Fixture: Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal

Competition: Premier League

Kick-off: 16:30 UK time

Igor Tudor has selected his Tottenham lineup vs Arsenal for this afternoon’s north London derby clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League.

Spurs pulled the plug on Thomas Frank as boss with relegation worries growing and Tudor is the interim boss, being given a fire-fighting job until the summer.

Tottenham have backed him with additions to his staff and the Croatian has a reputation as someone who can make an immediate impact at clubs.

Tudor has walked into the job knowing some members of the squad, notably Radu Dragusin and Cristian Romero.

He has inherited a side sitting 16th in the Premier League standings and with just 29 points from 26 games so far.

Playing Arsenal, who are going for the Premier League title, looks like the worst start for Tudor, but the new boss has insisted it is an ‘amazing’ game to start with.

The earlier game between the two teams this season saw Arsenal thrash Tottenham 4-1 and the Gunners know that, with Manchester City hot on their heels, they cannot afford to drop many more points.

Tottenham remain without their long term injury absentees, but Dominic Solanke returned to training after a throat problem and is on the bench.

Guglielmo Vicario is in goal in the Tottenham lineup vs Arsenal this afternoon, while in defence Tudor picks Archie Gray, Radu Dragusin, Micky van de Ven and Djed Spence.

In midfield, Spurs deploy Joao Palhinha, Pape Matar Sarr, Yves Bissouma and Conor Gallagher, with Xavi Simons looking to create chances for the lone striker Randal Kolo Muani.

Tudor is likely to need to use his substitutes throughout the 90 minutes and options to change his Tottenham lineup vs Arsenal today include Dominic Solanke and Souza.

Tottenham Hotspur Lineup vs Arsenal

Vicario, Gray, Dragusin, Van de Ven, Spence, Bissouma, Gallagher, Palhinha, Sarr, Simons, Kolo Muani

Substitutes: Austin, Richarlison, Tel, Solanke, Souza, Olusesi, Williams-Barnett, Rowswell, Wilson

Gala Boss Eager For Liverpool Or Spurs

Description

Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk is eager to face Tottenham Hotspur or Liverpool after hopefully completing the job against Juventus in the Champions League playoff round.

Juventus were handed a resounding 5-2 thrashing at Rams Park in Istanbul, as Galatasaray put five goals past the Bianconeri for only the second time in their European history, after a 7-0 defeat against Wiener Sport Club in the 1958/59 European Cup.

The result means that Galatasaray have one foot in the Round of 16, where they will take on either Liverpool or Spurs.

Buruk, already eyeing up the next round, noted that the Turkish club have positive memories against both Premier League sides.

Hoping that they can get the job done in the second leg against Juventus, Buruk expressed confidence for the next round, reiterating that they have already beaten Liverpool and Tottenham over the last couple of years.

Buruk was quoted as saying by Turkish outlet HT Spor: “I hope we knock out Juventus and then face Tottenham or Liverpool.

“Last season, we played against Tottenham and beat them.

“This year, we also beat Liverpool.

“I don’t know which one will come, but we have memories against both teams.”

Galatasaray beat Liverpool 1-0 in the Champions League’s league phase this season, for which a Turkish daily produced a commemorative poster, while eventual winners Tottenham were beaten 3-2 in the Europa League last campaign.

Juventus have a mountain to climb if they are to prevent Galatasaray from becoming the first Turkish side since 2014 to enter the Round of 16.

Galatasaray were deserved winners as they came back from 2-1 down to not only secure a win, but also establish daylight for the second leg by taking advantage of Juventus going down to ten men as they became the first Turkish side to score five times in a Champions League game.

Both Liverpool and Tottenham have had relatively solid European campaigns despite their domestic woes.

Liverpool’s title defence was termed ‘absolutely disgraceful’ by former top flight defender Jason Cundy in November, while they have an ongoing injury crisis at the back.

Tottenham have been flirting with relegation, with Igor Tudor coming in on a short-term deal to replace the sacked Thomas Frank.

Jamie O’Hara declared that the ‘standards are shocking’ at Spurs, while first-team coach John Heitinga resigned despite having the option to stay on to help Tudor.

Galatasaray will feel confident of further progression in the Champions League, given their recent record and their potential opponents’ domestic struggles.

Whiteman Tells Aston Villa And Spurs Right Call Made

Preston North End skipper Ben Whiteman has pointed to Real Madrid to claim that Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur made a good decision in sending Lewis Dobbin and Alfie Devine to Deepdale on loan.

