Richarlison thought he had secured Tottenham all three points against Manchester Utd – but Matthijs de Ligt scored an equaliser deep into stoppage time in the Premier League clash

Gary Lineker has called for a rule change after Richarlison was booked after scoring for Tottenham against Manchester United.

Spurs were seconds away from only a fourth Premier League home win in 2025 when the Brazilian scored. However, there was still time for Matthijs de Ligt to head home a dramatic last-gasp equaliser.

Mathys Tel had earlier cancelled out Bryan Mbeumo's first-half header. But Richarlison was booked after he scored, as he took off his shirt during his celebrations.

And Lineker, speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, believes that although it was a careless thing for the former Everton man to do, the time has come to change the rules.

He said: “Richarlison thought he'd won the game for Tottenham, didn't he, ripping off his shirt, and then obviously they get extra time for that, and then they're scoring that extra time.

“I think it's a stupid law to get a yellow card, and obviously, if it happens in injury time, you get extended injury time. But also, even though it's a silly law, you know what it is, and I just don't understand why.

"I know you can get overexcited, but you can get overexcited by doing something else other than rip your bloody shirt off.

“It's a bit daft, but I get it. It's a big goal for him, and he thought at the time he'd won the game. But I mean, honestly, footballers, Micah.

Micah Richards then said: “You know what? I can't even grumble at the fact that he's taking off his shirt, because he's playing it in real life. I feel that way on Fantasy Football, so I understand you.”

Reflecting on United’s stoppage-time equaliser, Spurs boss Thomas Frank said: "A lot of things we could have done a bit better, the last one is all about the urgency, maybe don't give the cross away and defend better.

"Second half we got more bite in the man to man pressure, which was not working as it should have been in the first half."

Frank added: "Of course it's not that I'm going away from here and not being disappointed at leading with one minute to go and you don't win, that will always be the case.

"What I'm focussing on is especially that the second half was a good performance. I was very happy with the way we turned it around.

"We stayed in the game, did the right thing, keep pushing - in a game when two teams neutralise each other you don't create too much, that's natural, but how the boys kept fighting was hugely impressive."

Here's the Tottenham Hotspur loan latest with plenty of highs and lows this week for the club's players out across the world

There were some happy faces among the Tottenham players out on loan across various leagues over the past week and some frustrated ones.

In total, Spurs have sent 13 players out on loan to clubs spread across England, Scotland, Germany, Spain and South America with some getting the game time they needed, some rediscovering their happiness, others picking up injuries and other struggling to get what they need from their time away.

Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank will be receiving plenty reports on all of their progress from the club's Head of Loans and Pathways Andy Scoulding as Spurs look to decide which players will be part of the future and which of them will move on to new challenges.

Here's how every single one of Tottenham's large group of loan players got on across the world this week. We're leaving out George Abbott because the young midfielder is currently out for Wycombe Wanderers for potentially up to four months with a quad injury.

Luka Vuskovic (Hamburg)

Luka Vuskovic has become an ever-present for Hamburg and is hugely popular with the club's fans, his shirts selling in large numbers for the Bundesliga outfit.

The late drama wasn't just reserved for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as the 18-year-old centre-back enjoyed a day to remember on Saturday as Hamburg grabbed a 97th minute leveller at home against Borussia Dortmund.

Vuskovic played the full match in the back three and joined in the wild celebrations as substitute Ransford Konigsdorffer headed home Miro Muheim's cross at the death.

Spurs' young Croatian recorded the hosts' most defensive contributions on the day as he managed 10 clearances, including nine headed ones, along with three interceptions, two blocks and two ball recoveries.

Vuskovic is settling in very well at Hamburg and media outlet Bild reported last month that he is still studying for his school qualifications through online learning and learning German and Italian to complement his English and Croatian language skills.

The teenager has played eight times for the Bundesliga side since joining, scoring once and only picking up one yellow card despite the amount of defending he has to do for the battling side from Hamburg.

Mikey Moore (Rangers)

Mikey Moore netted his first goal for Rangers with a confident finish in the 3-0 win at Dundee as the Danny Rohl era at the club stretched to three consecutive Scottish Premiership wins.

The 18-year-old swept home his finish after a good passing move from the visitors and he was denied a second goal before the break after it was adjudged on review that the offside Mohamed Diomande had interfered with Dundee goalkeeper Jon McCracken's view of Danilo's initial attempt.

Moore was a constant pest to Dundee during his 66 minutes on the pitch, drifting off the right wing into more central positions to cause problems aplenty.

The teenager spoke about his tough loan after the game and coming out the other side with recent displays.

"It was a difficult start for me and I don’t think I showed anywhere near what I know I can do," he said. "Mentally it’s been unbelievable for me because it’s a massive club and I think it’s strengthened me up a lot because it’s probably the toughest time I’ve been through.

"So now I’m happy to be coming out of it, but now I need to keep on going and performing.

