The Premier League is just over two weeks away, and while Tottenham Hotspur have looked good so far in pre-season, they still need to strengthen to ensure Ange Postecoglou can lead them up the table this year.

The club have been linked to a plethora of talented players this summer, from Eberechi Eze to Jonathan David, but at the moment, the only signings Daniel Levy and Co have made have been Archie Gray and Yang Min-Hyeok.

However, that could be about to change, as recent reports have revealed that the club are making progress towards signing an incredibly talented attacker who has been compared to Dejan Kulusevski in the past.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from Football Transfers, Tottenham have maintained their interest in Pedro Neto and have 'intensified their efforts' to secure his services this summer.

The report claims that the Lilywhites have now held further talks with the winger, who remains high on Postecoglou's wish list this summer.

A potential fee for the £50k-per-week star is not mentioned in the story, but previous reports from this month indicate that he could cost as much as £50m to £60m.

From a purely financial perspective, that might be too high a fee for Spurs to stomach, but considering how talented Neto is, maybe Levy and Co should splash the cash a little bit on this one - his comparison to Kulusevski is just a nice bonus.

Why Neto would be a great signing and his comparison to Kulusevski

Okay, so before we look at Neto's impressive output and why he'd be so good for Spurs, let's first examine this comparison to the Lilywhites' Swedish international and where it came from.

Well, aside from their obvious positional similarity, this comparison stems from FBref, which compared all attacking midfielders and wingers in the 2022/23 Premier League season, created a list of the ten most comparable players for each one, and concluded that Kulusevski was the most similar to the Wolves ace in the entire competition that year.

The way they came to this conclusion is by looking at their underlying numbers and then comparing how closely they rank in several key metrics, including non-penalty expected goals plus assists, progressive carries, passing accuracy, crosses into the penalty area, through balls, goal-creating actions, tackles won, clearances and carries, all per 90.

However, while it's a nice bonus and interesting to think about, Levy and Co are obviously not going to base their decision to sign the Portuguese star soley on his similarity to the former Juventus ace. Instead, they'll focus on his impressive form last season.

For example, in just 24 appearances for the Old Gold, the Viana do Castelo-born "monster", as dubbed by data analyst Ben Mattinson, found the back of the net on three occasions and provided 11 assists for his teammates, meaning he averaged a goal involvement every 1.71 games.

Moreover, this haul of 14 goals and assists would have made the 24-year-old the fourth most productive Spurs player last season, despite the lack of games he played. This brings us to the one significant drawback in signing him: his fitness, or lack thereof.

Across the entirety of last season, the former Lazio winger missed 23 games for club and country, and while that is certainly something to consider, the upside of him moving to Tottenham is that, with the brilliant wide talent already at Postecoglou's disposal, he may well get more time to rest, thus minimising his injury risk.

Ultimately, Neto is an undeniably talented player who could light up the Premier League with the Lilywhites, and while his fee and injury history are significant, so is the potential upside. Therefore, the North Londoners should push ahead and bring him to N17 this summer, as it may just be a gamble that pays off.

Ange personally targeting £60m forward as Tottenham open talks with him

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is personally targeting a £60 million forward, and it is believed the Lilywhites have opened talks with him.

Spurs expected to sign second attacker after Timo Werner

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy re-negotiated Timo Werner's loan deal to extend his stay until next summer, with the new arrangement also including a cheaper option to buy set at around £8.5 million.

The German's two goals and three assists in the Premier League helped Postecoglou's side to Europa League qualification, with his searing pace and positional awareness proving a real asset at times.

However, there are concerns over his overall finishing ability, while uncertainty surrounds the long-term futures of both Son Heung-min and Richarlison - who were Tottenham's two top scorers in all competitions last season.

Son's contract expires next summer as things stand, while Richarlison could still be sold by Tottenham. The Brazilian is thought to be attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, with technical director Johan Lange and the wider recruitment team open to selling for the right offer (HITC).