Paul Heckingbottom’s team knocked on the doors of two Premier League sides in the summer and managed to leave with attacking midfielder Devine and forward Dobbin.

Tottenham have seen Devine handed regular game time, with 32 Championship outings so far, while Aston Villa’s Dobbin has been trusted in an unfamiliar role, adding to his versatility.

They have made as many as 21 goal contributions between them, each earning praise from the Preston manager Heckingbottom on different occasions.

Dobbin was deemed a ‘diligent professional’ by the boss, while Devine was praised for being composed and having the ability to create chances from midfield.

Now club skipper Whiteman has come out to laud their qualities, insisting that Devine and Dobbin are a pleasure to work with and he is hoping North End can keep at least one.

“It has definitely been a pleasure to work with those two and hopefully one of them signs, but we will wait and see”, he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

“But they have been a credit to themselves.”

Whiteman also took time to cite the example of two former Preston players, one Real Madrid star, Alvaro Carreras, and the other, Chelsea striker Liam Delap, to drive home the fact that Deepdale is definitely the place to grow as a loan player.

“The loan lads that come in normally go on to do really well.

“We’ve got a lad playing at Real Madrid and we’ve got a lad playing at Chelsea.

“So if you are looking at somewhere to send someone on loan, this is definitely the place.”

It remains to be seen if Preston will attempt to keep hold of either Dobbin or Devine, or both, when the summer transfer window rolls around.

Aston Villa and Tottenham are though likely to be delighted seeing two of their prospects playing regular football for a club competing at the top end of the Championship.

North End remain firmly in the mix for a playoff spot.

Igor Tudor 'Recognised Immediately' Tottenham Star's Skills

‘I Recognised In Him Immediately’ – Igor Tudor Rates Tottenham Star - Inside Futbol
Description

Tottenham Hotspur interim boss Igor Tudor has insisted he recognised at once that Radu Dragusin had talent when he worked with the Spurs defender when he was at Juventus.

Tudor has been handed a contract until the end of the season at Tottenham and tasked with keeping the north London side in the Premier League after their decision to appoint Thomas Frank last summer backfired spectacularly.

The Croatian heads into the Tottenham job with a big squad to choose from when it comes to picking his team and centre-back Dragusin is someone he is aware of; he has also been able to add to the backroom staff.

Tottenham won the race to sign Dragusin from Genoa and even got the Romanian despite offering him less money than Bayern Munich.

Tudor was asked if he worked with Dragusin when he came through at Juventus, with the boss admitting he could tell at once that the defender had talent.

“Yes, he came out as a young player in that period when I have been there”, Tudor said at a press conference (9:22).

“I recognised in him immediately the skills. He was known already when he was young.

“He is still young, but not like he was four or five years ago.”

Club played for Juventus Sampdoria Salernitana Genoa Tottenham Hotspur Clubs Radu Dragusin has played for

Dragusin’s move to Tottenham has not gone according to plan though, with injuries and a lack of playing time making themselves felt.

In January, he was linked with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Roma and AC Milan both showing keen interest in signing him.

Roma sporting director Frederic Massara pushed for a move in the latter stages of the transfer window and then the Milan giants joined them.

AC Milan went in to make enquiries, but nothing eventually materialised and he stayed put to keep fighting for a place in the starting eleven.

He could yet be in line to play his first game under Tudor this weekend against league leaders Arsenal in the absence of skipper Cristian Romero, someone the Croatian also knows.

Romero was also at Juventus with Tudor, but the 47-year-old sent him out on loan to Atalanta, something that still remains at the back of Romero’s mind, and the 27-year-old has reminded him of that.

“Yes, yes, yes. I sent him out, I sent him to Atalanta”, Tudor added.

“No, no, he told me that now ‘you sent me out!’ I said, no, no, no.

“He got Atalanta and then he made his fantastic career, and what he became.”

Tudor will need to use all his experienced to stop the rot at Tottenham and the jury is out on whether the Champions League will be a help or a hindrance when it comes to getting Premier League results.

Tottenham's New Faces On Igor Tudor's Coaching Staff Profiled

Tottenham's New Faces On Igor Tudor's Coaching Staff Profiled - Inside Futbol
Description

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed additions to the coaching staff of interim boss Igor Tudor, with Spurs aiming to support the Croatian as he bids to see off the threat of relegation from the Premier League.