On speculation that he was aiming for a return to north London, the teenager said: "I was never ready to go back. I always knew that at some point it would change and I’ve changed it for myself a little bit in the last few weeks, but I need to keep building and playing even better than I am.

"I’m picking up goals and assists, as I said in midweek that I need to, so I’m happy with the goal on Sunday. I’m feeling a lot more confident, I’m getting used to the league, used to my teammates and the manager’s helped me a lot as well, he’s come in and he’s gave me confidence and belief in myself which has been good from him, so I’m excited to keep going.

"There’s a lot of pressure on a young boy coming from the Premier League, but as long as I’m improving and I’m helping Rangers go win games and picking up goals and helping the team, that’s all that matters for now."

Moore has been given a freer role under former Sheffield Wednesday boss Rohl and is enjoying the chance to create.

"I think it helps me being in that role. I always want to be involved in the game as much as possible and I like to get in the pockets," said the youngster. "I can play wide but I think I’ve had a bit of a mix of both, so I’m enjoying the role I’ve been given."

Will Lankshear (Oxford United)

Will Lankshear netted his fifth goal of the season for Championship side Oxford United as they lost 2-1 at Ryan Mason's West Bromwich Albion.

It was a much-needed victory for Mason, who has been under increasing pressure following a poor run of form with the Baggies.

Lankshear was on hand to convert Przemyslaw Placheta’s cross from close range and give the visitors a 54th-minute lead at The Hawthorns, but the hosts turned it all around to claim all three points.

Oxford sit 21st in the table with just three wins from their 15 Championship matches but Lankshear has been a success so far with five goals from 14 of those games.

Manor Solomon (Villarreal)

Manor Solomon's loan at Villarreal has not been a success so far unfortunately as the 26-year-old has made just one La Liga start for the club.

The winger has been left unused on the bench for three of the past four matches in the league and missed out entirely on their matchday squad for Saturday's 2-0 win at Espanyol due to a back problem. In the Champions League, he has been unused in three of the Spanish club's four games, albeit one of those against Juventus he missed as it fell on the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur.

Solomon's back problem has kept him out of international duty with Israel this month but he is expected to return after the break for Villarreal's upcoming matches.

There has been some speculation that the Spurs winger could return from Spain to head out on loan elsewhere in January if his situation does not improve, with another spell at Leeds United mooted.

Yang Min-hyeok (Portsmouth)

Yang Min-hyeok got just seven minutes from the bench at the end of Portsmouth's 3-2 defeat at Hull City on Saturday.

The 19-year-old had been on a run of seven straight starts in the Championship but as the results took a turn for the worse so Yang found himself unused on the bench in the midweek goalless draw at home to Wrexham and then he just came on for the final moments of the defeat at Hull.

It has been a positive loan spell on the whole though for the South Korean starlet with two goals and one assist in his 10 appearances so far with 593 minutes of football to his name.

Alejo Veliz (Rosario Central)

It was only the second time in seven league matches in Argentina that Alejo Veliz did not record a goal or assist for Rosario.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed his return to Argentina and has picked up five goals and one assist in his 15 matches back at his old club. Saturday brought a goalless affair though at home against San Lorenzo.

After a couple of unsuccessful loan spells in Spain, Veliz has had exactly the move he needed with a whopping 1,271 minutes to his name so far.

Alfie Devine (Preston North End)

Alfie Devine continues to get plenty of Championship experience with Preston as they also drew at the weekend, 1-1 at Millwall.

The midfielder came off the bench for the final 20 minutes of the game but has started the majority of matches for North End since joining in the summer.

The 21-year-old's cameo from the bench earned him a 6.5 in the Lancashire Post's player ratings with the words: "Threw himself straight into the contest and showed plenty of bite. Made a positive impact overall."

Devine has notched two goals and two assists from his 14 matches for Preston so far this season.

Ashley Phillips & Jamie Donley (Stoke City)

Tottenham must be considering recalling Jamie Donley from his loan at Stoke for the 20-year-old has barely featured for the Potters. He has not started a single game in the Championship and has only come off the bench twice in the past 13 matches in the league.

Donley has not been included in the past three matchday squads under Stoke boss Mark Robins and Tottenham will be wary of his development being stunted by the lack of opportunities to play, with 77 Championship minutes to his name across four matches.

His Spurs team-mate Ashley Phillips is back in contention at least and has started the past eight matches in the league for the Potters, playing every single minute of them.

Donley will be hoping his fortune changes at Stoke in the coming weeks as the games come thick and fast, otherwise he could well be playing elsewhere in 2026.

Alfie Dorrington (Aberdeen)

Alfie Dorrington has also been struggling for game time at Aberdeen in recent weeks.

The 20-year-old centre-back has not been named in the past two matchday squads in the Scottish Premiership and has not started a match since September.

The defender has 12 appearances to his name and 716 minutes of football.