Tottenham will also need a replacement for winger Bryan Gil, who has sealed a season-long loan move to Girona, and the La Liga side could sign him permanently for around £12.6 million due to the release clause in his new contract.

Both Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze and Wolves winger Pedro Neto are on Spurs' list of attacking targets, and that has been confirmed by reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.

"There is appreciation from Spurs for Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace - and also with all of the other options we always mention here like Pedro Neto, this is absolutely confirmed," said Romano on Playback (via GiveMeSport).

"So Tottenham like Eze and like Pedro Neto, and they have decided how much they want to spend in that position. So there is internal conversation, but they will bring in one more player in that position for sure - one more offensive player."

Postecoglou targeting Neto as Tottenham hold talks with him

Football Transfers have shared an update on their pursuit of Neto in particular, coming as discussions over a move for Eze stall.

They claim Postecoglou is personally targeting Neto as Tottenham hold talks with him over personal terms. The Portugal international is said to feature prominently in the Spurs head coach's plans, coming after he bagged 11 assists and three goals in all competitions last season.

He won't come cheap, though, as reports suggest Wolves want around £60 million to let him go. There is also the matter of his concerning injury record, with Neto missing a combined 112 games through fitness issues since joining from Lazio (Transfermarkt).

The 24-year-old was absent for extended periods on multiple occasions due to hamstring problems last season, so Spurs will have to consider this very carefully.

Hijack planned: Spurs chase "irreplaceable" £40m machine who's like Sarr

Description

It's been a good summer for Tottenham Hotspur so far this year, with the exciting signings of youngsters Archie Gray and Yang Min-Hyeok already in the bag and four wins out of four, including a thrilling 4-3 victory over the K-League XI yesterday.

However, the Premier League will be back underway in just over two weeks, and with the teams around them strengthening, Spurs must bring in more first-team-ready stars to help Ange Postecoglou fulfil his goals.

Fortunately, reports indicate that Daniel Levy and Co have been hard at work in the market and could be about to pull off an exciting hijack of a major deal for a player who has won comparisons to the Lilywhites' own Pape Matar Sarr in the past.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Tottenham are planning to hijack Atlético Madrid's signing of Conor Gallagher.

The report claims that Chelsea are still seeking an offer in excess of £40m, which would be more than the £33m bid they have supposedly accepted from the Madrid-based side, per sources in Spain via BBC Sport.

As things stand, transfers expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that the player's decision now is whether to move to Spain or remain in England, meaning the Lilywhites still have a chance to hijack the deal with that higher offer, per Football Insider's exclusive report.

It would be a complicated transfer to get over the line, and a potentially unpopular one at that, but he proved his talent last season, and the fact that he's been compared to Sarr in the past is further evidence of his quality.

Why Gallagher would be a great signing and his comparison to Sarr

Okay, so before we look at a couple of the reasons why Gallagher would be a great addition to Spurs' squad, let's first take a look at this comparison to Sarr and where on earth it's come from, as we can imagine it's left a few of you scratching your heads.

Well, it primarily stems from FBref, which compared players in similar positions in the Premier League last season, created a list of the ten most comparable players for each one, and concluded that, in this case, the Lilywhites ace was the sixth most similar midfielder to the Chelsea man across the entire league.

While the most obvious comparison to make is their position, FBref came to this conclusion by examining their respective underlying numbers and highlighting the metrics in which they ranked very closely, including but not limited to non-penalty expected goals plus assists, actual non-penalty goals, progressive carries, passing accuracy, passes into the penalty area, goal-creating actions, interceptions, and ball recoveries, all per 90.

However, while the comparisons to the incredibly gifted Senegalese midfielder are certainly a bonus, they're clearly not the sole reason for signing the "irreplaceable" Englishman, as Glenn Murray described him on Match of the Day.

For example, while he's proven himself to be a valuable player at the heart of the Pensioners' midfield, thanks to his boundless energy and desire to disrupt opponents, he has also shown that he can influence proceedings at the sharp end of the pitch.

