Tottenham Hotspur could be minus one player in the January transfer window, as he looks at alternative clubs to join via his entourage.

Tottenham preparing to face Man City in the Premier League

On the field, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou is preparing his side to face-off against Premier League champions Man City at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon.

It's been a mixed start to the season for Tottenham, who have displayed real inconsistency so far, but City's own slump in form provides some encouragement for Postecoglou - who's looking to galvanise a consistent run of form from his Lilywhites side.

"It's always tough. You're playing City at their place [and they have] got a pretty imposing record there," said Postecoglou on Tottenham's trip to Man City.

"Our four losses have been away from home. It's always a great test, great challenge for us, for sure, to go there and disrupt things again and hopefully put some pressure on them. But we know it's never an easy task.

"We're definitely a better side than last year. [That is what] you are looking for first, to progress as a football team. Within that context, a lot of our players are also developing more but obviously the results haven't reflected that which is a major part. You want to improve your standing within the game and our results haven't reflected that. I'm still bullish and positive about our progress as a team. We've just got to push on now to get that consistency."

As Postecoglou prepares his side for the trip to Eastlands, murmurs continue to surround left-back Sergio Reguilon and his immediate future at N17, with the Spaniard yet to play a single minute in all competitions this season.

The £120,000-per-week defender (MEN) has been selected in just one matchday squad this term as well, which came in their trip to Coventry City in the Carabao Cup, and there are suggestions that Reguilon could terminate his Tottenham contract before it expires next summer.

Sergio Reguilon's agents looking for new club away from Tottenham

According to Spanish media, Reguilon's agents are looking to find him a new club away from Tottenham, and his departure seems "imminent" as the January window approaches.

Getafe are viewed as real candidates to sign the defender and give him a permanent new lease of life, with Reguilon spending the entirety of last season on loan spells at Man United and Brentford.

The 27-year-old's return to La Liga is a serious possibility heading into 2025, but wherever the player ends up, Reguilon's Tottenham career is well and truly behind him - despite originally being tipped to shine.

“I’ve been an admirer of Reguilon for some time," said pundit Noel Whelan in 2021 to Football Insider.

"He really stamped his authority on the game and grabbed the winner to show what a quality player he is.”

Ange can ease defensive injury crisis by unleashing "outstanding" Spurs ace

After the third international break of the season, the Premier League is finally back, and Tottenham Hotspur have the small task of an away game against Manchester City to contend with.

Ange Postecoglou would likely have preferred an easier first game back, but given the Champions' recent struggles, now could be as good a time as any to try and come away from the Etihad with all three points.

However, to make things even harder for the North Londoners, they will be without several of their key starters as injuries have taken their toll, especially in defence.

That said, while losing Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero is far from ideal, the manager can instead start someone who impressed at the Eithad last season and has mountains of experience to call upon.

Spurs' injury problems

As things stand, Spurs will be without six players for the game this afternoon due to injury.

In attack, Postecoglou will have to make do without Wilson Odobert, Richarlison and Timo Werner on the bench, who have been out for some time now, and Mikey Moore, who was ill before the international break and is still suffering the effects.

However, arguably, the biggest concern is in defence, as both starting centre-backs will miss out.

Van de Ven injured his hamstring in the League Cup clash with City last month, and unfortunately, the manager confirmed that he'll remain out until the "middle of December."

On the other hand, Romero injured his foot while on international duty with Argentina.

However, while his absence will be a massive miss, the prognosis isn't as bad, with the Australian revealing in his presser that while he "won't be right for tomorrow's game," the club are "hoping he'll be right for next week."

Overall, things aren't looking great for the North Londoners ahead of what will undoubtedly be an incredibly tough encounter.

Nevertheless, there is a player Postecoglou can turn to, a player who's already stood in for the club in this exact game before.

The Spurs ace who can step in against City

So, for those of you who remember, when Spurs travelled to the Etihad for a Premier League game last December, they were also without Van de Ven and Romero.

The former was due to another hamstring injury he suffered against Chelsea, and the latter was due to a straight red card he received in the very same match - when it rains, it pours.