Damola Ajayi (Doncaster Rovers)

Damola Ajayi was also out of a matchday squad as Doncaster lost 2-1 at home to Barnsley in League One on Saturday.

Ajayi has been getting experience though on his first loan with 15 appearances and one goal with 585 minutes under the 19-year-old winger's belt.

Tyrese Hall (Notts County)

Tyrese Hall has been getting plenty of game time for Notts County and will be hoping to start yet again as they travel to Cheltenham in League Two on Monday night.

The 20-year-old midfielder has got five goals and one assist across 814 minutes in 15 appearances on his first senior loan.

Tottenham star to train with national team despite being omitted from squad

Tottenham centre-back Radu Dragusin is poised to train with Romania during the international break despite being omitted from their squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia and Herzegovina and San Marino.

The 23-year-old defender has not played a competitive match since January when he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in Spurs' 3-0 Europa League victory over Elfsborg.

But Dragusin is now on the comeback trail after returning to first-team training and there is hope he could make his first appearance under Thomas Frank before the end of the month.

Tottenham medical staff have been reluctant to rush the player's return as they want to get his rehabilitation right to avoid facing any unwanted setbacks.

Romania boss Mircea Lucescu recently included Dragusin in his preliminary squad for this month's international matches but unsurprisingly, he did not make the final cut.

However, Football.London understands the former Genoa star is expected to participate in some training with Romania during the international break, even though he will not feature in either of their World Cup qualifiers.

Last month, he was pictured in the gym with his international team-mates as Romania boss Lucescu has been keen to have his experience around the group.

It's understood Tottenham informed Romania national team chiefs that they did not want Dragusin to be included within their squad for this month's matches as they're continuing to build his fitness.

Romania currently sit third in Group H but could go second if they're able to beat Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo.

Technically, snatching top-spot is still mathematically possible if results go their way but there is a firm chance they could secure a play-off place (via second) given they also face minnows San Marino in their final World Cup qualifier.

Last month, Frank revealed that if all goes to plan, the central defender could earn some minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly during the break before the return of club football.

Frank said: "That could be likely. I think we plan to play him in a friendly there, as I understand it, so that's a big part of it."

The Dane also noted that Dragusin's recovery was going to plan, explaining: "It's going well

"He's fully integrated into training now. Because an ACL is such a, it's not tricky but it's such a big injury, because you're out for nine months so you need to build strength in the knee and so on.

""Then because we don't train that much, the big area stuff is not that much so we need to give him some of the bigger area stuff. But he is definitely getting closer to being involved."

Dragusin joined Tottenham from Italian outfit Genoa in January 2024 in a transfer deal worth in the region of £26.7m.

The Tottenham star has not made his way with his international colleagues after recent issues that have kept him out of the north London club's games

Mohammed Kudus has not joined up with Ghana following the injury that has resulted in him missing the past two Tottenham matches.

The 25-year-old has starred for Spurs since arriving in a £55million deal from West Ham in the summer with five assists and one goal in his first 10 Premier League matches for the north London outfit. However, Kudus has missed the past two matches, the 4-0 Champions League victory against Copenhagen and then Saturday's dramatic 2-2 draw with Manchester United, with what was described as a knock by Tottenham boss Thomas Frank ahead of that first game.

Now football.london understands the winger has not joined up with Ghana for their friendlies in Asia against Japan and Son Heung-min's South Korea on Friday and Tuesday respectively.

Frank had said Kudus was "touch and go" for the game against United but was not in the squad on the day. The Ghanaian could be seen standing in the tunnel in the early moments of the game before joining his team-mates on the sidelines to watch the match that brought two added time goals as the teams shared the spoils.

Ahead of the previous European clash against Copenhagen, the Dane had said about the attacker and full-back Djed Spence: "Djed and Mo got a knock. They could and should be available for tomorrow."

Unfortunately Kudus was not available and Frank said on Saturday before kick-off that he was "very confident that he should be available for the next one".

He will be hoping that his summer signing is fit for that next one because there are two big games for Tottenham immediately after the international break as they travel to Arsenal for the first North London Derby of the season on Sunday November 23, and then face a big Champions League match against the reigning champions PSG on Wednesday November 26.

Spurs will be looking to get revenge against Luis Enrique's side after throwing away a 2-0 lead against the French giants in the UEFA Super Cup in August only to lose on penalties.

Manchester United and Tottenham played out a 2-2 draw in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, with both sides coming in for criticism from Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer has criticised both Manchester United and Tottenham for a "poor" match that was "lacking quality". The two teams clashed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon, resulting in a thrilling draw.

United's Bryan Mbeumo put his team ahead in the first half, with Mathys Tel and Richarlison seemingly securing a win for Spurs towards the end. However, Matthijs de Ligt's superb stoppage time header ensured the points were shared.

Despite the excitement, Shearer was unimpressed by both teams' performances, reports the Mirror. Speaking on Match of the Day, the ex-Newcastle player stated: "A draw was probably a fair result in the end. But the standard of football was pretty poor for both teams.

