levy and Co were to sanction such a massive outlay on Branthwaite next month, they wouldn't do it with the intention of making him a rotation option.

No, the Englishman would come into the club as a starter, and, as such, he'd be up against the likes of Micky van de Ven and Romero for a place in the team, and as the former offers so much with his electrifying pace, it's likely the latter that would be his primary competition for a starting berth.

With that said, then, how do the pair stack up against one another? Well, given the position they play in for their sides, output is not a hugely relevant metric.

Instead, we'll take a look under the hood at the pair's underlying numbers from the start of last season to today, and when doing that, it's the Toffees star who just about edges things.

For example, while the Argentine is the better passer of the ball and makes more tackles overall, the "colossal" Everton star, as dubbed by Statman Dave, blocks more shots, makes more interceptions and clearances, has a better success rate when tackling dribblers, commits fewer fouls, gives away fewer penalties and is dispossessed less often, all per 90.

Finally, there is one other significant advantage the £35k-per-week titan has over his potential competition: his height.

The 22-year-old "monster," as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, comes in at a massive 6 foot 5, while the Argentine is just 6 foot 1.

That is a significant difference for a defender, especially when the Lilywhites have generally been bullied at set-pieces since Postecoglou took charge last year.

Ultimately, Romero is an undeniably talented footballer, but as things stand, Branthwaite's statistics and physical stature give him a slight edge.

Therefore, signing the Everton gem next year would be a brilliant decision and a real sign of intent.

Tottenham could sign "excellent" player to replace Forster this January

Tottenham Hotspur are now battling their Premier League rivals for the signature of an "excellent" new goalkeeper, according to a report.

Tottenham in need of a goalkeeper

Ever since Guglielmo Vicario was ruled out for the foreseeable future with a fractured ankle, there have been question marks over Fraser Forster, particularly in light of his most recent performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Englishman received scathing criticism for his performance, which played a part in Spurs' winless run being extended to three games.

When Vicario first picked up his injury, Ange Postecoglou made it clear that signing a new goalkeeper in the January transfer window would not be an option, saying: “We will NOT sign a new goalkeeper in January. We trust Fraser Forster”.

However, Forster's recent performances may have caused Postecoglou to change his stance, and Tottenham are now being linked with moves for a number of goalkeepers. Burnley's James Trafford has been considered as a potential option, although that could prove to be a costly operation, with the Championship side set to demand a fee of around £30m for his services.

As such, the Lilywhites have now started looking at other options, and a report from The Sun has revealed that Sunderland's Anthony Patterson is now an option. Spurs are now battling Premier League rivals Wolves for Patterson, so there is set to be competition for his signature, but Forster's poor performances could force Postecoglou's hand.

However, much like Trafford, the Sunderland keeper would not come cheap, as he signed a new long-term deal at the Stadium of Light last September.

Injury crisis at N17 forcing January activity

Tottenham find themselves in an injury crisis at the moment, with a number of first-team players out injured, and Vicario's absence has hit them particularly hard, with Forster failing to hit the heights expected of him in recent weeks.

As such, it would make sense if Postecoglou wants to bring in a new back-up goalkeeper this winter, particularly considering Forster is now 36-years-old.

Patterson could be a real upgrade for Spurs, having been lauded by Sunderland teammate Simon Moore, who said: “I’ve followed him for a while even before I came here and he’s class, he pulls off some unbelievable saves.

“He’s underrated with the ball at his feet as well, calm and composed. His handling is excellent, he can without a shadow of a doubt play at the top.”

However, it may be difficult for Tottenham to get a deal done this January, as Sunderland are unlikely to sanction their first-choice goalkeeper's departure for a reasonable price while they are in a promotion race.

Offer made: Spurs target dream Maddison rival in £25k-p/w "magician"

There is no getting away from it; it's been a dire season for Tottenham Hotspur so far.

Ange Postecoglou's side currently find themselves in 11th place in the Premier League, and while they have a League Cup semi-final to look forward to, it's against the utterly sensational Liverpool, who look practically unbeatable.

It's not all doom and gloom, though, as the club do have a number of genuinely exciting youngsters in the squad and academy, which could see them become a serious force a few years down the line.

Moreover, it would appear as if Daniel Levy and Co are leaning into this strategy further, as recent reports have linked the club with another exciting prospect who could be the ideal long-term rival for James Maddison.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from Spain, Tottenham are very interested in Brighton & Hove Albion prospect Facundo Buonanotte, who's currently on loan with Leicester City.

In fact, the report has revealed that the North Londoners have already acted upon their interest and have made an offer of around €45m for the young Argentine, which works out to about £37m.

However, the story claims that this fee may not be enough to tempt the Seagulls into selling the £25k-per-week gem, which only shows how highly rated he is.

