Tottenham Hotspur ‘will be making a big move’ for United States attacker Folarin Balogun ‘after the World Cup‘.

Balogun came through the Arsenal youth system, and following loan spells at Middlesbrough as well as Reims, permanently joined Monaco in the summer of 2023.

The 24-year-old forward scored 19 goals and chipped in with five assists in 43 games in the recent campaign, helping Monaco secure European football with a seventh place finish in Ligue 1.

Tottenham got an up close look at Balogun during the campaign, as he played against Spurs in the Champions League league phase.

Balogun, born to Nigerian parents and brought up in England, is currently starring for the United States at the World Cup and so far has made three goal contributions in two games.

Spurs have been very busy in the summer transfer window, having already signed Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Jan Paul van Hecke to strengthen the defence for next season.

Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali are poised to arrive to add to midfield, but attack is also a focus and the north London club have been namechecked in the race to sign Balogun this summer.

According to Nigerian journalist Buchi Laba, Tottenham ‘will be making a big move’ to sign Balogun ‘after the World Cup’.

However, Spurs could face competition from French outfit Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea for the former Arsenal star.

Manager Roberto De Zerbi will want to add more firepower to his side, especially after Spurs registered just 48 goals in the league, and with the departure of PSG loanee Randal Kolo Muani.

The Lilywhites have backed De Zerbi in the transfer market this summer and show no sign of slowing down.

Balogun still has two years remaining on his contract with Monaco, but with substantial interest from several clubs, a move away this summer could be on the cards.

However, with the 24-year-old currently being involved in the World Cup, a decision on his future will most likely be made after the conclusion of the tournament.

Spurs could face tough competition from PSG, who can provide Balogun with Champions League football and also an opportunity to extend his stay in Ligue 1.

Balogun though may well ask how much game time he would get at the Parc des Princes as part of a star-studded squad.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to lose the services of defender Luka Vuskovic, with a deal to sell the centre-back now agreed with Brighton.

Spurs are set to splash £85m on signing midfielder Mateus Fernandes from West Ham, which comes hot on the heels of a £52m capture of Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton.

The north London side are also still trying to do a deal to land Sandro Tonali and are waiting for a final answer from Newcastle United on their latest proposal.

Bringing cash in will also be a requirement as Spurs try to balance their spending and Croatia defender Vuskovic is being sold.

Brighton have failed with bids for the defender this summer, but now a breakthrough has been made, though Spurs have been careful to include a sell-on clause and first refusal if he is sold by the Seagulls in future.

Journalist James Olly wrote on X: “Brighton have agreed a £50m deal with Tottenham for Luka Vuskovic.

“Deal comprises £46m + £4m in add-ons.

“Spurs also have a 20 per cent sell-on clause and matching rights on a possible future transfer.”

For Vuskovic, who was on loan at German side Hamburg last season, playing football on a regular basis in the new campaign has been on his mind.

With Marcos Senesi joining Van Hecke through the door and adding to the range of centre-backs Tottenham have, Vuskovic opened the door to a move to Brighton.

The switch should make sure that the Croatian gets the first team football he feels he needs to continue his development, while having the opportunity to test himself in the Premier League.

Spurs’ sell-on clause and matching deal rights though ensure that they will continue to maintain an interest in the defender’s development over the coming years.

The move will not find favour with former Tottenham defender Ramon Vega, who dubbed the idea of Spurs selling Vuskovic this summer ‘crazy’.

Vuskovic shone brightly on loan at Hamburg last term and questions could soon be asked of Spurs if he takes that form into the Premier League.

Manor Solomon’s option to buy expires tonight, but Fiorentina could look to reopen talks with Tottenham Hotspur for the winger on favourable financial terms.

Spurs have easily been the most active Premier League side in the summer transfer window so far, following their back-to-back 17th-place league finishes.

They have bolstered their backline massively as Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul Van Heck have already arrived.

The north London club are also strongly keen on Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali, having taken big steps towards the Italian midfielder, while a fee has been agreed for Mateus Fernandes.

Spurs are showing that they are ambitious about the club’s future, but will need to focus on departures as well, with Roberto De Zerbi unlikely to want a bloated squad, especially with no European football to play.

Solomon is widely expected to move on from Tottenham this summer, but his destination remains unclear for now.

Last season, Solomon was on loan at Serie A club Fiorentina and his loan at the Florence club expires later tonight.

La Viola have a €10m option to buy the 26-year-old wide attacker and the Italian club want Tottenham to give them a ‘discount’ for any deal to happen.

Fiorentina will let the clause expire tonight, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport (via Firenzeviola), but that does not mean a deal will not happen.

La Viola remain open to negotiating a lower price for Spurs for the wide-man.

Ex-Spurs deal-maker Fabio Paratici is Fiorentina’s sporting director and due to his past relationship with the north Londoners he may fancy his chances of doing a deal.

Solomon joined Spurs three years ago and he still has two years left on his current deal.

With Fiorentina letting the clause expire, the door is open for other clubs to come in for Solomon.