John Heitinga has notably departed the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, despite having the option to stay, and joins Justin Cochrane and Chris Haslam in leaving Spurs following the sacking of Thomas Frank.

Andreas Georgson, Cameron Campbell and Fabian Otte, along with duo of Stuart Lewis and Dean Brill, who were promoted from their roles in the Academy last summer, remain with Spurs while Tudor will bring in Bruno Saltor, Tomislav Rogic, Riccardo Ragnacci and Ivan Javorcic to complete his boot room.

We take a look at the new support staff joining the ranks at Hotspur Way, who Tudor will need to help his time at Tottenham become a success.

Bruno Saltor – Assistant Coach

Brighton legend Saltor began his coaching career with the Seagulls in 2019, immediately after his player career drew to a close. Assisting Graham Potter at Brighton, Saltor followed Potter to Tottenham’s London rivals Chelsea and West Ham United. Saltor managed Chelsea for a single match against Liverpool, after Potter’s departure and before Frank Lampard took over as interim manager.

Saltor has touched upon mental health and disclosed a dark phase during which period he struggled mentally in his final year at Valencia as a player. A strong advocate for embracing vulnerabilities, Saltor has said ‘a healed human being is much more beautiful than a human being who has never suffered.’

The Spaniard has also discussed the importance of mental clarity for a footballer, for only that can allow a player to be in a flow state and play instinctively as, if they take their time to think and ponder, it is ‘too late’ in football.

Tudor, who has been in management since 2013 and has a ‘hard man’ image, is believed to have been brought in to instil discipline in the Spurs squad. Saltor might be prove to be the ideal counterweight to Tudor, as Spurs’ stars develop holistically with both in tandem.

Xavi Simons, who was said to need an adaptation period by Frank, and Mathys Tel, who finds himself in a similar predicament to Saltor at Valencia with regards to displeasure regarding game time, look set to be obvious beneficiaries through time with the Spaniard.

Saltor and Tudor will be working together for the first time.

Tomislav Rogic – Goalkeeping Coach

Rogic’s coaching career began under Tudor at Hajduk Split, with Tudor also taking up his first managerial role. The pair’s paths diverged, with Rogic going on to coach clubs in Ukraine, Russia, Belgium and China and the national side of India, before the pair reunited at Lazio. Rogic followed Tudor to Juventus in 2025.

There is also the small matter of Fabian Otte remaining with Spurs, and the risk of two goalkeeping coaches undermining each other. Tudor should look to build a viable working environment and ensure that disagreements are kept private.

Riccardo Ragnacci – Physical Coach

Ragnacci began his coaching career with Cesena, before proceeding to perform similar roles with a host of Italian clubs such as Cagliari, Bologna, Perugia, Vicenza and Hellas Verona. It was at Hellas Verona that Ragnacci’s and Tudor’s paths first crossed, with the Croat leading the club to a ninth-placed finish in Serie A in 2022.

While Ragnacci stayed on for a further year with Hellas Verona after Tudor’s departure to Marseille, and worked with Lecce and Empoli as Tudor was helming Lazio, the pair reunited at Juventus.

Ragnacci has followed Tudor for the first time and his role with Tottenham will also be his first assignment outside of his native Italy.

Ivan Javorcic* – Assistant Coach

Javorcic and Tudor’s playing careers overlapped, with either man born a year apart. Not only did they play from the mid-nineties to the mid-noughties, Javorcic and Tudor spent their playing careers predominantly in Italy.

It was at Brescia that Javorcic began his managerial career, the club at which he experienced his pinnacle as a player appointing him in a caretaker role. Javorcic went on to manage Mantova, Pro Patria, Sudtirol and Venezia, and guided Pro Patria and Sudtirol to promotion to Serie C and Serie B respectively, the latter being the first in that club’s history.

After an unsuccessful spell with Venezia, Javorcic joined Tudor at Lazio, before following him to Juventus.

*Javorcic has not yet been confirmed as part of Tudor’s staff, though his appointment has been widely expected.

The right backup for Tudor?

Tottenham, who have a fond connection with Croatia through Luka Modric, Vedran Corluka, Niko Kranjcar and Ivan Perisic, will hope that their fellow countrymen, Tudor, Javorcic and Rogic, can in due course, foster a similar sense of endearment with the fans.

Randal Kolo Muani, who scored five times in 11 appearances under Tudor at Juventus and was a significant bone of contention between the manager and the board over the summer, will hope to finally break his Premier League duck under the new manager.