It could prove to be a complicated and potentially costly transfer to get over the line, but given Buonanotte's ability and potential, it could be well worth pursuing, especially if he can offer Maddison more competition in the short term.

Why Buonanotte would be a good signing

There are two key reasons why Buonanotte could prove to be an excellent signing for Spurs.

The first is the extra competition he could offer Maddison over the next couple of years.

Now, at just 20 years old, there shouldn't be an expectation on the Argentine's head to come in and displace the Englishman, but as things stand, he looks like he could at least challenge him for minutes here and there.

For example, while the former Leicester City ace has scored eight goals and provided five assists in 26 appearances this season, the current Foxes "magician," as dubbed by Rising Stars XI on X, has scored four goals and provided two assists in just 18 appearances.

Now, while that means the Coventry-born ace is averaging a goal involvement every two games to the Argentine's average of one every three games, he is doing so in a more attack-oriented and better-resourced side, not to mention the fact that he's eight years older.

In short, while the Brighton prospect wouldn't displace the Lilywhites' number ten right away, he certainly looks like he's on the right track, which brings us to the second reason the North Londoners should sign him: their project.

With the additions of Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert, Lucas Bergvall, and Yang Hook combined with academy products like Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear, it's clear that Levy and Co are building for a bright future, and therefore, a player like Buonanotte would be the perfect addition.

As talkSPORT's Jack Johnson says, the youngster "is going to be a star," and if you still aren't convinced, then you only need to listen to former Premier League winner Carlos Tevez, who said the youngster "reminds me of Messi" a few years ago, and that "he has no ceiling."

Ultimately, while it is a lot of money to spend on a youngster, Buonanotte has already shown he can contribute now, and based on the opinions of those in the know, he could be an absolute world-beater a few years down the line.

Therefore, Spurs should do what they can to bring him to N17 next year.

Tottenham now hold talks over move to sign £40,000-p/w Premier League ace

Tottenham Hotspur have now held talks over the signing of a new defender from a Premier League rival, it has emerged, as they look to hand Ange Postecoglou a squad capable of competing in the Premier League.

Tottenham need defensive reinforcements

Even before the onslaught of injuries hit, it was clear that Tottenham needed defensive reinforcements. The Lilywhites headed into the season with just three recognised centre-backs (Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Radu Dragusin), while Ben Davies was a utility player able to play at either left-centre-back or left-back as required.

Beyond him, however, there was no clear cover for Destiny Udogie, with Sergio Reguilon not wanted by Postecoglou and sidelined as a result, and a January departure the most likely outcome for the Spaniard as things stand.

On the other side, Djed Spence has been sparingly used by Postecoglou, while injuries have forced him to field Yves Bissouma and Archie Gray in the heart of defence.

While centre-back is certainly a priority area to strengthen in the January transfer window, it also seems clear that Tottenham need additions at fullback, with Davies out of contract at the end of the campaign as things stand and seemingly set to depart north London on a free transfer. To respond to that, Tottenham are seemingly plotting a free transfer of their own to replace him.

Tottenham hold talks with Premier League defender

That comes according to a report from CaughtOffside, which claims that Tottenham have held talks with Crystal Palace defender Tyrick Mitchell over a potential move to north London in the summer.

Previous reports had claimed that Tottenham had shortlisted and been offered the English defender, but a fresh update has now revealed that "Mitchell is attracting the attention" of clubs across Europe, and that Tottenham are one of the sides to have held talks with him.

Though there is some confusion over his contract status, it is reported by both Transfermarkt and Capology that he is in the final six months of his current £40,000-a-week deal at Selhurst Park.

That means that he could be free to leave for nothing in six months' time, while he can enter into talks with interested parties around Europe from January 1st, though Premier League clubs cannot formally approach him until the end of the season.

Despite that, it is claimed that Postecoglou's side have held initial talks over a potential move, with Mitchell "not keen on committing his long-term future to the club amid interest from multiple European clubs" and eyeing a move away at the end of the campaign.

More defensive than most modern fullbacks, Oliver Glasner has praised Mitchell's ability in the past, saying: "Ty comes more from the defending part [Than Daniel Munoz]. I think he's already improved in his attacking game, but again, he still has potential within this. But he's very, very consistent in defending."

With Spurs unable to stop leaking goals, his defensive nous could come in very handy in north London.

Tottenham are now holding internal talks over whether to launch an astonishing raid to sign a new defender in January, as they look to hand Ange Postecoglou reinforcements to save his season in north London, according to a fresh report.

Tottenham need work in January

After a raft of injuries, Tottenham have almost been forced into moving in the January transfer window as they look to improve on a woeful first half of the campaign. The Lilywhites sit adrift of the top four in Premier League, with more defeats than wins and with their style of football continuing to cause problems.

Injuries have more than played their part too, with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero both having missed large chunks of the season through injury, while Ben Davies' injury has forced teenage midfielder Archie Gray into an unfamiliar centre-back position.

