Tottenham’s attempts to make big changes to last season’s underperforming squad have begun in earnest, with the North London side reportedly targeting Brighton central defender Jan Paul van Hecke. According to the Telegraph, the Premier League side have already had an opening offer rejected by the Seagulls for their 25-year-old central defender. Brighton are apparently holding out for no less than €81 million for Van Hecke, despite the player’s contract expiring at the end of next season.

Spurs desperately lacked cutting edge in the final third and, in many ways, were lacking the kind of skill and talent that they shipped off to the Netherlands back in 2024 for just €4 million in return.

Indeed, few would have expected former academy prospect Troy Parrott to be touted as a potential solution to Tottenham’s problems in attack, but a quick glance at his form in the Eredivisie for AZ Alkmaar this season may surprise even his most ardent detractors. The 24-year-old Irish striker bagged no less than 31 goals and 12 assists in just 48 games across all games for AZ and is now being linked with moves to Real Betis, Borussia Dortmund and perhaps even a return to English football. And in many ways, the Dublin-born star has become the centre forward Tottenham desperately need next season.

"He has been outstanding ever since he moved to AZ and ever since he has played in the Netherlands,” said Kevin Lux, Transfermarkt content manager in the Netherlands. “He has scored regularly. He performed well for his team. For AZ in the league and also in European matches. So yeah, he's been outstanding for them for the past two seasons." Since making the move to the Netherlands, first for Excelsior on loan and then on a permanent move to AZ in 2024, Parrott has gained €21m in market value. Not only does that now make the Irish striker the club’s most valuable player and the fourth most valuable player in the Dutch top-flight, but it also means only five players have gained more market value in the league than Parrott since the summer of 2023.

So what’s behind Parrott going from strength to strength in Alkmaar? "Well, I think it suits him,” said Lux. “But also, the Eredivisie is an ideal league for strikers to score goals. We've seen it in the past with Graziano Pellè, with all of these players that had a hard time scoring elsewhere. Then they move to the Netherlands, and they started scoring goals, and then they could make a very, very nice transfer to a big league. I don't know about his history very much, if Parrott scored a lot of goals in his past before he moved to the Netherlands, but it wasn't a wrong choice for him to come here to make a name as a goal scorer in European football."

However, while Parrott seems to be enjoying himself in the Netherlands, his days at AZ may be numbered. As such, there’s a good chance that Parrott will only depart AZ this summer but do so with a record transfer fee. The Dutch side will be looking for a fee that surpasses their current record sale - Tijjani Reijnders’s €24.8m move to AC Milan in 2023 - which could see the young striker become the most expensive Irish player of all time, should he surpass the €26.9m Brentford paid for Nathan Collins in 2023. It remains to be seen where Parrott goes next, but few could deny that he’s made plenty of right moves since he swapped Tottenham’s youth teams for first team football in the Netherlands.

Transfermarkt has just adjusted the market values of 524 players in the latest Premier League market value update this June. The division's total value actually dropped by -€240 million, but remains at a grand total of €12.37 billion - making the English top-flight by far the most valuable league in world football. Among the biggest winners were teenager Junior Kroupi, Manchester City playmaker Rayan Cherki, and Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo. In terms of squad value, Bournemouth were among the biggest winners, whilst by far the biggest downgrade came for Tottenham.

William Saliba becomes 2nd CB to hit €100m

One of the other biggest winners from the update was Arsenal centre-back William Saliba, and he has reached a special milestone in the process. Following the Gunners Premier League title, which was built upon their ferocious defence, the Frenchman saw his market value rise by a further +€10m, making him just the second ever centre-half to hit a €100m market value. The only other player to manage this was Liverpool's Virgil van Djik in 2019.

"Saliba has had yet another amazing season at Arsenal," says Premier League market value coordinator Ben Littlemore. "Few players in world football can match his ability at the back, and every team in the world would want Saliba in their team. He is now worth €20m more than any other centre-back in the world, and considering his age and ability that seemed the right gap." The next most valuable centre-back in the league is Saliba's partner Gabriel, who remains at €75m.

