Tottenham could lose Romero in the upcoming winter window

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane, with Real Madrid expressing interest in landing the former Atalanta star. The Argentine centre back was linked with the Spanish giants along the previous summer window; however, Daniel Levy was adamant about not letting the player leave as he put a hefty price tag on his head.

Many thought the links with the move to Los Blancos would calm down once the summer window concludes, though that hasn’t been the case as they have continued to pursue a move for the 26-year-old. And the Lilywhites could face a stern test to keep hold of the player in the upcoming winter transfer window as CaughtOffside indicates Madrid’s probable push for Romero’s signature in January.

Will Spurs hold onto Romero amidst Real Madrid’s pursuit?

Carlo Ancelotti’s are in dire need to bring in a new central defender as they have been dealt with a series of injuries at the back, the latest being Eder Militao’s ACL, that will keep him occupied on the sidelines for the rest of the ongoing season, and things become more complicated owing to David Alaba’s injury, whose return remains uncertain following a serious ligament problem last year.

In the midst of such defensive woes, Florentino Perez would be looking to make a possible push to bring in their defensive targets in the winter window, with Romero emerging among top priority targets.

Tottenham Hotspur player ratings vs Ipswich Town

Description

Tottenham Hotspur welcomed Ipswich Town at home for an important game in the Premier League and were looking to walk away with the three points ahead of the November international break. Ipswich meanwhile came to the N17 searching for their first three points of the season.

Having beaten Aston Villa 4-1 last weekend, Spurs were in good league form coming into this game. The line-up that Ange Postecoglou named was along expected lines with Cristian Romero managing to prove his fitness.

In the first half of the game, Tottenham started brightly but could not really create clear cut chances. Ipswich took advantage, scoring two goals and going into the break just 45 minutes away from their first victory of the season.

The second half played out in an expected manner. Tottenham started very well and had a goal ruled out almost immediately. They then got one back through Rodrigo Bentancur. Eventually, despite being the better team in the second half, Spurs fell to a 2-1 defeat to the newly promoted side. This is one that would surely sting Ange.

Here is how we think Tottenham Hotspur players fared in the game against Ipswich Town in the Premier League at home.

GK | Guglielmo Vicario: (6/10)

Cannot be faulted for the first goal. Parried the ball straight into Radu Dragusin’s feet for the second. Neither can be put down to his mistakes though. Made a few decent saves but yet again, looked shaky when claiming crosses.

RB | Pedro Porro: (7/10)

A ‘nothing to write home about’ first-half performance from the Spaniard. Didn’t do much going forward and didn’t do much wrong defensively either. Excellent corner delivery for Bentancur’s goal.

CB | Cristian Romero: (6/10)

Should have shown awareness for Ipswich’s first goal, where he seemed to have assumed that the danger was cleared. Took much better control of the situation in the second half.

CB | Radu Dragusin: (6.5/10)

Dragusin was having a good game before directly making the mistake (?) in Ipswich’s second goal. Did not affect that mistake to affect him though, as he continued to put in a solid shift in the second half.

LB | Destiny Udogie: (6.5/10)

The more adventurous of the two full backs in the first 45 minutes. Did not create much out of his combination play with Son though. Made more clever runs in the second half. End product has to improve though.

CDM | Rodrigo Bentancur: (7/10)

Missed the tackle in the lead-up to the second goal. Not at his sharpest in the first 45. Headed home Tottenham’s first goal from the corner to spark hopes of a comeback. Screamed his way into a yellow card. Taken off for Yves Bissouma after a ‘mixed bag’ performance.

CDM | Pape Matar Sarr: (6/10)

Typically, industrious first half. Looked to force the situation but not much came of it. Taken off in the 65th minute with what seemed like an injury.

CAM | Dejan Kulusevski: (6/10)

Some nice touches; some poor ones. Neither great nor poor in the first 45. Looked much more involved on the ball in the second half. It did not result in anything though.

RW | Brennan Johnson: (4/10)

Missed a guilt-edge chance from a beautiful Son cross, very early in the game. Did not do much else in the first 45. Taken off at around 85 minutes for James Maddison after a disappointing display.

LW | Son Heung-min: (6/10)

Similar first-half to Kulusevski – some sublime touches, some atrocious ones. Drew one good save. Looked so much better in the second half. Moved into a central role after Pape Sarr left the field. Not a bad day but not a great one either.

ST | Dominic Solanke: (7.5/10)

Tottenham’s best player in the first half. Clever touches, intense pressing and typical centre-forward play. Also drew a couple of saves. Unfortunate to have a goal ruled out for handball early in the second half.

Continued to very impressive as the game progressed. More than anything, it is his intelligence and hard work that stands out. Unfortunately, could not get the all-important goal on the night. Had a chance to win the game in stoppage time but his shot was saved, yet again!

