Tottenham could dip their toes in the January transfer window for a new creative midfield force

Tottenham Hotspur might need to do some business in January if they are to compete for a top-four place this term.

The north Londoners enjoyed a productive summer transfer window, reinforcing the squad that finished fifth in Ange Postecoglou’s first season. However, results have not gone their way and Spurs continue to lag behind.

Indeed, Ange Postecoglou’s side are languishing 10th in the Premier League table, and improvements are certainly required to boost their top-four hopes in the second half of the campaign.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Football London correspondent Alasdair Gold has been discussing some of Tottenham’s January transfer plans. He says Postecoglou would love to bring a new creative midfielder to White Hart Lane if the opportunity arises, although the journalist is not sure a move will take place during the mid-season trading period.

Chelsea outcast Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has emerged as a target for Spurs. The creative midfielder has struggled to make an impact for Chelsea since his summer move from Leicester City, with the 26-year-old finding himself on the fringes of the first team at the moment.

Regardless of being a highly regarded talent and playing under Enzo Maresca during their time at Leicester City, Dewsbury-Hall has struggled to secure a regular spot in the Blues’ midfield. Aston Villa are also showing interest in the ex-Foxes’ star, so the Lilywhites will need to act quickly if they genuinely want the services of Dewsbury-Hall.

LOSC Lille midfielder Angel Gomes is also on the North Londoners’ radar. The diminutive England international has played some impressive football, showcasing his technical ability and vision in Ligue 1, and has continued to attract attention from European elites, including Tottenham, who are among those keen to secure his signature.

The 24-year-old’s contract at Lille expires at the end of the season (Transfermarkt), so he’d be available for a cut-price fee in January. Lille certainly will want to cash Gomes in rather than see him walk away for nothing in the summer. This will give Daniel Levy a great opportunity to sign the highly talented Gomes and supposedly fulfil one of Big Ange’s winter targets.

With James Maddison struggling for form, the idea of a new creative midfield option could be something Tottenham could explore in the New Year.

Tottenham’s Van de Ven told he would ‘walk into’ the Manchester City team

Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven has made the headlines this season for his immaculate performances in the backline next to Cristian Romero. And while Spurs have far from a great defensive record in the Premier League, it is the Dutchman who has earned widespread praise over recent months.

His exploits in north London have also linked Van de Ven with a move to Real Madrid, though Tottenham value him very highly and are unlikely to let go of him any time soon. The Whites are also keen on signing Cristian Romero but Spurs’ stance with the Argentinian international is the same as with Van de Ven, and so the duo looks likely to be at Hotspur Way for a long time.

Jamie O’Hara and Dean Saunders spoke about the 23-year-old in a recent talkSPORT podcast, in which the former believes VDV would ‘walk into’ Manchester City’s backline. Saunders did not seem to agree. Here is the full conversation between the two pundits, as has been decoded by Caught Offside.

Jamie O’Hara: “I think Van de Ven is a world-class player.”

Dean Saunders: “Van de Ven? He has had one season playing in the high line. World class? Van de Ven?”

Jamie O’Hara: “Van de Ven is world-class.”

Dean Saunders: “He ain’t getting in Manchester City’s team. He is not getting in Liverpool’s.”

Jamie O’Hara: “What are you talking about? He would walk straight into Manchester City’s team. He walks into it.”

Micky van de Ven’s stock has been on the rise for quite some time now, but it seems like too early a claim by O’Hara for him to ease into Manchester City’s line-up. From a Tottenham point of view, VDV has put every step right but with perennial champions Manchester City requiring a lot more, there is perhaps some more time until the former Wolfsburg defender can be a regular for them.

His positioning and composure on the ball some times leaves a bit to be desired. With that said, his mentality to be a part of the dressing room still needs to be tested as he has not won any major accolade in his club or international career so far. Van de Ven, however, remains a defender with a very high ceiling and Ange Postecoglou is absolutely the right man for him to hit that level.

Junai Byfield trains with Tottenham Hotspur’s first team

Tottenham Hotspur are in full preparation for the visit to Manchester City as they look to compound the misery on Pep Guardiola by handing him a fifth straight defeat in all competitions, whilst also alleviating some pressure off themselves having lost two successive games on the trot.

