Tottenham Star Plays Down Omission

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall has spoken highly ofSpurs boss Roberto De Zerbi, crediting him as one of the key figures behind the club’s survival, despite finding himself on the fringes under the Italian’s stewardship.

The Lilywhites’ Premier League status came under serious threat last season, as they were dragged into a relegation scrap after a difficult start to 2026 in which their first win did not arrive until April.

De Zerbi was brought in to steady the ship and, despite doubts over his credentials, the 47-year-old delivered eleven points from seven matches to secure safety, an achievement former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp said would cement ‘hero status’.

In De Zerbi’s seven games at the helm, Bergvall was handed just one start, coming in the opening fixture, a 1-0 defeat to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, in which he played just over an hour.

Thereafter, he was largely limited to substitute appearances, before being left out entirely of the final two matches as his team-mates secured results to preserve Spurs’ Premier League status.

Bergvall reflected on the situation, recognising the Italian’s role in steering the club to safety and suggesting that the former Marseille manager had done a good job.

The Swedish starlet indicated that the decision to retain the tactician is understandable given his contribution, adding that his spell out of the side was relatively brief.

The 20-year-old said in an interview via Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen: “He has done well.

“He is one of the reasons why we are still in the league.

“It is clear that he will stay.

“It was only a few games [that I was benched].”

Bergvall also addressed summer exit speculation, saying it is not his focus after a tough season and that his attention is on the upcoming World Cup.

“It’s not something I’m focusing on right now.

“It’s been a tough season, as I said.

“But now the focus is on the World Cup and being here.”

The Tottenham Hotspur playmaker is currently in North America with his national team squad, who begin their campaign on Monday against Tunisia.

Sweden face a testing group in Group F, with fixtures against Japan and the Netherlands completing their group-stage schedule.

The 20-year-old, already capped ten times and involved in the friendlies earlier this month against Norway and Greece, will be hoping for a more prominent role under Graham Potter than he experienced under De Zerbi.

Bergvall’s contract in north London runs until 2031, leaving Tottenham with a significant decision over his long-term future, with a loan move also a possibility for next season.

Sweden NT Doctor Makes Kulusevski Admission

Sweden national team doctor Jonas Werner has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur star Dejan Kulusevski’s injury is hard to treat, while keeping ‘high hopes’ to see him return to the pitch soon.

The north London club have experienced two grim seasons back-to-back, escaping relegation by only two points in the recently ended Premier League campaign.

They had some long-term absentees in the shape of James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, and, most notably, Kulusevski.

The Swede suffered a knee injury at the back end of the 2024/25 campaign and it turned out to be a disastrous one.

He could not make a single appearance in the 2025/26 campaign, despite Sweden boss Graham Potter being hopeful that Kulusevski could get fit in time to make it to the World Cup.

The 26-year-old attacking midfielder, though, is nowhere near fit, and the Sweden coach admitted painfully that he had to end the Tottenham star’s World Cup dream for the sake of the team.

Sweden’s national team doctor, Werner, has claimed that the Tottenham star did everything he could to get fit, but clearance could not be given, following his almost one-year absence from football.

“It’s been a long story with Dejan – he’s done everything he can to get ready, but when it came to deciding [if he would be in the squad] he wasn’t”, Werner was quoted as saying by Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen.

“The reason is that he hasn’t played football in a year, but even the medical assessments made this spring have pointed in the direction that he wouldn’t be ready.”

The Sweden national team doctor explained that Kulusevski is trying to recover from a cartilage injury, which is hard to treat.

“Cartilage injuries, like in Dejan’s case, are troublesome.

“They are difficult to treat. Plus, he has it in a place that gets a lot of stress.

“The injury simply hasn’t healed enough to handle that stress.”

However, he is hopeful about seeing the Sweden attacking midfielder get back to action at some point.

Asked if Kulusevski would play football at all again, he replied: “I have high hopes for that and I really hope so.”

Former boss Ange Postecoglou rated Kulusevski very highly during his stint at the north London club and will hope to see the Swede back playing again.

His deal runs for two more years at Tottenham and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to add to his 146 appearances for the Lilywhites.

Roberto De Zerbi and his Tottenham medical team will be doing all they can for Kulusevski this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur have seen off competition from Fenerbahce and Juventus for Andrew Robertson due to the project they presented to the left-back.

Robertson played his final game for Liverpool against Brentford at Anfield on Sunday, bringing an end to his nine-year spell with the Reds.

Some eyebrows have been raised at Liverpool not keeping the Scot.

After making 378 appearances for the Merseyside club, the 32-year-old full-back is leaving the club amid strong interest from several high-profile sides.