In his 50 appearances last season, he scored seven goals and provided nine assists, meaning he averaged a goal involvement every 3.12 games for the Blues. This haul of 16 goal involvements would have made him the joint-second most productive player for the North Londoners.

Ultimately, while there is understandable resistance to signing him from some Spurs supporters given his connection to Chelsea, Gallagher is a talented midfielder and would likely thrive in a Postecoglou system, and while this deal still feels unlikely, Levy and Co should go all out to bring him to N17 this summer.

Tottenham consider swap move for £162k-a-week forward with Ange "obsessed"

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is "obsessed" with signing a forward for his squad this summer, and it is believed Spurs are willing to offer players in exchange for one very highly-rated star in particular.

Spurs in market for another attacker as deadline day approaches

Summer transfer deadline day comes at the end of this month, so the Lilywhites are running out of time to get more required new additions through the door ahead of Postecoglou's second Premier League campaign in charge.

One of the rumoured goals for Spurs before August 30 is signing a new attacking option, despite having already sealed a season-long loan extension for Timo Werner.

Son Heung-min and Richarlison scored the bulk of Tottenham's goals last season, helping Postecoglou's side qualify for the Europa League, and they pushed Aston Villa right to the end in the race for Champions League qualification, only to just miss out.

The duo scored 29 goals in all competitions, filling the void left by Harry Kane's departure to Bayern Munich last summer, but uncertainty surrounds their futures. Son's contract is set to expire next year as things stand, while Spurs are open to selling Richarlison amid interest from Saudi Arabia.

Tottenham have been linked with a host of strikers and attackers as a result. Lille star Jonathan David has attracted interest from Spurs chiefs, while more marquee options like Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres are also on Postecoglou's radar.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney is also yet to make headway in finding a new club this summer. Spurs are being repeatedly linked with a move for the England international, with talkSPORT recently claiming that Toney wants Tottenham to make a bid for him.

“Toney, that is who Tottenham need to go and sign," said ex-club scout Bryan King to Tottenham News.

“He is worth the extra money, and if Spurs want to move to the next level that is the player they need to convince to join them. Spurs need to make that step and guarantee they will finish in the top four next season, and Toney is the player who will help them do that."

A move for Toney would arguably make sense, considering his contract situation, with Declan Rice even comparing him to Kane. However, a very surprising alternative is now being mooted.

Tottenham willing to make part-exchange bid for Victor Osimhen

According to journalist Wayne Veysey and Football Insider, Napoli star Victor Osimhen is attracting attention from N17, and Spurs have asked to be kept informed about the Nigerian's situation.

Chelsea and Napoli are in ongoing talks over Osimhen, and the Serie A side are growing more open to the prospect of Romelu Lukaku being included in a deal for the 25-year-old.

This has alerted Daniel Levy, technical director Johan Lange and Co. Indeed, Postecoglou is described as "obsessed" with signing a new forward, and Tottenham are willing to also offer players in exchange for Osimhen if they decide to formalise their intent.

It's been a good summer for Tottenham Hotspur so far this year, but with the return of the Premier League now less than three weeks away, they need to start making more signings.

As things stand, the only permanent signings the club have made are Archie Gray and Yang Min-Hyeok, and considering the latter won't be joining the team until the new year, it's not enough.

If Daniel Levy and Co want to help Ange Postecoglou take the team forward in 2024/25, they need to bring him some more exciting players, and fortunately, they might be about to do just that.

Recent reports have linked the North Londoners with one of the most exciting up-and-coming youngsters from Serie A, a youngster who could be the club's next Destiny Udogie.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from Italy, Tottenham are one of several clubs in the Premier League interested in signing Fiorentina's promising full-back Michael Kayode.

Alongside the Lilywhites, the report claims that Newcastle United, Bournemouth and Aston Villa are also keen on the player, with the latter already making an unsuccessful bid for his services.

The report revealed that an offer in excess of €20m plus add-ons, which converts to about £17m, should be enough to tempt La Viola into selling this summer.