At the other end of the pitch, long-term injuries to both Richarlison and summer signing Wilson Odobert have left Postecoglou short on options in attack. Postecoglou is keen to add bodies in January, admitting as much before their 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

"[Transfer policy] can be disciplined, but we need a clear picture of where we're at. There is a need to reinforce if we can, it's not an easy time to do that in this window.

"The club is working hard behind the scenes to help the players we've got, who are giving everything in every game to try and get us through. We're working hard to try to get reinforcements."

Now, it has emerged that Tottenham are holding internal talks over a potentially exciting swoop.

Spurs eyeing Premier League defender

That comes as a fresh report from The Daily Mail, relayed by Goodison News, has claimed that Tottenham are holding internal talks over a potential move for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite as they look to improve their defence, with the Toffee star one of four players under consideration.

The 22-year-old shot to prominence at Goodison Park last season, with Alan Shearer hailing him as "magnificent" on the Premier League website 12 months ago.

Though linked with a move to Manchester United over the summer, he ended up remaining at Goodison Park but is now in the spotlight once more. That comes as the report claims that Tottenham are now holding internal talks over a potential move for the defender, who still has two and a half years left to run on his £35,000-a-week deal on Merseyside.

Though not enjoying his best season, Branthwaite would undoubtedly be a long-term Davies replacement, with the English defender still likely to improve in his career.

Any deal in January seems incredibly unlikely though, with Everton having reportedly slapped an £80m price tag on the defender's head as they look to avoid relegation from the top flight, with Branthwaite one of the first names on Sean Dyche's teamsheet when fit.

As bad as Forster: Ange simply must drop Spurs star after 4/10 performance

Tottenham Hotspur drew 2-2 with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon, undoubtedly placing more pressure on boss Ange Postecoglou.

Goals from Brennan Johnson and Rodrigo Bentancur weren’t enough for Spurs in North London after Jorgen Strand Larsen fired home a late equaliser for the visitors.

The point leaves Postecoglou’s side 11th in the Premier League table at the halfway stage of the campaign, 11 points off the Champions League spots, with the dream rapidly fading away week after week.

The draw leaves Spurs chasing their first win in three matches, losing two and conceding nine goals in the process, with the defensive injuries causing havoc once again.

However, such issues shouldn’t excuse the performance levels of numerous players who once again failed to deliver at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs’ disappointing performers against Wolves

Striker Dominic Solanke has often been the man to provide the goods within the final third this season after his club-record £65m transfer from Bournemouth in the summer.

The Englishman has scored six Premier League goals in 2024/25, but was unable to add to his tally this afternoon, looking wasteful in possession throughout the score draw.

He only completed one of his four attempted dribbles in North London, whilst also winning just six of his 16 duels and losing possession 11 times in the process.

As for goalkeeper Fraser Forster, he was once again unable to pull up any trees as he covered for the injured Guglielmo Vicario between the sticks.

The 36-year-old made his tenth appearance of the season earlier today, but wasn’t able to add to his clean sheet tally, conceding two or more for the fifth time.

He was beaten by a sensational strike by Hwang Hee-chan for the opener, but certainly could’ve done more to keep out the visitors' leveller, being beaten way too easily at his near post.

However, one other Spurs player failed to produce once again despite continued faith shown by Postecoglou, with the Aussie needing to take action ahead of the next league clash next weekend.

The Spurs player who was as bad as Forster against Wolves

Spurs captain Heung-min Son has for so long been the player to cause havoc for the club in attacking areas, but in recent months has struggled to produce the goods on a consistent basis in 2024/25.

The South Korean attacker has only managed to notch five goals in the league to date, with this afternoon another one of his displays to forget in North London.

He featured for just 64 minutes before being replaced by Timo Werner, but his withdrawal was understandable given his lack of impact during his hour on the pitch.

The 32-year-old only registered 27 touches of the ball, only completing 15 passes - losing possession six times and looking wasteful throughout the draw with the relegation-threatened side.

Son also missed his spot kick in the first half, with Postecoglou’s side undoubtedly going on to claim all three points had he managed to find the back of the net.

He also failed to complete any of his three attempted crosses, unable to succeed in dribbling past the opposition, looking a shadow of his former self, with his days at the top level undoubtedly numbered given his recent showings.

As a result of his dismal showing, he was handed a measly 4/10 match rating by Football London's Alasdair Gold - highlighting how disappointing he was once more.

Given his failure to deliver once again this afternoon, Ange simply must drop him from the starting lineup in the next meeting with Newcastle United next weekend.

It’s been sad to see a fan-favourite decline given what he’s done for the club over his decade in North London, but ultimately, the Aussie needs to be brutal to save his job and take the Lilywhites back to the top end of the table.