Tottenham have been the frontrunners for a while to sign the Scotland international, with the north London club viewing Robertson as a statement signing.

The Lilywhites have faced major competition for the Scot’s signature from Turkish side Fenerbahce, who tabled an offer to the full-back.

Serie A giants Juventus also entered the race for the 32-year-old, as Robertson was presented with ever more appealing options.

Recently, Hull City owner, Acun Ilicali, steered the Tigers into the race, with a real desire to bring Robertson back to the MKM Stadium.

Tottenham though are winning the race and the key reason they have done so has now emerged.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Juve, ‘Tottenham’s project’, along with being able to continue to play in the Premier League ‘have made the difference’ in Spurs’ favour.

Ultimately, Juventus and Fenerbahce were unable to sway Robertson away from a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Juventus missed out on Champions League football this season, but would still have represented an appealing prospect for Robertson.

Fenerbahce meanwhile regularly fight for the Turkish Super Lig title and play in the Champions League.

Tottenham have no European football on the agenda, but Robertson has still picked them.

Juventus To Consider 'Good Offers' For Tottenham Target

Italian giants Juventus will evaluate ‘good offers’ for full-back Andrea Cambiaso, who is being chased by Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs are looking to rejig their squad following a disastrous Premier League campaign, as they were in the conversation to go down on the final day of the season.

Roberto De Zerbi has done well to keep the north Londoners safe and is expected to get the full backing of the board in the transfer window.

However, former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara wants to see a big change at the club, as he urged the club hierarchy to sack sporting director Johan Lange.

Tottenham have had issues at left-back despite having the likes of Destiny Udogie and Djed Spence, and they are also working to sign Andy Robertson, but face competition for his signature.

Juventus defender Cambiaso has been linked with Tottenham, along with their Premier League rivals Liverpool.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool side are losing Robertson, and following an underwhelming debut campaign from Milos Kerkez, may move for another left-back.

They are not the only clubs to show interest in the 26-year-old Italian, as the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Inter Milan and Napoli are in the race.

Now, according to Italian journalist Mirko Di Natale, Juventus will assess ‘good offers’ for the Italy left-back in the upcoming window.

Cambiaso is a key player for the Serie A giants, who are seeking offers around €40m to consider letting him go.

Tottenham first showed interest in him back in 2023 and may well be hoping to secure him ahead of the new term.

However, if Spurs are able to get their hands on experienced Robertson, who Hull City want to bring back, they would have significant depth in that position.

And compared to other clubs in the race for Cambiaso, Tottenham are the only club who do not have Champions League football to offer; Spurs have no European football to offer to the Italy international.

His deal runs for three more years at the Allianz Stadium and the Old Lady may well want a bidding war for the in-demand left-back.

Radu Dragusin’s agent, Florin Maena, visited RB Leipzig last month amid the German side’s interest in the Tottenham Hotspur defender and ‘was impressed’.

The Bucharest-born defensive talent began his early footballing years in Romania and moved to Italy in 2018, when Juventus signed him.

Igor Tudor admitted that Dragusin caught his eye at Juventus and feels he is a quality player.

After spending five years at the Old Lady, he spent a season at Serie A club Genoa, impressing at Il Grifone.

The Italian club did not want to sell the Romanian, but he did eventually join Tottenham in the 2024 winter transfer window.

Spurs paid a sizeable fee of €25m for the Romania international, who is yet to cement his place in the starting eleven at the Premier League club.

He suffered an ACL injury in the winter of 2025, which kept him out of action for almost a year, and he has found it difficult to get back into the team.

Dragusin came back from his injury in December and the defender’s agent claimed that he looked a lot faster and more flexible.

His game time has gone down significantly at the north London club, as Roberto De Zerbi handed him two minutes of league minutes in Tottenham’s final eight games.

The Romania star wants to play more regularly and as many as three clubs have recently shown interest in the 24-year-old central defender.

RB Leipzig are one of the clubs who want Dragusin, and according to Romanian outlet Fanatik, the Spurs defender’s agent visited Die Roten Bullen in April.

It has been suggested that Maena ‘visited to see the club’s conditions’ and ‘was impressed’.

RB Leipzig developed the likes of Ibrahima Konate, Mohamed Simakan, Josko Gvardiol and Dayot Upamecano in the last few years, and Dragusin could have the chance to become a top defender if he makes a move to the Bundesliga outfit.

The Germans are prepared to pay €20m for him.

However, his former side, Juventus, are keen, alongside Serie A giants AC Milan, who want to bring him back to the Italian top flight ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Dragusin’s deal runs for four more years at Spurs, who could look to move him on in the coming weeks and months amid plenty of interest in him.