So, with his arms tied, Postecoglou turned to his squad and opted to start Emerson Royal, who left in the summer, and a certain Ben Davies.

Despite playing two full-backs in the centre-back roles, the North Londoners came away from that game with a point in hand, and the Welsh veteran was a key reason why.

He put in an impressive performance against what was the best attack in the league and, by full-time, had earned a 7/10 match rating from respected Spurs writer Alasdair Gold, who wrote that he 'battled away at the back' and it was his 'diving header that ended up setting Spurs away for Lo Celso to score.'

On top of already showing that he can step in and cope with Pep Guardiola's juggernaut, the "outstanding" defender, as dubbed by the manager, has plenty of experience to rely on, which could help Radu Dragusin keep his cool alongside him.

For example, across his career, the 31-year-old veteran has made 337 appearances for the Lilywhites, 85 for Swansea City and won 89 senior caps for the Welsh national team, of which he's captained nine times in the last year.

Ultimately, Spurs are going to be in for a challenging game this afternoon, made all the tougher thanks to Van de Ven and Romero's absences, but with Davies in the side, they know that they can get a result at the Etihad.

Watch out Maddison: Ange could unleash stunning" Spurs academy gem

Description

Last summer, after years of turgid, uninspiring and unsuccessful football that left fans feeling disconnected from the club, Tottenham Hotspur made a bold choice and appointed Ange Postecoglou as first-team manager.

The Australian had been wildly successful north of the border with Celtic and in Japan with Yokohama F. Marinos, but with no experience in Europe's top five leagues, it was a massive gamble.

A year and a half on, it would be fair to say that the results have been mixed, as while he's been able to get his team to play some of the most entertaining football in the country, the same old inconsistencies that plagued his predecessors remain.

Furthermore, his transfers have been mixed, with Micky van de Ven and Brennan Johnson looking like hits, but Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner look less so.

However, one player who doesn't quite fit into either category is James Maddison, although if he doesn't start moving into the former, he could see himself eventually replaced by an exceptionally exciting academy gem.

James Maddison's Spurs career

So, when Spurs paid Leicester City £40m for Maddison in the summer of 2023, there was an expectation that he'd be a huge success in North London.

After all, he'd just scored ten goals and provided nine assists in 32 appearances for a relegated team.

Fortunately, he started his Lilywhites career like a house on fire, as in his first ten league games, the Coventry-born ace scored three goals, provided five assists and looked like one of the best players in the country.

However, after suffering an ankle injury in gameweek 11 that kept him out of action until the end of January, he wasn't the same dynamic creator when he returned.

For example, in his final 17 league appearances, the 27-year-old scored just one goal, provided four assists, and, as many fans will likely attest, often went missing in challenging games.

This year has been somewhat similar, as while the seven-capped international has a reasonable tally of three goals and four assists in 15 appearances, he's now lost his place in the starting lineup.

It was against West Ham United that Postecoglou hooked him at half-time, then against Crystal Palace, he was taken off in the 62nd minute when the team were desperate for a goal, and against Aston Villa and Ipswich Town, he played a combined 14 minutes.

There can be no debate over Maddison's innate talent and ability, but in the season and a half since his move to Spurs, there have been countless occasions in which he's failed to turn up in big moments, and should he not improve, he could eventually be replaced by one of the club's most exciting academy talents.

The academy gem who could rival Maddison

So, who is this academy starlet who could prove to be a serious rival for Maddison in a few years?

It's 16-year-old Lucá Williams-Barnett, who has been utterly sensational for the Lilywhites' youth sides, and before people claim he's too young to feature in the first team, he won't be in a few years, especially as 17-year-old Mikey Moore has already started his first Premier League game for the cub.

With that said, why does he pose a risk to the former Foxes star's long-term future in the first team?

Well, it's down to his positional versatility, as while he can play in a few areas of the pitch, his primary role is as an attacking midfielder, which would put him in direct competition with the 27-year-old in a few years.