"The substitutes made a difference for Spurs but not for Manchester United. The visitors going down to 10 men after Benjamin Sesko's injury definitely didn't help.

"But the quality was lacking, especially for two sides that could have gone second in the league if they had won today."

Following the final whistle, Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim gave his thoughts on the match, suggesting his team should have clinched the win. He said: "During the game we felt like the three points were there to take home.

"But then with everything that happened, Harry Maguire and Casemiro coming off and conceding two goals... we scored again and it's a point.

"When you cannot win you don't lose, once again we did that. We have so much to grow as a team, because today was our day to win this game.

"We need to look at ourselves, we were not pressing with the same intensity, we felt comfortable but we need to understand that if we had more bravery we kill the game. But sometimes this happens, you have a better first half than second. We believe in our capacity to score goals until the last minute."

Saturday's stalemate sees Tottenham go into the November international break in fifth place. United, meanwhile, find themselves in eighth position after bouncing back from their disappointing campaign start.

Amorim's men return to action in a fortnight when they welcome Everton to Old Trafford. Spurs face a mouth-watering North London Derby away to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium next time out.

Wilson Odobert put in an impressive performance for Tottenham Hotspur against Manchester United

James Maddison has sent a message to Tottenham Hotspur teammate Wilson Odobert after the forward's impactful performance against Manchester United.

Odobert was named on the bench by Thomas Frank for the clash against the Red Devils in north London, before replacing Randal Kolo Muani at the half-time interval.

Spurs went on to cancel out Bryan Mbeumo's opening goal with a strike from Mathys Tel, before Odobert provided the assist for Richarlison's late goal for Tottenham.

The goal from Richarlison appeared to have won the game for Spurs, only for Matthijs de Ligt to equalise for United and see the points shared in the capital.

After the game, Odobert took to Instagram to send a message to Tottenham fans.

The 20-year-old included a photo of himself featuring for Spurs, accompanied by a brain emoji and an egg timer emoji.

Maddison, who is currently sidelined with a serious knee injury, sent a message of his own to Odobert.

The England international wrote: "Impact bro," accompanied by three clapping hands emojis.

Frank was also full of praise for Odobert after the forward's cameo performance in Tottenham's draw with United.

"I think, again, he's positive," Frank told reporters on Saturday evening. "I think he's stepping forward, or stepping up, and doing things that look right."

Odobert's next opportunity to star for Tottenham will be when they face Arsenal on November 23 in the North London Derby, which will be their first fixture after the November international break.

Maddison is expected to be sidelined for the majority of the season after suffering an ACL injury during pre-season back in August.

Description

Randal Kolo Muani was substituted at half-time in Tottenham Hotspur's draw with Manchester United in the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur face potentially a nervous wait to discover if Randal Kolo Muani has suffered an injury. Spurs were forced to settle for a point in a 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Mathys Tel and Richarlison scored for Thomas Frank's side, with the latter's strike coming in stoppage time to give Tottenham the lead in the closing moments.

This was before Matthijs de Ligt equalised for United in the final minutes, with Bryan Mbeumo also on the score sheet for the Red Devils in North London.

Frank admitted after the game that Kolo Muani "struggled" during the draw with United, with the France international being withdrawn at half-time to be replaced by Wilson Odobert.

"He [Kolo Muani] actually struggled a little bit, but nothing big," Frank told reporters during his post-match press conference.

Journalist Fabrice Hawkins has now provided an update on Kolo Muani's injury, which will give Tottenham a nervous wait.

The reporter has claimed that the Spurs striker will undergo further tests on Sunday to discover the full extent of a jaw injury, but the article does state that the issue is not expected to be anything serious.

Tottenham will return to action after the international break on November 23, where they will face Arsenal in the North London Derby at the Emirates Stadium.

After that, Spurs will return to Champions League duties where they will travel to face Paris Saint-Germain in the French capital.

Tottenham signed Kolo Muani on loan from PSG during the summer transfer window, and UEFA rules will allow the striker to feature against the Ligue 1 giants in the Champions League if the striker is fit enough to do so.

Kolo Muani was also called up to the France squad for the upcoming round of World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Azerbaijan.

It now remains to be seen if the potential injury picked up in the draw with United will prevent the Spurs striker from linking up with his compatriots during the international break.

Sarr's embarrassing but hilarious moment after Richarlison goal and Romero's surprising reaction

Sarr's embarrassing but hilarious moment after Richarlison goal and Romero's surprising reaction - Football London
Description

Here are our Tottenham talking points after the 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon

There's a fine line between being lauded for game-changing substitutions and acknowledging that those players should have started the match anyway.

That's perhaps the main question surrounding Tottenham's chaotic 2-2 draw against Manchester United in Saturday's early kick-off. For three of Thomas Frank's changes - Wilson Odobert, Destiny Udogie and Mathys Tel - all played a direct role in Spurs' turning the game around but questions will be asked as to why at least one or two of them did not start in the first place.