Tudor will want to improve Cristian Romero’s disciplinary record, with the Argentine having picked up six red cards since his arrival, and the soothing words of the backroom staff could be key to helping in that regard.

Tudor has been nicknamed a ‘un traghettatore’, or a ferryman in English, for the jobs he has done over the years, guiding clubs in troubled waters to safety. Spurs fans will surely hope that Tudor can repeat the same in north London.

Djurgarden sporting director Bosse Andersson has insisted that he is delighted with the club’s former talent Lucas Bergvall, stressing that he is impressed with the midfielder’s impact so early at Tottenham Hotspur.

The recently turned 20-year-old is considered a top talent and La Liga giants Barcelona were very keen on him, but he chose Spurs over the Catalan outfit.

The north Londoners paid £8.5m to the Djurgarden for Begvall, who officially joined the Premier League side in the summer of 2024 with a host of performance-related bonuses in his contract.

Bergvall joined Spurs during Ange Postecoglou’s reign at the club and the Australian showed trust in him early doors.

The Sweden international has already made 71 appearances for the London club and last year, Andersson confirmed that Djurgarden received all performance bonuses in his deal.

Bregvall’s versatility has made him a key player in N17, as he can play in a host of positions in the engine room.

In the most recent transfer window, the 20-year-old was widely linked with clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea and Aston Villa, and Andersson is not surprised to see big clubs showing interest in him.

Club Years Brommapojkarna 2021-2022 Djurgarden 2023-2024 Tottenham Hotspur 2024- Lucas Bergvall’s career history

Djurgarden sporting director Andersson is delighted with Bergvall’s meteoric rise at Spurs, stating his journey has been ‘incredible’.

“It [the links with big clubs] doesn’t surprise me. Nothing about him surprises anyone”, Andersson told Swedish outlet FotbollDirekt about the 20-year-old.

“Of course he’s a topic of discussion for coaches at big clubs.

“It’s incredible to see what’s happening to him and the journey he’s on, which began at Djurgarden.”

The 57-year-old emphasised how quickly Bergvall has made an impact in north London, also pointing out that it is evident he enjoys playing at Spurs.

“But to do what he does so quickly to go from the Allsvenskan to the Premier League as he has done and in the way he has done it – that’s huge.

“It’s also noticeable that he enjoys it and has fun”, Andersson added.

Bergvall is currently out with an ankle injury that he sustained last month against West Ham United, but it has been suggested that the Sweden star is expected to be back next month.

Spurs, though, put themselves in a strong position amid interest in Bergvall by offering him a new deal last year, which keeps him at the club until the summer of 2031.

New interim Tottenham boss Igor Tudor will be looking forward to having the young midfielder available, as the north Londoners are sitting as low as 16th in the Premier League.

Borussia Monchengladbach are holding ‘initial discussions behind the scenes’ about how they can keep hold of Tottenham Hotspur loan star Kota Takai.

Tottenham have concentrated on recruiting young players from around the world to build a strong foundation for the future.

They have sent several of their highly rated starlets out on loan to see them grow with proper game time, with two top defensive prospects, Takai and Luka Vuskovic, currently on loan in the Bundesliga.

Vuskovic has been making headlines with his performances for Hamburg, who want to keep him, but Japanese centre-back Takai is also doing his job well at Gladbach.

Last summer, Spurs signed Takai from Kawasaki Frontale after agreeing on a fee with the Japanese club, tying him on a five-year deal.

In the recently ended winter window, Takai was loaned out to Bundesliga outfit Gladbach for the second half of the current campaign.

Gladbach’s sporting director was delighted with Takai’s arrival at the club and he was hailed for his strength and pace.

Takai has already played close to 250 minutes in Germany, after he was not given any game time at Tottenham.

Die Fohlen are liking what they have seen of Takai and have started discussing the possibility of keeping hold of the defender, according to German daily the Rheinische Post.

It is suggested that ‘initial discussions behind the scenes’ are happening to make sure Takai remains at Gladbach.

There has been conflicting talk over whether Gladbach have an option to buy, with it now suggested that the 21-year-old’s option to buy is ‘in the high single-digit millions’, and the Bundesliga club are unlikely to meet those demands.

It has been suggested that the Japanese centre-back is feeling at home at the Rhine-based club, who are looking to facilitate another loan.

How easily Tottenham can be convinced to play ball remains to be seen and it is likely whoever is their permanent manager in the summer will have a big say.