Drops for valuable attackers including Saka & Palmer

At the other end of the scale, there were many drops for some of the league's most valuable attacking stars, who have failed to replicate past seasons this term. Bukayo Saka drops by -€10m to €110m, whilst both Florian Wirtz and Cole Palmer go from €110m to €100m. "A lot of the top attacking stars in the Premier League have struggled this season," explains Littlemore. "Saka is still Arsenal's most threatening attacker more often than not, but his numbers have dropped significantly as he has struggled to gain momentum after a series of injuries. Palmer and Wirtz have both also underwhelmed, but all three of these players remain top talents, and there is an expectation that something could easily click to get them back to their best."

There was also a -€10m drop for Chelsea midfielder Moisés Caicedo, who goes back to €100m. However, when it comes to the player to suffer the biggest loss in this update, it goes to Tottenham's Dejan Kulusevski, who dropped by -€18m to €17m, having not played football now for over a year. There were then -€15m downgrades for Alexander Isak (new value: €85m), Micky van de Ven (€50m), and Rodri (€50m), with the latter mainly going down due to age and injuries.

When it comes to the biggest winners, no player shone more brightly than Bournemouth's Kroupi this June. The teenager has enjoyed a fruitful first campaign in English football, scoring 13 Premier League goals and sees his value sky-rocket by +€30m to a new figure of €70m. "Adapting to the Premier League is so hard, as we have seen with many top stars over the past few years, but Kroupi looks right at home," says Littlemore. "To do what he has done in this league at such a young age is not normal. His ball striking ability is fantastic and plenty of top clubs will be sniffing around him this summer."

The next biggest rise came for Man City's Cherki, who registered 12 assists in his first Premier League season, and sees his value shoot up by +€25m to €90m this summer. "Cherki has stood up in some of the biggest games in the run-in and proved he can do it in the English top-flight. His natural ability is frightening," explains Littlemore. There were also +€20m rises for Man City's Nico O'Reilly (€70m), Man United's Mainoo (€70m), and Bournemouth's Rayan (€60m).

Man City retain the most valuable squad at €1.32 billion, followed by champions Arsenal (€1.25b) and Chelsea (€1.12b).

West Ham endured a miserable afternoon in the North East. One which would have relieved a lot of nerves in a certain quarter of North London. Nuno Espírito Santo opted to field a back five, but looked all at sea in the opening half hour, as Newcastle raced to a 2-0 lead through goals from Nick Woltemade and William Osula. The Hammers looked better after making a first-half sub and going to a back four, but an Osula second half goal confirmed their fate on the night. A wondergoal from Taty Castellanos proved to be nothing but a consolation.

It means West Ham are now two points behind Tottenham, who still have two games to play (away at Chelsea and at home to Everton). The Hammers host Leeds on the final day, but with a significantly inferior goal difference to Spurs, only a win combined with two Tottenham defeats would see them beat the drop. Jarrod Bowen has been Mr West Ham over the past five years, and without their talismanic captain, they could have probably been relegated sooner. There will be no shortage of Premier League clubs queuing up to lure him back to the top flight, and it seems extremely unlikely that the Hammers will be able to hold on to him in the Championship. Everton, Liverpool and Newcastle have all been heavily linked and could see Bowen as a cheaper alternative for a ready-made Premier League winger.

Crysencio Summerville

Another winger who will be on the radar of many Premier League clubs will be Dutchman Crysencio Summerville. It took a long time for him to show his worth in claret and blue, but his purple patch of form in the new year will not have gone unnoticed by Premier League clubs, and he possesses a very favourable profile. Tottenham and his former club Leeds are thought to be some of the clubs circling around his signature, with West Ham likely to be forced into a lower fee for his sale without top-flight football.

In the second half of the season, Mateus Fernandes emerged as one of the top young midfielders in the division. The Portuguese star struggled to justify his €44m fee early on, but after settling into a central midfield berth, really began to show his quality. Premier League leaders Arsenal are thought to be one of the clubs trying to strike a deal for the 21 year old this summer.

While Tottenham Hotspur may have taken a much-needed uptick in form in recent weeks and could now avoid the very real threat of relegation under new manager Roberto De Zerbi, there’s little doubt that the North London club’s season has been an unmitigated disaster. Dane Scarlett - Hibs

Kicking things off, we have young centre forward Dane Scarlett. After a decent spell on loan at Oxford United in the Championship last season, Scarlett was sent on loan to Scottish Premiership side Hibernian in the January transfer window. Since then, the 22-year-old talent has proven to be a useful squad player for David Gray’s side, often coming off the bench to play as a centre forward or on the right wing. However, just one assist in 11 games for the Scottish club suggests that Scarlett hasn’t been able to impose himself north of the border.