Though a number of players who had national duty since Spurs’ defeat to Ipswich Town are soon going to return to international duty, a bright young talent from the club’s youth ranks has been training with the first team. Junai Byfield is the teenager that Ange Postecoglou has called up.

Speaking to Tottenham Hotspur News, Byfield’s ceiling was praised by John Wenham, who had some promising comments to make about the Spurs youngster. He said the following words.

“I think Byfield is right up there in terms of his ceiling. He is absolutely unbelievable. In his most recent outing, he scored a really good goal, which is no surprise as he used to be a striker when he first started playing, so it isn’t unusual that he still has that finishing ability. However, his all-round game is just immense, he has got every attribute going which is really exciting.”

Ange Postecoglou has taken the development of the academy stars very seriously in the 15 months he has spent in north London, with a new talent having the opportunity to train with the first team during the international breaks.

Why Tottenham Hotspur Made a Bold Change to Their Iconic Logo

Tottenham’s league form might remain as inconsistent as ever, but at least they’re sticking to one decision: updating their iconic badge. The refreshed logo, featuring the familiar cockerel perched on a football, offers a subtle change. Fans will be hoping the team’s performances on the pitch can eventually reflect the same sense of refinement.

Supporters can rest assured that the iconic cockerel perched on a football isn’t going anywhere. However, the crest has undergone a slight tweak. Since 2006, the words “Tottenham Hotspur” have appeared beneath the logo, but the club has decided to remove them moving forward.

Just as the logo was changed, Tottenham needs to change their ‘Spursy’ antics

Tottenham’s decision to tweak their crest is part of a broader effort to rebrand the club digitally. Their website provides more details about the other changes being made to refresh their image. In the announcement regarding the updated crest, the club stated:

“The world-famous cockerel stands prouder than ever and is supported by a silhouette version, along with the reintroduction of the THFC monogram and new colours, patterns and hallmarks linked to the Club’s heritage.”

Spurs aren’t the first Premier League club to tweak their identity this season, with Liverpool also updating their iconic badge ahead of the 2024/25 campaign to better cater to an online audience. However, Tottenham’s change is more subtle, meaning it’s unlikely to stir too much negative reaction from fans, as the core elements of the original badge remain intact.

Spurs have positioned themselves as pioneers in modernising their brand, first updating their badge back in 2006. The club’s website proudly claims: “A Club of firsts, Tottenham Hotspur took an unprecedented step in 2006 to modernise its identity by simplifying the badge around its world-famous cockerel, which has since stood alone in minimalistic, iconic fashion that other clubs are now following.”

Tottenham confirm major injury setback as Postecoglou’s woes continue

Tottenham Hotspur confirm injury layoff for Wilson Odobert

Tottenham Hotspur have had a good share of injury problems this season, especially in the offensive department. All of Dominic Solanke, Richarlison, Son Heung-min and Wilson Odobert have been taken to the treatment table at some point this season. While some issues have been more minor than others, Odobert is particularly struggling.

In a recent tweet, Tottenham confirmed that the 19-year-old underwent surgery to rectify his injury at the earliest time possible. Having undergone the medical procedure, Spurs said that the player will be under the watchful eyes of their medical team before slowly being reintegrated into training and thereafter into match action. The club did not provide an estimate of his absence.

According to Transfermarkt, Odobert had a hamstring injury and has more recently struggled with thigh problems. The French teenager has not played a game for Tottenham since September 19th and having undergone a surgical procedure just a couple of days back, it is fair to say that he might be missing from action for at least three to four more weeks, if not longer.

Odobert has yet to score or assist a goal for Ange Postecoglou’s side since joining from Burnley. However, his absence is a major hit on the manager’s squad depth which has already been compromised by the board’s lack of fruitful activity in the transfer window. The forward could have been of importance in the cup competitions at least, if not in the Premier League.

It remains to be seen how much time exactly he will miss but Odobert’s absence could affect Tottenham in December given the festive fixture calendar at the end of the year. Brennan Johnson might be overworked on the right flank with games every few days though at the same time, Postecoglou is not likely to risk his young prodigy’s fitness either. Moreover, it will be interesting to see what Spurs’ plans are for January’s transfer window as well if their injury woes continue.

Tottenham Hotspur pondering over a surprise swoop for PL midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a potential return for Harry Winks

Tottenham Hotspur might need to do some business in January if they are to contend for a top-four place as recent fixtures have shown some gaping holes in the squad which need to be resolved.