Substitutes:

Timo Werner: (6/10)

Came on for Pape Sarr and typical Werner performance. Intelligent runs, incredible pace but 0 end product.

James Maddison: (N/A):

Came on for Brennan Johnson.

Yves Bissouma: (N/A):

Came on for Rodrigo Bentancur.

Villa look to steal a move for Tottenham bound midfielder Cardoso

Tottenham Hotspur have been subject to aggressive links with a move to bring highly regarded midfielder Johnny Cardoso to White Hart Lane in the 2025 transfer interval as Daniel Levy looks to ensure that he gives the needed midfield depth to Australian head coach Ange Postecoglou.

The North Londoners have been looking to bring in a new midfielder (maybe two) in the upcoming transfer window as they look to replace the influence of the veteran departures of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Gio Lo Celso in the off season. And a move for the USMNT maestro has been on cards at Hotspur Way, given the fact that Tottenham hold the option to land his signatures on a bargain transfer.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on X acknowledged how Spurs have agreed a priority option with Spanish giants to land the 23-year-old midfielder as part of the deal that took Argentine maestro Giovani Lo Celso to Betis.

Could Villa steal Cardoso from under Tottenham’s nose?

However, Spurs interest hasn’t stopped other clubs from pursuing a potential transfer for the midfielder, with Atletico Madrid already registering interest in his signatures. Now, Premier League giants Aston Villa have been looking to make a move for the 23-year-old.

Unai Emery is said to be the driving force pursuing his signatures as they look to beat Tottenham in his pursuit, per Ficherio, and the Villans have Monchi, who is sporting director at Aston Villa, who knows the Spanish top tier inside out, and his expertise may worry Levy.

Sevilla eyeing Reguilon as an alternative to Brighton loanee

Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon has been subjected to links with a move away from White Hart Lane as he looks to conclude his disastrous time in North London when the January transfer window reopens.

The Spaniard has been struggling to accumulate regular game time under his belt, donning the Lilywhites badge. And the 27-year-old is looking to leave the club to get some consistent minutes.

Reguilon linked with Sevilla return

Regular has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Sevilla in the winter window. The La Liga giants have been left unimpressed with Brighton and Hove Albion loanee Valentin Barco, and they are prepared to send him back to the English top-tier side in January, and they’ve already been looking at potential alternative alternatives for the Argentine, per Fichajes.

Signing Reguilon makes perfect sense for Sevilla as of now, with the 27-year-old having already played for them in the past, and the fact that he knows the club inside and out will make it easier for the Real Madrid graduate to make an immediate impact for the La Liga giants.

Reguilon has been looking to rejuvenate his career following his difficult time at Tottenham, and potential back home could help him do exactly so.

For Tottenham, they are looking to get rid of the player in the winter window, and a possible move to Sevilla could work out perfectly for all parties.

Dorrington tipped to move away from Spurs in winter window

Description

Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate Alfie Dorrington has been backed to pursue a loan deal away from White Hart Lane in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Spurs have been blessed with multiple academy starlets off late, and it is Daniel Levy’s job to ensure that all of the youngsters take strides in the development along the campaign. We have already seen the club push for potential loan transfers for Academy players recently, and they made look to give Alfie Dorrington an experience of some valuable minutes under his belt once the January window comes around.

Dorrington tipped for loan move

Dorrington has been struggling with injuries while he has seen some of his teammates go on, make an impact in the first team, or enjoy minutes and men’s football for their loan clubs. And John Wenham, owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, believes that Tottenham would be looking to send the 19-year-old out on loan.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:

“Dorrington is flying under the radar because of these frustrating, continuous injury setbacks.

“However, he is a very good player and I think he could have a higher ceiling than Ashley Phillips. In January he has to be sent out on loan.

“I think our young players should get out and play first-team football. Dorrington has seen the majority of his strongest teammates from last season leave the club this year.

“As a result, it has been really difficult for him, especially with these injuries. Therefore, I think a good loan in January where he goes off and plays 20 games and demonstrates to everyone how good he is would be huge for his development.”

Dorrington has been highly regarded as a player. However, for the defender to succeed, he needs to play some consistent football, and that is not possible with the injury concerns he has been having. Hence, a loan makes perfect sense for the centre back. Getting a gist of men’s first team football is more developmental for the player than featuring along with his academy mates.

“Will be ready”- Rising Tottenham talent backed to make Premier League impact

Tottenham youngster Ashley Phillips is performing well on loan at Stoke City

Tottenham Hotspur aren’t short on young talent at the moment, with Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear leading the way when it comes to exciting prospects emerging out of Hotspur Way.