Frank had dismantled the left-hand side of his team that had impressed in midweek against Copenhagen and replaced it with an unbalanced, clunky one in the right-footed Djed Spence and Richarlison, who is more battering ram than lock picker.

The result was an opening 45 minutes in which Spurs had just three touches in the opposition box, their joint-fewest in a Premier League home game in the past 10 seasons. There was one big chance for Richarlison as he somehow contrived to miss Brennan Johnson's ball on a plate cross for him six yards out.

You know an encounter is dull when the highlight of the first half is a sound the fans made. It came when Micky van de Ven ran past one challenge and 60,000 or so Spurs supporters inside the stadium all went 'ooooh' in unison, expecting another memorable pitch-long run after Tuesday night's special goal.

Unfortunately for everyone involved, it was just the one person beaten by the flying Dutchman this time before he passed the ball to a team-mate. He got excited on another surge forward moments later only to give the ball away.

It was a half of precious little quality from either side. Brennan Johnson bailed out Spence with a sliding challenge in his own box to prevent Amad Diallo running through to goal after the Spurs full-back had sliced a clearance towards his own area and then messed up trying to head the resulting bouncing ball.

The lack of quality mirrored the Europa League final in Bilbao in May, only this time it was United who broke the deadlock with a scruffy goal on 32 minutes. Pape Matar Sarr had all the time in the world in the Tottenham box to clear the ball or pass it to someone in space.

Instead he fired it at Van de Ven about three yards from him and the Dutchman sent his attempted clearance against a United player. The ball eventually fell to Amad who lifted a cross to the back post and Frank's former Brentford man Bryan Mbeumo headed home unchallenged by both Pedro Porro or Johnson while Guglielmo Vicario simply watched the ball sail past him.

There was a certain irony that it was Mbeumo, for Frank adores the Cameroon international, believing he is a complete winger and the best of people on the pitch as well as off it in the team environment.

The Dane attempted to get the 26-year-old to join Tottenham in the summer during one chat not long after he joined himself, but Mbeumo's dream move was already locked in to United. Now the Premier League Player of the Month was scoring against his former manager at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

There was little else of note in a first half that ended in a smattering of boos from the home fans, other than Randal Kolo Muani taking an elbow to the jaw from Harry Maguire just 12 minutes in which left its mark and led to the Frenchman coming off at half-time.

"He actually struggled a little bit, but nothing big," said Frank after the game. Reports in France suggest the forward will undergo scans on Sunday but there is little concern over the severity of the knock at this stage.

When it came to jaws though, there were around 60,000 of them dropping when it was announced that it was Kolo Muani coming off for Odobert rather than Richarlison. The fans were not aware of the Frenchman's pain and only aware of the discomfort the Brazilian's struggling showing had caused them.

At least in Odobert, there was a game changer entering the action. The Frenchman would go on to grab an assist, create the most chances of the game with three carved out, complete more take-ons than any other player (2), complete 100 per cent of his passes and win 100 per cent of his duels.

While the 20-year-old might blow away in a strong breeze, he does have a driving style with the ball and he is full of confidence right now, which made the decision to bench him all the more surprising.

"We tried to work around what is the best way to attack the opponent in front of us, and at the same time still keep a little bit of flow," Frank said in trying to explain that decision afterwards.

"We wanted two strikers, Kolo Muani and Richarlison, for the crosses, which we thought was an area where we potentially could hurt United. I think it worked perfectly with the first one, where Richarlison got a big chance, so that could have been an unbelievable, fantastic game plan from us.

"So that was part of it, and we need different personalities and types for different games."

On Odobert's performance, he added: "He's positive. I think he's stepping forward, or stepping up, and doing things that look right."

You can forgive Frank for using the term 'stepping forward' because it's his most used phrase right now for players recovering from those mysterious minor knocks at Tottenham that always require more time than expected to recover from.

Mohammed Kudus is the latest victim in missing the past two matches after it was said that he should be back for this game.

As for Odobert, he started to show what he could have brought during that dull first half. Within nine minutes he curled in a great cross that Cristian Romero flicked towards goal only for United goalkeeper Senne Lammens to get a leg to. Soon after Joao Palhinha hooked a shot towards goal that Lammens pushed away.

The unmarked Odobert would have then likely scored for Tottenham if Richarlison had played a pass left to him rather than right to the clearly offside Johnson, who ran on and scored but always expected the flag to be raised.

Destiny Udogie entered the fray for Pedro Porro, who struggled with his delivery all day and Spence duly switched to the right where he looked better. Porro would later reply on Instagram to a fan who said he had not had the best day: "I know this, don ‘t worry the best moments is coming..."

Udogie not starting was more understandable because the Italian has only recently returned after more knee issues, so not pushing him to a second game within a few days would have been recommended by the sports science staff.