Will Lankshear - Oxford United

One centre forward that has done exceptionally well this season is Will Lankshear. Although still technically a youth player at Tottenham, Lankshear made the move to Oxford United at the start of the season and has come on leaps and bounds in senior football. So far, the 21-year-old talent has bagged an impressive 11 goals and four assists in the Championship after nailing down a starting spot in Matt Bloomfield's side.

Min-hyeok Yang - Coventry City

Despite only joining the club in January 2025, Min-hyeok Yang is already on his third loan spell in English football. After making the move to Portsmouth at the start of the season, Yang made a somewhat underwhelming start at Fratton Park with three goals and one assist in 16 games. The South Korean winger was then sent to Coventry City in January, but the deal has proved even more disastrous, with the young winger playing just 29 minutes of league football for Frank Lampard’s team in the second half of the season.

Alejo Veliz - Rosario Central

Another young player on Tottenham’s books that is still trying to find his feet is striker Alejo Veliz. After a loan spell at Espanyol last season, Veliz was sent back to his boyhood club Rosario Central at the start of this season and has so far looked like his old self back in Argentinian football. In the first half of the season, the 22-year-old striker bagged five goals and one assist in 16 league games, and in 2026, he’s currently sitting on five goals in 18 games for the club.

Ashley Phillips - Stoke City

Tottenham may find a solution to their defensive issues next season in the form of Ashley Phillips. Now on his second loan spell at Stoke City, Phillips started on the bench at the beginning of the season but has worked his way into Mark Robin’s starting XI and nailed down a regular spot, as the club has looked to fight off the threat of relegation to League One. And, along the way, the 20-year-old talent has made himself a fan favourite at the club. Perhaps he can do the same in North London next season.

Alfie Devine - Preston

Another Tottenham prospect that has found his feet in the Championship is young central midfielder Alfie Devine. After joining Preston on loan last summer, Devine established himself as an excellent box-to-box midfielder for the Lilywhites, bagging an impressive 15 goals and assists in 45 games for Paul Heckingbottom’s team. As a result, Devine’s market value has shot up from €3.5 million to €6 million this season, and that figure could skyrocket if he’s able to translate his form in the second tier to the Premier League next season.

Manor Solomon - Fiorentina

Unlike most of the players on this list, 26-year-old winger Manor Solomon isn’t a prospect in need of game time but rather a player who has been deemed surplus to requirements in North London. And it’s not hard to see why; after initially joining Villarreal on loan at the start of the season, the Israeli talent managed just one goal and four assists in 11 games. He was then recalled and sent to Fiorentina in January, where Solomon has managed just one goal and four assists in 11 games for the struggling Serie A side.

Mikey Moore - Rangers

One winger that certainly hasn’t struggled this season is Mikey Moore. After making the move to Rangers last summer, many wondered whether the 18-year-old talent could match the physicality and pressure of playing for the Ibrox club. However, Moore has undoubtedly thrived in Scotland, bagging six goals and three assists for Rangers and was recently named the PFA Young Player of the Year by the Scottish media. So few would doubt that Tottenham’s young talent has made the most of his spell in Glasgow.

Luka Vuskovic - Tottenham

However, when it comes to thriving on loan, no player at Tottenham can truly rival Luka Vuskovic. After singing from Hajduk Split for just €11m, Vuskovic was promptly sent on loan to Germany to play for recently-promoted HSV. Since then, the Croatian talent has truly thrived in the northern port city, where his market value has risen by an incredible €48m. With assured and consistent performances at centre back, Vuskovic has been linked with moves to the likes of Bayern Munich this summer, but there’s little doubt that Spurs will be desperate to get him back to England to help fix their broken defence.

The Brazil international has struck 14 goals and assisted eight in the Premier League this season. The 24-year-old has a market value of €75 million, but Chelsea are reluctant to sell and would likely to demand a fee significantly above that.

Anthony Gordon's representatives have reportedly been in contact with Bayern Munich for 'months', with a summer transfer being explored by the Bundesliga giants. Vincent Kompany is a fan of the Newcastle winger, who has bagged 10 goals in the Champions League this season.

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero could prove to be an alternative signing for Barcelona this summer if the Blaugrana are unable to convince Inter Milan to sell Alessandro Bastoni. Romero is one of Spurs' top earners and is expected to depart if the club are relegated from the Premier League.