If this really is all it would take to land Kayode, then Levy and Co should front up the money as soon as possible, as based on his performances last season and the way those in the know speak about him, it could prove to be a bargain in the years to come, akin to Udogie's signing a couple of years ago.

Why Kayode would be a great signing and his comparisons to Udogie

Okay, so let's review some of the similarities between Kayode and Udogie. The first one is position.

Like the Spurs ace, the Fiorentina man is a full-back, and while he plays on the opposite side to the former Udinese ace, he shares his ability to play further up the pitch when required, starting 34 games in right-midfield so far.

The next thing they share is their nationality, as both are Italian, and both have played for the U21 side, with the 20-year-old still playing at that level, while the 21-year-old Lilywhites ace has moved up to the senior side.

The final clear point of comparison between the two is that they are highly-rated youngsters, with Udogie being nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award last year and the Borgomanero-born gem being described as "an exciting defensive prospect" and "duel monster" by data analyst Ben Mattinson.

In fact, Mattinson clearly sees a bright future ahead for the full-back, as he claimed in October last year that Kayode is the type of player "you'd want defending the top LWs of the world", which is incredibly high praise.

Ultimately, if the fee required to sign the young defender really is as low as it's being reported, then Levy and Co must bring him to N17, as a full-back pairing of him and Udogie could see the club sorted for over a decade.

Spurs track "world-class" £109m goal machine who'd make Maddison unplayable

Description

It's set to be a massively important campaign for Tottenham Hotspur in the coming season, as Ange Postecoglou looks to go one better than last year and lead the club into the Champions League places.

However, with the teams around the Lilywhites currently strengthening their squads, Daniel Levy and Co must do the same and invest heavily in the transfer market.

The good news for fans is that, based on recent reports, that appears to be happening as the latest name touted for a potential move to N17 would be game-changing and not just for the Lilywhites but the league as a whole, and he'd help make James Maddison unplayable.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Tottenham, and particularly Postecoglou, are 'in the market' for a new top-level striker, and Victor Osimhen is one of the names they are 'keeping tabs on'.

The report does not mention how much a deal would cost the Lilywhites but does reveal that they would be willing to exchange some players as part of the deal.

However, whether this would convince the Partenopei to budge from the reported €130m - £109m - release clause they are after is another matter entirely.

This transfer may sound particularly far-fetched given the North Londoners' history of frugality, but with the league becoming increasingly competitive around them and their position as the wealthiest club in London, it might be time for them to go all out, especially as Osimhen could make Maddison unplayable.

Why Osimhen would be a great signing for Spurs and Maddison

While there are likely a plethora of reasons why Osimhen would be a transformational signing for Spurs and Maddison in particular, there is one that overrides all others: his output.

The Nigerian superstar has proven himself as one of the best strikers in world football over the last few years, and his ability to get on the end and finish off chances would surely propel the Lilywhites up the table and see the former Foxes ace end next season with a mountain of assists to his name.

For example, even though last season was somewhat of a down year for the former Lille ace - by his lofty standards - he still scored 17 goals and provided four assists in 32 appearances. This means he averaged a goal involvement every 1.52 games and would have been the second most productive player in Postecoglou's squad behind only Son Heung-min, who racked up 27 goals and assists in 36 games.

However, when you look back just one season prior, you get a glimpse of just how deadly the 25-year-old can be when he's on song, as he scored a whopping 31 goals in 39 appearances and provided five assists for good measure, equating to an incredible average of a goal involvement every 1.08 games.

With the ability to play that well, it's hard to disagree with José Mourinho's opinion that the Lagos-born marksman is a "world-class" player.

Now, just imagine a striker as clinical as the Napoli star playing alongside someone like the Spurs number ten, who, according to FBref, sits in the top 1% of attacking midfielders and wingers for shot-creating actions and progressive passes - goals, lots and lots of goals.

Ultimately, while this does feel like an unrealistic transfer, it shouldn't. Spurs have the money, and under a manager as progressive as Postecoglou, Osimhen could be utterly transformational. Therefore, Levy and Co should be doing all they can to bring the Nigerian goal machine to N17 this summer.