Ange Postecoglou has not hesitated to give young talents and academy products opportunities to shine in the first team. He is aware of the development of the academy kids, and to help them take the next step, the Spurs boss allowed many of them to leave on loan. One of those was Ashley Phillips.

Ashley Phillips, who arrived at Tottenham from Blackburn Rovers in 2023, spent the second half of last season on loan at Plymouth Argyle. The youngster was one of Plymouth Argyle’s standout performers, playing a key role in helping the club secure their Championship status.

He returned to N17 in June and signed for Championship side Stoke City on a season-long loan two months later. After a slow start to life at Stoke City, the teenager is beginning to make strides and grab the opportunities coming his way with both hands.

John Wenham—the owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose—thinks Phillips should be ready for a Premier League loan next season after he returns from Blackburn. After back-to-back loan spells in the Championship, he wants the Tottenham youngster to test himself in the English top flight.

Phillips is taking impressive strides into senior football, and the fact that he had to patiently wait for his opportunities in the opening months of the season will allow him to develop in different facets of being a professional football player.

New Stoke boss Narcis Pelach has given the Manchester-born talent great confidence since replacing Steven Schumacher in mid-September. Under Pelach, the Potters are comparatively doing well and Phillips has been one of the key players in their resurgence. He started against his former employers Blackburn in midweek, helping his team keep a clean sheet in the 2-0 away success.

This was the teenager’s fourth successive start for the Championship outfit, and with every passing game, Phillips is gaining the trust of Pelach. Should the Stoke loan go well, the bosses at the Hotspur Way must consider sending the central defender on loan to a Premier League club next season.

Exposing Phillips to top-level football is essential and a temporary switch to a Premier League side—a mid-table or promoted—before integrating him into the Spurs side would not be a bad idea.

Postecoglou ‘dissapointed’ as Tottenham star faces spell on the sidelines

Tottenham’s unpredictable start to the season has left them in 7th place in both the Premier League and Champions League, with injuries to seven key players influencing their struggles. Richarlison, sidelined by injuries himself, has missed five league matches and most Europa League fixtures, forcing manager Ange Postecoglou to consider other options for his forward line. The club will have to make a crucial decision regarding Richarlison’s future, as his recurring injuries raise concerns over his reliability moving forward.

Richarlison seemed to have regained form and fitness, especially after assisting Dominic Solanke in Spurs’ recent 4-1 win over Aston Villa. However, his progress was short-lived, as a hamstring injury ruled him out of the mid-week Europa League game against Galatasaray. Ange Postecoglou confirmed the setback, adding to his frustration as Spurs prepare for Sunday’s match against Ipswich Town without the Brazilian forward.

What does the future hold for the Brazilian?

Richarlison’s ongoing injury troubles highlight a growing challenge for Ange Postecoglou, who relies on a fit, dynamic squad to execute his high-intensity style. A £60 million signing, Richarlison was expected to be a consistent force at Tottenham, but his repeated absences leave a void in Postecoglou’s plans. For the Lilywhites, this raises questions about his long-term reliability and suitability for their current system.

Commenting via Youtube on the ex-Everton star, Postecoglou said:

“He was very disappointed. I think I said in the lead up, we tried to take a different approach, he worked awfully hard on his rehab but also his general fitness.”

“I’m reticent to put [a time on] it but he’ll be out for a significant amount of time. It’s a significant hamstring injury.”

With Richarlison approaching 28 and struggling to make a significant impact even when fit, Tottenham may soon face a tough decision on his future. Given the high expectations from his £60 million transfer, the club might need to consider alternative options to strengthen their forward line, especially as Postecoglou’s system demands consistent and impactful performances.

According to Teamtalk, Heung-min Son’s camp is unhappy with Tottenham Hotspur’s decision not to offer him a new contract, and the news has caught the attention of the Saudi Pro League. Son has been one of Spurs’ standout players, especially following Harry Kane’s departure, but recent reports suggest that the club won’t be extending his deal. This decision could pave the way for a potential transfer, with the Saudi Pro League now closely monitoring the situation.

Tottenham’s decision not to offer him a new contract, has caught the attention of the Saudi Pro League. Alongside ongoing interest in Mohamed Salah, Son has now emerged as a key target, with the Saudi league eyeing the possibility of signing two of the Premier League’s biggest stars.

Son’s camp opinions changing

The £190,000 gross per week star, is contracted with Tottenham until the end of the season, with the option for the club to extend it for an additional year. However, reports state that Tottenham have informed Son’s camp that they will likely trigger the extension, which has caused discontent within the camp.

The frustration within Heung-min Son’s camp over Tottenham’s handling of his contract could lead them to explore other options, with the Saudi Pro League emerging as a potential suitor. Son, a Tottenham legend with “galactico” level stats ( 252 goal contributions in 418 matches) , has been a key figure at the club, often sacrificing personal glory for loyalty.