Having said that, Spurs are keen on sanctioning the return of Harry Winks from Leicester City, according to Caught Offside. The midfielder departed north London just last year but having performed impressively with the Foxes, Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to pay as much as £32 million to bring him back in 2025.

The swoop back to Hotspur Way for Winks would see Tottenham lose over £20 million in the midfielder’s transaction, which pretty much sums up how the club has been run under Daniel Levy. On a side note, it is also debatable whether or not the Lilywhites actually need a midfielder or if they must focus on signing a central defender and a couple of attackers.

Tottenham have a host of good midfielders at their disposal and Ange Postecoglou has been able to rotate his engine room very comfortably in the Europa League and Premier League. Moreover, fitness in the middle of the park has been kind to the Australian at least so far this season and his biggest setback is a 7-match ban that has just been handed out to Rodrigo Bentancur.

Tottenham Hotspur have expressed keen interest to land former Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga in the upcoming 2025 transfer intervals, per Spanish publication Fichajes.

The North Londoners have been looking to compound on their midfield options as Daniel Levy looks to add quality and depth in the middle of the park. And given the fact that the 22-year-old is possibly looking to return to Europe, Spurs could be an ideal destination for the highly rated maestro.

Gabri Veiga was subject to aggressive links with a move to the Premier League before he moved to Saudi Arabia as he joined Al-Ahli, and now he is linked with a return to Europe after a short stint in the Saudi Pro League.

The talented Spaniard played some impressive football, showcasing his technical ability and vision in La Liga, and has continued to attract attention from European elites, including Tottenham, who are among those keen to secure his signatures.

Can Gabri Veiga replace Maddison?

Gabri Veiga is a creative outlet who can take up James Madison’s role in Ange Postecoglou’s starting lineup, with the latter being reduced to bits and pieces role off late.

The England international has been inconsistent and has had his fair share of injury problems since moving to Hotspur Way, citing those Levy would be keen to add a competition to the former Leicester midfielder, and in Veiga they can get someone who can play in a similar role but also provide different dynamics from the middle of the park.

The 2002-born maestro’s ability to control the tempo of the game while having the ability to break defensive lines with top-notch passes and contribute to both the attacking and defensive sides of things makes him a valuable addition to Postecoglou’s hard-working playing style.

Tottenham contemplating move for Feyenoord star David Hancko

Tottenham are contemplating a move for Feyenoord star David Hancko

Tottenham Hotspur did spend a considerable amount of money in the summer transfer window to reshape their squad. However, the results haven’t been good enough and they lie 10th in the table, although only three points adrift of third-place Chelsea.

With so much money spent, the pressure really is on Ange Postecoglou to deliver the goods. Regardless of their spending, it looks like the Lilywhites are looking for more signings, especially in defence.

Indeed, according to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are considering making a move for Feyenoord defender David Hancko.

Spurs have yet to be clear about whether they want a specialist left-back or a versatile player capable of operating both as a central defender and full-back. They have set aside a sizeable budget to bolster their backline, particularly due to injury issues to first-choice centre-back pairing Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.

The North London outfit would prefer not to spend more than £25million on the position if they do decide to sign a player during the January transfer window. The aforementioned report adds Tottenham’s long-term plan with the development of on-loan young defenders such as Ashley Phillips and Luka Vuskovic may impact how much intent they show in hunting reinforcements.

Feyenoord’s David Hancko is one of the defensive options to have emerged as a target. The Slovakian’s rise at Feyenoord since arriving from Sparta Prague in 2022 has been impressive. He has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Eredivisie and his stock rose further following eye-catching displays during the 2024 European Championships in Germany.

The 26-year-old has racked up 110 appearances across all competitions for Feyenoord to date, scoring 12 goals and supplying 11 assists. Hancko has been in great form since the start of 2024/25 season, starting each of his side’s 12 league fixtures. However, as the defender is contracted at De Kuip until 2028 (Transfermarkt), the Slovakian international won’t come cheap.

With volumes of experience in the Eredivisie, European leagues and at the international stage, Hancko has developed into a strong defender capable of influencing games with his passing, awareness and tactical intelligence. At 26, the ex-Fiorentina man is entering the prime stages of his career and could immediately make an impression at White Hart Lane.