That said, his output for the junior sides suggests that time may come sooner rather than later, as in just 15 appearances this season, the England U17 star, whom journalist Alasdair Gold described as "stunning", has scored 11 goals and provided five assists.

That means the "pure talent," as dubbed by U23 scout Antonio Mango, is currently averaging 1.06 goal involvements per appearance.

Finally, Postecoglou already seems to have a high opinion of the young maestro, as he named him in the first-team squad for the Europa League clash against Galatasaray.

Ultimately, it might be a couple of years until we see Williams-Barnett regularly playing for the first team.

However, based on his performances for the junior sides, we can confidently say that Spurs have another sensational talent on their hands, one who should start to worry Maddison.

Tottenham eyeing January move for another £117k-per-week Real Madrid player

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a January move for another Real Madrid player, following their rumoured interest in teenage playmaker Arda Güler, with Spurs looking to take advantage of his dissatisfaction at the Bernabeu.

Spurs targeting new wide forward in January

Last week, GiveMeSport shared what Lilywhites chairman Daniel Levy's personal plans are for the looming January transfer window.

It is believed Tottenham are in the market for a new wide-forward and defender, which is hardly surprising when factoring in injuries to the likes of Micky van de Ven, Wilson Odobert, Cristian Romero and Richarlison this season.

Spurs are also expected to let Timo Werner leave at the end of 2024/2025, green-lighting a return to RB Leipzig and not taking up that £8.5 million buy option in the German's loan deal, so a long-term replacement will be needed for him.

Odobert has just undergone surgery on his right hamstring, sidelining the Frenchman for the foreseeable future, so manager Ange Postecoglou quite simply requires more bodies out wide considering their involvement in the Premier League, Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Europa League.

In the past few weeks, Spurs have been linked with an array of interesting wingers - including the likes of Jack Grealish (Man City), Jadon Sancho (Chelsea), Takefusa Kubo (Real Sociedad) - but Real Madrid's Guler is a player of serious rising star quality and could be made available.

The 19-year-old, who's been likened to Lionel Messi, enjoyed a terrific end to 23/24 with a flurry of La Liga goals in his final six domestic matches. However, Carlo Ancelotti is yet to start him in the Champions League this season, and the Euro 2024 star's been handed just a trio of starts domestically.

Tottenham could look to sign Guler on loan in January as a result, potentially looking to take advantage of the teenager's lack of chances and hand him a new opportunity to shine in north London.

Tottenham eyeing January move for Brahim Diaz

According to The Boot Room, Spurs may even look to tempt one of Guler's teammates - £117,000-per-week winger Brahim Diaz.

The Moroccan is in a very similar situation to Guler, with Ancelotti handing him precious few minutes this season. When given a run out, the ex-Man City starlet has impressed with a goal and two assists in La Liga this season, but TBR state that Diaz is unhappy right now with his lack of game time.

It is believed Tottenham are actively keeping tabs on Diaz with the January window fast approaching, but the likes of City, AC Milan, Arsenal and Newcastle United are also maintaining a watching brief on the 25-year-old.

"It was Messi-esque," said TNT Sports pundit Owen Hargreaves on Diaz, after he scored a sensational solo goal against RB Leipzig in the Champions League earlier this year.

“Because of the way he can dribble and his low centre of gravity, it was just breathtaking. One of the best goals you’ll see all season. The quality of this goal is really astonishing.”

Tottenham now serious contenders to sign "gifted" £100k-p/w Chelsea star

Tottenham Hotspur are now serious contenders to sign a “gifted” star who earns £100,000-a-week at his current club, according to a new report.

Spurs are back in Premier League action this weekend, as they travel to the Etihad to face Manchester City, looking to make it two wins over the Sky Blues in the space of a few weeks.

Tottenham transfer news

Ange Postecoglou’s side could be busy when January arrives, as they try to keep up with the top-four race in the second half of the season, as well as continue in the Europa League. The Spurs boss will want to improve his squad if the right opportunities come about, and one player they could have their eye on is former midfielder Harry Winks.