The 22-year-old has not been called up to the Italy squad for the coming international break, which should allow him to focus on his strengthening work for the games to come and Spurs will be better for it.

Udogie would make his mark in this game but only after Frank's next set of changes made some noise.

Rodrigo Bentancur replaced Palhinha and then Mathys Tel came on for Xavi Simons, sparking loud boos from the majority of the 61,210 fans inside the stadium. The boos were not for Tel, but for the withdrawal of Spurs' sole playmaker Xavi.

The Dutchman had shown glimpses of his ability with a James Maddison-like ability to turn and swerve away with the ball from close markers, albeit without too much end product. Maddison was sat in a hospitality box behind the media area working on a different kind of product, alongside Twitch streamer, YouTuber and Manchester United fan Angryginge with a crossover video on the way.

Down on the pitch, Frank's changes did the trick. Just five minutes after they were made, Odobert raced into the United half, played the ball out to Udogie and the Italian hit a low cross into the box towards Tel.

The 20-year-old took a touch and turned Matthijs de Ligt superbly and his shot was heading inside the near post only for De Ligt to deflect it inside the other one instead.

It meant Tel has scored twice in his past 145 minutes of Premier League football over four games.

A video Tottenham put out in midweek had shown Tel scoring various clinical goals in training at Hotspur Way and being hyped up every time he did so by some of his fellow French speakers in Odobert and Sarr. That confidence led him to this moment.

The 84th minute goal reconnected the players and the fans after those boos and the crowd were the 12th man for the next seven minutes or so.

"Sometimes you are lucky [with substitutions] but of course every single time I take a decision to sub a player it’s with one aim. To make the team win or get back into the game or try to see the game out," Frank told football.london about the boos for the Xavi withdrawal.

"It’s with only one aim. To try to win the game. Mathys did well, great goal, great involvement and in general I think Xavi did a fine game. A positive but also you need a bit of freshness."

Spurs were also indebted to a brilliant saving challenge from Van de Ven, who raced from behind United sub Benjamin Sesko to make the last-ditch intervention.

Van de Ven is the only player in Europe's top five leagues this season to have scored three or more goals and made two or more last man tackles.

The moment not only prevented a goal as the Slovenian ran through but caused the visiting forward to leave the action with a knee injury after United had used all of their substitutes, meaning the final eight minutes would see Spurs with a numerical advantage.

What everyone thought was the winner came a minute into added time. Tel was involved again as his corner was headed out to Odobert on the edge of the box. The Frenchman hit a curling shot and, played onside by Manuel Ugarte, Richarlison flicked his head out and guided it perfectly into the bottom left corner of the net.

It looked like a fortunate deflection but watch it back in slow motion and the Brazilian meant it with great reactions. It was one of the few moments of quality in his performance on the day but it should have brought all three points.

It did spark wild celebrations, both those hilarious and unexpected. Watch Sarr in the aftermath in particular. The young Senegal midfielder ran after his goalscoring friend, trying to grab him as he was ripping off his shirt.

Sarr then attempted one of the worst forward diving slides ever seen across what was clearly dry grass at that point, meaning he collapsed in a heap, almost bending his right arm at an unnatural position behind him before lying on his back.

It could have looked like Jurgen Klinsmann's famous goal celebration but instead looked like a mess of limbs. Djed Spence at least completed a run, slide and roll with far more panache among the celebrating bodies.

Cristian Romero had gone off by this point and had been stood in the dugout barking out instructions like a coach. The Argentine had been thrown a big coat by Justin Cochrane so he did not get told off by the officials.

Frank described Romero afterwards as "just done physically. He just came back from that injury. He's fine". He certainly looked fine though as he had, after coming off looking injured, surprisingly sprinted up the pitch with Xavi and Porro to clamber all over the goalscorer, with the latter repeatedly kissing the crying Richarlison's head.

Unfortunately the Richarlison shirt off celebration once again cursed Tottenham in that moment. There's an unwritten rule that if the Brazilian whips off his top, not only will he be booked for it but something may go wrong next.

After such shirtless celebrations in his first season at the club, against Fulham, his goal was ruled out by VAR and in the comeback at Anfield later that same campaign, Diogo Jota would score a winner seconds after Richarlison's goal had brought Spurs back level from 3-0 down.

The shirt farewell celebration returned on November 8, 2025, and so did the subsequent pain.

United were awarded a last-gasp corner, sending Lammens up to make an extra man in the box. Bruno Fernandes whipped the ball deep to the back post where De Ligt headed it at goal and Vicario could only get a hand to it after it had crossed the line.

Johnson had been bewilderingly assigned to mark the big De Ligt throughout the game and just lost him in the final moments, getting in a tangle with Van de Ven and Kevin Danso, who were all left stood in a group eventually marking nobody.

Luke Shaw also managed to block both Bentancur and Udogie from getting to the back post, leaving the big Dutchman all alone to head home and break Tottenham hearts in the 96th minute.