Spurs struck gold on "monster" now worth more than Chiesa & Gallagher

It's been a busy month for Tottenham Hotspur.

They've already played three pre-season friendlies, with another coming later today, and have signed the incredibly exciting Archie Gray from Leeds United.

However, based on reports and rumours, it seems almost certain that Daniel Levy and Co will be even busier in the remaining weeks of the transfer window as a whole host of stars continue to be linked with the club.

For example, Conor Gallagher and Federico Chiesa are just some of the latest big names touted for big-money moves to N17. However, as exciting as their arrivals would be, they're still worth less than one of the North Londoners' own stars.

The latest on Chiesa and Gallagher

So, we're starting with Chiesa, and it's a bit of a confusing one. The Italian international has been consistently linked with Spurs over the last few weeks, and on Monday night, Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg claimed that talks had started between the player's representatives and the Lilywhites.

However, according to an update from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano yesterday morning, there has yet to be any contact over a potential deal for the winger, although he did not rule out the interest reported in recent weeks.

So, while the progression of this transfer remains up in the air, what seems to be somewhat consistent over the last few weeks is that should the Euro 2020 winner make his way to North London this summer, he'll likely cost around £25m, which for a player of his stature seems quite reasonable.

Now, the situation with Gallagher is more straightforward.

According to a recent update from Sky Sports, the Englishman is wanted by Atlético Madrid and Tottenham, and while the Spanish side are in talks with Chelsea, Levy and Co are expected to make an offer soon.

It's not entirely clear how much they will offer, but according to talkSPORT, the Blues are after a fee north of £50m. However, like Chiesa's, the fee would still be lower than the valuation of one of Postecoglou's star men.

Cristian Romero's valuation in 2024

Yes, the player in question is Argentine international Cristian Romero, who has become one of Tottenham's most important and valuable players since his £42m move from Serie A side Atalanta in August 2021.

According to Transfermarkt, the 26-year-old "monster", as dubbed by journalist Charlie Eccleshare, is now worth €65m, which converts to about £55m, or about £5m more than the potential fee for Gallagher and a whopping £30m more than Chiesa's.

It's an undoubtedly hefty valuation for a centre-back, but it would be hard to deny he's earned it over the last few years, in which he's made 98 appearances for the Lilywhites, won two Copa América and lifted the World Cup in Qatar.

Moreover, according to Lionel Messi, the Córdoba-born titan is the "best defender in the world", and given his countless titles, mountain of goals and eight Ballon d'Ors, he probably knows a thing or two.

The 36-capped international had become such an essential figure in N17 that before the start of last season, the club made him co-vice captain alongside James Maddison, and in the year since, he's more than lived up to the mantle.

Ultimately, signing Chiesa and Gallagher would be tremendously exciting and help improve the team, but they'll have to do something really special in white to see their valuations surpass Romero's.

Offer expected: Spurs target £50m "machine" who'd be unreal with Maddison

In the Premier League, every season is important, but for Tottenham Hotspur, that feels especially true for 2024/25.

The Lilywhites enjoyed a relatively successful campaign under Ange Postecoglou last year, which ended in Europa League qualification, but this year, the objective has to be Champions League football.

The Australian won't get the same pass he did last year if there is another end-of-season collapse, although with the right signings, that can hopefully be avoided.

Fortunately, Daniel Levy and Co are hard at work as, based on recent reports, the latest player touted for a move to N17 would be perfect for Postecoglou and be unreal alongside James Maddison.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news

According to a recent report from Sky Sports, Tottenham have maintained their interest in Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

The report claims that the Lilywhites are expected to make an offer for the Englishman soon, although the Blues are in talks with Atlético Madrid about a possible move to the La Liga giants.

The good news for the North Londoners is that a separate report from talkSPORT has claimed the West Londoners are looking for a fee north of £50m, while the Spanish side are not looking to spend more than £40m, leaving room for Levy and Co to get ahead of them.