Gladbach currently sit 13th in the Bundesliga table and another campaign of regular exposure to the German top flight could benefit Takai.

Boss Reveals Abbott Instructions

Description

Alex Pantling/Getty Images

Mansfield Town boss Nigel Clough has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are guiding the Stags to manage George Abbott’s minutes, stressing that the League One club want to see the midfielder stay fit.

The Islington-born talent joined the north London club’s youth academy early doors, when he was only seven years old.

Abbott is highly rated at Spurs and made his only appearance for the first team three years ago against Leeds United in a Premier League game.

He is currently on his third loan spell away from Tottenham, as he made a fresh loan move to League One club Mansfield Town on deadline day of the most recent transfer window.

Fellow Spurs loanee Oliver Irow is at Mansfield and Abbott admitted that his conversation with the winger influenced that move.

The Spurs talent was on loan at Wycombe Wanderers in the first half of the season, which was cut short due to injury issues, and he is still dealing with those.

Clough revealed that Spurs asked them to play Abbott for around 30 minutes against Peterborough United last week, which they did, and he still felt uneasiness in his thigh.

He made it clear that the Premier League side are guiding his injury, and stressed that his minutes will be managed carefully as Mansfield too want the Tottenham starlet to stay fit for the rest of the campaign.

“He just felt his thigh after the 30 minutes – he is obviously coming back from an injury-hit first half of the season”, Clough told Mansfield’s media (0:38) when he was asked about Abbott’s availability.

“He had a thigh injury early on and had a groin injury.

“So, we are very much being guided by Spurs in terms of how much he can do, and they said, ‘listen, 30 minutes is all he can do’ [against Peterborough].

“We did that on Tuesday, and he still felt it a little bit.

“So, we will make sure that he is right before we involve him now.

“He was right, but unfortunately, he just felt it, I think, coming back into a little bit of intensive training after his injuries.

“But it is important that he is right for the last two three months of the season.”

Abbott scored in his only appearance for Mansfield Town against Posh last week in a 2-1 loss, after he came off the bench.

Last season, he was on loan at Notts County, and former EFL winger Adrian Clarke dubbed him a player to keep an eye on.

‘A New Forecast’ – Tottenham Hotspur Star Receives Injury Return Boost - Inside Futbol
Description

Michael Campanella/Getty Images

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall could be back in action as early as 26th March for Sweden’s World Cup playoff clash against Ukraine, following ‘a new forecast’ on his injury.

The 20-year-old picked up the knock in late January during the Lilywhites’ 2-0 Champions League victory over Borussia Dortmund, forcing him off the pitch.

With most of Spurs’ midfield sidelined, Bergvall had been forced to play through a previous ankle issue sustained against Bournemouth, which was then aggravated by the Dortmund clash.

Originally expected to be out for three months, recent developments suggest the Swedish midfielder could make a return sooner than anticipated.

According to Swedish outlet FotbollDirekt, Bergvall could be back to full match fitness as early as 26th March, just in time for Sweden’s World Cup playoff clash against Ukraine.

He has recently been able to come out of the plastic boot he has been wearing and the prognosis for the comeback is now around six weeks.

The 20-year-old has featured in 26 matches for Tottenham this season, contributing five goal involvements.

Sweden legend Mikael Lustig has praised the 20-year-old, saying the youngster has impressed at Tottenham and deserves a spot in the national team, either as a starter or off the bench.

England based Jacob Widell Zetterstrom Viktor Johansson Victor Lindelof Gabriel Gudmundsson Emil Krafth Yasin Ayari Alexander Isak Players based in England in last Sweden squad

Bergvall, capped six times for Sweden yet mostly sidelined under Jon Dahl Tomasson, could finally get his chance to shine with Graham Potter at the helm.

His fellow Swedish teammate Dejan Kulusevski, whom Bergvall said would offer a sense of security upon his arrival at N17 in 2024, has also been sidelined all season, yet to feature in a single match, with no confirmed return date.

Potter recently explained that in his view, there was time for both Kulusevski and Alexander Isak to be back for the World Cup playoff clash.

Sweden have missed three of the last four World Cups, last appearing in a major tournament at Euro 2020, and will hope to add Bergvall to their squad as they aim for two consecutive playoff wins in March to reach the World Cup.

Tottenham will also want Bergvall back and fit soon, for reasons of their own, as they fight to survive in the Premier League.