Tottenham appear to be planning for life after Son, with reports suggesting they are keeping a close eye on Argentine forward Kevin Zenon. The club is reportedly keen on integrating the 19-year-old into their squad gradually, potentially as a long-term replacement for their legendary player.

3 positions Tottenham need to reinforce in January

With a defeat at the hands of Galatasaray in their midweek UEFA Europa League fixture, Spurs’ stop-and-go momentum prevails as we enter the second quarter of the season which will feature the infamous festive period schedule of the English footballing calendar.

Despite their several stumbles, Spurs are in the quarters of the League Cup, just two points off the top four in the Premier League, and strong contenders for the Europa League, with their FA Cup campaign to commence in January. With everything left to play for, Spurs need to manoeuvre the coming months meticulously to make this a special term under head coach, Ange Postecoglou.

Here, we present to you three positions the Lilywhites need to address in particular during the January transfer window.

Right-back

Pedro Porro has emerged on Real Madrid’s wishlist as they are forced into looking at long-term replacements for Dani Carvajal, who is advancing in his 30s and is out for the season with an ACL injury. Man City are also looking to bring the Spaniard back to the Etihad.

Even if Porro doesn’t go anywhere in January, Tottenham’s other right-back options are Djed Spence, who at best remains on the fringes of the first team, and the versatile teenager Archie Gray. Simply put, Spurs are too thin in this department, and if they are to go deep into competitions on the back of Postecoglou’s intense regimen, they are going to need at least one more right-back option in January—one the head coach will play, at least.

Left-back

The fullback situation on the left isn’t looking too good either. Ben Davies is in his thirties and could leave the club in the coming months while also currently occupying the centre-back spot in the absence of the injured Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, Sergio Reguilón remains on the roster only because a deal for him could not be sorted out in the summer, leaving Destiny Udogie as the sole out-and-out option.

Archie Gray has once again demonstrated his age-defying versatility by playing in this spot (as he did against Galatasaray), but as stated above, Spurs are going to need more hands—or legs, if you prefer—on deck per position to mount challenges in multiple competitions.

Central defence

As pointed out in the previous section, both Romero and Van de Ven are currently out. They are also Spurs’ best centre-backs and have consistently been linked with moves away in recent months. Tottenham’s recent defeat demonstrated that their literal last line of defence that boasts Davies and Radu Drăgușin—who reportedly wants out—is limited in its ability to keep the opposition attackers out.

Spurs may ultimately have to resort to getting a versatile defender or two in January to bolster their defence line in general for at least the second half of this season, someone like Gray or Davies who could occupy multiple positions and get used to Postecoglou’s requirements seamlessly.

Archie Gray has struggled for game time at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur are establishing a very exciting group of young players at the Hotspur Way currently with a clear focus on future prospects.

The north Londoners enjoyed a strong summer transfer window where Daniel Levy and Johan Lange brought in some exciting talents through the front doors at White Hart Lane. One of those talents to arrive in the summer was Archie Gray.

Archie Gray joined Tottenham from Leeds United for a fee worth around £30million in August. He became the talk of the town following an impressive campaign with Leeds United, making over 50 appearances and featuring in his preferred midfield role as well as at right-back.

Since the Whites failed to secure top-flight promotion, Spurs took advantage of the Championship club’s financial situation and beat several clubs to the teenager’s signature. One of the hottest prospects in English football, Gray, however, hasn’t been able to get regular first-team action at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou.

So far, the England youth international has featured in 10 matches and has been on the pitch for only 491 minutes. He is yet to start a Premier League game and has come off the bench only five times. As per a report from GIVEMESPORT, Gray could be subject to a lot of offers during the winter transfer window.

John Wenham—the owner of the famous Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose—has tipped Southampton to make a move for Gray in the January transfer window. He feels the versatile Englishman would be required to join a club where he is going to get regular minutes after virtually spending more than the first two months of the 2024/25 season on the bench at Tottenham.

Gray has seen opportunities tough to come by at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. More importantly, he is yet to start a game in his preferred midfield position. The England under-21 international finds himself behind the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur and Yves Bissouma in the pecking order and the lack of minutes has led to a lot of talk about his future.

-> Tight wage structure hindered Tottenham from signing England international who Postecoglou wanted

Big Ange considers Gray an important part of his long-term plans at the club but he hasn’t given him much opportunities to showcase his talent. Hence, why, it would make sense that the Durham-born talent is sent out on loan, perhaps to a Premier League side like Southampton.

While the Saints find themselves in the relegation zone, Russell Martin has not shied away from giving youngsters opportunities in the Premier League and the same could happen with Gray if Spurs decide to loan him to the south coast club.