Spurs were linked with a move for Winks last weekend, which does come as a surprise given he left the club in 2023, to join Leicester City. He was sold to the Foxes for £10 million, but now Spurs are interested in bringing him back, and it could cost them £32 million.

Postecoglou will not want to lose any players in January, but that could be a difficult promise to keep, as Manchester United, Man City, and Real Madrid lurk with interest in Pedro Porro. Ruben Amorim is pushing the Red Devils to sign Porro, as he knows the Portuguese well from their time at Sporting Lisbon, and the player’s entourage are expecting an offer to arrive.

Tottenham will be looking to stand firm, and any business they do in January will likely be for arrivals, and they have their eye on another player, who isn’t getting on well at his new club and could be an option for them in the New Year.

Tottenham now serious contenders to sign "gifted" £100k-p/w star

According to a report from Spain, Tottenham are interested in signing Jadon Sancho in January. The Englishman is currently on loan at Chelsea, with the Blues having the obligation to buy from Man Utd at the end of the season when conditions are met.

Sancho has struggled so far at Stamford Bridge, playing five times for them, and they have all come in the Premier League. The 24-year-old has yet to score for his new team but has grabbed one assist. Sancho, who earns £100,000-a-week at Chelsea, has missed their last two league games, as well as Europa Conference League games.

This report states that Spurs are serious contenders to sign Sancho, who was dubbed “gifted” by Edin Terzić. Despite his struggles at Chelsea, Sancho still has top teams keeping an eye on his situation, and Spurs are looking into the possibility of signing a player who has scored against them at their own ground, which came in the 2-2 draw against Manchester United back in April 2023.

It could be a complicated deal to get done, as Sancho is on loan at Chelsea from Man Utd, so an agreement would need to be reached between all three clubs for this to happen.

Spurs academy gem is now outscoring Kulusevski & Son after leaving

Tottenham Hotspur were a hard team to predict last season, as in one game, they could be sensational and blow their opponents away, whereas, in the next, they could be blown away themselves.

Unfortunately for Ange Postecoglou, that seems to be just as true for this season, as his side has beaten the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Aston Villa but lost to Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town and Galatasaray.

However, while there are certainly issues with the North Londoners this season, they're scoring goals, as their 23 in 11 games is the most out of anyone in the Premier League.

Even Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min have chipped in, although both are being outscored by a former academy gem who left just before Ange started.

Kulusevski & Son's season so far

It's been a particularly interesting campaign for Kulsevski this season, as after a somewhat underwhelming one out on the wing last year, Postecoglou opted to move him into a midfield role on a more permanent basis, where he's thrived.

In his 17 appearances so far, the "world-class" Swede, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has scored twice and provided five assists, and of those seven goal involvements, six of them have come with him in the middle of the park.

On the other hand, it's been a slightly more frustrating campaign for Son so far, as injury and fitness issues have limited him to just 11 appearances.

However, when he's been on the pitch, he has been deceivingly effective, and by this, we mean that while some of the sharpness and quick movements he was known for in the past have somewhat disappeared, he's still scored three goals and provided three assists.

This means that despite declining all-round play, the South Korean superstar is still averaging a goal involvement every 1.83 games, which is remarkable.

With that said, both stars are being outscored by a former academy gem who left the club last year.

Spurs' former Academy gem enjoying a stellar campaign

So, the former academy gem in question is 21-year-old Romaine Mundle.

The Edmonton-born winger came up through Spurs' youth system and was even named in the first-team squad a few times between 2021 and 2023.

However, upon refusing to sign a new deal in 2023, he left the club to join Belgian outfit Standard Liège a few days before Postecoglou officially took charge of the club.

Unfortunately for the talented winger, he did not get many chances with the first team in Belgium, so he joined Sunderland on a four-and-a-half-year deal in February of this year.

His first half-season with the Black Cats wasn't ideal either, as in 11 games he scored just a single goal and failed to provide any assists, which left some feeling like he might not be of the level required to play in the Championship.

However, with half a year under his belt, this season has been a different story entirely as, in 16 appearances, the 21-year-old winger, whom journalist Josh Bunting described as having "bags of talent," has scored four goals and provided two assists, meaning he's averaging a goal involvement every 2.66 games.