If Spurs are to sign Gallagher in the coming weeks, it won't be a cheap deal, but given his form last season and the potential partnership he could form with Maddison, it would be worth it.

Why Gallagher would be a great teammate for Maddison

Now, there are two main reasons why Gallagher would be such a great teammate for Maddison, and they are also some of the reasons he'd be great for Postecoglou.

The first is that in midfield, his boundless energy and ability to play a more defensive, if not disruptive, style of football would allow the former Foxes star to focus his attention on what's happening at the sharp end of the pitch.

For example, according to FBref, which compares players in similar positions across Europe's top five leagues, the Englishman sits in the top 1% of attacking midfielders - where he made 21 starts last year - or wingers for interceptions, the top 4% for tackles, the top 8% for clearances and the top 11% for blocks, all per 90.

However, while the Epsom-born "machine," as teammate Moises Caicedo dubbed him, is a fantastically hard worker in midfield, he can also help with attacking phases of play, sometimes taking some of the attention of the Coventry-born ace.

For example, in 50 appearances last season, the 24-year-old scored seven goals and provided nine assists, meaning he averaged a goal involvement every 3.12 games, and while that's not earth-shatteringly good, it's a rate of return that would be tremendously helpful to have in the side.

Ultimately, while the fee is high, and he might not be the most glamorous of names, Gallagher would be a great signing for Spurs, and thanks to his relentless running and underrated attacking ability, he'd be unreal alongside Maddison.

Tottenham favourites to sign £150k-p/w forward over Arsenal and Liverpool

Tottenham Hotspur are favourites to sign a £150,000-per-week forward over Arsenal and Liverpool this summer, as manager Ange Postecoglou seeks to bring in a star attacking signing ahead of next season.

Spurs aiming to seal deal for another forward after Werner

With just a month remaining of the summer transfer window, and not long to go until the new Premier League season, Spurs supporters will be eager for the Lilywhites to start making headway in their pursuit of another forward.

Tottenham are widely believed to be in the market for a new winger or striker, with Fabrizio Romano recently confirming their interest in Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze and Wolves winger Pedro Neto.

"There is appreciation from Spurs for Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace - and also with all of the other options we always mention here like Pedro Neto, this is absolutely confirmed," said Romano on Playback recently via GiveMeSport.

"So Tottenham like Eze and like Pedro Neto, and they have decided how much they want to spend in that position. So there is internal conversation, but they will bring in one more player in that position for sure - one more offensive player."

Spurs sealed a season-long loan extension for Timo Werner, and the new agreement includes a new option to buy set at around £8.5 million. However, with Bryan Gil out the door and others like Richarlison tipped to leave Tottenham, they will need a quality extra body in that area of the squad.

Eze and Neto are likely to cost premium transfer fees, and chairman Daniel Levy has a history of low-balling moves. A sound alternative to the two Premier League stars could be Italy international and Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, who's been heavily linked with a move to N17 recently.

The £150,000-per-week forward's contract expires next year, and reports claim he could be available for around £25 million as a result. Chiesa bagged 10 goals and three assists in all competitions for the Old Lady last season, and can play all over the pitch as a winger, second striker and centre-forward.

Tottenham favourites to sign Chiesa over Arsenal and Liverpool

According to Tutto Juve, Spurs face competition from Arsenal and Liverpool for his services, but the good news for Postecoglou is that Tottenham are currently favourites to sign Chiesa from Juventus this summer.

The Bianconeri are hoping that the English trio spark an auction for Chiesa, as they look to make as much cash from his sale as possible, rather than see him leave for free.

"He’s a huge player and he’s been linked with a few clubs in England," said pundit Rio Ferdinand in 2021.

"I’m sure they’re thinking ‘why didn’t we get him?’. He’s just a fantastic footballer. The intensity with which he plays with, we saw in the Euros [2020] he was the main goal threat for the Italians who went on to win the tournament.

"It’s his pace, his drive. He’s the one who is the threat, he’s potent, he wants to run in behind."