Frank played down the exit of Romero in having a role in the defending at the corner.

"His position, he wouldn't have been near the goal anyway, so it's a cross on the side, and then he would have been in the middle zone, so this was back post, so that wouldn't have affected anything," he said.

It was a remarkable end to a dull game. United are a tough watch, a team so far removed from the one that used to dominate English and European football, even if this draw made it four wins and three draws from their past seven matches which is nothing to be sniffed at.

They only had two shots on target though all game and five in total but Ruben Amorim's men still took home a share of the spoils with 10 men.

Spurs had 10 shots at goal with four on target with 97 successful final third passes to United's 52. They took home a point after being behind in the 84th minute but it felt like and was two thrown away.

It did mean Tottenham avoided a fourth home loss of the season but they have still claimed just two points from their past five games at their own stadium in the Premier League.

It also continued a concerning stat that Spurs are winless in their past 18 Premier League games when conceding first, having lost 14 and drawn four, which shows they just cannot find a way back, or have not since been able to since overcoming Aston Villa 4-1 in November last year.

"Of course, the emotions inside me are high but I take the positives out of this game," Frank told football.london. "That’s what I believe and how I believe in building a good team and keep adding layers to it.

"Overall, a fine, good performance against a good Man Utd team which is definitely in flow. We are talking a bit about our level of defensive and attacking threats and to play against a Man Utd side that play with confidence with Cunha, Mbeumo, Amad and Sesko coming on and we kept them to five shots.

"It’s just another example on the other way around that it’s not that easy to create in the Premier League even though they had all their big boys out there."

He added: "Second half I was extremely happy with our response. We are playing at home and of course we all want to win and don't talk too much about home form and all that. I know we need to win before we don’t talk about it.

"The way we turned it around to stay in the game, kept doing the right thing throughout the second half, very happy with that. So close to winning it. On any other day, we win it."

Spurs are still trying to find their way as an attacking unit under Frank and are missing those key creators in Kudus, Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski and a striker in Dominic Solanke who Frank still does not sound utterly convinced is coming back any time soon.

The Dane is still attempting to find the right fit in the attacking areas and the relationships that work.

"Yeah, I think that's fair. We are searching to find the right balance up front, and I think when we look at the game back, I think there was positive bits going forward also from the game," he said. "I think we created one of the biggest chances was Richarlison from a cross from Brennan after, what, five, ten minutes.

"Sometimes the small things. He scores on that instead of Bryan then it changes a little bit and opened up the game a tiny bit more, but we constantly work on the relationships and try to improve it with the players and try to find what is exactly the right blend, but I think there were small steps in the right direction."

The Tottenham players will now mostly go their separate ways for the international break, at least making it two in a row without heading off after a defeat.

The non-internationals will get a few days off during the coming week, which will give Frank and his staff some time to recharge as well and plot what comes next.

Then there will be an U21s training ground friendly which should see Radu Dragusin involved to get some minutes on his comeback. Kota Takai was set to return to training at the start of this month but does not appear to have done so yet. Ben Davies has been included in the Wales squad which suggests he's nearing a return if he doesn't withdraw.

Solanke is not expected to be involved in that training ground friendly although Frank is hoping the striker's ankle improves over the international break, even if he didn't deliver the most confidence-giving answer to a question about whether the England forward will return before the end of the year.

"Er, I do hope so. I would say let’s see what happens after the international break," said the Spurs boss. "We are still going steps forward. It’s on track so far."

Frank needs all the firepower he can get back because after the international break comes the double whammy of the first north London derby of the season at Premier League leaders Arsenal and then a trip to PSG in the Champions League.

Tottenham saved some pride with a comeback point at home against United, even if they threw away the two points that would remarkably have put Frank's side in second place in the Premier League at that moment.

For even if it has been unconvincing stuff at times, Spurs have only lost three of their opening 11 games under the Dane in the Premier League and lost one more in the other six cup matches, another on penalties if you want to include the UEFA Super Cup.

They are the joint third highest scorers in the league and have conceded the joint fourth fewest goals, currently sitting fifth in a tight table.

So it's far from doom and gloom but there's still a hell of a lot of work to be done at Tottenham Hotspur and Thomas Frank is well aware of it.

Here's every single word the Tottenham Hotspur head coach said after the draw with Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday

Thomas Frank had mixed emotions to get out at his press conference after Tottenham's 2-2 draw against Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Ruben Amorim's men opened the scoring 32 minutes in. Pape Matar Sarr hit an unnecessary pass to Micky van de Ven in the Spurs box rather than clearing the ball and the Dutchman hurriedly passed it against a United player. The ball was worked back in and Bryan Mbeumo headed past the static Guglielmo Vicario.

It took until the 84th minute for Spurs to find a leveller when a strong run from substitute Wilson Odobert ended with a pass to Destiny Udogie. The Italian left-back picked out another sub in the box, Mathys Tel, who turned and hit a deflected shot into the net.