Moreover, according to Transfermarkt, his value has also skyrocketed from €300k - £250k - just before he left Tottenham to €2m - £1.6m - today, which is not bad at all.

Ultimately, leaving Spurs when he did was probably the best thing Mundle could have done, as he's now finally showing just what he can do at a big club and in a challenging league, although it would have been interesting to see how he'd have got on under Postecoglou.

Spurs struck gold on "world-class" ace who's a £125m star in the making

Tottenham Hotspur have been through a whole heap of change over the last four years or so.

The fans have seen managers come and go, expensive signings flop, and even club icon Harry Kane finally leave.

However, while Ange Postecoglou hasn't been able to remove the club's inconsistent streak, he has, at the very least, made them entertaining to watch again, which certainly wasn't the case under former manager Antonio Conte.

However, for all the Italian's mistakes in North London, he did at least sign one of the club's best players, a player who could soon be worth north of £100m based on those he's compared to.

Conte's recruitment misstep

Before we get to the player in question, let's look at another of the personnel additions made by Conte during his time in the hot seat, one who has not had the best of times in North London: Richarlison.

The Brazilian joined Spurs for a whopping £60m in the summer of 2022, and off the back of a campaign in which he scored 11 goals and provided five assists in just 33 games for Everton, it was easy to understand why Daniel Levy and Co sanctioned such an expensive offer.

However, the former Watford ace's first year in N17 was a disaster, as in 35 appearances across all competitions, he racked up a measly tally of three goals and four assists, meaning that he maintained an average of a goal involvement once every five games, which can hardly be described as value for money.

Last season, under the management of Postecoglou, things panned out a little better for the Nova Venécia-born forward, as he scored 12 goals and provided four assists in 31 games.

However, the one mark on that record is that nine of those goals came between gameweek 16 and 23 in the league, so outside that period, he remained unreliable in front of goal.

This season has seen the 27-year-old score once and provide one assist in seven appearances, but injuries have been a problem, and with Dominic Solanke's arrival in the summer it seems like his time at Spurs is all but up, which cannot be said for another of Conte's signings, who is thriving this year.

The Conte signing star who could be worth a fortune

To get straight to the point, the player in question is Swedish sensation Dejan Kulusevski, who initially joined Conte's Tottenham on an 18-month loan deal in January 2022, but was then signed permanently for around £23m in June the following year.

In the almost three years that the 24-year-old has been at the club, he has established himself as undoubtedly one of their most technically brilliant players, and while he's had some dips in form along the way, he remains one of their most dangerous players.

In his 113 appearances to date, the Stockholm-born phenom has scored 17 goals and provided 24 assists, equating to an average of a goal involvement every 2.75 games, which is even more impressive when you consider that he's played in seven different positions during those 113 games.

Speaking of positional changes, he's undergone a significant one under Postecoglou, as the Australian is now primarily playing the "world-class" star, as described by talent scout Jacek Kulig, in midfield, and it's proving to be an inspired change.

For example, of his seven goal involvements so far this season, six of them have come when he's started in central or attacking midfield, and it was there that he put in his best performance of the campaign away to Manchester United as well.

This sensational form and new position has seen him land comparisons with some of the most exciting and valuable players in the world, including Manchester City's Phil Foden.

The comparison stems from FBref, which compares players in similar positions across Europe's top five leagues, the Champions League and Europa League then creates a list of the ten most comparable players for each one, and in this instance, has concluded that the Englishman is the sixth most similar midfielder to the Lilywhites star.

Now, to get a better idea of how this conclusion was reached, we can examine the underlying metrics in which the pair ranks most closely, metrics including but not limited to non-penalty expected goals, progressive passes, key passes and passes into the penalty area and aerial duels won, all per 90.

While it's great in its own right to be compared to such a highly thought-of midfielder, it should also delight Levy and Co, as if the pair are so statistically similar and are the same age, then they should be worth similar amounts, right?