The Prievidza-born talent has the qualities to be viewed as a potential leader for Tottenham’s defence, and his ability to operate both as a centre-back and left-back would fit perfectly into the club’s long-term strategy, providing the solidity and charisma required to strengthen the defensive ranks for the upcoming seasons.

All in all, Daniel Levy should push for Hancko’s signature to solve Spurs’ defensive woes.

Pressure has been mounting on Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou as the Lilywhites continue to struggle in the 2024/25 season with Spurs laying in the tenth position on the table in the Premier League and the supporters start to get worried about the season.

The North Londoners recent defeat against Ipswich Town at White Hart Lane ahead of the international break was a painful blow that left the supporters feeling frustrated and questioning whether the Australian head coach is the right man to lead Spurs to silverware. The loss against Kieran McKenna’s side brings out the consistency problems that Tottenham have been facing lately, complemented by the defensive issues that have hurt Spurs throughout the ongoing campaign.

Spurs boss Postecoglou faces backlash

Many supporters have been calling for Postecoglou’s head given that results have not been on the brighter end, with Spurs losing five of their eleven (11) Premier League games this season, and this lack of form has placed increasing pressure on the former Celtic manager given how Tottenham are aspiring to finish in the top four and quality for Champions League football next season.

And former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson, speaking on the latest edition of the Inside Track podcast (via. Football Insider), insists that Ange’s future at White Hart Lane could be determined if Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League or Europa League this season. He insists that the Greece-born coach could lose his place at N17 as early as February 2025 if Spurs drop out of all the cup competitions and are not within reach of European qualification.

He said:

“He’s under pressure now. But I think he’s bang under pressure at the end of the season if they fail to make it into the Champions League or Europa League again. I think there’s got to be some signs of progression under his management.

“They’re being beaten too easily and they’re too susceptible defensively. He’s stuck with this style when it doesn’t necessarily suit some of the players in his side. He’ll always be under pressure at Tottenham, because the stigma surrounding the need to win a trophy is not going to go away. It’s the stick used to beat them with by every other club, so if he wins a trophy and doesn’t reach European football, would that be enough?

“I’m not convinced. I think European football is vital for Tottenham and where they are as a club. Ange has earnt the right to have time, but they don’t seem to be learning from their mistakes. At the end of the season, yes, he’s bang under pressure if they don’t achieve what they want to achieve, but at the moment, he’s okay.

“In February, if they drop out of the cup competitions and it doesn’t look like they’ll compete for European places, he could lose his job before the end of the season.”

Journo thinks Postecoglou isn't fully convinced by Tottenham star Lucas Bergvall

Lucas Bergvall has endured a slow start to life at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have struggled for consistency this season despite investing 100s of millions during the summer transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou has a lot of work to do over the international break after tasting a shock 2-1 defeat to newly promoted Ipswich Town at home—a result that left them 10th in the table. The Lilywhites face defending champions Manchester City after the break, a game they have to win to keep pace with the top four.

Having spent a considerable amount of money in the past window, Tottenham felt they had sufficient backup on the bench. However, that hasn’t been the case with one player struggling to impress thus far after arriving at the club. The player in this aspect is Lucas Bergvall.

Lucas Bergvall finally arrived at White Hart Lane from Djurgarden IF in the summer having signed on the dotted lines back in January. There has been hype around the Swedish talent, and it is believed that he has made a good impact behind the scenes in his short time at Tottenham. However, Ange Postecoglou hasn’t handed the teenager sufficient opportunities to make a mark.

Bergvall has made 10 appearances across all competitions, clocking just 324 minutes in total. He is yet to start a Premier League game for the north London club, and Swedish journalist Tobias Hellgren feels Ange Postecoglou has not been fully convinced with the Stockholm-born talent.

Spurs beat Barcelona to Bergvall’s signature in January with an eye for the future. The midfielder also recently opened up on his struggles capitalizing on the limited opportunities he has received under Postecoglou. Indeed, at 18 and coming from Allsvenskan—the Swedish top flight—whose quality cannot be matched with that of the Premier League, it isn’t surprising to see the youngster endure a slow start to life at N17.

While Bergvall hasn’t featured prominently for Big Ange’s side in the Premier League, he has nevertheless made four starts in the Europa League and once in the Carabao Cup, indicating that the teenage prodigy remains very much part of the Greek-Australian tactician’s plans.