Tottenham looked to have won the match in added time when Richarlison flicked his head at Odobert's curling shot and guided it into the bottom corner of the net.

The drama was done though as 10-man United, who lost Benjamin Sesko to injury after using all their substitutes, found a last-gasp equaliser in the 96th minute when Matthijs de Ligt headed home, free at the back post and the ball crossed the line before Vicario could palm it back.

Our Spurs correspondent Alasdair Gold was among those putting the questions to Frank after the game. Here's the full transcript from the press conference at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Do you have mixed emotions after that, with your team fighting back but then throwing it away at the end?

Of course, the emotions inside me are high but I take the positives out of this game. That’s what I believe and how I believe in building a good team and keep adding layers to it. Overall, a fine/good performance against a good Man Utd team which is definitely in flow. We are talking a bit about our, how can you say, level of defensive/attacking threats and to play against a Man Utd side that play with confidence with Cunha, Mbeumo, Amad and Sesko coming on and we kept them to five shots. It’s just another example on the other way around that it’s not that easy to create in the Premier League even though they had all their big boys out there.

Second half I was extremely happy with our response. We are playing at home and of course we all want to win and don’t talk too much about (Tottenham’s bad) home form and all that. I know we need to win before we don’t talk about it. The way we turned it around to stay in the game, kept doing the right thing throughout the second half very happy with that. So close to winning it. On any other day, we win it.

The fans booed one of your substitutions but they worked?

Yeah sometimes you are lucky but of course every single time I take a decision to sub a player it’s with one aim. To make the team win or get back into the game or try to see the game out. It’s with only one aim. To try to win the game. Mathys did well, great goal, great involvement and in general I think Xavi did a fine game. A positive but also you need a bit of freshness.

Did you hear the fans boo Xavi Simons coming off?

I just say every time I make a decision it is with one aim. To make the team better.

What did you want specifically from Mathys, was it the movement up front that you just wanted to change?

Score a goal.

Did the Europa League final play into your thinking today? Can you see how United have improved since then?

I think I saw this game as one game ahead of us, to try to do everything we could to try to win it. That was the aim of the game. I spoke before the game about it's clear they have improved this season. They look, how can you say, more in sync together. But I think especially going forward they look like a big threat. That's why I actually think, I know we conceded two goals, but if you said to me before the game you concede five shots, I would take that. So we're all happy."

Did you expect Mbeumo to start on the left?

I think it's not the first time Ruben has, how can you say, played around with the front three. I think no matter where Bryan plays he's a threat, which he showed again today.

You said your defence played well, but it didn't do particularly well from the first goal, it seemed to struggle to get the ball away, and then you weren't as much of a threat with your offensive players as you might have been until the end of the game, are you still a work in progress?

OK, I don't think I said that they played well, the defence. I think I said if you concede five shots, then before the game you probably would have taken that. That's not the same as the two shots they had, maybe even on target, was two situations we probably could have done better in, and we will of course look through that and go through the details, so that's of course a fair point. Then we play a game against a team where both teams try to cancel each other a little bit out, and we always want to create a little bit more, but you can then flip that and say, hey, we scored two goals in a situation where it was difficult to create.

You made changes at half-time, then more with 20 minutes to go, which obviously worked brilliantly, are you still trying to find the right combination in attack? It feels like you're still searching for the right blend.

Yeah, I think that's fair. We are searching to find the right balance up front, and I think when we look at the game back, I think there was positive bits going forward also from the game. I think we created one of the biggest changes was Richarlison from a cross from Brennan after, what, five, ten minutes.

Sometimes the small things. He scores on that instead of Bryan then it changes a little bit and opened up the game a tiny bit more, but we constantly work on the relationship and try to improve it with the players and try to find what is exactly the right blend, but I think there were small steps in the right direction. Was Kolo Muani coming off a physical thing?

He actually struggled a little bit, but nothing big.

Cristian Romero came off with a couple of minutes left.... Yeah, he was just done physically. He just came back from that injury. He's fine.

So he'll be OK for the international games?

Yeah.

How much of a blow is having him come off, given the manner of the goal you conceded?

Yeah, but I think his position, he wouldn't have been near the goal anyway, so it's a cross on the side, and then he would have been in the middle zone, so this was back post, so that wouldn't have affected anything.

Wilson Odobert was good today, what did you think of him and why did you feel it was right to not start him today?

I think we tried to work around what is the best way to attack the opponent in front of us, and at the same time still keep a little bit of flow. But I think we wanted two strikers, Kolo Muani and Richarlison, for the crosses, which we though was an area where we potentially could hurt United. I think it worked perfectly with the first one, where Richarlison got a big chance, so that could have been an unbelievable, fantastic game plan from us. So that was part of it, and we need different personalities and types for different games.

And how impressed were you with Wilson?

Oh, sorry, and Wilson, yeah, sorry. I think, again, he's positive. I think he's stepping forward, or stepping up, and doing things that look right.