If so, the North Londoners would be sitting on an incredibly valuable asset, as Transfermarkt values the City star at an eye-watering €150m, which converts to around £125m.

Therefore, while he might not have that valuation today, it could be argued that in Kulusevski, Tottenham have an incredible £125m megastar in the making.

Tottenham have an unseen teenage sensation who's "just like" Mikey Moore

Tottenham Hotspur have an unseen teenage sensation who's "just like" young forward Mikey Moore, which bodes well for manager Ange Postecoglou considering just how impressive the latter has been when given an opportunity.

Mikey Moore praised for Tottenham displays this season

It's been a landmark season for Moore so far, who has been handed a fair few chances to impress by Postecoglou over the early stages of 2024/2025.

The 17-year-old was handed a Premier League start in Spurs' 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, alongside cameos off the bench against Brentford, Man United and Brighton, but the Europa League is where Moore has turned the most heads.

His very impressive displays against Ferencvaros and Dutch giants AZ Alkmaar, where he started both encounters, earned Moore plenty of praise - with teammate James Maddison even comparing the teenager to Neymar.

“From minute 45 to 65 I thought we had Neymar on the left wing. He was brilliant. Just demanding the ball and fearless," said Maddison on Moore to TNT Sports, after his performance against AZ.

“[He has] that young, fearless mentality and you never want to take that away from him. He’s a young kid, a brilliant lad, a lovely boy. He takes in information, and he’s got bags of ability, so I’ll be there as an older player, hopefully with some wise words to help along the way.

“He’s got all the ability. It’s just about knuckling down and working hard, which he does to be fair to him.”

Moore has been called a £200 million sensation in the making, and while Postecoglou was quick to shoot down comparisons with Neymar, it is safe to say that the England Under-19 international could have a pretty big future ahead of him.

Pundit hails Tottenham teenager Luca Williams-Barnett who's "just like" Moore

However, according to academy expert and pundit John Wenham, another youngster who supporters should watch out for is Luca Williams-Barnett.

The 16-year-old is on fire for Spurs' Under-18s right now, bagging nine goals and four assists in eight league outings so far this season, and Wenham has told Tottenham News that Williams-Barnett is "just like" Moore. Not only that, but Wenham also states that Williams-Barnett is becoming a "bit of a cheat code".

“Williams-Barnett’s goal contributions are incredibly similar to what Moore was doing,” Wenham said.

“A lot of supporters would say that having Moore was like having a cheat code when the forward was playing with the Under-18s.

“And I’d say that just like Moore, Williams-Barnett is also becoming a bit of a cheat code.”

Amorim pushing Man Utd to sign £58m Spurs star with agents expecting offer

Ruben Amorim is pushing Manchester United to sign an £85,000-a-week “titanic” Premier League ace, according to a recent report.

The January transfer window is around six weeks away from opening, and the Red Devils have their eye on a few players they could potentially sign, but finances will be tight, as they have to remain within the fair play rules.

Man Utd transfer news

INEOS are planning to run the Red Devils on a more restrictive transfer budget in the future, as they don’t want to continue the heavy spending on players that has been done in the last few years. However, with that being said, United are continuing to be linked with players, two of whom are defenders.

Several Sporting Lisbon players have been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, and defender Ousmane Diomande is one of them. The centre-back was a key player under Amorim, and at this moment in time, Diomande prefers a move to Man United over rivals Man City. Amorim and Diomande have already spoken, and Amorim holds the player in high regard, so he could look to bring him to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

As well as looking at Diomande, Man United are also remain interested in a deal to sign Jarrad Branthwaite. Both the club and head coach want to sign the Englishman, with more talks being held recently about how they can structure a deal. Branthwaite has refused to sign a new deal at Goodison Park, but Everton remain firm on their £70 million valuation for the defender.

Diomande and Branthwaite are not the only defenders that United are looking to sign, as they now have a current Premier League player on their radar.

Amorim pushing Man Utd to sign £85k-p/w ace

According to Spanish outlet AS, relayed by Sport Witness, Manchester United are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro. The 25-year-old has been an impressive performer in the Premier League since joining Spurs back in 2023 from Sporting Lisbon.

Porro, who has been labelled a “titanic” defender by The Athletic’s Spurs correspondent Charlie Eccleshare, played 35 times for Spurs last season in the league, and he scored three goals along the way, as well as recording seven assists.

Now, this report states that United and rivals Manchester City have joined Real Madrid in the race to sign Porro from Tottenham. Amorim knows the defender, who earns £85,000 a week at Spurs, well, as the pair worked together at Lisbon, and the United head coach seems keen to bring him to Old Trafford.

Porro’s entourage are “convinced” that the Red Devils will make an attempt to sign him from Spurs. This is largely because of Amorim’s arrival at Old Trafford, as the duo still have a good relationship. The defender is under contract until 2028 at Tottenham, and chairman Daniel Levy will not let the defender leave for anything less than €70 million (£58.3 million).

Spurs must rue selling £10m ace who Neville thinks should play for England

It's not been a straightforward season for Tottenham Hotspur this year.

Ange Postecoglou's side have alternated from looking like one of the best teams in the country, to one that handed Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town their first wins of the Premier League campaign.

The Australian has been able to turn his team into great entertainers, but that is also down to the fact that it's hard to know which team will turn up on any given day.

It could be argued that the forward-thinking coach could use one of the first players he sold when he took the reins last summer, a player who's been touted for a return to the England set-up by Gary Neville.

Spurs' 2023 summer departures

Before getting to the in-form player in question, let's examine a few other Spurs stars sold in Postecoglou's first summer, starting with the big one, Harry Kane.

Yes, after years of speculation, the England captain finally left North London last summer, but instead of remaining in the country, he joined German behemoths Bayern Munich for a fee said to be £86.4m.

The Lilywhites legend left the club with an unreal haul of 280 goals and 61 assists in 435 games, and while he's already scored 61 goals and provided 21 assists in 61 appearances for the Bavarians, he is still yet to win his first trophy as an invincible Bayer Leverkusen finally pipped FC Hollywood to the throne last year.

Now, someone who didn't leave with as much fanfare was Lucas Moura, who rejoined boyhood side São Paulo on a free after making 221 appearances for the North Londoners over five and a half seasons, in which he scored 39 goals, provided 27 assists and gave the fans that night in Amsterdam.

Since returning to Brazil, the 32-year-old has been in fine form and currently has 13 goals and nine assists to his name in 43 games this season, and was recalled to the Brazil squad and played in the World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay in September.

However, he might not be the only Spurs ace sold last summer to be recalled to their national team in the near future.

The former Spurs star Postecoglou must regret selling

Many former and current Spurs stars have been or still are part of the England set-up, such as Eric Dier, Kane, James Maddison, and now Dominic Solanke.

However, the player Neville believes should be a part of the England squad, and Postecoglou could regret selling last summer, is Harry Winks.

The Australian and Daniel Levy opted to cash in on the 28-year-old midfielder when Leicester City came in with an offer worth £10m, and while that looked like good business at the time, it's starting to look less so this season.

After playing a crucial role in securing immediate promotion back to the Premier League, the Hemel Hempstead-born "Rolls-Royce", as dubbed by former professional Ian Baraclough, has continued his fine form into this one, so much so that there are reports that the Lilywhites may be interested in re-signing him in 2025.

If true, it's not hard to see why, as not only has he already racked up three assists and one goal in just 11 appearances, primarily from defensive midfield, but his underlying numbers are seriously impressive when compared to the North Londoners' defensive midfielders.

For example, while he comes out second or third best in some metrics against Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur, he comes out ahead in others, including but not limited to assists, key passes, crosses into the penalty area, shot and goal-creating actions, blocks and more, all per 90.

Ultimately, it might not be a popular opinion, and Winks might not make it back into the Three Lions set-up under Thomas Tuchel, but he has shown this season that the Premier League is where he belongs.

Moreover, when looking at his raw output and underlying numbers, it certainly looks like he could be doing a job for Postecoglou and Spurs right about now.
